Tuesday scent of the day 9/3

Posted by Robin on 3 September 2019 245 Comments

It's Tuesday, and summer is (unofficially) over. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Kenzo Air, the best licorice vetiver. My tea at the moment is Harney CTC Assam.

Reminder: on 9/6 we're doing Best in Class...you decide the category, then wear the best.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Kelvin Chen Back to School teapot is a decorative miniature (not a functional teapot). "Beautiful enamel over copper miniature teapot with a removable lid. The teapots are between 3 to 4 inches tall. Each piece is hand painted in brilliant colors and includes a silk box for storage. A certificate of authenticity is included and the piece is stamped on the bottom with the name Kelvin Chen and an edition number." $37 at Fun Collections.

    Good morning Y’all!

Well, I’m a SUMMER gal…I love HEAT and sunshine and everything that is summer, so September is always a bit sad for me. BUT, I do love the holidays and fall/winter PERFUMES, so I refuse to let sadness overwhelm me completely! Plus, I do live in Atlanta, so summer could go into late October if I’m lucky….. šŸ™‚

Wearing Bath and Body Works Pumpkin Marshmallow Latte and enjoying the heck out of it! Also used the shower gel last night. I don’t really get pumpkin at all….I smell like a Nilla wafer…..but it signifies fall and I love it!

I’m very tempted by some of those mini fall candles at B&BW. The fall ones are my weakness. Hope it stays summer where you are, as long as you’d like it to. Send the cold my way✌?

Oh my goodness….I LOVE LOVE LOVE BBW candles. But alas, my dear sweet hubby does NOT NOT NOT! LOL He will tolerate the apple cider one, but nothing sweet or foody. He’s a vanilla candle guy, and that’s about it.

That being said, I still have a couple of sweet fall candles that I burn when he’s not around….. šŸ™‚

I have a weakness for B&BW candles also. Leaves, Pumpkin Carving and Cranberry Woods are my Fall favorites. I cannot burn candles when colder weather arrives and windows are closed, because I develop a bad allergy. But as long as windows are open I enjoy their spring, summer and Fall candles a lot!

Remember to watch for sales and coupons for those candles. Bath & Body Works often has good sales on items like that.

I struggle with their candles. But I absolutely love animal wafers, so would be happy to smell like one. Must try.

Wearing Fracas – best tuberose and probably one of the most iconic perfumes ever.

Many thanks to everyone to kept their fingers crossed for my fridge. It looks like the repair was successful and it works fine now. I hope it stays like that. šŸ™‚

I can’t tolerate tuberose either, especially if it is so prominent. As much as I appreciate and like Fracas and Carnal Flower I can’t wear them. I still have hopes that someday I am suddenly able to enjoy tuberose.

Zoologist Civet has tuberose in it and it smells great, the only one I’ve found. I’ve said before that tuberose beats me up on the playground and trash talks me to gardenia, another pretty note that hates me šŸ˜‰

I don’t remember if I have tried Civet yet. I need to check my Zoologist samples.
I also have a love/hate relationshp with gardenia. I love some scents and dislike others badly.

Have you tried SL Tubereuse Criminelle? I’m tuberose phobic also, but can wear that one.
          I can’t hack gardenia, either.

The only extended warranty that has ever paid for itself is the one I took out on our refrigerator. I have lost track of the number of times someone has had to come out to fix the ice maker. I think we finally had the definitive repair last time, though. They guy told me it was the one they do when everything else fails (which he hinted was inevitable).

We’re on our 2nd ice maker and I just had to turn it off because it is malfunctioning. Last time had water shooting out the ice dispenser until we pulled the fridge out of the cubby and shut off the water valve. I’m not taking any chances this time.

Well, I’m loving that back to school themed teapot. Adorable!

I’m wearing CdG Kyoto to try to combat a windy, grey day. It’s very gusty and blowy, a result of a front that came through yesterday, sparking horrible rain and storms. Still watching Dorian, but really, it’s hard to lose track of him when he’s lumbering along as he is.

Keep your collective heads down, people! It’s a crazy world out there!

Aww, Petunia – I do too! Maybe he really does and just doesn’t want to admit it. Mr. G had to get over the idea of spending money on such insubstantial things, but he finally came to terms with it as a hobby (like his golf obsession, or his soccer-watching obsession), something that isn’t really “useful” except insofar as it makes me really, really happy.

My husband doesn’t obsess over things. Probably because he has five siblings. I guess that he learned not to at an early age. As for perfume, he pretty much dislikes it. I’m just happy if he doesn”t complain…not that it stops me…?

Hey, has anybody noticed that FragranceNet is now selling 0.27 ounce travel sprays for some of their scents? I went a little crazy yesterday, ordering several. It would be so fantastic if they did this for every scent they sell; currently it looks like a limited collection (but nonetheless large enough that I found plenty to purchase).

Hajusuuri can explain it better, but perfumemathfree is when you find a really great deal by using points, or with an amazing discount, or when the cost-per-ml breakdown is miniscule because you were able to acquire a gigantic bottle for basically a song.

Perfumath is a branch of mathematics reserved for calculating the cost of perfume. Spending any amount < $50 is automatically considered perfumath free. The state of being perfumath free can also come about through what Sheri described.

Have a dry down of Gabrielle Essence on me which is now light woods but started as a headache inducing pear-ish white floral. Says it has peach..I get a big peary citrus . A lot stronger than original Gabby..and not more wearable to me. Also tried the Idole Lancome…which is like Tresor In Love part 2…no thx. The Gucci is growing on me..the dry down is nice.

I’m testing today, Southern Gothic from Sixteen92. It’s a coconut suntan lotion scent, which isn’t a category I really like, and not a description that fits the name. It should have been earthy and vintage-feeling, not vaguely gesturing towards white florals but not really making it there. Can’t all be winners!

No, that really does not fit the name! Actually, Diptyque Olene fits the name (to me).

I’m in Rose Jam, the best sweet rose. I had something else in mind for today, but I switched it up after hearing that my coworker is staying home sick. Thought I should take advantage and wear a strong perfume.

I’m definitely dragging today after the 3 day weekend. I’ve actually had 4 day work weeks for almost the whole month of August because of my two weekend trips. It will be hard to go back to a 5 day week next week!

Hmmm, since I’m also into rose, do you have other rose categories? I mean sub-categories? Sweet rose, Turkish rose, dark rose, pink rose? I like this idea. I still haven’t tried Rose Jam.

I don’t think I could take it that far because I’ve only started to really pay attention to rose perfumes for the last few years. I used to be quite bored by rose soliflores, but I appreciate them more now. Rose isn’t one of my favorite perfume notes though I’d love to see rose lovers break their faves into sub categories.

      My favorite roses –
      Dark Rose – Mohur Extrait, Portrait of a Lady;
      Rose incense – Rose de Petra, Rose Vermielle;
Sweet Rose – Paris, Rose Jam

I use Rose Jam shower gel in the winter but herbal things in the summer.

Hmm, I think I am low on Rose Jam as well, come to think of it…
      Thanks for the listing!

Well . . . I just got back from the dr moments ago. She’s convinced I have Pertussis. I doubt it. I let her swab me, take x-rays, and prescribe inhalers, but I want to see the lab results before I’m given antibiotics. I’ve had this thing 5 weeks, so a few more days won’t make much of a difference. In any event, she was gratifyingly alarmed, which was the polar opposite of the ER doc I saw about 10 days ago.

Thanks so much for asking. (I had to interview a woman this morning in Nigeria via Skype–and between the poor connection and my coughing, the recording is a bit of a mess. I am looking forward to this thing passing!)

SOTD TDC de Bachmakov since I wanted something light and fresh.
I had a nice and relaxing long weekend despite all my plans getting upended, partly because if the rain yesterday.
Here’s an odd one: I’d gotten an email invite from someone I know from ukulele circles who was having a uke jam/potluck in her yard this past Saturday. I RSVP’D but didn’t hear back and was reviewing the email for address details and realized there wasn’t a building #, only cross streets. So I messaged her and she responded saying she was sorry but she was maxed out on people vis a vis space. So weird! Why would you invite more people than you have space for and then have to reject RSVPs? I can’t figure people out sometimes.

I think you are being far too polite just calling it weird. I’d say it’s downright rude! The whole point of inviting somebody is because you WANT them to come, so a person should plan on everybody invited to come and plan accordingly!

I guess I think it’s weird because I can’t imagine even considering doing that! I know her, but not well and only from my meetups so I didn’t take it personally. She’s actually really nice, but apparently clueless, and clearly very comfortable disinviting people, which also was pretty jaw-dropping, lol.

I think it is just plain rude. I don’t have time for this kind of person and will only tolerate their presence as they are in the same uke/jam group. Life is too short to deal with this nonsense. I’m sorry this happened to you. A while back, I read an article on giving yourself permission to divorce your friends; this person would be a candidate if this were to have happened to me. If a friend decides to divorce me, I probably won’t shed any tears because that’s life. If it keeps happening, I may want to know why.

I’m not as offended as others here, just mystified. Was it a first come first serve, space is limited potluck? Or was it based on what you offered to bring? (Had enough side dishes, only looking for main dishes and dessert here on out?!) Hilarious. She sounds, as you say, clueless.

We’ve had two events at our place that got too big (the first was a post-memorial service gathering/dinner that we had no access to who was invited/who was coming–we planned for 25 and nearly 40 showed and the other was a sit down formal dinner we hosted as an auction item for a fundraiser, and folks brought friends–that was only 18 up to 23, but it did make things extremely complicated–AND people we barely knew got very drunk . . . ).

I kept rechecking my emails looking for a caveat but didn’t see one, unless I missed something. I personally wouldn’t want to deal with the headache of a caveat and start having to respond to turn people away.
We did the over inviting thing once on a 4th bbq thinking only maybe 1/2 would show and nearly everyone came. It was too crowded in our tiny sliver of a yard and uncomfortable so the next ones we had we invited far fewer and then extended it out to others if the 1st round was low show. That worked out pretty well.

The thing that tips it over the edge for me is that you RSVP’d and she didn’t respond to let you know more people had responded than anticipated. She just left it hanging out there…and it’s entirely possible you had declined another invite because you had already accepted hers. She let it stay in your calendar. There’s no excuse for that. Just common courtesy. It’s not difficult.

That teapot Limoges-type box is too cute. My husband teaches high school math and it reminds me of him. No SOTD yet. I will need something celebratory. Just had new mattresses delivered from Denver Mattress. Really looking forward to sleeping with good support. My younger son went gaga for the Purple Mattress. We got him the original model, which is the least expensive. He has champagne tastes for his age. Thankfully, the older one (who will be going away to college next year anyway) chose something much more reasonably priced.

    SOTD = L’AP SĆ©ville a l’Aube

It’s the best in class for something, I just haven’t thought about for what ?

I’m in the process of looking through my mom’s stuff. I don’t necessarily have a system per se, other than trying not to get bogged down in one ā€œsectionā€. There’s really no hurry as I am in the house and not planning on leaving or selling any time soon. That said, I found some momentos that I forgot all about. There was a mini porcelain brandy glass with an inscription for my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary. They had a big bash then, with almost 1,000 people! Nowadays, weddings 1/4 the size are already considered big. I can’t imagine knowing that many people but I suppose it’s family and friends and their families!

In other news, I listed some freebies in this past weekend’s Lazy Weekend Poll for U.S. recipients. Go check it out!

You smell fabulous, that’s one of my favorites and I’ve worn it a lot this summer.

Wow, 1000 people is a ginormous party! The logistics must have been a very big deal.

I should have worn SƩville more often; every time I wear it, I say the same thing!

I think I was a pre-teen then and everything looked enormous. I don’t recall the name of the hotel but it must have been one that also caters to business conferences. There were massive accordion room separators and the space may have been all the rooms combined. I recall ice carvings and a family that came wearing jeans to a semi-formal (for guests) and formal (for family) event and other than that, it was all a blur!

I guess the opposite philosophy from “sorry, we’ve maxed out”. Seriously, that’s lovely. We were having a conversation about saving mementos recently, cuz my hubs is a saver, and about keeping something you don’t “use”. But sometimes the memories that get sparked seem worth it.

Currently wearing 4711 Mandarin & Cardamom, which is my favorite of this summer’s 4711 binge.

Also wearing TF Metallique and Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur. In theory. The TF is drowning out the rest, and of course I don’t like it.

Had a classic perfumista moment at Nordstrom just now. I attempted to buy some LL city exclusives in the 15 ml size, only to be told that they don’t exist. So we did the yes-they-do no-they-don’t dance a while… Guess I will be hitting the LL website soon! At least the SA was nice, if uninformed.

Will have to give some thought to Best in Class for Friday – maybe an iris sniff-off?

What I have kicked off is my New year’s in September project: using up decants. Today was Guerlain’s Meteorites, which seems to be a cheaper version of Misia – both are makeup violets.

Back last night from a 5 day trip to WV. It was a good visit but super happy to be back and get on with the move. We are packing up the remainder of our stuff and plan to head out on Saturday for CA.

I wore L’heure Bleue (vintage extract) and and Le Jardin de Monsieur Li the whole time in WV because those are the samples I grabbed on the way out the door!

Today I’m in Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. I love this one so much. It’s an easy everyday kind of wear for me.

I hope you all are making it okay today after the long weekend!

Hmmm…. I’m wearing vintage Aliage just because of all the recent discussion of this and other EL scents. It’s my best in class personal scent from my 20’s and probably one of the top humidity-cutting scents out there.

Saw ā€œReady Or Notā€, which was my husband’s movie pick for our discount date. Entertaining comedy/horror. Yes, I had to shut my eyes in part but the gory parts were fairly comic or off screen. Characters were very well drawn.

Leathery Patchouli sounds good! In practice, although I’ve ordered several times from Smell Bent, I may have only smelled Florist Fridge (I like) and Prairie Nymph (NO – skankfest) and the rest are just evaporating although I’ve given some away.
