I am at the beach, and wearing my trusty old Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess body cream as a force field against the arrival of Fall. It is a fierce battle at the moment — the sky is gray, the wind is gusting and the waves are whipping — but I expect that by tomorrow, Bronze Goddess will have won.
Reminder: on 9/20, wear a fragrance by Laboratorio Olfattivo, Lubin, La Via del Profumo, Les Parfums de Rosine or Liquides Imaginaires, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter L.

Heading out to work in a single spritz of Mitsouko EDT, the most ferocious of the line. The honeyed oakmoss can’t conceal the fact that it’s all savage teeth and talons, and I am fearless.

You’re absolutely right: the perfume is soft and rounded and sculptural, and you can hardly imagine my disappointment when I smelled it — I was expecting the ferocity of the EDT but in a more sophisticated setting, and it isn’t that at all. Even the EDP was kind of…blunted? Smudged? I love Mitsouko but only in the EDT, and I guess that’s enough.

It is gorgeous and sunny out this morning which is exactly what my psyche is in need of.
Tomorrow is madtownteen’s golden birthday. 14 presents for her. My older kids were born on the 7th and 10th, so it is ironic that each child has gotten more presents than the last. This afternoon will be wrapping and baking. Banana cake with chocolate frosting is her standard request.

We are having a ringing-in climate change hot spell as well. Yesterday afternoon turned into a furnace, and today the highs in my neighborhood are in the mid-low 90s–which is really hot for us. No one has air-conditioning, and my usual cool down the house method of opening all the doors and windows stops being effective over 84 degrees. I’m spending the afternoon at Children’s Hospital, which is well air-conditioned, with my son for a three-hour oncology clinic (all routine stuff, he’s still in remission, all is well!!!—except now that I am on this topic, to mention that his neuro-oncologist who has treated him for 10 years and two months, is leaving California and so this will be the last time we see him–a bittersweet milestone that is per my usual totally off-topic!).

I got a “doorstop”-sized tester bottle of 4711 Mandarine & Cardamom cologne from a package that arrived from FragranceNet this morning. I sprayed some of that on my arms, and apparently it had a fierce force field effect on Mom. I couldn’t really smell the body spray, but the cologne is considerably stronger. I thought it was a nice citrus and spicy fragrance.
I still like the Breath of God idea, though. Sometime today when I’m not in the same house as Mom, I’ll try that.

I celebrated National Chocolate Day, though. Chocolate protein drink (mostly tasted like whey), a chocolate pudding cup, and a bar of Hershey’s Dark Chocolate.
I put on a new-to-me scent at bedtime — Guerlain’s Cologne Imperiale. Nancyleandros had sent me a bunch of samples to try. Like Jicky, the cologne also struck me as having an old-fashioned aspect, but not unpleasantly so. I’ll have to try it again when I’m more awake.

I found the tiny sample of Bucoliques de Provence I thought I had lost, so I now have to come up with a force field interpretation for this very friendly lavender – if you’re a Lord of the Rings person, this could be the scent of Tom Bombadil. Found it in my local market and gave it a try. It’s better than the usual market brands. Dark chocolate and chips of honey comb. It’s not overly sweet and has a different texture due to the honey comb. It’s very good.

So today my ‘FFF of the SOTD for week’s CP’. (feel like this could be a rap ?) is Ormonde Elixir from a small sample dabber. So far it resembles OJWoman more so than OJMan, and I do detect the new Oud but feel like the hemlock and floral notes are still forward enough to make it just a more powerful version of Woman (some of the reviews I read couldn’t pinpoint which of the 2 fragrances it favored). We’ll see.
Now for some dark chocolate!!!

Your positive vibes worked, and he says I do not have to undergo more surgery, and with the continuation of one of the drugs for a complete year as well as a course of radiation, I will have an excellent chance of recovery with no recurrences. I feel a lot lighter, believe me. I’m wearing Stash body oil on a cold and rainy day and baking a celebration cake.

My bid for protection against the end of summer is DSH’s “lighter” carnation, Fleuriste. Lovely flowery carnation which smells stronger on my arm now than it did at 6:00 am when I first applied it, although i don’t believe it has much sillage. Very nice. I got a coffret of Carnation scents from DSH, and this one is my favorite after a group testing, but I will wear each of them by themselves at least one day to make sure.
I went through a travel size of Flueriste last summer. Lovely stuff. You smell great in peppery carnation and meadow florals.

I really like Fleuriste too, so I think you smell really good. I think I got decent longevity but it wears close to the skin.
Friday the 13th juju arrived with severe middle-of-the-night thunderstorms that kept me awake worrying about possible basement flooding (which, fortunately, did not occur) and left me unsettled and tired this morning.
Consequently, not liking the word ‘fierce,’ I’ve opted instead for the peace and calm strength of ginger, patchouli, and soft incense in the guise of Pacifica Tibetan Mountain Temple Incense to shield me today. Layered over ‘comfort’ and ‘energy’ body lotions and a spritz of patchouli essential oil mist – and fortified with my personal mantra – I doubt that any further bad juju can penetrate my zen!
Hoping that a music-filled weekend will end what has been a disappointing staycation on a more satisfying note. Guitar fest at our local community college brings in guitar professionals from around the country for 2 days of workshops for Mr. Laila and 2 nights of concerts for both of us. Then on Sunday I’m really looking forward to seeing my favorite cellist and Beethoven in concert!

I o.d.ed with lavender today in AA Lavande Velours (wish I’d gotten this when it was still around and cheap) and a misting of ELDO Antiheros, all over some lavender lotion. One can never have enough calm! Glad it’s Friday.

Last night I went a little kitten in the catnip with my newly arrived decants and samples, and went to bed saturated in neroli, amber, and incense that you could probably smell across the street. So post shower this morning I opted for the palate cleansing Rahele–a complicated but discreet rose and citrus sweetened tea on me (there is no tea in the notes–but whatevah!).

I am 2 chapters away from finishing Renaults book, The last of the wine. I am enjoying the history aspect of the book, however the relationship between Alexias and Lysis is very frustrating to me. I wonder what Renault is trying to convey to the reader in regards to this hot and cold. Whereas I expected Lysis to be more mature he acts in a way that is very nonchalant towards poor young Alexias. In my mind I broke up with Lysis in almost every chapter! HA!

My Fierce Force Shield Fragrance for last several years has been L’Heure Fougueuse IV by Cartier. I really don’t know how that happened, since I usually wear all natural perfumes and tend to spray in La Via del Profumo Holy Water when I need some support, but somehow I reached for L’H IV on one testy occasion and now it’s THE shielding charm, and it has never failed to protect me against evil forces and all kinds of bad juju.
Wearing the potent and delicious Or du Sérail today. It hasn’t worked to ward off bad juju though, my puppy girl got stung by a wasp on our walk this morning. She is resting now, poor baby. But she’s a tough cookie, she’ll be okay.
Oh, no! Poor little pup. We have dozens of bees out back, of many varieties: honey, bumble, and then what the hubs calls “a@#holes with wings”, lol (wasps included). My cat loooves to go after them if I’m not watching-amazed he hasn’t been stung yet.

In other news, not sure if I shared that I am appealing the denial of insurance for my mom’s stay at sub-acute rehab beyond the first three weeks? 2 levels of appeal were denied way prior to mom’s passing. This 3rd appeal is now at the federal level and I have a court date (October 9) and I will be participating via phone. Not much time to prepare but I am intimately familiar with the facts and need to review the entire case file and I just KNOW that I will find documents that were withheld from me and this is what I will emphasize – failure to follow procedure and a violation of my mom’s right to information that I hope will cause the ruling to be in our favor. Wish me luck!

Didn’t really do the CP today but maybe I should have because my morning at work was stressful and the whole day was quite busy. I decided to wear another evaporating decant, Papillon Angelique. I don’t like it nearly as much as most of the others in the line, but I will probably still use it up. Tonight I switched to Tonka Imperiale. I’ve been choosing this one a lot when I don’t have anything else in mind or when I need something easy and comforting. It’s really helping at the end of a long week.
Also, I can’t believe how many posts there were today! It was fun to catch up on reading them tonight.
Oh that’s too bad about Angelique! I hope this weekend makes the stress evaporate!
