Happy National Margarita Day! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with lime or salt or both. (PSAs: the Rosine giveaway is still open, and the splitmeet is tomorrow.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I don't smell like a margarita, but points for salt in Paco Rabanne Olympéa.
Reminder: on 3/1, wear a fragrance by Floris, Fragonard or Frapin, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter F.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2019, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Dior Dune for its salty vibe.
Happy Friday everyone!
Great choice 🙂
Thanks! ?
Dang it! I could have worn Dune! Great pick??
?! Next time! You smell great in Bottega Veneta though! ?
I so wish I had thought of that; you smell great.
Thank you! I guess nobody pays attention to Dune anymore these days, myself included. Still a good one though! ?
I’ve never tried Dune, but I hear about it a lot on YouTube. Sounds GOOD! I’ll give it a sniff next time I’m in the mall…I see Macy’s carries it….
It is a salty, citrusy amber perfume. A creamy oriental. I consider this a classic which is worth trying.
I love Dune. Never thought of it as salty though. I’ll look for that note next time!
It is beautiful!
Nice pick! I didn’t think of Dune…
?
I, too, love Dior Dune but I also have never gotten a salty vibe from it. Will have to look for it next time I wear it!
You might get that salty vibe in warmer temps. Give it a try then, however what our noses get are so different sometimes.
Love Dune! TGIF ?
It is one of those perfumes that need a place in your collection. So beautiful!
Oh, you smell lovely! I adore Dune. It’s a shapeshifter, the salt notes come out more in warmer weather on my skin.
Thank you! ?. Definitely it is saltier in summer time. Right now, the amber is the note that stands out the most.
Hmm, never thought of it as salty, but will have a spritz later today to see if I can smell it.
I would not say it is a salty fragrance. Please, report back if you can smell that note.
Good one!
?
Dior Dune is the ultimate summer scent for me.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the NST World….I do believe I have nailed the margarita in perfumery! Happy FriYAY!!!!
1 spray of Atelier Pacific Lime on each wrist, followed by 1 spray of Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt on each wrist. Spray shirt with 1 additional spray of Pacific Lime. Bada boom bada bing! 🙂
I do love a good margarita…but believe it or not, I do NOT like too much tequila in mine. I’m more about the lemon/lime zing and a bit of salt on the rim! Cheers….
Wow. That is some layering! And yes, I’d say you nailed it. 🙂
Super!?
I think you succeeded in creating the margarita better than I did. Well done!
I bet you smell amazing!
Excellent ?
You win! 😉
Nice layering job!
I think a lot of cocktails are tastier with less alcohol. Egg nog, in my opinion, should have no alcohol at all!
Totally agree! If a drink is too alcoholic, it takes away from the flavor…
Probably depends on the reason for the drink though! LOL
PS: Eggnog punch that is amazing….Pour carton of eggnog over orange sherbet (in punch bowl). Add 2 liter of ginger ale. GOOD STUFF….
That sounds fabulous. I’ll have to try it!! Where does one find Eggnog during the off season?
Alas, no eggnog around here until late October….unless you want to make your own! (Sounds like too much work for me!) LOL
Pssst, you know there’s a word for that: “limeade”.? Anyway, excellent scent cocktailing!
In the salty (to my nose anyway) Guaiac Wood & Juniper from Yves Rocher.
Just looked this up on the Yves Rocher website, it sounds good. I haven’t shopped there in years and I forgot how many nice products they carry, the men’s fragrance line is especially nice.
They do some really good stuff and reasonably priced.
I’m in JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt. A bit on the nose (so to speak) perhaps, but it’s lovely and I didn’t sleep well and am not ready for challenges quite yet. It’s Friday, though, so … yay!
Twins 🙂
Triplets!
I’m wearing Batucada, which is lime and salt but which is supposed to represent a Caipirinha, not a Margarita.
Pretty darned close!
Close enough!
Twin!
Channeling summer in Nicolai L’Eau d’Ete. I have a sample of this from my shop visits last summer. The lime note is quite persistent, in a good way. I think it would be excellent chilled in the fridge on a hot summer day.
Yep, you smell great.
No cp points for me, but I’m happy with the way I smell in Herba Fresca.
May your cares be fewer and your burdens lighter, NST.
Yum, and thank you for the good wishes, I need them today?
Thank you, FearsMice. My colleague’s father just died, so I’m feeling kind of down (never met him, I’m just sad for her), so your kind wish is helping 🙂
Thank you FearsMice, I needed that kind thought today.
FearsMice, am having a not great day, so I will join the others with a thanks for your note of kindness.
Cold and sad today. SOTD is incensio on one arm and city on fire on the other. As Jimi said…somebodies house is burning down….
Appreciating the good wishes! Thank you FearsMice!
Good thoughts to you as well, FearsMice.
I was inspired by Elisa P’s wearing an orange blossom perfume early this week, so I am in L’Eau des Sens so no points for me.
Chai tea
Ciao!
Happy to inspire ? I like Eau des Sens
Wearing Nicolai Vanille Tonka today, my favorite vanilla. Just love the quirky lime note in the opening.
Ah, yes. I still love this as well.
Twins! Had to dig to find my bottle- guess I need to wear it more. Love the dry down, yum 🙂
I tried to make my own margarita by layering JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt with Escentric 03. But I think Escentric is not limey enough. Still, I smell nice!
Sounds like a great combo! I wish I had added something lemony to my combo, but any more sprays and I would have smelled like I was stumbling in from a binge….LOL!
Add something lemony later – who will judge you on a Friday night? 😀
I think my combo smells like fresh vetiver with ginger and salt, not lime and salt. Kind of like relaxing in a forest on the seashore. But I am still happy with the result.
That sounds like a good combo to me!
I would have *sworn* that the fascinating, genuinely weird Rochas Byzance had lime in it, but checking the various lists of notes, I find it’s nowhere to be seen. Whatever. It has a brilliant, fresh-green aldehydic citrus top, and that’s good enough for me. There’s never a wrong time to be wearing vintage Byzance anyway.
You smell fantastic!
My plan was to wear edm bleu, but I found my Sephora sample evaporated. I couldn’t think of anything else in a hurry so I grabbed Bottega Veneta for work today. I’m enjoying the sunshine before the storm ?
Another storm??? ?
Yes, rain to snow to forty/fifty mile wind starting Sunday through Monday. Are trees are so fragile because of all the ice, that the high winds will be particularly dangerous. Crossing my fingers again that we keep power.
Oh no! Stay safe and warm. We will have heavy rain on Sunday instead. I hope no snow shows up any time soon.
Oh, no! Sounds bad. Hunker down and be safe!
We are supposed to have rain tonight, turning into snow. Ugh. Under a winter weather advisory. I have to laugh, when I moved to NM everyone in Alabama chastised me and said I was going to burn up in the desert, but here I am experiencing more snow than I ever have in my life!
Stay safe KellyC!
How high up are you, elevation-wise KellyC? That was always the big thing to remember when I lived out West.
Jalapeño, so true. Albuquerque is over 5000 feet so it’s considered high desert. When I moved out here though I think most people envisioned it being like Phoenix or something.
Ugh…. apparently what I’m expecting is called a bomb cyclone. Are you kidding me winter!?
Oh! The East Coast was clobbered by one of those last winter, I think. It has to do with how quickly the storm strengthens.
Holy cow! Stay safe and warm!
Forgot to mention that you are smelling gorgeous in Bottega Veneta lillyjo!
If I really wanted to do a Margarita tribute, I’d have worn something daring and bold last night that I’d be regretting this morning… But I went with the sample with a lime note I most wanted to test, Miller & Bertaux’s ,in. ,in, whose name I plan to type as many times as possible just for perverse amusement, is a wood pudding with just a hint of lime. The opening of ,in reminded me so much of the mourned Silver Factory that I got all excited only to read that they have almost no notes in common, and ,in’s getting much less Silver-Factory like as it dries down and declares it’s a wood through and through. Not a wish list item, but nice for today.
What a peculiar name. It sounds yummy to me. M&B are odd.
Hahaha! I like your interpretation of the margarita experience.
Oh, how tequila and I do not get along (although I do love Margaritas…).
I call Tequila ‘Mind-eraser”.
Seriously, I’m with you on the ‘not getting along’ with Tequila.
I discovered at a young age that tequila makes me mean. So, none for me, thanks, even if I won’t remember it tomorrow.
I so cheated on this one. I put a tiny spritz of OJ Frangipani on my wrist and then doused myself in Mon parfum chéri par Camille. Because that is what I really wanted to wear. It’s wonderful and one of my “darkest” fragrances.
Tea was MF Earl Grey Provence, one of my favourite MF teas.
Mon Parfum Cheri par Camille is a real beauty, I don’t blame u for being distracted!
I don’t wear it that often but sometimes I crave
its earthy plums.
I initially read this as earrhy purrs and wondered what that was!
I’ll keep an ear out for earthy purrs 😉
It’s the noise Eartha Kitt makes…
I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles. It’s CP appropriate but I would have worn it today no matter what the CP was. I really love this perfume.
Have a great Friday!!
Twins!
I’m not wearing EdM today but it’s definitely my favorite salty-vibe scent. Great choice!
I love that one too. You smell fab.
Me too! I propose to Hermes that they create the flanker Eau des Merveilles Verte. Plenty of Lime and a touch of Bergamot in place of the Orange, coriander seed instead of pepper, linden blossom and the same woody/saltiness of the original. In a sparkling green bottle please!
Seconding your proposal.
Haha! Thank you Laurels!
No CP points for my scent today (PG Querelle) but I stuck with my resolution of having a margarita each night while I’m here in TX. Last night was a mango margarita. The winner this week remains the pomegranate one I had on Tuesday, though 🙂
I had a dream last night that I was searching thru my purse for a sample of PG Bois Naufrage. The more I dug, the more samples I found rattling around in the bottom of my purse, ha! And yes I found the Bois Naufrage, which I spritzed, and then I went into a Halloween funhouse, don’t ask me what THAT means…
Woot woot! Heading home later today!
The pomegranate and mango both sound good…brb, arranging a margarita date for after work!
Perfume dreams are the best! My favorite margarita ever was a tamarind one…
My favorite margarita was so good I don’t remember what it was ?
LOL!
Wow! I think that you are anticipating the solit-meet tomorrow!
And maybe that you didnt get your fIr share of Valentines chocolate, hemce the Halloween reference! 😉 jk
Either that or you & tequila makes you crazy!! ???
That margarita resolution is a resolution I can really get behind lol.
A mango margarita sounds great right now! I’ve had some with lime & fresh jalapeno slices that I rather liked. ??
FM Eau de Magnolia for its citrus and salted flowers. I think it passes…
Good one!
Good call. I did’t think of it either.
Tiare has lime in it, you say? Spritzing away…
You smell gorgeous!
Lovely.
You smell perfect.
Sorry, not participating in the cp.
Because today my bottle of Au delà Narcisse arrived. ???And of course I needed to wear this!
It only took a week for my package to travel from San Francisco to The Netherlands. I was pleasantly surprised.
Though I remember the Zoologist samples from Canada arrived even faster .
Have a great weekend.
Weather forecast says it will be very sunny here….I am not complaining!
You Smell Magnificent JiJi!
Thank you! 🙂
Ooh enjoy!
Nice! I wore it yesterday and was pondering a bottle since my decant is dwindling. Enjoy!
And my husband said ” I very strongly don’t hate it” when I asked if he liked it. That’s as positive as it gets, lol.
I need to remember that line!
Its beautiful isnt it? For me its worth every penny + overseas shipping, because it has everything i love in a gorgeous combo.
Narcissus is in my top 3 of flowerscents I love + yummy oakmoss (duh of course its yummy) + the gorgeous ambery drydown (is that labdanum? i dont see it mentioned but it smells like it…)
You smell great! ??
Thank you!
MPG Bahiana for lime-ish. I really like it, but wow, it’s light on me. Maybe it would last longer in warm weather? It’s 39 F but felt much colder as I walked the pup (13.5 year old pup!) with an icy wind here in Seattle. Take me to the tropics, Bahiana!
I liked that one but have not smelled in years! Wonder if it projects better in heat & humidity.
I think Bahiana needs warm weather.
Most of my citruses are in a box tucked into a cabinet waiting for warmer weather . . .so not participating today–in Knowing. This version from a mini that maybe turning. Ah well.
Cooking class update: Well, I learned something about myself. I prefer to cook with people who are funny. Chef was happy to witter away ad nauseam about himself but not in a fun or funny or engaging way–sort of as a task and a favor to us because, you know, he knew we were really curious/not really. It was my first cooking class ever, and so I was interested in how the class was run (demonstrating cooking vs participating in cooking–he had us all chopping, boiling, baking away) and who shows up at these things. The food itself was fine, but as you might expect with about 90 minutes to prepare soup, salad, main dish, and dessert, it was hardly high French: Onion soup (but with honey–his own twist), curly endive salad with poached egg, pork loin in mustard and herbs, and a tarte tatin–all things we prepare in our home with some regularity. My husband found the chef so lacking in charm and humor, he is a bit put off taking another cooking class (and while the tarte tatin was very good last night, my husband’s is out of this world). I’d like to try another class some time, with a different chef. If the class were perfume, it would be Joy, but by Dior.
ouch 😀
You smell awesome!
Sorry that the cooking class was a disappointment. I hope you find a class with a better chef.
You made me laugh! I think your comments could be described as “acerbic”, and not many people succeed at that. I once attended a cooking course by a British and a French chef. The British guy had me in knots over all my technical incompetencies (“poor knife skills”), but the French guy was a self-deprecating sweetie. When asked “how many onions, how many carrots, etc” he would shrug and say: “depends how big they are” or “you decide, you cook for what you like”.
Very interesting, thanks for the report!
Had never thought about it but makes me think a 90 minute cooking class should cover ONE unusual / hard to cook item.
“Joy, but by Dior”. ???
I’ve smelled the Dior Joy on people, and to me it is pretty, but I’ve already seen it and done it– Kind of like the cooking class!
Lol.
Ha! Well, kudos for trying. Agree, it’s strange to make a whole meal in 90 min.
That last sentence really does make this a scathing indictment 🙂 Inquiring minds want to know: How did the honey do in the onion soup? And what makes your husband’s tarte tatin so amazing? Tarte tatin is always great, but I’d love to learn tips to make mine even tastier!
I thought it was okay–it was combined with vinegar–so more like a sweet and sour soup you’ll find in Asian cooking. I use that sweet/sour combo frequently in my cooking as quick way to get flavor. But, it is not French onion soup. The caramelized onions should be sweet enough for that on their own, and the cider vinegar is a cheap shot at brightness, sherry should be enough for this classic dish (despite how this sounds, I am not a snob about cooking in the least, but sweet and sour soup is not French onion soup–word!)
My husband is the tarte tartin baker in the household. His turn out sticky with caramelized sugar, and the juice from the apples bakes into the buttery pastry (no sugar in the pastry)!
We’ve taken classes at Sur la Table that were fun.
I’m going to look into what is happening locally. While we’ve never taken a cooking class, until this one, my husband enjoys catching a cooking tv show when he can. His favorite recent offering was Samin Nosrat’s Salt Fat Acid Heat–which has a sort of science-y title, but she is all warmth, humor, stories, and very useful information.
I really enjoyed that show.
Dang it, I hate the chef was that self-absorbed!
Enjoyable review, even if the class was not 🙂 I actually attended a cooking demonstration last night as well. The teacher and the space were great, but I didn’t care for the main dish, which was healthy Mac n cheese made with butternut soup rather than white cheese sauce.
Well, duh! Health Mac N Cheese… snort! (Although, now that I think of it, I do sometimes cook ricotta ravioli and serve it in a thick squash soup . . .)
That is a bummer about the self-absorbed chef. If you decide to brave another cooking class, I hope it will be much better thought out than that one.
You smell wonderful!!
Why thank you!
I raided my son’s collection – I’m wearing Guerlain Homme, which has a noticeable lime note. Very nice but I think it smells better on him.
Ah, good call though!
I miss raiding my son’s scents, but regularly do my husband’s so that works haha
Participating in MCG Hanbury today, which doesn’t smell limey to me, but Fragrantica lists a lime note, so there you go.
It does have a lime jots so it counts. Glad you’re still enjoying Hanbury!
Yes, thanks again! It’s a comforting scent.
I am in Mary Greenwell Lemon today. It has some lime, along with all of the lemon, plus some other citrus, too.
You smell good. Love MG Lemon.
You smell great! I love Lemon! Too bad her fragrances were discontinued and nowhere to be found 🙁
Doing lime paired with vanilla in Sylvaine Delacourte Valkyrie. It’s got other fresh and herbaceous notes liked basil, bergamot, and spearmint. I like it very much.
I’ve been meaning to post about sniffing the full line of Love Beauty & Planet shampoos at Target last Saturday. I’d like to re-sniff some because it’s easy to get smell fatigue sniffing so many, but the standouts to me were Indian Lilac & Clove Leaf and Murumuru Butter & Rose. The absolutely-no-way one was Turmeric & Tonka. It smelled way too much like coooking spices. I brought home a bottle of Indian Lilac & Clove Leaf but haven’t started using it yet. I also smelled the Pantene Rosewater that was a daily lemming a couple weeks ago. It just smelled shampooey to me and not at all like roses.
Please do report on how the shampoo performs, I have fine hair that tends to go flat, always looking for something that won’t weigh it down.
Will do, however, I have the opposite hair. Mine is thick and tends to have volume naturally.
I have fine hair and use a couple of Bumble & Bumble shampoos that have worked rather well. The downside is that they are on the pricey side.
I tried the Bumble & Bumble volumizing shampoo, the first time was great, then after using it three times, it felt like it was building up on my hair and making it flat and heavy. Maybe I need to alternate different shampoos. I was using Lush Daddy-O for a long time but it started making my hair flat again too. Very frustrating.
Sounds like maybe a clarifying shampoo would be a good idea. I don’t have any recommendations for one of those.
Daddy-O is so great; I love the scent, but if can be a bit drying. I tend to regularly interchange my shampoos all the time with Joico hydrating shampoo, Johnson’s Baby shampoo and Neutrogena clarifying among others.
You can also maybe try adding a bit of baking soda to your shampoo to clarify. I just add a 1/2 teaspoon in my palm to the first shampoo then usually condition just the ends of my hair, as it can get weighted down with all the products I have to use.
Plus, having someone who can cut my hair is a god-send! She gets it! Took me a long time to find her.
Maybe a shampoo that purports to strengthen rather tha volumize would be worth a try. It isn’t a fancy shampoo, but I enjoy the Garnier Whole Blends Honey Treasure. I also saw the newish Aveeno shampoos, and there is one in a green bottle that smells lovely to my nose and is supposed to help thicken hair. I passed it up for that reason, but my friend reminded me that sometimes shampoo is shampoo. They don’t often do for hair what they say they will do.
Joining the many who are wearing Eau de Merveilles today. I usually only wear this in the evening, at parties (I think I once got a somewhat racy compliment wearing it, and so I’ve decided it fits into the “sultry” category). But today, as I was walking across my kids’ school campus, a teacher said “someone smells good here” – so maybe it’s just a compliment-getter no matter what time of day!
Wow, I never think of that one as sultry- just pretty. I’m dying to know the compliment now!
Oh, it wasn’t anything naughty, but it was the setting (late, party, opposite gender, etc. – probably really tame for most people 🙂
Congrats on the compliment! I’ve also never thought of EdM being ‘sultry,’ but we all smell – and wear – fragrances differently so
i always find it interesting to read others’ reactions. EdM is one of my favorite warm-weather casual daytime scents.
Happy Friday all! SOTD is Tiempe Passate by Antonia’s Flowers. 🙂
You smell beautiful. Treasure your bottle, as I believe Antonia’s Flowers is done, for now. ?
Oh no! I had no idea…. That makes me incredibly sad.
I just received an email. They are on hiatus. But they have some other scents still available for purchase.
Thanks for confirming Flopper, Tiempe Passat is the one I’ve always adored. Might search for a bottle this weekend.
Drat.
Wearing Etat Libre D’Orange Fils de Dieu both for its lime note and for the coconut that gives it the summer vibe of margarita weather.
I never thought of myself as the kind of person who would love perfumes with notes of coconut, bubblegum and popcorn but it turns out that I do. My perfume explorations have revealed all sorts of hidden superficialities.
Had no idea FdD had lime! I guess I should pay more attention to notes… you smell amazing! ??
I thought of that too, but decided otherwise. Good choice!
Hello scent twin! ?
Finally getting points for the CP in Épice Marine. Well…I don’t really smell the salt, but it’s marine. So.
Is anyone else enjoying the Jeopardy! All Star Tournament?? We are watching it devotedly! Like, leaving work early to watch it. Seriously. I just wish they were an hour long, so we could have a complete game each day :-/
Ha! My husband is. I only watched the 1st night.
Not watching that Jeopardy tournament. I watched the first night, and that was it.
Uh oh, not a fan??
My Dad was just telling me how much he’s enjoying the tournament. I’ll have to catch up with it.
You Or Someone Like You!!!
CP SoTD!!
You smell wonderful.
I am wearing Madhat Limed today, from a tiny perfumery run by a guy in Chicago. Lime + sandalwood, what’s not to like? I discovered him on Basenotes.
Plus, I am getting a new haircut. I was growing out a pixie but it’s driving me crazy so I’m going for a Halle Berry ragged crop.
Great choice! I am growing out a pixie too and it is driving me batty. But it’s looked so bad for so long I’ve just given up and am going to persist until I get the long bob I’m waiting for. Would love to see a photo of your new hairdo!
Wearing Mojito Chypre today, which is the wrong m drink but does contain lime. I also sprayed some Salty Flowers on when I visited Sephora yesterday which, thanks to scent glue skin, is still there post-shower
Hmm, who is Salty Flowers by?
Viktor and Rolf
No CP points today. Wearing Silences, inspired by Jalapeno yesterday.
I really like this one, and can never smell the likeness with no 19, but have only smelled the modern version of the Chanel.
Sometimes with perfume comparisons it’s more of a similarity in feel rather than smell with me.
Silences is good stuff!
For the CP I dug out my Lolita Lempicka L l’Aime from the perfume chest on the balcony, it’s lime and coconut and working a treat today with the sunny and warm weather. It really is a nice little number with the lime lasting well into wearing and when summer comes I must wear it more.
Oh, good call, wish I’d thought of that one.
Thank you Robin, it flies under the radar, it’s such a fun perfume.
I wish I was participating…lots of choices for CP. but, I’ve reached the stage of sinus headache and pressure with this virus and the idea of perfume is off-putting.
Still likely to do the Champaca travel spray split tomorrow. I know three of you who expressed interest earlier, so heads up (Robin, madtowngirl and Coin-op) in case you are still interested. No worries if not.
Yes! I am in!
I was actually going to ask you about that today. This is my weekend to work and I may be away from my phone for extended periods and I didn’t want to miss out. Please count me for 1.
If this is the Ormond Jayne Champaca, I might be in.
Ditto
Feel better!
I might very well be as well. My OJ Woman Travel set is on its way as we speak…Champaca is the only other one I liked from the line.
?
Feel better!
I am definitely in so please save me a spot!
I’m enjoying Journey woman on my scarkf from yesterday, but may spritz Miller Harris Fleur de Sel, probably my favourite ‘summer ‘perfume when I’ve finished my tea and home made chocolate cake- im very pleased as it’s the nicest chocolate cake I’ve ever made , and it’s gluten free!
Be right over for tea & cake!
Fleur de Sel was one of my options for today. I might give myself a little spritz post shower this evening. It’s good stuff. ☺
And so I did!
Congrats on the cake—I know how hard it can be to find a good gluten-free recipe.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
There is finally a little bit of daylight in the morning when I leave for work, and it is so nice. I see spring! It’s coming!!????
Hope your work weekend flies by!
Thanks! Me too!!?
I am closing the blinds to the patio an hour later than I was last month. Yay for more daylight! ?
I noticed the same thing with the blinds at work!
Friday!
1) A magarita sounds lovely, along with sunshine and a bikini. But the West Coast has been getting her fair share of rain, freezing fog…and snow in California.
2) I am, of course, in California this weekend.
3) Am wearing the last of BeautyPie’s Brazilian Lime, fig Leaves and Tea fragrance. Very crisp and elegant, very refreshing, drying down to a warm skin scent. Delightful, and relatively affordable to buy a full bottle of.
Oh, that sounds like a fun perfume! Sorry about the bad weather.
Well, that photo looks delicious!
SOTD SSS Yin&Ylang. It’s a bit chilly with some strong wind gusts, but it’s not raining, so that’s a plus. This is a great not-too-summery but still uplifting perfume. As usual, I wish I had gotten more than a travel spray.
We have a sick day due to doggie digestive issues with disgusting symptoms I won’t go into. We’re chillin’ (literally!) in the van as I’m working on second cup of coffee. Trying to think of a way I can teach T-Rex about cause and effect; if you eat putrid dead offal while hiking, you most likely will throw your GI tract into an uproar and be uncomfortable. Plus, you will cause your human anxiety and dwindling savings for Alaska.
How do I get that across in dog lingo? ?
Hope everyone is planning on a great weekend with absolutely zero sickness of any kind! ??
Aww poor pupper! And you! My pup loves a good smell to roll on ?
At first glance, I thought your new avatar was a baby bird asking to be fed! ?
Is that a bottle from the Memo Leather line?
Oh yeah I can see that! It’s “arty” ha, guerlain samsara bottle, and saffron steeping in water.
Nice! Love those refillable Guerlain things.
Hope your girl feels better quickly. Maybe a Vulcan mind meld? ??
A Vulcan mind meld sounds like just the thing! I’m going to see if I can buy it on Amazon ?
?
Having a young puppy, we have had two midnight vet runs due to dietary indiscretions, you have my utmost sympathies. Hope T-Rex feels better by tomorrow.
I *think* she feels fine because she’s drinking and has an appetite. She’s on pre- and probiotics as well as meds to help “firm” the output. It’s just every 5 minutes I get a paw tapping my forearm and “the look” which means I need to don boots, jacket, and scarf to take her out stat…?
Well, at least she tells you beforehand……gotta give her points for that.
Yes, I give her lots of points, and lots of love, too! ?
You are the best dog Mom!
Poor T-Rex (and mommy)! But at least you smell great!
Thanks!
Poor doggo and poor doggo mommy. At least she can signal her need to go rather than (eek).
She signals much better than most human drivers?
Oooof and ewwwww! Poor T-Rex and poor you! It sounds really unpleasant for all involved.
You smell great! My supply of YY is almost microscopic at this point.? I hope T-Rex is feeling better!
Not participating in the community project today because I have nothing salty or with lime. So I am wearing Phi Une Rose du Kandahar. My Fragrancenet package shipped last night and can’t wait to get it.
You smell great Dawn!
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant
Mojito, not margarita but has has lime. I engineered the red package taking the maroon holder from another travel spray and using it on my Cedrat Enivrant bottle.
Calypso, if you’re reading this, could you send me an email (click on hajusuuri link) so I have your email? Thank you.
Commuting Woes – whatever the air feels like outside, the air inside a train car is heavier and it takes longer for smells to dissipate. Today, we had a champion farter who let go not once, not twice, but THREE times for crying out loud!
In other news, while everyone likes free shipping, offering this ends up cutting into profits.! I don’t care at all about the large companies but for the indies, I do; however, even for the indies, the shipping cost ends up being some ridiculous amount because of not setting up the calculator properly. All these to say that if you find the shipping fees to be over the top, it doesn’t hurt to email the company to ask for lower shipping. I recently did this for an Etsy order and ended up with a $15 “discount”.
Omg! Nothing worse than farting in closed spaces! I sure hope you had a scented scarf to drape over your nose!
? I used to work with a nurse who carried a small jar of Vick’s vapor rub, which she would smear under her nose or on her mask before she went into a room for a particularity odious (and malodorous) task. Worked like a charm!
That sounds like a great solution!
I use White Flower oil but I need to retrieve it from another purse.
I don’t mind paying shipping if it’s reasonable, but some of these online shops are ridiculous.
I was purchasing a total of no more than what would fit in four 3mL atomizers (in fact, I think one of the four fits into a dabber vial). I was flabbergasted when the shipping charges came to almost $20 for something to be shipped up the east coast! Anyway, I emailed the person and said I didn’t think it would cost that much for regular first class mail.
Yesterday, I got an offer from Puredistance for a 5mL travel spray of their newest perfume (AENOTUS) for 49 euros. The shipping on top of that was $35 euros! Thanks, but no thanks. I would have paid 15. I just sent them an email to ask if they would consider giving me a 35 euro credit for a subsequent purchase of any 17mL or bigger perfume on top of any promotions at the time of purchase. I am waiting to hear back. If I have skin in the game, they should too!
Thanks for the shipping cost advice! And even though they’re your woes, your commuting stories almost always makes me laugh! Thanks!
I’m glad I could make you laugh! The shipping advice holds true for purchasing things at a department store that may not be perfect but still satisfies a need. They can say no or agree to your counter.
I can’t stand public farters! Eww
How rude, right?
I’d rather smell farts than urine on public transit. Not that either one is a great choice to begin with. ?
oh yuck!
I was planning on wearing JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt, but I took a quick shower after working out, then absentmindedly put on some Lili Bermuda Oleander. No points for me.
Wood Sage and Sea Salt was an option today, but Fils de Dieu demanded skin time.
Oh, dear! I often either forget to wear the right perfume, or forget to post. You should probably have a few points for intent, though.
Jil Sander No 4 – just love this one. Seeing some sun today!
Yay for sun!
Chypre-Siam from Rogue Perfumery, because it has kaffir-lime and i had my second meeting with my (now) new employers. Had a nice talk for 2 hours and they will send my my contract on monday! Hope my current employers will not go completely mad at me.
Had a nice stroll through Ludwigsburg, a very beautiful baroque city for some window-shopping, as i found nothing i would really like. But had some sniffs at a perfumery and sprayed some Acqua Motu, so i also got the salt theme checked too!
Congratulations on the new job! More money is always great.
Congrats on the new job! Will you be starting right away, or will you be taking a bit of a break between?
I hope I get a break, 4 weeks would be nice…
Lovely, good for you!
I worked there for one summer many years ago (Ludwigsburg). For the Telefonauskunft.
Well done tannina! Hopefully your current employer will be professional, but if not, remember they are on their path and you are on yours. Very soon they’ll be in your rear view mirror :^)
EdM+ Fleur de Peau. It’s not bad.
But not great?
Won’t do it agaon. ?
Gotcha!
I haven’t posted in a while but I have reading and trying to keep up with the daily scent threads.
My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the end of Dec and moved up to SF to live with my brother and get treatment at UCSF. She decided this week that she wants to end treatment and go on hospice. I am flying up tomorrow.
It has been very hard. My dad passed away the middle of Nov so it has been a one two punch kind of.
I have been wearing plenty of perfume to help get me through these tough days and am so grateful for the wonderful diversion and community of NST.
I am going to keep compulsively refreshing the Splitmeet page tomorrow while I am at the airport in case someone has a vanilla I haven’t tried…it’s possible… ?
She-ra, I’m so sorry. My father had pancreatic cancer as well. Do whatever you need to do to get through this. Make good use of Hospice- they are a tremendous support for family as well. I wish I had a magical vanilla to send to help ease the anguish.
I’m so sorry read that. I’ll be thinking of you.
Oh my goodness, She-ra, I’m so sorry to read this. :hugs:
You’ve been in my thoughts She-ra. Sending big hugs.
Wow… words can’t even express… Prayers, hugs, courage, and admiration to/for you, your mom, your whole family.
I am so sorry for this huge wave of grief and sorrow that has been washing over you since last year. I have a couple of new vanillas you may not have tried, I will email you privately about them. Big hugs to you.
I am so sorry, She-ra. Sending hugs.
I am so sorry She-ra. I had been thinking about you lately. You and your family will be in my prayers. Sending hugs!
So sorry to hear that, how tough. I wish you and your family strength and that the hospice experience will be good and your mother comfortable. If you have not tried the Serge Lutens Bois Vanille, let me know!
Oh She-ra…I am so sorry you and your family are going through this. I am sending prayers for you all. Hugs.
Very sorry to hear about your mom, she-ra. ? I’m imagining you surrounded by protective blue light. Take good care of yourself.
Oh, no, I’m so sorry. And to have this happen so soon after your father died is just too cruel. I wish you much luck and hope that you will be able to support her and find resources for yourself as things go forward from here. It’s very very sad.
So sorry to hear about your Mom. Wishing you strength and peace at this very difficult time.
She-ra, you have my deepest sympathies. So very sorry that you have had 2 major life disruptions happen this close together. Don’t forget to take a bit of time for self care right now.
I am so sorry She-ra. Sending you well-wishes.
Have you tried Lune Feline? If not I would like to send you some – its a nice vanilla. U can email me at yasminazsquared in geemale land
Oh, She-ra! I’m so sorry to hear about your one two punch. I hope that you and your brother can bring comfort to your brave mother— and to each other. It may give your mother great solace to know that you will have each other for support into the future. I know many parents worry about those that they are leaving behind. Peace to you and your family in this difficult time.
I’m so sorry to hear this news She-ra ? sending you love.
Oh, She-ra, I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I know it’s perhaps small comfort, but hospice care is a blessing at such a difficult time. Hugs to you all.
She-ra, so sorry to hear of this turn of events with your mom. I wish your family well as you deal with this situation. Hugs.
Oh She-ra, I am so sorry. Pancreatic cancer is so fast, there is barely time to adjust. We are all thinking of you.
She ra, I’m so sorry to read this. Prayers and hugs for you, your Mom and your brother ?
Oh She-ra, I am sending you my deepest heartfelt sympathies. I am so very sorry. What a difficult time.
I would offer you my very best hug if I could.
Have been thinking of you and continuing to do so. More vanilla!!
I’ve lavishly sprayed one of my few citrus perfumes – Jour d’Hermes Absolu, courtesy of Kanuka. I’m heading off shortly for a hair appointment, so I hope my stylist appreciates grapefruit as much as I do!
I love that one…hope your hairdresser did too.
Hermes Ambre des Merveilles. I think it has a salty note. Does it? Sort of? I thought it did, but — sniff, sniff the wrist — now I’m not sure. I like it, tho.
I think you smell marvelous. And to me, it is a bit salty.
Not in the mood for lime and salt today, I’m wearing Guerlain Attrape-Coeur. After so many dark days of rain, it’s great to see the sun, even if it’s not very warm.
So happy you’re getting a bit of sunshine!
It was wonderful! Took the dog for a nice long walk.
Well I don’t quite smell like a margarita but I do smell nice and fruity in Arielle Shoshana.
Just scored a perfume freebie from my hair salon! That Davines OI solid perfume I mentioned a few weeks ago. Yay! They were offering one free with the purchase of shampoo and conditioner, which I needed anyway.
Nice job on the perfume freebie!
Salt + lime + margarita = several of my favorite summer scent -and food! – notes. However, it’s February and winter and snow on the ground here, with more of the same ahead for this weekend. As a seasonal fragrance wearer I was not keen on this cp but decided to commit to it anyway. So, my SOTD is a summer fave of mine, Tommy Bahama Set Sail St. Bart’s (tequila, lime, sand) warmed up a bit with DKNY Sweet Delicious Tart Key Lime (lime + other citrus, a bit of floral, and sweet notes). In summer I like to layer the Set Sail with BBW’s Coconut Lime Verbena but that’s a no-go for me in winter, so instead I’ve layered my scent combo over BBW’s d/c Rich Citrus Cream (lime, cream, vanilla) and, I must say, I am smelling good!
And with today’s bright sunshine and temps near 40 degrees, I can close my eyes and taste the delicious margarita (salt-rimmed glass, please) I’m sipping on a beautiful white sand beach in the Caribbean. I’m not sure what’s for dinner but I know what’s for dessert – another summer favorite, Key Lime pie. Yum!
Sending warm, comforting thoughts to all of you, especially those experiencing pain/loss/troubles of any kind, and hoping that this weekend brings each of you at least a tiny bit of joy and hope!
Nice layering!
Nice!
I love the imaginative olfactory beach getaway!
Was going to wear OJ Frangipani today but ended back up in Tiare today because I enjoyed it so much from yesterday.
Good grief, TGIF!!!!! We had a baby shower for a co-worker today and it was exhausting to me for some reason. Glad the work day is almost over, I’m ready to get home to my pup and guy.
Nothing wrong at all with a perfume do-over!
Wearing the strange and beautiful Zoologist Bat, which is so lime centric on my skin and smells of nothing so much as fruit, vetiver and damp earth…..
Oh, very interesting! I was perusing Etiket website today so I may have to get a couple samples! Thank you.
It is a very peculiar perfume so ordering a sample is a good idea. I will also add that the note that my nose is reading as lime is actually fig!
Hey, hey, my perfume peeps! Long time (entirely my bad), no ‘see’! Greetings from snowy southern AZ!❄️?It’s barely coming down now, but the white stuff hasn’t stopped at my house since it started fairly early this morning!! Crazy.
I’m in Habit Rouge (EDT) for today’s CP. HR is straight-up lime rather than Shalimar’s bergamot. So, I’m celebrating Margarita Day by smelling like I’ve spilled a bit of my drink on my riding outfit. (That and I plan on actually drinking one later, too.?)
Off to see what everyone else is wearing. Enjoy the rest of your Friday, all!
You smell super good! Love Habit Rouge!
Thanks! I always think “KellyC would approve!” when I wear Shalimar or Habit Rouge!?
You smell marvelous. I love Habit Rouge!
Thanks!!
I saw news footage of the snow in Arizona earlier today. Crazy!!!
It’s bananas. I think it’s been record levels all over the state, even in places like Flagstaff.?
Super late getting here today. I was standing in the kitchen this morning and getting whiffs of a beautiful floral and discovered it was coming from the scarf that was hanging on a hook. I sprayed it yesterday with Cap Neroli and then forgot about it.
SOTD Cap Neroli. Totally easy-wear happy calm scent.
I need to try that one, and the Neroli Intense. Looking forward to orange blossom week at the end of the month!
TFIF
3 days of lime/ salt perfumes this week:
Wed: Lime with Cloon Keen Atelier “Tulum”
Top: lime and grapefruit;
Mid: green mango, pink pepper and rose;
Base: amber, woody notes and maté.
This is beautiful and very refreshing in Summer.
Thu: Lime and salt with L’Artisan Parfumeur “Batucada”
Top: lime, sugar and mint;
Mid: tiare and ylang ylang;
Base: coconut water and sea salt.
Somewhat similar to Tulum, but saltier and less fresh. Probably the closes of the 3 to a margarita, but none of them come *that* close.
Today: Lime and salt with BeauFort London “1805 Tonnère”
Top: lime, smoke and gunpowder;
Mid: blood, brandy and sea water;
Base: amber, balsam fir and cedar.
This evocation of a naval battle during the Napoleonic wars sort of epitomises non-mainstream perfume for me. I would never in a million years have come across the like in regular department stores and duty free shops. So it’s your fault, guys. ;^P
In other news:
– cooked a big old Spanish stew with tomatoes, beans, pumpkin, grelos (turnip tops) and half a butcher’s shop of bacon, chorizo, morcilla (black pudding), tocino (lard?) and what seemed like a smokey bacon bone. Yum!
– signed all the paperwork for the house sale, which should complete in 2 weeks. Yikes!
– failed to get to the post office in the UK with CM8’s marzipan tea, so will try with Correos in the coming week. Sorry!
That Spanish stew sounds wicked good! ?
Marzipan tea? (ears perk up) What brand is it? I am going to have to twist her arm to share some with me!
It’s a Winter special from Teekanne called “Kaminabend” :^)
Yesterday I read through the entire list on Basenotes of perfumes with a lime note (well at least the female ones–there’s more in the male so I did female to narrow it down). It turned out I had only one or two, and Armani Sensi was one that I was surprised at. Well, I know I have my old bottle of it SOMEwhere but after exhaustive searching, it just didn’t show up, so I sprayed on some OJ Tiare from the sample set. Then I proceeded to do errands and took Mom shopping. It turned out she has lost or mislaid her billfold. 🙁 Now, she loses things every day, and they tend to turn up, but we still have not found this after a lot of looking, retracing steps from yesterday, etc. It’s going to be a huge hassle if we can’t find it, because not only does it have money, credit card, and ID in it, but all of her medical insurance information. So I’m very stressed out about all this. We went through a huge rigmarole in Michigan to get her a new ID card last fall and there’s no way we can do it here in Texas (requires going to get birth certificate at courthouse, photo at DMV, etc.), and without an ID she can’t fly home to Michigan anyway…. So for now I am simply sitting here trying to relax by drinking a lot of wine. I’ve also sprayed on Indolis by Areej le Dore, which is delightful and does have a good lime note. If by good fortune the billfold turns up we might go out and at that point I will indulge in a top shelf margarita, because I need it. No margaritas for Mom though…. I’ve decided now she can’t keep her billfold any more, much less drink alcohol. It’s tough because she gets insulted an upset but that’s how it’s got to be.
That’s a very difficult situation for you. I hope you have some help.
We are kind of there with my hubby’s parents. They are in a semi-retirement place, although his Dad is way too young (he will be 80 this April, but he insists he’s much younger). And he is physically; but he’s become the full time caregiver to his wife so its kind if hard to watch. From time to time he also gets very frustrated with her as well; as a result, we’ve had a couple issues come up which have become a bit uncomfortable.
It may be time for the ‘kids’ to step in and become the ‘parents’. Although its easier said then done. As an outsider I’ve had to bite my tongue several times as its now up to the siblings to decide.
Hope you find the wallet!
Oh no! That’s stressful. I hope it turns up
Oh boy. That worry is making a tough situation more difficult. I hope that billfold is just in some weird spot waiting for you to find it.
Hope it turns up for you! What a monumental hassle.
Good luck finding the wallet. Maybe some Good Samaritan has popped it in the mail. A “family connexion” of mine, in the parlance of Jane Austen, has dementia, and her husband decided she couldn’t carry a purse anymore. I think it might have been kinder to let her have one along the lines of the one the Queen of England is rumored to carry, containing nothing but some tissues and a lipstick.
That’s exactly what we’re doing now with Mom. She’ll have some needed supplies like that but not the billfold and other information inside it.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I was spoiled for choice with lime and salt scents. Most of them are thanks to other NSTers who have chosen to share their lovelies. I greatly appreciate the folks who offer items at the Swapmeets and Freebiemeets! Or just for grins! Thank you very much.
SOTD = ELdO’s Fils de Dieu, from the decant stash. I’m on Team Lime today.
I’ve had my eye on a bottle for some time. I may have to spring for it.
I like citrus anything; the snow falling outside right now is making me almost push the buy now button!
Fils de Dieu is on my FB wish list. When I first tried it, I thought it was a summer scent, but after more sniffing I think I like it even better in cool to cold weather.
This probably isn’t helping with the urge to hit the “Buy Now” button, is it?
Oh, interesting, and thanks, as it’s now making the ‘buy now’ even easier. And it’s only $39 CDN. Not that I’m enabling (to myself).. lol ?
I now have about 4 or 5 bottles in my cart!
Sounds like that’s a really good price for Fils de Dieu. If it’s a cute 30mL bottle, even better!
Oh, didn’t realise that one has lime. I have it too! Good! It’s a nice one.
The lime note is rather long lasting on me with Fils de Dieu. I was rather surprised by that, since citrus notes usually fly off at warp speed.
You small fabulous!
Smell* ?
Thank you! It sure helped with the gloomy cloudy weather today. ☁☁☁
I wore A Ce Soir again today so no points for me. I love lime though and squeeze it on all kinds of food.
Excited for the splitmeet tomorrow!
Yasmina, are you the one who was asking about Lalique Le Parfum as compared to SDV? (I sometimes save the Friday community projects to read offline if I don’t have time to post. Some of them wait a while to be read.) If you haven’t gotten to try LLP yet, email me and I’ll send you some. I think the drydown of LLP does resemble the opening of SDV, although it never evolves into anything like the gorgeous SDV drydown. Anyway, iphintaur in the ancient land of aol if you want to try some.
Yes that was me! I am so impressed you read the archived threads and so grateful you are following up with me! Emailing you soon
Like several others, I wore OJ Tiare which is hard to beat.
Hugs to you all going through tough times!!
Hugs are good anytime! Thanks gvillecreative.
I went salty with House of Matriarch Orca. Last time I wore it, the weather was warmer, and it got quiet and ambery in a hurry. This time, the salty/briny opening lasted quite a while, and the drydown seems less sweet and a bit less quiet than I remember. Very interesting perfume, allegedly containing actual ambergris. Awfully pricy, though, and I think I’d limit myself to another 5 ml. On sale.
Speaking of pricy, I wish I had some Virgin Island Water left to go with it. The lime in the opening is amazing, and I like the sweetish, boozy drydown as well. If it cost somewhere between a third and a fifth of the price, it’d be on my FB list. I think Demeter has a Margarita fragrance, though, so maybe I’ll look into that as a substitute for drinks with lime.
Stay warm, everyone. (Except you Southern Hemisphere folks. You stay cool.)
