It's Monday, and if you're in the US, Memorial Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a drop of CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.
Reminder: on 5/31, for World No Tobacco Day, compensate by wearing something smoky (it doesn't have to smell like tobacco in particular).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m ushering in summer with Un Jardin Sur le Nil, one of the many, many perfumes that every time I wear it, I wonder why I don’t wear it more often. So good! Enjoy your day, everyone.
Scent twins!!!
Un Bois Vanille, so as not to asfixiate the lash lady this morning.
That is lash extensions? How long do they last?
This weekend has been gorgeous. We’re finally getting warm weather. I’m celebrating today with a deluxe pedi. SOTD is Lumiere Blanche.
Have been thinking of a pedi myself. So happy you’re getting warm weather and sunshine!!?
Thanks Deva. Almost sorry to spend time indoors on a beautiful day but it’s been too cokd for sandals until now.
Ugh. Our “middle child” cat decided I didn’t need to sleep in this morning. Ever since we moved to the new house, he’s discovered he can talk to us from the other side of the bedroom door and eventually, he gets company. Sweet little thing.
So, no SOTM, yet, other than coffee breath. (Charming, I know.)
On a fragrant note, friend sent me a get-well bouquet of “rose lillies,” and they are fragrant and powerful enough to scent the entire main floor of the house. It’s lovely! (Of course, our littlest fur-child is curious about them, so they must live on a high shelf where he can’t explore them orally. Tell me, why do I have cats?)
Because having small bundles of warm furriness around the house brings you joy, despite their annoying behavior. I will remind you of this again, early tomorrow morning.
? Thanks, I look forward to the reminder tomorrow morning. ?
Yawning with you. Our ‘only child’ cat is on a diet, which is No Fun for any of us. One of the main features is that he starts begging for food at dark o’clock. A few days ago he discovered that if he applies claws to curtains that will get me up Right D*** Now. >.< Time to deploy an automated feeder so that maybe, just maybe, we can sleep til the alarm clock goes off.
Our middle child is of the the belief that he is always starving. I bought a Super Feeder automated pet feeder, and it has been a wonderful purchase! Now he can “explain” to the magic food machine his feelings of neglect instead of to us. (He sits underneath it, licking the empty bowl. It’s really pathetic.)
I’m no help on the drapes issue, though. That would get me up asap as well!
This reminds me of an old cartoon of a fake ad for a fail-safe alarm clock: “Sound of Two Cats Upchucking”.
Yuck!
Our new house has floors that are 98% hardwood/ laminate and 2% carpet (only in a few closets). While the sweeping will never end, at least *that* job of cleaning up after kitties has gotten easier.
Really?? Our old apartment was all fake hardwood except for two rugs. Our cats would always seek out the rugs to throw up on! Yours seem slightly more considerate 🙂
Wearing Mimosa Pour Moi, one of the best spring and summer soliflores I can think of.
You smell lovely!
Hello on another monday.
I thunked my sample of Grandiflora Magnolia Michel. It’s pretty and I could use a 10 ml decant to keep me going for a little bit longer.
Another brand that needs travel sizes!
Good morning!
Started out working towards Friday’s smoky scents with Demeter “Campfire.” It seems pretty accurate.
Went commando perfume-wise for an afternoon barbeque a friend invited me to. I did bring some flowers for the family to enjoy. I saw someone mention “Colette” below. During the week I experimented with the HdP discovery set and other samples, “Colette,” “Casanova” and 1969 were the ones I liked a lot. I didn’t get around to trying the ones that said they had smoky notes. This may be a good week for that.
Ah, I have never tried that one!
You mean “Campfire”? Surrender to Chance had a “get three Demeter samples for $5” deal, and I ended up getting six samples. I’m looking forward to trying “Chai Tea” — I’m still on my trying tea fragrances kick, also. 🙂
I don’t want to alarm the folks by making my room smell very smoky, so on decent days I’ll probably go outside to try the colognes and perfumes with smoky notes.
They didn’t say much about the incense perfumes when I was trying those. They recognized that there was some sort of scent, but didn’t seem to recognize a particular floral note to latch onto for commentary. And a couple of times I wore the incense perfumes to dinners at the church they attend, thinking it might just blend in. lol It didn’t blend with the general smell of the church, per se, but it didn’t clash with the food.
Anyway, have a good night!
Yes, I meant the campfire. I have tried a lot of Demeter, but it’s a huge line.
Ah, stealth incense!
If their church were High Church, I probably would have blended in by smelling like incense. It’s I guess more “Middle”? Candles, yes. Wine, yes. Incense, not really. The church Mom’s mother attended did incense fairly frequently, and sometimes chanting. Also the church had stained glass. More towards High Church.
(The churches in question are Episcopalian churches. The Episcopal Church was a branch of the Anglican Communion for quite some time, but was too rebellious — or whatever. I know very little about the politics and such.)
Stealth never really seems to happen for me. lol. I guess I get an “I tried” pin? 😉
Morning, all. I hope those of you with long weekends are having a nice one.
I’m at work today, even though my job is mostly calling vendors who will be closed today. I guess I have some paperwork to catch up on, but not 8 hours worth. I’ll see about doing a half day.
SOTD is Angel Eau Sucree.
You smell marvelous. I purchased this fragrance also but willingly surrendered it to my youngest daughter when she fell in love with it too!
I don’t know how old she is, but I can only assume I wasn’t smelling so good at her age ?
Slept for 10 glorious hours
No pets, children or partner to disturb me.
Going to gym after shower
And then home to pack the safari duffle.
Must…
Do…
This…
I think one of the Chanel Eaux today. I love them all and am looking forward to the release of Riviera at the end of the week.
Safari!! ? I’m so far out of the loop I didn’t even know there was a new release coming up…
I’m looking forward to that Chanel release too!
Have an AWESOME time on safari! Our trip to Kenya & Tanzania over 10 years ago is still one of our most favorite trips. Just amazing.
Hope you enjoy that trip! 🙂
SOTM is SSS Pacific Forest. I’m being very lazy this morning, but must gather the wherewithal to go pull more gigantic prickly weeds in the back yard, and eventually go for my Monday evening workout. First, though, more coffee and a crossword duel with Mr. G.
You smelled great pulling those weeds SheriG!
Loved reading the scrubber poll over the weekend. I agreed with many “hates” and am also someone who developed a sensitivity to Encre Noir after buying the Mr a bottle PLUS two back up bottles. Now he loves it and I really can’t stand it when he wears it! SOTD is ELDO Like This from a sample. I like it, but don’t need a full bottle.
Oh that’s too bad about the EN! I did something similar with Mr. Spicebomb. I had him sample Dans Tes Bras years back, and he loved it. So he bought a bottle a week before his birthday, for which *I’d* bought him a bottle. . . so now he has two. And sometimes, the scent of it REALLY grates on my nerves. But I could never tell him! My plan is to buy him something new every few years, so that it gets less play in the rotation.
That’s too funny. Dans Te Bras was on my buy list forever, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. Read ClaireV’s review on Basenotes and she mentioned harsh cleaning products and I suddenly knew that the drydown was what bothered me. In one of those strange coincidences I bought John Galliano blind as someone mentioned violet iris, and it is a dead ringer for Dans Te Bras. Just its softer, more demure sister. Still violets and dirt, but incense in stead of musk.
I think it’s the musk that bugs me–but it’s an odd scent! I’m surprised to hear there’s another that feels similar. More demure would be welcome. ?
ISO E Super ruined many fragrances for me. Encre Noir, Terre d’Hermes and there is also some in Tauer Phi but I will endure it in this fragrance because I only can detect it when I first spray it on, then the glorious rose takes over and I am fine.
Also, Encre Noir has a gorgeous bourbon note in the opening. I miss that……
I am in Jardin Sur le Nil and we are at Arlington National Cemetery. We just missed the Memorial Day event, but it is beautiful and moving to be here.
I will be there on June 19th for a little ceremony for my Dad, who is at long last, coming to rest in Arlington.
Oh, nice.
Our town had a parade to the local cemetery but I hurt my foot and did not go this year.
Just put up the pergola and brought up the patio furniture today. Now it’s off to work. Wearing Rose Flash today.
Right on time for summer! You smelled great.
I’m looking forward to a week of smoky perfumes and am kicking this week off in Bvlgari Black. Robin’s masterpiece of weird. It is a strange perfume but immensely wearable as well.
You smell heavenly. I must confess, I have three backup bottles…..
Yum!!
Sampling today. Looks like the sun may even break thru the fog! Nice, after it rained all day yesterday.
Hope you ended up getting some sun, Pixel.
I could do smoky scents for a month. 🙂
SOTD is Tiziana Terenzi Ecstasy. Spoky woody.
I could too, but maybe in October instead of May/June?
Agree. Or November.
Maison Margiela’s Under the Lemon Trees. Citrus, dust, and woody perfection!
You must smell dreamy.
The LM Vanille Gourmande I wore last night was so strong that it was still really present this morning. So I put Mona di Orio’s smoky, boozy Vanille on top of it. Not really weather appropriate since we’re going to reach 78 today, but I do smell great. Getting some chores done here and there while my boyfriend starts cooking a pork, veggie, apple cider vinegar stew in the crock pot.
That stew sounds delicious!
I don’t have a lot of smoky perfumes, but I do have a few incensey things – that seems close. I’ll be wearing my new purchase of CdG’s Ouarzazate.
Incense is smoky, in my opinion. They burn it.
I was in Chicago for the Basenotes meetup and I must have smelled 50 new-to-me fragrances, maybe more. I discovered I like peony as a note! My fellow fumeheads were wonderful, and there were a fair number of men who contributed much to my knowledge. Hermes Bel Ami and Reflection Man are future purchases. Having so much perfume already, I tried to buy smaller sizes, but when it’s love, it’s love, so I got:
7.5ml Hermes Cedre Sambac
30ml Parfums de Marly Delina (I bought the travel spray set.)
125ml Parfums de Marly Oajan, one of their “masculine” fragrances that smells amazing on me. Cinnamon, honey, osmanthus, benzoin, yum.
200ml Dior Cuir Cannage that I’m splitting with another Basenoter. It’s discontinued and we got the last bottle they had.
Donatella will be so proud of me this quarter!
There’s also a sample/decant swap with the group, so I brought a shoebox full and thankfully came home with a sandwich-sized Baggie full, so that went well.
Having a lazy day and wearing one of the samples, Parfumerie Generale Louanges Profane. I might need a bottle of this, too.
Oh what fun! Congrats on all your new things.
Oajan sounds very tempting — is the osmanthus noticeable?
I can smell it, but Oajan is mostly cinnamon and honey on me. The honey is a little skanky but not urinous.
Thanks!
SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne
My Chanel Mondays continue. Found an almost empty bottle of new-ish Chanel Eau de Cologne at an estate sale. It’s lovely, the best Eau de Cologne in the world at the most exorbitant price ever. A full bottle would be fantastic. When this second-hand bottle is empty I’d like to fill it with 4711 just for laughs.
Enjoy your Monday, everyone! I’m sending tender thoughts to those who are remembering loved ones today.
Oh, nice find even if it wasn’t full!
Not only am I at work, but we are interviewing for a new position. Chanel No.19 would have been more than pleased to march in and assume command, but instead I chose Bas de Soie, an office scent more in the line of “Now now, it’s okay, I am sure Monday will be just fine”.
Which is pretty much what a Monday scent should say!
Caron pour un Homme for bed. I am on holidays in alsace, so i only brought three scents. The village of Eguisheim is really lovely, and not overly touristic. And storks!
I love the area around Alsace and Les Vosges. There were still quiet places to enjoy….and storks!
Eguisheim is lovely. I’m also very fond of Kaisersberg and Riquewihr.
If you have any spare time, both Colmar and especially Strasbourg are worth a visit.
Enchanted Forest Vagabond Prince (Betrand Duchaufour) , a sweet blend of currant and fir’resin. Courtesy of Gaynor. The thing I like about this perfume is that the fir isn’t too fresh – so to me it’s less about bright green needles than sweetish resin. Almost a hint of apricot.
We tried the Prosody range the other day and they were quite rich for natural perfumes. I might go back and test some more.
I’m wearing HdP 1873 (Colette) again. It’s a happy and refreshing citrusy upbeat yet sensual scent that feels appropriate for yet another hot humid do-nothing day. I did go shopping but failed again to find the perfect small dangle rose gold earrings of my dreams. Well, at least the challenge keeps me going. I love smokey perfumes, though not ones with tobacco, and am looking forward to Friday.
I would like to have a travel spray of the Colette, it really is happy.
I saw something out of the ordinary earlier today. Two fighter jets were flying over my neighborhood. I had noticed that the airplane noise was louder than usual, and happened to be outside at the right time to see that these were not the usual planes headed over to the Philly airport. It was kind of cool. ✈✈
SOTD = back in vintage Femme again today. It’s been a wonderful choice for the whole weekend.
Those things are shockingly LOUD! I wonder if the pilots wear ear protection.
Today is cool and rainy where I am, and AG Mandragore just felt right, so that is my SOTD.
Ah, I should wear that soon.
I am in the USA. I give my respect to those who sacrificed for their country and regards to their families.
I worked today, though it was light due to the holiday. I worse Moscow Mule by Juliette Has a Gun, out of a sample. But what I really smell like is a lot of samples from Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works. I got some badly needed new bras on my lunch break and ended up sniffing and trying a lot of lotion samples. The body oils were tempting too but too messy. I had not been in VS in years and the whole fragrance section has morphed to take up 1/4 of the store. Picked up some lotion there and a refill on shower gel at BBW that I use for the bath water.
Yes…I was wondering what percentage of total sales at VS is now represented by the beauty. I suspect variations on Bombshell are funding the whole enterprise 🙂
It was a bank holiday here too, which was very welcome. I still smell this evening of Emeraude which was my SOTD, the green opaque plastic bottle is really cool, it reminds me of the similar but blue vintage bottle Youth Dew comes in. Today, Emeraude reminded me much more of Must de Cartier rather than Shalimar it is often compared too.
