Thursday scent of the day 12/6

Posted by Robin on 6 December 2018 196 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Saint Nicholas Day, Ira Gershwin's birthday, and in Canada, it's the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Banane.

Reminder: on 12/7, pick your poison BWF...wear a perfume with tuberose, gardenia or both.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am about to eat a banana Robin.

Sampling some Clarin’s skincare/body products today.

I am in still in my BWF bermuda scent, I got my bottle yesterday so don’t expect to change anytime soon…

I made my own latte this morning, with the help of chubby Buddha. We are home today together and listening to salsa music. Anyone have any favorites?

All my bananas are sadly still too green.

(My Dad *only* eats green bananas, does anyone else do that?)

I like bananas just slightly yellow…does that count? I can’t stand them once they get all sweet and mushy.

No, he wants them to still be pretty green. Not totally 100% green, but about 2 days before I would eat it. I don’t like them mushy either, I like them the first day the green is gone.

My daughter will only eat them greenish. I like them best when they get a few little brown spots on the peel. 🍌

There is more variety in bananas here than there used to be, but not by much!! I can get good red bananas because of the local Mexican population, and sometimes a few kinds of the mini yellow bananas, but that’s about it.

Nope! Aren’t they harder to digest? They may contain less sugar which is a smart way to stay healthy? That’s clever if true.
My father used to like his baked! It was cool (a novelty) back in the 70’s I think…
I can not find that perfume at our local Whole Foods!!

They definitely have more resistant starch when they’re still green, which is either better or worse for your digestion, depending. But that is not his reason, he says he just likes them green.

I am trying their oil face wash, neck cream, double serum and super restorative day cream. I have been using their toner on and off for years and it came with all these samples. When the kids nap I will try the mask and the foot cream.

What do you like by them?

For me, I like the double serum in summer as a night treatment. Really nice combo of ingredients that help with sun exposure.

So far I like the double serum the best. I felt as though I didn’t need much hydration after I put it on. Its melted right into my skin..

I am trying not to fall in love with anything since clarins is not cheap. Though I won’t be parted from my toner lotion.

I’ve used Clarins skin care on and off since I was a teenager, the blue lotus oil is excellent for controlling acne. When I used to tan, their self-tanner SPF 6 was wonderful, the Iris toner and Cotton Seed Gentle Foaming Cleanser are great for combination skin, Eau Dynamisante spray and deodorant, Eau des Jardins lotion, shower gel and cologne spray.
Years ago, their foundations were so beautiful, on par with Chanel but recent formulations have a pink undertone (doesn’t work with my olive-toned skin).

I am in Versace Blonde. It is a lush, sweet tuberose, although I can occasionally smell some gardenia in top notes. I think of Blonde as an easier to wear Fracas – maybe because my Fracas is in a atomizer bottle, while Blonde is in one of those cute splash minis, so I spray Fracas but dab Blonde.

Thank you for your comments on my cat yesterday. She is well, warm and comfortable. :)

That’s the Mitsouko I have, and it’s glorious, the only one I truly love. Some aficionados find it harsh compared to earlier versions, but I think Mitsouko should have the knives out. I’ve tried sixties-vintage parfum, which is too refined, and modern EDP and parfum from a few years ago, both of which are nearly or completely devoid of oakmoss and therefore worthless.

Maybe partial credit for a little white floral? Wearing Annick Goutal Songes EDP, maybe the best woody jasmine ever. A tiny squirt of Lush Lust at the neck, because, why not? Also bathed with my Godiva hair bar. So if I was a radio station, my broadcast would be all jasmine, all the time.

While it is not really big, I would not call Songes little. And it has tiare aka Tahitian gardenia. You smell pretty in all those jasmine layers. :)

I have Lush Yes Yes Yes massage bar and often use it as a body moisturizer. Same jasmine as in Lust. :)

Wearing Adjatay today which is big and contains tuberose. Yesterday I sampled Koh-i-Noor from Areej Le Dore which the card in the discovery set described as a huge, animalic floral oriental which is VERY animalic for the first few hours. The floral part that emerges is lovely with gardenia, jasmine and tuberose but the opening definitely makes it not appropriate for work

Thanks for information. I just ordered two bottles of Nuit Etoilee from fragrancenet. I am going to give one to my Mom for Christmas. One will be for me as a backup. When I first smelled this scent a few years ago, it reminded me of my Mom wearing perfume and all dressed up. I had a flashback of her smelling like this a long time ago, when I was little. I know it wasn’t this scent because Nuit Etoilee hasn’t been out for that long.

She’ll open it, and I’ll tell about my flashback of her wearing something similar to the perfume. Fingers crossed that she likes it.

I’m trying the 2nd of my Areej Le Dore Discovery set today and picked Oud Luwak. Nice! It says it’s got the finest and rarest oud. Mostly right now after just spraying, what I get is coffee! There is a deep oud note too, and it’s nice because it’s not a bit sour, as they so often seem to be. This one is unusual and I’m going to enjoy seeing how it progresses and dries down.

    SotD = Apres L’Ondee

Rainy again today, so this one is just right. Wore it yesterday too.

I’m enjoying everyone’s bwf choices this week. I’m going to wear Carnal Flower tomorrow if I find my sample today. I also want to wear Jardins de Bagatelle and that’s on my dressing table so I’m covered.

Alas, FB lust has taken over my heart and mind again. I just sniffed my empty sample of Luci ed Ombre and swooned, so beautiful, it may be my holy grail bwf.

    You all smell fantastic. 😀

Hope each of us finds a moment of peace today.

Moving inspired me to use up some low decants and bottles.
That said, SOTD is Fracas by Piguet (decant). It’s nice, but not me.

But then Big White Florals have never really worked well on my skin.

Oooh — perfect picture for what I’m wearing today, by coincidence! I’m wearing Parfumerie Generale Felanilla, which is basically all banana with a hint of saffron on me. The kid has found her boots from St. Nicholas, eaten one too many marzipan potatoes, and is now off to school. Time to buckle down and start my work!

I went with Peche Cardinal by MDCI. I smell like peach, tuberose and coconut. I have to spray lightly with this one but that is true for me with all tuberose fragrances.

Sounds lovely. I’m not a huge fan of white florals as a whole, but I do like a good tuberose, and the coconut and peach seem like they’d be really pretty with it.

I feel at one with the photo today since I just finished oatmeal with a perfectly ripened banana- delish!

I’m in the warm spicy hug of PG Indochine. My bottle is 2/3 gone, but I have sent a lot of that through the mail as swaps, etc. But still…it’s one of my favorite fall/winter scents.

We’ve had some rain here the last couple of day and the hills have all greened up so beautifully! I could tell the cows were so happy as they grazed on young green grass with zest and contentment, tails swishing in happiness.

    Happy Almost Friday Day ✌🏼

Happy St. Nicolas Day! In my region all children – big or small (adults included) get some sweet treats from friends and family.

Scent for the occasion is a much comforting hug of Aedes Cierge de Lune.

On the other hand – got an email from yet another perfume house informing me that I passed through the candidate screening and they’ll want to have an interview with me in January or February.

    1) Cold, dry and sunny today. Am in a combo of Ortigia Sandalo soap, Carol’s Daughter’s Buttercream and Black Jade, and they meld perfectly.

Could not stand tuberose today after a 11h workday und not enough sleep. Went with L’ Air de Rien, which i really like after the first minutes. Smells so powdery und cozy on my skin.
Cooked rutabaga soup with sausages for dinner, will have leftovers for work. No cafeteria or shop near my practise….
Will bravely spray some tuberose again tomorrow.

Hello NST. It’s been a rough 24 hours.

About this time last night, I got a call from my brother. He was on his way to the hospital: our mom was thought to have had a stroke. She was to be kept overnight for observation, and get an MRI. While my brother was in the regular hospital room, my mom had a seizure. She was moved to ICU. My brother promised to call at any hour if something significant happened.

So here I am. Waiting for more news. Worried sick. Hundreds of miles away. I fervently hope that the people looking after my mom are of the same caliber that Deva is.

SOTD = Relique d’Amour. I desperately needed a calming incense today. I almost skipped perfume altogether.

Self posting to give everyone an update. I just got off the phone with my brother. Answers are coming slowly, but that’s kind of how medical diagnoses work.

Good news. Yes, it was a stroke, but it was caused by several small clots, and not a big one. That means the damage is limited, and that the prognosis is good for recovery. My mom is out of ICU.

Thank you so much for your positive thoughts and prayers.

SOTD = Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Ambre Precieux

This is a great perfume – powdery myrrh amber vanilla woody resin. Mine is in the tacky jewel topped red bottle.

I’m waffling on what to wear tomorrow as it does not feel like a BWF day. I may just need to live vicariously through those participating!

We’re having a holiday dessert on a stick contest week after next. I’m soliciting ideas for a no cooking / baking required dessert. There’ll be a category for Best Decorated, Best Tasting (holiday flavored) and Best Pairing with a hot chocolate drink. Ideas from one and all are welcome. P. S. Last year I made Twinkies and Nutella Cannoli and won the Least Healthy category.

It’s hard to beat the seasonal peppermint ice cream. Does this literally hane to be on a stick, though? Maybe you can spear something with candy canes…

It does not need to be a literal inedible stick so candy cane qualifies. A toothpick also counts as a stick!

I am picturing Mallomars, back to back, so as to make a vaguely round shape, speared with a stick through the middle and covered with canned whipped cream. It would look kind of like a snow ball. Very last-minute to make as the cream doesn’t hold up, and difficult to eat on a stick. You might be better off with candies on a stick, caramels and fruit gels and such.

I’ll think on this overnight and see if I come up with something. Right now I am drawing a complete blank.

Super late to the party. I had another insane day at work.

I finally thunked my sample of Reve d’Ossian today. Full bottle worthy and as usual with every perfume that I try and love, it made it to my endless to-buy list. I am sure it will stay there forever!

    Thanks God is almost Friday!

I agree that Reve d’Ossian is FB worthy. It lasts a good 7 – 9 hours on me.

Nuit de Bakelite, Naomi Goodsir for me today.
Wow, this is beautiful now but we didn’t get along at all at first.
    So green so tuberosa!
