Monday scent of the day 10/28

Posted by Robin on 28 October 2019 162 Comments

The last Monday in October, and International Animation Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking the chill off the morning (it promises to be warm later) with Serge Lutens Chêne.

Reminder: on 11/1, wear a fragrance with dried fruits, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I was thinking you were very early posting this, but my part of the world has just changed to winter time.
Anyway, you smell wonderful and we are house twins. I’m wearing Ambre Sultan. The temperature has dropped considerably over the weekend and it’s quite chilly outside. As it should be, it is the end of October after all.

Do you see huge flocks of starlings where you live, as it gets colder? I remember them in Germany. I am looking into Nuit Etoilee…very tempting following your suggestion

No, not so much where I live. I live very close to the coast, and there don’t seem to be many starlings in this part. I do know what you mean though. It’s a beautiful sight though, like this enchanting ballet.

Yeah, I was my usual late! And then ran errands most of the day so just getting back here. It was in the 70s and sunny, so I can’t complain! I will be your climate twin soon enough.

Doused in ISM today. So good.

It is going to be reliably freezing every morning for the foreseeable future. I need at least one walk crunching on fall leaves before it all goes away..

    Sipping Chai tea..
We had a very fun Diwali celebration yesterday evening and today I am so tired, and the kohl eyeliner I wore last night is giving me raccoon eyes today no matter how much I try to take it off..so I look and feel tired. More chai tea needed!

I am in Rituale today by Mendittorosa

She is doing okay, considering….sleeping quite a bit and pain free. My mom has been with her everyday, I hope to see her this weekend with my college daughter. It’s hard being 250 miles away, technology has helped me to feel connected. Thank you for asking.☺️

Hope the Chai helps! I got my decant of Le Mat—I’m still learning about it. The immortle (sp) is a note I have some difficulty with. But a bottle is very tempting, that’s for sure! Glad you mentioned this perfume.

You can always host a split, the bottles are so expensive.
I am sorry that you are having difficulty with it, but give it some time. I adore it. I have a few more sprays left in my decant before the thunk.
Yesterday I wore my BK lipstick to the party. Did you ever fix yours?

I had the same problem flopper. It may have been a clash with menopausal heat…. ?I wanted to love it but… so I did a swap with a wonderful NST’er and it all worked out.

I attended a Diwali festival at my local library some years ago and I remember the very talented Indian dancers who performed there. I also remember how crowded it was. My town, at least, clearly needs more cultural celebrations such as this.

Its just the triumph of good over evil, that is is basically the festival. We eat, do a puja and then have fun. Thats all!

I looked up dried fruit on Fragrantica and was surprised to find how many scents with dried fruit that I had in my collection. First up is La Panthere from a sample. I always forget how much I enjoy this one.

I checked fragrantica and I don’t think I have any perfumes with dried fruit notes, so I’m in Safran Troublant.
It was noticeably darker this morning when I took my daughter to school and we have a chance of ❄️ this week. (I’m not gonna say the word yet lillyjo ?). This weekend was all about comfort food. Saturday we had grilled cheese and tomato soup and yesterday it was Mississippi pot roast. If you’ve never made one, I would highly recommend it, butter makes everything better.

My hubs makes Mississippi pot roast- if it’s the same as what you’re talking about- with the pepperoncini? It’s delicious!! Though he uses a pressure cooker for pretty much anything that calls for a slow cooker (I can’t deal with slow cooker smells permeating every inch of a small-ish apt).

Yes! That’s the one, although I only use a half stick of butter and it’s still delicious. I can understand the smell thing, at one point yesterday I took the lid off to peek at it and smell, my husband walked into the kitchen and immediately said, “it smells like a fart in here.”? lol

Thanks! I went to the PO since tracking said it was “available for pickup”. It wasn’t, ha, so it should be delivered today. As I was looking inside the sorting area, I am still amazed how right the PO usually gets the mail delivered day in and day out.

If you go to the PO on the day it is “delivered”, you can sometimes pick it up. Once the mail truck is loaded for the day, you have to wait for it to show up.

Had a power outage earlier and haven’t taken a shower yet. So I am still in Memoir right now. Since the power is back on, I will either wear Epic or Coromandel when I get in the shower in a couple minutes. I still can’t believe that the dogs had to spend 45 minutes just sniffing the yard before they decided to pee. I guess all the rain made everything smell different.

Oh, I feel you with the dog thing! The first five minutes I put the dog out of the van to potty, she spends at least five minutes with eyes closed, sniffing the wicked whipping winds up here. Rain or shine (mostly rain and snow!) she just stands there, sniffing, and getting soaked or frozen. Then, the place she decides to potty is JUST beyond the reach of the leash..! ?

In the last of my Gallivant Tel Aviv decant– billed as gold jewelry on tanned skin 70s glamour, to my nose it is more like a 90s summer fruity floral–makes me think more 90s off white power suit than Sticky Fingers jeans. Aggressively upbeat, it’s a mood changer. Unfortunately, only by spraying with abandon can I get it to last on my skin, and the first 30 minutes then are a bit overwhelming. Fortunately, however, I found it for a bargain on eBay, so I feel okay about its longevity issues… my bottle should be arriving next week 🙂

No school today, and a day off for me. We went out to the big mall. Stopped in Sephora and I asked for samples of Vanilla Vibes, TF Noir Extreme and Atelier Pacific Lime. She gave me the first two, and said she was out of sample vials. I didn’t really believe her, but oh well. So I’m wearing all 3 from the testers as my sotd! I’m gearing up for another lengthy call to AT&T. Then maybe a nap!

My promotional rate expired in May. I’ve been fighting about my crazy high bill, and was put on a new promotion for the month of October, to last 1 year. When the bill came, no promotion so I called back today and got it resolved supposedly. I will see on the November bill.

Trying Solstice Scents Master Bedroom notes are Soft Musk, Sandalwood EO, Amber, Clove EO, Somalian Myrrh EO, Vanilla, Aged Patchouli EO and Champaca Absolute

    And

Witch’s Cottage notes are Warm Baked Goods, Dried Herbs, Sweet Annie, Soft Woods & Fragrant Hearth Smoke

Master Bedroom is quite root beery in a good way. Witch’s Cottage is sweet and spicy and not too herbal.

Happy Monday, guys and शुभ दीवाली

    1) Sunny and picture perfect autumn weekend, with painted forests, fog and sunshine. Did some garden clean up; will be doing little by little this week to put the garden to bed (except for the winter greens garden) I learned a lot this year from my designed inaugural garden and from the cottage garden this year, and will be carrying those lessons forward.

    2) Am in North Bondi, from Ouai on top of Fresh Cream Soft Suede. North Bondi by itself is VERY floral and woody- the FCSS softens and warms it. Perfect for a very sunny, very cold morning (30F upon rising!)

    3) A hot masala chai with lots of honey- like I said, it is cold. Am in tights and a double knit dress and I think this is what I am wearing for the rest of the week, to be honest!

My husband and I took a walk this afternoon and he was in shorts…I think a first here for late October! Doubly weird because we are having a really good year for fall foliage color.

Your hot masala chai sounds good anyway though.

I seem to like this category of dried fruits and have enough for all week! Today I’m wearing Bois de Paradis, such a favourite! I don’t need an excuse to wear this one. Now, it’s perhaps not quite a dried fruit strictly speaking but it has citrus, blackberry, and fig (galore!) and I felt it belonged in this category. Fortunately, I still have about 2/3 of my bottle.

Hi all, SOTD is Eau des Jardins, by Clarins. I love the spicy/green notes in this one.
A coworker brought by his bottle of Byredo Mojave Ghost for me to try, I love the powdery/musky notes but it’s not FB worthy so $$ saved.
I am looking forward to my spin class tonight, I overindulged a bit (way too much Indian food) so time to pay the piper. Blood, sweat, tears, and disco music!

Oof! Busy weekend, but I kept myself connected by checking the splitmeet. Am restraining myself for now… wearing Kelly Calèche EDT today. Kind of a Fall go-to for me.

Trying to complete some tasks before I report for jury duty on Wednesday. Ugh. Have an early breakfast tomorrow then think I’ll head over to get flu shot and tetanus booster.

I’m just gonna say it. i bought some new high-waisted jeans, bit of a wide leg. High-waisted is incredibly comfortable, especially for a woman my age.

So interesting, because I took a very long time to move to low rise and now I find them so much more comfortable that I’m resisting the return to high rise. Also, what’s the point, by the time I buy all those they’ll just move them back again.

Kanuka I just looked at those ribcage jeans and thought wow, not after that coconut rice pudding I just ate for dessert, LOL! If you say they are comfortable I will have to take your word for it, but they look so constricting.

Hi all, I’m in Trayee because all of my perfumes are in boxes, and even the one little decant of Passage d’Enfer that I thought I had protected from the chaos of the move has gotten lost somewhere in a box labeled “Bathroom.” Trayee is one of my EBPs at work, and though it has no dried fruits in it, it might as well. You all smell great today. (As you do every day.)

Moving is awful, but as moves go, mine went fine. They broke one of our lamps (my favorite 🙁 ), and scratched our brand new hardwood floors a bit, but overall, things went smoothly. Mischief the Cat is adjusting surprisingly well, possibly because we gave her a whole bedroom, filled with her toys, water, food, a scratch pad, sweatshirts smelling of her mommy and daddy, a litter box, sunshine, and treats. She keeps walking around and bobbing her head in Explorer Mode.

Glad you are moved into your new house, but sorry about the damage.

I love the story about your kitty! When we moved into our townhouse we brought the cat over first and kept him in a closed bedroom while we unloaded everything. When we finally let him out, he did the head bobbing thing too! I think he was trying to cautiously get a sense of the new surroundings at the time; really funny to watch! ??

We had a long weekend with Labour Day but lots of rain, hail and thunder which left one dog trembling and cowering under my desk whi,e the other was completely indifferent. This morning i noticed that there were two dead sparrows (baby, no feathers) that have been evicted from their nests. I think they can’t survive the drenching rain. The rabbits also looked wet and miserable in the cemetery. But everything is so green and colourful: azelias, rhodos, kowhai, clematis and sweet scented air. It is the last week of school for my son…ever…only 4 more days in my entire life of waking him at seven. He has exams starting in 10 days and the. University next year and he will leave home ( but not the city). Wearing costume Nationale 21 and waiting for my Chypre Mousee package which might arrive today.

Good afternoon! Scent at the moment is a couple of sprays of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot. I’m in the “Is it a cold, or is it allergies?” mode right now, and I’m finding it a little strong, but my OTC allergy meds and Tylenol seemed to have cleared up a lot of the headache and congestion I had when I woke up.

I’m going to count samples and small decants of fig fragrances in the dried fruit category, so I have several more scents to wear this week. Sometime when I’m out of the house, I’ll try a spray from a sample of OJ Taif.

Sinffapalooza was a lot of fun. I caught up with thegoddessrena and she was kind enough to let me experience her bespoke perfume from DSH: Slinky Carnation. Whoa❣️Or carnation with an animalic bite! Wowzers! I haven’t talked up my damage yet and I may never. Suffice it to say, they will be revealed in due course since they won’t all fit in one picture.

In other news, I posted 3 splits yesterday. The one for Coromandel Extrait is now closed. Spots are still available for Memo Paris Winter Palace and I am gathering interest for Hermessence travel spray sets. I need to check with the boutique to see if they are still offering the set of four where you can choose multiples of the same perfume since online only had the set of 8 and no ability to get multiples.

Now back to work so I can support my naughtiness!

PSA for lovers of Pacifica fragrances–On Sunday, there was an article in our paper, The Oregonian, that Pacifica is closing their plant here and laying off 75 workers. Manufacture will be done in the future by “independent contractors” which probably means somewhere in Asia. I don’t know if this means reformulation but I wouldn’t be surprised.

It’s cold and sunny here and I just put on some Mazzolari Lui.

Jovoy Ambre Premier, not sure about the fruit but it could be hiding in there somewhere! This is a good example of how I get overwhelmed in perfume stores – I had gone to Fumerie on my recent trip to Portland to explicitly try Corsica Furiosa and the new Tauer. First, I thought I would not even try these scents in store and only buy samples (and focus on other scents instead), but then I was too tempted and tried them anyway, didn’t like them that much, didn’t buy the samples, kept sniffing and sniffing all kinds of scents and ended up buying 4 samples that don’t really work for me, but stood out against the “noise” in the store. Lesson learned! (maybe).

I was walking down a long hall here at the main hospital, and I slowly became aware I smelled something unusual and yet familiar – a couple of focused breaths and I realized I have encountered L’Aire du Desert Morocain, in the wild, for the first time. 🙂 Two or three women may have been the bearer, but they were all long gone by the time I figured it out.
I will add that to my list – you know how birders keep a list of all the different species they have seen in the wild? Well, this is like that, except with scents. 😀

My own scent today is an incense rose oil I had formulated at the little “Smells Good Cafe” in Grand Rapids when I was there last week. 4 parts frankincense, 4 parts a nice Nag Champa blend, 1.5 parts something called Somali Rose, a blend with Rose and some patchouli, and .5 part good sandalwood, probably Australian. After the clerk mixed it up for me, I smelled it, and was very happy, and offered her to smell it, and she said, “Oh, that does smell good!”, which was sorta nice, since she has a rather jaded attitude. 🙂
