It's World Kindness Day. RIP Stan Lee. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Aftelier Vanilla Smoke. My cup at the moment is Upton English Breakfast with a tiny dash of Mariage Fréres French Breakfast.
Reminder: on 11/16, wear a savory perfume (something spicy, herbal, salty, or otherwise foody but not sweet). Suggested by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Marvel Comics Avengers teapot ("Made of high-quality ceramic, the spiffy decal design turns a humble teapot into one the Super Soldier would be proud to brew in") is $12 at Amazon.
It is actually snowing in East Texas today. No accumulation expected, but this is very unusual for us in Mid-November. I’m wearing Arquiste J. Crew No.31.
Snow and Texas in the same sentence just sounds wrong to me, lol.
Wow, where are you in East Texas? I’m in Houston and we don’t have any yet, but I wonder if we’ll also get some.
I live in Livingston, Northeast of Houston.
Really? We still have no snow. Maybe tonight?
Wow!
Wow! We got snow in NM Sunday and yesterday and it was so pretty. Being from Alabama, I am certainly not accustomed to snow before Thanksgivnig.
Loved your snowy IG photos! ????
We have rain, lots of it, in the northeast. I want to send it to California. It is about 30 degrees colder now than it was this morning.
That’s a huge drop! Wow!
I may have exaggerated because it sure felt like it! The biggest hour to hour drop I’ve felt was in Portland, OR.
I first put on some Laboratorio Olfattivo Alambar which I don’t enjoy at all. I then added Geranium Odorata, which is nice but a bit fleeting. Greatly enjoying the geranium though I added some Géranium pour monsieur, which is beautiful.
Oh I love Alambar. I bet you smell wonderful.
I really dislike it and it lasts and lasts and lasts……. It’s even overpowering the geranium combo.
No accounting for tastes I guess. I didn’t like the other LO that I tried either. Can’t even remember the name.
Have you tried Kashnoir? Interested in that one.
No, I haven’t. The other LO I have tried (and disliked) is MyLo. I must have been given the samples when buying perfume.
And the reason you wear a scent you dislike so much is..?
I had a sample so I wanted to try it. And please don’t feel offended, I didn’t mean to be rude, just that I sprayed it on my wrist this morning and it has only just left me, and it outstayed its welcome. I’ve since put it in a bag with other samples in need of a better home 😉
It happens to me quite often when I’m testing things. Of course if it’s truly horrible to me, I try to wash it off, but that’s not always possible. And if it’s just a dislike, I might persevere because I want to give it a chance/follow the development. I’ve always thought it’s one of the main differences between perfume nerds and normal people: the latter almost never wear scents they don’t like 🙂
SotD = Eau des Merveilles + Vanille Galante =
salty orange banana lily!
cool teapot! Stan Lee lives forever! Excelsior!
happy World Kindness Day!
a favorite poem:
Kindness by Stephen Dunn
https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/browse?contentId=37311
Thank you to everyone for wishing my dad a happy birthday yesterday and for the thanks for his military service. We spent the entire day together, all the kids and grandkids. I ate so! much! cake! and am happily exhausted today!!! hence the overuse of !!!!! 😀
Oh nice, so glad yesterday was a great day for everyone.
thanks, Robin! 😀
Well, I missed the whole shebang yesterday, but wanted to add my belated “Thanks!” And “Happy Birthday!” to you pops! Love the poem you chose, and wholehearted believe kindness is the most wonderful kind of selfishness.
aw, thanks Deva! you’re wonderful 😀
kindness is a wonderful selfishness!
Sampling Corvin’s Smoked Apple from Solstice Scents which is just about exactly as named but the smoke might be a little too heavy for me. Reminds me of the time at college where there was some fall celebration that involved making applesauce in a pot over a bonfire
Oh, that sounds very tempting.
Solstice Scents does not get mentioned enough here. LizzieB May be the only other person who had.
Ok I’ll play..just sprayed on Solstice Scents Estate Vetiver which smells like chocolate patchouli to my wonky nose 🙂
I can see how you got chocolate! Not so wonky-nosed after all!
Found a sample of Sammarco’s Bond-T last night, and since the weather finally turned cold(er) it’s smelling great.
Maybe half credit for this week’s theme? It’s not savory, but the dark chocolate is not very sweet either…
Half credit for sure.
I tried to be on theme in Providence Perfume Co’s Bay Rum, but the lime and allspice give it a kind of cola feeling so I don’t think it’s really savory. Very pleasant though!
I honestly don’t know what bay smells/tastes like; I dutifully put bay leaves into recipes that call for them but can’t pick out the flavor. I think I might make myself a cup of bay leaf tea just to try to figure it out!
I love bay. I use whole leaves to flavor lentil soup.
PP Bay Rum is nice.
This may sound disgusting but it gives food with bay leaves have that extra character. To me, dried bay leaves taste like what musty wood smells like. My mom used to make pork stewed in bay leaves and whole peppercorns.
When I smelled fresh bay leaves in Trinidad, I realized what the dry ones were supposed to smell/taste like and don’t imo.
In the last drops of a sample of ELDO Like This. Such a lovely and easy to wear woody oriental fragrance. Not sure if it is full bottle worthy, but if a bottle fell on my lap, it would be very welcome.
Did you get to try the BBW Kaleidoscope?
No, I finished pretty late with my friend yesterday, but I am planning to stop by either today after work or tomorrow. I am really looking forward to try Kaleidoscope asap. I will report back soon.
Wearing Philosykos oil perfume today.
Bitter, green fig.
Perfect
Why don’t I wear this every day?
Yeah, exactly.
Another cool, sunny morning. My puppy is drving me crazy by suddenly becoming a finicky eater. Sigh. She did so well for the first month and now I can’t get her to eat anything she’s previously been enjoying.
Anyway, I’m wearing Salome, which is always satisfying.
Otto Mi Gato does that on the reg. The home cooked chicken I’ve been prepping for the last month or so is no longer edible, apparently. He has a lot more willpower than I do, so I will eventually end up tying myself in knots trying to find something that he will eat that isn’t primarily cornmeal.
What kind of food are you feeding the puppy? I usually go for the Purina Pro Plan or Blue Buffalo for my two dogs.
She’s been on a raw diet since weaning and up until the past week ate it with no problem. Not sure why all of a sudden it’s unacceptable. She will eat Stella & Chewy’s freeze-dried raw when she gets quite hungry, but the frozen raw is better for her. Of course if she won’t eat it then it’s of no value. Will discuss with the vet tomorrow.
I’m less familiar with puppies, so I’ll ask: can’t you just wait until she gets hungry? Are healthy puppies known to starve while having food accessible?
Oh, I’m sure she’d eat it eventually when she got hungry enough, but I would like her to enjoy her food. We’ll see what the vet says.
My cat does this on the regular. The only time he’ll eat chicken is when I’ve made soup stock, he’ll deign to have some white meat but only just after I’ve deboned the chicken. OTOH, the dog is a walking stomach. I think she’d eat lettuce if I put it in her dish.
Ha! My dog is the same. The only thing she won’t eat is raw mushrooms. Fungi just doesn’t register as food to her.
Fungi doesn’t register as food to me either, I’m with your dog on that one.????
Wearing Yvresse for the first cold-cold day of the season. Cheers me right up: peach nectar, rose, and sandalwood and spice. A top tenfor me for sure.
Gorgeous! It hasn’t been cold enough for me to wear it yet but soon.
The Body Shop Shea edt + Indigo Wild Zum Mist in Sandalwood Citrus.
The Shea edt is nutty with a slightly anisic/licorice note. Does that count as savory? I don’t know, but I’m loving the combination.
I have never smelled that EdT but I wonder if that is the body butter I used to like by TBS, because whatever it was, I do remember it was nutty, and a little sweet.
SotD is Romanza, by Masque Milano
I got to try this one out again. I swear, the first time I wore it it was perfect, so much OB. But I didn’t get as much in later wearings, so maybe time to try in new weather.
Either way, you smell great!
Thank you!
I like it best on somewhat cool spring and autumn days.
It took me a few wearings before I fell in love and decided to buy a bottle.
Romanza is so beautiful! You smell fabulous!
Yes it is beautiful! Thank you 🙂
Ah, you smell of daffodils, which is great! I really enjoyed Romanza when I tried it, but found it a bit expensive. Since I already own a few perfumes with strong jonquille notes.
You smell wonderful indeed. I think MM is a great line in general.
My mother is having gum surgery today and I am in the dry down of Epic. My puppy is being a piece meal eater today. Laundry, checking out TPC because there is a sale and figuring out post shower perfume is on the agenda for today. Should I go Ubar or LADDM?
I vote for LADDM. Always beautiful.
I like both, but prefer LADDM.
I like both but prefer Ubar 🙂
My vote for LADDM!
I vote for LADDM. Always so absolutely beautiful. 🙂
Another vote for LADDM. Can’t go wrong with that one.
Good luck to her on the gum surgery. I empathize.
Wearing Civet today. Not sure if it’s savory, but it definitely has some spice. I bought a decant of this last winter and felt rather meh about it, but I wore it over the weekend and again today and I think it’s growing on me . . .
Scent twin! Though it was an almost instant love for me.
Thanks for the reminder! I have a decant of that one also. Actually, I desperately need to clear off my dresser and pull out some cold weather samples and decants.
Good morning Y’all….
I NEED that Captain America teapot…..LOL RIP Stan Lee!
Wearing Elizabeth Arden White Tea, and getting a lot of the clary sage and ambrette seed. Soooooo nice and cozy on a chilly dreary rainy day!
I don’t think I’ve tried this one! I do love Elizabeth Arden’s Green Tea and Sunflowers – how is the longevity?
White tea lasts all day on my skin….much better than the Green Tea ones that I have. This is my fave Eliz Arden scent for sure!
Oh, thank you! I just checked and it’s still available at Elizabeth Arden counters, I might try a spritz next time I’m at Serremonte Mall.
Robin, you smell great! Vanilla Smoke is one of my favorites from the brand.
Our air conditions got slightly better, which is good but just in case I managed to get into a day-long user conference in a hopefully well A/C’d big hotel (OK, I’m joking – I had it scheduled long in advance).
Wearing Coco Chanel EdP. What a beauty!
Glad the air is improving a little! Things are bad when an all-day conference is tempting.
Well, we’re back to “Unhealthy,” so no walking outside during breaks, which makes it harder to stay awake 🙂
Darn, sorry!
You smell perfect. I hope your air conditions continue to improve. ????
Thank you. We all hope too.
SotD is Safran Troublant, because hajusuuri wore it yesterday, which reminded me that I have a decant from the recent swapmeet. I may just do swapmeet scents all week! Has that ever been a cp? Wear your favorite swapmeet perfume?
I am home again today with my pink eye. When I got up this morning I asked my husband how it looked and his response was, “oh god. it’s bad.” Lol. I appreciate his brutal honesty, truly I do.
The sun is actually out today! I feel so inspired I may get some overdue housework done. It’s currently only in the teens here, but if it warms up I need to get out for a walk and soak up some vitamin D.
Take care of yourself. You smell nice.
Thanks Undina!
I hope the pink eye clears up soon. You smell lovely!
Thanks Petunia! I got several lovely new fragrances in the last swapmeet, I can’t wait until the next one!
Yuck, sorry!
Thanks Robin! It’s a little less yuck than yesterday, so I think it’s headed in the right direction.
Hope your eye gets better soon. Enjoy the sun! I hear you’re sending it to me tomorrow ????
Thanks lillyjo! I really hope you get some sun tomorrow too!! It’s an instant mood lifter for me this time of year.????
Oh, I’m a little paranoid about eye infections! Glad yours is heading the right direction, though. I hope it’s not terribly uncomfortable for you, but 2 ???????????????? Up for staying home from work!
I was tempted to wear it again today but spied Cuir Beluga. I hope your eye is better today!
I’m nonsavory, trying Rochas Byzance for the first time. Aldehydes! It kind of smells like a cross between First and Opium.
You smell terrific! And we are scent twins today! I am rapidly draining my 5mL of vintage Byzance. It smells like 1987 and I love it.
It does indeed!
I love Byzance! You smell great.
I am in Teint de Neige today. Doesn’t fit the savory category, but is good for the cold weather we’re still having where I am, and there is snow on the ground.
You smell powdery perfect! Such a gorgeous perfume. I need to find my decant and start wearing it now that we have cold temps!
Robin, I bet you smell great! I should go up to Berkeley and give that one a sniff.
Moonlight Patchouli for me. Not very sweet, but very comforting. I need it to get through another day of high stress at work + painful throat because of the poor air quality in CA. Maybe going to Boise for work tomorrow isn’t such a bad thing; I’ll give my respiratory system a break.
I hear you on the air quality :(. But you smell great!
Unless you’ve done it before, make sure to try Cuir Gardenia and Honey Blossom while you’re at Berkeley. I wonder if there will be an open house this year in December.
Thanks for the tip!
(It feels uncomfortable to complain about my air quality when so many people are losing their homes and property and sometimes more, but with each passing day, my lungs are getting sadder 🙁 as I’m sure most people’s are. I don’t even have an outdoor job, thank goodness.)
We have 2 employees who are out of the country and have no idea of the condition of their homes.
That is so scary 🙁
Hey Koyel, if you’re in the SF/Bay area, did you know Mandy Aftel does an open house at her Berkeley home each December? If you haven’t made it, do try to as it’s a real treat. Her perfume organ is spectacular.
Ah! I did not know. I went to her museum last year, but my nose was so overwhelmed by the museum that I didn’t have nose space for her perfumes. I’ll see if I can go! (I’m South Bay, which is almost as far from Berkeley as it is possible to be in the Bay Area, but still.)
I’m wearing Slowdive today. It’s a glorious fall morning here.
I tried it recently and was surprised how well it worked on my skin because there are just counted honey perfumes that don’t turn plainly awful on me.
You smell great!
I need to try that one!
RIP Stan Lee ???? I thought he might live forever!
SOTD Magie Noire current EDT from a small decant I got from the Bay after trying it at Macy’s last week. I’m enjoying it and I do think the name suits it. Dark green, herbal, honeyed concoction with maybe a bit of incense and dried red rose petals. Also just a tad soapy. The vintage was too bitter for me, but this one works!
He did make it to a ripe old age!
I was so bummed to hear about Stan Lee!
Wearing Lovely by SJP layered over the body oil – I forget how much I adore this one until I spritz it. SmokeyToes was also smelling good as he snuggled with me after I applied it. He smells yummy!
I’ve never actually sniffed Lovely. But I love the bottle and it’s so cheap, I always consider blind buying a little one.
I”m happy to send you some, pm your address to me at ldetrich in the land of yahooville.
Lovely is the very 1st scent I remember buying for myself….and sent me down the perfume rabbit hole! I still love it; I need to go sniff the new Born Lovely flanker!
Is there a ‘Lovely’ body oil? The perfume is amazing on its own, I’m sure as a combo it’s heavenly.
And yay for snuggling kitties!
Hi Gail, There was a Lovely Huile Spray, my bottle is 10 years or older; I haven’t seen it in forever so it’s probably discontinued.
Very cheerful teapot and a nice homage, Robin.
We’ve been having some typical fall day with some showers interspaced with sunny white clouds weather and quite mild. And I pulled out my bottle of vintage Caleche EDT, it appealed a great deal and didn’t disappoint, I also have the extrait but wanted to remain understated for the office.
You smell glorious!
Thank you, Regina, it’s been with me all day, quietly after the burst of aldehydes, I so enjoy the woody drydown, so distinctive.
2nd that…I should dig out my bottle.
Thank you Robin; oh yes, if you can find the bottle, it’s perfect for fall and I hadn’t worn it in a while so rediscovered it, so to speak.
I unkowingly paticipated today in Santal Nabataea. This is gorgeous stuff.
Ugh…Participated
Another nice day here, maybe the weather is finally starting to settle.
This is one project I can really get stuck into – spicy but not sweet seems to be a theme for me. I’ll be wearing Fort and Manle’s Suleyman le Magnifique, and I’ll be spending most of the day in a meeting, so I hope my colleagues like it as much as I do 🙂
What’s this one like?
African Leather, Memo, thank you Koyel. Then finished my sample of Cuir de Russie, with a thank you to another NSTer.
Glad you’re enjoying it 🙂
I have a story! My friend was over when I opened your package with Jungle l’Elephant in it, so I spritzed some on myself and passed it to her to try on. She’s interested in perfumes, but only has two bottles, and really just wears one at a time for weeks. But she looked at the Jungle bottle and said, “I think I had a mini of this in high school.” She sprayed herself, then went home a few hours later. That night, she texted me to tell me that the scent was bringing back all kinds of high school memories and that she was sure she had worn a mini of Jungle dry as a kid 🙂
Wow that’s so cool! Hope all good memories! Thank you for telling your story ????????
I’m in PdN Vetyyver for its soothing warmth. Good golly Miss Molly, what a wicked long weekend!
Will have to catch up on comments later, but I’m sure everyone is smelling fantastic as usual!!
Ahh, you smell great! I forget about that one, will have to give my bottle some love.
It’s very understated isn’t it? That’s what I love about it though. It doesn’t shout “Look at me!” while banging a metal pot with a spoon. It just says, “Hey, good to see you!” and modestly averts his/her eyes while giving a shy smile.
I just sprayed myself down with it, and you are right! That’s a perfect description of Vetyver. It’s very well mannered. A little peppery on me, but just a touch.
Sweet William by Carner Barcelona as my quick choice this morning.
I’m in a little bit of vintage Arpege today and feeling warm and luxurious.
Breakfast was a homemade egg McMuffin and a cuppa Bigelow Darjeeling tea. Lunch ended up a laaaaarrrggge handful of yogurt raisins.
Stay warm and safe today, all! ❄️
You smell lovely and your breakfast sounds pretty good too!
Thank you, Petunia! ????
SOTD + NVC Mohur Extrait
Rose, cardamom, sandalwood, spices!
Over the weekend, I wore Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere from the 4oz bottle I got from the split of the WVC set. I would describe it as Fresh Cream Noirish. I like it a lot and it lasts. Perfect office scent!
I love that one, too! So cozy.
Umm, I mean the FCWC.
Wore it yesterday!
I really wanted to wear Coromandel today, but couldn’t readily find my decant. I grabbed Black Orchid at the last minute. Funny, It took me forever to warm up to it, now I don’t find it challenging at all. Can’t wait till tomorrow when I get to see the sun!????????????
Black Orchid at nuclear levels was a co-worker’s signature scent. I then introduced her to niche and she fell in love with FM Portrait of a Lady and she wafted in a cloud of it for a while. Now, she could not even tell me what she’s wearing!
I’m wearing Chanel No 5 L’Eau from my brand new red bottle. I like the bottle more than the scent, but it’s nice.
And RIP Stan Lee. I owe you big time for Loki and Black Panther.
I love the red Chanel bottle too but I bought the Eau de Parfum.
Bottle twins!
Coming very late to the perfume party as usual. My STOD has been Chanel Boy and although I applied it at 8:20 A.M. I can still smell it now (5:17 P.M.)
Arabie again because I could still smell it on me this morning, and it was so good. I only have a couple drops left in my decant, so I’ll finish it off tonight. I may need a bottle.
Anyone either have some Arabie to swap or sell (decant would be fine) or be interested in splitting if I buy a bottle?
Meant to say that I’ve had my decant for 8 or 9 years, and I really hope tje perfume has been unchanged. It was a decant I swapped for at MakeUpAlley in my first year there.
I’m having a good day with some fun clothes shopping and a nice meal out of lemon pasta. My SOTD is Le Labo Poivre 23. It’s pretty peppery at first. I think it counts, although in the drydown the vanilla dominates. Still, I wouldn’t call it sweet. Lots of labdanum too. Very dark and gray here.
I lurves lemon pasta-I only discovered it last year when we went to eat with some friends and one person ordered it. I thought it sounded boring but his was the tastiest of anyone’s order!
I like Poivre-smelling good! The peppery opening is my favorite part.
Chiming VERY late to say that I chose MDCI Promesse de l’Aube as my SOTD. Have been craving gourmand-ish spicy scents lately, and don’t think I actually own anything like that. Will be watching Friday’s posts carefully.
