It's Friday and World Animal Day! Our community project for today: do what you like with the World Animal Day theme.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm getting cp points and extending my summer with L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons.
Reminder: on 10/11, celebrate National Apple Month by wearing a perfume with an apple note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Vero Profumo Naja for the cp. Unfortunately, sample thunk!
That’s a sad thunk for sure. You smell amazing! ??
Thank you, Deva! I hoarded the last drops the most I could, but I didn’t want to risk evaporation anymore.
I am so bad to do that with samples I love! I hoard every drop!
I hoard a lot also, but almost never to the point of let it evaporate.
Yay you for NOT hoarding! I think you get extra points as a result.
I am not participating today
I am eating a cupcake for breakfast and I know no one here will judge me. The kids made them last night but I didn’t try one..BUT…
I couldn’t resist this morning.
They are staring at me these cupcakes. They smell so sweet and so good..I get wafts of the aroma when I walk into the kitchen…
I have no will power
Happy FriYAY as some of you say..
I say life is short, enjoy!
I am pairing it with a nice cuppa tea
i had a laminated brioche then some chocolate- no regrets
I had to look that up – yummy.
I had scrambled eggs, but wish I had a cupcake. I’ll break off. Corner of banana bread instead.
That’s so sweet that your kidlets like to bake.
Enjoy those cupcakes, I say!
What can you do when the cupcakes are staring right at you?
Nope, no judgement at all. YUM! ?
No judgement. Just jealous!
I am judging you:
Where is MY cupcake!
Happy Friday and kisses to the little buddhas!
There would of been more cupcakes if they didn’t eat most of the batter…
LOL. Sometimes the batter is the best part!
If I don’t get to try a dessert in the evening, I’ve been known to try it at breakfast instead. Fortunately, coffee cake and such can be a brunch-type food.
Yum, cupcakes sound more interesting than the banana I just ate. And Cinema! I haven’t heard that one in a while.
I love Cinema. You smell so good!
I blame Cinema for my cupcake this morning. Cinema is sweet and that’s what got the ball rolling..and I have no brakes
I stopped making cup cakes. Because i just eat the whole batch in two sittings (i cant stop after just one) and feel horribly guilty and bloated afterwards.
Also, I am not a very good baker so its all good.
If I want to treat myself or others I buy good chocolate. Its harder for me to over eat chocolate.
I can usually stop after maybe two small cupcakes or one large cupcake. I eat too many sweets when I have my midnight snack, though. As for chocolate, the Philadelphia Premium Outlet stores include a Harry & David store, and I saw that they had dark chocolate truffles. No willpower when it comes to things like that. Truly, they had *so much* interesting stuff there, but I wasn’t too bad. The only other thing I got was mango chutney.
There’s no way to say no to a cupcake.
You smell good! I love YSL Cinema and just pulled mine out yesterday, it’s a favorite of mine during the golden month of October.
But how could you leave us hanging without telling us what KIND of cupcake . . .
Good job! I had a chocolate chip cookie for dinner.
I’m wearing Dame Dark Horse for the CP. My second favorite Dame fragrance.
It’s hard to pick a favorite from Dame! Dark Horse and BFMV are the front runners for me.
Oh what a great choice.
Hey twin! Thanks for the inspiration!
You smell great!!!
I almost grabbed it today but my mood and weather just asked for something more smokey. So I went with T rex
Waving to you and mad town girl! – looks like I’m a triplet.
B: Why, Grandma, those are some massive dentures!
W: Grrrr grrrrrr grrrrr ruff ruff roooooo-oooooowl, grr grrrr. (Dumb human, get that eye window prescription sorted will you – I’m a chuffn’ wolf. Oh, and by the way – offensive!)
B: What’s that… Timmy’s down the well?
W: Grrrr… (For ****s sake…)
This made my morning – your gravatar is the best! ?
BobH wins … as usual. Nice avatar mash-up!
LOVE your new avatar!
Lol. Bob H, as the mother of a now grown little boy who loved legos, I love your changing gravatar.
? ?? ?
Perfection as always.
Haha! And looove your gravatar!
Twin, but I’ve layered it with another perfume.
Love this!! I should have joined you, maybe tomorrow.
I picked Berdoues Assam of India (which I received from the lovely Pixel) today without considering the CP, but the branding has a lot of adorable elephants so it fits the theme pretty well! This is really nice, I’ve been meaning to smell it for ages and it doesn’t disappoint.
Almost twin! You smell nice!
I think it fits the cp because of the bottle! You smell wonderful!
I am participating in the cp wearing my large sample of Cartier L’Heure Fougueuse IV. It’s a gorgeous green/hay/leather/stable mixture. Not my usual type of fragrance, but it’s beautiful and so well done. These l’Heures are all incredibly high quality. It has grown on me greatly.
Oh dear, a lemming is born. Guess I’m participating in the cp after all…in a way!
Sorry for the added comment…how does this compare to Dzing!, if you have that one?
Hi! I do have Dzing! and love it, too, but they are not at all alike. Dzing! is all caramel candy/leather/musk/circus fun on me and Fougueuse is all green/soft leather and woods/high class weekend in the country. I’d send you a sample but I’m almost out of mine – it was one of those nice 3 ml test tube type samples. (I think fragrancenet has the sample. Not affiliated, just happy to enable.)
They still have them! Yay, and thanks for the tip + the comparison! ?
In a dab of Mona di Orio’s musk, because nothing says animalic, or mrrrrow, like musk.
Agreed! My first choice for today was Kiehl’s Musk. Alas, it’s a little too mrrrrow for work.
Kiehl’s is pretty skanky but it’s wonderful. Definitely not a work perfume.
I forgot all about the CP and reached for my teeny bottle of vintage Chanel Bois des Iles. Oh well. Maybe it counts since it’s also known as Box of Eels
It totally counts!!!
I was hoping someone would do box of eels!
Perfect! Wish I’d thought of it. Extra points are always awarded for NST in-jokes.
you get points in my book..
Vintage Box of Eels? I can only imagine how great that smells!
No points for me because I have completely failed to manufacture an animal tie-in for Feu Secret, which I was unable to resist reaching for this morning. Love it.
Well, you have completely succeeded in smelling great!
Well, Feu’s pronunciation is almost Fur, so I think it counts…
I knew someone here would come up with something clever – Bob to the rescue!
People! What a week! I’m trying to smell like a classy dame in Chanel BoE today, but feeling decidedly disgruntled.
Off (finally!) after 2 days of running like a madman with 10 patients (!) yesterday, but had to get up at the a$$crack of dawn for a 7am RCA meeting. You can bet your bippy I’m getting paid for sitting in a room for over an hour in a meeting about an event that had nothing to do with me! Unfortunately, I was a witness. I’m tempted to go through life with my eyes closed to avoid any form of “witnessing” in the future.
T-Rex had an Ugly GI situation that required veterinary assistance because she once again ate some disgusting, putrid offal at the park on Sunday. Cause and effect! She just doesn’t get it…
Monday, found the root of my dental issue (literally) is a piece of tooth that was left behind when I had a fractured tooth extracted 2 YEARS ago!
It won’t make it out of the 40’s this week with nights dipping below freezing. Fall has left me in her rear view mirror, it seems.
Then, found out IRS says I owe them money from 2016!!! I have gotten a return every year, so figuring this out will be all kinds of fun!
Stick a fork in me, I’m DONE! ??♀️
But I smell DIVINE!
Hope the weekend picks up a whole lot for u Deva, and u get some time to unwind, what a week indeed!
Ugh. What else but perfume will make it all endurable? Be fully a disgruntled classy dame. Lean into it.
Twins! you smell wonderful. And what an ordeal of a week, i hope you have a much better weekend.
Oh, yuck to your bad week! I’m glad you found the cause of your dental ailment. Lurky little bits like that can cause lots of problems if not addressed, to the point of being life threatening if they get infected.
I hope T, and your weekend, get much better. ?
Deva, after reading this, I’ve come to the conclusion that you and I are somehow related, lol. What a week! Hope your days off are perfect!
Omg! I don’t even know where to start, but seriously, 10 patients?! Not safe, for you or the patients.
I hope you and T-Rex are doing better and can enjoy the weekend!
Oh what a horrible week! Hope things improve soon, you do indeed smell divine.
I hope next week is much better for you and T-Rex. Wishing her a full quick recovery!
As the former owner of an offal loving dog I sympathise wholeheartedly. She never would get it either. Too much of a time lapse between cause and effect.
We are house twins today and I hope your weekend can somehow remedy all the hassle of your past week!
Good Luck Deva, I hope TRex perks up quick.Have a great weekend.
Sounds like you 2 should take it easy tonite and stay in & warm anyway.
Crikey! Hope you can get it all sorted without too much bother and yes, you do smell divine.
That is certainly a week! Hope you and the pup recover.
Oof! Thank goodness for days off and for smelling good.
You smell divine, and you deserve a very warm bath with plenty of Epsom salts and a martini!
Wow… that’s a lot for one week. I hope you have a few days off to relax and regroup.
you do smell good
Passing you a cupcake. you need it more than me
Yikes!! Sending you a virtual bottle of wine…..
Oh, what a crummy week! Wishing better days ahead, especially health wise, for both of you.
You’ve had at least 3 rounds of ‘bad’ this week so I think you are due for some of ‘good’!
Egads! What a horrible, no good, very bad week. I’m sending you a virtual beer or some virtual hot cocoa, whichever strikes your fancy. I hope that both you and T-Rex have a much better time next week.
Well, that’s a whole lotta crap. I had the same tax problem last year… and I get audited every year by the Canadian government (because I claim the foreign tax credit). My dog also eats sh*t off the ground all the time, we’ve had two trips to emergency. Today she yacked up an enormous hairball mixed with wood fibers. Hope your weekend is much better!!
Hugs Deva!! Whew, what a week!
I didn’t forget about CP, but I got muddled and am a week behind with Caron’s lovely Aimez Moi, for ‘Sweet’! this really is so nice, licorice and violet sweets, with vanilla and spices, perfect comfort scent for the end of a lonnng week!
You smell lovely, Aimez-Moi is pastis to me.
Good choice! I love Aimez Moi, one of my early perfume purchases, I should wear it more often.
I was going to go with Assam of India for the elephants, but it’s just too cold for that. Luckily PriscillaE reminded me I have some Dame Dark Horse, so that is my SotD.
Started my day by taking my car in for an oil change this morning before a weekend of driving. I’m two and a half years into a 3 year lease and when she asked how it was running, I told her great now that it has a new battery. The original one died a couple of weeks ago. Well, not only did I get today’s oil change for free, she gave me 2 coupons for the next 2 to be free also! Score! I love good customer service.?
Oh very nice…I thought that was going to be the lead in to some horror story!
I’m doing Cuir de Russie for obvious reasons although no cows were sacrificed for this beauty.
And I’m wearing some Œillet Bengale, for the stripes of Bengal that once graced the beautiful and mysterious Tiger Swan.
Tea of this morning was a very beautiful Nepal Golden something and I have since switched to Charlotte au chocolat by DF.
Have a great weekend everyone!
You smelled great!
Oh, that chocolate tea sounds lovely!
It is, discontinued though, which is a shame.
It’s finally fall, fall is here! ?? I have a strong urge to run through the yard tossing leaves into the air lol. Sunny, breezy and cool. My little town has a major festival the first Friday of every month that draws hundreds of people from the region and tonight is Octoberfest, the best one of the year imo. Perfect weather for it.
Zoologist Moth today.
My favorite Zoologist! And I like a lot of Zoologists.
Dang, now I’m going to have to order a sample of Moth.
I think I love Moth and Civet equally ?
Octoberfest! Nothing better.
I had all kinds of ideas for this week. Musc Rav for the animalic! The Zoologists! Grace Coddington for the kitty bottle! MKK and BaV!
Oh well, I have new stuff to play with. Muddled Plum on my left arm, Une Rose on my right.
I had a thoroughly delightful lunch with Calypso yesterday. We sniffed and spritzed at Saks and Neiman’s. Tried out Rose&Cuir on a card, but neither of us were tempted to try it on skin. But we both tried many new things and had a great time! ?
It was a blast!
How nice for you both!
So glad you had a great time, I love when NSTers meet IRL.
What did you think of Rose and Cuir? I am gathering opinions/reviews.
NancyL is WAY more organized and efficient than I am, and she took notes. Let’s see if she’ll weigh in. My memory is that we both recoiled a bit as it struck us as a very dry earthy leather with no rose we could detect. Strange, huh? We also tried Chanel 1957 and weren’t super-impressed, though she liked it more than I did, and another new one from Dior whose name was something like Mixed Spices. It was nice enough but too bland. We were both initially very taken with Memo Tiger’s Nest but less so after awhile. Hmmm, what else. I absolutely loved Memo Lallibela. It has my name on it right from the notes: rose, frankincense, patchouli. MMMMM. They have these gorgeous small leather-covered decanters now (like for a purse spray) with 10 ml (I think) sets of three minis to go with them. Containers are $160 and mini sets are $120, too expensive I thought, especially given that the FB is $160 and you’d get more ml with that. Decisions, decisions. All those Memo bottles together in a display are extremely striking looking, that’s for sure!
R&C apparently doesn’t have any actual rose in it. There is an interview with Ellena on Fragrantica where he discusses that.
I have a sample, have skin tested once but am undecided. Will give it another go once my cold clears up. Though, at Malle prices, if it isn’t insta-love, then nail, meet coffin.
Calypso hit it right on the nose regarding Rose&Cuir. No rose to speak of, and it just seemed thin and angular on paper. I’ll probably test it on skin one of these days, though.
The Dior, Spice Blend, disappointed me. I was excited to sniff it, but it was weak. I would have liked a sample of it, but know from past experience that the Dior folks never give samples. I was saving skin for the R&C. ? Had I known what that one smelled like, I would have tried the Dior on skin.
I tried Malle’s The Night on skin, one of the new and stratospherically priced scents, and it was lovely. But not THAT lovely. It dried down to a comfy soft oud musk by evening.
Tried Grand Soir for the first time. Now I see why so many people like it! Mmmmm, wonderful stuff!
I didn’t get to smell R&C on myself, but the FM SA had it on and I thought it smelled really nice on her. I need to go back to try it!
Rose & Cuir is much softer on skin than on paper. I found it sharp on the paper strip and asked to be sprayed on skin and the development is quite different, so it ends up way softer. It’s not by any means a soft skin scent like Cuir d’Ange, but paper doesn’t do it justice imho.
Elisa P and austenfan, that’s good to know. I love roses, so will definitely give this one a chance on skin. ?
It is wonderful to go sniffing with a fellow NSTer! You tried some fabulous-sounding things.
Oh, fun! I had a wonderful time with therabbitsflower and smellysmello not too long ago. We sniffed and dissected and discussed and Oooohed and Ughed our way through a number of fragrances. It’s just way more fun than doing it by myself!
I always get a kick out of it when the same scent qualifies for two CPs in a row, so I’m wearing Here, Piggy again. I layered it with some Burning Leaves and now I smell like a very spooky forest. In a good way!
Glad that didn’t turn into bacon ?
Somewhere the must be a fragrance that works for all CPs, but I don’t know what it is.
Robin, I love the botanical illustration you chose.
Well, I seem to have come down with one of the many sicknesses going around work and am about to go back to sleep. I forced myself to get up and get ready for work, but I realized I am just not well enough to go in. I hate that dumb guilt that sometimes comes with taking a sick day since I’ll be missing three meetings, one of which was already rescheduled. Oh well, that’s what good coworkers are for.
I just put on some L’Aromatica Pumpkin Honey oil for comfort, so I’m still participating in the CP. Honey perfume for the bees.
Oh, and the worst part is I’m supposed to go to a concert tonight! It’s an Italian band performing the score alongside a movie screening of the Italian movie Deep Red from the 70s. Not something one can see every day. Hopefully I’ll somehow be well enough to go.
Rest well! Fingers crossed you will be good to go this evening
I hope you feel well enough to attend. Feel better!
Thank you! I hope so too.
what is the name of the Italian band?
Sounds like something I would love to attend myself
I try to go to the Italian film festival once a year
All things Italian has been an obsession for me for a long time.
When I just turned 16 (many many many moons ago) I had my very first kiss in Italy in Venice. I remember it like it was yesterday..
The band is Goblin. They play synth prog rock and scored many Italian horror movies in the 70s and 80s, including Suspiria.
I remember looking up Goblin on Wikipedia after you mentioned them the last time.
Deep Red, the horror movie?! OOOOH!
Yes! They will also play a set of other music after the movie.
Awww, bummer. I hope you feel better tonight! That sounds super fun. There’s a “theater” on my corner called Film Noir Cinema that shows that kind of stuff, sometimes with live music accompaniment. I have yet to see anything there ?
Thanks, Elisa. You should go sometime! I was lucky to see Goblin live score to Suspiria last October. I’m kind of in awe that they are touring again this year with Deep Red.
Hope you feel better after the additional sleep and can enjoy tonight’s performance. The pumpkin honey oil sounds wonderful!
Thank you, Laila. The pumpkin honey oil is as good as it sounds.
Glad you stayed home, hope you feel better soon. I think the only people who don’t feel guilty for taking a sick day, are the ones who aren’t really sick..
Sorry to hear that you have the crud. Good for you on not forcing yourself to going into work.
Sigh. “to GO into work.” Brain has clocked out for the evening, I guess.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I hope you get better quickly!
Oh no! If you did end up home sick tonight and you have time to kill, check out all of her illustrations, there are tons of them online.
Bummer – I hope you feel better soon! But don’t feel guilty for staying home. xo
Hey, we’re sick twins!
It’s all about spicy broth. Unfortunately I’m finding it difficult to sleep.
I stopped by the beautiful National Museum of Women in the Arts this week (Washington, DC) and saw two interesting new exhibits, including one by Judy Chicago.
Also the gift shop, which is always great, has scented products now. They all come in small sizes, including natural perfumes by the Artisan Perfume Company:
There was a fantastic Palo Santo room spray, too.
NOTE: Admission is free the first Sunday of every month, so this Sunday, October 6, would be a great time to visit if you’re in the area.
I was a docent there many years ago and I still try to get there once a year because it is a remarkable collection and a beautiful space! I never have time to look around in the gift shop because when I am in DC, I just seem to be frantically running from one venue to the next. I really need to plan a trip that is for a couple of days.
Yes, you do!
I don’t remember if you love Chanel. If so, save a couple of hours to spend with Akil at the Chanel Espace Parfums (Chevy Chase Saks 5th Avenue) and explore the Olfactorium.
Actually, that exploration of the 48 basic perfume ingredients would be interesting to any perfumista, although it’s a better use of his time if one plans to buy something. I volunteer as tribute!
I do like Chanel and have a few in my collection so I would love this! I have been wanting to purchase Sycamore so this would be the perfect excuse, like I need one. Also Santa Maria Novella and the Hermès boutique. Sigh.
That sounds fantastic! I am sadly on the wrong side of the country.
A sidelong glance at animalia with SL Ambre Sultane. Ambergris is the only animal note I can think of which is harvested without harming (or even coming into contact with) the animal.
Ambre Sultan is a great choice, but how could you forget hyraceum or African stone, which is petrified rock hydrax droppings. ? ?
There are folks who object to honey from a “no harm” perspective.
I’m wearing Nishane Ani today, because there is ANI in word ANImal.
I call it being smart ?
Bvlgari The Noir. I’m counting the leather note toward the CP and am thrilled that it’s finally cool enough to wear it today!
Now I’ve tried every perfume in the Bvlgari tea series *except* The Rouge. Overall a really well-done series!
Doh! Just remembered I have a sample of House of Matriarch Orca that would’ve been much better for the CP. Maybe I’ll wear that tonight.
Cool, grey, dreary day today. La Maison de la Vanille Vanille noire du Mexique is really nice, pretty close to full bottle worthy to me. I am wearing Mitsouko today because I need a little backbone and feel like scaring people today with it’s awesomeness.
Yes, Vanille Noire is really good, my favorite with Sauvage de Madagascar.
And Mitsouko is in a class of its own.
I love the Mexique LMDLV in the winter, and I’m lucky to have a full bottle that was a gift from a friend who grew tired of vanilla fragrances.
I’m surprised that I am the only person wearing Bengale Rouge today. I almost went with Bee’s Bliss but could not resist the pull of BR on this cold, sunny Friday.
Fear not. You are not alone… ?
I’m wearing BR too!
Happy FriYay everyone! Today’s SOTD is vintage Bal à Versailles extrait, by Jean Desprez. I’m getting loads of barnyard from this. I adore this scent so much.
Looking forward to the SF music Festival Hardly Strictly BlueGrass, it’s promising to be a fun weekend!
enjoy the music
Thanks! 20 years of living in SF and I’ve never been. Crowds scare me but I’m trying to learn to overcome my fears. We’ll see how it goes. My goal is to attend for at least one hour.
I am sure the music will move you and you will forget about the crowds
Oh you smell amazing!!!
It reminds me: I have tiny sample and I need to wear it again soon!
I have a tiny bottle of that vintage extrait and likewise love it so much. Enjoy the music, sounds like great fun!
Hopefully you will enjoy the music this weekend. ?
Wearing “feline vanilla” aka Felanilla. Weather is cool enough for it and I should definitely wear this more often
Felanilla is a personal favorite. You smell great!
One of m, favorite vanilla, lovely!
Darn, I forgot!
I’m going to dab on some of Velvet & Sweet Pea’s Black Cat when I get home! It’s perfect for October, too.
And it feels VERY October out tonight.
A dab of Erris Parfums Ma Bête. I do really like it, but it’s a bit much for work.
As it should be
I’m with Petunia in wearing my sample of Bengale Rouge. For all the kitties everywhere, not just the bengals.
It’s nice to have company!
1) I am in Cuir de Lancome…which is getting frighteningly low in the bottle! BUT I cannot believe the bottle has lasted me this long! I like it better than Cuir de Russie and that is saying something!
2) Help me replace this scent when it is gone- chime in and let me know what is YOUR fave leatherish/inside of a purse scent?
3) And I am in my winter uniform early: Black c neck sweater, black jeans, ‘It’ sneakers and my big scarf. Fall just bypassed us, and even though tomorrow will be a 70F day, it will be very chilly.
4) Tomorrow is garden clean up day- the hail did a lot of damage, but I have new seeds and seedlings, plus a neighbor gifted me a greenhouse and rain barrels, so your girl will be WORKING tomorrow! There a bunch of festivals and concerts in the afternoon and evening as well, so I will be BUSY.
Maybe Hermes Cuir d’Ange or even Kelly Caleche or Shiseido Koto.
I definitely consier Caleche- it is (relatively) affordable and easier to find in Portland. Shiseido Koto is new to me, so I will check it out!
I love CdL- you smell wonderful! Would you not consider getting another bottle?
Bottega Veneta is always great. I also love Parfums d’Empire Cuir Ottoman for iris/soft leather.
I do see now there are bottles up on eBaze, but I also want to consider other scents as well!
And I really want to try Cuir Ottoman- sounds lush!
Bvlgari The Noir (my SOTD) is a soft and refined leather. I don’t usually like leather perfumes, but I like this one!
I need to try this one!
I recommend Balmain Jolie Madame, violets and leather. And thank you for your wonderful garden updates. I’ve so enjoyed them! Will be joining you in the garden tomorrow a.m.
Oh thank you! I will check these recs out!
Overalls, hot tea and gloves on!
2) Dior Cuir Cannage (unfortunately mom hated it so I ended up swapping away my very large decant)
Baby beluga ????
I am smelling mighty fine in 8 spritzed of SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga
…from an official Guerlain Travel spray. I all cozy and comfy wrapped in a cloud of vanilla and a wee bit of leather.
hajusuuri’s freebies for regulars. Two still available (#2 and #8). This is separate from the Freebiemeet so even if you already “used up” your 2 dibs in the Freebiemeet, you are still eligible as long as you meet my definition of NST regular and have a U.S. mailing address. Go to the bottom of Tuesday’s SOTD poll:
In Commuting Woes land:
– I have to resurrect my White Flower oil to counteract some aroma
– Yesterday, despite the rain, I walked. As with practically any city, there are inevitable scaffolding that significantly narrows down the sidewalk. And while some people continue to keep their umbrella open while walking under the awning, others would close theirs until they are back out in the open. This woman behind whom I was walking decided to just lower her umbrella in front of her and twirled it to shake off the water. She was seriously oblivious to people behind her! I had to pretty much push through her left, no choice but to bump her a little (because earphone) and loudly say EXCUSE ME.
Now I’m off to see if I can use a Saks coupon for a beauty purchase!
Baby Beluga, sweet…..ah well, pray there is no perfume with a connection to a Baby shark ?
My nephews are reaaaallly into baby shark and its a gigantic earworm and I caught myself singing it in the shower last week. ?
I really wish you hadn’t mentioned Baby Shark
LOL. I just think of the song whenever I wear Cuir Beluga!
I’ll call dibs on #8 if you please!
1) I have gotten into the habit of spraying a scent on some kerchief and keeping that in a Ziplock bag for those unwanted aromas during commutes! When there is a noxious scent, pull out the kerchief and place it on my face.
2) Ugh, I am glad that most Portlanders don’t use umbrellas all that much! Just hooded raincoats!
I should try to baggie method!
I hear you in not using umbrellas. It really was not raining hard at all!
Same here in Montréal, mostly hooded raincoats. So much easier on crowded sidewalks.
I’m such a dork. Will dibs properly on the proper thread. Sorry.
No worries. Saw the dibs and your email!
Double points from me for adding a song to the cp!???
Now I have “Baby Shark” as an earworm. It hasn’t bothered me enough to sing the theme to “Barney” though. That is my desperation move to kill off very persistent earworms. ??
Smart of you to have an antidote to earworms ?
I do get a lot of them… ?
I wore the civet-heavy Nina Ricci Fleur de Fleurs, to celebrate animalics and to celebrate that they don’t come from actual animals anymore!
Perfect! I thought about Jicky extrait for the same reason. I may wear it next week.
Chameleon for me today! I love this one! It’s also perfectly tropical- we are getting out of the hotel and headed to the beach this weekend. We are going stir crazy here and found a place with RV spots on the water. Yay for a little weekend adventure and the ocean!
I also love Chameleon. Have fun at the beach!
You smell great and your weekend sounds fabulous! Which beach?
Newport Beach! So beautiful!
That sounds fantastic! Enjoy the beach!
Enjoy your beach time this weekend!
Chameleon for me today! I love this one! It’s also perfectly tropical- we are getting out of the hotel and headed to the beach this weekend. We are going stir crazy here and found a place with RV spots on the water. Yay for a little weekend adventure and the ocean!
Ahhh sorry, Robin, didn’t mean to post twice. Feel free to delete lol!
I am too late, there are answers. It’s ok, the news was good enough to hear twice
You caught the stutter from CM8
I hope your toe is better! Have a fabulous weekend, KellyC. ?
It’s better! I mean, I am still hobbling but I’m keeping it taped tightly to the one next to it to keep it straight and a lot of the pain has eased for sure! Thanks!!!
Keep it taped even after you think it is better, that is my advice! I untaped too soon, should have gone another couple weeks.
Sotd is T-Rex, Zoologist
Perfect for a grey and very rainy day.
Thank you everyone for the kind comments yesterday!
I am really looking forward to working again and a decent paycheck haha (dont want to disappoint Donatella next time right?). But thankfully I still have a few weeks of relaxing before I start.
So yay, having free time and not stressing about writing and sending job applications feels so good.
Looking back: I think Ive sent approximately 10 or 11 applications letters. Some of them were for positions a bit far fetched though (for online retailers, i dont have any online retail experience at all haha).
I think I did pretty good..I kinda expected it would take a little but longer, especially because of the summer vacation period in july and august (when not much happens at most HR departments haha)….
But i did good to pick this year for a switch. There are so many job openings right now in The Netherlands. Dunno how long that will last though, I am not overtly optimistic about the economic developments.
I think I missed your post yesterday, but assuming your got the job! Congrats, and cheers to new perfume purchases✌?
I, too, missed your post. Congrats and good luck ahead!
Nice to have that off your mind and still have a few weeks to relax. Enjoy!
I am glorious beguiling CIVET from Zoologist today – it matches this glorious day in DC.
This is my favorite, we have some great memories together.
Happy Friday All.
Happy Friday, Angela.
All this Civet talk is giving me a bad lemming! ?
I couldn’t stop smelling myself when I wore Civet yesterday. It’s really so good!
Hello there, house twin!
My super picky husband, who swans about in Jacomo Silences and Chanel No. 19 commented on how much he likes Civet too.
I get some points today–IDYLLWILD (it’s a forest–animals live there)!!
Points or no points, I smell great if I do say so myself. My dear nephew, who was planning on dining with me tonight, had a fender bender. Car hurt, but not him so all is good. Now what do I do with all this food I prepped!!
It won’t be wasted, as you will eat it over the weekend since it’s all ready. Glad your nephew is fine.
Happy he’s ok! But agree with Aurora- leftovers means not having to prep anything for a few days.
Glad your nephew is ok! What did you prepare?
Oh no! Glad to hear that your nephew is OK.
I am glad just a fender was bent and you smell wonderful. I purchased a full bottle of this as well this summer.
You get points, there were no rules! Sorry about your meal.
Twin of Bob but my Mechant Loup is layered with Rouge Bunny Rouge Tenera in order to smell like a nutty rum. I’m not very adventurous with layering but I do enjoy this particular combo.
Oh, clever you, Mechant Loup! I own that one but never thought of it. You smell mysterious and intriguing!
Thank you Calypso. Yours is clever too.
I have hands-down the best animal-associated scent today. Not to brag or anything. What is this wondrous find, you might be asking? Ha ha ha ha, KITTEN FUR by Demeter. It’s the best because KITTENS ARE THE BEST ANIMALS OF ALL!
Actually tbh, I can’t stand this cologne, but put a tiny spray on my fingers anyway so I could say I wore it. I am planning to give it to my friend who has three granddaughters to consider whether it might be a good gift for one of them.
? I wasn’t prepared for that second paragraph, and yes, kittens are the absolute bomb?
Ha ha! I agree – kitten fur smells great, but only when there’s a kitten attached.
Wow, that one made me laugh out loud. Thanks!
Also in full agreement! Kittens! ?
You are so correct! Kittens are the best! Our cat’s feet smelled like popcorn..lol.
Ha, I wonder how actual cats react to that cologne!
Kittens are awesome! ?
WEARING A BEAST TODAY!
A sexy beast, that is. LL Rose 31.
Guys, I love this frag. I just discovered it two weeks ago. Why did I avoid it all these years? Because I am terrified of cumin and animalic or dirty fragrances. But this is a cuddly, human, perfect scent. I love it.
Oh my! That sounds great.
It really is a great scent.
I started out in a solid perfume called Kitten, for Catbird NYC. And then I through out the solid. It’s a pleasant, milky, musky scent but the solid is the worst! It’s as hard as a taper candle wax and so difficult to use.
Moved on to Provence Sante Tilleul for the honey/pollen effect. This is such a nice cool weather linden.
Too bad about that solid perfume. I’d be tempted to keep something like that on a sunny window sill. Maybe it would perfume the room that way.
Surprise participation today, when I remembered that Chèvrefeuille translates as goat leaf. Of course, when I scroll back to read the comments, I bet I’ll find that others thought of that earlier
I just checked; you are the only one who thought that up!
And having just got back to the bottom of the page, I can confirm that there are some very smart people on NST – so many ways to connect to the CP!
Agreed. That’s one of the best things about CPs!
I like all the animals today. I have Smell Bent Snow Siren – a mermaid is on the label – on one arm (smells like tigers balm opening with pineapple coconut close behind) and Glamour Yeti ( ambergris and spice and vaniila) on the other. Both good for another chilly morning.
At least 5 animal references
Wearing Chanel No. 5 in EDT and EDP today in honor of Robert Herrmann who passed away on Tuesday. I know him as a moderator on Facebook Fragrance Friends and his contributions to CaFleureBon. My condolences to his many fragrance friends and family.
And I wore Guerlain Habit Rouge Dress Code on Wednesday in his memory.
I love all the iterations of Habit Rouge! It seems like a lovely fragrance to wear in honor of Robert.
Woods and spice – guiaic wood, clove, cinnamon and a bit of vanilla – my favorite notes for a chilly October day. Dame Perfumery Dark Horse is perfect for the cp and today’s weather. It felt so good to put on a flannel shirt and jeans today -I am so over summer and the hot, sticky weather we had early this week.
Took the cat with the broken bones in her paw to the orthopedic specialist as recommended. The good news is no surgery is needed and, basically, it just takes awhile to heal with the splint/cast. The bad news is they strongly insisted she needed to be kept (for probably another 8 weeks) isolated in a room with absolutely nothing she can jump on or, if that’s not possible, she should be kept in a dog crate. This for a 4-year old cat who’s not sick and has had the run of the house and whose favorite spot is the top of the cat tree? Those of you who’ve had cats – have you ever see a cat who loves to sleep on the floor? Waiting for a call from my regular vet to discuss; she had recommended restricting activity but nothing this drastic.
Bought lots of yummy pumpkin foods at Aldi today and looking forward to some good cooking and eating this weekend. Wishing a good one ahead for everyone!
No cat here but I know cats love a sunny spot regardless of where it is!
Oh! Good point!
Maybe she’d enjoy some cat tunnels?
I have one cat who will sleep on the floor in a cat bed, or inside what I call her “cat pyramid”. The other two will check out a box this is on the floor, but won’t stay there for an extended period of time.
So maybe a nice cat bed would do the trick?
Argh! Should be “a box THAT is….” Proofreading fail! ?
Some of the cat trees can be taken apart. If that’s possible, I would put the top (not on the base) onto the floor. She’s familiar with it and it’s smells. I think it would be very comforting.
Second idea— a couch cushion on the floor in a sunny spot as hajusuuri suggested. If there’s nothing much in the room and that’s the tallest spot, it will be the equivalent of a (short but lovely) queen’s boudoir bed.
Thanks, everyone, for some great ideas. We’ll see what works. Now, if only I can figure out how to make the sun shine every day . . .
I started out with Zoologist Moth this morning, but spritzed a little too much of it, and the powdery notes started to remind me of bug spray. Very meta, but still had to use plain old soap and water to scrub it off.
I have moved on to Parfum de Marley’s Pegasus, which I am enjoying much more.
You can only wear just so much meta
Far away from my collection, so the only animalic scent I have is the musc of Narciso for her…from the freebiemeet last time.
Today it was Grey and cold, so we just spent the day inside with reading, watching movies and knitt8.
Wearing some Zoologist Dodo from a sample this afternoon. It’s reminding me of something I’ve smelled before but haven’t figured it out yet.
Happy Friday all! I had to trundle in to work this morning for some o/t on my day off; part 2 of my project has started! I may have new bottles to report for next quarter ?. Just sayin’!
New bottles to celebrate? De-stress?
What is it with working on one’s day off? Not judging because this means I have to judge myself ?. I’m taking off on October 9th for the Medicare appeal case but because I am filling in temporarily for someone who just left and her portfolio was Asia-Pacific, I scheduled time with people I need to meet late Tuesday night and into the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Oy vey!
I’m pretty sure we work WAY too hard! I was doing some heavy research and have a couple things in shopping carts for now; more research may be required.
Wishing you the best possible outcome for the appeal. You certainly deserve a big win.
Really late today! I had beautiful autumn weather, with the sun making a return appearance. Very happy to see it! ???
SOTD = back in Zoologist Rhinoceros EdP. So nice, I had to wear it twice! It had some floral notes in it today that weren’t present in yesterday’s wet/misty weather. Still plenty of leather and smoke, though. ?
It was a beautiful day in NY.
Been in theme with Tabu
Super late but I just wanted to join in with vintage RL Safari (partial points, maybe?)
Work has been tough lately and school on top of that but if anyone reads this far I just want to say thank you all for keeping me company during my lunch breaks at work! I finally have a couple of days off in a row and I plan to be scented the whole time!!!!
Safari should get full points! Nst is also my work lunch date?
Scent of the evening: Assam of India. I know the regular bottle has elephants on it. What I have are decants. (Thank you, Rayleighblue!) I have a bit of a sample of Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant left (Thank you, Barqs!), but went for a lighter scent for this evening.
It just wasn’t a week where I participated in the project, but I wore some perfumes and colognes, mostly in the evening. Like I’ve said, I enjoy many of the interactions here. A lot of you impress me with your cleverness and imagination, and some of you just crack me up with your observations and jokes and funny rationalizations.
I started off in Musc Ravageur, now wearing my sample of Bengal Rouge.
And…what did you think of Bengale Rouge?
It’s gorgeous, reminds me a bit of Hiram Green’s Shangri La, minus the initial cinnamon note in BR. Low sillage but very good longevity. Definitely FBW.
Checking in on my break. I’m wearing Cuir D’Ange, which for the longest time I read as D’orange, lol, i don’t know why.
Good wishes for my son tomorrow morning, 7 am he will be retaking the S.A.T test. He had a tutor this summer for it, so I am feeling positive for him… also nervous, of course.
Fingers and toes crossed for your son tomorrow! ?
Sending positive thoughts!
Fingers crossed for him! Sending as many good vibes as I can!
Best of luck to your son, Lillyjo and you smell good.
Sending good luck vibes!!
My sotd is Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant, pretending I’m somewhere far warmer than it is here today!
How cold is it where you are? It’s 49 degrees right now for me.
47 here, it’s meant to be spring!
Oh got it. Lucky you have spring/summer to look forward to. I hope you see the sun soon?
Thank you! It felt like a long winter this year, I’m ready to see the sun
You smell great, I love that one but because it’s a huge perfume on me I went for a 30ml bottle with no elephant on it alas.
Thanl you! I bought a mini unsniffed a couple of months ago mostly because I loved the bottle and have been really enjoying it. Think it might need to go on the FB list
47 and raining cats and dogs! This is in New Zealand where it’s meant to be spring!
Whoops this was meant to be a reply to lillyjo above
Love the gravatar!
Commando the last several days due to cold. I make a good zombie: shuffling around with a vacant stare and breathing through my mouth. At least I took a shower today, so I do smell good! Yesterday it might have been a questionable thing.
That does sound like a good zombie impression. Hope you feel better soon!
