It's Renegades Friday (and the last day of November). Our community project for today: wear a perfume by one of the Project Renegades perfumers (Mark Buxton, Bertrand Duchaufour or Geza Schoen), if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm off-season, in the lovely warm weather floral Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola from Bertrand Duchaufour.
Reminder: on 12/7, pick your poison BWF...wear a perfume with tuberose, gardenia or both.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

hmmmmmm….Yum
Another dark and rainy day to stay home and cuddle with the puppy. I’m in Traversée du Bosphore.
Is puppy girl eating??
Yes, although my husband has been having to hand feed her. I think she just likes the extra attention. Last night he hand fed her a few bites, then she wouldn’t eat any more, so he put the plate down and left. 20 minutes later she went over and finished by herself. I have hope that we will have her back on track eating on her own reliably soon. At least she is eating the raw food that is best for her.
Well a little extra TLC is allowed given all she’s been through! Good to hear.
It is a Traversée du Bosphore day me thinks!
I own only one scent by any of those three perfumers, and it’s Buxton’s 1994-vintage Dalissime, so I’m wearing a big glug of that today.
1987’s Gem by Van Cleef & Arpels was a proper eighties modernization of Mitsouko — a true chypre, but with the stone fruits and the florals wildly amped up, as was the style at the time — and Dalissime was a ’90s reworking of Gem, with the chypre base elements dialled almost down to nothing, replaced with woody vanilla plus the barest smidge of oakmoss. It’s a mad profusion of fruit and flowers — peach, plum, apricot, pineapple, rose, jasmine, LOTV — perfectly balanced and absolutely delightful.
that sounds wonderful. heavy but wonderful.
I’ve not tried Dalissime but I love Salvador Dali pour homme – many of the scents from that line are intriguing.
And it’s a great name for a perfume!
I’ve borrowed Mechant Loup and am enjoying the hazelnutiness of it. Happy Friday everyone, may work be as short and light as possible!
I like that one, wish I’d bought it years ago.
Wearing Winter Vixen by Smell Bent’s Brent Leonesio.
Not one of the CP’s renegades, but definitely an outlier as far as noses go.
I tried his 1997 last night, tons of palo santo in it. It was too much for me, I need lighter doses of that note. Not sure what I am going to do with this bottle that I blind bought. If anyone wants it, please let me know!
Thank You for the offer Cazaubon!!
I would love to try this one. My husband LOVES Palo Santo!
Can I email you?
Yes, I’d be happy to send it to you! My email is my user name @me.com.
Ok emailing you now. I may have a few decants that would interest you in return.
Thank You!!!!
I am not on theme with the CP, but wearing Black Jade by Lubin. I feel like I am wearing this fragrance as opposed to the fragrance wearing me – you know what I mean? It’s an easy one to wear.
That is a really beautiful scent
You smell beautiful!
Black Jade is always on theme! Soooooo good!
No points for me today, because a spray sample of 10 Corso Como arrived in yesterday’s mail and I have no self-control – could not wait to try this sprayed. And it’s quite lovely, and perfect for a rainy Friday. Have a lovely day, all you renegade NSTers. 🙂
I can totally identify with this. When I receive a sample, I cannot resist !
You smell great, love 10CC!
Smelling great.
Enjoy! That is a nice sandalwood
Thanks everyone! I can now report (at 7:30 in the evening) that longevity with 10CC is very good, and it’s still quite lovely after a full day’s wearing. A FB is probably in my near future. 🙂
I’m wearing Geza Schoen, in the form of Molecule 04. In his review, Kevin remarked that some people cannot smell the Javanol that makes up Molecule 04, but I can smell it just fine. And I like it. Not enough to buy a bottle mind you. Of the five Escentric Molecule scents I’ve worn this week, this is the best.
I agree, this was the best out of the 4 for me too, but still not FBW.
I am wearing Penhaligon’s Ostara by Bertrand Duchaufour. It is a very beautiful scent, but I am not sure it suits me, although it is smelling better on my skin, after first spraying it two hours ago.
A few weeks ago I received some gift boxes from Saks with perfume, makeup and skin care samples in it. I tried TF Black Orchid early in the morning. It came in an adorable mini bottle. I had a raging headache from it about an hour later, and tried to wash it off with micellar water, then when that didn’t work, I tried warm water and soap. I replaced it with Hermes Neroli Dore, but Black Orchid kept coming through.
Later, I took a shower with Neroli Dore body wash and then put Neroli Dore fragrance on. Much better ! More my style 🙂 I smelled so nice and polished for my dinner date with husband last night.
Love Ostara – you smell great.
I’ve yet to find a Tom Ford that I want to wear more than once, if I’m being honest.
I think this is the only Tom Ford I have tried on my skin. I am going to think twice before I put another one on. Black Orchid really has staying power, I will give it that.
+1 Nicolasix
I love Black Orchid but it is truly the longest lasting, widest spreading, least scrubbable of all fragrances.
I found that out yesterday 🙂
I second this. Both the love and it being unscrubbable.
Third this. Also, it goes bad after 3 years, unlike most other perfumes I have.
Twins!
We smell good !
I am liking Ostara more as the day goes on.
It’s a gorgeous daffodil!
Triplets. Sorry about your nightmare experience with Black Orchid, I sampled it and found it Big too.
My absolute favorite of today’s options is Duchaufour’s Al Oudh for L’Artisan, but my bottle is tucked away (I like it much better in hot weather). I went with Mark Buxton’s Vetiver 46 from Le Labo, a nice, dry vetiver.
We had a crazy storm in the middle of the night so I missed some sleep. Hope everyone else is enjoying their coffee/tea (I’m having extra).
You smell great! Vetiver 46 is very incensey on me. Just had a delicious cup of Republic of Tea’s holiday Sip and Be Merry (caramel, vanilla and cardamom). Big storm here last night as well.
YUM!!! I love that tea!
Hope you are feeling better today.
Just had a cup of their Peppermint Bark herbal tea. Feeling a bit better today, thank you. 🙂
Another fan of the Sip and Be Merry Tea! I just finished off a tin of it earlier this week from last year. I’m giving serious thought to getting more now that Republic of Tea is having a special. Free shipping on orders over $30 until December 16.
Twins in Vetiver 46!
Thank you all so much for the kind and caring words last wednesday!
Needless to say it is a quite stressful time right now. I long for a good nightsleep and a mug of hot chocolate!
At work everything is very very busy all of a sudden, but its also a welcome distraction and most of the projects generate positive energy.
SotD is Ormonde Woman
Wasnt it created by Geza Schoen???
It was, my understanding is that he did all of the early OJ’s. You smell wonderful, OJ Woman is great in times of stress.
It’s hard isn’t it, when you realise how random life often is.
I’m glad to hear you are getting positive distraction from work. Sending you warm thoughts and hope you get a good rest and some hot cocoa this weekend!
You smell wonderful.
House twins! And I just wanted to send more hugs your way. I hope you get that hot chocolate soon.
You smell fantastic!
☕! It’s virtual, but this is the best I can do for hot chocolate. Hope you get the real thing soon.
Hi Jiji, I did not get a chance to comment on your post yesterday. So sorry about your FIL. I hope he can get as comfortable as possible and pain-free.
I’m not participating in this week’s CP, but I’m wearing 3 sprays of vintage Raffinee by Houbigant. It’s still chilly here in Florida this morning but it is going to warm up today.
Sitting inside waiting patiently for my new fridge to be delivered. I’m passing the time drinking coffee and watching Wayne Goss and Lisa Eldridge makeup videos on YouTube.
Happy Friday everyone!
Oh, you smell lovely!
Thank you lillyjo!
Raffinee is such a lovely carnation scent, thank you for reminding me of it as I have neglected my bottle.
I went with Ouarzazate over Ancient Resins oil. Thank you Mr. Buxton. I accidentally scratched the cornea of my right eye this morning so I am now at the eye doctor. I hope he can do something so I can get back to work. It won’t stop tearing. Happy Friday all.
Oh no! Hope your eye heals quickly
Accidents can happen so fast. I am glad you went to doctor. I hope your eye starts feeling better soon.
When I saw your little kitty face, I thought oh good, you got a break from work…. This is not a good break! Hopefully the eye doctor can help quickly.
So sorry about your eye, hope the doctor can help. You smell wonderful.
Good Luck Petunia! I have done that as well.
Be careful and a good patient!
Oh no! I hope it heals quickly.
Ouch! I hope you heal soon.
What bad luck, hopefully the ophtamologist will sort it out.
So sorry Petunia! You do smell fantastic, at least.
Ouch, sorry to hear that. That happened to me once. I didn’t go to the eye doctor since I didn’t have health insurance at the time, so I just kept an eye patch on it and it healed by itself in about a week. Not a fun week.
Hope the doc can do something for you.
Oh, dear! I hope your eye is ok. Eye stuff is so uncomfortable. But you do smell great, twin!
We were almost scent twins today 🙂 I hope you heal quickly!
Thanks everyone for your sweet words. Although it hurt like a dickens, the doc said that I will live and it should be healed by Monday. ? He gave me drops and put a medicated contact lense over it which is helping. My vision was too blurry to go back to work so I am home now relaxing. Since I stare at dual monitors all day, it would have been pointless. You guys are the BEST!
Glad to hear all will be well in time!
Ack! The dual monitors..I have the same. I know how tired and blurred your eyes can get staring at spreadsheets all day.
Hopefully you will get some relief soon!
Glad to hear it should heal quickly. Sorry about the pain. Ugh.
Sounds promising, hope you are all healed soon!
Ow! That sounds unpleasant to say the least. Glad that you went to the doc and had it checked out.
Eeek! Glad the doc was able to help!
Petunia, hope that is feeling better soon. Corneal abrasions and scratches can be really painful, as I’m sure you’ve realized. Happy healing, and that medicated contact lense idea is amazing?
I have a great ophthalmologist and he’s cute too. Not that I noticed or anything…
Good morning, and you know what day it is…..FriYAY!!!!!
I had a few samples from the Renegades, and almost went with a Buxton…but I ended up in Anat Fritz Tzora (by Geza Schoen). LOVE THIS ONE! I get pretty happy about any scent with clary sage and that chypre mossy and patchouli thing going on, and this one is soooooo nice.
Have a great weekend y’all…..
FriYAY! Enjoy ?
The original CDG perfume for me. A clove bomb but no clove oil in sight. A very witty and lovely slight of hand by Mr. Buxton.
Love all his early CdGs, but unfortunately am out of almost all of them. CdG is like the last holdout for small sizes!!
Intelligence and Fantasy (Geza Schoen). I often think my intelligence is a fantasy, but to be honest I more often think Other People’s is. And the scent is just meh.
Hee hee. Sorry the scent is lackluster.
HA!
Thumbing through the newspaper and having a chai latte from a cafe
I am in my Bermuda fragrance still , a bit of sunshine ☀️ on a gray day
I am trying to let go of some negativity, that recently lit my fire.
And I am going to hold of venting about it, for now ?
I find that venting can often fan the flames of my discontent, somtimes it’s better not to give it a voice. Wishing you peace and equanimity.
Being offended… kind of a useless, self-gnawing emotion that seems to only grow with every retelling. But sometimes it helps to know when others share my indignation.
Hope the negatively leaves you quickly. Enjoy your chai at the cafe.
I hope your morning is peaceful.
Peaceful thoughts and vibes headed your way. ✌
Breathe in, breathe out. The world balances amazingly quickly that way.?
I am a renegade in Caleche! But I’ll say my favorite from each of the three to make up for it: OJ Woman, Paestum Rose, and CdG2. Happy weekend everybody.
Caleche is never the wrong choice. You smell fantastic!
You smell the epitome of elegance.
I have plenty of Duchaufours to choose from, but decided on Ostara in the end. Sunny, radiant and optimistic. I wish I would feel like that more often.
Question for the perfume mind-hive: I had a small sample of Guerlain’s SDV which I long ago used up. I can’t afford to buy a FB of this amazing stuff, so I every once in awhile I Google around for a dupe. Lalique’s Le Parfum sometimes comes up.
Has anyone here tried the Lalique and could comment on whether or not it would be a dupe for SDV?
I have a decant of Lalique Le Parfum, and though I haven’t worn it in quite some time, I don’t recall it being similar to SDV at all. I think it reminded me more of Rochas Tocade. I’d say to try and sample before springing for a bottle.
I just wore Tocade yesterday and it is so different from SDV, so if that’s what Lalique smells like then yes better sample first!
Le Parfum is vanilla with bay leaf. I had a decant of Le Parfum which I loved. I bought a bottle but it doesn’t smell the same. I’ve come to the conclusion that it was reformulated some time after my decant. My decant was much richer. I wore it once this season but didn’t particularly enjoy it. I’m not a fan of Tocade either.
I have to be in the mood for Tocade – it is rather sweet
And also feel free to suggest dupes for SDV if you know of any!
I recall someone mentioned Couvent des Minimes Eau des Missions Cologne as similar – not sure if they still sell that one at Ulta.
And there are also dupes by other companies – worth a try for $3-30! https://www.sucreabeille.com/lush-and-designer-dupes/spiriteuse-double-vanille
The couvent seems to be hard to find these days – thanks for this link!
I think it’s discontinued, and I didn’t find it a very good substitute for SDV anyway.
I’ve heard the same about Couvent des Minimes! Unfortunately, Ulta doesn’t carry it anymore – at least not in the US.
I don’t find the Lalique similar, other than that they both probably have vanilla.
A very kind person picked up the 15 ml travel size for me at Guerlain in France…wonder if those ever turn up on eBay?
A travel spray would be the perfect solution – another reason to take a trip to Paris!
There was a women who would mule perfume from France to the US for a fee. Not sure if anyone remembers her name or contact info? Hajusuuri may know. Anyway, even with her fee, it was still cheaper than paying for shipping.
ShopFrance is the name of her business, I think her name is Suzanne?
What an interesting business! Will definitely keep this plan in mind as I try to save my pennies for a ticket to Paris
Yes, and have bought from her quite a few times. Great service and I think the prices are fair.
Now wearing any of the renegades today, but will note I realized recently that CdG2 Man is the only CdG that I love. CdG2 for women is pretty good, too. I find the incenses unsatisfying.
Testing Beaufort Vi et Armis today. At first, I feel it smells a bit too much like a barbecue, but it’s kind of growing on me, getting closer to what The Guide describes as “an alchemist’s Christmas party, a dark, rich, swirling combination of peat fire and flambé spice pudding, with some cough syrup and fence paint thrown in for hygiene.”
Hi Nozknoz – I sent you a reply from Monday’s Scent of the Day.
Thanks, I’ll check back!
It doesn’t seem to have been Monday. Do you remember the comment?
My apologies, you are correct, it was Tuesday. Here you go:

Hi NozKnoz ,I think I found it!
Folie À Plusieurs, Mood Indigo by Mark Buxton!!
It is based on the jazz film of the same name.
It is not currently on rotation @ this website but available by request.
The recent review I read had a movie trailer as well but I cannot find that link, however The Candy Perfume Boy did a review on 2015/05/11.
It is not a natural version.
I can’t wait to try it.
I still haven’t tried Vi et Armis–though really should–but I love Couer de Noire.
Is v&a a meaty barbecue, or just full smoke at the start?
There’s smoke and/or creosote. It also seems a bit meaty, but I’m not sure if it really is, or whether that’s just a conditioned association. It’s a very curious fragrance, but the nose is attracted.
?the renegade who had it made?
Styx anyone?… anyone..
Sotd is Aedes de Venustas. Turns out, I also had I miss Violet, but it’s to cold, I think for that. I really like the AdV, I think it suits me, very well. A big thank you to a very kind Nster. Have a great Friday everyone ?
House twin!
Aedes Copal Azur for me today. It is in my top 5 most worn.
You smell fantastic.
So far, I’ve tried this and Iris Nazerena from this house, and have loved both! Haven’t smelled the one you are wearing, but I’m sure you smell fantastic ??
Lillyjo – Good Pick! That is my other favorite, I keep buying the travel sizes so I can split them up as gifts for others.
I am sure that you smell amazing that one as well. How could you NOT??
OMG, so much yes to the Styx. Not because I like them as a band (although I have fond memories of Mr. Roboto), but because that dang song has been STUCK in my head ALL WEEK! Sing it with me now, “The jig is up, the news is out…”
🙂 🙂 🙂
They finally found me…?
Love Styx. As a matter of fact, we were playing our favorite 80s tunes earlier this week on YouTube; that was one if them!
My sister was a huge Styx fan, but I love anything Tommy Shaw ?
Oh no! Now it’s stuck in MY head ? We saw Styx at an event in Philly a few years ago. I have to say it was totally a blast.
And a fave South Park scene:
http://www.comedycentral.co.uk/south-park/videos/come-sail-away
Ha! Excellent
oh no no NO… I stopped just in time, you almost got me!
THAT one will never leave my head.
TOO FUNNY…..and it’s happening
anyway.
dang
? Retrieved for a bounty ?!
Yes to Styx!
Sing it Jalapeno!??
Initially thought I was going with Mohur today but ended up in Avignon. Was just an Avignon kind of morning. I have a decant of Avignon and think I love it more every time I wear it. Will probably need a FB after the decant is gone.
Happy Friday, all! We made it!
Twins!
Well, I almost put on Trayee, but I wanted something even sweeter, almost to the point of suffocation (turtleneck-style, which I am also wearing), so instead I broke from the CP and am wearing Kenzo Jungle. It was the right choice for today, a day when the temp high won’t even break 60 🙁 I guess winter really is coming.
You smell good!
Thanks, KellyC! *sticks nose into turtleneck and sniffs deeply*
Cali life 😉 We might have to turn our heat on tonight here in San Diego!
Hahaha. We’ve been turning the heat on every morning for WEEKS already up here in the Bay Area! (Our thermostat is automated, so we have it turn on to 69F every morning at 6:30.) I’m envious that you still haven’t had to turn on your heat down south 🙂
I have had my heat running here in SD for a couple of weeks.
Jungle Elephant is great stuff, I was thinking of it earlier this week.
I was thinking of wearing Kyoto today but it seemed too chilly out today. So I am wearing Havana Vanille instead. I found a bottle of Jubilation 25 body milk (lotion) for $58 on Amazon and couldn’t refuse that deal. Does that count as a full bottle of perfume?
Body products don’t count with Donatella but we can let Robin confirm.
Plus Amazon was practically giving that away…
Not to Donatella! She does not count body products.
I personally think Donatella would have looked down her nose at you if you hadn’t bought it. ?
Congrats on your deal!
Duchaufour’s Copal d’Azur this morning, and switched to Buxton’s Vetiver 46 (post gym ablutions.) There’s been a lot of incense going on during this wild wind and rain week for me, including CDG 2Man.
Double points!
My bottle of Bruno Fazzolari’s Au DeLa Narcisse arrived! I love both versions of this perfume. AuDeLa Narcisse reminds me of Tatianna from back in the day. It was my Mom’s favorite and she had bought me various incantations over the years of narcissus. It is very special to me and arrived on her birthdate no less.
It is pure light and happiness in a bottle. Actually that description is very MUCH like HER. Love you Mom! Miss you.
What a wonderful association of perfume and loved one. You smell great.
Wow – that is so amazing and touching that your bottle arrived on your mom’s birthdate. What a great olfactory memorial.
Aww, that’s so lovely.
Original Tatiana? Really? Hmm.. will give it a whirl. Tatiana was my first favorite! Made the mistake of buying a bottle a few years ago. Blech!
Enjoy your bottle!
Coincidences like this are bittersweet.
Sweet tribute! And awesome perfume!
How wonderful, enjoy!
That’s a lovely story. I hope you wear and enjoy your new bottle of perfume.
Au Dela is top notch!
My sister had the original Tatiana way back when and silly me thought I could sneak a spray and not get caught.
I’m trying T’aif for the first time today. When I first spritzed, I was underwhelmed. But wow, 5 hours later and I see why everyone raved about it yesterday. This stuff is amazing.
Everyone please have a safe, happy and peaceful Friday.
You smell great!
I fell in love with Ta’if in the drydown, and now I’m hooked.
You inspired me to go find my sample, and I am now participating in the CP!
Yep, that’s how it works!
It’s my day off that I plan to spend in wine country so I’m still a little unsure as to what to wear. Maybe Molecule 01? We’ll see.
I’ve been woken up this morning (earlier than I planned 🙁 ) by a fraud prevention department of my credit card. They asked to confirm a purchase that seemed wrong to them. It was! I haven’t done it today somewhere in Wisconsin, I was happy asleep in California. They’ve declined the transaction even before calling me, and now I’m getting a new card – so no loss. I’m impressed by their algorithms that detected this fraud from one transaction, but annoyed that now I’ll need to figure out all the places where I use it to replace with a new one, which will come in 5 to 10 business days. And, of course, I’m curious from where my CC number was stolen.
Have a quick Friday everyone!
I fear identity and financial information theft so much, especially as it seems that the cyber thieves are always one step ahead of the cyber security folks in terms of ability to hack info. Glad they caught this for you in time!
*cheers Undina’s fraud prevention department*
That stuff is scary, glad they found it in time!
Our credit card info was stolen before Thanksgiving –guess they had plans for some black friday shopping! Luckily the credit card company caught it.
I got a text message from my CC company a few weeks ago about a couple of large suspicious purchases. Unfortunately they texted me after they approved them, so they had to go back to the merchant to deal with it. Of course I am not responsible, but they had to cancel and reissue my card. It’s a pain to fix all the autopays.
Thumbs up that your cc fraud prevention department is that proactive!
Yep stolen credits cards of mine were turned down immediately too, except for the first transaction of $1. The fraud dude said that people generally steal the card and head for a nearby gas station, charge $1 to see if the card is active, and then try to go big with it. In my case, my card was declined 5 consecutive times at Target for sums of $700, $450, $350, $200, and $75. You think they would understand after the initial declination.
I’ve had my share just this year, with the highest amount being $2,000. Another card that was almost compromised was an ATM card I never even activated.
OJ Vanilla d’Iris, thanks to a wonderful swapper at the last swapmeet.
Now at lunchtime it’s dried down to a beautiful skin scent, but it’s clashing with the smell of my lunch!
You should have had vanilla ice cream for lunch 😉
Black Angel from Mark Buxton today.
I have a sample of this and have not tried it yet. How is it?
A mild spicy/cozy scent with low projection
I’m wearing my sample of Timbuktu. I felt like it disappeared on me after I applied, but then about an hour later at work I was pleasantly surprised to find it decided to make an appearance.
Twins! And we both smell great.
Turns out, I am more of a Duchafour fangirl than I realized. I’ve had samples of many of his scents, and thunked them all. This is the last one I’ve still got, and there’s not much left. I’d better look into getting a full bottle of something. Or at least a decent sized decant.
Almost wore that today. Love it!
Thought of wearing that, but i dont like it in the cold. More a summer scent for me.
I absolutely agree, it radiates in warmer weather.
Timbuktu was on my list of “possibles” for today.
In Traversée du Bosphore–almost at the end of my decant. I appreciate this one’s got stuff going on, but don’t feel like I need a full bottle. In other scent news, our new kitten has gone into cukoo mode, attacking everything that does not move. While I was in the kitchen this morning I heard a tremendous crash from my office, where I had put the kitten to keep him safe. The casualty was my Diptyque candle. A bizillian pieces of sharp, wafer thin glass across the floor (it wasn’t lit, and it wasn’t anywhere near the edge of the chest where it had been placed). Fortunately the kitten is okay, but what a mess! He loved the whole thing– my cursing, the big broom, shaking out the floor rug, and especially the vacuum cleaner, which I guess he thinks was just a big cat purring very very loudly. After so much excitement, he’s now asleep splayed across my keyboard–fortunately at the calculator end which is all numbers and I don’t know how to use them anyway.
The kitty crazies! I miss them but I don’t miss them, if you know what I mean. Sorry about your candle!
Yep, equal mix of joy and exasperation.
Oh, boy. Sorry about your candle. But aren’t kittens adorable? ?The messiest casualty I had when my guys were mere kittens was a glass jar of all-natural peanut butter, so extra oozy and oily. That was hell to clean up.
I would say that it’s a good thing that they are adorable! ?
I have multiple bottles of TdB, I love it. Sorry about the demise of your candle, kittens do like to play hockey/test gravity.
I remember the kitten crazies all too well. A couple of things that I thought were safely out of the kittens’ reach weren’t. Ka-Smash! It’s a good thing that the furry little terrors were so darn cute. ?
What a few hot days I’ve had! I’ve missed being able to read comments and commiserations.
I’m sick, just a head cold but can still smell. In fact, I seem super sensitive?! One spritz of T42 and whoa! Strong stuff! Said no one ever?

☝?This is basically what has happened in the last 24 hours. The timing is very interesting. ..I’m exhausted, and just added the link because I’m too tired to relate it, and most are not interested since this is a perfume blog. Duh, Deva!
We are slowly working our way back to normalcy. Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
THAT is effing horrrrrrrrrible. I am so so sorry. Do you feel safe? How’s T-rex? I can’t imagine why the timing is interesting other than it sounds pretty traumatic any time. Thinking of you and glad you are working your way back to normalcy–which speaks volumes for your resourcefulness. Take care of your cold and your soul today.
This is really the first “safety” issue we’ve had, so not too bad overall. 2 years almost now and not one single bad thing before this. Luckily, it’s not even that bad ‘cause I have my doggo back in one piece! But my needs are very simple and easily satisfied.
Timing is interesting only in the I have spoken to the upper echelons regarding patient care and I did not skimp on the details. I’m sure this mightily pissed off many people. ?
I have gone to patient advocates, unit manager, my recruiter, and CNO of my agency so far. Next is house supervisor as soon as I can get my van windows replaced. I’m not anal retentive, but I have limits to my tolerance for unkindness, disregard, and neglect of elderly and sick patients. The worst kind of human ugliness is not protecting and caring for any vulnerable population. Burns me up, and I have to really focus on directing that anger towards change rather bitc* slapping an apathetic useless excuse of a human being.
Sorry, not sorry.
Remind me to need hospitalization when you are in town! I hear you. Even at hospitals where the care is excellent, one burned out supervisor can cause havoc for patients and their families.
Super glad you and T-rex are back together and taking care of each other!
Oh Deva, that’s horrible! I’m so glad you and T-rex didn’t get hurt. Great security in the hospital parking lot…not…and now you have to deal with the aftermath while being sick. I’m so sorry, I hope you feel better soon.
It’s all good! Poor T-Rex! Mario (aka my favorite human) said she was soaking wet, shivering, and running around terrified. The traffic is insane. It’s a singular miracle she’s alive, not to mention a decent human being crossed her path.
Oh Deva.. How horrible! Very glad to hear that your dog is back.
OMG!
Good Grief!
The most important thing is that you are ok and your dog is ok. Material things are replaceable.
I’m so sorry!! Oh my goodness. What an absolute fright! But I’m glad someone brought T-Rex back to you.
Please take care. And adding that many of us here have ‘adopted’ T-Rex as our own. I, for one, love seeing your beautiful photos of her and also the country side as you go about your wonderful adventures.
Oh Deva, I felt sick to the pit of my stomach reading that TRex was gone. You must have been frantic with worry.
Ooh nooo, how horrible.
So glad T Rex is back!!!! I looove your instagram pics of his goofy and lovable face.
Give him all the hugs and take care!
So glad you got reunited with T-Rex by the intervention of a good samaritan.
Deva, I am *so* sorry you have been through this. But I am so very glad that you are t-rex are safe and unhurt.
(am also sorry that you are having to fight to protect patients at the same time–but more power to you in that essential fight )
I’m so sorry this happened to you, Deva. Thank God you and T-Rex are safe!
All around horribleness. Are you thinking someone disgruntled by your concerns may have vandalized your van?!
Deva, this is freaking awful!! I’m so glad you and T are okay. I know you’re probably all over this, but there must be security video of the parking lot that the police could use to apprehend these lowlifes.
And when things settle down, and you feel better, I would love to send you some decants….I know we have some vetivers in common. Take care.
OMG, that’s awful, I’m so sorry to hear it!
How horrible! SOOO glad T-Rex is safe and sound!!
Deva, I’m so sorry you had to go through this, but I am so happy that T-Rex found an amazing human at just the right time. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you.
Glad to hear you got your doggie back! Hopefully working through the rest of the mess will not be too frustrating.
Sorry to hear of your troubles Deva, but so glad that T-Rex and you are safe! You must be so pleased to have her with you again!
Oh no! I am imagining both your horror when you realized T-Rex was gone and your joy at being reunited! What a roller coaster!!!
That’s HORRIBLE!! OMG I would have been in a complete panic to find my dog.I am so happy that you have T-rex, very sorry for all the damn mess. Yes A MIRACLE she was found safe! You are a remarkable person and it is so touching to see how you care for those who cannot protect themselves. I can’t wrap my mind around the idea that ‘Someone You Work With’ may have caused this. Gives me the shivers. Take good care of both of you and do something wonderful for yourself tonite.
What a TERRIBLE thing to happen…..I can’t imagine what you went thru until Home Again called. Sooooooo glad you and T-Rex are OK now.
Criminals SUCK!!!!!!!!
I am so sorry that happened to you Deva. At least your girl is safe and sound. Still, what a pain to sort out. I’m so glad that you’re both okay. Seems like this latest contract is a PIA in more ways than one.
Oh Deva! That was so terrible! But the main thing is that T-Rex is back to you! The rest can be fixed. Blessings to Mario! Hope you feel better soon!
What a horrible experience —beyond words, and so happy you and T-Rex are reunited. What an angel in Mario! I hope the person/s responsible are caught.
What a terrible thing to have to deal with! I’m sorry to hear this has happened to but relieved that T-Rex is safe! I can only imagine how difficult it was to find your companion missing in this way. Take care & stay safe.
I just saw this! I’m so incredibly thrilled for you that T-Rex is home and unharmed. And so sorry it hapoened. What a horrible thing. Cheers for Mario!!
Stay safe, Deva. But you gotta do what you gotta do to protect your patients and the integrity of your profession. The vulnerable need you.
OMG, you must have been in a dead panic. My heart sank when I read T-Rex was gone. So happy you are reunited! And I hope there is security camera footage of who did this. It’s scary to think it could be someone at your workplace. You are so brave. Take care and hope your cold passes quickly.
Holy crap, Deva! I am so sorry! Bad enough that you aren’t feeling well, but to have some scumbag break into your van like that is beyond horrible. I’m happy to hear that a good soul brought T-Rex back safe and sound.
Deva, I can only imagine how scary this was! I agree with you on the interesting timing. So so glad you and T-Rex are safe.
Gosh Deva. So glad this did not turn out worse, but so sorry.
I have more Duchafour than I realized. Today I’m wearing Ashoka, and looking forward to hearing Luca Turin speak tonight at Fumerie. I’m spending the day learning a lot of body percussion to accompany one of the songs my chorus is doing in our holiday concert. Speaking as someone who frequently mixes up right and left, I am expecting a challenge. Thank goodness I’m in the back row and can fake some of the clapping and stomping.
I, too, mix up right and left and NSEW. When I look at a map, I turn my body around to fit the map direction I read of rotating the map. I’m convinced I was not at school when the teacher taught this.
I’m OK with NSEW, but CAN NOT do left and right. I also turn my body to fit the map direction, and haven’t ever known anyone else who does. Oddly though, I have a great sense of direction and am rarely lost. Do you find the same?
My sense of direction is no better than choosing a random path to follow. Way back when on a business trip, I was designated to direct us from George Mason University to our hotel, about 29 minutes away. 45 minutes later we left and looped back 4 different ways back to the university. Needless to say, I was never assigned those duties again.
That should have read 10 minutes away so we got very lost, thanks to me ?
I do that too, I have no internal GPS and couldn’t navigate my way out of a paper bag.
I don’t know that I’d be very coordinated at it, but I wish my choir would do more of those sorts of things – but I think there’d a revolt from the sopranos and a lot of incompetent but cheerful stomping from the basses…
I am joining KellyC in Avignon (Bertrand Duchaufour).
For Lush fans: on December 1, Lush UK will release a number of limited edition perfumes: Lord of Misrule, Grass, American Cream, Yog Nog, Big, Golden Pear, Avocado Co-Wash, Butterball. International shipping available (although maybe not for all countries).
I would go for Lord of Misrule although I got sick of the shower cream (threw out the remaining half of bottle #1 and gave away bottle #2).
Now Butterball ???. I don’t want to smell like a turkey.
Lord of Misrule will probably be a best-seller.
I had to google “butterball turkey” to get your joke.
Ha! That’s the first thing I thought, too! ?
Me too! Butterball = turkey to me.
Third! Or am I fourth?
Gah – SIL just went to Lush in London and picked up presents for us – I threw in a few suggestions of some of the scents Turin reviewed in his latest book, but usually Lush perfume doesn’t do it for me – though I happily put on any of their lotions or shower gels (I also gave her the address of the Nicolai boutique just in case..). American Cream – that could work for me as a scent!
I seem to remember that butterball smells similar to Honey I washed the kids?
I think these scents will only be available online, so they cannot be bought in stores.
Well, Buterball and HIWTK are both sweet and creamy/milky, but for me they are still very different. HIWTK is toffee/honey, Butterball is buttery chocolate/ylang. I prefer HIWTK, since it has a a cheerful bright note (maybe citrus?), and I find Butterball kind of cloying.
Not joining the CP today, but wird Bottega Veneta instead. I like the expensive handbag smell a lot.
Now testing Meharées from Erbolario, just got a sample… Nice musk, Cinnamon und spices
You smell great! Meharees is also nice from my recollection.
Maharees is a rif on Shalimar…I have a sample somewhere…
I thought it was supposed to be a dup of Musc Ravageur?
Hmmm. I have tested MR…It reminded me more of Shalimar but I am not as familiar with Musc Ravageur so perhaps you are right.
It is raw and damp out there, almost as if it will snow at any time except it’s not in the forecast.
SOTD = L’AP Seville a l’Aube
Lavender, incense, orange blossom, tobacco, resins and beeswax. I can wear this year round.
Speaking of lavender, has anyone tried the new Aftelier Face Elixir? I have! It comes in a squat dropper bottle and the shade of green the elixir comes in is one of my favorite colors ever ever. I have only used it to moisturize my hands and the scent is clean slightly flowery lavender (NOT soapy) with a hint of vanilla. I may have found my antidote to smelly commutes – several drops before the commute. Whereas I had never embraced rollerballs, for my intended usage, a rollerball is the perfect carrier!
https://www.aftelier.com/Lavender-Face-Elixir-p/face-elixir-lavender.htm
Looking forward to reading everyone else’s picks!
You do smell good.
That lavender sounds perfect. Will have to check it out.
It is very nice. I’m thinking of lightly applying to hair.
I always thoughnthat lavender oil was very irritating to skin..no? We had a local “apothecary” at home that blended all kinds of essential oils into carrier oils for one or more specific reason. I had a friend who did a face plant then skidded a good way on her face when rollerblading, and they made her a concoction to put on the extensive road rash on the entire left side of her face. It took a long time to heal, but no scarring or discoloration. They specifically told her to avoid any lavender EO due it being a skin irritant. This was a “while” back, so maybe ideas have changed?
Ok, we need Ms. Essential Oil expert (you know who you are) to answer this.
I think the lavender oil in this is very very diluted.
Ha! No expert am I so I defer to one because this is a bit of a controversial subject-
https://roberttisserand.com/2011/08/lavender-oil-skin-savior-or-skin-irritant/
that being said, I looked on the Aftelier website from your link and the ingredients are not listed at all. So if someone is worried about sensitivity or skin irritation I would not purchase this. Also, it is extraordinarily pricy for what you are getting. Me, personally, I would just make this myself with some lavender oil heavily diluted in a good for your skin carrier oil.
Chocolatemarzipan will know for sure, but I think you’re supposed to dilute it at least 50% with a carrier oil.
It was raw and nasty out today, wasn’t it? I had spotty showers off and on for part of the afternoon. Rain, though, and not snow.
I’m joining in today’s theme wearing Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest (Bertrand Duchaufour). Not only am I in harmony with today’s CP, but I’m in harmony with all of nature outside my window. While I don’t live in the fairytale Russian forest evoked by this scent, there are enough trees outside my window to allow me to stretch this imagery just a little and its notes perfectly reflect the day: After Sunday night’s blizzard left us with 8″ of heavy, wet snow that clung to even the smallest, thinnest branches for 4 very cold days, the sun is out today and my world is melting, revealing the autumn leaves left on the ground, even some on the trees; there’s still a bit of green left under the snow; and the birds are finding berries still clinging to branches that were hidden by the snow. I love this fragrance: its back story, its beautiful, heavy dark bottle, and its strong black currant (a favorite note of mine). Amidst the myriad of notes listed on fragrantica are ‘effects of rum and wine’. Haven’t experienced these yet, and I hope they hold off until after my grocery-shopping trip!
Little Bear loves Beard, the male half of our household (one furry face loves another?). She ecstatically rubs his face and purrs loudly and will stop whatever she’s doing when he enters the room. Me? She runs to me only to literally ‘bite the hand that feeds her,’ often (playfully but nonetheless sometimes painfully!) attacking my hands or feet but never rubbing against my face. Hmmm . . . perhaps I should stop shaving my legs and see if that will elicit a rub and a purr?
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!
What a beautiful sight from your window. Lucky you
Our home has many windows and, though we just have a standard size suburban lot, we have a lot of shrubs and plantings and bird feeders, so I always look out the windows as I pass through the rooms. Luckily, our house is situated so that although we have neighbors the curtains can remain open and the shades are always up. I love the ‘one-with-nature’ feeling.
I love the stories about Little Bear. I have a sample Enchanted Forest which I’ve never tried, so thank you for the inspiration to finally use it.
I hope you enjoy it. To me, it’s the perfect scent for a day like today (winter weather came too early/it’s still autumn/I can still smell the trees).
That fragrance does sound enchanting. As does your view. (Makes me sigh as I look out on a busy NYC street)
Oh, I love busy, city streets. Born and raised in Chicago, I could never live more than half an hour away by train, I still need that ‘city fix’ every now and then.
It’s so sweet, how that little kitty has captured your heart. ❤️ ?
She captured ‘Beard’s heart first, he was talking about keepng her the first week I found her while I was searching for a home for her. Now I guess I’m her slave . . .
Isn’t that always the way? My female cat does that with my husband when he hasn’t shaved in a day or so. I think the rough feeling feels like a mother’s tongue grooming it, or so I was told. So stubbly legs might do the trick! But she sounds like a happy little kitty ?
She is a happy little one, and Brave and Fearless like her name. She has no qualms about chasing her two older -much, much bigger -sisters. And they run from her!
You smell great! I finished my sample and really liked that one.
Thank you. I only have 2 samples, too, and am thinking I’d really like a whole bottle (not just because I love the bottle!)
Little Bear sounds adorable! Funny how animals gravitate towards a particular person in a couple or family situation…
I like to think she’s just used to me because I’m with her all day. Her two older sisters always seek out my lap first so we’re even!
Oooo I love that scent. It’s been on my ‘buy someday’ list for ages. Someday may arrive soon… 🙂
Me, too!
One of my cats was kind of ‘bitey’ when we first adopted her. Whenever she did that, we would take our hands (or the other body parts she was attacking) out of reach. She learned rather quickly that if she wanted to interact with the humans, biting was a no go.
Yes, I do that, too, and I say sternly, ‘No!’ and she scampers away only to return a short time later, she just can’t help herself. The vet says this, too, shall pass.
I had to give a talk out of town last night and have been put up in a B&B. It’s one of those places where you feel incredibly self conscious and so creep around as quietly as possible and dread having to go to the ‘breakfast’ room. Also there is a water crisis caused by recent flood contamination so we aren’t meant to flush the toilet unless necessary etc. Give me anonymous hotels any time. Oh, rabbit rabbit rabbit. Not wearing perfume until I get out of here. Can I go home now?
I have stayed at B&Bs with that feeling, although the oddest B&B I stayed had a speaker in the room, and a recorded voice told us about breakfast and checkout times. It was so weird, like being in a Hitchcock movie. Why be in the hospitality business if you didn’t like interacting with guests?
No flushing? Time to go home!
We stayed in a B&B once (spontaneous spur of the moment decision) where at breakfast, I overheard the following snippet of conversation: “No, in state prison they don’t give you back your shoes…” Are you sharing the no flush bathroom?
Ugh, you are bringing back too many memories of living in drought areas.
Oh I hate that too. I much prefer an anonymous hotel room. Hope you can get out asap!
Hopefully you are headed home very soon! Your speaking trip sounds like it is a little aggravating. No perfume is the final straw!
Slightly disorientated to be wearing Ostara which smells of spring, I put the bottle back in the cupboard, will pull it out again in March.
Enjoy your Friday afternoon or evening, everyone.
We were both off season today!
Yesterday was another Pop Star day for me with M by Mariah Carey. I have also been using my Plumeria creme from Bath and Body Works this past week or so because it’s been so darndish cold out and that body creme always feels so nice and luxurious on my skin, not to mention that it smells Heavenly.
Not up and about yet (lazy bones day), so not sure frag I will choose. Happy Friday!
Hope the rest of your lazy bones day was just as good 🙂
Wearing Ouarzazate today to finish my personal CdG week. I have really enjoyed the CP this week!
Good!
Ouarzazate for me, too, today. I got in one of each this week!
Off work today which involved a GI appt and a haircut, so nice unobtrusive perfume which is nearly gone by now.
Hope everyone has a peaceful weekend!
Enjoy your haircut, and I hope your GI appointment goes well. ?
Hey Twin! Glad you had a day off.
I’m trying out my latest package of samples from Luckyscent – always an exciting time! So far I can say that Fort and Manle’s new Forty Thieves seems right up my alley, but Hiram Green’s Hyde is one for those who like hefty smoky leathery scents. If this sounds like you, you’ll love this. I’m not one of those people, but I can certainly comment on its strength and staying power 🙂
I have tried both of those and agree 100%!
OJ Woman today. I think I will wear this more often going forward.
Thankful for Sephora customer service. I recently bought a quite expensive lippie, but when it arrived I realized after trying it that I got the wrong color. Such an easy exchange.
You smell wonderful.
Well, I guess I’m being a renegade by not following the CP. Un Bois de Vanille called, and I answered! Mmmm, cuddly.
I’m on a tear in the kitchen. Beef fajitas are marinating in the fridge for supper, and just finished making Asian pulled pork in the IP for tomorrow and beyond. Freezer meals for the win! ?
Yum yum!! I’ll need to try pulled pork in mine. I put a frozen piece of salmon in my instant pot, and 20mins later a perfect poached salmon! Have you seen the Pioneer Woman IPs?
Yes, I’ve seen her IP, it’s cute, and so “her”! Hey, I’ll have to try salmon soon as we try to have it at least once a week.
I did pasta a few days ago in the IP….don’t think I’ll ever prepare it on the stove again.
Sounds like you made a bunch of yummy goodies today! ?
Not participating in the cp. Wearing L’Huile Jasmin massage oil, this stuff is good, silky texture and subtle sunny jasmine scent. Thinking about adding a spritz of Cedre Sambac..
I have been wearing a lot of oils lately – the Nuxe one is sunshine in a bottle
Sampling various smell bent’s… I have poisoned myself with a patchouli bomb and now have to wait til it wears off!
The universe continues its fun at our expense. Woke up this morning to a tree across our driveway, blocking us in. Husband can’t work a chainsaw due to his munged elbow (and no offense honey, but that tree is way too big for one guy to manage). He contacted a fellow firefighter thinking the guy was off work today and could help; he wasn’t off work, but brought the whole fire department over to clear the tree. 🙂
Good colleagues to have!
Oh they are usually very cute too!
Now that worked out well! 🙂 How convenient (although not having a downed tree would have been even better.)
Good grief. I hope you have a safe and uneventful weekend!
It’s good to have friends and even better that the tree didn’t land on a car or your house. And now you have plenty of firewood, no? ?
Once again, I completely forgot about the Friday perfume theme, even though I have many fragrances of the three mention perfumers. Instead I kept to my Iris theme for the week and grabbed Heeley Iris de Nuit.
In Perles de Mousse by Duchafour for Ann Gerard. Because my experience with his scents is that they are light, I spritzed hard…and it’s a bit too much.
I think I may be getting my sample of Neroli Intense today – happy Friday!
So swamped at work so can’t read posts until tonight but I thunked a sample of Ann Gerard Ciel d’Opale (BD). I’ve smelled great all week in BD florals. I’m saving one for next week’s CP.
Yay for your THUNK, but Boo! Hiss! for your crazy work schedule!
TGIF and goodbye to November as well! I’m not sorry to see this week gone. Ugh.
Remember your ??? for tomorrow!
SOTD = Penhaligon’s Amaranthine EdP, from the sample stash. Thanks to the NSTers who wore this earlier in the week, thus making my choice for today an easy one.
Thanks for the Rabbit reminder! I did not get s chance to comment on your post yesterday. I’m glad your mom seems better. I guess perhaps it’s a change in routine and people around her who are in a similar situation and caregivers who really care!
Can someone explain the rabbit thing?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabbit_rabbit_rabbit
Wikipedia to the rescue!
Ahh finally! Enlightened
My mom said that she knows the person who is in the apartment right next to her from her volunteer job at a local hospital some years ago. She no longer feels isolated.
This was in response to Hajusuuri. No idea how it ended up down here. ?
That’s great for your mom!
St Clair Scents Casablanca…it is BEYOND gorgeous….and reminds me so much of my beloved Jour Ensoleille…..
I got my sample today! The color is so gorgeous, the scent is very opulent, I picture burgendy velvet when I smell it. I’m glad you find it so nice as well!
It really is classy, right? my nose hones in on the orange blossom (the real deal…if you ever smelled orange blossom absolute e.o. opulent and heady would be the right words) the gorgeous honey and animalic drydown as well as the oakmoss (mmmm)…and one tiny spray is still going strong on my scent eating skin…gosh, I had better start saving my pennies!!!!! Yikes!!!!
Ah ok that’s the most pronounced on my skin the orange blossom, thank you for mentioning I couldn’t figure that out. just put a tiny spritz on the back of my hand. And the sheen from the oils (?) I’m now getting something spicy, almost like a faint hint of Opium as it dries down. Do you get any spices?
and I am hoping that Jessica does a review soon on NST the way she did with the other three St. Clair Scents…pretty please?
Started the day in Joy from lovestosmellgood, thank you again. Beautiful. I ordered a vintage Samsara edp which arrived today — going to eventually gift it, but needed to test it ? to make sure it was good. Wow it’s awesome.
Ooooooooh, lucky person to be getting vintage Samsara!
? do you like samsara also? I wish I could go back to the 80s and 90s and get bottles of this and the other great ones!
Yes, I do. My bottles are definitely “desert-island” worthy. ????????
