Friday, plus World Egg Day! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's colors for Fall 2018.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Fall rolled into town last night while I was sleeping. I'm saying goodbye to summer in Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers, which starts off a realistic Russet Orange and slowly burns down to Ceylon Yellow.
Reminder: on 10/19, for Family History Month, wear a fragrance that someone in your family wore, or that reminds you of someone in your family, or that reflects your family history in some way.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
☕☕☕????????????
Beloved Amouage (Woman)
A flower-filled honeymoon suite which has had a Do Not Disturb sign hung on the door for the past 72 hours. ????
????????????✌
Hah! Great description Bear.
You must have read Persolaise’s review of Beloved 😉
Nope, no plagiarism, all ME. ????
Just a case of two great minds thinking alike!
And you smell wonderful.
Thanks for coming out of your honeymoon suit to post on NST ????
Well now I gotta try it????
Yeah +1 Lillyjo. ! I keep putting it IN and then taking it OUT of my cart!
I will test it at Scent Bar with my daughter in 2 weeks. There are 12 I want to sample and DONT Tell DONATELLA because I have 2 full bottles already in my cart! Trick or Treat ! I should bring a BIG candy bag!????????????
Bring the plastic pumpkin bucket!????
Hi Bear, I love the description!
Naughty and nice!
You smell fan-freaking-tastic!
Good Morning Everyone!
SOTD- Tom Ford Sahara Noir (I smell fab!), it sort of matches Ceylon Yellow, I would just add tons of golden sparkles to this color. It also matches the current fall weather 🙂
Perfect timing for such a fun community project, Robin! I finally put away my summer perfumes and took out fall fragrances. This week I was wearing Marni Marni and Rose Cut (spicy rose theme?) and plan to continue with ambers and incenses.
mmmmm. I love SN. You smell divine.
Thank you! Returning a compliment- you smell great in Parfum Sacre! I have a decant and it will get some attention this season:)
For me that perfume smelled better on my clothes than on my skin
I love it on my skin, my clothes, my hair. I love it everywhere!
You smell so opulent in Sahara Noir.
Thank you Aurora! SN is very opulent indeed!
Glad you liked it!
Oh, I enjoyed it! Plus this time we had multiple options, instead of just one color- much easier to find a match.
Ah, Friday. I chose Cabochard to match Ceylon Yellow, although it’s occurred to me that maybe I only think that because it’s the color of the juice! Anyway it’s one of my very favorite favorites, so can’t be wrong.
Cabochard is wonderful, Regina, you smell great.
Also a favourite here. It reminds me of my godmother (recently passed away at 84) who always smelled of “scent” and powder and when she kissed you (always on the lips), her fuchsia lipstick -the same colour for as long as I knew her- had a very particular “make-up” smell. She also had only one, but a good one, leather handbag in which she frequently rummaged for her embroidered handkerchief.
Sorry to break Ceylon Yellow streak.
I am in Guerlain Insolence EDP for Ultraviolet.
Twins
I haven’t tried this Guerlain yet but it’s on my radar!
I prefer the EdP to the EdT
oh, that’s a great combo. I’m unscented so far today and may join you. 🙂
Ha, I’m also in Insolence EdP for Ultraviolet. This perfume really is magic.
Go team Insolence/Ultraviolet!
Twins!
I’m bringing back the Ceylon Yellow in Timbuktu!
You’re making me yearn for Timbuktu, good matching color too.
Ooh lovely, Timbuktu is going to be my next perfume purchase!
Yum. Perfect weather for it here.
Blue skies!! No humidity!! 60 degrees!!
I will be participating after I shower by wearing Insolence. About as Ultra Violet as can be. Such a pretty day deserves some brashness.
And it will drown out the memory of the new cat food I tried this morning. They’re all getting so dang finicky. Could possibly be the stinkiest food I’ve ever opened. Even the shy, formal feral (who thinks I’m a serial killer) came into the kitchen to check out the smell. Of course, they all loved it. Conformation my nose works…except for smelling Lovely.
That weather sounds perfect! Enjoy.????
Thinks you’re a serial killer! Lol????
How did I miss all the other Ultra Violets? Go team, except I’m in EdT. So, so brash.
Gotta love cats ????????
Thinks you’re a serial killer has to be the best line I’ve heard today. We’ve got one of those ‘shy feral cats’, a pastel calico with lime green eyes.
I think she really believes we’ll eat her if we get our hands on her.
We won’t, but we’ll certainly be tempted to squish her to pieces!
Ours is calico also. It’s not “us” though. She treats my husband like he is made of catnip. Adores him.
After a rough morning, the weather turned beeyootiful !
Azemour – you smell gorgeous, Robin! I’m in MDCI Promesse de l’Aube, which is new to me so I’m not settled into it fully yet, but which skews a bit Ceylon yellow on me … at first. It develops as time goes on, but I can’t remember well enough this morning to make a second color pairing.
Why thank you — and we are color twins 🙂
You smell wonderful, Promesse feels kind of orange to me, or golden. A golden glow.
Wearing La Myrrhe on this cool, rain soaked day.
Perfect match for Red Pear.
I have really skewed to the left side of these colours this week – interesting as I prefer the right hand side in a strictly colour sense.
Yes, surprised I did not do a week of purple.
I’m in the beautiful breadiness that is Bois Farine, thanks to Regina! On my way to see my dad and sister, and possibly have a father – daughter workout at his YMCA.
Aww, nice! Enjoy your time with your dad!
You smell great, and love the idea of a father daughter workout!
Diptique Volutes for Martini Olive. Tea for two would have worked even better for Ceylon yellow but my hand slipped!
You smell great!
Thank you! I wanted it for a long time, and finally got it as a bday gift!
Happy Birthday! Always nice to get what one wants.
I’m in Rose Flash by Tauerville – definitely Red Pear. Winter is already arriving where I live and RF is keeping me happy
Oh, no for winter arriving already, hope you will have more lovely fall days.
I hope so too – winter here is loooong and very dark
Yum yum yum I LOVE Rose Flash 🙂
Yum yum is exactly what I think – this is a Rose I can think my teeth into
Ooh, Rose Flash is lovely. Definitely suits cooler weather.
Bucoliques de Provence for Crocus Petal. It smells heavenly, although not quite as good as the real Provence, but then again, what does?
Summer is back!
In Eau de narcisse bleu, Hermès.
It does not match any of the pantone colours above. Its more of a blue-ish/purple grey.
Almost weekend!!!
Isn’t it wonderful outside? Better than this summer, and you smell wonderful, Narcisse bleu is one of the best Hermès colognes.
I love this time of year….the ligjt of a low sun is so beautiful. And thank you yes, this cologne was love at first sniff for me!
I only recently tried the Narcisse Bleu. It’s really good.
Ditto to Lizzie B.
I’m wearing Au The Rouge, which I suppose could match either red pear or valiant poppy. It feels more like red pear.
Perfect time of year of The Rouge.
I meant for The Rouge of course.
Arbole Arbole, which I suppose would be closest to martini olive. Maybe I am too literal since the juice itself is a green hue. Oh well, I smell yummy nonetheless.
Today is day 2 of my mini staycation and yesterday I kicked it off with a manicure. I haven’t had one in forever and maybe with 8 days of not washing my hands a gazillion times a day(occupational hazard) they just might stay nice. Today is errands and picking up ingredients to make homemade pizzas tonight. Friday has traditionally been pizza night in our house since the kids were little. Trying to keep the tradition alive, even though we are down to just one kid at home now.????
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell great
Friday has been pizza night for our whole marriage, pre and post kids!????
Enjoy the pizza! And the rest of the starvation. Smellin’ good.
Mani/pedis are the best! I rarely get them, but when I do, I could rule the world! Pizza Friday is a great family tradition. Homemade pizza is the cherry on top. Enjoy your staycation✌????
Mohur extrait today, a combo of dark and bright red. So pretty. Dreary fall day, I need a little trip to somewhere sunny. Commuting audiobook is A Sunburned Country, a cheerful sort of travelogue of Australian eccentricities by Bill Bryson. Well worth a listen or look. Laughing and learning some things about our cousins down under of which I was unaware. Makes the commute one of the high points of my day. Along with this gorgeous perfume of course….
I love Bill Bryson! If you haven’t read “A Short History of Nearly Everything,” I highly recommend it. Haven’t seen Mohur mentioned in a while. You smell fabulous!
Hi Deva!
I will look for that book…
Joining you and Deva in my fondness for Bill Bryson. My favorite is Notes from a Small Island 🙂
I will look for this one too! This is the first of his I have read. Glad to have more recommendations. Has your package arrived yet, Koyel?
No, not yet 🙁 But I will certainly let you know as soon as it does! (Perhaps it is waiting at home for me even now??)
I am in Shalimar today
Today, my father would of been 77 years old… happy birthday where ever you are. If I had some Boucheron I would be in that, the cologne he loved
Boucheron for men is gorgeous! Happy birthday to dad! 🙂
Happy Birthday to you dad!
that’s a very sweet remembrance. my father will be 77 in a few weeks. each day is precious.
❤️ We never stop thinking of them!
I’m in Parfum Sacre EDP White label formulation for smoky smoky powder spice rose. Don’t see a color on there that fits. Oh well.
Post shower will be a little rose anonyme. Because of the rich herby green notes, Quetzal Green is a good match.
I’m now reunited with all my perfumes here in Vermont. Having a lot of fun getting reacquainted with them. Damn I have good taste!
Glad you are settling in well, and are together with your perfumes again !
I love unpacking, especially if it’s been a while since packing. It’s like Christmas, except the person buying all the presents knows your taste perfectly!
Angel Muse today, just in the mood for something cosy and delicious. Red pear, maybe? Enjoy your Friday, all.
So very cozy. Yum.
SOTD is Fendi extrait, my favorite 80’s perfume of all time. 🙂
I love these 80’s perfumes that you are wearing
Thanks Lovestosmellgood! It has been a nice walk down memory lane. I had difficulty narrowing down all my best of the 80’s. 😀
You smell fantastic!
Mmm, I love Fendi. And we’re house twins.
Nice! I need to find backups of Life Essence and Theorema, both are dangerously low.
I’m in Violaceum paired perfectly with Crocus Petal. I’m so happy it’s Friday! I’m going to a concert tomorrow night that I’m excited for. And my good friend got news yesterday that she got the job she really wanted after being unemployed for a little over a month. So there’s good stuff happening.
Happy to hear about Good Stuff!! Enjoy the concert????
This is the one l’Artisan Parfumeur bee perfume I haven’t gotten to try yet 🙁 Is it quite violety? Is it anything else in it? Hooray for good stuff 🙂
Yay Therabbitsflower-I almost went with that one too!! It smelled up my decant box (hubby’s old hunidor) so beautifully that i figured it deserved to be worn!! I will salute you and wear it tomorrow! It is a lovely perfume!!! I have a small 10ml decant that I am hoarding! A beautiful violet color also!
Chergui bc fall has officially arrived here! Two mornings in row of 40F temp is all the confirmation I need. ????
Sad face fall twins ????????
Yes, broke down and had to turn the furnace on this morning.????
Chergui????
Fall!????????????????
I agree! Chergui is so good! ????
Yay….Friday at last!
I’m smelling amazing in Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere and Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon. ????
We are half-twins! ✌????
After going down to NY and doing some pretty intense sniffing the last couple of days, I am resetting by wearing Amun Re: The Tears of Ra, a long-time fave that always smells good. I’ll say it’s closest to Ceylon Yellow
Hectic, rushed morning and ran out without perfume! Fortunately have EBP in my bag so spritzed in the remainder of Dior Homme EDT I had in my bag. Perfect for the cool, brisker day and I’d say it matches Crocus Petal. TGIF!
I’m wearing Lys Carmine but neither of the Pantone reds feels right.
This is a good time of year to wear ELdO Like This, so I am in that today. I could pair it with Russet Orange.
That sure is 100% orange!
Wearing Prada Candy as it’s now Use It Up, Fall Edition.
Valiant Poppy smells like Memo Italian Leather to me
Not matching any of the Pantone colors, my SOTD is Abricot Vanille by Les Scenteurs Gourmandes/Laurence Dumont. A golden apricot vanilla scent with quite some longevity. I almost immediately felt like baking a cake. So gourmands can make you fat….
That sounds lovely. I want a nice apricot fragrance.
Le Labo Santal: An odd scent that does not quite fit into a category, just like most of the colors don’t quite fit into a category. They tend to be sort of brownish greens, or not quite brightish yellows etc.
Philosykos. I don’t think it matches any of the colours, but I smell great!
Yes, you do!
Happy FriYAY all! Beautiful day here in the “Littlest Big City in the World!”
I’m in Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere (hereafter know as FCWC) which is an almost dead ringer for my old beloved VS Vanilla Lace. Almost, but not quite.
I got a wild hair and decided out of the blue to learn to crochet. I have no clue why, have never held a crochet hook in my life. I wanted to make this “beginner” project:
https://youtu.be/4S9NAxAP3_o
30 seconds into it, I was lost. ????
So I decided to give this a try:
https://youtu.be/2H6h95tGv90
Already realized I have made a huge mistake since I bought beautiful charcoal grey fat yarn which is almost impossible for these old eyes to see. One thing is certain- it’s coming together fast! Wish me luck ????????
Good luck with the project. My that scent sounds cozy….
Thank you, and very cozy indeed!
Good luck with your project Deva, I find crochet so relaxing.
Well, I had to tear out a couple of rows, so not terribly relaxing. However, figured out my mistake and got into the groove.????????
the fiber arts are wonderful! I hope your crochet adventure continues until you find your happy place.
Some people are so creative with this stuff! Boggles my mind, but learning new things is essential for brain health, so this I how I’m trying to keep my cognitive plasticity…????
agree! I decided to start sewing again after many decades away from the machine. It’s a good workout for the brain.
I’ll probably find crocheting to be stress-inducing so I better not start because I may end up using the crochet hook to poke someone’s eye out!
Omg, lol! I believe you just might ????
Ha! I totally understand this! But, for sake of efficiency and maximum damage, I would recommend knitting needles instead????
that’s called “feeling stabby”!
A great site if you decide you want to keep crocheting is Attic 24.Great free tutorials and just a lovely cheerful blog from the UK.
I’m in Ambre Narguile today! None of the Pantone swatches fit this scent at all, but I suppose russet orange comes closest. My synesthesia is pretty picky about shade (is everyone’s?).
I’m wearing this because I spent all of yesterday afternoon wishing I smelled like AN. And now I do 🙂 🙂
In other news, I’ve now stocked up on lovely 10-mL spray bottles for the upcoming splitmeet! It’s pleasing to have all my vials in a row. I’ll most
unfortunately be on vacation during the start of the splitmeet (Sweden for a friend’s wedding, then Iceland because it’s…on our way home, I guess?), but I wrote everything up last weekend, so all I have to do is copy and paste the text on the right day.More importantly, I can’t wait to go on vacation in a week!
Enjoy your vacation and have fun at the wedding!
I missed the last swapmeet because I went on family vacation . No regrets though and we had a great time!
Thank you! Oh yes, no regrets about being at a wedding next weekend 🙂 Quite delighted! Just a weensy bit sad that the splitmeet isn’t on any other weekend is all.
nice combo! I’m looking forward to wearing Ambre Narguile now that the weather is cooler her. 😀
Oh good! I couldn’t quite wait for the weather to cool down 🙂 I think today’s high where I am is 82F. But I still smell so great, and it works out because it’s hardly hot in the office anyway.
I’m excited to see what you will offer! Have a lovely vacation Koyel!
Thanks so much, AngelaB 🙂 I intend to. I’m so excited to hopefully see the aurora borealis for the first time.
I hope you find things you will like on my list!
I went with a bargain basement goodie – Mauboussin Histoire d’Eau, which is definitely in the Russet Orange category, if only because the juice is exactly that hue. Spicy, suedey, with some floral aspects here and there – it’s a little like Casmir, but much drier. I forget how much I like it. I don’t see its cool space-age bottle around much anymore, but I think I bought mine several years ago for less than a tenner.
You smell wonderful, and very Russet Orange.
Limelight=Limon Verde
Another Ceylon Yellow here. I’m wearing Diptyque Eau Trois, which is sharp, resinous, and dried-herbal. It’s a good fall scent for the sun baked hills of northern CA.
I am in McQueen My Queen because I could not find the sample I was originally looking for. I expected it to be Ultra Violet but it is more of the Crocus Petal.
Lolita Lempicka Original, which matches both Ultra Violet and Crocus Petal, I think?
Definitely, I think more crocus petal, but so subjective!
I have some Lysol wipes in a scent that kept reminding me of something — I finally figured out it’s Lolita Lempicka!
Oh they sound good, wonder if they sell them in the UK, will have a look!
I have GOT to try those wipes!
Picked Russet Orange for a heavy spray of Dzing! Wenn it fades it gets Ceylon Yellow for me.
I’m wearing I’m home from Lush today.
It’s a spicy and comforting scent that smells like home made (butter, no margarine! And brown sugar, not white) cinnamon buns. It’s lovely and very calming and an instant compliment getter. I’ve had people on the subway asking me about it and gotten the “who smells so good?” at work. And that happens rarely to me. It might match the Red pear Pantone if I squint and try really hard ????
I’m Home is very nice and cosy. I was very tempted to buy it, but will wait for next year. I’ve bought way too much this year and strangely it is nice to hold out and prioritize.
In Vivienne Westwood Boudoir, a deep dusty pink I think. Unintentionally I’ve been patriotic, twice in British perfumes this week, I might continue tomorrow.
SOTD = Chanel Coromandel EDT
Did you know that Coromandel is a place in New Zealand and in India? Neither of these was the inspiration for the perfume. Apparently, it was a coromandel screen (lacquered) that inspired this patchy, resinous fragrance.
As for the Community Project, none of the colors individually match but the combination of all the colors remind me of the lacquer and inlay work of the coromandel screens!
Commuting Woes No. 602:
A woman who looked like she was drugged out of her mind almost had a full on panic attack. First, she was standing in between cars when there were plenty of seats. Then she came into the train car to ask if the train was going to stop at x. When told yes, she said she was very worried because the train did not stop at all the stops between where she got on to where she wanted to go. In a span of 2 minute, she changed her mind as to her mind. There were 2 guys answering her questions as I did not want to engage in her nonsense! Welcome to Friday!
Our Coromandel is named after a British navy ship in 1820. The huge kauri trees growing there were cut down to build British naval ships. There was an early gold rush to coromandel which. saw the introduction of the Monterey pine. Apparently the Indian coromandel comes from the Dutch misunderstanding of Karimanal… I just googled it
Thanks for the info, Kanuka. Welcome back!
An ad from Rei hit my Twitter feed, and I thought of you. It was advertising their hiking boot fitting service. Store in Paramus. In case you are still looking….
Nice! It is a hike (heh, no pun intended) to get to Paramus. That said, I went to Dick’s several weeks ago and took pictures of all the available ones. I tried on Merrell MOAB 2.0 (I think that’s the model). I was tickled pink to read that MOAB means Mother of all Boots!
Eeek, I meant to say that in a span of two minutes, she changed her destination 3x and was pretty much spitting out a bunch of nonesense!
Wearing Safron Troublant which I guess is Russet Orage, but I hate orange and I love the way this smells.
That’s a good pairing though!
I used to think orange was not my color but I absolutely love it now. It pairs well with black, khaki and olive…all fall appropriate! I have begun to hate yellow.
People seem to be afraid of orange, but I think it suits most people better than, say, green.
Safran Troublant always reminds me of a deep ???? red rose.
I’m wearing Theorema for Russet Orange. TGIF (first day this week my mood hasn’t been poison…)
mmmmm, Theorema. You smell magnificent.
I’m wearing a favourite layering combination of Miller Harris L’Air d’Rien & Rose Noir. Definitely Red Pear. I’ve got a craving for Insolence edp after reading the SOTD’s, so will carry on the project tomorrow.
Everything described as Red Pear is going on my to-try list.
Made it back to San Diego yesterday after two harrowing flights that included lots of turbulence, an OJ Simpson run through O’Hare, and nauseabond smells from being seated in the last row next to the toilets and galley. I arrived shell-shocked and exhausted, but after a decent night’s sleep, I am happy to be sitting in my bedroom in Tauerville Vanilla Flash. Deliverance!
Yay! Glad you finally made it!
Oh you poor thing Cazaubon that sounds like a nightmare. I hope you have a better Friday and great evening to make up for a dreadful travel day.
What a horrible travel experience! Glad you are home????
Oh, good grief! Happy you made it back in one piece and a good nights sleep reset you. You smell great!
Wow, that was quite the travel misadventure! Glad to hear that you are safe, sound, and not going anywhere for a while.
Travel. Ugh.
Vanilla. Sigh of contentment.
Scent siblings
Egads! Glad you have reset yourself!
Oh my goodness! What an awful travel day; glad you made it home safe and sound.
I haven’t been on a plane in years, but I dread the prospect of not being able to choose my own seat. Perhaps it’s just as well I have no travel plans on the horizon, other than maybe a couple nights in a local beach city.
I’m in a cheap thrill, Mac’s Lady Danger. The bottle is a little like Gucci Rush–making it hard to drum up an original color association. Defeated, I will go with Valiant Poppy.
Kept going with Escentric, this time 02. Definitely a mustard yellow. Not my cup of tea though. Will pass the sample on.
I chose Bois D’Ascese by Naomi Goodsir for today- it is my 2nd wear and it conjures up fall, with burning leaves, the perfect amount of smoke and a smooth dry down with a nice intensity of amber. I am trying on a few of these to decide which would be a full bottle purchase. I have some SSS Fireside Intense to sample next.
The color that matches Bois D’Ascese is Martini Olive.
Happy Friday All.
You smell really good. I had a sample of that sometime back and liked it immensely.
Sotd is Cuir D’Ange, matching it with Russet Orange. I actually get to say and mean TGIF today. ???? I can’t wait to get out of work!
Today is definitely Fri-YAY for you!
I’m being a real slacker too! One and a half hours to go.
Ha! I assume you have the whole weekend off?
Today, I wrote a memo with the wrong day of the week. I was talking to my manager and wondered why I picked Monday and he said maybe I was looking to forward to Monday to which I replied if that’s the case, he has a really big problem on his hands!
Yes, Saturday and Sunday. A rare treat!
Ahhhh! Enjoy your weekend????
Thanks! That’s my plan.
It’s Coty’s classic L’Origan and Russet Orange for me today, my favorite fragrance and color for my favorite month of fall. Today’s a winner all the way!
In the spirit of the season and the day, I’m wearing black jeans and a long-sleeved bright orange tshirt featuring a black cat with back arched in full Halloween-scare-cat mode silhouetted against a bright moon. Hmmm . . . it looks remarkably like Little Bear Luna (recently renamed by my dear granddaughter, who first met her early this week during the new moon phase.). Little Bear Luna continues to thrive and develops new skills each day. This week she learned how to CLIMB!!! ‘Nuff said!
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
Hooray for Little Bear Luna!
Go Little ???? Luna! Thank you for the update.
Heading home today after two weeks alone in the magical North Island. It’s been freezing and it’s only going to get colder . I am watching a big fat tui feed from a sugar water feeder outside my frien’s window…these birds have a beautiful song if you are a bird person. Wearing Rue Cambon and have thunked the sample. The airport in my home town lies bang in the middle of farm paddocks and when you get out of the plane the smell is grass and sillage ( cow poo stored under car tyres so it breaks down in the heat). You take a sniff and the weight of the world disappears in a flash as you sigh ‘home’.
http://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/tui
You smell fabulous! I *almost* went with 31RC today instead of participating in the CP. Wow, the the tui song really is fantastic. Is it very distinctive among the other local species’ songs?
Safe journey!
http://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/north-island-kokako
The kokako is a very special bird with an amzing call but the South Island kokako is thought to be extinct so it is only heard up north.
http://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/bellbird
The bellbird has a beautiful clear call and when I go for my walks there is a spot that attracts bellbirds and tui and it is like finding yourself in a cathedral of birdcalls.
Ooh, I’m off to read and listen—thanks!
I enjoy trying to pick out as many different birds as I can at the times of day when *all* the birds are singing at once.
I think 31 RC could be Ceylon Yellow. Buttery, sophisticated. (I suppose it’s cheating to pick the color to match the perfume, instead of the other way around. Partial credit, would be my self-serving ruling.)
Ha, that’s exactly what I was thinking of doing with it and why I didn’t!! It smells yellow to me, too. Yeah, I know the juice is yellow, but I’ve said before that in my mind 31RC is the smell of the color of mid-to-late afternoon sunshine.
welcome back!
(One of my best pals now lives up in the northy-north. I love it when we have video calls, and he’s sitting outside and I can hear all the unfamiliar birds.)
It’s a nice cool autumn day, perfect for Rundholz 03. Apr. 1968: lychee, heliotrope and olibanum. Lots of smoke with a little fruit. A wonderful perfumista gave me a decant of this. Have a great weekend everyone!
Oh, and Red Pear is the color most like this smell. (No pear notes in the perfume.)
That’s a gorgeous color. I need to get a sample of that perfume—if you reverse a couple of digits, it’s my birthday, and your description is very appealing.
Sneaking in early to post, ha! I had another perfume-adjacent THUNK this week! Today it was the last of a bottle of Korres Fig showergel. On tap now in the shower is Lush’s Plum Rain, smallest size.
Did anyone else have crazy weather last night? Thunderstorms and heavy rain started up around 11pm. Hope that’s the last of the late night fireworks for a while! ⚡????????
I had three possible options for today’s CP. One would have been Samsara EdP, going with Valiant Poppy. Two would have been L’Artisan’s Timbuktu, paired with Quetzal Green. Three would have been vintage Poison Esprit d’Ete parfum, matched with Ultra Violet.
SOTD = vintage Poison, from the sample stash. It is SO very Ultra Violet!
I was voting for Poison before I read your sotd. ????????
OMG, you smell amazing!
“Did everything just taste purple for a second?”
— Fry, “The Why of Fry”, Futurama
I’m matching Ultraviolet with Dame’s Mate, Heliotrope and Patchouli because it smells super-purple to me.
While the remains of Sergio are bringing welcome rain to these parts, I’m thinking of all those in Michael’s path. Stay safe.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
Michael is going back out to sea where it started., away from the U.S. mainland I hope it does not loop back around!
Heh, yeah. ????I shoulda been clearer: I meant those that already were in his path and are in the dangerous conditions leftover, with downed power lines and all… ????????, he’ll go straight out to sea and stay there.
Love the quotation, and the perfume is a perfect choice.
Thanks, Laurels! (Are you a Futurama fan? That episode is a quote goldmine, AFAIC.)
I am a fan. “Hey, baby, want to kill all humans?” is a pick-up line that would totally work on me.
SotD = Insolence EdT = Ultraviolet
Joining Team Insolence today and loving it. My brain is so tired it is a treat to come here for fragrant inspiration.
After a few months of no appetite I am so hungry the past few days. My doctor told me to gain a few pounds so I’m trying. I ate a big lunch of homemade chicken noodle soup with chunky carrots, onions, and celery, a big slice of toasted rye bread and some dark chocolate.
I’m so sleepy now I’m afraid to sit down for fear a nap will sneak up on me. That might be a good thing on a Fri-YAY afternoon tho!
Have a happy day, NSTers, y’all smell great.
Your lunch sounds delicious. Take the nap!
lunch was yummy, and it did push me over the edge into dreamland for 45 minutes. it was awesome. 😀
That’s the perfect amt of nap time. Anything longer makes me grumpy and groggy.
I love soups and the homemade ones are the best!
Nap time! ????
woot woot!
homemade soup + nap = time well spent
rinse and repeat, tomorrow is Saturday after all 😀
Galop d’Hermes — Valiant Poppy
Pretty color. They were out of Galop the last time I wandered into a Hermes boutique—I’ll have to try again.
Elixir des Merveilles for Russet Orange today. Seems a bit like a cheat since the bottle is close to the color but the scent fits too!
Hot news, maybe?
I just got an email that the Red Bottle of Chanel No.5 will be available at chanel.com. You can sign up to get an email when it becomes available!
And done! Thanks!
ooooh, no, that’s quite a lemming 😉
[Puts fingers in ears.] La la la la la!
Mona di orio santal Nabatea for russet orange. Such a warm nutty aromatic sandalwood perfume, I’m obsessed!
Vintage Dioressence, courtesy of the Swapmeet (thank you so much, Regina!), which I’m pairing with Quetzal Green, reminiscent of the print on the label, if not the scent itself. (The scent itself might be the color of an actual martini olive; it’s not as brown as the Pantone version looks on my screen.) This is gorgeous, green but powdery and warm, with a definite animalic hum underneath. As a woman of a certain age, would I dare to wear a perfume with a faintly urinous whiff in public? Turns out I did. It helps that it is quieter than one would think, although that might be because I’m dabbing from a mini of the vintage edt, rather than spraying.
When I first fell down the rabbit hole, I was looking for a new signature scent to replace Opium (the original), which I had gotten a bit bored with, and I came across Michael Edwards’ Fragrance Finder. Dioressence was one of the perfumes it recommended for lovers of Opium. I got a sample of the current version (I think—this would have been around 2013) and it was thin and sour, and I thought, “Really? This? Instead of Opium?” Then I found a review that talked about reformulation, probably Angela’s review here, and wondered if the vintage would be more like it. It is! It’s wonderful! I’m glad I had the chance to try it, and sad that I’m unlikely to procure a lifetime supply. I will enjoy it while it lasts, which is the attitude I’m trying to cultivate toward life in general.
The current version of the Fragrance Finder is here, if anyone wants to play with it: http://www.fragrancesoftheworld.com They seem to have removed all the old, discontinued scents from the results, but you can still search for things like them.
“Turns out I did.” I love that!
I’ve only ever smelled the current Dioressence (once)—and it most definitely did not smell like Opium, so hooray for you vintage score. I’ve played around with the Fragrance Finder before, but I’m going to use it in earnest now to try to replace my Anna Sui, which I did not stock up on soon enough after it was DCed.????????♀️
Vintage Dioressence doesn’t actually smell like Opium—I see where my word choice was misleading. I meant something along the lines of, “Now that’s more like it!” The modern stuff just did not seem in any way in the same category as Opium, while I can definitely see how the vintage would be in some way comparable. Vintage Opium and vintage Dioressence do both have some powder and some spice, but you’d never mistake one for the other.
Good luck finding something in the vein of Anna Sui. Perfume companies really should be required to give us at least a year’s notice before they discontinue or reformulate anything.
