Almost-Friday plus National Day of Encouragement. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a stress-free zone (we'll see how that turns out) with Aedes de Venustas Copal Azur.
Reminder: On 9/13, protect yourself from bad (Friday the 13th) juju with a Fierce Force Field Fragrance. Adapted from a suggestion by chocolatemarzipan.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I could do with protection from bad. Tomorrow will be the two-week mark for my father’s stay in the hospital. Things don’t look good. I’m still working from his hospital room/my parents’ house because if I stop working, then I’ll have to feel more feelings. So thank goodness for work. I’ve convinced my mother to let us take shifts at the hospital (I hang out with him all morning, then leave during quiet hours, and she comes here every afternoon), and spending less time at the hospital has been extremely good for both of us.
I started wearing perfume to the hospital a few days ago. I was Robin’s twin a day removed in that I wore Copal Azur yesterday, and today I’m wearing what I think is my favorite scent of all, Camel. Perfumes help with my mood now, but I wonder if I am tying my favorites to sad memories and if that will affect how I feel about these scents in the future.
Well, that’s enough bringing down the mood of the SOTD post. I wish this on no one and hope you’re all doing well.
I’m sorry to hear things aren’t going well. Hopefully your perfumes are lifting you up a bit. Taking some time away from the hospital is good too. You can only handle so much. Sending you lots or strength and comfort vibes.
Perfume always helps!
Hugs!
Sorry, Koyel. It sounds like you’re taking good care of your father. Sending good vibes to you and your fam ♥️
Koyel, I’m so sorry you and your family have to deal with this whole situation. Getting some respite through taking shifts is a good plan. It’s been my experience that perfumes I’ve worn through times of extreme stress and/or loss become more special in the aftermath because I recall that they were a comfort during a difficult time. Take care of yourself.
I’m sorry to hear this about your dad, Koyel. I was worried when we didn’t hear from you for awhile and hoped the news would be better.
Sending many hugs and prayers your way, dear.
Sending healing and calm your father’s way.
I’m so sorry you and your family are going through this, Koyel. Sending good thoughts. I agree with ringthing about perfumes you wear during times of stress becoming more special in the aftermath.
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I’m very sorry, Koyel.
Sending hugs for you and wishing the best for your father. Do whatever you need to get you through.
Sending hugs as well.
Also: There is the sadness of your dad illness, but also the love of being with him. So please wear your faves to improve and bolster your mood.
I’m so sorry, Koyel.
I’m glad that you and your mom are taking shifts, and I hope you’re both taking care of yourselves in every way possible. Please be gentle with yourself, ask for help when you need to, and find comfort where you can. I have always appreciated being able to take a moment in the hospital chapel or meditation room to have some quiet time, so perhaps that will help you as well. You and your loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care.
Love to you and your family, Koyel. I’m with ringthing, I say take the comfort where you can.
So sorry to hear this sad news, Koyel. Sending hugs!
I too am so sorry to hear about this. I know how tough it is to have a beloved family member in the hospital unwell. It’s definitely a good idea to take some breaks. Best wishes.
Koyel,
I hadn’t seen this before – so sorry to hear about your father (I haven’t been able to read through the daily posts as often lately). What a stressful time for all of you. I say wear the perfume if it offers some comfort and strength. It has helped me through some difficult times. Thinking of you!!
Thinking of you. Sending peace and hugs.
Sorry to hear about you’re Dad koyel, I’m so glad perfume is comforting u during this emotionally difficult time.
I think it’s great you convinced your mom that you can share some of the load with her and you both benefit – and your dad as well. I’m rooting for him!
Sorry for you Koyel, I think you are very wise to sit with your father in turn. This way you can really support him when you are there. I admire you for doing this. And perfume always helps.
So sorry, Koyel, thinking of you at what must be such a difficult time.
Koyel, adding my good thoughts and wishes for your father’s health and for you and your mom to take care of yourselves and each other. Thinking of you.
I’m so sorry for the stressful time and worry for your father. My best wishes for improvement. Sounds like you are doing all the right things as best you can for you, dad and mom. Wear scents with abandon! May it being pleasure to your dad also.
I am glad you are getting time to spend with your father. Treasure the good moments and associate your perfume with them. Sending love.
The most important thing is to be there, nothing else matters! Be strong!
I’m so sorry Koyel! Hope things improve for your dad, and also that you and your mom take care of each other as well….
I’m sorry to hear about your father, it’s lovely you’re able to spend so much time with him, but that’s also very hard.
You are all so wonderful. Thank you as always for being such a strong and beautiful (and beautifully scented) community <3
I’m sorry your father is still having such a rough time, Koyel. It is definitely a blessing to be able to spend so much time with him. You won’t regret it.
No no Koyel they will provide comfort for you later on.
I am so sorry to hear of your situation, and feel for you ( I was in your shoes a few years back)
I am sending you strength, comfort, good deep sleep and clarity for what lies ahead.
Blessings to you Dad and your family, and peace for your father.
I’m sorry you went through this <3 and thank you.
Many years ago, I was in your situation, but unfortunately, I was in college about 6 hours away and couldn’t visit the hospital except on weekends. As others have said, the important thing is to be there. Wishing your family all the best.
That must’ve been terribly hard <3 I'm sorry to hear you went through that. I've thought about going back to CA and I don't see how I could have any peace of mind that far away. I'm just lucky my workplace is being so flexible.
So sorry to hear this, Koyel
Wishing all the best that is possible to you, your dad, and your family.
So sorry to hear about your dad’s current status. Whether he’s awake or asleep, he knows you and or you mom are there and feel the love. Sending hugs and much love. ❤️
So sorry to hear this Koyel. Sending healing wishes. Hugs.
So sorry to hear about your father. Hope your perfumes are lending you calm and comfort.
Wear your perfumes, dear. And sing to your father. You won’t regret either.
I’m so sorry, Koyel. You are exactly where you need to be right now. Sending you hugs.
Very late getting to the poll today, but adding to the good wishes Koyel. So sorry things aren’t going better for your Dad but so wonderful that you are able to be there.
I’m very sorry to hear this. You are doing a great job. It is very tough I know. You and your family are in my prayers. A great big hug to you.
all the fun plans I had today got cancelled. There is something in the air (or maybe just this humidity) My friend whom I was planning to meet for dinner canceled early this morning, then I had coffee plans with another girl friend and she cancelled. Now I am free until I pick up the kids. I have time to read and I made a nice matcha latte.
Keeping with the CP I am in Nuxe Relaxing Fragrant water. I smell like coconut and vanilla and something floral..
You smell lovely!
Well drat! My day did not go as planned either, but I finally made it to the beach so I will not complain. Hope you are reading something fun!
Wore Smudge to bed last night, continuing the smoky/woody theme today with Bois d’Ascèse. It’s a sunny, cool fall day. Perfect perfume weather.
I don’t even know what Smudge is. I probably need some?
I remember when I knew *all* the fragrances in the SOTD but those days are long gone…
It’s from Heretic perfumes.
Thank you!
I’m wearing a sample of Bohemian Rhapsody from Art Meets Art. I got a discovery set for $9.00 and free shipping. This is the first one I grabbed from the bag. On my skin it is presenting as a fruity floral. Pretty,
For some reason Bohemian Rhapsody as a fruity floral is just making me laugh!
SOTD is DSH Chinchilla.
Apparently, I’m super sketchy because the police came knocking on my door last night. Someone at the facility called the police because “of a suspicious vehicle stalking around the parking lot.” ?? Police were super nice and doggo was thrilled to jump out and wag all over them. Then we had a discussion about “What kind of dog is that?” Security was called, they confirmed it was fine for me to overnight in the lot, so we all said “good night,” and I went back to bed.
Love today’s photo. Smell well, y’all
Glad to know you’re not a dangerous character, Deva 😉 you certainly smell wonderful.
Someone who smells as good as you can’t be sketchy..
?
Dang, Deva… I hope this is going in your travel adventures book.
I guess it’s a good thing that the police are watching but who needs that kind of drama when you’re trying to relax?
Helps to be a nurse. The police have a soft spot for nurses.
Ha! my newly nursing daughter told me this too 🙂
Put it in your book Deva! Glad all ended well.
Oh Deva, this is just hysterical.
I hope this means the police will keep an eye out for you!
Started out the day in Aqua de Colonia Concentrada. May add something else later. I’m taking a friend to dinner tonight (tacos!) to celebrate her new promotion. All day I’ll be dreaming of tacos…
Enjoy those tacos, yum!
Mmmm taco’s ??
If there is a good taco to be had, PLEASE tell me where this is!!!
We went to Tacologist in University Circle. Overall, it was good enough, but not spectacular. I like Barrio’s tacos better.
Now I will dream of tacos too…actually have been dreaming of tacos since watching Taco Chronicles on Netflix.
Ahah! I have a new theme, CP, we could do at some point. “I have always depended on the kindness of strangers: perfumes you’ve been sent by folks at NST or other perfumistas or been given as GWP or free samples, etc.”
Anyway, that is my theme this morning as I gaze on the bounty of samples on my desk. I’ve begun the morning in a perfume oil created by our in-house nose CM8 that is an orange creamsicle concoction. My plan is to move on to Tiziana Terenzi’s Cassiopea from Pixel once the frozen treat scent is gone. So far, the juicy citrus edge has faded and I’m in a warm sweet skin scent.
Questions for all you wordsmiths out there. I was trying to remember a word for frozen treats that I’d see written on ice cream trucks and carts in New York when I was a girl. It was a long word, at least to my seven year old self, and seemed a very sophisticated way to say ice cream sandwiches and rocket popsicles. It may have started with the letter “b” or had a “b” in the word? But I could be wrong about that. Any ideas?
That’s a great idea for a CP. I’ve got nuthin about the ice cream treats, maybe it was a NY thing?
+1
I’m thinkin, I’m thinkin….?
That would be a great CP, I have soooo many samples laying around I haven’t even tested yet!
Good idea for a community project. Most of my samples have come from generous perfumistas. I could participate for months!
http://mentalfloss.com/article/52281/brief-history-ice-cream-truck
A Reckless Rainbow?
I have no idea. We have Mr Whippy and Frosty Boy “often licked never beaten’…something like that.
Bomb pop? That’s what we call ’em here….
Love that CP theme! I have been given so much lovely stuff over the years.
and I have been the ever grateful recipient of SO MUCH lovely stuff from you , my friend xoxo
I love your theme and I love that you are enjoying “Lisa” (which I made for a coworker who now only wears my essential oil blends as perfume-LOL!)
and let us know what Cassiopea smells like because I love the name!
Frozen novelties?
That’s a great idea for a CP. I’d have tons of stuff to wear – nearly most of my collection, probably. Almost everything I’ve got I was originally introduced to by one of you lovely ladies. (I do realize there are men here, but I’ve never actually done a swap or split or freebie with one of the guys.)
It is like frozen novelties, but I would have known the words frozen novelties … it was something else, three or four syllables–but interesting that I have combed synonym lists and haven’t seen it yet, so am thinking I may not have the correct meaning… even now all these years later. This. Is. Driving. Me. Crazy. (And you say, just this?! 🙂 )
Good Morning, I am wearing the remainder of my sample of Sunday by Arielle Shoshana.
There is a nice citrus in the opening and a soft tea note. This one lasted a good while on me and I need to study what the dry down contains. It is really well behaved and I can see this being something that many would enjoy, including the younger crowd, my nieces, daughter’s friends etc.
Did they send this out already? I participated in the kickstarter, but haven’t received mine.
I think I saw yesterday that AngelaB got hers at a store event and that the ones for Kickstarters are coming in Oct. I don’t have mine yet either.
Oh, good, thanks. I was expecting it to be October originally. Exciting!
Nope not yet, she had a small sample at the store. They are about to roll it out You haven’t missed a thing!!
Yay – thanks!
Wearing Donna Karan Cashmere Mist today for attending a memorial service for a dear friend this afternoon – an elderly friend who was very ill for a long time, so not a really sad event but there will be lots of people and CM is good in a crowd. Still hot today, c’mon fall!
Sorry to hear about friend.
I have not worn Cashmere Mist in a long time. Need to bring it to the front of my cabinet and give it some use. Thanks for the reminder.
Sorry for your loss <3
I’m sorry about your friend, ringthing.
Sometimes it’s a relief. Sorry for your loss, ringthing.
My sympathies on your friend.
ALERT for those in the DC area: The Queens of Egypt exhibit at the National Geographic Museum, which was scheduled to end earlier this month, has been extended to September 15.
I read about it originally in a perfume context, as one component of the exhibit is about the excavation of a site believed to have produced Mendesian, a perfume worn by Cleopatra, among others. The exhibit includes sniffable samples of ingredients used in those times, including calamus, myrrh, henna, cardamom, blue lotus, and a perfume composition based on an ancient recipe.
The henna was amazing, but it’s driving me crazy because I’ve smelled it in a perfume that I’ve tested before and can’t begin to remember what it was. The blue lotus faint but beguiling.
Here’s the exhibit website:

Here’s the March 2019 Washington Post review (with the old closing date):

The docent-led tour was excellent, too.
PS: I was at Neiman Marcus yesterday, and they were setting up the Christmas decorations section!?! ?
wow
?
It’s still technically Summer and more than 3 months away!!! Like last year I plan to boycott any store that doesn’t wait until at least November.
Love,
The Grinch
I agree! I love that Nordstrom waits until the day after Thanksgiving.
Costco has Christmas stuff out too. Ugh.
Ugh indeed! I tend to decorate with seasonal plants, greenery and candles or I diffuse essential oils like spruce. tangerine or clove. At least it’s all compost when the holidays are over!
What?????
The Dollar Store has Christmas decorations, too!
A friend messaged me saying that Lowe’s has their Christmas stuff out too. Bleah. Too soon!
I mostly notice every year that the Advent calendars come out earlier and earlier…they’ve been announcing them for at least 3 weeks now.
Thanks for the link. What a fascinating exhibition.
Yes, WOW! This sounds amazing. Thank you very much!
Found a sample of Light Blue while digging around in the sample bowl yesterday, so that’s what I’m wearing today. It’s good stuff in this heat and humidity, although I’m not a huge fan of it in general.
Feeling draggy today because I stayed up too late last night reading a whodunit. Yeah, I know better, but….
Light Blue is so much dislike by many people, however I still enjoy wearing it from time to time.
Agreed. I don’t need to own it but I enjoy a spritz at Sephora once in awhile.
I have a full bottle that I purchased thousand of years ago and that will last for the rest of my life and beyond. ?
IKR , they are like the Nickelback of perfumes.
Hahahaha! That’ll keep me laughing for the rest of the evening! Sounds like a good idea for a CP… To my senses Pomegranate Noir is like the Kate Bush of Perfume.
I still love Light Blue 🙂
Which whodunit??
Chanel No. 22 for me today, along with a cup of green tea.
Green tea twins (I am drinking matcha)
Lovely!
You smell sophisticated ‘what a beauty!
Timbuktu today, just in time to celebrate its inclusion in the new edition of the Michael Edwards book, it seems!
You smell great. 🙂
Yes…wasn’t that a thrill?
More than deserving, that’s for sure.
Safran Troublant insisted on being worn today. Who am I to argue? It’s sort of perfect for this damp, cold and humid day.
You can never reject a Safran Troublant call! ?. You smell great!
?
It sounds like I will have your weather tomorrow. I might have to reconsider what perfume will fit.
Hello all!
1) Am keeping up good vibes in Ambrette 9, a faint slip of a skin scent, but very, very pretty. This was a vial made for me at Nordstrom’s. I believe I have the dupe of this from BeautyPie.
2) Have planted the fall garden! It’s all greens: collards, chrysanthemums, mustard greens, tatsoi, mung beans, snow peas, arugula, mizuna. I am gonna plant garlic later on for the spring harvest. I am thinking of tulips.
The nasturiums are still going strong- the flowers are as happy as ever but now I am getting seed pods. The tomatoes are of course coming on strong- about a pints worth every few days. My fennel has bolted, so I am thinking maybe another sowing of fennel. The parsley, oregano and thyme are very happy. The rosemary suddenly died and I have no clue! The shiso, sage, mints and burnet are very happy indeed.
My tomatoes have taken over the entire garden – whoa! I think I still have a bit of parsley and rosemary peeking out somewhere. Great idea to plant some greens – I may follow your lead. (I’m in Seattle.)
Oh yes, the tomatoes at this point have broken free of their stakes and claimed that corner of the garden! They are vines and don’t care!
I have loads and loads of parsley- and I had parsley even through the winter last year AND my parsley from last year flowered and seeded, so I will have parsley FOREVER. So parsley pesto and tabbouleh forever!
Oh greens would do so well in Seattle area- mild wet winters would be perfect for the greens I listed above, if not do better than where I am.
Your garden sounds wonderful. My gardening style has been relegated to survival of the fittest I’m afraid… whatever survives, stays… but that is weird about your rosemary. If you figure out what happened, let me know! I rely on rosemary to survive every weather and animal assault that comes its way… This year’s lackadaisical gardening relied heavily on mulch. I think that may be all I managed to “plant” in 2019. 🙁
See, I thought rosemary was very hardy- but my plant yellowed up and just died, poor thing!
The garden has been so fun and this year the summer has been relatively mild, so herbs and greens grew really well!
My rosemary also suddenly died about a year ago after many great, bushy years, I replanted a new one not in exactly the same spot but nearby and it’s not really doing super well. Like others, I thought rosemary was indestructible!
I am tempted to keep the plant in a pot!
My herbs in pots just never do quite as well.
+1
I LOVE Ambrette 9
Hi everyone!
Sotd is Feu secret
I am back from 2-week holiday, tried to stay offline as much as possible but it was hard, still had to communicate with my siblings about upcoming family feast. And sometimes you just want to read news and watch cat pics online ?
We stayed in a very cosy house in the Jura for one week, and on our way there we stayed one night in Chalons-en-Champagne, and one night in Dijon (it was our second visit).
We also visited the famous Vézelay church. It was covered partly because of restoration. BUT upside: because of that, inhad the chance to see the tympan up close, on top of the scaffolding. It was magnifique!
Jura is amazing region, and I recommend it if you like hiking and quiet.
When the weather got cold and rainy we went southwards to the Ardeche.
We stayed in a brilliant Airbnb there, top floor in a 8th century old castle.
And I made a 2 hour tour on horseback there, it was all glorious. yes I can ride but I dont ride that often anymore, so my muscles were terribly sore the day after. Ouch
We traveled back north this week by way of Beaune and Fontainebleau.
Its all beautiful.
Maybe I’ll put some pics on my insta later on.
Hope you guys are okay!!! I dont think I’ll have time to read back on everything. Big party this saturday. We will be celebrating my parents 50 years of marriage! ?
Gosh I made quite some grammar and spelling mistakes there.
Sorry, i blame my lazy-holiday-minded-brain. I am also thinking partly in french ???
At least you have an excuse..
I make grammar mistakes all the time!
Sounds like a great trip!
Your trip sounds fantastic! Congrats to your parents on their 50 years anniversary! ??
Thank you!
Wonderful. I have been to that church, and it truly is amazing!
Its a beauty! When I studied art history i wrote a short paper about this tympanum, so I just HAD to see it in real life (even though my studying years are almost 2 decades ago haha)
Your trip sounds fabulous!
You smell wonderful, Jiji! I am ever respectful of those who can speak more than one language, so the grammarian in me is standing down quietly. 🙂 And your trip sounds amazing!
I don’t speak French fluently, but I can manage the basics. (In the Netherlands, french is mandatory for at least a few years in ‘high school’).
But I sometimes have a hard time understanding French people because they talk quite quickly.
Also, its a language I dont read/hear everyday. Unlike English (its everywhere in my daily life…netflix, amazon, i read american and British newspapers, and then you have YouTube, twitter, this website…., Books, graphic novels etc etc)
Luckily most French people nowadays can and will switch to English if you struggle. (Back in the 80s that was not common at all….its really remarkable how it has changed)
Reading is much easier for me though…..i can handle most road signs, news papers, museum brochures, even some books are do-able without a dictionary, and….most important of all: restaurant menus ?
Oh I am so envious. I love those medieval tympanums. Because they were designed to be pondered and understood by a population that was largely illiterate, once you get the save and the damned sorted, you are on your way. Your trip sounds like so much fun!
Yes, medieval tympanums are awesome!
Stained glass windows often tell
elaborate stories as well, only downside, i get a stiff neck looking upwards all the time 😉 haha
That vacation sounds glorious.
we will go to burgundy/Auxerres at the end of September. hope we will have good weather. i saw photos of the Jura , it looked really beautiful. Maybe next year…
September is usually a great time to visit France although rain happens a little more often than it does in July/August. There is a stunning abbey near to Auxerre called Pontigny. Very much worth a visit.
Enjoy! forecast for next weeks for most of France was looking good ?
I’m currently in France myself, Ile-de-France now, and Haute-Savoie starting from Saturday onwards. I made my first real visit to the Jura last year. It’s a nice area, and great for hiking and CHEESE. Did you visit any Fruitières while you were there? I was in a gîte quite close to Lons-le-Saunier, sort of in between the Jura and the Bourgogne. Where did you stay? Did you visit the lovely salt mines at all?
I was actually pretty close to salt mines, a 15 minute drive from Salins-les-Bains. But we were so busy enjoying hikes and also a visit to Besançon (i needed new hiking shoes), we never came to visit them.
We stayed in a tiny village (more of a hamlet) in a small house. It was adjacent to the main house where the owners lived with their two cats and two horses. The buildings were surrounded by acres and acres of meadows and pastures. So peaceful!
To be honest, I am not a big cheese lover, but the comté cheese combined with the ‘vin jaune’ was a huge treat…yum.
I adore cheese in all shapes and sizes so I did a lot of cheese sampling while I was there. I visited the Saline Royale at Arc-et-Senans. I was especially interested as I grew up in a part of the Netherlands where a similar process of salt mining is still happening. My one regret about my visit to the Jura is not getting any vin jaune.
I went there. What a great place. Plus I had vin jaune!!!
..and of course: enjoy your stay in La douce France. Haute-Savoie is gorgeous!
We drove though a few years ago on our way from Grasse to Geneva (where we did a tour at CERN) and I really want to go back one day and hike there!
Your holiday fills me with longing. I lived in the Jura and miss it…it was so beautiful, especially in autumn and winter.
Oh that must have been a great experience. Our host had a picture of their farm in wintertime on display…. breathtaking!
Was it you who told the story of riding home from a concert/opera at night on a motorbike through the Jura? I loved that story.
That sounds amazing!
Congrats on the 50th anniversary of your parents!
Mine just celebrated their 61st which is pretty amazing to me 🙂
61st!!!!! ??
Welcome back from your amazing trip! And congratulations to your parents on their 50th anniversary! That’s a big deal in my book.
I got most of my clothes and perfume into my room. I don’t have it all in my room and none of it is organized but it’s in my room and I have access to most of my collection and that makes me happy. I think I will wear LADDM today.
Yay!
In the last drops of Tauer Les Années 25. Such a great perfume! I enjoyed it a lot!
I should have gotten a full bottle, all I have is the mini. Waffled too long!
It is definitely full bottle worthy. Never too late…. ?
It was a limited edition and there is no more. 🙁
I’m at my gate at the airport waiting for my flight to Michigan. This will be my first vacation and travel since last November. I’ll be off the grid for a little while. My brother is staying here to keep an eye on Mom and visit her. We treated her to a Chinese dinner out last night and she had lots of presents and a little chocolate cake. I’m glad it went well and that now I get a break with dear friends up at Lake Michigan.
PS: I forgot to mention my SOTD, which is Elixir des Merveilles.
Enjoy your well deserved vacation time! ?
Enjoy! The weather is supposed to be decent here for awhile, starting tomorrow.
Have a wonderful time
Enjoy Lake Michigan!
Enjoy your vacation!
Safe travels!
SOT(y)d was Angel Eau Croisiere. I actually really liked this one as it reminded me of Auric Blends perfume oil rollerball in Coco Mango which I own. It did not last very long though and did not not possess the strong sillage that is normally associated with Angel. P.S: ‘Angel’ and ‘did not last long’ are words that I thought I would never write together, I just about fell over typing them out. 😉
I like this Angel. It’s very juicy!
I’m wearing DSH Un Robe de Zibeline, a great cool weather comfort fragrance. However, it’s not as cool today as I thought. Oh well!
Oh my GOD, Corsica Furiosa! Why didn’t you tell me? Just kidding, you definitely told me. It’s so great! I’m amazed that it manages to be so green and weird but also so personable and personal at the same time. I feel like it’s the best iteration of an idea that others have reached for, like Goutal Chevrefeuille and that DSH one that smells like green beans and even Jardin en Mediterranee. Great blind buy! Thanks NST!
Corsica Furiosa is an amazing green parfume. You smell wonderful!
I love CF, my second favourite from them after Azemour les Oranges, u smell lovely and strange!
Do you think that if one doesn’t like Azemour, then Corsica is also a no? I found the former too masculine for my taste, but I’m attracted to the name Corsica. 🙂
I’m with you on Azemour, but I love CF. Definitely sample it.
Same as Suzy Q! I didn’t hate Azemour but I did give my decant away with little regret.
Alright, my arm is all twisted! Must try this soon!
Thanks for asking this. Now my curiosity is piqued as well.
CF might just be my favorite of all the new (to me) perfumes I tried this year. You smell delightful.
Safari edp, first time this year, and one of my all time favourites.
LOVE that one
I’m in Chanel 19 EDP, an Eau de Protection if there ever was one, and feeling seriously envious of all of you taking trips hither and yon. And of Ede’s garden – wow.
Agreed! That’s what I’m thinking of wearing tomorrow.
A true E.D.P.!
Good one! ?
I’m in Eiderantler today, just a few drops from a sample. It’s green, I can tell you that, but not much more. I’ll spray the rest of the sample on and see if I can create a more intelligent post. ?
Mmm, well, I get some soft musk and comforting vanilla. This one is very easy to wear and I’m glad to have tried it. Thunk!
Commando as I’m waiting for the ibuprofen to kick in (I think I’m allergic to wine, if that really is a thing), but then I’m going to sample like crazy – first swap package arrived!
Was it white wine? It could be the sulfites. I get headaches and general malaise from dessert wines–probably from the sulfites. Here’s an article I found if you want more info: https://drinkpurewine.com/spreading-the-truth-about-sulfites-in-wine/
(The silly picture is worth clicking on the link even if you don’t really care about the article!)
Thanks for the link – and a nice quick read, too! I had an aha! moment when I read that some people get congested after drinking wine – this sometimes happens to me, and I could never figure that out! I have almost no issues at all with when I drink European wine in Europe in the summer – but of course that’s when I’m not stressed out about work and all kinds of other stuff either. Or perhaps there are more sulfites in California wine?
Well here’s an interesting stat. (It might not be your imagination!): ” In the European Union, wine may contain up to 210 ppm sulfites. In the U.S., the upper limit is 350 ppm.”
Are you drinking more red wine in Europe? Less sulfites in red wine as well.

I drink all colors but summer often means more white. Thanks for the link! I must cancel our local wine club memberships when the year is up, at any rate.
How interesting! I used to suffer from hayfever (I grew out if it somewhere along the way), and sometimes a glass of white wine was completely the wrong thing. I thought it was just me 🙂
I have a similar reaction. And the same when I go out for sushi. Sulfites from vinegar & soy sauce, presumably.
I made sure to choose something I know I like today, which was Jo Malone Tuberose Angelica. I find it pretty similar to L’Artisan Nuit de Tubereuse.
This morning I participated in a skit done at our monthly company-wide meeting. Luckily, I only had to hold up signs to have the “audience” applaud during our Let’s Make a Deal skit. There were a lot of system changes and updates to announce and one of my co-workers came up with the game show idea. It went over so well. People were cracking up when our game show announcer, who is actually an actor, switched from his radio host voice to a leprechaun-esque voice to tell a “searchable knowledge base fairy tale” that was behind door number two.
What fun! I like skits at company meetings…so much better than a lot of the boring presentations…
Hmmmmm… the next time I am near the JM counter, I need to re-spray the Tuberose Angelica. I remember liking it quite a bit.
SOTD is Hermes Vetiver Tonka. I haven’t worn my little travel bottle in years. Why did I relegate it to the back of the cabinet, I wonder. Today it smells delightful!
Yum…I forget to wear mine too.
Wearing Dua’s Holy Grail, still really love it! I’m also thinking that it might layer very well with florals, adding an earthy hint of damp soil.
Yep, it smells kinda like dirt. I like dirt. Oh! and mud, too.
Oh, that sounds like something I need!
So glad that you are still enjoying it!
Back from my vacation in Provence and feeling a little homesick for France already.
In Jo Loves Gardenia, the only straight up gardenia I enjoy along with VC&A Gardenia Petale.
Welcome back! How was the trip?
Thank you Lillyjo, it was heavenly to be in Provence, so much organic fresh produce: peaches, plums, figs.
I always do when I get back from France, at least it’s a sign that you had a really good time there.
Thank you Austenfan, that’s so true.
Late today….that’s how it goes sometimes I reckon….
Wearing an impulsive, last minute layering of Clarins Eau Dynamisante and BBW Agave Papaya Sunset mist. I felt like adding a quick spritz of sweetness to my herbal sillage, and it’s working out pretty well!
I’m in L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne. Helps to keep my inner balance right.
Yay! You smell WONDERFUL!
That one is SOOO good! Reminds me of pl67 and eldest mini Marzipan! they are both in love with beachy scents.
Baiser de Russie as I was in a hurry, and it was in front of me. I’m enjoying that it seems to stick around for awhile on me. Had to bring some things to our accountant for tax things….spent over an hour just chatting with him. It’s our annual gabfest. Such a dear man.
I am going to dig out my decant. I love that one
Smelling great, LizzieB!
I was making a decant of African Leather for the swapmeet, so I’m wearing a little of that, and then I put on some Theorema. They are working surprisingly well together.
Re: Rosemary–mine, planted 2 years ago, is threatening to take over the back yard. However, a newer one, planted 20 ft away, died within a few months. I don’t understand plants at all.
Sotd is L’ombre Dans L’eau. I’m a little bummed because I found out another one of my co-workers was hired at the place that didn’t hire me. I am not a concieted person, but I just don’t get it.
That stings… and stinks (not the L’Ombre, of course; that idiotic work place).
They are idiotic!
It’s their loss.
I don’t even really want to work there anymore. It’s just that, in retail, it’s not that hard to get a job. I am more than qualified. I think it just came down to they didn’t like my personality? Or, and I hate to say it.. but my age? The 2 girls they hired are 21. Idk..
Sad to say, but it could totally be an ageist thing.
I agree it could be ageism. 🙁
Your experience in retail is precious, they were stupid for not realizing it, more opportunities will come Lillyjo.
Phooey.
Thanks Jalapeno ?
You’ve moved on from that, look forward to the next opportunity.
Thanks! I really needed to hear that. You are right.
Aromatics Elixir should could as a Fierce Force Field, so wore this today. Sadly the top and heart notes don’t last as long as i would like, the drydown on me is a bit meh…
topped up with Jicky for some home sport, it smells better, when i am sweating, it amps the civet
I’m the opposite, I love the drydown so much. If any perfume was a force field, it is definitely AE.
I concur
Friday 13th here but it doesn’t count as it is only Sept 12th in NST land , and tomorrow is the 14th in the real world…so we don’t actually have Friday 13th. I am in Tauer ?..sotto…? Gardenia . Pretty good! I like it better than Noontide Petals., which I tried yesterday.
I guess you luck out!
If you like tuberose, his Tuberose Sotto la Luna is quite good. Although my dog hates it. She rolls around rubbing her face on the blanket when I spray it, as if to get the terrible smell out of her nose.
That must be so darn cute!
My Friday force field scent will be Myrrhe Impériale. I like quite a few of the Armani Privé, which is an expensive problem 🙂
Yes it is!
I wore three fragrances today for force field because it was insane at work
Feminite de Bois (thunk)
Dolce Vita (thunk)
Jasmine Noir (thunk)
every time I used the ladies room I sprayed from my decants. I think that alone made me a force field 🙂
and if I cannot post tomorrow because of work I plan on wearing vintage NO 19 EXTRAIT!!!!
courtesy of Portia from Australian Perfume Junkies (it was a draw win)
Oh, I bet the extrait is divine!
I’d have been happy to hang out in your ladies room just to enjoy the scents 😉 No. 19 extrait will surely do right by you tomorrow.
You’re bringing out the BIG one(s) for tomorrow!
Sounds like a great force field! 🙂
Some minor grumbling today, so here goes: another bad night of sleep to start the day. Then I find out that one of my favorite shampoos has been reformulated and now smells terrible. First world problems, I know. ?
SOTD = Estee Lauder Azuree, in the old style bottle. That didn’t work so well to keep irritants at bay, so tomorrow will call for a different perfume I think.
I adore Azuree, so I’m certain you smelled terrific; sorry, though, that it didn’t offer you better protection from troubles!
Azuree does smell great, so it certainly wasn’t at fault! ?
I’m still annoyed that Costco stopped selling their own moisturizer, I loved it. And don’t even get me started on the new and improved Colgate.
Time to start looking for another favorite shampoo. And stock up on my other favorite one if it is still around. Shampoo doesn’t go bad, does it?
I have shampoos I’ve had for years, so I think you’re safe.
I hope you sleep well tonight and tomorrow is a better day!
Thank you Petunia! Me too!
Sweet dreams tonight!
Thanks lillyjo! I’m trying to stay up until my usual bedtime so I can get back to my typical schedule. I hope that the cats will cooperate with my night time plans. ?
I may be in trouble tonight…I had half a tall of nitro cold brew?
So if you are groggy tomorrow, we can blame $tarbuck$?
Do tell us the shampoo so we can all be warned!
Good sleep tonight 🙂
So sorry you are sleep deprived. Get plenty of rest at the weekend. I smelled the current Azuree not long ago and was impressed.
Wore Angel Etoile des Reves to bed last night and the deep drydown this morning was so yummy I put more on. Initially this one just smells like A*Men but the drydown is gorgeous and rather un-Angel-like. It was actually reminding me of Aroma M Geisha Noire or Eris Night Flower and other vintage-y oriental fare.
Plan is to stay up to watch the debate tonight, but dang, I am beat. I’ve been staying with my sister and taken on the project of cleaning out her basement, plus cooking dinner (including vegetables harvested from her garden) every night. This is way more work than my tired old bones are used to. We’ll see if I make it past the first round. I (finally) made Pasta alla Norma tonight, which I’ve been wanting to make since last summer but hadn’t been able to find any ricotta salata. I’m so tired I barely have the energy to get up and heat it up to eat. But that’s what I’m gonna do now…
You are a good sister! and smell great, too! Maybe a pre-debate nap would help…
2nd that! I wish my sister would come clean my basement and make me pasta!
Hmm, I need to sample this Étoile des Rêves, sounds good.
Trying to use up the little sample of Gucci Memoire… that I got from Sephora. I do really like this on skin, but am kinda disappointed in the longevity and sillage. Oh, well…
It beats having a perfume that you hate hang around all day, though.
That’s the truth!
Amen.
Just finished sampling my Rogue Perfumery scent. Nice! I see a FB of Chypre Siam in my future. Some of those scents are surely force field scents.
Do you ever have days where you go do a chore like the dishes just so you can *accomplish* something? Work is just on high-interrupt mode lately. So many interrupts I can’t get anything done. At least the dishes are clean now.
Yes! I can absolutely relate to doing chores for a sense of accomplishment.
Absolutely. And I add things to my ToDo list just so I can actually check something off. Work is so frustrating right now.
This is why I love doing laundry and dishes, so I can feel like I accomplished at least one thing.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Silver Iris
https://www.instagram.com/p/B2UXNEhB-_t/?igshid=1qww40bshmgln
This is the sleeper of the original metallic series. The picture I posted was the 30mL freebie I received with the purchase of a 100mL bottle, the only size available then (not sure about now).
In other news, I also posted about trying a sample of Zoologist Squid which was love at first sniff: Pez and almond extract up top for a short time, then warm spicy vanilla amber with a thread of salty marine.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B2Sl2k4BcNI/?igshid=v6qanoe45e78
Here’s the but…I found out way later that it caused a non-itchy skin rash in the exact shape of the sample swipe! Earlier today, I tried to edit the post but IG claimed No Internet Connection crapola. Anyway, I will try editing again. In any case, I still have the travel spray in my buy list because I will wear this via spray and walk into the mist so there won’t be any concentration of the perfume anywhere on my body.
I love Silver Iris! Bummer about the rash, at least it didn’t itch.
Squid sounds good. Is the marine note similar to EDM Blue?
Saltier and more rocky vs EDM Bleue’s which is smoother
To my nose it’s a whole lot like Arquiste Sydney Rock Pools. Which I have a vat of…
That’s a bummer about the non-itchy skin rash. It still means there is something in that perfume that doesn’t agree with you. ?
I know! I should look for any perfume note intersections. So far, there’s been 4 since I’ve been keeping track, one each from Chanel, Aftelier, Puredistance and now Zoologist. There were several others that caused one tiny hive so I’m not counting those.
Love Silver Iris! It was my wedding perfume. I’m looking forward to trying Squid, although if I like it I will only ever own a decant because I hate the picture of the squid on the front.
It’s on my top 5 Atelier! Funny about not liking the picture – you can always cover it up with a sticker (this is my inner 6 year old speaking ?).
Yes, that did occur to me too. 🙂
Scent this afternoon ended up being Guerlain Tutti Frutti, courtesy of nancyleandros. That sample was leaky, but Nancy sent me a wild and wonderful variety of fragrances to sample, so I’ll still have many to try. And the point of a sample is that you learn what the fragrance smells like, so that worked that way. 🙂 It felt like Nancy had great fun picking out this and that and the other in various categories. I’m sure I’ll have great fun with those samples. 🙂 Thank you!
*should be “Tutti Kiwi”
