Almost-Friday and International Cat Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: another day Strange Invisible Perfumes Musc Botanique.
Reminder: on 8/9 we'll celebrate National Book Lovers Day...wear a fragrance inspired by an author or a book or a character in a book.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Smelling nice, green and refreshing in Amouage Bracken Woman.
Happy almost Friday everyone!
? happy almost Friday to you too PL67!
Thank you! ??
A new avatar! It’s very cute
Thank you!! Royalty-free clip-art!
Twins!! Wearing it on the top of my hand
Oops! It posted before I could finish. It’s a stunning green and lasts forever!
But keeping with my Chanel week am wearing Balad Sauvage… Yowza!!! A beautiful and well blended fig. I think it’s my favorite!!
Fig? I tried it today and got lots of wood but no fig. Dioramour was lovely.
I love them both! And yes, fig! You know my wonky nose ?
Hi twin! Bracken is such a beautiful fragrance! Full bottle worthy for sure!
I have just a decant of that one, from Scentbird… it is lovely!
It is indeed! I might get a decant after the sample is completly gone!
A good choice
Thank you!
Almost Friday = ?
??
SOTD is Perfumer H Orange Leaf. I’ve been topping that off throughout the morning with Sarabecca Neroli Oil.
I took out my decant of orange leaf a couple weeks ago and can’t figure out what I did with it. You smell great!
I’m going to go sniff Carner Barcelona Palo Santo later this morning. So right now I’m wearing Stash. International Cat Day!
Will look forward to your thoughts in Pablo Santo
They sold out their line of Carner Barcelona. Got samples of Latin Lover and Fig Man, have not tried. They have been discounting their niche lines. CB Bond No 9 is 50% off as is Nishane. But nothing caught my eyes. I did order Palo Santo from Amazon so will report back.
Stupid spell check. Palo is a word!
I happen to like what I see as a “milkiness” in PS. But curious how others see it.
I will report back. I did try Memo Marfa, that one is very pretty.
Sitting up straight in No. 19 Poudre
You smell wonderful!
Lovely SOTD!
Hello all! Wearing a full application of 90’s Mitsouko EdT. Real bergamot AND oakmoss? Perfection.
Sounds wonderful!
I’m in Feu Secret today – coziness for a drizzly day. As one of my coworkers says, “Happy Friday Eve!”
You smell great, I love feu secret!
I am on this week’s theme in Heeley Oranges and Lemons Say The Bells of St. Clements. Good for this warm/almost hot day.
Ha! That’s another one that’s on sale at Twisted Lily! Full bottle worthy?
If you are into citrus colognes (especially neroli), than yes. I like it a lot.
Good to know!! Thanks ?
I went straight there after you mentioned the sale. I had to close my eyes. Good thing I am not up on the latest!
The temptation is real!!!
I am wearing L’Artisan Mont de Narcisse and drinking a cup of English breakfast tea.
Next month my husband and I will experience a milestone — our 30th wedding anniversary
To celebrate we are going to Rome and Florence with a Mediterranean cruise in between. We leave in a few days.
I plan to visit some perfumeries while I am there. I remember that Olfattorio and Muzio were very nice when we visited Rome five years ago, and I have never visited Florence. Any perfumeries or shops we should visit? I appreciate any suggestions.
Congrats on the anniversary! My parents celebrated their 30th this year too.
Happy anniversary!? A milestone indeed, I hope the two of you enjoy your trip!
Congrats to you and your husband!!
Old Herbaceous just came back from there and I am hoping she posts on her blog soon about the shops she visited. Maybe Santa Maria Novella? I think they are in Florence.
I would go there, if only to see the space. I think they also sell some sort of beverages….
I have heard nothing but good things about it.
Thanks ! SMN is definitely on the list
??
Happy Anniversary! ?
Happy early anniversary! What a wonderful sounding trip
Enjoy! Florentine food is my favorite Italian food, and that city is my favorite to visit in the country. No perfume advice, but I hope you love it there.
Congratulations, what a wonderful trip to look forward to!
Congrats! No advice, but what a wonderful way to celebrate!
What a great way to celebrate together.
Congratulations!
Congratulations and have a wonderful trip!
Thank you for the anniversary wishes
Santa Maria Novella is in Florence and is supposed to be a beautiful shop. I haven’t been to it. So is I Profumi di Firenze. Florence is incredible, you will love it.
I was there and it is gorgeous. That was in my pre-perfume days and I bought nothing, just went in to see the pretty store.
Congratulations on your 30th anniversary! May you both have many more happy years. Enjoy your trip! ?✨??
Congratulations! There are lots of great perfume shops in Rome: Campomarzio, Mazzolari, Fragranze, Profumeria Parenti. In Florence there is iProfumi di Firenze and Santa Maria Novella.
Barqs, congrats, and I know you will have a wonderful time! Don’t forget that Lorenzo Villoresi has opened a museum…

So, I’m feeling better, back at work, and my SOTD is Un Jardin après la Mousson. I don’t wear this very often, but I like it.
That is good to know. Mousson is beautiful.
You smell great!
I’m wearing Sweet Redemption, my favourite orange blossom and my favourite Kilian.
Tea is MF Thé des Impressionnistes.
You smell great!
Good morning all, from me and Otto Mi Gato! He is currently lounging on the top tier of his special cat shelf (I work hard so that he can have a better life), and I am checking into email and such. I tend to alternate reading email with checking into NST, because the former tends to give me mental indigestion, and I need numerous breaks from that state. Remember way, way, back – when we thought that “electronic mail” was revolutionary, and we imagined it was going to make our lives easier and more efficient?
My scent of the morning is Aftelier’s Lumiere, of which I have the smallest bottle – the one that looks like it was made for a dollhouse. It is definitely luminous, with a grand array of floral notes. Kind of like the mix you get in Smell Bent’s Florist’s Fridge, but with a more natural vibe, and perhaps a bit more exotic.
Had to lol at your working so that Otto can have a better life! Our cat gets the best of what we can offer, too. ?
This week’s scent is vintage Adieu Sagesse because that’s what led me to write a story about how some women who met through NST (yes, here in the comments section!) banded together to help one of their own in need. Here is Part 2 (the middle section) of the story: https://delusiastic.blogspot.com/2019/08/farewell-caution-part-2.html. Tomorrow I’ll post the conclusion (in which Robin makes a brief appearance, as well as other people you may know!).
Nina, this is such a wonderful story.
Thank you so much for sharing it and above all, thank you for your kindness, compassion and willingness to step up and get involved when it was needed. May we all be as blessed with such good friends as Tama was.
Thanks so much for this comment, Holly.
Yes to this sentiment! I remember seeing some of the outpouring on certain FB groups and it was quite moving.
This story has me hooked! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s conclusion…although I am nervous about what happens to Tama.
I’m flattered that I got you so interested. I don’t want to talk about the end now (although many people already know it). Maybe tomorrow?
So touching! Thank you for sharing it!
Thanks for sharing this story. It’s bringing some vague memories to mind…from the days when I lurked. It also makes me remember my first meet up…at Missionistas…and how friendly everyone was.
Perfume people are really just the best, as your story shows.
Oh, have had a crazy busy week but will sit down with some tea and read both installments this weekend!
Sotd is Dilettante
Dilettante is so interesting. I think it smells like the whole life cycle of the orange blossom – rich and full but with a note of decay lurking in the background.
Very well said!
Yes, this, and especially that note of decay (a bit animalic as well imo) makes this orange blossom stand out for me!
What a perfect description! You’re making me want to wear it. I wonder if I will ever find my decant of this. Sigh.
I used up my 10 ml decant of this, and I really miss it. I think it’s one of the best orange blossom fragrances around.
Its a great orange blossom. Last time I looked Hiram Green no longer offered the 10 ml travel sprays
Love that one. You smell great.
I did not know to what to reach for this morning so I went with a tried and true: Eau des Merveilles. I don’t think I’ve worn it yet this summer so I’ll see how it does in the heat. We are on a stretch of the most perfect weather!? Too bad it’s my weekend to work, lol.
The other day I was walking through Macy’s and sprayed a couple sprays of Dune on myself and omG! That stuff is gorgeous! I could not stop smelling myself for the rest of the afternoon. I think the last time I tried it was in the fall or winter and it really bloomed in the 80 degree heat. I think I need some.
Dune is so good! I used up my mini awhile ago, but folks here keep bringing it up and I’m starting to think about replacing it…
It really is so good! Yeah, I’m thinking a cute 30 ml bottle would be just about right.?
Dune is so perfect. I think the current version is wonderful.
I agree! From everything I’ve read the current version is very close to the original. I guess this perfume did not suffer a bad reformulation like some perfumes did. I think it’s one of those department store gems like White Cube.
Agreed! Really the only difference I noticed is it’s a little less “deep” smelling. It’s still though definitely Dune.
I find them quite different, but that’s just my nose. I do love the vintage Dune.
I wore that week in the heat, it’s does really bloom! So pretty.
Last week*
Oh gosh that whole sentence… ?
Lol, I knew exactly what you meant flopper.?
You smell so good.
Thanks!
In Bvlgari pour femme which vaguely reminds me of the novel She’s Come Undone, probably because I read the book at a time when I was wearing this perfume with some frequency.
Oh, I love Bvlgari Pour Femme!
It’s been a long time since I read that book, but I think at one point a perfume is mentioned? Or I just think that , idk.
I would have replied to your question but I was curled up in a ball, muttering. I am not a film star that’s for sure. it was really cold and windy, about 2C, and the airport was closed in the morning due to snow and ice but they turned up and spent five hours filming. I was taken to the graveyard to stroll casually along the rows, pausing every now and then to read and ponder an inscription, or smell a rose that had caught my attention. Back home I had to pretend to write on my computer….at the speed of a typing pool secretary. Once in a while I had to look up from the screen to search for the correct word by gazing through the window…ah, yes, got it…type, type, type. Then I had to sit on the couch for an interview which was a blur ( literally) as I had to remove my glasses as they were too reflective. Then an excruciating photo session where I had to both relax and smile with my eyes…1,2,3 laugh. Once they had left I tortured myself by replaying the day, and my answers to their questions in my head? NEVER AGAIN!!!! Thanks for the Scented information. You are very kind.
Wow, that sounds very draining. I’m sure it will come out better than you now think it will.
I think people who are comfortable on screen must be able to turn off their inner voice, the one that keeps churning, ‘Why do you want me to do that? I would never do that. That’s not something that relates to my life. Why would I want you to film that? It’s private.’ etc. etc.
Dang. That would have given me so much anxiety. I’m sure you did great though!
Sounds excruciating… never again would be my answer too!
Ugh…I was scowling even just reading that! I would curl up in a ball after too.
Roses and tombstones! I loved your story. It made me laugh. I was once chosen to be a hair model for an 80s salon party in SF in the 1980s, all the coke and dope you could ask for. To say that I was out of my element is to barely scratch the surface of my normally homebody life. The music, sex, and drugs, and 40 people at any one time commenting on my hair as it was cut and dried…. in the center of a leather-clad audience. Not my usual Thursday night!
Please don’t torture yourself. The film crew is from another planet. First encounters are bound to be awkward, especially when there are several of them and only one of you!
1, 2, 3 … I am still laughing. And no horizons to boot.
Today I’m wearing Rosine Bleu Abysse. Sometimes I like the marine mood.
I stopped by Sephora today and smelled new Gucci, Memoire d’Une Odeur. What an odd perfume not a perfume. I find it quite synthetic, plastified. It does have a chamomile note that dominates.
I can’t get past the name. Sounds like a parody perfume that would be a gag in a Zoolander movie.
Condolences to Hajusuuri and reading SuddenlyInexplicably’s lovely ode to “perfumistahood.” In a more mundane vein: I’m smelling like the kitchen sink as, for the first time since getting the “collector’s bug”, I reorganized my perfumes. In the past, I had them divided into the four seasons, but quite randomly. Today I grouped them into citrus, incense, iris, colognes etc. And lo and behold, I hadn’t ended up with twenty musks or rose perfumes or BWFs. And this is really serendipity, as I kind of just bought what caught my eye. I do not have more than 4 perfumes per category and then often they can really be considered citrus for spring, summer, fall etc. And I have many smaller bottles: 50 ml, 30 ml, even a couple of 15 ml. I drew the line at those small 5 ml manufacturer’s bottles: I count them as decants!
What are your favorite musks?
I don’t like “clean” musks (I tried SL Claire de Musc the other day and maybe it was a reformulated bottle, but it really wasn’t for me), so maybe my list will not be universally liked.
I REALLY like AG Musc Nomade – I had a 15 ml dabber and recently found a well priced 100 ml bottle, so bought that.
Then Ted Lapidus Silk Way for a sweet-ish musk with other stuff.
TBS Red Musk Oil – someone here on NST mentioned it a couple of times, so I blind bought and am really glad I did.
MdO Carnation for a more old fashioned feel. That’s it!
Have you tried SL MKK? Definitely not a clean one!
Oh, I love the AG Musc Nomade. I am bummed out that I missed getting a 50mL bottle of it.
Just got back from having lunch with a friend and stopped at Bath and Body Works to get the honeycrisp apple candles. Spending some time with Givenchy III (vintage). As soon as it wears off, I will probably end up wearing Sarrasins. Last night, I saw Santana and the Doobie Brothers in concert. My mother knows that I am not too happy with her. While I was at work on Tuesday, she decided to rearrange some stuff in my bedroom without telling me. She has the tendency to just not pay attention to what she is doing and where things are and she knocked over a half ounce bottle of Chanel no 5 extract and spilled the whole bottle. She didn’t put too much away and mentioned that she was in my room and was doing this but failed to mention that a bottle of perfume was lost. I let her know that what she did was rude and more than a little invasive and perfume isn’t exactly a cheap hobby. I just don’t like it when people go through my belongings.
Aww, so sorry about your lost perfume! I hear you on the invasion. This was quite a while back, but my sister came to visit me out east and while I was at school she decided to go through all my drawers and closets and organize everything. She’s an obsessive neat freak, so I think it was more about her than about me, but I didn’t appreciate it the way she thought I should.
I hope you enjoyed your show!
On the incredibly embarrassing opposite spectrum, I was the daughter organizing and cleaning.
Thank God the bottle of, ?, Chanel #5 was recovered. The bottle was empty, but kept because it was purchased on my parent’s honeymoon.
They have both passed away, but that bottle will be with me forever.
I hope you enjoyed the concert but sympathize over the loss of the No. 5.
Hello Y’all!
Wearing the very light and easygoing Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri. Mostly a breezy citrus, but there’s a light hint of caramel in the background. Light enough that 4 sprays is completely gone now…..
I appreciate all the wonderful comments about my oldest going off to college! What an interesting feeling to have to let her go off independently after a lifetime of being 100% responsible for her every move! LOL It’s an adjustment, that’s for sure!
It is a serious adjustment for her and you. But what an amazing experience. Have faith. My eldest graduated university in May and it was by far the best four years of her life. Such an amazing opportunity to grow and mature. My third and youngest starts in two weeks. Allow yourself to feel all that you are feeling but know in the end it all unfolds exactly as it should. ??
You did good, mama! Hope her time there goes wonderfully!
Dug through decants and samples. Settled on Guerlain Baiser de Russie from a small decant. This really is a lovely scent. It’s sweet and pretty but I really get the pine. I want.
I know the titular character in Codename Villanelle has an obscure signature scent. But I think this pairs well with her.
Uh oh. Decants on eBay.
Wearing my beloved Dune today and cheating on the CP because of Frank Herbert. I’d have worn Dune anyway, love it this time of year. Happy Inter Cat Day from my sweet spoiled floofy Larry, who’s my best friend.
Aww, Larry! When my sis and I lived together, she had the sweetest rescue cat named Fred. Another friend of mine has an equally sweet rescue cat named Ron. Cats with people names are the best!
I love those names! One of my best friends had a bird named Fred
Larry is a rescue, he was 3 when we got him and he responds well to his name so there it is. Our last kitty was named Leroy and it was the same with him too – someday I’ll get a white cat and name her Opal or Pearl. We’ll see!
All of those are great names – especially Leroy! I’ve always wanted to name a cat Stanley.
Oh that’s perfect!
I just read an article about a study done in Japan that showed that cats do recognize and respond to their names.
SOTD is a spritz of AdP Iris Nobile EDT from a sample hanging out in my bag since I left without perfume today ?
I hope you liked the AN? I do think it is lovely but I know it is not universally appreciated.
Hi Robin! I am wondering if you have a Pinterest board somewhere of the pictures of all the teapots that you post, some of them are really cute.
I do not! I used to keep a perfume related pinterest board but I have not updated it in years so I removed the link to it.
I just put on some Diorella and it is making me very happy.
It makes me happy to think anybody is still wearing it
I think my favourite cat appears in The Master and Margarita. I will match the book with a perfume that makes me smile, Wander ( but not a great book match).
One of my favorite books! I am not familiar with the scent but will have to look it up now…
Sotd is Triple Vanilla Dream by Cocoa Pink. It reminds me of baking cocoa, but I like it. It took me way to long to realize baking cocoa doesn’t taste good from a spoon. Lol
Freeze bananas, cut into chunks, coat with baking cocoa.
Enjoy while frozen. You’re welcome!
I will try it!?
It must be your birthday soon, Bear? Happy birthday for sometime soon.
Thank you Kanuka !
Yes, next Wednesday.
Happy Birthday to your son.
Ooo! Same day as my son!!! Happy early birthday ?!!! ???
Thank you chocolatemarzipan8!
Happy Birthday to your son.
I knew it was sometime soon! Happy early Birthday!
Thank you lillyjo!
Glad you liked the new Gucci.
I did! I’m not as good at you at describing what I smell, but I thought it was very aromatic and that it smelled better if I wasn’t constantly sniffing myself, lol! It felt very uplifting.
Based on what I remember about baking cocoa, it smells good but can taste really bitter. I have a chili recipe that calls for unsweetened cocoa powder as part of the spice mix.
Yes, very bitter! It’s hard for me to resist any type of chocolate.
And vanilla extract doesn’t taste like it smells.
Very true!?
AC Jasmin Angelique today, nice in warm weather. I like the smokey note, reminds me a bit of MM Untitled.
SOTD is Oud Fleur. I ordered my back up bottle last night, along with some great patchouli samples. I am trying some more Tom Ford perfumes, because I have some points at Ulta and Sephora. And retail therapy is amazing.
Happy ? Day! Happy Birthday to my ? who would have been 16 today!
Thanks again for all the continued support.
Sounds like you will have some great smelling stuff arriving in the mail soon! ??
Yes, yes! I think my enablers are fabulous!
How about you? Any on the way?
Voyage parfum today, one of the best light spice scent I have.
I’m doing To Kill a Mockingbird this week as I mentioned the other day. Today I’m in Tuscan Leather for Atticus’s briefcase.
I’m so out of it, friends. If I’m sporadic on here it’s because work is flooding me since they know the 28th is my last day. We also have a house hunting trip coming up, plus a trip to see my hub’s mom in West Virginia all before the actual move at the beginning of September. Life is hectic right now. I do smell good most every day though haha and think of you all every day as well! I’ll check in as much as I can.
Keep calm and perfume on KellyC!
As long as you smell good! Good luck with house hunting. We ended up renting one year because we were so rushed.
Just a thought.
That’s what we did a couple of years ago and may do again. We don’t want to feel super rushed to make a purchase if we don’t see anything we love right away!
I really haven’t been keeping up with NST over the last couple of weeks, the upside of which is that I have lots of weekend reading
I have managed a thougnt for the week’s theme, I’ve been rereading (yet again) some Agatha Christie novels, which bring to mind any of the older classic perfumes, so I’ll be wearing Vol de Nuit today.
I’m pairing CB I Hate Perfume Cradle of Light with Jeff Van der Meer’s Southern Reach trilogy, especially Annihilation. I get otherworldly neon green from the perfume, and it gives me the same vibe I got reading about Area X.
Gorgeous photo today Robin!
Much better weather here, thankfully! I had a couple of sun showers this afternoon. They made the cats wonder what was going on outside. ??
Also good news to report about my friend. She is complaining about the hospital food, so I am taking that as a positive sign. After all, when you feel really bad, you don’t really care about eating. At least that’s been my experience.
SOTD = Soivohle Pachou Minimal, from the sample stash. I wanted to wear patchouli today, but had decided that it wasn’t going to be Angel yet again.
I’m glad the weather and your friend are looking up today.
Thanks lillyjo!
Happy to hear your friend is doing better. Hopefully, she’ll be home soon.
Better weather here, too! Puurfect!
No Angel?
Glad your friend is better, and glad you like the zinnia!
My SOTD was SMN Melograno, which I’ve concluded I really don’t like. It’s not simply tart on me, it’s just plain sour. And it strikes me as having some kind of old dough note. Not sure what’s causing that. This bottle needs to be ready-homed.
In other news, I am trying to clean out my office, not easy after 32 years. Ugh. Packed up nine big boxes of books today and selected just as many to move to shelves in the hall for colleagues and students to take. This probably represents about one-fourth of the packing and moving that needs to be done. And of course I had to wait for a heat wave to do it in.
Re-homed. Not ready-homed.
Good luck! Can you bribe a buddy with a delicious perfume? That would work for me!
Do you have current Melograno or vintage? I have a vintage bottle and it smells like vintage Emeraude…not fruity or tart at all. It was launched in 1965.
And my 17 year old was using it like an aftershave until I took it away from him LOL ? ?
It’s perhaps 10-15 years old. And it’s been kept in a dark, enclosed, cool cabinet. I think I simply don’t like it!
Send it to chocolatemarzipan, she loves that stuff! I sent her my vintage bottle as I didn’t like it either.
OK, will do. Chocolatemarzipan, I am cfreelamd with quadruple nines in the realm of the yahoos.
???
Sent! But to Freeland as freelamd did not go through.
Indeed we do love it Chez Marzipan!!!
I also meant to say that’s a gorgeous zinnia photo, Robin. I haven’t ever seen that pattern/color combination on a zinnia before. My uncle raises dahlias and has had some dahlias like that. I love them.
Here’s a photo: https://flic.kr/p/5eXYy9
I haven’t either, and I don’t know enough to know when flower images are mislabeled — do you know if that is a zinnia?
I’m not sure. Its center doesn’t look quite zinnia-like, but there is a zinnia with this coloration. https://www.selectseeds.com/annuals/zinnias/zinnia_pop_art_white_and_red_seeds.aspx
I put on a spritz of MdO Musc just for form, then went out sniffing with a friend. Sprayed a dozen things all over me. Dior Dioramour is lovely but not strong enough (like most of the new Dior Privés). Hermes Twilly Poivré was dreadful, a sharp peppery thing, very screechy. Mugler Alien Fusion was the most pleasant one I tried. SL Clair de Musc smells like heavy duty laundry musk.
Oh, too bad, I was sort of hoping the Twilly flanker was worth going to try.
Silver Thread from Potentia today. I have nearly thunked my sample in less than a week. Ordered FB last night along with Ineke Idyllwild.
Then reading today’s thread, saw sale at Twisted Lily… so now I’m at 4 FB this week. Sigh. But my birthday is next month so I’m using that as my rationalization!
Yes! You can designate several friends and family as the ones technically giving you the birthday bottles! The more family/ friends you have, the more bottles you can purchase ??
Oh and I just realized I get an enabler pin for mentioning that sale ??
