It's Flavortown Friday! (And don't forget, tomorrow is Freebiemeet Saturday.) Our community project for today: wear a scent that you associate with one of the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, umami or bitter). Triple bonus points for starting on Monday and doing all 5. Thank you to Regina for the idea!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm taking triple bonus points in Hermès Brin de Réglisse.
Reminder: 10/4 is World Animal Day...do what you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Happy Friday! I will be wearing Tom Ford Black Orchid when I get home after a haircut this morning. Is it savory? It’s big, dark and gorgeous, to me, anyway.
Sounds savory and delicious
I think it has a truffle note! Umami!
Exactly!
Black Orchid has a GIGANTIC truffle note on my skin. It absolutely counts for umami!
I’m wearing a healthy smudge of Lush All Good Things solid, which starts out with an incredibly bright and vivid pineapple (which is not listed in the notes). It lasts for ages, though it’s gradually swamped by smoky/woody/resinous notes. Still: *so much sweet yummy pineapple!*
I don’t know why I have such poor luck with Lush solids. My skin must not be warm enough or something.
Sometimes the solids start out a little slowly on me, but then I notice them more. I like jasmine, but I can only take the fragrance from the solid version of Lush Lust for so long. I don’t know how I’d do with the perfume. I don’t know if I could take a stronger-than-the-solid version of Breath of God, either. I may have tried the cologne spray on paper at the Lush store at King of Prussia. I think my reaction would have been, “Whoa, strong!”
Over the last year and a half or so, I haven’t had to worry about being too cold. Instead, I ask the people around me if the room is hot, because I’ll suddenly feel terribly overheated. They tell me it’s just me. I’ve gotten medicine for that, but am still running very warm. Solid perfumes seem to melt very easily on my skin now. (And when Mom has cold hands, she can warm them up by touching my skin.
lol)
That might be it, I might not be waiting long enough.
I’m doing sweet, sweet and sweet (but still interesting) with Kiss me Tender by Parfums de Nicolaï.
Tea will be DF Jardin du Luxembourg while pretending I’m still in Paris 😉
You smell wonderful!
I am taking ALL five points with St Clair Scents Eve on one wrist and Pandora on the other. They are so incredibly complex and so chock full of naturals that they morph over time on my skin and smell sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami at various stages! I told Diane that I cannot pinpoint if they are gourmand, chypre, green or oriental. They are a class unto themselves and absolutely divine!
I see those scents on her website available only as samples….are they previews of new scents??
They are new scents and they are available as full bottles.
Aha! I guess I didn’t look at the website that well.?
I know CM8 already responded to you but I will chime in to say they most definitely are available in travel spray and FB. Ask me how I know ?
How do you know this, hajusuuri??
Waaah, do I have to answer you. OK! I got a travel spray of Pandora (after little samples sampling). ?
Sweet
Shalimar parfum Initial
I think I had a full week of this
Tea, also sweet Pleine Lune with honey and cream (soy)
Also, non perfume related (and mostly for NYers) but I mentioned to OaklandF that I am going to see Antigone in the Park Ave Armory and in the Times today it got a critics pick
OaklandF has been enabler pins for recommending me Greek fiction books to read, so that is where the connection comes from
What fun, hope it is good!
You smell lovely!
Thank you!
I’m in a double-dose of sweetness: Byredo Gypsy Water perfume oil (it’s all about the vanilla on my skin) topped off with a dab of Hempz Caramel Apple Souffle lotion.
Apologies if I am wrong but was it you who really liked Pacifica Sandalwood? The Pacifica website has it 30 percent off as it is a discontinued scent. They also have solids of Persian Rose for the same percentage off as all the solids are discontinued as well.
Yes that’s me! Thanks for the heads up!!
Doing sweet (it is Friday after all) in the pineapple, hint of rum and vanilla cream custard of 1270 by Frapin.
I remember when this came out, it was all the rage, rightfully so, on Basenotes and the like. You smell wonderful.
Yes, I should have done a different order! Friday should not be bitter. Although really I smell fantastic and not ALL bitter.
I’m in Ummagumma for the “um” syllable, which is apparently as close to umami as I’m going to get. And it kind of fits the flavor profile … sort of. Well, not really, but I’m going to pretend it does. And maybe go order a bottle, because it’s goooood.
It IS SO delicious! You smell fabulous ??
I think of you every time I wear it, Deva, because you were in serially-monogamous relationships with your fragrances for quite a while and Ummagumma was one in that series. I remember being awed that you were able to wear the same scent so many days running. I used to be able to, but now am too fickle. 🙂
Do it!
Get that bottle! You smell delicious!
Lillyjo and PL67, you enablers! The more I wear Ummagumma, the more I want a FB … luckily (?), I’m at work now and that’s serving as my defense. A weekend is about to happen, though, and I doubt I’ll be able to resist much longer. 😀
Update: Resistance is futile. FB on its way. Enabler pins all around. 🙂
?
I’ve taken the same liberties with umami as you have ?
Recovery day 1 after 3 days of adulting. Day 5 of Bengale Rouge. I think it’s love.
Giving a shout out to the post office here because I had a missing package, supposedly delivered yesterday. This morning when I went to pick it up, three people spent about about 20 minutes looking for it. They found it, and then apologized for my wait! What a fabulous group of postal workers. I think I’ll take them some bagels tomorrow morning in thanks.
As JadainGa says, “Happy FriYAY!”
3 twelves in a row? That always kicks my butt. You’ve earned your recovery day-enjoy! Also nice that the PO found your package.?
Yes, 3 in a row was not my idea, but whatevah! The package was not perfume related, alas. Just forwarded mail from home with some bills and BS. Finally caught up with me from way back in May. Had it stayed lost, I wouldn’t have been sad. ?
WOW, that would never happen in my post office. Yay.
Such is the beauty of small towns! ??
I live in a small town!
Great! It depends on who’s in duty. I want to disappear one of them.
Uh oh! Glad I’m not the one you want to disappear! ?
LOL
I’m finding BR to have some real lasting power….
It does, but it’s not loud about it. Kind of the like the Mona Lisa’s smile?
Hurray for a very good Friday for you, Deva!
I’m doing sweet and salty in Elixir de Merveilles. I never met a Merveilles I didn’t like. : )
Hey, almost twin!?
Agree! Would love an entire Merveilles collection…and the bottles are so cool!
You smell great! I love that one – it’s my winter Merveilles (I have one for each season.)
Eau des Merveilles for the salty note.
Had the worst insomnia last night so I will be dragging today? luckily it’s not a work day for me.
Me too, but it was mostly because my kids had a bad night of sleeping. Mr L is traveling for work so I am solo. After I dropped them at school I sprawled out on my bed and just closed my eyes for a moment. Didn’t sleep but it felt good to be quiet.
Have a good day off!
That calls for a solid nap today?
Maybe some afternoon sleep will help you to recover.
You smell great! My favorite Merveilles. Wishing you a restful day.
Hope you can sleep well tonight!
I hope you get some good sleep tonight!
Sending you some “good sleep” vibes. ?
Si, for sweet, and completely haphazardly. Have been out sick since Tuesday, and today is the first day that I am starting to be able to smell anything. (For reference: had a hot bath Tuesday evening with a Rose Jam Bath Bomb, and smelled…nothing.) Found an unopened carded sample of Si in my bin. What I get right now is sweet candied pears. I cannot perceive any patchouli at all (maybe good, because I often have trouble with that note). Will be interesting to try this again once my faculties have recovered fully and compare.
Hope your recovery will continue smoothly.
Feel better soon. I think I also have a Si sample I’ve never tried. Will have to find it and try it soon. So many scents, so little time!
Feel better soon!
Oh no! If you can’t smell Rose Jam, you’re sick.
(And the patch in Si is not strong, don’t worry)
Oh dear! Glad you are recovering.
Ooooof! Not being able to smell Rose Jam is a BAD cold. I hope that you’re on the mend soon.
Joining the pineapple brigade in JLo Deseo. I’ve been trying out a few beachy perfumes.
I should have bought that one when I had the chance. My drugstore had it on clearance.
Confession: bought it blind for $15 for 100ml. (I’ll have a lot to confess October 1st!). I’ve taken a while to warm to it, as it wasn’t as beachy as I expected. More pineapple and pond water, but it really has a nice dry down. I’m sure there are bottles floating around at mall kiosks and such.
You had me at pineapple, but lost me at pond water, lol!
Oh gosh, I don’t remember pond water. Perhaps it’s better to keep it as a memory.
Maybe you didn’t ever get pond water? ?
I don’t think I got pond water either.
Sweet as honey in Slowdive.
Good one!
I’m still not up to wearing perfume. In my place I submit my daughter’s sotd, Britney Spears Private Show, for sweet and bitter. Gloomy day, has me feeling a bit melancholy. Song of the day for all my fellow classic rock lover’s- https://youtu.be/G8nWtXp7ns4
Prayers out for Ginger Baker
Sorry for the gloominess, but you couldn’t have pick a better song- one of my favorites (I have hundreds of favorites, tho, lol).
I didn’t realize G Baker was 80 already! Did you see the documentary “Beware of Mr. Baker”? Really liked it.
And nice you have a perfume proxy ?
One song I can listen to on repeat is Badge. Just the opening bass makes it hard to believe Jack Bruce is gone.
I have not seen it, but will look for it!
Oh, gosh! Sorry to hear this about Baker. Lillyjo, thanks for posting. The illness and passing of the musicians I grew up is making me feel older than my terrible, creaky, stiff joints. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you. ✌?
Thanks! Glad you are off, finnaly!
Thanks for the song Lillyjo, hope you feel less blue soon. I don’t know Ginger Baker, will look it up.
Aurora, I often thank England for giving us such great musicians!
Cheer up! Hope your day gets better and better!
Thanks ?
Sharing the gloomy day with you. I think sometimes it’s better to just go with the melancholy rather than fight it until it lifts naturally. Sending good wishes your way for a brighter day soon.
Thanks, I agree, sometimes it’s better to just go with it.
Love that song, thanks lillyjo.
It’s so good! I went through many versions, before I settled on this one. All great!
Nice link. Did not realize he was so much older than Steve Winwood. Also cannot believe SW is 71.
71, but still hot imo!
What? Steve Winwood is 71? I was just listening to some of his tunes this morning. We are allowed to be plugged in at work; he made my day much better!
???
I love it that your daughter served as your stand-in for the CP! Sorry you’re still not feeling well and of course weather gloominess did not help either! I hope you get back to peppy shortly!
Thanks! I just hate it when my body is betraying me. My daughter picks her sotd every morning. It’s fun for me to see what she chooses. Not long ago, she picked MJ Decadence and I said “only two sprays!!” So she sprayed twice on each wrist, neck and hair! ? I’m sure the bus driver was thrilled!
OMG, your daughter is a hoot! I count 8 sprays, a girl after my own heart!
Hope you are feeling better soon, lillyjo! Glad your daughter stepped in for the SOTD!
Thanks! I was glad she picked something I could use for the project.
Your daughter as perfume stand in is adorable! I will try to send some sun your way.
Please do! Rain and storming here now.
Spent the morning in Memoir today. All I have done so far today was doing the dishes and ordered some stuff from Ulta. I like Ulta much better than Sephora. Ulta has a better rewards program, more sales and coupons and the prices are better. Had to get my shampoo and hair conditioner (on sale) and there was a mini of the Too Faced Damn Girl mascara that was on sale that I want to try. Now it’s off to put a fancy hamper together that doubles as a seat together and shower. I think Frapin 1270 will be the SOTD.
I was checking out the ULTA sale too. Thinking of getting the two faced star kit for a Christmas present. I’m saving my points to hopefully get a perfume for myself.
I was looking at that too but I am still working on some of the eyeshadow palettes that I have. I don’t know why Urban Decay fooled around with the Naked line. Too many shimmery eyeshadows in their palettes. The Too Faced palettes are fabulous though.
Agreed. I’m also upset with UD for raising the price of their lipsticks.
I’m a big fan of Ulta, Sephora lost me when they raised the price of flash shipping. Keep an eye out, they’ll have their biannual 20% off sale pretty soon.
Sephora lost me when they stopped carrying the Skyn Iceland line but found it at Ulta.
They lost me then too. And they stopped sending 3 samples and their rewards are weaksauce.
Ok, it’s not just me. My Sephora recently re-did their store, totally re-vemped.They aren’t carrying 1/2 the ‘fumes they used to plus a couple lines I used to get. Will check out Ulta when we go to Fla as there is one close to the condo.
Make sure to sign up for the rewards, if you go.
Thank you!! Will check it out!
Sad to say, my closest ULTA store used to be a lot better. Then a much bigger one was built a couple of towns over, and that store got all the goodies.
I’m wearing Elixir des Merveilles by Hermes for the salt in it.
Yes, you smell great!
Me too!
Wearing Chanel Cristalle edp. It smells sour on me after a couple of hours but I don’t mind 🙂
Sometimes it’s bitter on me, like a rotting bag of herbs. And other days it smells gorgeous. I have found that it only works on me in the winter
Is it weird that I didn’t think “rotting bag of herbs” sounded bad?
Hahaha. Not weird at all! 😉
That would depend on which herbs, for me.
Lush Kerbside Violet, the perfect candied violet fragrance. I am digging out my Violet candy as soon as I am finished posting this!
Yum! That is a lovely, lovely, lovely!
Finishing this CP on a bitter note – Fidji (galbanum, oakmoss, hyacinth).
Triple points.
This one is wonderful, you smell great, Glannys.
What Aurora said ?
I don’t know that one, but I did think of oak moss as a possibility for the bitter note yesterday. I didn’t end up choosing it, but think it definitely could count.
My long ago wedding fragrance.
I’ve been stalking that on ebay. Is vintage the only way to go or would you recommend the current version?
I curently have a decant of the vintage EDT (1986), but I think I first tried this scent in the modern version and quite liked it. But it was three years ago, a small sample, so I am not 100% sure whether it was modern or vintage. Based on my notes, the sample was a crisp green aldehydic floral, while the vintage version has more oakmoss and generally smells more ‘mature’.
Sampling DSH August Picnic, 1976 for sour today. I did cover all 5 tastes this week:
Freschiiissimo – sweet, sour and pungent (the 5th taste in Chinese medicine)
Greenwitch – salty and unami
Seattle Chocolate – bitter
Amouse Bouche – sweet
Triple points for you!
Parfums Satori Satori which she says she blended to encompass all five tastes and I think she did a good job! Regardless, this stuff just smells plain great.
You smell great!!
Thanks apsara!
Smart choice for the cp! And you smell amazing.
Deauville today and will take credit for sour, bitter and even a little salt perhaps.
I thought you were going to be doing sweet with any your great vanilla loves!
Jasmins Marzipane for the sweet this morning for a very early meeting.
Just out a dab or two of Bengale Rouge near my thumb. This stuff seems to have some power…. My samples arrived from Twisted Lily so that’ll be fun the next couple of days.
Trying to decide if I have the energy this weekend to do some of the NYC Yarn Crawl. Might be some worthwhile sales…..
1) What other samples did you get?
2) I’m intrigued by the yarn crawl! What does that entail?
Couple samples of Bengale Rouge because I’m a lemming…. Au Dela Narcisse because I remember liking it and wanted to try again. Hot Milk because that sounds interesting… they threw in Ithaka also.
Here’s the link for the yarn crawl. The places in Brooklyn look interesting. I think it’s a big deal. I may head uptown soon. https://yarncrawlnyc.com/
I only recently became aware of the big Rhinebeck wool festival. That is, apparently, boatloads of fun but very popular. Like big crowds.
Au Dela is a nice one.
That crawl looks fun! So many knitters around these days. It’s a nice trend.
Yeah, it wasn’t just old ladies like me….
You smell lovely.
Fils de Dieu, du Riz et des Agrumes! All bases covered, although whenever I wear it I a) want to eat Pho, and b) wonder why Thai basil isn’t a thing in perfumery. I think this one could use a little. Despite the list of notes, I find it a tad bland.
Smelling delicious! Now I’ve got phô in mind for dinner…
Thanks! Whenever I get phô in a restaurant, I bring home some extra broth to freeze.
Thai basil is a great add-in for ramen. My plants have gone to seed again this year, so I figure they’ll be back next year.
Sour sort of… I just lightly applied Bal d’Afrique hair perfume and MFK’s Lumiere Noire.
Left the house this AM at 6:30 for what I thought was going to be a pretty comprehensive oral surgery for my son. Short story long, it turned out that all he needed was a baby tooth pulled. So we are already back home and I am girding myself to start work. Well scented, I turn my attention to . . . the news? Work? Did you say wor- whah? Oooh. Book. Maybe just a few minutes of pleasure reading . . .
The news is a dumpster fire. Stick to a nice magazine or novel.
That!
It is my Diet Coke. I love it. It has zero calories, but is still terrible for me!
🙂
Stay far far away from the news….
Good to hear that your son’s oral surgery turned out to be something relatively simple.
Happy Friday guys!
1) I am in Angel Food Cake body cream by Carol’s Daughter followed by Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, so I smell subtly and warmly sweet and rather cuddly sexy.
1b) The body cream by Carol’s Daughter LAST AND LAST, and a little goes a long way, with no greasy afterfeel (to me). I think that they are an excellent value.
2) Will need to cover the seedlings in the garden right after work: I saw my breath this morning when I stepped outside, and we will get a low of 39F (4C) this weekend- a little to close to frost for me!
Jealous of your 39F!
Nobile 1942 Le Petite Chocolatier EdT # 3: Noir Intense
I figured there might be some bitter notes in a scent meant to have notes of dark chocolate. I think there are. It’s not bitter like fragrances with oakmoss and such in it, but it’s a fairly bitter chocolate.
As for the week, I did sweet several times, sour a couple of times, tried salty with JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt, and am now trying for bitter. I never did figure out umami. When I told someone about this project, and what foods had umami as a flavor, she said, “You could just dab some soy sauce behind your ears.” lol. No, I didn’t take her teasing advice. 🙂
If the project for a Friday is pretty straightforward, I remember about it (that’s the tough part), and have the fragrances for it, I’ll try. Sometimes I don’t visit here on a given day, and I’m not trying to count points at all. I enjoy the interactions with people, though. 🙂
I hear you!
Also, as for umami, I couldn’t figure that one out either.
Some people were mentioning perfumes with mushroom notes.
While I like eating mushrooms, I’ve been much more in the mood for vanilla and chocolate fragrances than anything much else lately. I guess I find them soothing? But I appreciate you passing along the idea. 🙂
I will send you a decant of the Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur.
As for the Nobile 1942, did you get the full set?
Thank you! 🙂
And yes. That was in the later part of last week’s spending spree. I will have much to confess to Donatella just from one week, let alone the rest of the quarter. That’s why I’m going to try to do a no-buy for the rest of the year or so.
I’m trying # 2, Praline, tonight. I’m mostly getting a salty scent from it at the moment.
Sometimes leather scents can work for umami. But maybe you aren’t a fan of those?
My abs are feeling much better than yesterday. I figure it was kind of like doing crunches after a long period of no exercise.
I have a couple of samples of leather scents now, which I will try at some point. You know that I wasn’t a fan of the HdP Marquis de Sade cologne. I got leather permeated through with cigarette smoke from that one. You and others likely have different perceptions of it.
Apparently leather fragrances used to be made with rectified birch tar. I’m quite allergic to birch, the allergist tells me. That may just be the pollen. But, as I said above, sometime I’ll experiment with leather colognes.
Sweet and salty in Thierry Mugler Womanity. A big favorite scent that I always neglect.
I am “still” alive. I am so grateful it is already Friday!
Thanks a lot to you all for your supportive and encouraging words for the past two days. They have helped me greatly. Let’s see what next week is going to bring. Peace and hugs, everyone!
I missed your posts but sending positive energies and hugs your way for brighter days ahead.
Thank you, Laila!
Same here, hope you have a wonderful weekend to compensate and you have the right attitude.
Thank you, Aurora! Happy weekend to you too! ?
I hope you have a relaxing weekend! And I’m jealous of your ability to wear Womanity, I really wanted it to work for me.
Thank you, ringthing! I am among the very few who love/like Womanity. It was love at first sniff for me. Not an easy perfume to wear for sure, but I find it incredibly interesting.
I’ve only ever smelled Womanity once, when it first came out. I’m one of those that can not wear it,but I can’t really wear any fig. Yet! I wish you a peaceful and relaxing weekend.!
Thank you, Lillyjo! Fig is one my favorite notes. I can never have enough. Womanity is a weird fig scent and I understand that is very challenging.
Hiya, scent sibling! Womanity is an odd one for sure.
I’m glad to hear that you have successfully made it to Friday. What a wretched work week you had.
Thank you, Jalapeno. It was a very difficult week indeed.
How do you compare de original Womanity with Les Perfumes de Cuir?
I wanted to wear Jo Loves Red Truffles for Umami, salty and sweet but can’t find my bottle so I’m in vintage Hermes Caleche extrait and I’m not sorry.
How could you be? You smell divine.
Thank you Regina, the woody drydown is so good and comforting.
I considered Brin de Reglisse! Salty, sour, bitter. I’m wearing La Duelle which smells like ice cream on me (and I really like it!)
Hey almost-twin! (Although I am a day late, ha)
I love salt notes so much I opted for it twice today: JH Sel Marin on one arm, JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt on the other. I almost joined some of you in wearing a Merveilles scent but I wear those all the time so I opted for something different. Smelling seaworthy today, apropos of a stormy, wet day here.
I only had time to quickly scan posts this week, but add my recommendation to the Ken Burns’ Country Music documentary some of you enjoyed. Aside from the early Appalachian music we encountered and fell in love with years ago when we serendipitously stumbled upon a mountain music fest in Kentucky, we’re not really country music fans. But we were glued to this series. The evolution of country music mirrors the history of our country and was fascinating, as were the wonderfully detailed stories of the musicians and the incredible footage. Well worth watching!
Last night we went to a 3-guitar chamber music performance and enjoyed it immensely. Whatever your musical tastes, I hope its ability to touch one’s heart and lift one’s spirit finds you this weekend.
I am still on episode 3 but I am loving the Ken Burns too 🙂
SOTD = Papillon Bengale Rouge
Doing my tandem CP of new acquisition and taste. To 4 sprays of Bengale Rouge, I added a teeny tiny spray of Indult Tihota to amp up the vanilla. Ahhhh, so satisfying. I will categorize this as umami even though it does not fit the definition ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B26WwyZhovk/?igshid=1f65g60b6aomv
***** Off-topic. ? don’t read if not interested in my Medicare appeal. I almost had a conniption on Wednesday when I saw via USPS tracking that my 3.5 pounds worth of new evidence could not be delivered because there’s no one to receive it. Oh for goodness sake, it’s not like it’s a 1 person shop! It’s a government agency with big operations and it was 1:30 in the afternoon! When I got home last night to check, I breathed a sigh of relief that it was indeed successfully delivered. Paying for Priority Mail did not help one bit. In any case, I hope it’s still considered timely as I want to get this over and done with!

You are fighting the good fight, my dear. Keep at it, we are all cheering for you for having the energy to do it!
Thank you. Part of me is doing it for the purpose of trying to parse the system for the average consumer.
I don’t think the system is meant for the average person to understand. But I admire your determination through this process.
You’re right, it’s not, which is a shame because Medicare and the other insurance companies know this and exploit it.
I’m not familiar with your Medicare appeal but my husband has been fighting with Medicare and social security for 18 months and a favorable resolution was finally reached last week. There’s hope!
I’m glad your husband got a favorable resolution. My mom stayed at sub-acute rehab for 62 days (before we moved her to a Senior Home run by nuns) and Medicare only paid for 21 days. I am appealing for Medicare to pay for the entire 62 days, the OT/PT and, if it falls within Medicare guidelines, the private duty aide we had to hire because the facility was very understaffed. Ultimately, while I hope we win, it’s not for the money (I am donating 100% of my share of mom’s estate from the appeal win) but to introduce into the system that the little guys can and will fight the system and expose the cracks AND also, specifically, the facility where my mom stayed at had serious issues that need to be addressed (for which I already had a face to face talk with the administrator). The profit motive behind Medicare Advantage and for-profit Skilled Nursing Facilities encourages collusion and fraud when they can target consumers whom they think have the ability to continue paying privately – win-win for Medicare Advantage (no $s out the door to pay for the contracted SNF) and the SNF (can collect more $s than the rate negotiated with Medicare Advantage). By my calculation, the SNF can get almost $5,000 MORE per person per month from a private payer at the lowest level of care ($11,500 vs. $6,500 they get paid by Medicare). The SNF was a 300 bed facility so even if only 5% fall into the same situation as mom, the SNF can pocket an extra almost $900k a year. Multiply the $900k by the number of facilities owned by the same company and you can see how quickly the $s add up.
More power to you and your fight. It’s a necessary one. We faced some similarities in one of my father’s 21 day stays that needed to be 2 months. Too many feelings and frustrations to think about, still.
Thank you, ringthing!
BR and Tihota sounds like a great combo. Good news the paperwork got through!
That combo is really good! And I was so glad for the confirmation that the delivery was successful.
Oh my gosh, I’m so glad it was finally delivered! Fingers double crossed for you!
Thank you!
Smelling good, Twin! Wishing you all the luck in the world with your appeal!??
Thanks twin!
I am following your appeal process with a lot of interest. I hope I won’t have to deal with anything like that. However, 2 of my friends both have parents in sub acute facilities right now.
I hope not! If they haven’t already, they should just keep asking questions and be suspicious of the answer. Even though the facility knows the family is asking specifically about their loved one, the nurse or whoever works there would typically answer with a generalized statement. For example:
Family-“How often do / did you turn / reposition my mom / dad?”
Facility-“Our protocol is to reposition patients every 2 hours.”
If you accept that as an answer, you don’t really know if they applied this to mom / dad. And unless they observe what they really do, you can’t verify that what they’re saying is true.
Chanel Chance Eau Vive and drinking a cup of Nilgiri Winter Frost black tea.
Rats! I went to a fancy food store and forgot to get some really nice tea. Am also in Chanel, the 28 La Pausa. Wouldn’t buy it since it fades away quickly, but was very happy to have had a decant.
I had intended to do Sacrebleu Intense for spicy, but another new sample begged me to try it: Amouage Portrayal, which I guess counts as sweet. The drydown smells like a fancy vanilla custard to me, though the elemi in the base keeps it interesting. I really enjoyed the evolution of this one today.
I get a lot of banana from Portrayal. I assume it has ylang ylang.
Oooh, I wish I got more banana! On first application, it was mostly a tuberose/gardenia white floral with a hint of tobacco. It settled into something more jasmine-ish later. Will hope for more banana next time.
I was going to put on MH Fleurs de Sel today, but all of this talk about pineapple made me reach for Histoires de Parfums 1804 instead since I do like a good pineapple note. I am happy with my choice. Maybe I’ll be in Fleurs de Sel tomorrow.
Fleurs de Sel is lovely.
Happy Friday!
SOTD is Paris to L.A. from A lab on Fire.
Doing sweet for the CP category with the coca-cola accord. I can add sour too with the Lime!
I may have a sample of this somewhere!
Late to the party
SotD is Romanza,
its quite bitter with a dash of sweetness
Weekend getaway with the whole family (parents, sister+bfriend, brother+wife, my 3 nephews and my only niece). Good to be surrounded by loved ones, even though its quite tiresome for an introvert like me.
Good news: going to 2nd round (as follow up for the job interview i had last week)
?
Great news! Wishing you the best! ?☘
You smell great. Fingers crossed for second interview!
Wishing you a great second interview!
Three cheers for round two! Good luck! I was the same way about family get togethers when I was younger. Now that I have no family left, I remember my long suffering signs of resentment at having to “dress up” and tolerate the horrendous celebratory dinners and events. I still don’t miss them- the get togethers, that is- although I DO miss a very specific few of my family members.
Huge congrats!
And you smell great!
Well done on getting to the round two. Good luck!
That is wonderful news!
Big congratulations for making it to round 2 of interviews!
It’s my umami day with House of Matriarch Forbidden’s earthy mushroom note. Triple bonus points this week! I had fun with this CP.
And Robin, thanks for remembering to remind us about the freebiemeet!
🙂
Angel Muse today for sweet.
My CP recap:
Mon – salty = Sel de Vetiver
Tue – bitter = Calandre
Wed – umami = Molinard Cuir
Thu – sour = You or Someone Like You
Fri – sweet = Angel Muse
This was a fun one!
Good job you ??
We made the same choices for salty and sweet!
Good luck to you, Jiji on getting to the second round after your interview. This will make for a happy week-end.
I’m going for the triple points with my salty option, Florabellio.
Saved my umami perfume for today. Chypre Mousse for a damp and rainy grey day. My male colleague said I smelled nice.
Last day at work, I almost finished my packing.
Lots of love over here for l’eau de crypt! I initially thought of this one for today, but couldn’t resist the call of Bengale Rouge. You smell AMAZING!
You smell wonderful!
That was one of my first thoughts for umami, but I think it’s too strong for me to wear to work.
Ha, I wear everything at work. My coworkers and patients have to cope….
I’m jealous. My work has a scent free policy, so I have to be discreet.
Started off with Chambre Noire, next on to Goirmand Coquin, will finish up with Tihota.
Wowee!
It’s been a fragrant day. Loading up with more Tihota now. 🙂
Holly would be proud! That is reeking havoc in the best way.
?
Hello! I’m having so much fun seeing what everyone is wearing. I saved my big umami fragrance for today: CBIHP Here, Piggy, with mushroom and truffle notes. Weirdly I love truffles but hate mushrooms, so I was nervous to wear this full-on because on paper it smelled VERY mushroomy, but on skin it was more truffle than mushroom and that blended well with the overall masculine-aromatic thing, so I ended up liking it a lot more than I expected.
Thank you for suggesting the idea.
Your mushroom perfume sounds fun.
Ah, forgot that one!
This sotd has made me crave Serge Noire..savory, smokey and sweet spices.
Sounds like a tastefully versatile fragrance ?
More gorgeous summer-ish weather for me today. ?
SOTD = Thierry Mugler Womanity Les Perfumes de Cuir EdP, from the sample stash. This covers both salty and umami, so it’s another two-fer. All five tastes have been accounted for. ?
Are you feeling better?
Nope. ? I might have to bring out the heavy duty cold remedy: Pu-erh tea with a shot of Lagavulin single malt and a big spoonful of echinacea honey. Take that, you obnoxious germs!
Yes, kick them to the curb!
I swear, this cold has addled my brain. I just pulled out my “You’re gonna get it, germs!” tea and discovered that it is a Lapsand Souchong, not a Pu-erh. And a VERY smoky one to boot.
Aww, that’s a bummer. Lots of people I know recovering, too.
I do 4-6 grams of vitamin C and 25mg of zinc and almost all the colds I get only last 3-4 days. I normally take 2-3 grams of C/day on a regular and hoping that’s why I only get 1-2 colds a year, but who knows, and I probably just jinxed myself, lol.
A double play! I hope you are feeling a little better today.
Yes to the double play, and no to feeling better, sorry to say.
Boo! I hope you improve a little each day.
This crazy weather warm/cold and the kids gping back to school. It’s the cycle…
Part of it is a poor night’s sleep last night.
You have my yesterdays weather. ?
Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks lillyjo! I hope so too… I have a dentist appointment scheduled for Monday.
I had a long day and now I am posting late. I went with Felanilla for sweet today. It’s not totally sweet but it isn’t not sweet either. I also put a dab of Bengale Rouge on one wrist to compare. They are nothing a like although the both have Iris and Vanilla in their notes. At least, I think they both do. I’m too tired to look it up.
You’re feeling a little under the weather too, aren’t you?
Yes, I was sick last week.
Back to work on Monday but just can’t totally shake it.
That sucks.
Sorry you are still not well. You do smell wonderful.
I hope uou feel better soon too!
I hope you take the time this weekend to recover! The vanilla in Bengale Rouge I very faint (to my nose), so much so I decided to amp it up with Tihota.
I’ll have to try that layering combo. Since you are enjoying it so much.
I hope you will start feeling better soon. Felanilla is wonderful and I hope it helps.
Thanks austenfan!
Just sprayed on a bit of Insolence. My hand went to my ginormous bottle of Aromatics Elixir, but my hubby is sitting about 3 feet away from me, so will keep it for Sunday instead. Its raining and cold out so it needs to be worn!
Broke the rules this morning and wore a couple sprays of La Pausa to work as a test. No one said anything! If they did I would say it’s probably my shampoo or lotion ?
Very classy way to fly under the perfumed radar with La Pausa!
I went with sweet yesterday, in the relaunch of Anne Klein II! I was stunned to see a bottle at TJ Maxx, since the original (which I wore in the 1980s) was discontinued years ago, then I realized it was a new version, by a new owner. It’s very nice! I wore it yesterday with the vintage, and they are very similar. For $12.99, I’m happy to have it! Buyers beware — the new owners have the rights to everything, so the packaging looks almost identical to the original vintage, which sells for hundreds of dollars online. This relaunch is labeled Made In China, and the new owner is palmbeachbeaute.
