Happy Friday and happy International Day for Tolerance! Our community project for today: wear a savory perfume (something spicy, herbal, salty, or otherwise foody but not sweet). Thanks to Jalapeno for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in the summer herb / tomato garden, with Parfum d'Empire Corsica Furiosa.
Reminder: on 11/23, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lurking for years in my sample pile was Que from Pork Barrel BBQ. This project was a good excuse to finally try it. I smell so much like barbecue that I’m getting hungry……
I have tried that one – isn’t it fun ?
Even more fun is the fact that someone else in this community has tried this obscure silly scent
I am likewise impressed!!
It was an extra decant in a swap packet – I wasn’t forward thinking enough to buy it myself 🙂
And then hannahmom sent it on to me, and I shared it with someone else.
That is the kind of thing that makes me happy. That one small decant gave at least 4 people the chance to try it. Perfume folks are fantastic
Oooh, I have on a different, bust still slightly bbq-ish scent!
Wearing Slumberhouse Pear + Olive for today’s community project.
This scent smells exactly as the name suggests – green olive oil and pears, but is a wonderful smell.
We are just starting to see the first of 25 + CM expected today.
Boston, your Christmas tree is en route, but it might be a bit delayed as the roads are cruddy here.
I love Pear + Olive and continue to mourn it’s discontinuation. Perfect for the CP.
Slumberhouse seems to occasionally revive things that have been popular, as I know this was… keep an eye out!
They did a very limited run of this scent earlier this year
Oh that’s good to know!
Hi hannahmom – are you in Nova Scotia? I am originally from Halifax. What a wonderful tradition of the Christmas tree sent to Boston every year in thanks for their help after the Halifax Explosion of 1917. 🙂
Happy FriYAY Y’all!
Wearing salty figs…..Wearing Mugler Womanity! I actually don’t get the figs at all…I just get salty sea air….but it’s weirdly wonderful. Even got a compliment from a coworker 1st thing! (Not the Perfume Grinch, of course!) 🙂
I didn’t even think of Womanity, but if fits the CP beautifully. I don’t wear it often, but when I do, I really enjoy it. You smell great.
Womanity is a great choice! I was so intrigued by the salty fig that I smelled for two seconds before it got squelched by a sugar avalanche, my skin really amplifies sweet. Sounds like you wear it well 🙂
Skin chemistry is really fascinating! I get ZERO sweetness….and zero fig! Just salty briny sea air…..
I almost wore Womanity Pour Elle today
Excellent choice. Totally forgot about that one.
Hello scent cousin! ????
I am wearing the re-released Aftelier Alchemy, which I blind bought this after reading the post about it here on NST, in part because I like the name. I am enjoying it quite well, and am finding it to be a rather quiet, understated perfume. Despite the ylang ylang and vanilla, I do not find it to be too sweet. It’s funny–I so often wish perfumes came in smaller bottles, but in this case I wish it were a little larger. Five ml is really not very much. I guess I’ll just have to get another one before it is gone.
Oh nice! Really glad to hear it is good.
I got 2 if the rollettes in one go because I hate to pay for shipping. I added Curious samples (real samples, not hajusuuri-sized samples). which are waiting to be tested. Have you tried Curious?
No, I haven’t, but I just looked at the description of it and it does sound interesting.
Happy Friday all. Your condolences yesterdaymeant the world to me. Thank you all so much!
I caught something at work yesterday, so I’m hoping the Elixir du Dr. Flair will cure me. It smells like it could, and easily satisfies the poll. Absolutely pleased with this one.
Hope you’re doing OK today and will feel better soon.
Hope you feel better soon!
I hope you recover quickly.
Oh no. Do hope Dr. Flair will do the trick.
Boo hiss on catching a bug. Feel better soon!
Belated condolences on your loss and hope you feel better soon!
Fils de Dieu de Riz et de agrumes, the only foody scent i own. Makes me hungry every time i wear it.
You smell amazing. My favorite ELdO ever!!!
I should have thought of that! One of the few savoury foody scents I enjoy in winter. You smell wonderful/
Yum, your description made me look this up a bit and here’s a Basenotes review that proves you get ultimate points for today: “If you are dying to smell like a really classy Vietnamese dinner then I have news for you.”
Love this one – it’s been hanging out on my bottle list for quite a while, I should pull the trigger.
Last year ELdO had a 20% off sale with free shipping around Black Friday time…..Hang tight and I’ll post if I see it….LOL
Don’t say that…I am seriously tempted to get a bottle of Secretions Magnifiques because it smells amazing on me.
Ooh, you picked a great one!
I was thinking of wearing this one. You smell great!
I am wearing L’Artisan Fleur de Carrote, both for theme and in my quest to smell allllllll the Giacobettis. It’s lovely, and while I keep thinking it’s too faint I also keep being struck by wafts of it, through some sorcery. It does remind me a teensy bit of Hiris, but more gentle/edible.
What a scrumptious choice!
Nice!
I’m wearing Youth Dew, which while not salty, is certainly spicy. Not foody however.
Half credit?
Wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions today – apple, leather, saffron and rose. Not a bit foodie, it creates an incense note to my nose that reminds me a little of Parfums d’Empire Wazamba. I always think it’s interesting to smell a note in a perfume that isn’t listed in the notes, was it the perfumer’s intention or just a trick of the nose? Have a good Friday, everyone 🙂
And you ringthing!
I chose Hermes Eau des Merveilles for its salty goodness. I usually wear this layered with Eau Claire des Merveilles (a la Robin), but I’m enjoying it very much all by itself.
You smell amazing!
woot woot! EdM love in the house 😀
Adding my kudos for the EdM, it’s in my top 5. But I put it away when the cold weather arrives and wear the Elixir version now. Today my Theorema reminds me of the EdM a bit but whereas I’ve already spritzed the Theorema several times today as it doesn’t last very long, the salty goodness of the EdM lingers beautifully all day.
Super busy day wearing Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant.
Have a good Friday everyone!
🙂
????
I’m wearing Strange Invisible Perfumes L’Etrange, which has benzoin and seaweed. It’s a beautifully strange undersea cookie. It’s a snowy winter scent for me and we got snow yesterday here in DC area so it all fits. I love this perfume, officially no longer made, and wish SIP would bring it back but I have enough stashed to last for a while.
“Undersea cookie” is quite a descriptive label!
I should clarify that it’s a weird cookie that is not vanillic/gourmand sweet, more savory and seaweedy and yes, strange, than anything. That’s why I thought it would go well with today’s challenge..
That description makes me think of kelp biscuits from the Octonauts. 🙂
I just looked this up – what a fitting diet they have! This scent is also bit gingery and probably spicy enough for some sort of biscuit setting.
Ha ha, I love The Octonauts! My kid doesn’t watch them anymore and I miss it.
I’m miserably failing at the CP. Wearing the gorgeous Rose nacrée du désert by Guerlain. It does have some saffron, clove and pepper so in that respect I am participating. Anyhow, it is a truly wonderful rose.
I had meant to wear L’Autre by Diptyque, but I prefer that one in summer and not on a chilly autumn day like today.
I just found a decant of Rose Nacrée when I was cleaning the other day, need to wear that soon. You smell lovely.
Also in a rosy scent, namely Velvet Rose and Oud.
I have that one in the body oil. You smell great today! ????
Guerlain is always a win, never a fail in my book! 😉
Saffron, clove, and pepper mixed with rose don’t sound a like a fail to me. It sounds gorgeous.
I’m wearing Tilda Swinton Like This for the pumpkin note. On me it’s more pumpkins growing in a field than pumpkin pie. On this snowy New England day I’m imagining a Caribbean garden with green spotted calabazas pumpkins twining around ginger and a clump of vetiver. An orange tree is growing nearby and light floral scent is floating in the breeze. Now if I could just manage to transport myself there rather than going out to shovel the steps.
Like This is so very Swinton. You smell marvelous.
My savory SOTD is Tauer Les Annees 25, which I picked for the spicy ginger note. It’s a weirder scent than I normally wear to work, but I’m really enjoying it.
I have Origins Ginger Essence….ginger is a great pick for the challenge!
yes to Ginger! I need to sniff LA25 again, I know I have a couple samples rolling around here . . .
Wow, I WISH I had gotten ginger from that one.
I was thinking of Ambre Sultan for the herbal angle but just felt like wearing Shangri La today. I think it fits the CP with its peach and spices, but not edible. Either way I just love this one to bits and am always happy to wear it.
Ah, good call!
Happy Friday! I’m wearing Hermessence Poivre Samarcande which is a very low-key woodsy background hum. And if that sounds like I don’t like it, that’s incorrect – I do. (I also added a dab of Rose Ikebana because it was right next to the Poivre Samarcande in my Hermes sample box, and who am I to say no to the siren call of Hermessences?)
That’s a good one but like quite a few of the Hermessences it lasts a nano second on my skin..I get decent longevity from Paprika Brasil which is my favorite of all…smells like woody iris to my wonky nose…might apply it after my shower…right now I am testing several Rag & Bones.
I haven’t tried Paprika Brasil yet – Added to the list! I can still smell the PS, but it’s faint. Like I said, a low hum.
yay for Hermessences! 😀
I figured a lot of people would pick SL Arabie, so I decided to wear El Attarine instead, for that solar souk feel. Happy Friday!
You smell great. Not always a big fan of cumin but El Attarine is spot on. Solar souk is a perfect description.
I’m not generally a cumin fan either, but the dose is light enough and well-blended enough not to bother me.
El Attarine is the one I always regret not buying.
Happy to be off today! Am wearing a spritz of Chypre Mousse (aka Eau de Crypt as Deva calls it ????)for the CP. Savory, earthy mushrooms in a dank, mossy forest.
Might go full on with Satori later when I finally get dressed- that one has a savory spice smell to me.
You smell wonderful!
Ha! You are rockin the shroom! Excellent choice!
Going with Lush Ginger today. Its a bit spicy on me to start out and then dries down a bit powdery very late in the day. This one can last all day long. And since I’m wearing fragrance right now, that means I didn’t have to go into work.
Happy Friday everyone!
Sounds really nice! Never heard of this one. Is it older?
It is very nice and yes, it is older. Lush sadly discontinued it a few years ago. My bottle is one of the black matte ones; got it when they used to have a forum sale once a year on-line. Every once in awhile Lush will bring things back for a limited time.
I just noticed on their website that there is a Ginger bath oil melt (probably for Christmas). I may have to get a couple????
Your SOTD sounds like it would be a great shower gel scent.
SOTD is L’Ambre des Merveilles–sort of salty.
My kids’ schools are closed today due to the poor air quality, so I am settling in to work in a full house. The good news is that the furnace is blasting, so we are toasty in our soot refuge. Counter intuitively, I am burning a candle that has a vaguely beachy smell… dreaming of fresh air, sun, and sand.
Question for all you foodies: What is your favorite turkey stuffing? My husband and I are having a stuffing (well, actually dressing I suppose since neither of us dares to cook stuffing inside of a turkey. The year my husband’s efforts led to raw liver sandwich stuffing have cured us of that.) debate. Bread? Rice? Sausage? Chestnuts? Sage? Mushrooms?
I’m sure everyone has their own, but mine is based on a combo of my mom’s and Mr. SP’s mom’s – bread with a mixture of sauteed onions, celery, apples, sausage, hazelnuts and herbs like sage and thyme. I moisten it with apple juice and chicken broth (unlike Mr. SP’s mom who poured on the butter) and it’s pretty darn good!
This, except with pecans instead of hazelnuts.
Stovetop for life
????
Same here!
I make my mom’s dressing–pretty close to springpansy’s only minus the nuts (allergies) and sausage. Also use Pepperidge Farm herbed stuffing cubes mixed with my own plain cubes, and at least a little butter!! Everything’s better with butter. The secret is really the apple–that little bit of sweet works wonders….
The one we make is pretty standard fare, but it’s always the first to go, before the mashed potatoes.
We use cubed day old bread. Added with lots of sauted chopped onions and celery spiced with sage and poultry seasoning. We use butter to saute the veggies; when you add the bread and veggies together you may need a bit of chicken stock to moisten.
This is very similar to what we do – I toast the bread a little if it’s too soft. Butter, onions, celery, sage, and chicken stock. I like traditional at Thanksgiving and that is what I grew up with. This year I think I will branch out a bit and do half cornbread since we are having smoked turkey.
Oooh, yum! What time should I be over??
Sounds similar to the James Beard recipe we used for years, which I’m pretty sure was called “Basic American Bread Stuffing”.
And cooked fine outside the bird, we’d just add a little extra butter and chicken stock.
Team cubed bread! I like sourdough or crusty pain de campagne. Add broth, finely ground sage and thyme, buttery mirepoix with or without carrots, sometimes diced mushrooms, keep it simple.
Oysters and mushrooms!!????
And have fun w/ the kids. It’s like a west coast version of a snow day????
Too soon! 😉
Do you have a favorite recipe? I think the in-laws would definitely go for oysters and mushrooms! I’m an apple, bacon, and sage with bread gal myself, but I would explore oysters and mushrooms!
I like to go pretty basic–breadcrumbs, celery, onions, APPLES (a must!), thyme, sage, and at least a stick of butter.
Ooops, and I forget, you’ll need some chicken stock in there too.
All of them!
I like to do as close to a version as I can to Julia Child’s chestnut sausage stuffing (it requires a couple of meat items I cannot get easily, but it’s very forgivable with replacements). I can get chestnuts at the farmer’s market, and even though I curse every year as I burn my fingers peeling them, the outcome is worth it! I also make a bread stuffing as well.
Being from Alabama, we have cornbread dressing. Crumbled cornbread, onion, celery, sage, pepper, chicken broth to moisten. So good (completely regional though, I know haha)!
KellyC, thanks for representin’!!! I sometimes toy with other additions, but cornbread is always (and only) the base for my dressing.
Woo hoo, cornbread in the house. 🙂
I have never had proper cornbread dressing, which is silly because I do love cornbread!
I wholeheartedly affirm the inclusion of apples in the mix. I think they add a lot and help Brown the turkey. I include pecans sometimes too, chopped small. The best stuffing I ever had was one that included chestnuts and sausage. But they really are too much work.
Also on Team Cubed Bread! I’ve taken my mom’s recipe and altered it, but still have the basics: sage, celery, giblets, and onion. I’ve added in sauteed and raw mushrooms.
We opt for a traditional bread dressing/stuffing, but use challah bread, and add sweet Italian sausage, chopped pecans, and thinly sliced apricots along with the usual spices, celery, onions, etc.
I’m with the Stovetop contingent. No fancy stuffing has ever beaten it for me.
Oh, Chanel has announced a new Les Exclusif:
https://www.chanel.com/us/fragrance/p/122360/les-exclusifs-de-chanel-1957/?utm_campaign=fb_fr_lesexclusifs_1957_launch_57thstreet&mi_u=0fdda530aafee7e83043d8fbc4379c034b668cdf&utm_source=owned&utm_medium=email&segments=OTHER&RIID=14%2C938%2C142
Oooh, thanks for the link!
Yes, thanks for sharing.
So – a fragrance available in one store in the world for four months. Obviously Chanel is creating exclusivity within exclusivity.
The 1957 concept is a stretch. It sounds like Chanel wanted something as a limited release for the US market and poked about amidst the history of Chanel’s life until they found something they thought would do. So many of the other people/places/years had already been taken.
Sooner or later they are going to have to name fragrances after some of the less than reputable people she was friends with.
Don’t they just mean that it’s available in that store only for the first 4 months? After which it will become more widely available?
Yes.
Hello again from beautiful Boise, friends, where it’s very cold but the air is free of California smoke. Our company’s people are in a trailer here, a trailer that has been our “temporary” house outside of the main structure of another company’s building for a decade. I’m currently peeing in an outhouse next to the trailer (tmi? Don’t most people write internet comments from toilets?).
At least I’m wearing Vetiver Tonka. Looking forward to spending a smoky weekend in CA before coming back to Idaho on Monday morning. Sigh.
Project Lose Weight for Perfume is not going great, as I had poutine for dinner last night. It was delicious.
Yeah, but poutine… it’s worth an occasional splurge.
Yeah, and I haven’t found any good poutine near me in CA 🙁
Can we take it easy with weight loss talk on here?
Hey, we all have our things—some people try to practice minimalism or save money or spend more time being thankful. This is mine! And hopefully tying it to perfume will make it work out.
It’s painful, and sometimes harmful, to be a fat person in a conversation where it’s implied that thinner is better. I don’t want to derail the conversation too much, so I’ll stop commenting but would be happy to share references over email (name + doublemint at gmail) with anyone who is interested.
As someone who has struggled with her weight pretty much all her life, I empathize. However, I find it hurtful that you would deny me the opportunity to use the support network of NST to help me with something that is difficult for me. Weight is perhaps overused as a shorthand for health, but for me and my body type/moving/eating habits, they are directly correlated. The easiest/most tangible way for me to understand whether or not I’m getting healthier will be to track my weight. So what you’re telling me is that I can’t use this support network to help me achieve my health goals.
Nonetheless, if the shorthand is damaging, this can be Project Health Goals for Perfume. As you know, my goal is to better myself and not to hurt anyone else. This can be equally well accomplished with a less cavalier name.
Regina, I don’t think Koyel ever said anything that implied thinner was better for everyone? Or if she did, I missed it.
Anyway, she wants to be thinner, so for her, thinner is better, and I do think we should all try to be supportive of whatever it is someone else is trying to do so long as it isn’t outside the comment policy.
I try to remember that almost anything we talk about here — buying things, family, jobs, weddings, vacations, whatever, is probably painful to the person who doesn’t have those things / doesn’t have their life in order in the way they’d like.
I think others should be able to talk about the things that they are personally working on. We are a very supportive group, but one person’s issues should not be used to silence others.
Agree.
If it’s a porta- potty, you’re extremely brave!????????
Thankfully, NO, it is NOT a port-a-potty! It’s like…an external set of bathrooms with plumbing to them? They wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t winter. They’re just inadequately thermally insulated, so they’re just always cold.
Hehehe, if you dropped your phone into the porta-potty while posting to NST, that would be disastrous. But hilarious too????????
I think if I dropped my phone in a port-a-potty, I’d have to give it up for lost forever >.<
Good thing that you clarified “NO Porta-Potties” for your Boise stay. I lived in that part of the US for about 10 years, and the thought of using something like that in the Idaho winter is definitely unpleasant!
Hahaha and honestly, I don’t do well with portapotties even when the weather is nice and warm 🙂
I’ve become such a wimpy Californian that any temperature below freezing is too cold. Many temperatures above freezing, too.
Yum, poutine! So worth it.
Jealous of Robin’s Corsica Furiosa – I had a sample of that a few years back and I’ve meant to get my hands on more ever since. I went with JM’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt; we’re having actual fall-type weather in southern AZ and this pairs nicely with it.
Well I am jealous of your fall weather since we are having winter weather, and a bit too early!
Wearing one of my favorite Tauer’s Reverie au Jardin–very herby and vegital on me…love, love, love it.
What a wild weather day yesterday–roads impossible and commuters stuck everywhere. Still, not as devastating as our California friends. Sending love and prayers for those affected by the fires and the smoke. Please stay safe.
I hope that you weren’t out in that mess yesterday!!
Oh no, I stayed in but my sister spent 3 hours on a 30 minute drive!! It was just crazy, that snow just kept coming. Hope you stayed in.
I did. I didn’t have to be anywhere, and the weather forecast for my area wasn’t keeping up with the actual conditions outside. It was a total mess.
☕☕☕????????????
A gift from one of my first lovers, Halston Z-14 (coriander, basil, cinnamon for the CP).
Actually a regift, he received Z-14 and 1-12 and regifted to me as a ‘just because’ two months later. LOLOLOL ????????
Not the original bottle nor formulation, but the current is pretty dang close!
Was that ’77, ’78? I remember going disco clubbing afterwards. Elephant bells, anyone? ????????
????????????✌
You smell great Bear! Z-14 is so distinctive. One of my earliest significant others wore it.
One day I was at work and a man walked in wearing Z-14. I smelled him across the room. My head whipped around so fast! I started walking in his direction then gave a perfect stranger full-on bedroom eyes before I realized my mistake, LOL. 😀
That made me laugh. Love it.
It is made for lovin’ !!!! LOL ????????????????????✌
I had to laugh at your mention of elephant bells, Bear. I remember a couple of my teenage cousins wearing them back in the day.
I had a denim pair, and a khaki pair with embroidery on the bells. Wore them with Dansko clogs ! The horror !!! ????????????????????????????????????????✌????
Hey, we all wore clogs–mine were blue suede!!!
Love it!
Mine were red hip hugger 5 snap fly. I loved them so…
You smell great, Bear!????????????
SOTD is going to be AdV “Signature EDP” for the rhubarb and tomato leaf.
Reading through everyone’s posts have made me realize how much I enjoy this type of fragrance, great CP!!
It was a fun idea! And you smell great.
Ssotd = Eau des Merveilles + Brin de Reglisse
I smell like salty orange lavender licorice. I love the lavender top note in this BdR but it’s gone in seconds.
Happy Spicy Jalapeno Day, NSTers! I’ve been looking forward to this. I adore perfume that smells delicious without going to cupcake. Though I don’t mind smelling like a bakery from time to time. 😀
Glad you enjoyed this. ????
Great idea to layer Eau de Merveilles! I’ve never tried doing that but now I’m inspired.
What a great combo.
I’m not feeling very well this morning so I needed something easy to wear. I’m in Malabah again for spices and lemon tea.
I hope you start feeling better!
Thanks!
Take care of yourself, get some rest and feel better!!!
Thanks, it’s a digestive issue, so I’m at work hoping it subsides soon. I’m slowly eating my daily breakfast of cold overnight oats and hope the oats help to sort me out. If I don’t feel better by lunchtime, I’ll head home.
Aw feel better. GI stuff is no fun.
Thanks! I’m feeling a lot better now and ate lunch with no problem.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Not fun when your insides act out like that.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better. The Scots-Irish in my family have always claimed that tea and oatmeal heal all ills.
They do!
SOTD- Miller Harris Tea Tonique. Despite the snow we are getting in MI, I am lately leaning towards citrusy and summery scents- blaming my pregnant nose, as I can’t handle my favourite amber and incense fumes. Yep, still expecting, almost 42 weeks, arghhhh!!!
I realized that I love tea note not so long ago. My favorite tea scents so far are EA Green Tea (would love to try some flankers as well), Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir ( on my to buy list), Killian Imperial Tea (lovely jasmine tea, but too linear and fleeting to warrant FB) and Miller Harris Tea Tonique from last splitmeet.
Have a good Friday everyone!
You should try Malabah if you can. It’s a nice tea perfume for fall and winter.
Thank you for the recommendation- adding Malabah to my test list.
Keep an eye out at Marshall’s/TJ Maxx for the EA Green Tea flankers. I saw a few there on my last trip – cherry blossom maybe?
Our Marshallls/ TJ Maxx stores are beyond boring perfume wise. It is easier to test in Macy’s.
Agreed! MI is practically a perfume desert. If you’re into jasmine tea, Margiela Tea Escape is quite nice, and Sephora carries it, so it’s not too hard to sample.
Thank you for the rec! Added to my to sample list.
42 weeks! Good luck with your impending ‘flanker’
THANK YOU!!! 🙂
42 weeks. You’re a trooper!! Surely Baby won’t subject you to 43 weeks? Hope your delivery is “easy” and “quick”! 🙂
Thank you for kind wishes JadainGA! I hope my little girl will be ready to jump out soon. With my previous pregnancy I was scheduled for induction at exactly 42 weeks on Saturday at 8 a.m. I had my boy naturally (thanks God!) at 2:30 a.m. that same day ( contractions started at 2:00 a.m.)- we barely made it to the hospital!
Quick is good! LOL
I had my middle kid exactly 2 hours after the 1st contraction. My hubby got me to the delivery room, and in the time it took him to go out and park the car and get back upstairs, I was pushing. My OB nearly missed delivering her….a midwife down the hall ran in to help until he wandered in…..LOL 🙂
My 3rd kid was born 3 hours from start to finish. That’s the way to have ’em….
Yep! That’s the way to have them! 🙂
42 weeks!? If you don’t mind some unsolicited advice, taking a few long walks (if you’re up to it) might help move things along.
I wish I could take at least short walks- I think the baby is pushing on the nerve- it is very painful to walk and my legs jerk sometimes 🙁 I am moving superslow, like a pregnant snail, LOL!
I had a friend whose father would repeat the story his whole life (his mother died when he was young) that he had been ‘in utero’ for 11 months–sort of an origin story for the many grievances against his son. I have promised myself to use that in a novel if I ever manage write any fiction. Talk about original sin.
Hang in there, mama!
Thank you KellyC! Hanging!
Looking forward to hearing all about your new baby girl when she pops out. For some of us 42 weeks is just the way we do it. All of mine were 42 weeks, so were my Mom’s, and she told me her Mom before that. For us, big happy babies and fast deliveries. The smell of the top of a baby’s head is the best scent ever.
Thank you Kathryn for your kind words! I agree, the scent of the baby’s head is the BEST.
Do you mind me asking if you ever been induced? I am afraid of procedure ( read a lot of horror stories) and reaaaly hope my daughter will come out on her own, without meds. My e-mail is lasto4ka5 in the land of geeemale dawt comme.
You know, every time I hold a baby, I sniff its head to see what all the fuss is about, and I must be anosmic to whatever everyone goes crazy about.
Sniffing through the latest Areej le Doré sample set — Koh-i-Noor is so animalic that I think it should count as savory.
With real deer musk and sandalwood, it smells like the drydown of an early 20th century extrait de parfum.
http://www.ouddict.com/threads/all-about-siberian-musk-deer.536/
Your perfume sounds amazing. I have to admit I didn’t like the idea of real deer musk ( in case it’s an endangered animal etc). Found this info.
That London oud event looks good…top of the link
Kanuka, I feel exactly the same about deer musk, beautiful endangered animals, thank you very much for the link, very informative.
Kanuka, they say they use legally harvested Siberian deer musk.
I had to take my husband for a cardiac catheter procedure this morning, so wore just the tiniest dab of Santal Massoia. Thankfully, he’s fine and no surgery was required. But huge thanks to all the nurses, techs and doctors out there – you guys are amazing!
Hermessence twins! 😀
Glad things went well for your husband!
I’m wearing this too! For the first time actually. It’s nice but very light. Hope all goes well
That’s good news and what a weight off your mind.
Whew!
Nice to hear that your husband got good news with his checkup!
Glad your husband’s procedure went well. Hugs.
I finally mailed your package when I was on my way to pick up his prescription! I’ll e-mail you the tracking info tomorrow. It should arrive on Monday.
Thanks everyone! He’s currently on the couch playing video games, so the day has turned out pretty well for him.
I’m glad all went well!
Good to hear that your hubby’s procedure showed that he is fine, Sistine. Things like that can be scary, but a person feels good when they learn that they are OK.
I want to put on some SL Five O’Clock Au Gingembre today, as it does fit the community project. Also, I haven’t worn it yet this fall and now is the time for it!
Giving Vanille divine des Tropiques a whirl today as I leave for work. Dreading work today since we are going into the holidays. Hopefully my day will go quickly without a lot of drama from my boss.
Hope it did indeed go quickly!
It doesn’t last, but it’s oh so good while it does–Origins Ginger Essence. It smells just like grated ginger to me.
I love this in the summer
I was thinking I didn’t have anything to fit the CP, but I do have some of that. So zingy! You smell great.
I’ve had a bottle of Ginger Essence for years….I need to pull it out and enjoy it this weekend! It’s a goodie….
That sounds wonderful! I love the smell of fresh grated ginger.
Wearing CDG/Hussein Chalayan Airborne for the CP which is a sour lemon , juniper and mastic combination and very nice though it doesn’t go with the rainy morning and mist over here. I just googled Black Friday for the next CP as I didn’t know what it was . I am happy because I finally got a paycheck for a contract signed back in May …it’s been a hassle from start to finish and could be filed under Work Woes #1-100. The thing I hate about writing/free lance work is how often you have to pester for payment, small amounts that don’t register with people on regular incomes ($100-1500) and how often people with good salaries expect you to work for free ( or a book token) or for the ‘ prestige or potential sales. But today I have money for perfume!!!
Hear, hear! Glad they finally came through.
So am I . It was a film company ( book rights) and I expect they treat all their small-scale researchers/ writers in a similar way.
So sorry to hear that you have to pester people for payment! Refusing to pay people or short changing them when you do, is to my mind the worst form of entitlement. Hope you get a long sought for bottle of perfume at a ridiculous price to spoil yourself with.
Yay! I recently worked out a long term contract (I have that option as my writing is neither clever nor special, and definitely not prestigious) that lowers what amounts to my hourly fee, but is a steady unsolicited pay check every month. So go take your book token and spend it on potential smells! (That sentence sounded funnier in my head.)
I laughed…smell tokens because who needs another book!! What annoyed me about this deal was that I got requests asking for research information/opinions relating to research I had undertaken when ghost writing the book…all of this was presented as ‘just a quick chat/note’ but was really unpaid consultancy . I think hourly fees must be about $2.50
Congrats on the payday! ????
It’s always the most well-to-do who seem to be the most lackadaisical about paying, as the sum seems so insignificant to them, in my experience.
You certainly deserve to treat yourself after all that aggravation.
Haven’t commented at all this week – busy and have not been following the CP at all. I would have a hard time anyway as I do like sweetness in my fragrances – not sure if I even have something suitable. Maybe Demeter Gingerale? And it’s been kind of a crappy week, so if I remember to put something on, it has been comforting and sweet – today is Lann-Ael. Here’s to a better week next week!
So sorry it was a crappy week — I say stick with comforting and sweet! And hope it does get better.
A lot of residual fondness with this one, I am participating, I think, in L’Eau par Kenzo: 2 sorts of pepper, pink and black, and it’s not sweet to my nose, especially in the drydown. I’ve read the comments with interest, I contemplated doing dreaded cumin but because I hate it I don’t have anything available, well except Elephant and the caraway of Diorama which I can sort of handle but wasn’t in the mood.
I cannot say if you get points because I have not smelled it in a zillion years and don’t remember — so award yourself as you see fit 🙂
🙂 It certainly a blast from the past, I don’t think I would want to be without a bottle. There’s an intense version which I haven’t tried.
I don’t think my perfume fits today’s CP (maybe just a tad?) but I had to get at least something good from our air quality situation (was “very unhealthy” yesterday and improved to just “unhealthy” for today): since my manager who periodically has issues with some of my perfumes is not in the office because of the closed schools, I’m wearing SL Chergui. I know that some people find it difficult or unpredictable but on my skin/for my nose it never misbehaves.
Have a quick and pleasant Friday everyone!
So glad you got to wear it today. You smell absolutely fantastic!
Thank you!
You smell fantastic. I hope you’re able to take refuge for the very poor air quality.
Poivre Piquant is the best I can do for today’s cp. Haven’t worn it in a long time but I sure love it!
I love it when I rediscover an old friend because of the CP!
SOTD = L’AP Safran Troubant
Second time in 7 days because it is so good and fits the CP. i’m still on bottle no.1 and at the rate U’m going, the 15 mLs left in the bottle will take me a year to finish. My goal is to thunk it by March 2019 so if you don’t see me wearing it at least once a week, call me out!
Commuting Woes abound yesterday but I tried to just remain calm and it worked! I kept reading 90 minute delays so I figured that I should be able to pick up a late early train within a half hour period and I was right! I got home the same time I would on any given day leaving the office the time I did.
The Couscous bar was a hit although I made too much couscous (I hate to admit it but my mom was right with how much I should have made). I ended up with the following toppings, mostly thanks to your suggestions: canned mandarin orange, salt / pepper grinder, olives, goat cheese, bite-sized salami, slivered almond, walnuts, French fried onions, mango salsa, raisins! Most are shelf stable so waste was very limited!
Couscous Bar! that sounds delicious, I’m so hungry now 😀 you should trademark the name and patent the idea before someone else does
Ugh, commuting woes! I was thinking of you when I saw that storm news yesterday.
The couscous bar sounds awesome.
Very glad to hear that the Couscous bar was a hit! And, oh boy, do I hear you on yesterday’s Commuting Woes. Mr. Jalapeno’s trip home last night took around 2 hours and 15 minutes. It usually takes between 35 and 40 minutes. Bletch!
I’m going to have to steal your idea for the couscous bar. It all sounds delicious.
I’m lingering over breakfast this Saturday morning, I have a hair appointment this morning, and I’m thinking I might wear Noir Épices, it’s spicy, but not sweet, and not overpowering.
I’ve been going to the same hair salon for over 20 years (it took me a long time to find a place I liked, once I did, I stuck with them). The place was near where I used to live ages ago, so I’ve been driving to my appointments for most of that 20 years. But, patience pays off, and they have just opened a second salon 15 minutes walk from home 🙂
What colour do have at the moment? You always look so good.
Thank you! It’s blond at the moment, but I’m going to dye it green. Reliving my long gone youth 🙂
A good hairstylist is worth their weight in gold! I have had the bad haircuts to prove it…
Hi all-
1)Late to this. I am in Guerlain’s Mandarin Basilic- very fresh and not sweet, and I got for cheap at Marshall’s for $20 a few months ago!
2) Am seriously considering getting new kitchen appliances and teh Black Friday sales at Home Depot are really tempting!
3) Thank you guys for your responses! I am thinking of a get together once in Nueva York, and yes, firm boundaries – made with love and intention- are key to helping my sister!
That’s a bargain!
Wearing Union’s Celtic Fire today. Some people find that it smells like a barbecue, but to me it’s all smoke. Listed notes include marmite and scotch whisky, so it’s totally on point for the project. And it’s great in the cold weather we are having.
Ooh. I’d like to try that one day. I love their marketing, bottles, etc. Kind of macho, but in a British traditional wool and silver, and no I did not spend any money on my orthodontics sort of way.
Wearing the spicy Jaisalmer. Hope you all are having great Fridays. I’ve had a wonderful nap with the dog, so all is well with my world. Have to go buy a turkey for this weekend. We are celebrating Thanksgiving early, since my husband has to leave next week to visit his ailing father, and I won’t be able to go with him. Our first holiday apart in over 30 years, so we are cheating and just celebrating it early.
Safe travels to your husband, jirish.
That’s rough. Make sure you do something to pamper yourself while he’s gone.
I tried LPRN for the first time in the airport duty free and I have to say I’m underwhelmed – it smells like make-up to me. I got a NIB bottle at the last swap meet and I think I wil keep it NIB for now. Might make a nice gift for someone who likes light non-descript fragrances
Or swap it again?
Wearing CdG Black Pepper today.
Off topic because I forgot – sampling Anubis, because my campus is closed so I can be a bit more experimental with scents. The initial blast feels like “iodine!” and “Doctor’s office!”, and the dry down reminds me of the Laurie Ericsson resinous scents.
Air quality is bad here, and it looks like there is no relief in the weather forecast, and I’m wondering whether this is simply the new California normal in the future.
Ugh, sorry to hear that the air is so bad for you out there.
We’ve always had fires, but they certainly seem to be getting worse. My great-grandmother lived in Paradise when I was a kid, and it’s awful to think of it just being gone.
Anubis was very, very smoky on me (in a good way). I don’t know if that would be good or bad with ambient smoke.
Arabie for me today.
You smell wonderful!
My condolences on your loss, dear Kelly. Lucy was a very special bird: just imagine how many people knew about her and had warm thoughts for her.
Thumbs up for an International Day of Tolerance!
SOTD = TM Womanity Les Perfumes de Cuir EdP, from the sample stash. I am both salty and savory, scent-wise. I had several options to choose from, including Cinnabar, Fils de Dieu, Fleurs de Sel, and Wood Sage and Sea Salt. The Womanity was speaking the loudest to me today.
Robin, my brother is sort of local to where my mom is. However, he works 13 hour shifts at night, and sometimes isn’t available when things come up. Also, my mom is starting to have memory issues. So that adds to the complexity of the situation.
I empathize since my mother is now in an early stage of dementia and even though my brother lives near her, he can’t always be on hand if things come up. And, as much as he does and helps with, sometimes I think daughters understand certain key things more, such as that she needs more makeup of new clothes because of losing weight. I hope things will work out well for your mother.
Thanks Calypso. Thankfully, my mom had no problem recognizing me when I came out to visit. However, she is having issues with short term memory… like not remembering what happened 5 minutes ago. Which is why her moving to an assisted living facility will be a good thing, I think (and hope).
Thinking of both of you and your families – it’s such a hard situation.
Thank you sistine. Your kind thoughts are appreciated.
Thinking of you, Jalapeno. Sending love and strength. You made me want to go out and sniff Cinnabar again. It’s been awhile.
I’d be interested in hearing what you find with Cinnabar, lillyjo. My bottle is the older design, not the new generic-looking bottle.
Next time I’m at Macy’s I will try the new bottle.
Hey jalapeno. I did not get a chance to comment yesterday. So sorry you have to deal with issues regarding your mom. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Wow, 13 hour night shifts is tough in any case.
I hope you guys find the right place for her, that’s just so hard.
In CDG black for a dreary cloudy and cold day here in the Tetons. Its more incensey than foody to my nose but there is a definitely a decent amount of black licorice going on which I’d consider savory. Have a great day everyone!
I like that one 🙂
Fall is my favorite season and woods/spice is my favorite scent category for the season, so i had a number of spicy scents to choose from today. I opted for Fendi Theorema with its soft orangey cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg and pepper notes. Karl Lagerfeld KL is my favorite spice scent but I’m saving it for Thanksgiving Day, as its notes enhance the aromas of everything I cook that day. I just returned from a mega-grocery shopping trip, only need to pick up the fresh turkey from Trader joe’s and I’m all set for the big day. Seems like it gets harder each year to celebrate this day of gratitude, as Black Friday ‘early’ deals begin as soon as Halloween ends and Halloween candy is out in mid-August when the kids are going back to school.
We’ve spent most of the week slowly integrating Little Bear into our household. Her two older sisters have been very tolerant of her and only hiss when she gets too close for comfort, which she does a bit too often. She is certainly Brave and Fearless, and I suspect her adventurous nature is probably how she was separated from mom prematurely.
Sending stay safe wishes to those of you on the east coast in the midst of the nor’easter and those of you on the west coast suffering from the threat and aftereffects of those horrific wildfires. So I’ll give thanks and won’t complain about the inch or two of snow we’re expecting tomorrow here in the Chicago area. Looking forward to a sunny and warmer Thanksgiving Day! Happy Weekend to all!
Glad little bear is fitting in, and doing well ????I have probably 2 sprays left of KL, that I’ve been hoarding for years, maybe I will join you in wearing it on Thanksgiving. Truly, one of the greats.
I’m enjoying the Little Bear updates very much! ????
Ok, I’m super late. Such a crap busy stupid work day. Plus I stopped on my way home at the grocery store, and left the most important bag in the parking lot… my sour patch kids!, and forgot milk. Anyway.. sotd was Coco, for the spice, my other contender was Miu Miu, for the pepper. I’m glad all you guys are here safe.
Oy vey, what a bummer of a day! Funny you mentioning Sour Patch Kids, though… apparently someone has made them into a cereal. Not sure how I feel about that.
I feel that might be pretty yuk! Idk why, but lately I’ve been craving sour everything.
Having a cereal that turns your milk sour doesn’t sound like the greatest idea to me.
I’m actually going to relate this to perfume because Light Blue smells like sour milk on my skin. Literally, I smell discusting every time I give it a try.
You smell great, lillyjo !
Is the Red unopened?
You made me ponder my favorite non-chocolate candy………..
Peanut butter M&Ms, and cotton candy which I never eat because it is impossible to NOT get it in my beard! LOL ????????
????????????????✌????????????
Not opened yet, but soon, on my next day off, so I’m not cranky, lol. Also laughing with you at the thought of cotton candy in your beard, ????????????
Peanut butter M&Ms are the best M&Ms ever!
Sorry you had such a bad day!
I’ve been known to eat some chocolate chips right out of the bag in an emergency! Just sayin’
Ha!, that’s why I rarely buy them, anymore… they never make it into a cookie!
So funny about the Sour Patch Kids! I hope your day is better tomorrow!
Coco is wonderful! Sorry about your day, and the lost candy.
I am all in on the Community Project this evening in Gabriella Chieffo Ragù. It started off smelling like some kind of solvent to me, but my nose is often a little weird. It has mellowed into a pleasantly spicy, oniony smell. However, I may just be suggestible, because when I asked my father what it smelled like to him, he said it had a “strong undertone of soap.” My uncle said, “flowery.” Worth trying, although I don’t know that I’d wear it in public. Here’s a link to her site, if you want to see the photo for Ragù: http://www.gabriellachieffo.com/en/6061/RAGÙ_100_ml. (The company seems to be an art project as much as a perfume line.)
Excited to see what everyone else is wearing today. Tomorrow I’m going to see an early music vocal concert at the Getty, with accompanying exhibits of Renaissance art and luxury objects. I hope the weather/fires/generally grim and/or apocalyptic conditions everywhere let up enough for everyone to enjoy the weekend.
Le Cri De La Luminere is my SOTD. I am running out of my remaining sample and holding out hope that luckyScent will re stock FB’s before the Christmas holidays end!
