Happy Tuesday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a little dab of Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez (Eau de Parfum, aka White Cube), and drinking a cup of Hong Cha Mao Feng from Upton.
Reminder: on 6/14, we're doing the picture challenge, edition 4, part 2 (you can find part 1 here). Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is Georgia O'Keeffe's Blue and Green Music. You can find snippets about this painting here and here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows a Penguin Classics edition of Kazuko Okakura's The Book of Tea, which was apparently one of Georgia O'Keeffe's favorite books.
Hi everyone!!!
Its been a while. I am back from vacation.
Vietnam was super awesome!
The food is amazing and i fell in love with Vietnamese iced coffee. People are very friendly and the countryside is beautiful. Traffic is something else though, it seems there are no rules or laws haha…but you get used to it.
Most cities are quite ugly when you just look at the architecture…but the streets are so charming and alive and energetic. And all the tropical flowers and plants smell amazing.
We stayed in Ho Chi Minh City and DaNang. From DaNang we made daytrips to Hue and Hoi An.
The weather was quite hot and extremely humid though, and it was not even hottest or wettest month/season.
Usually I am all about long hikes and exploring cities by foot, but this time I also spent quite some time in air-conditioned shopping malls / food courts, taxis and restaurants hahaha.
We also had a wedding to attend there so we did not really have a choice when it came to picking a period/season.
But if you want to visit Vietnam and are, like me, not a big fan of hot humid weather….maybe try a somewhat cooler season/location.
Anyways, its good to be back. I missed my perfumes and you guys!
In other news: i quit my job, so hunting for a nice new opportunity is now my daily task. 🙂
welcome home!
the coffee is the best. glad you enjoyed your journey!
The coffee is so good!!!
I always thought iced coffee was not for me (i blame a bad starbucks experience), but Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk, still has that good stong coffee taste. Its because they use a very strong robusta, ive been told.
And an iced drink in very hot weather is a win as well of course
Do they drink it all hours of the day?
Yes. Probably not everyone drinks it all day, but cafés/coffee houses seem most busy in morning and also evening hours. And some are even crowded at nighttime (some of the cafes are open 24/7 and those are really coffee houses, they dont sell alcoholic beverages).
So yes, they take their coffee really seriously.
In Ho chi minh city everywhere you look, no matter where you are, you can spot a café/coffee joint.
And of course they also serve good hot coffee ….americanos and good cappuccinos and then there are local specialties (with egg yolk or with coconut milk…havent tried it though).
In the bigger coffee houses (especially the chains), you can also find all sorts of tea and ice tea (both the bitter non sweetened version and the very sweet and/or fruity varieties)
I love Vietnamese iced coffee, it’s super strong but so delicious!
Many of the shops in SF have coffee with condensed milk and sweetened condensed milk, it’s nice as a treat but it’s super rich!
Its not widely available here 🙁
So when weather gets warmer here, I think I have to make it myself. 🙂
I’ve been drinking robusta and it’s sooo good, even without condensed milk which I don’t use. Your trip sounds amazing!
Sounds like a wonderful trip, welcome back!
Thanks.
I enjoyed it a lot and I def would go back, but I am also kinda happy to feel coolness on dry skin again, after two weeks of 24/7 (except when under an airco) hot sweaty skin haha. 😉
So nice to hear you had a great time in Vietnam. Good luck on your job hunting!
Thank you!
Yes good luck! You’re trip sounds awesome!
You are brave to quit your job, I seem to remember from you earlier comments that it was getting very stressful.
Glad Vietnam was such a success. Interestingly Da Nang gave its name to a lung condition that was first described during the war there.
Yes it was just not happy with my work anymore, and that caused a lot of stress. (Together with some personal/family issues). My employer was very understanding and cooperative. They already knew I was not planning on staying there forever. 😉 So we solved it in a good way and now I can spend all my time and energy looking for something new!
I am feeling so much better now.
I did not know about the Danang lung. Interesting!
Welcome home Jiji, and hope you have a new job very soon!
Thank you! I love that Book of tea illustration btw!
Welcome back! I am living vicariously through you as there are some exotic destinations for which Indi not have the constitution to visit.
well, I have to admit, it was not the most relaxed vacation ever.
I loooove Vietnamese food but my stomach does not fully agree with it. Luckily nothing nasty happened, just minor discomfort. Probably because of a certain herb or spice they use a lot.
Because when we ate Korean and Japanese food there, my stomach issues were suddenly gone.
And then there are mosquitos and they can carry dengue. Dont read too much about that..its really scary argh.
So you have to apply repellant everyday. Sigh…. and i am such a wuss, so first days there i kept my eye on anything small flying nearby hahaha.
And sometimes the heat (smog in the city) and air-conditioning gave me headaches or made my throat hurt.
So no…. it was not always a smooth ride and I kinda get why some people avoid it.
Still…. i think the discomfort was all worth it. 🙂
Ha! Thanks for the blow by blow. My whole body and eyeballs twitched after reading your comment ?
Oh, I had forgotten about the Dengue fever! :-0. Glad you had a good time and made it home safe. Hope you find a wonderful new job!
Welcome back, Jiji! Your trip sounds great, but high heat and humidity can certainly take its toll after a while. Good luck finding a job that will work out better for you!
Sounds like a fantastic time, and good luck finding a job that fits you perfectly! ??
Jealous! Glad it was such a successful trip!
Welcome home!
I have access to vietnamese coffee in my neighborhood and it is really good!
One day, I wish to visit Cambodia & Vietnam. I am very envious of your trip!
Keep it on your bucket list Ede97005!
I was able to go to Laos and Cambodia in the early 70’s and again in 2002. Angkor is one of the places in my heart – my avatar name is in the Khmer language. AND the coffee in Laos is as wonderful as in Vietnam.
Oh thank you! I certainly will! I have always been intrigued by Khmer culture and Angkor Empire. The connections to India with the script, the cities, the art. It is as fairytale like to me as Timbuktu and Celtic Kingdoms.
Yes, the connection to Lanka City as told in the carvings of the sea of churning milk is amazing. it has always been mystical, magical to me also. There are certain city names that just let your imagination go big and wide.
Wow!
Must have been quite a difference between the 70s trip and your visit in the 00s.
🙂
Sounds like a wonderful trip. I have a work colleague who has been to Vietnam several times and raves about it.
Welcome back, and good luck on the job search! 🙂
I had seen a blogger who lived in Manhattan say that she was unable to cross a street by herself in Vietnamese cities. The traffic there seemed to be a shock to her system.
Sometime I would like to try the food. I’ll go by various restaurants with Asian cuisines, including a Vietnamese restaurant, when I go on errands or to appointments in the afternoon, but they open at 6:00 p.m. for dinner, and I’m out and about in the area around 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. The timing doesn’t work. Someday I’ll get to the restaurants I have in mind at the proper lunch or dinner time.
I felt like that Manhattan blogger on my first day. Haha.
The trick is to walk steadily and slowly, so the traffic can anticipate and swirl around you. And it works! Even taxis slow down for you or change lanes.
After a few times you get the hang of it.
Just dont cross when you see a bus or big van/truck coming your way. Its so very crowded on the streets, if they have to choose between avoiding you but also hitting dozens and dozens of scooters OR hitting you and saving dozens of scooters…. I think we all can guess what choice they will make.
Vietnamese food is great, I hope you get to try it soon 🙂
Welcome back! Glad to hear that you had a wonderful time in Vietnam. Best of luck with your job search.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh
what a night, my smoke alarms need to be reprogrammed and they chirped all night waiting for electrician. Still waiting.
if I ever get out of my bathrobe today to get to work, it will be something calming like Satori.
Satori= great pick!
I may wear that as well, later this day after a short afternoon/evening jog 🙂
I can’t count how many times I’ve removed batteries from alarms so I could sleep (the rest of) the night! I had an apartment that the alarms would go off every time there was heavy rain–located here in Portland! Needless to say, I went without an alarm more than is generally advised. . .
Oh Marjorie Rose,
they just fixed everything. No chirping for the first time in almost 24 hours.
I need a drink and I don’t drink!
?????☕️
Ugh, so sorry!
Sorry about your night, but chirping sounds better than that piercing screech, I suppose. You smell fantastic!
Ugh! I hate hate hate HATE when the smoke detectors do that! One time, we actually removed the offending unit and locked it outside in our car, since we were out of batteries. My sympathies.
if it hadn’t been wired, Jalapeno, I would have followed your plan.
Well, I sprayed Mediterraneo rather liberally about 45 minutes ago and it’s gone already (it’s heating up rapidly here this morning, headed to the mid-90s), so I guess I’ll switch to Eau de Hadrien before I head to work.
Both smell great! Mid 90s – oh yeah, that’s hot.
You smell(ed) great for 45 minutes!
I was thinking of reaching for that one, for the same reason. Need to think cooling thoughts today!
Thanks! I wish it lasted a tad longer, but it’s so beautiful that I’d hate to have it tinkered with. Cooling thoughts, for sure – I’m hiding out in my over-AC’d office, wondering how hot the car is getting out in the parking lot. 🙂
I was just considering a decant or mini of Eau de Hadrien for the summer. Do you prefer the edt or edp?
I’ve only tried the EDT so I don’t really know … but the EDT has decent lasting power on me, and it’s really lovely in warm weather.
I love EdH. You smell super good.
Wearing L’Artisan Seville l’Aube today. I love this so much I could wear it daily all summer long if I wasn’t so fickle (and wearing lots of different scents is one of the things I most enjoy about our shared hobby.) It’s a beautiful early summer day here.
Gorgeous here too, yay!
wearing lots of different scents is one of the things I most enjoy as well…
Smelling wonderful in Seville!
I think I’ll wear Seville tomorrow! U smell wonderful!
I grabbed Rose Flash from my sample grab bag. Love it.
I love this one too! Also Vanilla Flash. Haven’t sampled the other Flashes yet…
Incense Flash is very good
You smell divine!
Same tea different scent. Sous les Magnolias by Pierre Bourdon. It’s been quickly becoming a new favourite. I now regret that I didn’t get La Fin d’un Eté as well. Still a great excuse for another trip to Paris.
Tea twins!!
It’s such a great time for jasmine tea, isn’t it? The one I’m currently enjoying is a fancy Silver Needle Jasmin. Worth every penny. Plus I buy this one from a local and very small tea seller who sources his teas in China himself.
I only just understood that I was a bit vague in my comment. I’m drinking the same tea I was yesterday and not the same tea you are drinking. I’ve just looked up your Hong Cha and it looks great!
Ha, gotcha, my mistake! I do love jasmine tea and need to get a better one than what I have.
Hi Austenfan!
I have been meaning to tell you how grateful I am for your tip to visit the Astier de Villate shop on rue de Tournon on my last trip to Paris a couple of weeks ago.
I went in hoping to smell and buy Sous les Magnolias only to find it was completely sold out (they had a tester hidden in a drawer; I asked to smell it anyway but was not crazy about it, which was just as well). I then decided to smell the other three Pierre Bourdon perfumes and fell in love with La Fin d’un Ete. Did not buy it on the spot, as I always try not to get carried away and be a wise perfumista. But I gave myself a few good sprays and I could not stop sniffing my arm for the rest of the evening. I bought it the next day and I have been wearing it almost daily (and nightly). I simply adore it. I only wish it lasted longer. I currently have no back up bottles of anything but if it’s still available next time I’m in Paris, this will be my first one.
So there. Thank you! ?
I’m so glad it worked out for you and how kind of you to report back! Angela complained of the lasting power of the Bourdons in her review but I have no problems at all.
https://nstperfume.com/2017/08/28/pierre-bourdon-sous-les-magnolias-and-la-fin-dun-ete-fragrance-review/
It was actually this review plus Grain de Muscs comments about the Bourdons that put me onto them in the first place. My favourites were La Fin and Magnolias with a slight preference for the latter. I also really liked the shop and I love the Astier de Villatte colognes.
I found Angela’s review after my purchase.
I think she mentioned wishing she had bought backups as well.
I agree, it was such a nice shop all around! I did not try their colognes. Next time.
Thank you again!

Red wrap dress today, wrong move as it’s windy
Hope there’s no unwanted wardrobe drama for you today! I’m sure you look fabulous!
I wear a lot of vintage-inspired clothes (think 60’s before the women’s movement), including fit and flare-style wrap dresses! One time, however, I was in a favorite dress that was a true wrap–seam opening all the way up to my navel, and I was walking across the library parking lot. BIG burst of wind blew it clean open in front of an old guy nearby. . . I was VERY grateful that I was wearing an appropriate “knickers” style slip that day!!! He got a good view of some lace and satin, and my modesty remained in tact. ☺️
Wow that’s some drama! Once I was wearing a loose, flowy skirt while crossing the street on a windy day and had my own personal Marilyn Monroe moment in front of the waiting traffic 😀
It’s nice we can offer these gifts to the community. ?
You probably made someone’s day 😉
Oh….Wrap dresses in windy weather…i keep making that mistake over and over again. I always check for rain, but not for wind haha.
I love Good Girl Gone Bad, you smell wonderful today!
You are familiar, what is the dominate note you smell in this one?
I’d say the narcissus or tuberose, it’s a powerhouse!
Diptyque Fleur de Peau to cheer me up on another dark, rainy morning working outside at one of the sites. However, the afternoon is supposed to be bright and beautiful! Looking forward to seeing you soon, my sun friend! ☀️?
You smell great in FdP! Hope it cheers you.? Looks like we’ll be swapping weather this afternoon.?
Thank you! ? Sorry, I am sending you that gloomy weather. Hopefully, it will go away quick! ?
Grateful for bright & beautiful here in NYC today! Would be happy with hotter temps but sunshine is lovely.
Isn’t great in the city right now? I am downtown today and the winds feels a little strong by the Hudson river. I wish it were warmer also, but no complaints!
It’s perfect! Downtown is always windy.
Enjoy that sun when you get it! It’s a gorgeous day today for me, but the rest of the week is more rain.
It stopped raining already and it is beautiful outside! Rest and feel better soon, Lillyjo!
Also enjoying a gorgeous day, weather-wise. After yesterday’s yuck, I am not taking these nice days for granted.
It was a big change from early in the morning. I really enjoyed the day, because I was working outdoors most of the time. It was and still is gorgeous! Let’s spend time outside now, before the heat hits us with all its fury!?
Hope you got some needed sunshine!
Yes, it was really beautiful in the afternoon!
As Sheri mentions, we’re up for a few hot days here in Portland (and it’s only June ?), so today I will need to feel cool and not too big–I think I’ll take a break from the Zoologist scents and go for a known entity. . . I’m tempted to reach for some vintage No. 19 I have stashed away. ?
Oh, it was hot as Hades yesterday, I went to bed in vintage 19. Very refreshing!
I feel like it does an unusual perfume magic trick–it is a *full* scent without being too heavy. There’s something golden and sparkling about it!
No 19 sounds like a really good idea for today!
No. 19 is always a good choice, no matter what!
It’s cool and overcast here which put me in the mood for a dark rose – PoTL A*Maze is fitting the bill nicely.
Yum, never hear that mentioned anymore!
I went with Mirus The Elysian Fields today. This is a gorgeous fougere, heavy on the lavender with hints of hyacinth and oakmoss. It’s like sitting in dappled sunlight near a babbling brook. It’s very likely going to be a full size purchase for me once I thunk the sample.
Ooh! That sounds like it would be right up my alley!
It’s very well done, and not too expensive which is a nice bonus.
I wish it came in a candle, or at least that I could find a similarly cool, lush fougere candle
Sounds beautiful!
LADDM, because the cobalt mini reminds me of the blue in the painting, and O’Keeffe spent much of her time in the desert of New Mexico, right? I had no idea she went to high school right in my neighborhood. Huh. Small world.
I am currently in search of “the” perfect white T-shirt. Thoughts? I’m eyeing The Tee from rag&bone. I love the look of that railroad stitching, but is it really worth $90? Yikes.
Don’t get me started with white tees!
I used to wear, and love, JCrew painter tees but they don’t make them anymore. $90 for a tee, especially a white tee, is too much for me.
Still searching…
L.L. Bean has some nice casual wear. The colors of the colored T-shirts, blouses and pants aren’t true on their website or in their catalogs, but since you’re looking for white…
Let me know when you find one
Good luck with the white T-shirt search.
Oh, and hello scent cousin!
I’m also in search of the perfect white T. I’m on a white kick lately.
Have it in black, it’s a good tee. Don’t pay full price–either sign up for Rag & Bone emails (they periodically offer 25% off) or check Bloomingdale’s site…it seems every other week they have a friends & family discount.
Another really good tee is ATM Anthony Melillo, but would never pay full price. They are quite discounted postseason at places like Net a Porter and Shopbop.
Meant to chime in earlier but got distracted with work. Check out Jungmaven for really good cotton/hemp t shirts. They’re reasonably priced at $38-$48 for most. I have around 8 of them in various colors, mostly crew neck with some v-neck. I like the weight of the Lorel a lot, which is mid weight, but they have lots of options for thin or heavier fabric.
SOTD = Geisha Botan by Aroma M. Came in my Olfactif monthly sample box. Notes are “peony, rose, sandalwood, vanilla, velvet woods, forest lichen, oakmoss, musk”. I’m getting the vanilla, but it’s not overly sweet. Really like this. Reminds me of Vanille Insensee in the way the vanilla comes off (not particularly sweet or gourmand), but more floral.
I started my day with some fun new body products from a store called Rituals (which I encountered for the first time Sunday): shower gel, body scrub, body cream, hand lotion and some hair/body mist in a variety of scents, including orange/woods, rose/almond, eucalyptus/rosemary. The scents all have fancier names I can’t bother to remember.
My shower routine has been really boring for years (think: Trader Joe’s cheapies but goodies), but now that I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole, I have a whole new world to explore.
I used to have an olfactif subscription and really enjoyed it. Beautifully curated. I am always thinking about restarting
I got a subscription as a Christmas present this year, and I’m enjoying it. At first I thought Geisha Botan was just about vanilla, which disappointed me, but I’ve enjoyed it both times I’ve worn it since. There is a little bit of interest added by the “forest lichen” and oak moss.
I will try again! I love it on paper, but it was much more one-note on my skin, and not different enough from Vanille Insensee to be an insta-buy.
Am debating an FB of May’s Hothouse Flower before the price goes up again.
Have you ended up buying any bottles based on the monthly samples?
A shower gel habit isn’t quite as expensive as a perfume habit, but it can get just as crazy.
SOTD for me is Eiderantler by January Scent Project.
I smelled this at Twisted Lily and immediately ordered a decant. Love it! Gorgeous lavender.. not too masculine, good longevity but close to the skin. I think the hay and elemi add a sweetness that really works. Even got a *positive* comment from my husband this morning: “you smell nice…kind of like jasmine” 🙂
No jasmine in the scent at all but, I’ll take the “you smell nice”!
Haha! My Mr. Spicebomb thinks every scent he likes on me is “spicy,” as in “You smell good today, kinda spicy!” ?
I guess we should be grateful they pay attention 😉
That fragrance sounds gorgeous! I’m a big lavender fan and always fond of bay in scents. I may have to seek out a sniff
I recommend it. It’s different and really beautiful.
I really like Eiderantler too. I need to pull my January Scent Project samples out for more wearing.
Sounds good, I’ve just ordered the sample set from January Scent Project, so looking forward to trying Eiderantler.
Hot, hot, hot! 36*C today and I’m melting.
Wore Komorebi from Pierre Guillaume.
Stay cool! Although I would rather be hot then cold
SOTD = Guerlain Habit Rouge Dress Code
I have the 2015 version. I have not smelled the original or the later versions so don’t know how they compare. Mine is sweet and spicy and crunchy rose with a subtle hint of a combination of vanilla and tonka beans. I used 4 sprays today but methinks I can gon3 more and not had me out. Very nice! Nothing to do with the CP but I have a few days to think about it – I love the color combination of the painting!
That variant of Habit Rouge sounds good!
Your description makes this sound very nice indeed!
Oooh I love the original. I bet that one is good too!
As lillyjo said, your description was tempting. And then I looked at the prices. Yikes!
Today’s SOTD is Clarins Eau Ensoleillante – a yellow floral, with linden, mimosa, ylang ylang, chamomile, tonka bean, and patchouli. It’s really nice for today’s warm weather!
Mmm that Clarins sounds like something I might really like. I love yellow florals.
This one is sooo pretty, and very discreet for office wear. I found mine online for $29 about a year or two ago. 🙂
All the talk of Parfum d’Empire from the past few days inspired me to wear Corsica Furiosa today. Thanks Holly for sharing your update from the company.
Yesterday there was a minor (~4.0 magnitude) earthquake in the Cleveland area and I felt it! I was at work when it happened and I could hear the walls in my office settling and felt my desk jerk. So bizarre. I’ve lived in the Great Lakes region my whole life and have never experienced an earthquake before. Any other Northeast Ohioans here who felt it??
You’re welcome!
Oh my goodness! I had no idea there was an earthquake in Cleveland. I felt one in Chicago in 2008 I think, it was surreal.
Corsica Furiosa is a great scent!
I must have been too busy to really pay attention. I have felt a few earthquakes here but always thought it was a semi barrelling down the highway.
I still remember my first earthquake! And that was a long time ago.
I was very surprised to hear about that earthquake on the news today. I’ve been in 3 of them, and 2 were on the East Coast.
I am old enough to have experienced the huge Alaska earthquake of 1964. Okay, I was in Seattle (and in grade school) at the time, but still. It was a 9.2, and definitely noticeable even that far south.
This comment gave me flashbacks to the 7.0 in November here in AK. We had aftershocks in the 4-5 range for the next month!
Wow, I truly can’t imagine! A 4.0 was startling enough.
I was in San Francisco for the 7.3 in 1989. We had huge aftershocks for weeks afterwards as well, which were almost scarier because I was on edge after the big one.
Wearing a sample of Calligraphy Saffron, thanks to the lovely Lisa D.!
Haven’t sniffed that one. How do you like it?
I like it a lot. I’m terrible at describing fragrances, and I’m just dabbing from a sample, too — but I find it warm/spicy/dusty with saffron, which I love; just a hint bitter from marigold; and a little creamy with tonka. It’s not heavily rose/oud-y, either; the others in the Calligraphy line seem to play up those notes.
Nice connection between CP and today’s photo!
Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 89F here. Shoot me now please. Today max is a brisk 85. In my (anti) celebration of summer, I’m in AG Ninfeo Mio, and smelling delicious!
Thanks for all summer-road-trip-support yesterday! I’m stupidly excited and can’t quite believe it’s actually come to fruition.
Smell well y’all! ✌?
We are gonna hit 97F and I am not ready. *puts on stillsuit*
Fear is the mind-killer, Ede!
I am strumming my imaginary baliset in your honor, Marjorie Rose and Ede97005.
All these Dune references made me LOL. Mr. G is a big fan.
I love that there are nerds here.
Hope you can stay cool! And hope the new kayak is fun!
Ha! Just ready to set off to the lake, started putting the paddle together and realized it’s missing a part, which makes it totally unusable. ?
Not only did I spray a fair amount of Osmanthe Yunnan on myself last night, but I also got it on some furniture, including the bed. So I still smell like Osmanthe Yunnan, and so does my room.
I’ll let you know what I try later.
Nice and hopefully nitdetected by the parental units!
I think they realized…
I had washed my arms off before bed, and then I think I tried Ombre Rose at bedtime. I conked out about a minute later, or I might have tried to wash that off before I went to sleep. “I should get up…Zzzz.”
Maybe Green Tea again this evening, or a really light incense.
Uh oh… busted!
I’d be up for a perfumista meet up sometime. I’m also about an hour’s drive away from the Mall at King of Prussia, which offers sniffing opportunities aplenty.
lol, yeah. Once I washed off my arms after lunch, Mom deemed it all faded enough for her to be able to ride in the car with me.
Right now, after a shower, just moisturizing lotion on my hands. Brand called “The Naked Bee,” variety Coconut and Honey. I don’t get much of a scent from it. Just as well.
I’ve been carefully opening the sample vials I offered up, taking a sniff, going, “Whoa, strong!” and putting the caps back on quickly. Then I’m packing them up without regrets, and the thought that I’m saving Dad perhaps 20-30% of his coughing fits, and Mom some undetermined amount of exasperation. lol
King of Prussia is about half an hour away from me in light traffic. I know how to get there. My fear is forgetting where I parked.
I live pretty near Exton, PA, which now has an Ulta and a Sephora in their batch of strip malls, plus the Target with the display of Pacifica fragrances a couple of miles up the road.
I’m sure Philadelphia has much more to offer than Exton in the way of perfumes. I don’t drive in Philadelphia, but I’ll take the train there. We can discuss. 🙂
I wasn’t going to wear any perfume today, since I called in to work sick. I just spritzed a tiny bit of L”ombre dans L’eau though, trying to convince myself that I need that daily lemming bottle. It’s beautiful out today low seventies and sun. I always feel bad when I don’t go to work, but I’ve finally learned to listen to my body, because my head is most of the time wrong, lol.
Sorry yours not feeling well, but good you took the day off! I hope you get to enjoy the weather, at least!
I am thanks! It’s making me feel extra guilty though.
Hope the beautiful day made you feel better quickly.
I am feeling a little better now, and sitting outside getting some vitamin D.
Sorry you are not well lillyjo!
Thank you!
I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t feeling well, but glad that you called out and decided not to tough out the day.
If it was a day shift, I might have gone in. I just didn’t have it in me to work til eleven.
Hope you feel better soon. You’re good to listen to your body! That LdL daily lemming bottle is so pretty!
It really is lovely.
Sometimes you just need a break. Enjoy your freedom and feel better soon!
Thanks!
Greetings from Arakkis! 97F/36C
1) SOTD is Molinard Jasmine after a workout shower in Floris Orange Blossom. Did Pilates super early today due to the heat!
2) Cold Brew coffee over ice + yogurt fruit bowl.
3) I hope my tender herbs are okay. I gave them a deep drink but YIKES.
I love jasmine perfumes in the heat! They just hum along so beautifully. You smell great!
You could maybe give your herbs a few ice cubes to help them beat the heat?
Thank you! I really like the scent of jasmine & orange blossom in the heat.
Ice cubes may be a bit of shock for the plants- but I am thinking I should add more mulch to aid with water loss.
I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to wear earlier this morning, but then remembered AbdesSalaam’s Miele which is described on the website as “Miele is made from beeswax absolute extracted with alcohol from old waxes that have been used by bees for more than five years to store honey.” I find it stunningly beautiful, very bright and clear, and not densely waxy nor too rich/cloying. Then the search for my little decant began, but in the meantime I bumped into April Aromatics Nectar of Love which I dabbed on, thinking maybe I’d be lazy and accept that it’s honey-colored and “Nectar.” It’s quite beautiful, a warm sort of exotic bwf melange, but I wasn’t feeling it. Then I found my Miele, hurray! So that’s on the other arm. All this fiddling about finding dinky samples and decants irks me no end. Just sayin’.
Just sayin’, I completely agree!
Thanks for sharing my sentiment, sunnlit!
By the time I find something, another one gets relocated through all that rummaging and then I end up with more lost than when I started to look for Lost item #1
Oh boy, does that ever sound familiar.
Exactly! I keep a firm hold on my delusion that I’ll get it together and organized to my satisfaction, but the closest I’ve come to doing so is to pretend that it doesn’t exist.
Lol!
Years ago, someone mentioned that her collection of samples and decants was “resting” in a drawer, and I loved that image! I then imagined my own perceived chaotic collection of samples and decants to be calmly drifting in The Sample Sea, and some would drift ashore and I would notice them as the tides brought them in, and others would remain further out beyond my reach and subject to the tides or my concerted efforts to fish for them if I was truly inspired to do so. I seem to believe that I don’t actually aspire to owning more, but the reality is that I really enjoy smelling everything and that adds up to a big load. It’s very rare that I want to own a bottle, or even a large decant, but I do love smelling all the stuff. Sometimes I can relax about it, and at other times it feels totally nuts and The Sample Sea rises up in my consciousness as a tsunami of immense proportions that threaten to obliterate every concept I have of the life I imagined for myself.
Monster movie day. Godzilla. Entertaining. If one likes massive city destruction and fire-breathing / electric bolts flashing from the monsters….
Wearing a scent I got at Parfumerie last year. Grassy, soft. I like it a lot. Skin scent though.
I had a lot of fun watching Godzilla last Saturday. I love a good monster movie and the monsters in this one didn’t disappoint.
It’s definitely a fun one.
Is that that numbered, nameless perfume? I have to look for mine. It went MIA :/
Yes. Thought of you. It’s nice. Mine was MIA for quite awhile.
Sounds like we may have found a name for it after all!
Hah! ??
Heehee!
I chose OJ Frangipani today, which kinda maybe fits the CP. I thought l over applied for work at first because it was SO strong for the first 45 min, but it’s settled in more now. It feels like my Monday since I came in at 1 for a half day yesterday. I may need more coffee than usual today!
You smell great! That one goes on big on me, too, but retreats pretty quickly. Will join you in more coffee!
Waiting for the warmer weather to really arrive and then I’ll join you. So good!
You smell great!
Wearing Amouage Dia today since I haven’t worn it in a while and didn’t know what to wear. I thought of wearing Une Rose Vermeille yesterday and was almost thinking of wearing it again but it lasts so long on my skin to the point of annoying.
You smell wonderful. I also love the men’s Dia
I like longevity in a scent but some of them last TOO long!
I’m sooo tired today. I went to sleep late as it was, and then was woken up at like 3:45 by strange shrieking out back only to find a family of raccoons (mom and 2 kids) climbing over the fence into our yard. Those babies really can scream! They were cute, though ?
I’m in Jour d’Hermes Absolu today which I really love, but it becomes close to the skin so quickly that I can’t smell it much around me.
Hope you have a peaceful rest tonight 🙂
Raccoon babies sound so cute
Thank you! They are super cute.
You’re definitely more forgiving of those raccoons that I would be ha!
I like them. It’s as much wildlife as we get around here.
I know that squirrels can scream, but I didn’t know that raccoons do it, too.
We had a raccoon family leaving above our ceiling in our old apartment and those guys can be really loud. We thought they were birds!

Awe… poor little guy
I didn’t know either one of them screamed!
I hope you sleep well tonight and any unexpected visitors are quiet!
Oh man, I can relate! I have all kinds of wildlife where I live, and they’re out and about squealing and shrieking and growling throughout the night. My cats are inside howling back. I enjoy knowing that these creatures are still around, but it can be exhausting when they consistently keep you awake.
It sounds like the funny farm, in a good way. ? I live in rhe country so we have a lot of wildlife as well. I just turn on my air conditioner and it drowns out those noises.
I have this weird thing where I don’t like that obliterating air conditioner hum that units produce, and central air is an anomaly where I live so I just have those loud boxes that I never use. I kinda like hearing the animals, and I think that it might be a good thing for my cats to comprehend what they’re up against when they go outside which they have always done and still seem to need to do.
I agree about tge air quality but the bedrooms are on the second floor of my okd house. We’ve insulated and put in new windows but it’s hot during summer and cold in winter. I can’t sleep without the AC, unfortunately.
I’m continuing my Ormond Jayne theme in Orris Noir. While I very much like Orris Noir, my choice is very much driven by accessibility. We’re on the last stages of painting and all our furniture and possessions are piled up in the smallest areas possible. We ate dinner standing up last night – the only other option was sitting on the bed 🙂
At least you’re on the last stages!
Eeeeek! I hope that your painting will be done soon, and you can get all your belongings into their proper places.
Orris Noir is great. You smell super good.
Mmm I think Orris Noir is my favorite of the OJs I’ve tried. I doubled up on OJ today – day time was Frangipani and night time is Champaca.
Shalimar Light for me today. It’s really such a beauty. The juice matches that painting even ha! But I mainly wore it just because I wanted to!
Best reason to wear perfume!
Wearing Annick Goutal Chat Perché in the heatwave in San Francisco. It’s nice and refreshing but does not last at all in warm weather. Will put on a few dabs of Hermès Musc Pallida in a bit.
Those temperatures are something else! Any relief in your forecast?
I think it’s supposed to cool down in the next few days. ??
Crossing my fingers for you too! ?
Oil Fiction from JHAG for work, because i wanted some flowery scent. Tuberose, but not too sweet.
Picked the boyfriend up after work for a pizza dinner. Now wearing L’Air de Rien for bed.
I’m wearing Calligraphy Rose from a very generous NST-er and I adore it! It’s a very beautiful rich dark sweet rose with spice and resins. It’s the kind of fragrance that makes you want to bite someone’s wrist (or neck). Fabulous.
You smell marvelous!
I love this biting description!
Back from South Korea, what a great country to visit. Easy transit, great food, nice people. But now I’m jetlagged and hot, so I’m wearing about 15 sprays of Mandarine Basilic as I go outside to mow the lawn. It grew about five inches in nine days!
I love South Korea so much. My dad lives there! So glad you had a good trip!
Welcome back!
It’s a gorgeous late spring/early summer day here. A little sketchy looking in the morning, but things cleared out quite nicely. I bet the guys who were cleaning out my dryer vent appreciated that it wasn’t raining. ???
SOTD = back in Au Coeur du Desert again. The far drydown of it smelled SO GOOD this morning that it was an easy decision to re-spray.
I wish I could let my perfumes make it to the far drydown. I’m always impatient and spray more or something else.
The Tauer perfumes usually last 24 hours on me, so if I apply one morning, it will hang around until I take a shower the next day.
Ha! Me too. I always test something new out on the way home from work. Adds a little something to look forward to during the commute.
Hot, hot, hot weather here today – 100F (38C), that is. Sprayed a tiny bit of Aliage on in the morning, so lightly that it was almost gone within a couple of hours (unusually, as this scent typically has great longevity on me). Went to the cupboard to re-apply, when for some reason I remembered a little sample of Parfum d’Empire Azamour Les Orangers. Now, I disliked this when I first tried it some years ago and hadn’t really sniffed it since, but in this heat – perfect! It came into its own, so to speak, and now I know when to wear it: in intense dry heat.
Sudden thought: or perhaps what I really like is the ALO layered over a faint hint of Aliage?
Try it again on fresh skin so you know for sure.
That’s my plan for tomorrow.
Another crazy busy work day but I had Cartier Carat for company.
I hope you get a break from the crazy soon!
Thanks Lillyjo. It goes from being extremely busy to insanely busy from April through mid January. I’ve been there 25 years and I’m tired of it. Every summer and Christmas, it’s the same. Retirement is starting to look really good.
Time to break out your “Keep Calm and Carry On” perfumes!
Right! Hmmm… A little hint?
Do you have any No. 19, or Cristalle? Chypres and dry greens have a calming effect for me.
Incense is also a calming scent for me. Not sure how work friendly that would be, though.
Yes, I have both! Thanks for those suggestions.
It’s a beautiful morning (late morning!) here on the central coast of California.
The heat wave has broken, at least it has for us!
I am wearing Trefle Pur on one arm and ‘a scent by issay miyake’ on the other arm.
Surrounded by citrusy-flowery green loveliness! Yum!
