Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Chocolate Cupcake Day and Chuck Berry's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a wee dab of Mugler Angel Muse.
Reminder: on 10/19, for Family History Month, wear a fragrance that someone in your family wore, or that reminds you of someone in your family, or that reflects your family history in some way.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Gorgeous! I almost wore this one today. 🙂
You should of! We could of been twins 🙂
Wearing Iris Ganache.
My entire family have a serious sweet tooth, and this beautiful scent is a great representation of that.
Yum! I inherited my sweet tooth from my dad. You smell great.
I haven’t tried that one…
One of my favorite scents of all time. Was wearing it the first time my husband told me he loved me
Awwww. That’s such a nice association.
That little girl looks oddly grown-up, and not very happy about the dogs, especially the one up on the table. I wonder what the back-story was.
Anyway, I’m in OJ Woman today, after someone here mentioned it a couple of days ago. Just lovely. And for the CP, I can’t wear any of the fragrances my mom used to wear (Bal a Versailles, L’Air du Temps, Coco), so I’ve decided to honor my father and his father by wearing something that reminds me of pipe tobacco. I’m sure I have SOMEthing along those lines, but will have to dig through the arsenal this evening.
She might just be sitting stiffly because it was hard to stay still and hold a pose so long for the old cameras. I love her little outfit and hat.
There’s an old photo of my sister and I as kids where I’m making almost that exact face – I can’t remember why, but I was not pleased about having my picture taken!
Same! As soon as I saw that picture I thought of many pictures of me at that age in that serious face. She is my spiritual ancestor 😉
Lol. I suspect there is many a kid with a photo like that from their childhood.
We have panoramic picture of our entire family at the Christmas dinner table when my oldest was about 5. Instead of looking at the camera, he is looking at his plate with a face of literal disgust at the serving of jello mold he was given. Everyone else is looking at the camera with a big smile. To this day if someone in my family makes a face of disgust, we refer to it as “the jello face.”????
That is hilarious! What a perfect family in-joke.
Cute ????
I’m in Fracas, both EDP and extrait. I like to take my tuberose seriously!
Wow – that is serious.
Wonderful too
As you should 🙂
smelling amazing today!
Dark Horse to get me through my last day of work before VACATION. Didn’t manage to wake up at 4:45 🙁 so it was another 5:30 day. So we only gained 1.5 h of the nine-hour time difference!!! Project: Jet Lag is not going great so far. Ok, next test is to see how I feel about starving myself from 10am today to midnight here-time, which works out to be tomorrow morning Scandinavia time. I’m preemptively grumpy.
I meant to ask! What should I bring back to the US from Sweden & Iceland?
And: What perfumes would you bring with you, if this were your trip?
Are you going to the Blue Lagoon? It’s pretty fantastic, and they sell various kinds of skin and face products there. You can probably find them in other shops too. I really loved the neat jewelry in Iceland too; there are beautiful kinds of hand-made silver jewelery in the shops in Reykjavik. Sweden has lots of neat crafts items including Christmas ornaments if you’re into that; they would make nice gifts.
Thanks for the tip! We are going to the Blue Lagoon 🙂 I’ll keep my eyes out for all those things!
There are many spice blends which are used in those countries that are great treats to bring back.
There is a largeish Turkish community, and you can get fantastic Doner spice blends.
There are also beautifully intricate candles.
Oooh well then I’ll look for both of those! I didn’t realize there was much of a Turkish community there.
Welcome to Sweden ????. Hopefully the weather will behave. To buy and take home, maybe scents and candles from Björk & berries? They have a small but very nice sellection of eco friendly scents and are made here. You find the range at ang big departement store, like Åhléns. Also, if you get to Stockholm, go to the department store NK. They have a nice perfume department that includes Linda Landenberg scents, the newest niche perfume brand here. Very innovative and unique scents.
Oh well, just let it go and have a good time! I wouldn’t do the fasting, your body needs calories to support your immune system, don’t want to get sick on vacation. I second the recommendations for spa products from the blue lagoon and silver jewelry/holiday decorations from Sweden.
She is doing the jet lag diet…you try to move your caloric intake to the new time zone.
I understand the idea, but for me a long fast + not sleeping from time change = getting sick. I don’t have enough reserves for that I guess.
Sorry for explaining what you already knew!
I have to be careful with time changes too, I tend to get dizzy (which I don’t usually otherwise) and feel unwell for a few days.
Yep, what Robin said! And besides, trust me, my body has enough reserve calories to fight off anything I need to after a 15-h fast 🙂
I envy your trip to Sweden! The country of my ancestors, I have heard it is beautiful. My granny’s parents were Swedish immigrants.
If I were going I would bring back a piece of Swedish pewter jewelry or something with rosemaling- probably an ornament or small trinket.
For perfumes, your “go to” scents are probably best. Scents that are appropriate for any occasion, the things that you reach for when you don’t know what else to wear. For me, EdM and Eau Premiere fall into this category.
I look forward to hearing about your trip! Have fun!!
Thanks! Oh neat! I hope you do get to visit eventually 🙂 and I’ll keep my eyes open for those!
Sounds like so much fun! The trip that is, not all this time-shifting. Personally I just lump it. Since I barely sleep on a plane, I always arrive exhausted and sleep like a rock as soon as I can find a bed. After that I’m fine.
The Blue Lagoon is campy but very fun. Recommended. I didn’t try any of their products so can’t comment on those.
There was an impressive-looking perfume shop just across the street from our hotel in Reykjavik, but it was never open when we were around, so all I could do was smoosh my face against the window. This: https://madison.is/
Have fun. Bring rain gear.
Oh, and look carefully at the street signs in Reykjavik.
https://stuckiniceland.com/greater-reykjavik/reykjavik-toy-spreader/
🙂
And try the brown cheese. Really, that’s what it’s called. Apparently available all throughout Scandinavia.
And be careful about the beer in Iceland. Legal alcohol levels are up to 15%. My husband got thoroughly snockered when we decided to have a quick beer before dinner one evening. Hee hee
Thanks for all the advice! We have now packed rain gear and look forward to brown cheese and toys 🙂
While I’m curious to hear back whether your jetlag prep was successful, I probably wouldn’t worry about it too much, especially if this is a vacation and there are no small kids involved. Just like pixel, I think the timing of your flight and whether you sleep or not on the plane makes a difference – if you arrived exhausted and it’s conveniently close to bedtime, that will help a lot. If it’s not close to bed time and you’re tired, I usually take a nap and set my alarm. Getting up from that nap will be horrible, but that way I can manage to stay up late and then I usually don’t need another mid day nap the day after. Since it will be dark a lot in Sweden, it might be easier to get into the earlier night time anyway. I also take Melantonin when I go to Europe to help me sleep through.
Iceland has lots of lovely crafts in beautiful craft stores, but the prices are something else. This is the first country where I could not bring myself to buy anything at all other than food.
There is one cafe which makes the best breads/brioches etc. – it’s called Sandholt. Prices were reasonable to boot, and it’s nice looking, too. Plus, great cappucino!
https://sandholt.is/
The other place we thought was quite tasty was Icelandic Fish and Chips.
I think we brought bread home (you’re not supposed to).
I found L’Artisan Perfumes in a store along the main drag just after you cross the traffic light and head up towards the big church.
Plan on everything taking a long time. Especially if you rent a car.
Have fun on your trip!
Well, we’ve already tried the roughing it out method, and the nap method, and neither works, so no reason not to try this method!
Thanks for the recommendations 🙂
I honestly cannot imagine a jet lag so bad it would be worse than 14 hours of air travel without food… but let us know if it proves to be the magic cure!
Hahaha. Well, IcelandAir doesn’t give free food anyway, so we are really showing them!
We’ll see how it goes! At worst, we won’t do it again. I’ll let you know!
I hope you bring back a photo of the Northern Lights! That would be on my “must see” list in either Iceland or Sweden.
SotD = CdG Avignon
This smells wonderful on my wrists, mingling with the aroma of a 30 year old J. Crew wool cardigan just pulled from the cedar chest.
cold morning
hot afternoon
California autumn
I love you
I’m thankful it’s Thursday. Let’s kick this week to the curb!
That cardigan sounds like a treasure, and autumn in California sounds like a dream.
Enjoy!
thanks, holyneroli, it’s a nice time of year here. 😀
I’m with you on autumn in California, best time of year!
😀
Oh how I wish I had hung onto my J Crew sweaters from the early nineties. I’m sure the quality far surpasses everything that is mass produced today. Sigh.
You look and smell great!
yes, I have kept a few old sweaters for exactly that reason, nothing is the same quality anymore. This one from J Crew has held up so well that when the cuffs frayed from decades of wear I was able to unpick the knitting, then reknit the edge. Voila, almost new looking sweater. 😉
You smell lovely.
Thank you, KellyC. I admit that as I drove to work this morning I sniffed my wrists while fantasizing about a FB of Avignon. SO GOOD.
What a glorious picture. You smell great, and match the weather perfectly. I really miss California in the autumn.
oh, thank you, sistine. I would send you a California autumn day if I could! 😀
I’m wearing 10 Corso Como, and thinking how perfect it is for those in-between days, when it isn’t really cold, but it is no longer warm.
Yep, you smell yum!
It really is perfect for mild weather days. You smell really great!
Mmm, yes, that is a good one!
That’s a sweet photo.
SOTD for me: L’Air du Desert Marocain; just a wee dab for me as well 😉
Well, the wool coat & scarf are out. Not happy about it, but…at least warm!
A wee dab is just perfect.????
I will take this weather as long as the sun is out
You smell great! LADDM is sooooo potent, I only dab too, can’t imagine spraying this beautiful beast.
Scent twin!
SOTD Eau des Sens. I forgot to scent myself before leaving for work and a sample happened to be in my bag. I had forgotten how assertive and interesting this is, i should wear it more often.
Have you tried their new balm that’s with the orange blossom scent? It’s in a jar and it’s wonderful. Very moisturizing and smell amazing.
I had a hard time choosing today, so I went with Yvresse. That’s always correct in my book. 🙂
Always!
I love dogs, and the pic, and chocolate cupcakes!
I’m wearing Osmanthe Yunnan from Hermessence , I love tea scents in the fall. It makes me think of my sweet friend in California who is a tea addict and we shared many teas together .
Aww, that’s a sweet scent association.
2nd that!
I’m in a dab of Dior Dune, plus a scarf that still has a trace of leftover L’Air du Desert Marocain.
I don’t know the second perfume, but from what I’ve read, plus Dune… you must smell Amazing!
Double yum!
Twins!
Oh wow, you smell amazing!
you smell like heaven in that combination. 😀
Chanel No. 5 EDP
beautiful
SOTD Donna Karan Gold. Such a lovely lily.
Yum, I should wear that this week.
Mohur for me today. I don’t usually wear this to work but today I thought why not? I smell great, if I dare say so myself.
I wore Mohur on Tuesday, it is great, so I’m sure you smell great!
I wish I liked the edp as much as the extrait.
I’m glad my nose is unrefined and I actually prefer the edp (cause I have a bottle of it!)
🙂
SOTD is Patou’s Colony. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. ????❤️
Is that the one with a pineapple note in it? ????
A beautiful sunny southern California day, curled up with my puppy. Wearing Dans Tes Bras. Happy Friday eve!
Sunny already? Yeesh. You may be seeing the day through puppy-tinted glasses 🙂
Both puppy and the Malle are perfect.
and Southern California days by the ocean!
Perfect!
Heaven! I hope you had a perfect day.
In Jardins De Bagatelle edp. Mistake. Not working for me this AM. I think because I have been so headache-y lately. . . super fussy about my perfume. It smells beautiful, but is definitely not the vibe, mystery that it is, that I was going for. Ah well.
I hate when I spray something and it just doesn’t work for me that day. Hope the headaches subside.
Sorry Oakland Fresca! Hope tomorrow is better.
I’m wearing Ficho et Vaniglia from I Profumi di Firenze. It’s a gourmand fig scent with a herbal/leafy undercurrent. I’m a bit reluctant to speak about it, like a new love, but I think we are going along quite well.
That sounds nice. I don’t see i Profumi di Firenze mentioned much these days.
In Gris Clair today, and it seems to work nicely in the chilly fall weather. No relation to the CP, I just saw the little decant this morning and really wanted to smell like that. This one came to me last freebiemeet and I love it. Thanks, Anita!
Drinking coffee brewed with anise seeds which is always a delight.
I want to try your coffee!
I bought a little jar of Vietnamese cinnamon a couple weeks ago, and have been adding little dashes of that to coffee and tea.
I do that with my evening tea…little bits of cinnamon bark, or cardamom seeds.
I love Gris Clair! I can’t wait for it to cool down enough here to bring it out.
Sotd is Safran Troublant. I’ve seen this one mentioned quite a few times on the SotD and now I’m getting to enjoy it thanks to the last swapmeet. Swapmeet is my new favorite.
I slept like a ROCK last night. A great night of sleep combined with the beautiful sun today has me feeling pretty chipper. I might even bake a pumpkin pie later.
Happy Friday eve everyone!
Yay for a good nights sleep and pumpkin pie!
You smell fantastic! I think Safran Troublant is so original.
Oh gosh I slept so good last night too! Send me a piece of pumpkin pie haha!
good sleep is the best thing ever! 😀
Wearing Bulgari Jasmin Noir EDP, the perfume that reminds me most of what my grandma wore (shares some characteristics with the TDC Jasmin de Nuit though they are quite different perfumes). I love Jasmin Noir so much for its comforting nostalgia. It’s a creamy, nutty jasmine. I need to work on tracking down whatever Avon perfume I’m reminded of.
This was my favorite grandma, the one I was closest to. She and my grandpa watched me during the day when my parents worked and until I went to kindergarten, so I spent a lot of time with them. Grandma was a great storyteller and would let me direct her daily pre-nap stories towards the elves and fairies that lived in an imagined woods. We studied together for the spelling bees that I entered in 5th and 6th grade. Grandpa died when I was 8 and Grandma died when I was 12. Way too soon.
Such sweet memories of your grandmother.
Great scent memories!
Sweet memories!
Scent sounds lovely. Makes me think of Avon Little Black Dress for some reason too!
I haven’t smelled any Avon perfumes in many years, but there’s a chance it’s Mesmerize. I remember her having that bottle. I just bought a bottle of it on eBay for $11, so cross your fingers that it’s the one!
What wonderful memories, thank you for sharing. Hope you will identify the Avon perfume.
I just ordered an old bottle of Mesmerize from eBay since I’m pretty sure that was one of the bottles she had. Here’s hoping it’s the scent I remember!
Thank you for sharing such sweet memories.
Lovely memories.
Thursday, guys!
1) Am in a bit of TF Noir pour femme lotion. Very lovely on this chilly, sunny am!
2) Chocolate cupcake day sounds wonderful and I know what I am doing for lunchtime! 🙂
I bet the lotion is great.
Sotd is Organza, from a vintage mini. This was given to me by a dear friend. Before she gave it to me, she let her boyfriend smell it. Apparently, he said it smelled like an old lady. I laughed because it’s what I wore on my honeymoon twenty years ago! It’s more animalic than I remember, but I still love it. The last time I smelled the current version, I couldn’t get past an odd chemical smell.
I don’t even let my fiance smell anything anymore. I just wear what I like and if he likes it great, if he doesn’t too bad haha! Is that bad?!
I think when it comes down to it, we really do wear perfume for our own enjoyment. Nothing wrong with that.
I think that is exactly the right approach.
Nope! If your SO isn’t going to be wearing it, why should he care what it smells like?
Exactly, our own enjoyment! My hubby will say everything is either spicy or powdery; usually it’s neither.
I’ve learned to wear what I like. The same way I also learned not to look for him when we are out shopping (if we happen to get separated) for some reason. When I’m ready I phone him.
It’s Box of Eels for me this morning. I woke up full of energy and tackled some little car chores I had been putting off, like putting more air in the tires and changing the wiper blades. I think I’ll have a chocolate cupcake to reward myself.
enjoy your chocolate
You totally deserve a cupcake. And you smell wonderful.
Taking care of procrastinated tasks absolutely deserves chocolate cupcakes afterwards! (No cupcake emoji… rats!)
Spent the morning in vintage Bal a Versailles while spending $60 at Sephora. I am a little bummed right now, I can’t find my bottle of Arabie and I really have a craving for it. So I am in Lyric right now.
oooo..what kind of damage did you do at Sephora?
Got some lip gloss, an Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palette that was only $27, a gift card and a Philosophy mini. I am starting a little early with some Christmas shopping but the palette is for me though.
What did you get at Sephora?
Parfum d’Empire Le Cri today
I’m itching to try that one. Do you find it similar to anything else?
To be honest – no. It’s pretty unique if you ask me.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui
I’m wafting the good stuff a good 12-18 inches away and I am not apologetic at all!
Commuting Woes No. 605:
As I was sitting down between 2 people, I noticed someone getting up across from me. Because one of the guys next to me reeked of smoke, I decided to switch seats but did not consider why the other person got up. As soon as I committed to the new seat, I realized why. Both women on either side were taking part of the middle seat and one of them in particular had an attitude and insisted on spreading her arm while using her mobile device. In fact, she muttered something under her breath along the lines of “I don’t believe this” and proceeded to expand her arm/shoulder to signal that I was encroaching in her space. Well, not really, she was actually ENCROACHING in MY space which she eventually realized because the only place for part of MY arm to be is on top of hers. Every time she wiggled, she pretty much had to also move my dead weight arm. I knew she wanted me to engage in a verbal spat but I decided to be zen and just keep quiet because I knew she was uncomfortable but had no one to blame but herself. She should really count herself lucky because the guy who sat down on the seat I vacated was very pear-shaped and would have sat down any seat and sit a certain way to alleviate a mobility issue.
You smell wonderful, of course! You have a lot of self control not to engage in an argument with her. I need to learn to be more zen like you.
Thank you. My goal was to not expend any energy on negative actions and to let the other person’s negative energy implode and just go poof!
The more I read about commuting woes, the more I realize I spend way to much energy trying to accommodate other people. Good for you for giving her the dead weight arm and silent treatment!
Since we all have a limited amount of energy, it’s better to use it positively and channel it towards your loved ones and yourself.
You smell great. you have the funniest stories – I remember from my days of living in NY – subways and trains were always entertaining. 😉
There were many a time when I just have to laugh at the silliness if it all! If I took everything seriously, I would be crying buckets everyday.
You are wafting well indeed! These commuting woes remind me of studying mice and rat behavior when placed on overcrowded and resource depleted environments. A throw down is going to occur any minute now….! ????
Oh yes, the fight for resources happen quite often at work too and it helps to have rules.
Passive resistance is usually the best approach in these situations. Well played!
Thank you. Sometimes that approach enrages the other person more but being confrontational would probably make it worse!
Mitsouko, black cashmere turtle sweater, British tan leggings, dark brown lace up knee high field boots. I look like a refugee from an equestrian school, and I smell lovely, if I do say so myself….did get one compliment about the boots, which are one of my favorites things, what with my really high arches and everything…. No on-call pages the last two days. That’s the way it should be. Life is good.
Oh my gosh I love your outfit!!! Everything about this is wonderful. 🙂
My office mate, who is a wonderful person, wears Clarks loafers and the sort of clothes that goes with Clarks loafers because they are “comfortable and professional looking”. The other day she commented on not being brave enough to wear leggings like me. I’ll get her being a little more adventurous before you know it!
Being a refugee from a riding academy is not a bad thing! Accessorize with a stadium jumper and you’re the newest fave of Ralph Lauren. ✌????
Face*
Wouldn’t mind having a good stadium jumper, and all that that implies, though!
My face may appear a little mature to be the ‘new face’ of Ralph Lauren, thank you zntwsy. ????
Anyway. Sometimes the spell checker is just stumped and leaves what I fat fingered alone…
Ha! I’m used to seeing a lot of Polish signs in my neighborhood and I thought that was a Polish word for a sec.
Looking and smelling like a member of the posh set!
The posh set! LOL!
The posh set! LOL! I will think of this as my posh outfit from now on!
My SOTD is Geisha Noire. No family connection but Yasmina wore it yesterday and made me crave it! I I’ll need a FB soon- the decant is going fast.
Today is my favorite aunt’s birthday. I adore her. She’s a lot older than my dad so she is almost like mix between an aunt and a grandmother. She is the best person I know. I should have worn No. 5 for her today, but I will tomorrow.
Also, good vibes appreciates for my sister today. My 3 year old nephew is going to be going to some testing for his autism. She’s just starting the process. He’s an amazing little boy and she’s a great mom but I think she struggles with not feeling like he meets society’s ideas of where he should be at this point developmentally (particularly social and verbal).
Good vibes heading to your family KellyC! I empathize with your sister. He’s still very young, and hopefully he can start programs that will help him meet those milestones.
I hope your nephew’s testing gets him and mom access to whatever support he needs to thrive. It’s hard to buck societal expectations, especially around children and development. Sending good vibes!
I have been there (oh really, I’m still there) and she has my absolute best wishes.
My best advice: if she can find a formal support group for herself, the sooner the better. Always better to struggle along with others if you can.
Sending good vibes to your sister! Agree with Robin that support groups are really great for not feeling alone.
Positive thoughts and good vibes for your sister and her little boy! I would also echo what a few other people have said… a support group is a wonderful resource to have.
Sending good energy to your sister and her little boy.
Sending good vibes!
hugs to you and family, KellyC. We say that “the force runs strong” in my family, and we’re not Jedi.Wwe have lots of the A’s – austism, Asperger’s, adhd, add, anxiety. It’s a tough road but there are rewards the come from being differently wired. 😀
One of my work friend’s son has autism. I must say she is the most patient and loving Mom. She is a single mom on top of it; long story, but she’s much better off.
She says that there are great community resources available to her which she takes advantage of. He’s a great kid with an awesome sense of humor, and it shows that she spends alot of time with him.
Sending good thoughts out in the universe.
Well, it’s definitely a day that needs chocolate cupcakes for comfort. I found out last night that the growth they removed from puppygirl’s jaw last week is not benign. It is oral melanoma. I’m moving back and forth between tears and gratitude that we’ve been able to have her for so long….she’s a 14.5 year old Shih Tzu. So, we’re catching our breath and seeing what can be done to make her comfortable. This sucks, y’all.
I’m so very sorry.
Oh, that is very sad.
Sorry, you must be so sad!
Oh, poor little thing and poor you! Sending love and wishing you a few more good snuggles.
So sorry ????. Peace to you all.
Oh (((hugs))) to you. Sending love your way.
So sorry to hear that it’s not good news. So very hard. Big hug to you!
Oh no! I’m so sorry! ????
Hugs to you, Nancyleandros.
Oh, no, that’s very scary and sad. I’m sorry.
Oh, that does suck! So very sorry to hear about your puppygirl! Hugs and passing a virtual cuppa!
I am so sorry. Having just been through that twice this summer, I can really empathize. Enjoy every moment you have left, the last days with my puppy girl were precious.
I’m so sorry. I don’t know what to say, because our pets become such a big part of our lives. Sending hugs to you, your family and the puppygirl.
So sorry Nancy! Sending hugs and comfort to you and puppygirl.
So sorry to hear this. I pray for God to give you strength and wisdom during these difficult days.
I’m so very sorry. Wishing you peace and comfort.
I am so sorry. A great big hug to you.
Beautiful morning here, all the wisteria and clematis in fill bloom and I’m about to leap up and walk the dogs. I saw that the translator Anthea Bell has died. I have often seen her name on the novels I’ve read (famous for Sebald’s Austerlitz.) and was just thinking about all the authors I wouldn’t know if it hadn’t been for translators. Love today’s photo. Yesterday’s CDG monocle Laurel still going strong…self-sprayed tester at off site storage.
I love Laurel, it smells like Alep soap, are you enjoying it?
It always feels funny to realise that the Southern Hemisphere is moving towards summer as in the North we are going in the opposite direction. I love the smell of wisteria, very soft and sweet. Kiss me Tender smells a little like it.
Austerlitz *and* Inkworld! What an amazing woman, may she RIP.
She also translated Asterix – apparently ‘Getafix’ was her translation/creation. The obituary in the Guardian said she was one of the few translators skilled in both adult and children’s work. Amazing.
I remember reading and enjoying an English translation of “Asterix and Obelix” in high school. I guess thanks to Anthea Bell are in order.
I love wisteria and have quite a few of them in my back yard. They bloom every year for my birthday so I consider it my birthday flower.
I am in FM Dans Tes Bras.
You smell great, twin!
I wore Diorissimo this morning – it’s my mom’s favorite which I introduced her to when she asked for a muguet. I also gave her a little jar of homemade body powder which I re-up from my own bottle whenever she runs out.
That’s faded and I put on Cuir d’Ange for the afternoon. This is kind of funny but I would describe this as an ideal “signature scent” in the sense that it’s something I can imagine someone (not me) wearing every day very happily.
I could totally wear Cuir d’Ange very often!
I’m on theme with Dune – I remember that my mother bought this years and years ago, and judging by the release date (1991) and when my aunt was born (1931?), I think it maybe was a 60th birthday gift for her. I remember thinking how this “dune” didn’t smell anything like sand or beach or desert to me at all! It still doesn’t, but I like it nonetheless. Except for a tiny pee note I catch at times.
Dune is one of the most challenging perfumes to me… or at least one of the most challenging of those that most people seem to think just smells great.
I envy the Indian summer on the continent, here it was a high of 16C, not too bad but the mornings are rather chilly. I didn’t have a chance to post yesterday but was wearing Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre. Today it was warm and cosy Molto Missoni.
I love the sailor outfit of the little girl, what a great photo choice, Robin.
Glad you like it as much as I do!
That girl might be me in a former life and that dog perched on the table looks like it may have a bit of T-Rex attitude. ????
SOTD is LaP Safran Troublant because I saw it mentioned yesterday.
I’m enjoying hot water and central heat on demand with every fiber of my being. Soon I will have neither, and these are the only two things I really miss about sticks and bricks living.
I am not paying adequate attention, sorry — at your next job, you will be living in the van?
Hoping to, but it depends on the winter weather in San Jose. I’ll be back on day shift, like a normal human being. If it’s too hot for the dog in the van during the day, I will have to find accommodations.
Yay for being back on a day shift!
Indeed!
Eeek, I don’t think I can survive without hot water. I will stink!
Ha! That’s why I have a nationwide pass to Planet Fitness. Open 24/7 for showers (or actual exercise, if one is so inclined????). I hate brushing my teeth and washing my face in cold water, though. I’m looking into “alternative” ways of keeping water at least warm, without have to use my stove to heat it up…
Good investment! I would be curious how you get not cold water to brush your teeth and wash your face. Would a few bottles of water at the foot of your bed underneath your comforter and/or something strapped to T-Rex warm up with body heat?
Ahem, well, it would simply consist of using my very large, very insulated water bottle to “borrow” some very hot tap water from….ah, somewhere. Anywhere that has a hot tap…you see? It would keep hot water warm “enough” for about 10-12 hours. I could heat water on the stove, but it uses about 3 minutes of butane. Plus, I use spring water to cook with and to drink, but don’t really want to waste it by using it for tooth and face maintainence. ????
I’m in Dior Gris Montaigne today today since lillyjo and Petunia mentioned it this week. Such a perfect work scent. Nothing screechy or loud, just pretty. It’s reminding me a tad of BV today, maybe more in feel than smell. Anyway, I’m liking it a whole lot! Today is my Friday since I have tomorrow off. TGIT!
Oh, and I sampled the new Le Labo Tonka 25 yesterday. Probably my least favorite LL to date, so $$ saved!
Oh, this is good to know! ????
It’s mostly orange blossom, but it had a bit of a sour/fishy smell. Ever use bar soap on dirty hands and it smells a little sour and funky when you’re lathering? That’s what it smelled like. That and some raspy synthetic cedar woody notes. Seems like other people smelled more vanilla but I didn’t get much in the sweets dept.
Wow, sounds thoroughly unpleasant! LL turns me off with their prices, but I might be tempted by something especially delicious. Money saved! CHA-CHING ????
Sour/fishy sounds incredibly awful. Thanks for the warning!
Ew! I’m also glad to know this, so as to save money for something nicer.
Thanks for the review, money saved!
Eek! I’ve already signed up for 10ml in a split for this one. I hope it works better for me.
You might have a totally different experience with it so worth a try. Seems like there were enough reviewers on Fragrantica that liked it and didn’t smell what I smelled. I was kind of taken aback when I 1st sprayed it and thought maybe the perfume in the spray tube got funky so sprayed a blotter a couple of times and then repeated, but it still smelled the same to me. I’ll be curious to hear your impressions of it!
I agree, they do have the same feel. The feel of perfect!???? enjoy your day off tomorrow.
I’m sniffing my arm now and now they actually now smell alike to me! But, yes, they’re both rather perfect ????
Thanks! I’m going to a new GI doctor to schedule a colonoscopy! That should be fun ????
(too many “nows” there, lol)
You smell wonderful today!
Thanks for taking one for the team. I haven’t tried many of the LL scents but Ylang and Iris are my favs. I have a decant of Ylang but think I need a travel of Iris too keep it company. ????
Thanks for the inspiration ????Ylang and Iris are the standouts for me, too, and the only ones I spent money on (the liquid balm roller ball, so not as bad $wise).
Ambrette and Aldehyde I would own in theory…
No big rush for me to try that Le Labo then!
Hey, ya never know! Some people described it as warm and resinous while others described it as light and fresh so the perceptions are all over the map. I’m the only one who got soapy fish ????????
A spring day here, after a nasty relapse to winter over the last couple of weeks. I’ve also changed my hair colour from a pinky-red to blond, which opens up a whole new world of colour, so I’m wearing a yellow jacket today that I haven’t worn for a while. Both the day and the jacket will go well with my choice of Chamade.
Yay for spring, and you smell perfect!
I like the sound of your hair. I passed through Wellington last week during the southerly and it was bumpy! Nice now, though.
I waited in an hour-long line on Monday in Toronto Pearson Airport to check in, and the woman in front of me was a Kiwi on a big tour–leaving to go to LA after flying to Vancouver and taking the train across Canada. Very interesting woman and she is from Christchurch. She was so much fun to talk to that the hour of waiting really sped by, and she also met up with some Aussies in the line near us and they were comparing notes on their trip. The guys were going to Disney World and she was going to Universal Studios. Not sure these destinations show our country in the best light, but hey!
I forgot to say, she works at the Humane Society, so we mostly traded cat and animal stories!
Finished my travel spray of Ann Gerard Rose Cut. THUNK!!!!
Yesterday night I made a big pot of creamy pumpkin soup and 2 apple pumpkin pies with cinnamon and raisins- NO NEED FOR COOKING TODAY!!!!
Apple pumpkin? How did I not know this existed?! Sounds delicious ????
I have never made a combo apple pumpkin pie either, and that really does sound good. Recipe, plyushka?
+2 for recipe request, please!
Will do! 🙂
Hmmm, I will need some time to write it- the recipe is in Russian and I have to convert some measurements.
OOOOPS! Apples and pumpkin! Sorry for the confusion!
Oh good, I thought I was really missing out!????
I can taste test anytime
Please come over- I have plenty to share!
I made stuffed artichokes last weekend. It’s one of the few things that my husband will eat left over. It’s been great this week. I only cooked 3 times! Your pie recipe sounds yummy.
Now this sounds amazing! I have never cooked artichokes, it feels a little intimidating, because I have no idea how to pick them. I grew up in Russia and we didn’t have any artichokes in stores or markets, they seem a little exotic to me. I only tried the pickled ones and they were pretty good, I imagine the homemade artichokes would be beyond delicious.
Can’t take any credit, it is my late MIL’s recipe. She was a fabulous cook. I have fond memories of watching her cook stuffed artichokes on Saturday for Sunday dinner, when the whole family would gather. The artichokes that I see in my local market tend to be a little dried up. They develop brown areas and the leaves are curled. I look for artichokes that are as green as possible with tight leaves and not rubbery. It’s several hours of work so it isn’t worth the effort if the artichokes are good.
Aren’t good….
What a lovely memory of your MIL! My mom is a fabulous cook as well, whatever she makes turns out delicious.
Of course you deserve a credit since you are the one who made a dish!
Thank you so much for describing how to pick good artichokes- I hope one day I’ll cook them.
Will you please share your recipe?
I am not stranger to making time consuming dishes- this Monday I spent about 4 hours making whole lot of meat raviolis.
Hmmm. If you email me. llombardi underscore symbol 42 at the hawtmale.
It’s too much to post here. I have separate directions for the stuffing.
Ooooooh, those stuffed artichokes sound yummy! ????
They are pretty awesome. I make them seasonally for my husband, probably wouldn’t bother for myself even though I love them. It makes him happy.
Usually if we have artichokes at home they are steamed and gobbled down with a vinaigrette. It’s nearly as time consuming as picking blue crabs in Maryland. I’ve also had baby artichokes in salads and as a pizza topping at restaurants.
That sounds great too!
Au coeur du Desert today, just a tiny spritz from a tester. Lasted for nearly eight hours….One of my receptionists loved it, für other one not so much ????
Scent sibling!
You smelled great-that stuff lasts like 24 hours on me. And one of your receptionists has great taste!
Down into the low forties (high thirties with wind chill) and it is time for cold weather scents. Today I’m wearing DSH Kohl Gris
Airport perfume update: hit up duty free and tried on Terre d’Hermes Eau Intense de Vetiver or whatever. I love it! It’s been on me for like 20 min and still smells fabulously vetivery. Of course, I’m no fan of the original.
Also checked out the new Jo Malones. The SA was quite b****y, maybe because I am wearing leggings and Uggs? (My flight uniform!) Anyway, I tried on more things in order to annoy her. The new jasmine/marigold is pretty nice, Orange Bitters was pretty interesting, and the Moss and Snowdrop or whatever was super boring. Gave myself a nice spray of Orange Blossom, much to the SA’s annoyance.
Glad to hear that some of the stuff you sprayed was worth the skin time! ⏳
Sounds like the last JM SA I dealt with. I got my revenge by hosing myself down with the $375 LE White Musk & Rose tester she didn’t want to give me a sample of.
Love it!
Sephora has the Hermes so maybe wait for the discount code, usually comes out in November.
Also, with the SA, I would have done what you did and, on top of that, leave the tester strips all over, switch some of the testers around and turn some of them around so the name of the perfume is not visible.
Yay to all of it. One of these days I will go try that Orange Bitters, or not. Glad to hear Snowdrop is boring because I almost certainly won’t get to the store soon enough to smell that one.
What a crazy busy day at work.
Sotd is Vetiver extraordinaire.
Perfect centering fragrance for crazy busy! Hope it is better tomorrow.
That’s a wonderful one! You smell great, and I’m really enjoying your daily “inktober” Instagram posts! Ah, to be so talented…!
Trying to return to an even keel today. Last night, the antivirus software on my laptop detected a couple of rather nasty Trojans. Then my web browser started acting strangely. I spent a decent chunk of time trying to get rid of the invaders. Not sure where the malware came from… I don’t open strange emails, and I am reasonably cautious (i think!) when surfing the Internets. That brings up the unsettling possibility that some of the sites I regularly visit might be infected. Bleah!
SOTD = Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Nectar EdP, from the sample stash. Lots of tonka in this one. It has a similar vibe to, of all things, Poison Girl EdT. I rather like it. Curiouser and curiouser!
On no! At least you knew what to do to fix the issues plaguing your computer!
Yeah, but it was not what I would call fun. SOP is “Nuke it from orbit!” Which means running a few different programs to make sure that the nasties have been quarantined and are not active. It’s why I have extra anti-virus and anti-malware programs running on my computer.
Wow! I am impressed that you know what to do. I would panic, maybe cry, and then get a new one, lol.
Heh, I’ve kind of had to learn how to do some of this stuff. Mr. Jalapeno can’t be my tech support all the time. ????
Same here.
Ha! Me too! In fact, I need a new one because I have all kinds of stuff in my laptop, which is why I never use it????
That Flowerbomb flanker sounds really good! Look at you – the malware warrior!
This happened to me a few months ago while surfing around a bunch of sewing sites…and it made me extra mad because I don’t even sew, and jeez, if you can’t safely look at circle skirts what is left?? Anyway, hope you get it all cleaned up.
I’m here late because I went to the university today as a guest for a colleague’s class on film and philosophy. They were watching Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion”, which I’ve written about. Fortunately, the young people there were quite attentive and talkative about it, though it’s in b&w and very slow-paced–not at all like what they’re used to now. I had an interesting discussion in the break with a young woman in the restroom who had never heard of Catherine Deneuve before. Whew! Trying to explain who she was, and what she meant really taxed my abilities. I told them to watch “The Hunger” featuring her with David Bowie as blond elegant vampires. Golly I’m old. 🙁
SotD is Promesse de l”Aube, which has been mentioned on here lately. Gorgeous perfume!
I loved Repulsion (and The Hunger) so I’m old with you. ???? Sounds like a fun experience though.
The Hunger!!! I love that movie. You gave her great advice.
Nice! And they will be old enough to pass on wisdom too some day 🙂
Today started out so well – it was our first sub 70 degree day since April. Yay!
Then it went horribly, farcically wrong. Let’s just say that in one day I started a feud with the drama department, had to deal with the classroom above me being flooded and having the ceiling tiles in my classroom suddenly collapse (on top of students), had to act as an emergency physics teacher when our current one had to be taken to the ER after passing out, subbed for another class where no work had been left for the students, and had to explain to my own students via e-mail why they were getting a sub while I was in the building.
I was wearing Like This. At least I smelled bloody amazing.
Wow, what else could have gone wrong? I hope tomorrow is pleasant and uneventful!
A wild boar could have run through the room? That’s all I can think of.
Holy cow! Sounds like you had some gremlins at your school today.
Wow. That is definitely stranger than something any writer could come up with! I hope that you have a nice boring day tomorrow!
Whoa, sounds stressful (and bizarre)!! I think a mental health day might he in order.
oh goodness, what a day! Glad you were smelling fabulous Like This.
Wowzer! You deserve another chocolate cupcake day!
Holy toledo. Sending you a virtual stiff drink of your choice.
Holy Krakatoa, Batman! I think a boar running through your classroom would count as comic relief on a day like today. Hope tomorrow is the polar opposite for you ????????
SOTD was Sballo by Bruno Acampora. Love this one so much. Now I’ll be reading from the bottom up.
Infusion d’Iris, but it faded to almost nothing. Gotta remember to put my spray of n.5 edp in my purse for post-work application.
Last night i wore coco noir, which was delightful.
I just had a couple squares of dark chocolate. And it’s my Friday!
For surviving the week I rewarded myself with some vintage Chanel No 19 EDT on one side and current No 19 on the other.
Sending good thoughts to all those struggling now. My very good friend is a basket case with worry about her doggie. They had tests done today so should hear back tomorrow.
