Hump Day and National Comic Book Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am copying BobH by doing salty with Hermès Eau des Merveilles.
Reminder: on 9/27 we're going to Flavortown...wear a scent that you associate with one of the five basic tastes (sweet, sour, salty, umami or bitter). Triple bonus points for starting on Monday and doing all 5. Suggested by Regina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the DC Comics Wonder Woman and Cheetah salt & pepper shakers are about $18 at Amazon.
I’m doing bitter today in Azemour, and saving Eau des Merveilles for tomorrow so I don’t overwhelm my doctor at an annual checkup visit.
Ah, maybe that will be my bitter for Friday!
Great choice Robin and, of course, you smell marvellous!
I’m doing sour today in Mary Greenwell’s Cherry for its sour, erm, cherry note.
Merveilles?!
Ha. Exactly!
I have still never smelled that one! But I am sure you smell sour ???
Doing bitter in Seattle Chocolate which definitely comes across as unsweetened
And I’m in California Chocolate for the same reason! I suspect your choice is bitterer, but this is the one I have and it’s close enough.
Great minds think alike
I went with the obvious for sour – Pamplelune.
Yes, that one has to win.
Armani Prive Iris Celadon.
Excellent!
Thank you!
Those bottles are fun!
They are – super pretty and a nice weight to them.
Hermes Twilly. Love it!
The day promises to be a very ugly one at work. I really need tons of positive vibes and many deep breaths. Hope to survive!
Oh dear! Good luck with it all, and please report back in.
You have a proper British attitude perfume to help you handle any difficulties with panache!
Sending strength and good vibes to you now!
And I also like Twilly. (The new flanker didn’t work for me, though.)
Thank you!
How do you compare the original Twilly with the flanker?
Various online reviews have done a better job comparing them than I could. In fact, after reading about it, I thought it was a given I would love it. WRONG!
Unfortunately there is a particular woody note that is overwhelming to me, taking it close to scrubber territory. Immediate disgust.
I wish I could hone in on what it is. I have plenty of woody frags in my collection! But there’s something, perhaps a specific arochemical or when it’s used in too strong a concentration, that does me in. I can never tell from a notes list. So frustrating.
The new Marshall’s online store (!) wasn’t a lot more limited than I hoped, but they did have Twilly!
*was
Whaaaaaat Marshall’s has an online store now?? They can have ALL my money!
Oh! Didn’t know Marshall had an online store. I gotta check that!
Sending all of the good energy your way! Be strong, be calm.
Sending from me, too!!
Blergh… well, at least you know that by 6 or 7 or 8 pm, or whenever, your workday will be done. Remember to exhale!!
Sending concentrated good and calm vibes your way today. I hope it’s going even a little bit better than you expect. ?
Sorry you’re having such a stressful time at work. Hopefully it will he over soon!
I like Twilly, too. I’ve spritzed myself a few times in passing in stores and think it’s quite pleasant.
I thought Twilly was lovely when I tried it too. Sorry for your ugly work day pl67.☹️Sending good vibes your way!
Sending you peaceful vibes. Hope your day turned out better than what was anticipated!
Sending beachy good vibrations!
https://youtu.be/mdt0SOqPJcg
Thank you, Jalapeno! That video helped me cheer up! The nightmare is not over yet. The stress is at the highest level. Let’s see what’s going to happen tomorrow.
Ugh. C’mon Friday!
Late doing so, but sending you lots of good vibes and deep breaths. Hopefully they’ll help tomorrow!
Food- carrots- older, tougher, bitter rooty carrots… Yes Iris Silver Mist! I noticed my decant had evaporated alarmingly, so I had to over apply to use it up ! Thunk! Now, the conversation with my discretionary spending fund begins, since I obviously need to replace it. I cannot be without this sterling example of the perfumer’s art. So, another little decant? Finally spring for a bottle? Ddecisions, decisions. And in the meantime, I smell great! Once the first carrots blast fades a bit, this is a beautiful iris.
Why can’t I subscribe to the thread today? Hmm?
STC is having a sale today spend under $75 you get 15% off, spend over $75and get 20%and free shipping. Codes are September15 and September20. With that, why not get a decant.
So true! Thanks for pulling me back from the brink of fiscal irresponsibility. I am saving all my perfume pennies for my back up Mohur Extrait bottle. 🙂
I had a 3ml decant (from STC) that was evaporating pretty quickly, but I rarely reached for it. I’d say a decant is good if you’re planning to use it up quickly.
All the 3ml STC decants I bought in the spring have been evaporating too.
I figured mine were just leaky, but there could have been some evaporation, too.
There is no box to subscribe?? Anybody else?
oh, you know, it was missing when i posted that. An hour later I logged back in and I can subscribe now. It must have been a blip in my network connection or something. Sorry to bother you, I know you have lots of irons in the fire all the time.
Oh please, it is way more interesting — and fixable, probably — than any of my personal drama 🙂
Oh well, in that case, happy to help! I know what you mean about enjoying fixable problems as opposed to the other sort, I really do.
Oh you smell lovely! Glad you over-applied and hope you get your hands on more.
I’m wearing amouage imitation woman today, I guess its bitter and sweet with its mentholated black currant. But you wouldn’t want to drink it…
Flavor: sweet
David’s Breakfast from Davids tea
SOTD Guerlain Parfum Initial
Shalimar body powder more for the keeping the body parts dry in the heat today, since its fall in the morning and summer in the afternoon
Lips (also scented) Guerlain LPRN lips (They are deliberately scented to smell like La Petite Robe Noire)
My lips are scented too – with the much less glamorous Burt’s Bees vanilla bean lip balm, lol
You just made me think, my older one (who is only 4.5) has been asking for lipstick, maybe Burts Bee’s would do the trick since its scented and some of them have color..
Good idea! Burt’s Bees does have some tinted lip balms that would be fun for a little one.
That made me think back to my pre-teen years when Lipsmacker lip balm was All The Rage…
For me , back in the day, it was this clear gloss that smelled like baby powder bubble gum
Remember the lipglosses that came in the glass roll ons? So sticky-shiny. ?
I remember the roll-ons too! I never liked those – too sticky.
Chapstick has special holiday flavors out this time of year. Those would be a good choice too.
This was for Lovestosmellgood.
I’m doing bitter in Corsica Furiosa for the opening blast of tomato leaf.
You smell marvelous!
2nd that.
I woulda if I’d had any!! Good one.
SoTD is Cognoscenti’s Tomato Leather for Umami.
“Tomato Leather” sounds like a tasty foodstuff one would have in a pantry.
Going to be out and about today. Nothing with my teeth has been figured out yet but I am ok with that right now. About to wash off the Amouage Epic in the shower and put on some Coromandel. But I am looking at the STC sale when I shouldn’t be and shouldn’t be spending money frivolously.
Sorry about the dental stuff, the pain in the mouth and the wallet. Basically I hate teeth but am fond of chewing….sigh.
“Basically I hate teeth but am fond of chewing”
This has made my day! 🙂
haha!!!!
Lol. I hate skin, too (I’ve had a few small minor skin cancers removed) but I like that it covers the bones, etc.
Chanel Sycomore and Himalayan green tea
Oh, I need to pull out my Sycamore decant. You smell lovely today.
Thanks !
Which version of Sycomore?
You small great.
I am almost copying Robin by wearing Jour d’Hermes and Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate for sour.
Close enough 🙂
I’m in a definite sweet flavoured scent with MPG Fleur des Comores. This is an incredibly beautiful scent, and I’m afraid that when I pulled out my bottle, I found it had seriously evaporated since the last time I used it. There’s something wrong with the top and the stopper. Very sad! It also looks to be unavailable at most of the obvious places. It’s got floral notes and ylang-ylang and vanilla but somehow the entire blend just comes off as very buttery–almost to the point where I could try it as a salty scent, but I’ll do something else tomorrow for that. If you have not visited this one in awhile, I definitely recommend it (if you can find any).
Well, dumb me, there it is for sale right on Luckyscent, so not as elusive as I feared.
I love Fleur des Comores, you smell gorgeous.
So will you get another decant?
Not sure. I wonder if the new version is much different?
Ooooooh. The specter of reformulation.
I’m doing sweet (and interesting) in La Traversée du Bosphore. I think that will probably be the only flavour I will do this week. I don’t have a sweet tooth with respect to food, but I do love me some sweet scents.
You smell both good and interesting. Traversee and Bois Farine are L’Artisans I think of as good little weird perfumes 🙂
Yes, exactly.
Bois Farine is a little strange but I don’t find anything strange about LTdB, or am I missing something.
I get a leather covered apple in the opening that smells kind of odd before the gorgeous Turkish delight takes over later on. Might just be my nose ?♀️
I just get a gourmand iris with some added florals, violet mostly. Anyhow, it is one of my favourite Duchaufours.
Molinard Cuir for umami today.
In Mon Guerlain Intense for an unheard of 5th straight day. Holy smokes, me likey. A lot.
Tell me more about this one. I tried it last week. Thoughts? Where did you get your sample ? or do you have a FB?
I have a full bottle. Ulta in the US stocks it online. The original MG was lovely, but the lavender and smokey vanilla in it did odd things on my skin until the scent disappeared completely within a couple hours. With Intense, Guerlain has balanced the lavender so well with the jasmine, iris, vanilla and tonka that it feels to me like a perfect scent. It’s not boringly linear. It morphs. I never get the same progression twice. The patchouli is more pronounced than in the original, which makes me happy, but it’s still subtle, layered beneath that gorgeous Guerlainade of benzoin, vanilla, and tonka. The mandarin, lavender, sandalwood and patchouli counter the sweetness of the scent incredibly well. Longevity is also much better, at least on my skin, than the original MG. “Sexy” is loaded label that I don’t apply to fragrances much, but damn it fits here.
oh and house twins..
Go team Guerlain : )
You must REALLY be liking it!
Bitter – Jardin sur le Nil, opening note reads bitter to me. It’s going to be a scorcher today, so this is a good choice. But I’m starting to hanker for some cooler temp scents!
I love that one. You smell super good.
I’m in Chanel Eau de Cologne for a workout and will be in Bigarade Concentree after my shower, which is somewhat bitter at the start. Long live the run on sentence.
I’m feeling grateful today. There are several people at my gym who are rehabbing from injury or catastrophic illness. A couple have been at it for quite awhile. Rehab is hard work y’all, and I so admire their determination and grit. They don’t complain, they just do their thing.
ITA on doing physical rehabilitation. It takes a lot of mental strength to keep on keeping on.
Noncompliant today in Iris 39.
Me too – Day 3 of La Pausa…
You smell lovely!
I though about Iris 39 for its salty vibe (to me anyway) but it won’t fit the “newly acquired” category.
It’s so good!
Lovely! I don’t think you can have too many Iris fragrances?
In Violette in Love that came as a bonus in the swapmeet. Pretty but very fleeting… I’ll re-up with some other violet in my collection later today.
I’ve been moonlighting in addition to my regular work because I am enjoying writing for a totally new, to me, industry. But this AM I got an email asking if I’d do a third article this month, on grieving. Thought about it and decided I do not want to gain any expertise in grieving, even a very superficial expertise for a short article. Too much of that going around already!
Good for you. Grieving is an intimate, powerful process and there are plenty of other writers who have explored this.
When you described your son grieving for a pet, I thought that was powerful…
Day 3 of Bengale Rouge. I’m adulting once again. *le sigh*
You smell wonderful. It went onto my buy list but I’d probably be happy with a split. It’s so potent that a small quantity would last a while.
I hope your day is a good one.
Adulting stinks, but at least there’s perfume.
Hello All! Humpday!
Am in BeautryPie’s Lime, Fig leaves and Tea- not exactly a gourmand!
2) Thanks to the rain and the mild temps, my fall veggie seeds have sprouted and are taking off! The Nasturtiums are now conspiring to take over the entire back yard, and my arugula, radicchio and Japanese greens are growing faster than I can eat them! The tomatoes are ready to be pulled and put on the compost heap, along with the cucumber and pepper plants. The herbs are going to bolt in a bit, I think, so I have been making lots of green herbal pesto style sauces and storing in the freezer.
Those sauces will taste so good in the winter months! Is winter cold where you are?
It can get very cold and snowy here! Most years though it is steel grey and rainy- perfect weather for pasta and soups, which these sauces will go into.
A long time ago, when my father was still alive, he and Mom had thrown out some old tomato plants on the compost heap, at the far edge where their yard bordered a big hay field. Imagine their surprise in the following year when the compost heap boasted the biggest, best tomatoes of the entire garden!
???
We ended up with 2 tomato plants in the front borders this year via a similar mechanism 🙂
Ahh, happily wearing Aedes de Venustas for the sour rhubarb. I was reading yesterday’s comments this morning and got the idea from Eschmeling who wore it yesterday.
Nice. We’re seeing lots of rhubarb this week 🙂
I went with fresh this morning for my classes – Fragonard Verveine. But now that I’m home I’m switching to Sweet with a decant of Traversee du Bosphore thanks to my swap with Laurels.
Nice to see 2 showings of TdB.
Tommy Bahama Set Sail St Bart’s for women from the swap meet. I was only expecting a decant, but was generously sent the whole 30ml tester bottle (thanks Laurels!)!
I’d give it a salt point since it has a margarita vibe and a subtle “sand” accord that also smells a wee bit salty. There’s a vague hint of coconut in the mix, too. It’s a bit masculine and almost smells a little shaving cream-esque in the beginning, but I’m finding it pleasant and kinda fun!
I almost grabbed a couple of Tommy Bahama fragrances at the TB outlet, but I was talked out of them. I liked the ones I sampled!
Which did you sample? Curious about St Kitts- purdy purple bottle
May have been the Martinique-maybe they had the purple bottle. Poor memory, but they all smelled so pretty.. I do have the pink “for her” bottle. That one is fruity floral.
Twin with Robin in generously applied Hermes eau de Merveilles. If I just knew how to pronounce this correctly! ?
Et voila:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjXC6fq3ZGg
Ha! Merci!!!
Musc Ravageurrrrr?
Which is possibly its own taste category!
Doing sour with Cristalle Eau Verte today.
You smell great!
A slightly savoury perfume for me today, Thierry Mugler’s Chyprissime.
I always carry the bottle so that I can refresh my perfume at lunchtime, but this bottle is so heavy! With the packaging, it added nearly a kilo to my suitcase when I brought it back from my holiday.
LOL. I think the biggest bottle I’ve brought with me on vacation is 30mLs. That said, I love the Les Exceptions bottle since it is so easy to split / decant.
Doing my tandem CP by wearing a new acquisition (from the past six weeks) and identifying the taste(s).
SOTD = Serge Lutens Fumerie Turque (vintage)
I got a partial bottle and whoa, it’s a gorgeous, if slightly animalic, honeyed tobacco, patch, leather, tonka number, an edgier (rougher) version of Chergui and equally wonderful!

Due to train issues, I ended up working from home today…not complaining of course as I was able to go out at lunch to address something that I would have had to use up part of Saturday morning to do.
Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts and methods on wardrobe management. At the end of the day, the stark sobering reality boils down to what I should have left when it’s time for someone to tie up my affairs. My siblings and I have done that for dad and mom and pretty much no clothing or footwear got left behind as a hand me down. In a way, we’re lucky that we did not have to empty a house but the bad news is there’s still a lot of leftover stuff.
Ack, let’s see…I would put Fumerie Turque in the umami taste category. It is by no means a gourmand and it does not evoke any combination of sweet sour bitter salty
What was the conversation about wardrobe management? Right now I have exactly what works for me. Everything is black and everything has been paired down and I have the bare minimum. Some of you have seen pictures of my closet so you know what I am talking about. I could literally dress myself in the dark in the morning and everything would match 🙂
Well hello there stranger! I was lamenting that I need to do a drastic pare down of clothes and I just couldn’t let go. I asked for recommendations of questions to ask oneself that can help decide on keep vs give away. I admire your all black outfits that work well together; however, it is not the minimalistic lifestyle I’m going for (yet). I have been using plastic tubs to hold the giveaway pile and I then include the tub when I drop off the clothes. Tubs attract stuff and I will keep only the bare minimum.
Anyone know of a cherry shampoo? Not cherry almond, not cherry blossom but just cherry? Not chocolate covered cherry either lol. I love cherry and I just don’t find it enough in scents/products in general. Lush should have like a Cherry Rose Jam type shower gel…mmm. Lol.
Interesting, and 2nd the cherry rose jam!
No idea what taste sensation under which Cap Neroli would fall. Does the parsley note fit into umami? Or is there bitterness?
Not good at this.
Heading out to see George Thorogood tonight. Should be fun.
Parsley would be “bitter” in my book. Enjoy your concert!
Bad to the bone! Yay!
I agree with Jalapeño, bitter!
Not really feeling any better today, but at least I am not feeling any worse. ?
SOTD = back in Pulp. A little bit of this goes a LONG way.
I hope you will soon start feeling better!
Thank you austenfan! Right now I am settling for not feeling any worse. Hopefully this crud will be gone in about a week.
Feel better soon jalapeno!
Thanks Petunia! The echinacea tea isn’t going back into storage any time soon. I think it might be helping.
Plus, it is comforting.
Slow and steady…glad you’re not worse!
Yeah, me too! If it stays like this, I won’t complain too much (I hope).
Hope you start feeling better quickly. Lots of people at work are sick this week, ugh! It seems that when the kids go back to school, the parents get it as well.
I don’t have children myself, but yeah, kids are little germ factories. I agree that once something is going around the school, the parents get it too. Not to be mean, but that’s how it goes.
Definitely something going around right now. One of my friends had a scratchy throat over the weekend. ?
I hope it clears up soon.
Thanks neyronrose! So far, it’s been annoying more than anything else. Getting sick was NOT on my “To Do” list. ?
Glad to hear you’re not worse.
Crossing my fingers that it stays that way! ?
Feel better! Good dose of Vitamin C in Pulp ?
Thanks Elisa P! I hope this crud isn’t up by you.
St Clair Scents Eve on one wrist and Pandora on the other…they are both so complex with so many notes that I might actually be doing all five for the CP…oh YES I LOVE them both and a very little goes a very long way even on my scent devouring skin..one tiny spray is all I need.
I just got my package, along with 2 travel sprays (Gardener’s Glove and First Cut). I will put up pictures on Insta at some point …
It seemed as if every shelter animal was covered in fleas this morning, so I’ve washed my clothes and taken a shower. I’m wearing Aedes de Venustas, because it’s my “backbone” scent and I need some. Got a call last night from houseguests who were supposed to arrive Friday night that they will be here this afternoon. Running around like mad now.
Oh no, do you work at a shelter? I used to volunteer at a no-kill shelter here in Houston. They put out a desperate call today for fosters as they have taken in so many animals from the flooding that Imelda caused in East Texas. I’m thinking of taking in some foster kittens. I’ve fostered kittens before and loved it.
You’re a much better person than me. Early arrivals (2 days!) will be guests at a hotel at their own expense. The only exceptions would have been the ‘rents and the grands.
A little sour and a little bitter in Concentre d’Orange Verte. I love this one in summer.
Welp, I have good news and bad news. The good news is we have a house and are under contract! Woo hoo! The bad news is that I broke my toe this afternoon. Ugh. First trip to the ER here. They’re taping it to stabilize it and I have to see a podiatrist next week because it’s cocked to the side pretty bad and they may want to put a pin in it to straighten it. Boo!!!!!
Oh no! Sorry to hear about your toe. I hope it heals quickly!
Great on the house! Oh dear on the toe? Which toe is it? I’ve broken toes before but I guess it was never that bad because they never re-set them. I’m sorry you have to deal with this at such a hectic time.
The little toe on my left foot. It’s completely sideways, pointed out away from my other toes. ?
Yikes! Good luck, that sounds awful.
Ow! on the toe! Sounds horrible!
Congratulations on finding a house. ?
Oh no poor you! So sorry that happened. I hope you aren’t in any pain. I hope having a house under contract makes you feel a little better.
I’m amazed how much it does hurt actually. That whole side of my foot is throbbing so bad! But yes, knowing we have a house makes everything better lol!
Ouch! Hope a podiatrist can help. Did the doctors suggest you use ice?
Use they suggested to elevate it and ice it for the pain and swelling.
Ouch ouch ouch! Wishing you the best on getting your toe fixed!
Sorry about your toe; omg, something you did not need! But good news on your house, that is so exciting!
Oof, so sorry! How’d you do that?
I have a mildly deformed little toe from a decades old break. I hope you get some pain relief. Congrats on the house, though!
Oh yay, and oh no!! That hurts.
Scent of the evening: SL Un Bois Vanille, which I’ve been wearing a lot.
I don’t know if I’ll hit the bitter category this week — oakmoss seems to be one of those things I’m not into. Perhaps myrrh would fit as being bitter? I like a lot of sorts of incense, after all.
Good luck finding a “bitter” scent that you like!
