Friday scent of the day 10/4

Posted by Robin on 4 October 2019 316 Comments

It's Friday and World Animal Day! Our community project for today: do what you like with the World Animal Day theme.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm getting cp points and extending my summer with L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons.

Reminder: on 10/11, celebrate National Apple Month by wearing a perfume with an apple note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Thank you, Deva! I hoarded the last drops the most I could, but I didn’t want to risk evaporation anymore.

    I am not participating today

    YSL Cinema

I am eating a cupcake for breakfast and I know no one here will judge me. The kids made them last night but I didn’t try one..BUT…
    I couldn’t resist this morning.
They are staring at me these cupcakes. They smell so sweet and so good..I get wafts of the aroma when I walk into the kitchen…

    I have no will power

Happy FriYAY as some of you say..

LOL. Sometimes the batter is the best part!

If I don’t get to try a dessert in the evening, I’ve been known to try it at breakfast instead. Fortunately, coffee cake and such can be a brunch-type food. :)

I stopped making cup cakes. Because i just eat the whole batch in two sittings (i cant stop after just one) and feel horribly guilty and bloated afterwards.
Also, I am not a very good baker so its all good.
If I want to treat myself or others I buy good chocolate. Its harder for me to over eat chocolate.

I can usually stop after maybe two small cupcakes or one large cupcake. I eat too many sweets when I have my midnight snack, though. As for chocolate, the Philadelphia Premium Outlet stores include a Harry & David store, and I saw that they had dark chocolate truffles. No willpower when it comes to things like that. Truly, they had *so much* interesting stuff there, but I wasn’t too bad. The only other thing I got was mango chutney.

I picked Berdoues Assam of India (which I received from the lovely Pixel) today without considering the CP, but the branding has a lot of adorable elephants so it fits the theme pretty well! This is really nice, I’ve been meaning to smell it for ages and it doesn’t disappoint.

I am participating in the cp wearing my large sample of Cartier L’Heure Fougueuse IV. It’s a gorgeous green/hay/leather/stable mixture. Not my usual type of fragrance, but it’s beautiful and so well done. These l’Heures are all incredibly high quality. It has grown on me greatly.

Hi! I do have Dzing! and love it, too, but they are not at all alike. Dzing! is all caramel candy/leather/musk/circus fun on me and Fougueuse is all green/soft leather and woods/high class weekend in the country. I’d send you a sample but I’m almost out of mine – it was one of those nice 3 ml test tube type samples. (I think fragrancenet has the sample. Not affiliated, just happy to enable.)

People! What a week! I’m trying to smell like a classy dame in Chanel BoE today, but feeling decidedly disgruntled.

Off (finally!) after 2 days of running like a madman with 10 patients (!) yesterday, but had to get up at the a$$crack of dawn for a 7am RCA meeting. You can bet your bippy I’m getting paid for sitting in a room for over an hour in a meeting about an event that had nothing to do with me! Unfortunately, I was a witness. I’m tempted to go through life with my eyes closed to avoid any form of “witnessing” in the future.

T-Rex had an Ugly GI situation that required veterinary assistance because she once again ate some disgusting, putrid offal at the park on Sunday. Cause and effect! She just doesn’t get it…

Monday, found the root of my dental issue (literally) is a piece of tooth that was left behind when I had a fractured tooth extracted 2 YEARS ago!

It won’t make it out of the 40’s this week with nights dipping below freezing. Fall has left me in her rear view mirror, it seems.

Then, found out IRS says I owe them money from 2016!!! I have gotten a return every year, so figuring this out will be all kinds of fun!

Stick a fork in me, I’m DONE! ??‍♀️
    But I smell DIVINE!

I was going to go with Assam of India for the elephants, but it’s just too cold for that. Luckily PriscillaE reminded me I have some Dame Dark Horse, so that is my SotD.
Started my day by taking my car in for an oil change this morning before a weekend of driving. I’m two and a half years into a 3 year lease and when she asked how it was running, I told her great now that it has a new battery. The original one died a couple of weeks ago. Well, not only did I get today’s oil change for free, she gave me 2 coupons for the next 2 to be free also! Score! I love good customer service.?

I’m doing Cuir de Russie for obvious reasons although no cows were sacrificed for this beauty.
And I’m wearing some Œillet Bengale, for the stripes of Bengal that once graced the beautiful and mysterious Tiger Swan.

Tea of this morning was a very beautiful Nepal Golden something and I have since switched to Charlotte au chocolat by DF.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

It’s finally fall, fall is here! ?? I have a strong urge to run through the yard tossing leaves into the air lol. Sunny, breezy and cool. My little town has a major festival the first Friday of every month that draws hundreds of people from the region and tonight is Octoberfest, the best one of the year imo. Perfect weather for it.

    Zoologist Moth today.

I had all kinds of ideas for this week. Musc Rav for the animalic! The Zoologists! Grace Coddington for the kitty bottle! MKK and BaV!

Oh well, I have new stuff to play with. Muddled Plum on my left arm, Une Rose on my right.

I had a thoroughly delightful lunch with Calypso yesterday. We sniffed and spritzed at Saks and Neiman’s. Tried out Rose&Cuir on a card, but neither of us were tempted to try it on skin. But we both tried many new things and had a great time! ?

NancyL is WAY more organized and efficient than I am, and she took notes. Let’s see if she’ll weigh in. My memory is that we both recoiled a bit as it struck us as a very dry earthy leather with no rose we could detect. Strange, huh? We also tried Chanel 1957 and weren’t super-impressed, though she liked it more than I did, and another new one from Dior whose name was something like Mixed Spices. It was nice enough but too bland. We were both initially very taken with Memo Tiger’s Nest but less so after awhile. Hmmm, what else. I absolutely loved Memo Lallibela. It has my name on it right from the notes: rose, frankincense, patchouli. MMMMM. They have these gorgeous small leather-covered decanters now (like for a purse spray) with 10 ml (I think) sets of three minis to go with them. Containers are $160 and mini sets are $120, too expensive I thought, especially given that the FB is $160 and you’d get more ml with that. Decisions, decisions. All those Memo bottles together in a display are extremely striking looking, that’s for sure!

R&C apparently doesn’t have any actual rose in it. There is an interview with Ellena on Fragrantica where he discusses that.

I have a sample, have skin tested once but am undecided. Will give it another go once my cold clears up. Though, at Malle prices, if it isn’t insta-love, then nail, meet coffin.

Calypso hit it right on the nose regarding Rose&Cuir. No rose to speak of, and it just seemed thin and angular on paper. I’ll probably test it on skin one of these days, though.

The Dior, Spice Blend, disappointed me. I was excited to sniff it, but it was weak. I would have liked a sample of it, but know from past experience that the Dior folks never give samples. I was saving skin for the R&C. ? Had I known what that one smelled like, I would have tried the Dior on skin.

I tried Malle’s The Night on skin, one of the new and stratospherically priced scents, and it was lovely. But not THAT lovely. It dried down to a comfy soft oud musk by evening.

Tried Grand Soir for the first time. Now I see why so many people like it! Mmmmm, wonderful stuff!

Rose & Cuir is much softer on skin than on paper. I found it sharp on the paper strip and asked to be sprayed on skin and the development is quite different, so it ends up way softer. It’s not by any means a soft skin scent like Cuir d’Ange, but paper doesn’t do it justice imho.

Robin, I love the botanical illustration you chose.

Well, I seem to have come down with one of the many sicknesses going around work and am about to go back to sleep. I forced myself to get up and get ready for work, but I realized I am just not well enough to go in. I hate that dumb guilt that sometimes comes with taking a sick day since I’ll be missing three meetings, one of which was already rescheduled. Oh well, that’s what good coworkers are for.

I just put on some L’Aromatica Pumpkin Honey oil for comfort, so I’m still participating in the CP. Honey perfume for the bees.

I stopped by the beautiful National Museum of Women in the Arts this week (Washington, DC) and saw two interesting new exhibits, including one by Judy Chicago.

Also the gift shop, which is always great, has scented products now. They all come in small sizes, including natural perfumes by the Artisan Perfume Company:

    https://smokeperfume.com/

There was a fantastic Palo Santo room spray, too.

NOTE: Admission is free the first Sunday of every month, so this Sunday, October 6, would be a great time to visit if you’re in the area.

I don’t remember if you love Chanel. If so, save a couple of hours to spend with Akil at the Chanel Espace Parfums (Chevy Chase Saks 5th Avenue) and explore the Olfactorium.

Actually, that exploration of the 48 basic perfume ingredients would be interesting to any perfumista, although it’s a better use of his time if one plans to buy something. I volunteer as tribute! ;-)

    Happy Friday!

    1) I am in Cuir de Lancome…which is getting frighteningly low in the bottle! BUT I cannot believe the bottle has lasted me this long! I like it better than Cuir de Russie and that is saying something!

    2) Help me replace this scent when it is gone- chime in and let me know what is YOUR fave leatherish/inside of a purse scent?

    3) And I am in my winter uniform early: Black c neck sweater, black jeans, ‘It’ sneakers and my big scarf. Fall just bypassed us, and even though tomorrow will be a 70F day, it will be very chilly.

    4) Tomorrow is garden clean up day- the hail did a lot of damage, but I have new seeds and seedlings, plus a neighbor gifted me a greenhouse and rain barrels, so your girl will be WORKING tomorrow! There a bunch of festivals and concerts in the afternoon and evening as well, so I will be BUSY.

    Baby beluga ????

I am smelling mighty fine in 8 spritzed of SOTD = Guerlain Cuir Beluga

…from an official Guerlain Travel spray. I all cozy and comfy wrapped in a cloud of vanilla and a wee bit of leather.

This is separate from the Freebiemeet so even if you already “used up” your 2 dibs in the Freebiemeet, you are still eligible as long as you meet my definition of NST regular and have a U.S. mailing address. Go to the bottom of Tuesday’s SOTD poll:

    https://nstperfume.com/2019/10/01/tuesday-scent-of-the-day-10-1/

    In Commuting Woes land:
    – I have to resurrect my White Flower oil to counteract some aroma
    – Yesterday, despite the rain, I walked. As with practically any city, there are inevitable scaffolding that significantly narrows down the sidewalk. And while some people continue to keep their umbrella open while walking under the awning, others would close theirs until they are back out in the open. This woman behind whom I was walking decided to just lower her umbrella in front of her and twirled it to shake off the water. She was seriously oblivious to people behind her! I had to pretty much push through her left, no choice but to bump her a little (because earphone) and loudly say EXCUSE ME.

Now I’m off to see if I can use a Saks coupon for a beauty purchase!

      1) I have gotten into the habit of spraying a scent on some kerchief and keeping that in a Ziplock bag for those unwanted aromas during commutes! When there is a noxious scent, pull out the kerchief and place it on my face.

      2) Ugh, I am glad that most Portlanders don’t use umbrellas all that much! Just hooded raincoats!

Perfect for a grey and very rainy day.

Thank you everyone for the kind comments yesterday!
I am really looking forward to working again and a decent paycheck haha (dont want to disappoint Donatella next time right?). But thankfully I still have a few weeks of relaxing before I start.
So yay, having free time and not stressing about writing and sending job applications feels so good.

Looking back: I think Ive sent approximately 10 or 11 applications letters. Some of them were for positions a bit far fetched though (for online retailers, i dont have any online retail experience at all haha).

I think I did pretty good..I kinda expected it would take a little but longer, especially because of the summer vacation period in july and august (when not much happens at most HR departments haha)….
But i did good to pick this year for a switch. There are so many job openings right now in The Netherlands. Dunno how long that will last though, I am not overtly optimistic about the economic developments.

I have hands-down the best animal-associated scent today. Not to brag or anything. What is this wondrous find, you might be asking? Ha ha ha ha, KITTEN FUR by Demeter. It’s the best because KITTENS ARE THE BEST ANIMALS OF ALL!

Actually tbh, I can’t stand this cologne, but put a tiny spray on my fingers anyway so I could say I wore it. I am planning to give it to my friend who has three granddaughters to consider whether it might be a good gift for one of them.

I started out in a solid perfume called Kitten, for Catbird NYC. And then I through out the solid. It’s a pleasant, milky, musky scent but the solid is the worst! It’s as hard as a taper candle wax and so difficult to use.
Moved on to Provence Sante Tilleul for the honey/pollen effect. This is such a nice cool weather linden.

Woods and spice – guiaic wood, clove, cinnamon and a bit of vanilla – my favorite notes for a chilly October day. Dame Perfumery Dark Horse is perfect for the cp and today’s weather. It felt so good to put on a flannel shirt and jeans today -I am so over summer and the hot, sticky weather we had early this week.

Took the cat with the broken bones in her paw to the orthopedic specialist as recommended. The good news is no surgery is needed and, basically, it just takes awhile to heal with the splint/cast. The bad news is they strongly insisted she needed to be kept (for probably another 8 weeks) isolated in a room with absolutely nothing she can jump on or, if that’s not possible, she should be kept in a dog crate. This for a 4-year old cat who’s not sick and has had the run of the house and whose favorite spot is the top of the cat tree? Those of you who’ve had cats – have you ever see a cat who loves to sleep on the floor? Waiting for a call from my regular vet to discuss; she had recommended restricting activity but nothing this drastic.

Bought lots of yummy pumpkin foods at Aldi today and looking forward to some good cooking and eating this weekend. Wishing a good one ahead for everyone!

I have one cat who will sleep on the floor in a cat bed, or inside what I call her “cat pyramid”. The other two will check out a box this is on the floor, but won’t stay there for an extended period of time.

So maybe a nice cat bed would do the trick?

Argh! Should be “a box THAT is….” Proofreading fail! ?

Some of the cat trees can be taken apart. If that’s possible, I would put the top (not on the base) onto the floor. She’s familiar with it and it’s smells. I think it would be very comforting.

Second idea— a couch cushion on the floor in a sunny spot as hajusuuri suggested. If there’s nothing much in the room and that’s the tallest spot, it will be the equivalent of a (short but lovely) queen’s boudoir bed.

Thanks, everyone, for some great ideas. We’ll see what works. Now, if only I can figure out how to make the sun shine every day . . .

I started out with Zoologist Moth this morning, but spritzed a little too much of it, and the powdery notes started to remind me of bug spray. Very meta, but still had to use plain old soap and water to scrub it off.

I have moved on to Parfum de Marley’s Pegasus, which I am enjoying much more.

Far away from my collection, so the only animalic scent I have is the musc of Narciso for her…from the freebiemeet last time.
Today it was Grey and cold, so we just spent the day inside with reading, watching movies and knitt8.

Wearing some Zoologist Dodo from a sample this afternoon. It’s reminding me of something I’ve smelled before but haven’t figured it out yet.

Happy Friday all! I had to trundle in to work this morning for some o/t on my day off; part 2 of my project has started! I may have new bottles to report for next quarter ?. Just sayin’!

      New bottles to celebrate? De-stress?

What is it with working on one’s day off? Not judging because this means I have to judge myself ?. I’m taking off on October 9th for the Medicare appeal case but because I am filling in temporarily for someone who just left and her portfolio was Asia-Pacific, I scheduled time with people I need to meet late Tuesday night and into the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Oy vey!

I’m pretty sure we work WAY too hard! I was doing some heavy research and have a couple things in shopping carts for now; more research may be required.

Wishing you the best possible outcome for the appeal. You certainly deserve a big win.

Really late today! I had beautiful autumn weather, with the sun making a return appearance. Very happy to see it! ???

SOTD = back in Zoologist Rhinoceros EdP. So nice, I had to wear it twice! It had some floral notes in it today that weren’t present in yesterday’s wet/misty weather. Still plenty of leather and smoke, though. ?

Super late but I just wanted to join in with vintage RL Safari (partial points, maybe?)
Work has been tough lately and school on top of that but if anyone reads this far I just want to say thank you all for keeping me company during my lunch breaks at work! I finally have a couple of days off in a row and I plan to be scented the whole time!!!!

Scent of the evening: Assam of India. I know the regular bottle has elephants on it. What I have are decants. (Thank you, Rayleighblue!) I have a bit of a sample of Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant left (Thank you, Barqs!), but went for a lighter scent for this evening.

It just wasn’t a week where I participated in the project, but I wore some perfumes and colognes, mostly in the evening. Like I’ve said, I enjoy many of the interactions here. A lot of you impress me with your cleverness and imagination, and some of you just crack me up with your observations and jokes and funny rationalizations. :)

It’s gorgeous, reminds me a bit of Hiram Green’s Shangri La, minus the initial cinnamon note in BR. Low sillage but very good longevity. Definitely FBW.

Checking in on my break. I’m wearing Cuir D’Ange, which for the longest time I read as D’orange, lol, i don’t know why.
Good wishes for my son tomorrow morning, 7 am he will be retaking the S.A.T test. He had a tutor this summer for it, so I am feeling positive for him… also nervous, of course.

Commando the last several days due to cold. I make a good zombie: shuffling around with a vacant stare and breathing through my mouth. At least I took a shower today, so I do smell good! Yesterday it might have been a questionable thing.
