Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!
Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you're especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today...whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. Have a great day, full of fantastic food and the company of those whom you love.
Just another Thursday here in Nova Scotia. Wearing 22 EDT to face the 10 cm of snow which fell overnight
You smell beautiful.
I have always felt that the Canadian Thanksgiving is on a much more sensible date. It is essentially a harvest festival, and for most of the U.S., the fall harvest is much earlier than late November.
Yes! Plus, it would be nice to have more space between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Americans take Thanksgiving as much more of a holiday than Canadians. We enjoy it, and eat too much, but it just doesn’t seem to have the emotional weight it does south of the border.
It really makes me sad, how retail has squashed thanksgiving down to less than a full day now!
Yes, and wasn’t even thinking of the shopping so much as spreading out the festivities — but the retail is another issue. Then again, if we moved Thanksgiving to October maybe the shopping season would just get longer.
Canuck Thanksgiving is much nicer, IMO — better weather (for travellers, hikes, hayrides, etc.), the best apples just ripe, much less commercialism and Christmas/seasonal creep, less lingering sense of betrayal of the Indigenous part of that first celebration. (Though we’ve been horrible to our own First Nations, make no mistake; we just emphasize that particular story less.) I once forever won the heart of my second grade teacher by picking it for a “My Favourite Holiday” project; I think she thought I was an unusually thankful/grateful child, but I just love October.
How many inches is ten cm?
You smell great! Stay warm.
Wearing Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver which is much less about vetiver and so much more about cocoa, patchouli and bourbon vanilla to my nose…it’s utterly addictive and I love it.
Keeping it real simple cooking wise…no entertaining and will be living in my bathrobe the entire day…have had a stressful work year so my mantra is to keep things as simple as possible at home.
Reminds me of Le Labo Vetiver, which is actually an incense scent rather than a vetiver. Your scent sounds delectable!
It is delectable and not at all what I was expecting!
Sounds like a perfect day, and exactly my plans for tomorrow It’s supposed to pour all day here tomorrow. I plan to sit on the couch in my bathrobe and watch DVDs of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Enjoy your stress free day tomorrow
We are joining you in “simple” since my husband and I are home sick. We are going to have grilled steak and mashed potato, and there may be no veg at all since we did not plan this in advance. If I pour a little pesto on the steak, that might count as veg?
We started The Darkest Hour last night (the Churchill movie) and will finish it tonight. I plan to be in bed by 9:30
Do you have any salsa? Salsa is a vegetable. I think pesto should count as well.
We don’t have salsa. We finished off the guacamole yesterday. We have lettuce but CDC says don’t eat the romaine.
The reports I have read are pretty scary. They are advising people who have romaine lettuce not just to throw the lettuce out, but to sanitize any surfaces it has touched, such as shelves and drawers in the fridge. Apparently, this is a particularly nasty strain of E. Coli that is putting a lot of people in the hospital.
Hope you and your husband feel better soon!
Get better soon!
Robin, I hope you both feel better soon! And pesto is totally a vegetable.
I hope you guys feel better! Potato is vegetation, and if you leave the skins on, like we do, even better!
Hope you both get better soon!
Get better soon. No frozen peas?
My son ate all the frozen peas before he left town — it is really the only veg he finds tolerable. There is a sad little bag of mixed veg, and there is something about frozen mixed veg that I find more depressing than going without veg.
Get better soon! And when one is sick you may eat exactly what you want.
Thank you everyone! It could be much worse. I am thankful we are not sicker
Count me in on the “simple” team. I’m also home sick, and eating very gingerly tonight – no gravy or dessert for me!
Oh no — hope you are better today Aparatchick! Sounds like you had something stomach, that is double unfair on Thanksgiving.
On my third visit for a slice, the local coffee shop barista and I agreed that carrot cake is a vegetable.
So then I suppose banana bread is a fruit?
Ha, why not?
CM, I salute you! I am still in my flannel jammies, and it is luxurious.
Yay!!! PJ folks unite!!! This is the year I boycotted entertaining
Hope you enjoy your relaxed day!
Thanks, Kelly C! The day was perfect!!
Thanks to all of you here, who magically make me feel like I’ve got friends everywhere.
What a lovely sentiment, I heartily agree!
Was supposed to rain today in San Diego, so far nothing but two spits on the ground. I am busy contemplating all the tantalizing Black Friday coupon orders with sugarplums dancing in my head. Meanwhile, I am baking two batches of dinner rolls, made two pecan pies, and am wearing Anima Dulcis to blend in with all the delicious food smells. Happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating.
I was supposed to be away and busy today, but am home and not busy — so yes, the early black friday shopping is a danger!
Sorry you’re home sick, hope it passes quickly!
I have succumbed already and am pondering more. Not even pretending to have restraint.
I just caved and bought some staples at Vitacost because their sales are really really good!!!
Oh, pecan pie, well done to have baked so much, and you smell suitably scrumptious.
I may place a large Bergdorf order assuming debates is still offering 14% cash back. I just need to find a suitable $10 item to reach my target.
Happy Thanksgiving !! I am wearing Chanel No. 5 EDP and drinking a cup of Twinings Peppermint Cheer tea.
I am thankful for NST — truly lovely people here !
And I am drinking my usual mid-morning blend of peppermint and lemongrass, so we are cousins.
30 grand, no thanks. I would use that money for something else.
Tea people check out Upton’s “4 for 3” offer.
Same at the Republic of Tea.
La la la la la…not listening
Happy Thanksgiving all! I’m thankful for home & family & good friends & the kindness of NST. Thankful for the rain yesterday which has washed the smoke out of the air… blue skies this morning for the first time in nearly two weeks!
We’re headed to friends’ for a Thankgiving feast. I baked a cake, one I’ve made before… and this time it fell apart while coming out of the pan. I thought about starting over, then decided: nah, this perfectly represents my year: not pretty, just aiming for functional, and not always hitting that mark either. I stuck the cake back together with frosting. It’ll taste the same no matter what it looks like
Robin, did you see that Chanel is selling a limited edition No 5 extrait in a Baccarat red bottle? 30.4 oz for a mere $30000. Hand delivered, of course. Should I meet them at the door in my sweats and a tshirt that’s covered in cat medicine? Bwahahahaha!
I bet they would charge extra for delivery to Canada
I’m sure the cake will be appreciated anyway – frosting covers a multitude of sins.
Taste is much more important than looks when it comes to food. It’s nice to have both, but I have encountered way too many cakes (usually from bakeries, not homemade) that looked beautiful but tasted like cardboard or worse. I have read descriptions of some of the things they do to food to make it look good for commercials or magazine articles. The gist of it is that most, if not all, of that food is rendered inedible.
I did not, thank you for telling me! If it doesn’t sell out I will put in in the Xmas luxury post.
$30,000 is really pretty funny.
30.4 oz. of extrait is pretty funny as well.
That was my first thought. Yowza.
Yup mine too. I wondered about who would buy that?
Kudos to you on the repair job. As said, above, that’s what frosting is for.
(My sister once roasted a pan of potatoes and dropped the pan as she took it out of the oven. She and my husband just looked at each other and picked up the ones that fell and threw them back in the pan. It was a bonding moment they still joke about…helped by a few glasses of wine…)
Yay to finally getting the much needed rain and I hope that everyone enjoys your wabi sabi cake!
The most important thing about any cake is how it tastes. Your cake is perfect for today.
Yay for rain!! And yummy cake with extra frosting- my favorite kind of cake. ?
Happy Thanksgiving to all US NSTers!
I am not in the US, but it’s a good time to say that I thankful that this website exists and really appreciate this community. Being here always cheers me up.
In the morning I was in a mood for something fresh and not sweet, so I went with Ginestet Sauvignonne. Love its light pleasant sourness.
Some big cats celebrate Thanksgiving too – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=feoo_N6va64
This was So Much Fun to watch – thank you!
It always amazes me how much those big scary wild cats are similar to our domestic kitties.
At work right now but going to an aunt’s house afterwards. Work scent is Zagorsk but afterwards it will be vintage Bal. Zagorsk never lasts on my skin.
Have fun at your aunt’s, Dawn!
Hope you had a good time at your aunt’s after work.
We had a rental car, dessert and plans to visit my extended family and that all went away when my older monkey woke up ?
So no thanksgiving for us, just tea and rest, and following her around with a sick pan.
Oh yuck. Hope the rest of you don’t catch the bug.
Yikes!!! I remember those days! I would have three sick at the same time…hope everyone recovers soon and no one else gets it!
That’s such a shame for you and for her. Once when I was about 4 or 5, I was sick with a stomach bug on Christmas day. We were already at my grandparents’ house, so I had to stay in bed all day while everyone else was opening gifts, eating Christmas dinner, and so on. Not fun.
At least I smell good !
Aww, poor little monkey! Hope she feels better soon!
I hope she recovers soon!
Oh no! Years ago, I had a 16mo child and hubby sick with chickenpox on Thanksgiving. I can relate bc we had to cancel our trip too. It was a sad holiday. If you or hubby never had chickenpox as a child, be sure to get the vaccine. Dh caught it from the oldest, and was extremely sick.
Oh no! Sorry we can’t share our steak and mash.
Oh no! Hope she feels better soon.
Wishing a wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving to everyone across the Ocean!
I shall treat myself to a mug of hot chocolate on your behalf
SotD is Iris Nazarena.
You smell wonderful!
Hot chocolate + Iris Nazarena = happiness
You smell fab
And enjoy that hot chocolate!
I am testing out a couple of PPC scents with Ventiane on one arm and Heart of Darkness on the other. I am getting HoD for my hubby for Christmas. Both the name of the fragrance and the name of the perfume house are reminiscent of our summer vacation this year. We were in Providence this past summer on our vacation (and I visited the PPC shop), and one of the ships at Mystic Seaport is named Joseph Conrad, so it should serve as a reminder of our trip for him.
It is Just the two of us for Thanksgiving, so we will be celebrating with a nice dinner at a restaurant later on today. On Sunday, after church, we are going to an Elizabethan madrigal feast, which should be fun.
I would buy Heart of Darkness for the name alone…that is one of my all time favorite reads.
How do you like Vientienne?
I like it. I haven’t yet given it a full wearing, only tested it on my arm. When I was in the shop I asked what type of sandalwood it had, and I forget what Charna said, but IIRC, it isn’t Australian (and it definitely isn’t Mysore). It is a little reminiscent of cedar to me. I think it would be a good scent for cooler weather. I probably won’t buy it just because I already have too many warm scents that I seldom wear because I live in such a hot climate. I wish I were better at describing perfumes, but if you like woody scents, give it a try. I find the PPC scents to generally have very good longevity for natural perfumes. Sedona Sweetgrass lasts a good 6 to 8 hours on me, whereas I have had some natural perfumes disappear in an hour or two.
I’m wearing Germaine Monteil’s Champagne today, thanks to you, 50_Roses!
Glad you’re enjoying it!
Forgot to mention–PPC is having a Black Friday sale, buy two bottles of perfume (50 ml or 5 ml), and get a 5 ml size free. The code is BUY2GET1FREE. It can be used multiple times and expires on 11/28. Not valid on samples or sample sets. I definitely took advantage of this.
Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating officially and best wishes to all of us for living lives filled with gratitude no matter our circumstances.
My Sylvaine Delacourte samples (vanilla) arrived! Can’t wait to try them.
Am contemplating more products of the Molten Brown muddled plum series since everything in the site is 25% off. I really like the scent. Am tempted by lotion or actual fragrance.
Heading to friends’ place later via quick bus ride. I do miss the days when I cooked and had guests…just can’t do it in our current space. But…I already have the turkey and fixings ready for cooking on Saturday…our new tradition for the two of us.
And I made chocolate wafer cookies from a Miette recipe. Oh my! They turned out beautifully. I love it when that happens.
I know very few people here who can host a full in meal in small apartments. That what pot lucks are for, eaten on the couch!
The wafers sound delish!
Happy Thanksgiving to all NSTer’s in the US. Knock ‘me out by smelling fabulous today! ?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and T-rex! What perfume are you wearing?
Thank You, lillyjo! I am commando on command??
Hope your holiday is fabulosity itself✌?
Happy Thanksgiving, Deva!
Commando so far, and trying to decide what fragrance will go best with the roast duck we’re having for our Thanksgiving feast. Jour d’Hermes perhaps … it remains to be decided. Got my hair cut last evening, and stumbled across a reference to Love Your Melon (no affiliation) in a magazine while waiting for my appointment to begin. LYM sells knitted beanies and a variety of other items, donates beanies to kids dealing with cancer, and donates half their profits to organizations fighting pediatric cancer. Started my Christmas shopping early.
I had never heard of them, thanks so much for mentioning it!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! I am always very thankful for NST and all of you my fragrant friends! This is a great family!
I will be meeting my family at my sister’s apartment later this afternoon. I already made some potato salad and santa fe salad to bring over. In the meantime I am just relaxing and now watching the Purina dog show on tv.
I will be wearing SL Arabie.
Have a peaceful, happy and relaxing day. Feel better soon Robin!
Happy thanksgiving to you too, pls67!!! enjoy your stress free and peaceful day…sit back and relax and enjoy the good food
Happy Thanksgiving to you too CM8! Looking forward to a quiet rest of the day and a nice evening with my family. This is the first time that my sister’s is hosting, so she hopes everything goes smoothly and everbody likes the food!
Enjoy your quiet, simple and relaxing time on your bathrobe. I wish some day I can keep it that simple! ?
You will…maybe next year I can talk you into it
Thank you so much!
I will have to google santa fe salad, I don’t know what that is.
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. The way to big turkey I bought on monday, is still pretty frozen. So, we are having chicken. I will cook the turkey tomorrow after work. Lol! My sotd is Karl Lagerfeld, KL. For the first time, I’m finding a similarity to youth dew. Which is weird, since I never got along with that one. Have a great day everyone!???
Ha! That happened to me one year ? Chicken’s good, too! And easier.
Every thanksgiving when I was growing up!
The best part of Thanksgiving Day for me is listening to Alice’s Restaurant. Warms my heart every year.
Heading out to the in-laws with an apple/pear pie and ice cream in hand, and smelling of BF Au Dela Narcisse from a sample. Nice and bright for a very cold, sunny day. My hubs said it smells perfumey. Well, it’s perfume!!
While the ritual of Thanksgiving may not stir me, I like to use these occasions to set intentions. This year it’s committing my self to greater kindness and understanding of myself and others and greater awareness of the suffering of self and others, from small to larger scale.
And much gratitude for this community of people who are kind and scenting the world beautifully!
What lovely intentions! We can always use more compassion in the world.
“and they all moved away from me on the Group W bench….” I love Alice’s Restaurant. Enjoy your day!
“Littering” Haha! Love that part. You too. Enjoy the Vietnamese or N African food, or both!
Yay for Alice’s Restaurant!
Happiest of days to anyone celebrating, in any way you celebrate!
For the past two Thankgivings, we did not have gas in our place. So we didn’t cook anything. This year, we are cooking–quite literally–with gas! I am so thankful for the ability to do so, as well as for having enough to have food, and for the good people accompanying us for the day.
I am also thankful for you, NST community. I don’t comment every day, but I do read most days, and this place always brings a smile. I love having perfume friends inside the computer!
Lovely — enjoy your meal!
Hope you had a wonderful day!
Happy Thanksgiving, American folks, this was my favorite holiday when I lived in NYC. I’m having a celebration of sorts by having sweet potatoes for dinner but no trimmings.
Robin, so sorry you won’t be having the traditional celebration, and are home sick instead, hope you will both recover quickly.
In Clair de Musc my ‘don’t know what to wear’ perfume.
Enjoy your sweet potatoes Aurora, and thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the US folk!
Friday here, for which I am giving thanks, after a frantic week. Going for a calm and classic feel today, with Vol de Nuit. It’s a recent edt, and it’s lovely, so some of the vintages people mention must be stunning
You smelled great today!
Happy thanksgiving! I am wearing PPC Rose 802 (they are having a buy 2 get one sale!)
No-plan thanksgiving is going… predictably. Dinner keeps getting pushed back as we wait for the turkey to finish defrosting, but there’s champagne
Every year our dinner gets pushed back. Now, dh knows to add a couple of hours onto whatever time I’m aiming for. ?
I have been wondering how your day has been! Hope the champagne helped!
I’m dividing my time between my parents at my house and my husband in the hospital. He has a blood clot in his arm after his heart catheter procedure. I am thankful for all the talented medical people working today to make him healthier. Dinner is not going to happen today. SOTD is one spray of Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
Speedy recovery to your husband. And you smell nice!
Oh, no! So sorry he had that complication, but hopefully it resolves soon.
So happy he is getting good care. Hope that he can come home very soon.
Hope your husband feels better and can go back home soon!
Hope your husband is feeling better soon!
Here’s to your husband’s full and speedy recovery.
Hugs to you. I hope your husband is on the mend soon.
I am so sorry to hear your husband is in hospital, wishing him a speedy and complete healing!
Happy Thanksgiving to all the American NSTers!
In Timbuktu today and I seem to like it better every time I wear it.
Thank you again to everybody who took the time to comment on my son’s plight yesterday. I’ll definitely look for the Susan Cain book – thank you OldHerbaceous and CM8!
I hope that the book provides you some insight as well as strategies.
Robin I am sorry you and your husband are sick! Quiet day here although my husband is cooking the traditional US Thanksgiving meal for just us, for which I am thankful. I’ve been testing out the Comme de Garçon Monocle series and I like them all! Drats! Today is Laurel. Discounts this weekend may be deployed . . .
Those Monocles are crazy good!! All these years later I am still hoping for a coffret of travel sizes.
Happy Thanksgiving to all! I love taking time to share thankfulness for God’s blessings with my family.
Rn, I’m catching up on NST while on the elliptical. Gotta burn some calories so I can really enjoy our dinner!?
Looking forward to wearing Kismet later. ?
Hope the dinner made up for the exercise!
SotD = Ambre Narguile
Theorema is waiting in the wings.
Have a delicious day, NSTers!
I am grateful we have this place to share.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating it!
Weather has been dreadful here – drizzle, cold and grey. And it’s getting dark now at 4:00 pm. So I’ve been wearing Chanel Coco EDP for the last three days. Feels warm & comforting.
Coco is wonderful!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you celebrating!
I smell very wonderful in L’heure bleue.
Yes you do! (Or did, I am late)
Still with big and gorgeous village!
I’m vintage mitsouko extrait today.. I have about a 1/4 oz I save for special occasions. It smells so good!!
You smell absolutely gorgeous, and we are house twins!
To all those celebrating today, Happy Thanksgiving!
Robin, I hope you and your husband will get well soon
Sotd is Ormonde Woman (2nd time this week, this wears beautifully in cold weather we are experiencing right now)
It’s cold and rainy here and I am happy to stay inside with the pets, snug and warm. So sorry you and the hubs are sick, Robin! I had pho last night for dinner and today’s feast is lamb tagine. I am trying to resist buying Woman in Gold from NM’s $50 off $200 sale. MFK Amyris femme ticks the same box in my collection, so I’m wearing it today to see if I still like it as much as I thought.
I envy you for that tagine.
Oh, we were pho twins last night! Yum! ?
Pho sounds perfect right now.
Pleasantly full but not stuffed for the first Thanksgiving that Mr. Jalapeno and I are celebrating this week. The smoked boneless leg of lamb came out so succulent and tender that you can almost cut it with a butter knife. This was the low key day. Saturday will be “Friendsgiving”… much more food and a lot more people. Lucky us, we aren’t the ones hosting that. We will be bringing smoked turkeys, already carved. ????
Cold, cold and cold here today! The wind chill was in the “stupid cold!” range today… low teens. Hope that everyone is home warm and safe right now.
SOTD = EL Cinnabar, from my bottle. I needed a winter warmer of a scent today, and this sure fits the bill! Plus it smells pretty darn good with all the food smells that were wafting thru the kitchen to day,
You smell great! Glad you enjoyed your day! The lamb sounds delicious.
I’m being crushed by work, but checking in to wish everyone Happy Thanksgiving and to say that I’m wearing Cire Trudon Bruma and finding it beautiful. I couldn’t identify any notes, so checked the website. Apparently it contans galbanum, iris, leather and vetiver – no wonder I like it.
Sorry work is crushing, but you smell great!
I just love the name, sounds like it smells great too!
Hope things calm down a bit for you, although that does not seem awfully likely
Happy Thanksgiving, NST!!! It’s a bit late in the day, but I just wanted to wish everyone a lovely day (whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving or not).
I’m wearing Lyric Woman, I’ve got my ‘Thanksgiving pants’ (i.e. stretchy) on, and the big meal is nearly ready to eat. Let’s do this!
Have a great one, y’all!
You smell beautiful.
Hi, Annikky! Thanks! Your Bruma sounds gorgeous. Sorry your work is crushing you?—I hope that ends ASAP!
Robin, I am very thankful for this wonderful, fragrant community you’ve created and for each of you here!
A great day with my family and lots and lots of food! Now watching Overboard with a nice fire on and enjoying my Christmas tree.
No scent today. I was so crazy all day I forgot to put any on. I am about to do one little spray of Jungle L’Elephant just because I am craving it.
You have your tree up! I am impressed.
The original Overboard or the new one? Your fire and tree sound so cozy. Enjoy your evening!
Oops, this comment was for KellyC!??
Happy Thanksgiving to all – getting close to midnight, and I’m pleasantly full after hosting 15 people, including 3 adorable toddlers, who were even more adorable because I didn’t have to run after them (my kids now enjoy doing that and they had a blast and even the parents got to sit for a good part of the meal). Sorry to all those who couldn’t celebrate due to illnesses and other life stuff, and I wish you better times in the extremely near future! I wore OJ woman today, and very tempted by the Black Friday offer as my sample is nearly drained. But only the 120 ml and the solid perfume are on sale, and neither is calling me.
That all sounds great fun!
Hi all, I am a day late as I was a bit too tired yesterday, though I did manage to read through all the posts. We (my brother, mother, and I) took a two-hour drive over to Ann Arbor to have dinner out at a restaurant with my cousin, aunt, and uncle there. It was a good meal, and we enjoyed seeing one another. Kind of too bad to eat out, but it saves everyone the stress and mess of cooking. The restaurant is in a huge complex with many banquet rooms and was insanely crowded; our waiter said they expected to serve 3,000 people for the holiday! Still, we had good service, and got our own turkey at our table with the different side dishes, a big salad bar, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I couldn’t help being a bit haunted by those not there with us: my father, grandmother, cousin who died too young, brother’s estranged wife… Sometimes holidays are very tough. And the weather was so dark and dreary! I’m happy to say there is sunshine today. My SOTD for yesterday was Ciel de Gum. Its cinnamon spice made it seem appropriate.
I’m sorry that your celebration was a little clouded but the sunny day today just proves that one should try to do the best through worse times hoping that sunshine will come soon enough.
But you smelled nice.
