Friday scent of the day 7/26

Posted by Robin on 26 July 2019 227 Comments

It's Friday, but it won't last. Our community project for today is Gone In Sixty Seconds...wear the shortest-lived fragrance you own. Bonus points for reapplying all day long. Thanks to pyramus for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in good old Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert. It is probably not the absolute shortest lived fragrance I own (somewhere I even have a bottle of Florida Water) but it's fleeting enough for our purposes. When it fades, I plan to liven it up, briefly, with some Providence Perfume Co Lemon Liada.

Reminder: on 8/2 we're doing edition 3 of the Guessing Game...describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is. Suggested by Glannys.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

TGIF! It’s wet and thundery in my neck of the wood.

I started my day with 28 La Pausa, which was all gone by the time I had to leave the house. Keeping on the Chanel theme, I switched to Bois des Iles on the way out. No bonus points for me :-)

I think this is the shortest lasting thing I can remember. It was gone by the time it hit my wrist, and frustratingly smelled great for the second I could smell it!

Whoa, Omnia lasts and lasts for me, though I get anosmic to some of the musks at the drydown.

You smell great for a few minutes!

It lasts and lasts a long time for me, too. But then I never wear it in the summer, it’s an early fall scent for me. Perhaps that’s what makes the difference?

I have an appointment early this morning so I will probably be safe in something citrussy. Either Love’s Fresh Lemon or YR My Green Summer. Any trace should be gone by the time I leave the house.

Its going to he a scorcher here today; stay cool everyone, and Happy Friday!

I don’t think My Green Summer ever launched in Canada, at least not in the stores, at least not in our local one. It sounds nice, especially the shower gel.

Love’s Fresh Lemon is definitely a blast from the past. There were so many lemon scented things in the 70s, Lemon Up shampoo was a favorite because the cap was a plastic lemon :) Thanks for the memories today Gail!

I remember Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific but I don’t remember what it smelled like. A quick Google search just found it at the Vermont Country Store, the description says that it no longer has the original musks so I guess we’ll never know what the scent was? Maybe someone else knows.

It was a toss-up between Cristalle and Mediterraneo for me. Neither is actually gone in 60 seconds – I usually get maybe 60 minutes out of them – but since I can respritz Cristalle, that’s my CP pick. (I CAN respritz Mediterraneo, but if I don’t wait long enough to do it I get lemon Jolly Rancher from it – ick.) Anyway, have a lovely Friday everyone!

Oh my goodness, Robin, you smell gorgeous! I may have mentioned here before that when The Vert was launched, not especially widely advertised, & only available in Bulgari stores, I popped into (I say popped, you had to be buzzed in by a rather large security chap!) the Sloane Street shop to try it, was seated, given a glass of fizz, & presented with a small paper & cardboard booklet, bound with ribbon, explaining all about the fragrance, its ingredients etc & when you’d leafed through the pages, at the back was a cut-out section with a miniature bottle inside – I was absolutely delighted! The staff, in such a luxurious shop in such an upmarket street, obviously overlooked my jeans, sneakers &, back then, no doubt denim jacket in favour of my pre-existing knowledge of & enthusiasm for their new product. I still have the booklet & bottle, & went on to buy more than a couple of the full size bottles – for me the original & still my favourite, although I have tried others in the range. I didn’t find it lasted a short time on me at all, though! Had to comment as you brought back a very fond memory – thank you for that.

I remember when The Vert was introduced around my area. I stopped into a fancy Department store looking for a “signature scent” for myself. (This was back when the idea was to find one true fragrance love for life). Nothing seemed right until I wondered over to the Men;s counter. (This was before the idea of unisex scent or gender crossing was widely discussed). The Vert was there, and it was perfect.
Several years later, I looked for a body product and The Vert had been moved over to the Lady’s side. Years later I had used up my bottle, and brought a replacement. Unfortunately it must have been reformulated it and I barely touch it.

Your story reminds me of when my husband and I went engagement ring shopping in Chicago. I didn’t want a diamond ring, and we found 2 alternatives that I liked online. At Tiffany they were super rude and dismissive to our grad student selves. At Cartier they were super welcoming and gracious. Guess where we bought the ring?

Wow, we had the same experience in NY decades ago! Tiffany staff were awful and totally ignored us in favor of trying to talk a Japanese tourist into buying a ring that wasn’t the right size for his wife. We’ll resize it in a day, they said to him. He said, I’m on a flight home in two hours, I want something I can take now. He left, and so did we. Crossed 5th Avenue to Harry Winston just for fun. They were lovely, and they found the stone of my dreams that I described to the salesman. Guess where my lovely ring was bought?

SOTM* = Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat

I bet I will have many twins today!

1 minute per spritz, I kid you not. If I have to reapply every time it vanishes, I would be doing it all day long and thunk the bottle in no time. Maybe this is the first perfume I should change to a splash bottle ?.

Since I’m also going for Chanel week, I decided to wear 28 La Pausa EDT and woo hoo, the leather came out due to the lemon in EdFdC! And this just gave me an idea that I could try layering with Profumum Roma Acqua Viva!

I’m going for Carthusia Mediterraneo for my SOTD AND the CP.

But maybe there’s an additional category? I know most of us have a fragrance that is gone in 60 seconds that we wouldn’t want to buy again. What about fragrance that is gone in sixty seconds that you love and would rebuy? Mediterraneo for the win there, too!

And in general, I do not think of “short lived” as a bad thing. I like my fragrance to be gone in 2-3 hours. Boring after 15 minutes, that is NOT so good.

Rounding out my rose week with Rose Prana (so good) and testing Burlesque for the first time (yowza! smells very shalimaresque to me…and it has rose in it too!)
Yesterday evening I tested Flux de Fleur…even on my scent devouring skin I could still smell it this …this is some seriously gorgeous stuff….I am told by my dear friend who sent me a decant that it’s GONE. I will relish my decant and try it again in the fall and winter because I did NOT get any animalics whatsoever. On my skin it reads as a sweet leather, which segues into a creamy, milky, suede with tropical florals (tiara???). This morning it smelled like coconut.

No original thoughts here; I checked the comments and then applied the Bulgari Tea Vert and some Guerlain Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat over some sweet almond oil.

Once in a while, I stop wearing perfume regularly, and that’s been the case lately. There’s seldom a specific reason for it, although the high heat of summer may be a factor. At any rate, short-lived perfumes are a good fit for me right now.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

Imaginary Authors St Julep, from a sample, it barely lasts ten seconds which is sad because it smells really good for that ten seconds. I was surprised because the other IA scents I’ve tried last for ages on my skin. Allure edt is my actual sotd.

Toss up this AM between En Passant and Bal d’Afrique hair perfume. I think I’ll go with En Passant, and keep it near me for reapplication ( that is in my home office, not lugging it around in a purse or briefcase sort of thing!).

One time, on a day that turned out to be warmer than expected, I wore the hair perfume and Azemour les Orangers. A woman at the supermarket involuntarily exclaimed, “Wow, you smell good!” And then she seemed embarrassed and surprised. And then said, “You do, smell, really great.” Tempted as I was to say, “yah, I get that a lot” ?, I thanked her and explained that the heat was amping up my perfume more than I had anticipated. We were getting supplies for a long hike—I had probably overdone it for a hike in the heat, but only my husband and the Seagulls had to deal with it at least.???

I went with 4711 White Peach & Coriander body spray from a recent swap with neyronrose. While I can still smell faint peach sweetness on my arm, there’s absolutely no sillage and I have to get my nose really into my arm to smell it. I can’t respray since I’m at work, so I’ll just have a very lightly scented day.

I thought I would share my good news from yesterday with you all. Since my boss left the company 3 weeks ago, my department has moved under the HR manager. She was promoted to a VP soon after my boss left. Anyway, I had a follow up meeting with her about something I’m working on. At the end of the meeting she brought up my job description because we’re working on revising it. This led to her telling me that she and another person in HR have been doing compensation review. They compared to other salaries in our industry and outside of the industry for those in positions not exclusive to our industry (my position). Anyway, the point is they decided they want to be more competitive for employees where my position falls, and they think I’m unpaid. So I got a really large raise! I started crying lol. It is really nice to be at a company that is doing the right thing for employees.

Congrats on the raise! That’s some good news. :) Yes, the 4711 body sprays fade really fast. I’ve definitely mentioned that here.

I’ve been commando these past few days aside from lemon or lavender hand lotions. I may put on one of the other 4711 body sprays at bedtime. My folks noticed the Lemon & Ginger cologne *way* more than they noticed the body spray. I don’t get much scent from the Mandarine & Cardamom body spray, but I may get the cologne sometime and try that.

      Have a good weekend, folks!

I will say that the job market in Seattle is booming. There’s a really low unemployment rate. So I’m sure they want to have an edge to be able to retain employees longer. Makes sense to me, and I’m happy to benefit from it!

That’s fantastic, congratulations! My husband’s company does this, and he has been able to give great raises to a couple of deserving colleagues. Sadly, my own employer is more of the school of “let’s see how little we can pay dedicated employees, and we don’t really care if we lose them.” So dumb. But very liberating when I realize I’ll be eligible for retirement with benefits in the next couple of years. I will sail out that door with no regrets. I should say, the benefits are great for families with kids to educate (free tuition), and I feel much of what I do is important, which is why I’ve stayed.

Going into work much later than usual today but I am not complaining as it allowed me to get a couple things done so I don’t have them hanging over my head when I go on vacation. I hope today will go a little easier than yesterday. It amazes me on how people think that I can fit the equivalent of War and Peace on a cake. Most people want a simple happy birthday or a good luck but if you want lots of writing on a cake, order the cake, cake decorators can fit a lot of writing on a cake, I don’t have the finesse to do that. Wearing a decant of Cristalle Eau Verte. I have already applied it twice since 11am today.

Not my most fleeting but I didn’t want to search around too much, Henri Bendel Pink Grapefruit And Vetiver again. It really is as its name says….

I tried the new Pacifica Beach Lavender and Lemon. For the first 30 minutes it was, on me, lemon candy. Kind of icky sweet. I sniffed again later and it had mellowed so was nicer. But pretty faint.

As a seasonal fragrance wearer, most of my summer scents are light and vanish quickly in the heat and humidity, so it was difficult for me to choose just one. Instead, I decided to reverse today’s CP and wear my longest-lasting summer scent and that would be EL Sensuous Nude edp. Layered over BBW’s Sea Island Cotton, it lasts all day and is suitable for all occasions, both indoors and outside. I also have the Sensuous Nude edt, which is a little lighter and I might wear it on a really hot day. The Sensuous line works really well for me and is probably the only one that I have all the flankers, one for every season, plus the extrait when more depth is needed.

My heart goes out to all those in Europe suffering from the current heat wave. Ours ended last Sunday and we’ve had the best week of weather this summer – sunshine, temps in the 80’s, and low humidity. The cats are thrilled their screened porch is open once again for serious bird-watching. They were getting tired of the indoor lap-sitting, book-reading in the A/C – so was I!

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend ahead!

I thought of Mediterraneo which is already represented I find and finally went for Yardley Jade, a Cristalle EDT dupe which last a couple of hours because it was easily reachable. It was really popular here in the UK a couple of years ago but I no longer see it on the shelves, I hope it hasn’t been discontinued, it’s a lovely scent but Cristalle lasts longer.

Sorry for getting back to you so late Robin, I made a little inquest and sad to report Jade (2015) is no more. Yardley reformulated and added the word Flora so it is now Flora Jade and completely different. The original Jade has now become a mini cult fragrance as it was indeed so reminiscent of Cristalle with a personality of its own. If there weren’t those silly regulations here in the UK, I would send you some.

Back in Aqua Vitae today. I think it’s the shortest lasting thing I own. I brought a travel spray with me and have reapplied twice since being at work lol. After respraying so many times it seems to be lasting on my shirt, but you still can barely smell it on my skin.

We are taking the airstream to Ojo Caliente this weekend. It’s mineral hot springs up in the mountains in northern NM. They also have a pool and spas etc. It’s very zen. They have suites and a lodge and such but also have RV camping so we will take the trailer up. I’m hoping to soak and relax all weekend after what’s been a somewhat stressful weekend.

Not with the CP… but I am completing my own Personal Project: ending Beach Week in EL Bronze Goddess, what else? I am neither bronze nor a goddess but at least I smell like one.

The weekend is almost here! Gonna be a hot one here. Perfect for hanging out indoors in the A/C and watching the Tour de France and Formula 1. I can watch other people exercise for hours… lol

This week I went with all sunscreen-type scents… SJP Stash Unspoken; Smell Bent St Tropez Dispenser, Bad Guy, and St Tropez Gold; and EL Bronze Goddess.

Other favorite tropicals are Olfactive Studio Still Life In Rio; Kilian Moonlight In Heaven; Vilhelm Mango Skin; DSH Fleurs du Soleil; … coconut fruity sums it up I guess :)

You smell great while it lasts! Chanel Eau de Cologne is gorgeous( the best lemon along with Acqua Viva), but only lasts about an hour on me. If Chanel decides to improve a formula and make it last at least 3 hours I’ll buy the biggest bottle, but for now, money is saved!

CPSOTD is Hermès Eau d’Orange Verte. Talk about ‘gone in 60 seconds’: the orange bit disappears on me in under a minute—that is, if I can even smell it in the first place (which I often can’t). Then it’s just very faint oakmoss for a while before fading away entirely. I’ve been reapplying, so bonus points. My small sample/decant is going to be empty after the next round or two. Can I get double-bonus points for thunking???

Happy Weekend to all you lovely, fragrant peeps!

Almost perfect summer weather in my part of the world. Blue skies, white puffy clouds, and low humidity. The only fly in the ointment, so to speak, is that an Air Quality Alert has been issued by the State of NJ. Probably for ozone. ??

SOTD = Vivienne Westwood Libertine EdT, from the sample stash. Not compliant with this week’s CP. I have scent glue skin, so for me, even notoriously short lived perfumes like 28 La Pausa last for around 4 hours on me. Heavy hitters can last 24 hours or more.

California Riverie for me today, somewhat complying with CP- it lasts about 2-3 hours on skin.
Getting ready to place an order @luckyscent. I will be buying a travel spray of Profumum Roma Acqua Viva (enabler pin goes to hajusuuri, who sent me a gigantic sample :). I have finally found a great lemon scent that I love through all of the stages of development. YEY!!!
I only need to figure out which samples to get. If anyone has any suggestions I’ll be happy to read them.
I am currently looking for a green floral scent with piercing galbanum note, oakmoss and hyacinth. Iris and white flowers ok.
No tabacco, lavender, honey and patchouly.
For references I love Vero Profumo Mito, Jacomo Silences, Chanel 19,28 La Pausa, Cristalle, SL Bas de Soie.

I’m not doing the CP today. Last week in cleaning out perfume boxes drawers cabinets etc., I discovered some samples I didn’t remember at all, and tried them. Parfums de Marly Safanad really just sent me into ecstasy and I wore it again today because I needed a distraction from tooth removal pain (I tried eating toast this morning and it was a mistake). This is SUCH a gorgeous perfume, and I’m feeling the need to buy it soon. Maybe just a small decant. Anyway, this one DOES last. It was the first thing that rose to my consciousness this morning as I was emerging from the depths of sleep.

On a far less sublime note, I was cornered by a man at my mother’s assisted living center as I meant to be leaving this afternoon who insisted on confiding to me that although he is 94 and “no use” any more, when he was 64, he wanted and was able to have sex “six times a night.” I said to him “That’s too much” and surprised him, and made my escape!

Thanks! I’ve always liked her because she’s such a smart survivor. Even though the novel intends her as a scandalous “adventuress,” it’s clear that Thackeray found her much more interesting than his novel’s sappy heroine. And I imagine she must have worn a very good scent.

And thanks to you, too! I tried to post to Lillyjo an explanation of my lurker reasons but my internet connection went poof. So I’ll try again.

I’m a neophyte at perfumes. All I know is that I’m a vetiver lover, even a vetiver junky. Any scent that claims to be vetiver based immediately grabs my attention, which means I’ve made many bad spontaneous purchases. Luckily I’ve found a few keepers, but I really need to be schooled in the science of perfume–which is why I came here!

Scent for a few minutes: Reapplication of 4711 Lime & Nutmeg body spray. Fleeting, but delicious-smelling while it lasts. :) I’m still able to smell the nutmeg part up close now with the generous reapplication I did. lol

This was a clever idea for a project and something I found easy to participate in. It looks like many others were able to participate, too. :)

Yves Rocher Orange Blossom, Lavender, and Petitgrain. Lovely and refreshing and calming, but even using the “spray yourself wet” method, or the “use your perfume as a base for your perfume” technique (TM Portia), it’s barely detectable after an hour, and only lasts about twice as long sprayed on clothes or sheets. YR edts are usually quite pleasant, but they do not stick around. I think I’ve worn it about five times, and gone through 10 mls. Have reapplied, and will spray some on my sheets when I go to bed. Happy weekend, and stay cool, everyone.
