Ahoy! ’tis Hump Day, and International Talk Like a Pirate Day! What fragrance be ye wearin?
Me: running late, again, but staying peaceful in my old friend Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate.
Reminder: 9/21 is the International Day of Peace *and* World Gratitude Day. Wear a fragrance that fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello everyone!
I’m in Kingdom EdP today, from a newly discovered bottle. I sprayed a little the first day I got it, but I haven’t worn it since. While I do agree with Luca Turin that it’s basically Allure with cumin, I really like it. At the same time, I wonder if one could mix new Rochas Femme and Allure together to achieve a similar effect. I’ll report back when I try it.
Also, the bottle is even prettier in person. I wish I could try the parfum, not least for the actually metal bottle. 🙂
Please do report back if you try that combo!
I absolutely will. Maybe when I get home.
I really like “new Femme” but it lasts about an hour on me. Maybe the Allure will help.
Yes I bet the Allure will anchor it ????
I adore Kingdom, you smell great!
Me too! I’m glad I found it at the price I did though, otherwise I’d probably never have tried it.
sort of scent twins…
I am eating dal at the moment, so technically I have a lot of cumin spice sweating out of me 😉
Haha, yum! I actually love the cumin note, and find Kingdom more calm than I’d expected.
It’s nice to see Kingdom mentioned – you smell great 🙂
I still have quite a bit in the bottle I bought back in 2002, or so. I hadn’t fallen down the rabbit hole at that time, but I regularly wore perfume and bought Kingdom because it smelled so different to everything else. That hasn’t changed!
Oh cool! I’m sorry that it’s so expensive now. I absolutely loved the 2006 Missoni but because of the Guide it’s super expensive.
Good morning! I’m trying out Ormonde Jayne Ta’if from a swap meet sample. It’s extremely pretty, maybe too much so for work. It would be a nice date night perfume, but at this rate one bottle of a single date night perfume will last me at least a decade 🙁
Expand it to girls night out perfume, dinner party perfume, weekend shopping at Costco perfume etc.! I know what you mean – I own several great evening out scents (my fave being Seville A L’aube) but they don’t get a whole lot of wear.
Second this! I remember when I read The Guide’s review of El Attarine and thought, “I’ve definitely worn this to the laundromat.” I get why they said what they said but it makes me happy, in a tux or in my jeans. 🙂
El Attarine is exactly what one should wear at the laundromat!
It’s so beautiful, really. I wish I had bought a bottle years ago, before I got nervous about reformulations. It’s my favorite of the Serge Lutens jellientals.
It was gorgeous, and yeah, would not want to risk smelling it now.
I might just have to. I see they have a set of 5x8ml which would be great for sharing as well.
Ta’if is one of my all-time perfume loves, and I wear it for special occasions. But it’s so beautiful that I would have invited those occasions just to wear it.
Definitely in my Top 10. I initially thought it was too much for work but had the most amazing compliment from a female coworker when I wore a spritz one day—- so don’t worry, it’s doable for work unless you work in a no perfume place*.
* if you work in a place that doesn’t allow perfume, you should quit. Life is too short. Haha
I’m all ready for fall in J.Crew No. 31, the last of a decant. Unfortunately, fall isn’t ready for me and it is supposed to be hot in East Texas.
80 and sunny here today!
High of 93 with a heat index of 102 today.
Ditto!
Wow!
Yikes!
????
Hi, I am wearing the Different Company Osmanthus. I love it, however, it is very faint. It would be great in a bath gel, steam would really help deliver it.
You do smell pretty though!
Arrrrrgh! Talk like a pirate , ai mateys!
Staying peaceful in Allurrrrrrre!
Yo ho yo Ho a Chanel life for me!
Scent twins!????
🙂
You smell great. So happy I scored a bottle of Allure from going through mom’s stuff….
Smelling wonderful today. I never wear it because it’s my mom’s signature scent but I always love to smell it on her and others.
your mom has excellent taste!
Wearing Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT because it was the 1st thing I saw this AM.
Ollie is feeling a little better, and wants to thank all the nice smelling people for their good thoughts. So does his Momma 🙂
That is good new 🙂
So glad Ollie is feeling better.
Yay, happy puppy is feeling better????????
So glad to hear Ollie is on the mend.
I’m quite sure you mean Ouarrrrrrrzazate!
I had the most marvelous dream last night, in my favorite genre I Discover a Fabulous Perfume Estate That Is Somehow All Mine. In this one a long-lost wealthy relative had left my family a dusty old mansion. As everyone else was divvying up the furniture and crystal, I discovered a huge trove of impossible-to-find vintage perfumes that no one else wanted. It was hard to wake up from. In its spirit, I am wearing vintage Crepe de Chine parfum. It’s new to me and I gotta say, I would kick No. 5 out of bed for this one.
That’s a wonderful dream! I will say, perfume miracles do happen from time to time.
What a lovely dream! I’m going to go to bed thinking really hard about that this evening, and with luck….
I need to have a dream like that and never wake up…. ????
What a marvelous dream indeed!
Ooooh, great dream!
Things are clicking slowly this morning — it took me two full minutes to get “Ouarrrrrrrzazate!”
Ha! I’ve yet to have any perfume dreams. What meanings, besides the obvious, could we extract from this I wonder? 🙂
Of course I do!
What a fabulous dream! My grandmother wore Crepe de Chine and I know how wonderful you smell 🙂
That is one fabulous dream!
sampling sylvaine delacourte helicriss
I like it. I forced myself to think about it and guess some notes before I looked it up, I came up with: coriander, bright sun hay and leather.
If you are not a fan of white musk of course I can see how you would not be interested in any from this line, but I find it very alluring and keep smelling my wrist.
I liked that one too because of the immortelle note which is very dominant on my skin. Also liked Florentine for the iris almond vibe.
me too, I chose Florentia in a split, it’s very nice!
Good choice ????
Waiting for my sample set to come
looking forward to your impression 🙂
Good morning. I am wearing Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial and drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea.
And I have finished my breakfast teas and I’m having a cup of peppermint lemongrass 🙂
I regret not trying Parfum Initial. I heard it is lovely.
Good morn to ye, maties! I am wearing Padparascha and not worrying about spelling it correctly, because everyone knows pirates can’t spell!
Oh, I haven’t thought of that one in ages! I had a sample a few years ago and really liked it, but never got around to getting a decant or bottle. You smell great!
Of course they can’t!
Did you ever try the new one?
https://nstperfume.com/2016/10/20/satellite-padparadscha-noir-new-fragrance/
One of my top favorite fall perfumes. I thought I had finished my supply and last year I found a big decant buried in my perfume cabinet, yay! Disorganization can be wonderful 😉
I lavishly sprayed on Chanel No.19 EdT just because……
mmmmm…..fantastic…no one needs an excuse to wear 19!
????
I think No.19 smells best when lavishly sprayed. You smell gorgeous ????
It does! Thank you! ????
I have never tried lavishly spraying it… maybe that’s why it’s not my favorite, I’ll have to experiment!
P67, you smell great! 🙂
Thank you! ????
Ooh ooh ooh yum! My mom used to wear 19 and I smelled it on someone many years ago in a store and that’s what put me into the rabbit hole. You smell ahmazing!
Thank you Sajini! No. 19 sent me to the Chanel rabbit hole also. It is my favorite house forever!
…Just because you wanted to smell great!
Absolutely! ????
In CK Be. It just smells good, fresh and clean—before the whole white musk era. Another crazy week at work.
The week is half over ????????
I am grateful that today is better than yesterday!
Manifesting this gratitude by wearing ELdO Fils de Dieu. It is glorious. I’m about to finish my sample, but that’s OK because I have a 30mL bottle. Yet another thing to be grateful for. 🙂
I gave this one to my mom and she loved it. However, she got a sample of Twilly and she loves it more! Whatever makes her happy, as long as it isn’t Light Blue. 🙂
Lol, you made me choke on my poptart!????
Mission success! 🙂
Your mom has great taste!
She really does. She wore Nahema for years, until she divorced. Now she likes much lighter perfumes, so it’s hard to get one we both like on her. 🙂
I officially have a cold. I drank 3 cups of green tea before work. Sotd is Allure.
oh yuck! Hope you feel better soon! My middle one has had a cold for three weeks now. This is what happens when you go away to college for the first time 🙁
drink lots of fluids and get lots of rest , lillyjo!
Thanks! Btw, turns out I really like green tea. Hope it helps this stay just a cold.
Keep drinking the green tea even after you recover. It’s good for you ????
Oh no! Feel better soon Lillyjo! I hope your day at work goes fast!
Thank you!
You smell great, twin! well wishes
Thanks, we smelled awesome today!
Feel better soon! Lots of green tea, honey and lemon should help. And rest, a lot of it!
Thank you!
Feel better soon! Lots of green tea, honey and lemon should help. And rest, a lot of it!
Yuck. Hope you feel better doin!
Thanks ????
You smell good! I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks KellyC!
Bletch on the cold! I agree with some of the other posters… lots of green tea. Feel free to add as much lemon and honey as you like. The honey and lemon can also be used to make a hot lemonade, which is good for soothing sore throats. ???? Get well soon!
Thanks Jalapeno. You know, with my new and apparently forever sinus problems, I started drinking lots of tea. Problem is, I don’t really like them. But after cm8, mentioned green tea, I gave it a try, and am enjoying it. I really should get some lemon though.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you! Going to bed early, should help.
Argan & Birch Body cream (rum and vanilla in there so I am somewhat on theme plus it was a gift from a generous NSTer so I am grateful for that)
one wrist is English Oak & Hazelnut paired with Blackberry & Bay
other wrist is English Oak & Hazelnut paired with Myrrh & Tonka
loving both of these combos but all three travel sprays will be Christmas gifts for the youngest Marzipan…just testing them out of him 😉
for him….
Ha!????
This is how I often get away with zippo reports to donatella..everything ends up being a “gift” (and now you know my secret-LOL!)
That’s so funny, I should start gifting my daughter perfume that we can share. She has a little collection of celebrity scents, and I gave her a few I don’t wear anymore. One day I found my Gucci Rush in her room, and I had to swipe it back.
It looks like Birch&Argan can be layered with many scents. I need to give that a try later on!
Are you going to thunk it soon? ????
It’s a huge tube so hopefully No because I wanted the eldest to try it since she’s taking the body wash. And yes it works with everything cause it smells so darn good!! Creamy ????????????????????
Bottega Veneta for me again. BV and I are having a Thing right now.
🙂 Bottega Veneta love in the house!
High five!
I ❤️ BV!
????
Hi Elisa P!
You are getting an enabler pin! After reading your SOTD comment yesterday I promptly ordered a mini of BV Eau Legere from evilbay!
I happen to like it more then BV.
Oh, so glad to help push you over the edge???? I don’t think I’ve tried that version. How is it different?
BV Eau Legere is softer and more luminous then the original BV. The leather note is toned done and it lacks patchouli ( a huge plus in my book!!!). The florals are a little more pronounced. Overall it is more feminine and easier to wear. I hope this helps! 🙂
Thanks! Actually, my wish would be for the leather to be more pronounced in BV, lol.
It’s worthy of a Thing….
Very true!
I ignored it for a while, there. Nice to rekindle, though!
BV is so perfect.
Love me a hump day!
Just back from work in Vegas where it was sweltering hot. Very happy with my 70s temps in NYC.
While there I got a sample of Bottega Veneta Knot Eau Absolue which is really quite lovely. It’s got amber added to the original Knot making it, more intense! Wouldn’t mind a 30ml of this one.
Is anyone else disturbed by how empty malls are these days? I was in Fashion Show Mall on the strip and was literally the only shopper in Nordstroms. Neiman Marcus was another ghost town. I would think in a place like Vegas you’d see a lot more shoppers but that wasn’t the case when I was there. I guess I’m of the minority that prefers in-person shopping vs. online. I appreciate store displays, seeing and touching stuff, and not having to return via mail!
SOTD: Knot Eau Absolue
Malls are definitely taking a hit. Here in Houston there are so many “dead malls” in the suburbs. That just means low rent for local businesses, luckily!
Our main mall, though, is always packed to the gills.
I love The Galleria in Houston. Great mall!
Ha, I wouldn’t say I love it! I only go once every 4 months since it’s always crazy but I usually enjoy my time.
I sure do miss the perfume discounter that used to be there though. Imagine what treasures they had that I didn’t even know about!
Our local mall is not very good but it’s always packed in the winter when there is no where else to go, especially with kids in strollers
Yes, it’s dispiriting. Maybe the upside is people are spending less time on shopping as recreation? Also, in principle I like real stores; in practice, I’d have to have to have homes in NYC at a minimum, to be able to shop where the things I like are sold — and then I wouldn’t have any shopping money left.
Places doing well in the DC Metro area include Tysons Corner (mainly due to visitors from overseas, though) and the Mosaic District, where Arielle Shoshana is located (a shopping and restaurant district, not an indoor mall, that seems to attract many young people, and some of all ages.
Retail is definitely having hard time. While I also prefer “in person” shopping, the assortment of things in B&M stores around where I live is so inferior to what online shopping even from the same brands/department stores’ sites that have their presence in our malls offer, that often I use those stores for returns only. With big stores I always check whether what I want is in stock in one of the stores locally to avoid shipping (even when it’s free). And 9 out of 10 times it isn’t.
Good point. Some cities/towns just don’t have the higher end and good mix of stores in their malls.
There are 3 shopping malls within a 20 minute drive of where I live, and only 1 of them is doing well. One is defunct, and ought to be demolished, and the second one has had some high profile closings in it over the past couple of years. Not sure what is going to happen with that one.
Re: Las Vegas, the last time I was in the Fashion Show Mall, it didn’t have much in the way of pedestrian traffic, and this was back in the early 1990’s.
It really was eerie being the only one in the beauty section in both dept. stores. At least the SAs didn’t “attack” me as I’m sure they’re desperate for sales and just customers to interact with.
The mall I used to work at is remodeling. It hasn’t been busy in years. I hope the updates work for them.
I’m wearing Norell Elixir today and feeling like I might be getting sick. There have been colds going around in the office, so I’m just hoping I’m not next. 😛
Is the elixir like the original? I wore it back in the day. It was a power house.
Feel better.
I really like Elixir! Waiting for it to hit the discounters. ????????
I believe Scentbird has it. Just saying…
Hoping along with you that the crud passes you by!
Fingers crossed you avoid getting sick.
Hope you feel better soon!
Arrr! I feel comfortable in the glow of the friendship of NSTers today.
Wearing Palissandre d’Or today from the swapmeet 🙂 It’s slightly marred by the ripe smell of my wrist brace–tips on how to wash it properly? Maybe add vinegar to the soapy water? Yuck.
PdO is really beautiful (I didn’t know rosewood smelled so lovely!), but it really quiets down very quickly. Maybe I needed more sprays.
I think I have some rosewood in my essential oil collection (from back when I thought I was going to make my own perfume – that went the way of many a great project idea). I’ll have to go sniff for a reminder.
Ah yes, those great project ideas 🙂 If you’ve smelled PdO, I’d love to hear a comparison of rosewood EO vs. PdO! Or, if you read through the notes of PdO, it would be interesting to see if you think the notes are appropriate for rosewood EO too!
yep–you could soak in some vinegary water before washing. Or bury it in a bag of clean cat litter or baking soda for a while–that can absorb some of the ick. (I’d try that as a first step.)
Oh that’s a good idea! I might skip the cat litter and use baking soda, though; clean cat litter (slightly metallic?) has its own odor that I CANNOT STAND, possibly because of the mental associations I have between it and cat…poop.
(I am amused that you felt the need to specify clean cat litter, as though I might get confused and grab a handful out of the litterbox 🙂 Yuck yuck yuck!)
Ah, yes… there may have been an unfortunate incident when I shared the cat litter suggestion with a not-so-bright weightlifter who had Very Stinky Knee Sleeves. You could not make this up. And, trust me, you do not want to imagine the details.
I am giggling, in between little bouts of gagging….
I…I don’t know what to say. This is not at all what I was expecting. That’s…horrifying.
Apres L’Ondee – from the swap meet. This is a fun week (perfume wise, not so sure about work), with swap packages trundling in – it’s lovely to discover new stuff, but it’s also lovely to have swapped for something familiar (Apres L’Ondee). Let’s see how long it will last on me! Even sprayed my scarf (which I’m only wearing for that purpose).
Happy Hump Day!
I get great longevity out of Apres L’Ondee if I wear a bit more than I normally would. Sadly the modern EdT has a very slight plasticy note in the first hour if I double-spray my wrists.
I think your perfume could fit the community project too. Its very peaceful
It does have a peaceful vibe – hadn’t even thought of that. 5.5 hours in, I can still smell faint traces of it – so it’s not a terrible longevity. Just as well since another swap package is probably trundling in this afternoon!
I need serious good vibes today, friends. My fiance got laid off yesterday. The company he works for is closing their flight ops in Albuquerque. Their last day is November 9th (he will get a months severance). They say they are going to open positions in Phoenix where the company’s flight ops are based and they are welcome to apply to those and they are somewhat guaranteed they’ll get it, but we just moved here a year ago and bought a house in January, which we love. We are so upset. We don’t want to live in Phoenix (no offense to anyone who does). He’s already applying to jobs here in NM but uuuggghhh I hate uncertainty. Super stressed today.
In Shalimar because it’s just comforting to me.
So sorry — that’s just awful, especially when you just bought a house. Keeping fingers crossed, hope he can find something local.
Ugh… good luck ????????????
Sorry! I hope he finds a new job soon. Good luck to you both!
So sorry to hear that! I have definitely been laid off before and it is a hard burden. I hope his unemployment is short.
Yikes, so sorry to hear this! I hope he finds something that suits soon.
Ugh, so sorry Kelly. Layoffs are the worst, especially when you’ve relocated for said job and have settled in to life in a new city. I hope he can find another job in Albuquerque quickly!
Shalimar is a perfect perfume for some good vibes
Oh, no! That’s so unsettling KellyC! I really hope he’s able to find something in NM and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hugs to you both.
Try to stay positive! The economy is strong so hopefully he will find something quickly.
I’m sorry you’re going through that unpleasant patch but hopefully it’ll turn out for better. Currently we have the record low unemployment rate in the country, so theoretically now is the best time to be looking for another job – though I know how unpleasant it is when you have to do it not on your terms. Try not to stress about it much.
I’m so sorry! So disrupting. I remember you getting ready to move there, and one year is such a short time. Hoping for something fabulous to come through.
That’s a tough break for sure! Just take it a day at a time – sorry for the cliche, but it helps. Something will turn up.
So hard! I’m sorry too. There’s enough uncertainty in life, no need for stuff like this to happen. Fragrance is brilliant at taking the edge off. Glad Shalimar is there for you in addition to many NST friends. 🙂
ok, well that truly stinks, so sorry! sending good vibes out that your work and home life are in harmony…you smell great!
Oh no, so sorry to hear that! I hope he finds something new (and maybe even better) soon!
So sorry to read this. Sending you both good vibes and hugs and good wishes.
Ugh! Sending you good vibes and well-wishes! Shalimar is perfect for a comfort scent! 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear that, I hope he can find something local.
I’m hoping for both of you that it will turn into one of those opportunities where the next job (hopefully right where you are) will turn out to be a better one.
Thank you so much for the uplifting words- they have helped me tremendously today. I have no doubt he will find another position super fast with his experience and training, I just hope it is in New Mexico. I have fallen in love with it here and just now feel settled. But if not, I guess it isn’t meant to be and I will adapt wherever I go! I’m going to try and look at it as an adventure…
Sorry to hear it, I hope it all gets resolved soon.
Oh that stinks! Layoffs are an emotional roller coaster for all involved. Best wishes for you and your fiance! ????????
I’m really sorry to hear this KellyC. I know it’s stressful. Wishing him better employment right where you are.
So sorry to hear it. Hang in there!! Good luck!
Oh no.. sorry to hear that! It sounds like a new employer will be lucky to have him!
So sorry to hear this, sending hugs and job vibes!
Trying to inject happiness into a stressful and busy day with roses. Showered with Rose Jam shower gel and am wearing Rose Jam perfume. I used rosewater toner and rose face cream. After I posted here about an overwhelming workload yesterday, my coworker and I got even more work of an urgent nature, so it’s a challenging time.
Last night I tried the new Jo Malone Honeysuckle & Davana. I think I overapplied because it was one of those soaked cotton pads attached to a glossy flyer. Whew it singed my nostrils and it didn’t help that I already have sensitive sinuses at the moment. I had to scrub it off, and when I sniffed it I didn’t detect any recognizable honeysuckle note. It just seemed like a mainstream perfume floral blend. It may not be fair to judge it with fatigued sinuses and overapplication, but I do not care to smell it again!
I didn’t like that Jo Malone either
Glad I’m not alone!
Take it from a long-time JM fan: you haven’t missed much with this one 😉
I’m only a sometimes JM fan, so I wasn’t expecting much. But I really didn’t like it. Too bad because in nature honeysuckle is probably in my top 5 favorite smells.
Oh goodness, you smell great in all that rose!
Thank you! I have really enjoyed my wafts today.
Joining you in the too-much-work-of-an-urgent-nature camp, and wishing you low stress. You do smell wonderful 🙂
Thanks, lady! I wish you low stress too.
May I suggest listening to Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’Ete to help you diffuse stress? I’ve been doing that today and it’s REALLY helping out!
Rose Jam shower gel is one of my favorite pick me ups for the dead of winter. You smell lovely.
Thanks, I love it for that in the winter too!
I felt the same way about the new JM.
Hi all,
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 edp, layered over the body cream. I’m feeling very luxe today!
🙂
House twins and you smell lovely
Indeed you are! The body cream must be lovely.
Thanks CM8! I am so glad I saved my pennies to purchase it as a ‘happy birthday to me’ present (the best kind). Very creamy and adds an additional oomph (like No. 19 needs it??) to the EDP!
You just created a lemming ????
You smell even better than me! ????
Well thanks!
My sister in law gifted me with the shower gel (she’s a Light Blue gal) so I plan on a nice No. 19 bubble bath tonight. New book on my Kindle, a nice Diptyque candle burning and I’m all set!
Your night sounds divine! Enjoy!
Yes indeed. You smell awesome.
Funny story about Chanel 19:
My somewhat clueless dad used to get my mom, my sister and I generic xmas gifts from Army and Navy year after year. One year we each got exactly the same umbrella and a towel that had “delta hotels” printed on it. We let him know that although useful, these gifts were not very appealing to female humanoids. The next year my sister got Chanel 5 lotion and I got Chanel 19 talcum powder. Dear ol dad really brought it!
Aww love this story!
Awww, that is a sweet story! And No. 19 talcum powder, wow. I bet that was delicious!
That is hysterical!!
You smell so wonderful.
Wow, you ARE smelling luxe today!
That sounds like an utterly amazing combo. Enjoy your evening!
I am comparing the new EDP version of Diptyque’s 34 Blvd St Germain to the original EDT for fun and Science!
Quite similar so far…
I’ve been dying to try the edp bc I love the edt.
They are quite similar.
The EDP is a bit spicier and more peppery. I believe I prefer the EDT.
I tried the EDP yesterday and actually found it marginally different than the EDT. I prefer the EDT.
Agreed.
Very similar to my nose. And I also find the EDT preferable too.
What do you think of this one? From online reading, reviews are all over the map on this one; I was thinking of a decant first.
Ummagumma today. Another beautiful morning here, and since I’m cleanup crew at he van site today, wood shavings and sawdust should mix well with Ummagumma.
Maybe I’ll thrown on an eye patch to really get into the feel of International Pirate Day- Ahoy, Matey!
I wish the opening on this one would last all day. Incredible chocolate note!
Yes, it’s definitely fleeting but Oh, so good! ????
AG Neroli for another glorious summer day here in the Midwest. This is my fav neroli soliflore. I will be very sad when I finish this bottle bc it’s discontinued.????
Speaking of neroli, I actually received 3(!!!) compliments on Neroli Outrenior this week at an event I worked. I never get fragrance compliments so this was just so lovely. Another 10ml decant has been purchased!
Yay for compliments!! NO is so beautiful. I wore it a few days ago and had forgotten about its great longevity.
Longevity rocks on NO!
Another big fan of NO. It is my most beloved Guerlain followed by Angelique Noire ( given that I haven’t tried their classics like Mitsouko or HB).
I’d say vintage Samsara is the other favorite from Guerlain for me.
I have never tried a vintage version, but the current one smelled like dirty socks to me. Yuck!
For those who are curious about Siberian deer musk pods (caveat: these are actual furry animal parts), Ensar Oud has a making of video for Ensar Oud No. 2, an artisanal musk perfume:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=5&v=LmzZ6CTvk_c
Also includes shots of the Moscow metro, leather crafting, and a Russian singer’s rendition of “It’s My Life.” The rectangular metal can they open at one point is genuine 1980s Mysore sandalwood.
Of the EO perfumes that I’ve sampled so far, I liked Monsieur Oud best. EO 1 is also worth trying. Luckyscent carries a subset of the offerings from this brand. I’ve ordered from them directly, and everything has arrived safely from overseas.
No affiliation with either brand.
It is a rainy day where I am and I needed a little SL Fleurs d’Oranger. I’m also trying to hold onto the feeling of summer just a bit longer. I bought lots of good things at the farmers’ market this morning: grape sized tomatoes, pears, apples, ground cherries and pumpkin cookies with white chocolate chips. I’ll share a few things with a neighbor.
Farmer’s markets make me happy. Sounds like a good haul!
Finished a sample of Chanel No 5 L’Eau- I think I know what to get for my Bday 🙂 I am looking at travel set at Nordies
https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/chanel-n5-leau-eau-de-toilette-twist-and-spray-set/4754896?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=none
It has 3 travel atomizers 0.7 oz (20 ml) each. I am thinking about offering 2 of those for the upcoming splitmeet in October. Do you guys think anyone will be interested?
Kids have no school today, so we are cleaning the house and hitting local park in the late afternoon.
Edible project for today- homemade baked pies with cabbige. They might sound plain, but they are delish!
Can I piggy back on this question – I am very attracted to the twist and spray atomizers and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them at all? They look very cool.
Btw., not sure if this is useful or helpful, but they were a bit cheaper in the airport duty free (saw them in Dublin, would assume similar prices in other EU countries?) – I think 73 euros for that set.
Lurve my Eau Premiere twist & spray–have not had occasion to change the cartridge, but it’s a great atomizer.
Thank you for the reply! I was wondering too. I have regular travel spray of Coco, which is 2 oz. (great spraying mechanizm !), but never owned smaller twist and spray atomizer.
I agree with you, Chanel is cheaper in Europe-too bad I don’t have any travel plans abroad. Plus I am not too patient 🙂 My Bday is at the end of September and I would like to have a gift to myself exactly on this day!
well, that’s probably worth it whatever extra $$ then – to have it that day, as you want it! I’m hoping my dad will visit us this xmas season and can be trusted to purchase the correct one (I can already see him grumbling “they all smell the same…”). Or he’ll miss his flight because of this. Maybe I better check Macy’s!!
Hilarious! Send your dad a picture and ask him to use SA’s help to get correct perfume 🙂
Right now Macy’s is having 15 percent off perfume. Online it doesn’t include Chanel, but at my store they do it. It might be worth checking out, if you are close. No affiliation.
Good timing! I just checked out Macy’s online Chanel offerings to make sure they carry twist and spray set. Thank you for suggestion!!!
Good luck, I hope you are able to get it on sale!
Thank you! I hope so too!
I’m sampling Parle Moi De Parfum today. I have One Tonne de Roses, Guimauve de Noel, Falvia Vanilla, Cedar Woodpecket, Milky Musk and Woody Perfecto all over my body. I’m not familiar with the nose Michel Almairac but this is supposedly his own independent outfit?
Some of them are nice, but if i’m honest i smelt all of this before in other niche houses and designer scents. Its hard to be original and distinctive in the current perfume climate.
Thanks for your observations, gunmetal24! I really love the name of this brand and its perfumes, but haven’t tried any yet.
Michel Almairac is quite prolific and may well have done some of the similar perfumes that you’ve smelled before:
https://nstperfume.com/perfumers-a-to-e/michel-almairac/
I haven’t smelled most of these, but Gucci Rush, Armani Prive Bois d’Encens, and L’AP Voleur de Roses were very distinctive. Those were the days!
I liked Orris Tattoo, but as you noted, not very original/distinctive. But very pleasant to wear.
Wow just pulled the trigger on a place in Brattleboro, Vermont. Guess I’m moving up there. Woke up in freak out mode. I guess that’s normal for such a big move.
SOTD: The Musc from Essential Parfum
PS Sounds like a few NSTer’s are getting the seasonal lurgy. I too had it but it cleared up pretty quickly. Just get your rest! Also, I’ve been taking emergenC, echinacea tea and MCT oil and it seemed to help the whole thing pass through in a few days.
Wow! This is a big move. I wish you all the happiness there!????
Thank you!
Best of luck to you! Enjoy and be happy in your new place!
Thank you!
Congrats and much courage to you! Big moves can be scary.
I need to take a road trip up there sometime soon. I really like Vermont. A colleague I work with bought a home there with acres of land-can’t remember which town, now- but the photos make me green with envy.
Yes it is pretty scary, but I’m hunkering down with my to do list today. It’s a really nice little town and so far everyone I have met has been super nice including my future landlor
Congratulations, and I understand the nerves!
Yup full freak out mode this morning. Thanks for your kind words.
Totally normal to freak out over a big move. I’ve only been to Vermont in the summer, but gosh it was lovely. I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks that helps. I’m sure everyone goes through this.
Congratulations!
Good for you! My sister went to school there and loved it.
Congratulations and best of luck with your big move!
Vermont is lovely, hope the move goes smoothly!
I’ve visited Braddleboro many times and have family who live in a neighboring town. It’s a nice area to live. Good luck and much happiness!
Thank you so much everyone. I’m feelin the NST love and support!
Congratulations! I’m sure you will love it. Especially the fall colors. Beautiful.
We should all be drinking rum to stay on theme.
In Donna Karan Woman, I think it was a flop but I enjoy its vetiver and it’s office appropriate, would make a great masculine too. The bottle is beyond awkward.
Aha, good point about the rum!
I have to say I love the fact that my birthday falls on Int’l Talk Like a Pirate Day. The family greetings always amuse.
Celebration includes an afternoon show of Smokey and the Bandit and dinner across the street at a nice restaurant. It opened a couple of years ago, and we keep saying we should splurge and try it. So…tonight it is. Interestingly, they have a “no tipping” policy.
Have sprayed Le Temps d’une Fête with abandon. It was my signature in a prior formulation and, given the name, suits the day.
Spent the afternoon yesterday with a friend’s mom in the waiting room at NYU hospital (friend was having surgery.) A pleasant day despite getting caught in the deluge.
Anyway, I mention it in case anyone else has seen the fabulous new sculpture that went up over the summer. Spot. I only really saw him out of the corner of my eye and then on the bus, but I will go back for a closer look. Fabulous. Check out the link below. A HUGE Dalmatian balancing a taxi on its nose.

Happy birthday! My Mom shares her day with you. Hope you have a lovely day and evening ????????
Happy Birthday to your mom. Cm8!
thank you , lillyjo! My parents are spending the day walking on the beach and tonight will have chinese food and ice cream to celebrate. I am envious of their quiet relaxing day …I guess it sort of fits the peace theme, right?
What a nice day! I always want ice cream after Chinese food!
happy day to mom!
I love my mom so much, her birthday is as much fun as my own. 😀
Thanks , tiffanie! You are such a sweet daughter 🙂 I bet your mom loves you equally as much!
Hope your mom had a great birthday!
Birthday girl in da house! Sending you a birthday hug and wishes for a very fun day which sounds like you’ll be having. 😉
Thanks for that info. and link on Spot. Very cool and can’t wait to check this out. Fun idea.
Happy birthday LizzieB! And many, many more to celebrate! ????????????????
Happy Birthday to ya’! Sounds like a good way to celebrate.
Yes, I’m at NYU right now! I saw them hoisting up that sculpture and for the life of me couldn’t figure it out. It’s huge in person. I hope you got to eat in the cafeteria here. It’s pretty good! And you smell fab!
We didn’t eat there. I wish we had. Nice building.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
hope it’s been a mighty fine day!
Happy Birthday!
Love your birthday plans, hope it is all great fun!
Happy Scented Birthday! ????????????
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day. Being a dog lover, that sculpture is ????????
Happy birthday to you!
Hope it was a happy birthday!
Yo ho ho! I be wearing a spritz or two or five from a bottle of Eau d’Orrrrrrange Verrrrrrte from Herrrrrrmes! I made up a joke in honour of the day: What is a Pirates favourite rock band?
Sea, sea, arrrrrrrrrrghhh! 🙂
LOL 😀
took me a minute tho!
I lol’d at worrrrrrrk!
I definitely got a chuckle and smile from it!
My sister is visiting to take over care of our mother for a few weeks; she got here yesterday so today is my first true day off from everything in six months. I am wearing vintage Shalimar extrait because I can! I have a Nicholas Sparks novel, I’m watching Parks and Rec on Netflix, had a peanut butter sandwich and a cold beer for lunch and I have a nap planned with my large furry cat. The bar for relaxation is set very low chez ringthing. Arghh!
That all sounds wonderful. And smelling good.
Enjoy!!!
Afternoon nap with cat is the finest form human recovery can take. Enjoy your well-earned rest!
Thanks! He’s got the softest fur of any cat I’ve had, like bunny fur. And he’s very snuggly 🙂
a nap is a most excellent thing. snooze on!
Oh goodness your day sounds like heaven!!!!
Great news! Enjoy your quite literal cat nap and everything else.
What a fantastic day! Everything sounds so great..
Cool and crisp in my Infusion d’Iris. Enjoying my favorite treat, coffee. Realizing it’s almost October…. already. Ready for it though!
Picked up my knitting again for the fall, planning ahead for xmas presents. Gotta sort out my yarn stash and see what i can make with what i have.
Good thing i buy 95% of clothes and furniture at thrift stores, the way i spend on yarn, skincare/lipstick, and perfume ????????????
You smell great.
I’m knitting again as well for the same reasons
hey, I’m itching to knit too. Can’t decide, sweater or shawl or scarf. 😉
I wore that one yesterday! It is a beautiful perfume. You smell lovely
My sister sent me a knitting carry basket for my birthday. It was so thoughtful!
First day at work today after 2 weeks of summer holiday and it wasn’t THAT bad at all.
I wore Queen of the Night by Grandiflora.
Need a couple of days to settle in and then I’ll start writing my vacation travelogue.
Good to be back among perfume friends.
Welcome back. Did you see the new Berdoues coming next year? Looks interesting to me.
Nope I didn’t, Berdoues wasn’t exhibiting
Ah too bad. But I am sure you tried many other wonderful offerings 🙂
Welcome back. Hope your holiday was wonderful.
Yes it was 😀
Welcome back!
Another beautiful spring morning here, and I’m wearing clothes that I haven’t worn for a few months. I’m wearing a cream jacket with black roses, so a rose perfume is definitely called for. Nahema, I think.
Your jacket sounds lovely and Nahema is a perfect counterpart. Nothing better than changing seasons and greeting old friends in beloved clothing and perfume.
Nahema is a gorgeous, makes-me-sigh rose scent. You smell wonderful! ????
SotD = Hiris
I’m on a Hermes kick at the moment. And I’m wearing a cobalt blue and white tunic over white jeans today, so Hiris feels perfect.
I couldn’t figure out why KUSC was playing music from a Pirates of the Caribbean movie this morning. Thanks for reminding me why today is special, Robin.
Argh and avast! You be a fine smellin’ crew.
I would like to like Hermes but I get zippo longevity…far worse even than the Jo Malones or Ateliers. I have a few samples laying around so I might test by lavish sprays on my clothes rather than skin next time.
I think that’s why I like them! I tend to prefer scents that don’t hang around forever. Some long-lasting scents make my nose go numb for a few days. 😉
Yum, Hiris!
😀
Ay, matey, my SOTD is Ava Luxe Johri, with notes of Green Fig, Sicilian Lemon, Chinese Pepper Blossom, Galbanum, Coconut Milk, Cedar Virginia, Sandalwood, Tonka, Bourbon Vanilla, White Musk. It’s so pretty!
Goodbye Picadilly for my day as a small celebratory not to NZ’s 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage, as learned from Kanuka yesterday.
And then some of Beaufort’s Coeur de Noire after swimming. It seemed like the best fit for pirates–it’s got a bad ass seafaring swagger vibe to it. And the name, of course.
Though today would not a a day to be on the high seas. We had full gale force winds. Even in the city, it was gusting up to 60mph.
Your area got hit with 2 storms recently, didn’t it? Ugh.
Ahoy NSTers! I hope that ye be having fair skies and calm seas on this “international Talk Like a Pirate Day”!????♀️????♂️ Of course, with my luck some of my friends are, as they put it, “ninja-centric”. Ha! ????????
SOTD = back in my sample of Silences. Enjoying it again, I am.
Aaargh would be the opposite of Silences. You smell good! I may wear it for my work at home day tomorrow. I was supposed to be off today and tomorriw prior to leaving for DC on Friday (for a 4-day trio) but there was too much work to do. I need to pack and the no commute helps.
Safe travels on your trip! I definitely like Silences, and remember when scents like it were easily found at any department store fragrance counter.
Did you Chergui today? I did!
If you see something, say something. Surprisingly, this is not related to a commuting woe. The mall I go to has a 2nd level where the inside perimeter is lined with 4 ft. glass panels anchored at each end by steel frames and side rails anchors to structural posts. When I came out of s store, I saw a heavy-set guy leaning against a glass panel. All of a sudden, he popped off, looked to his left, then to his right, then quickly walked away. I speculated that he either heard or felt something crack. I went to Customer Service to let them know what U saw. I hope they took me seriously and checked the condition of that section of the mall!
I got nervous just reading this! I hope he would have reported it too!
Judging by his furtive look, my guess would be he did not report it.
oh, gosh, I remember those railings, they never looked strong enough to me. Good on you for speaking up!
I went back to Custoner Service twice! First time there was no one there. I went up to a store to hang out for a little bit, told the SA who did not seem to be alarmed. I did not trust her to do the right thing either so I went back and spoke to the person who got back behind the counter.
Good for you! Sounds dangerous.
I also remember those railings. Good for you, doing the right thing. I can imagine the furor if a railing failed and somebody got hurt or worse!
I was afraid of the “or worse” part.
I tested Puredistance Warszawa today. It’s quite pretty but I was surprised to find that it shares similarities with YSL Champagne. It feels like a modern version of the vintage. Very pretty.
Every time I see you mention this line, I tell myself I need to investigate it. You make this sound really nice.
I hope you feel better soon lillyjo. I’ve been fighting off the crud recently too.
PD uses high quality ingredients and their scents are beautifully made. Not sure if you’re missing out, I have really classic taste, they may not do anything for you. I was actually relieved to get the Champagne association because I have a vintage bottle. Phew! Money saved!
I can send you a some Opardu to try. If you are interested, please email me at llombardi underscore symbol 4 2 at the hawtmail.
It is late so I’ll just add YAY for World gratitude Day- I cannot wait until Friday now…isnt it also our autumnal equinox?
The female hummingbirds will leave us on the east coast in a matter of days. . It is a big deal to me – they are my mother’s spirit animal. My sweet mom died a year ago tomorrow. How odd the coincidence of timing. It is a profound loss that you will carry forever because maternal love is a very powerful and priceless gift.
I will wear a petfume in her honor, either her 1st Love, l’Air d’ Temps (vintage) or her most recent favorite Au Dela.
You will smell beautiful in either choice. A mother’s love is irreplaceable. My mom loves hummingbirds too and I think that will be her spirit animal someday too. A great big hug as you remember your mother tomorrow.
Like She-ra said, either way, you will smell as you remember your sweet mom. Coincidentally re: hummingbirds, my brother and SIL love them as well. They deliberately picked and planted plants known to attract hummingbirds. He recently shared pictures of hummingbirds in flight as their scheme to attract them worked!
