Tuesday scent of the day 9/18

Posted by Robin on 18 September 2018 245 Comments

Tuesday and World Water Monitoring Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

It was not my plan, but my hand went right for L'Eau de L'Artisan. Tea at the moment is a Keemun Hao Ya, and I am grateful for it even if it did not come from that teapot.

Reminder: 9/21 is the International Day of Peace *and* World Gratitude Day. Wear a fragrance that fits.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Sieger by Fürstenberg Wunderkammer porcelain teapot no. 2, with tea strainer, is about $600 at Artedona.

Wow, dirtier than MKK? Now that’s saying something! I’m more likely to get that note from orange blossom, of all things.

Today I am grateful for modern veterinary medicine. My avatar pup, Ollie contracted kennel cough, and due to his compromised immune system, became quite ill. He had been vaccinated, but he spent his 1st six months living on the streets in Spain, and he is a runt.
Some antibiotics, cough meds and a smooch from the vet ( Ollie is very smoochable) and my little goober is resting mostly comfortably.

I, on the other hand, am a broke, sleep deprived, mess. Wearing Orlov, Orlov today. The entire brand sits well on my skin, but this particular one is very soothing.

Oh, he does look smoochable! Poor thing! Orlov is gorgeous!
P.S.–Mom and I were shopping for cat supplies for her new kitty and a lady asked us to reach a small bottle for her. I asked if she was bottle feeding a kitten, and she said no, a puppy. I asked what kind, and she said, “I have it right here!” and pulled out a teensy puppy from her purse! He was the runt of 9 and the mama rejected him, and he was only 4 days old and would fit in your palm–a pug-Chihuahua mix. I really hope she manages to pull him through.

        TINY pupper!

(I saw the sweetest very young splotch-patterned staffie out on what was clearly his first walk on a lead the other day… though worried that he was too young to have had all his jabs yet. Couldn’t have been more than 10 weeks…12 at a push.)

My neighbours have a couple of rescue dogs from Spain, who were both in a bad way at the start–one a street dog, the other a discarded hunting dog. They are bloody lovely puppers.

I’m in the remnants of Chergui again. Because I needed it. Also, just slapped in some Burt’s Bees Hand Salve and got a compliment. Go figure. It smells like bug spray to me, but works wonders on my dry cracked hands.

It’s funny, I have Santal 26 which is meant to be a room spray. I got it in London at Liberty. The SA told me I could wear it as a perfume if I wanted to. I think I prefer it to Santal 33. The 26 is much more a pepper scent and quite nice. I never have heard it discussed.

I have the Santal 26 candle which I like very much and it has lasted me 3 years (and still going)! I do like the smell of 26 better than 33- I think it smells woodier and doesn’t have the dill note I pick up in 33.

I am smelling beautiful in Infusion d’Iris thanks to the swap meet

Spraying an iris based perfume is perfect on this rainy humid day…

Tea is espresso from my new machine which I made into a very yummy cappuccino.

I tested the rest of the Essential parfumes ( I couldn’t wait) from the sample set, and if I had a favorite it would be the Rose Magnetic. The notes are:
Grapefruit, peppermint, Turkish rose absolute, rose extract, lychee, cedar, vanilla, tonka and price point is very good!

Bottega Veneta today, thinking it was cooler out than it is. I usually save this one for cooler temps, but I think I like it better with a little heat- it seems less dry/peppery and the sweeter notes are amped a bit. Anyway, enjoyed spraying it from that awesome fine mist bottle, and it’s a pleasant diversion from my usual, dry Tuesday AM meeting.

I think in really cold weather I smell it mostly on my clothing, and I like it less on clothing than on skin. I’m with you on being in no hurry for snow-though worse for you all who have to drive, I think. I’d really, really hate it then.

Chiming in too that my favorites in the line are Nice Bergamote and Mon Vetiver. Rose Magnetic comes in third and The Musc and Orange X Santal went to the giveaway pile. Orange X Santal was too traditional masculine for my taste and The Musc was very average smelling.

Thanks ! Rose Milk reminds me of my childhood also. No one in my family wore Shalimar though. I remember my Mom buying it as a gift for someone back in the early 80s. I smelled it, and made a face. It took me a long time to appreciate Shalimar, but I love it now.

    SotM = Vanille Galante

I love it when I’m just waking up, not quite conscious, and a fragrance will pass through my mind. Today it was VG. I smell like I’ve had a bit too much to drink, rum and vanilla, hic! Lucky me, it will wear off by the time I get to school this morning.

I’m having a Hermes thing right now. In the past few days I’ve worn Hiris, EdM (twice), Iris Ukiyoe, and Myrrh Eglantine. They all feel effortless.

In Heeley Sel Marin. One of my favorite beachy scents. I imagine myself walking by the ocean on this warm, grey, rainy day. It would be very relaxing and peaceful. At least I am enjoying the thought on another busy, crazy, freezing day at work. At least, Sel Marin is making me dream of better places! ????

Fleurs de Sel is more focused on vetiver and leather, if I remember well from a sample. It is similar to TDC Sel de Vetiver.
Sel Marin is more aquatic, centered on seaweed and algae. The vetiver is not that pronounced here. It smells like ocean water. Salty and very mineral.

There’s a lot of cardamom, smoke and pepper to start with, but the smoke dissipates pretty quickly. It’s assertive out of the gate, but settles and gets almost snuggly in a half hour or so. It wears close; not much projection on me, but it lasted a good six hours. I like it, and am looking forward to trying it again in cooler temps. Hope this helps! It’s the first MdO I’ve tried, (I think!), so I have no idea how it compares to her other offerings.

I did kind of finish a bottle of perfume. A bottle of vintage Miss Dior was evaporating pretty quickly in the bottle so I have been finishing it off quickly, using it as a bed time scent. So I finished off the last half ounce this morning. Good thing I have a back up vintage. Those dabbers and screw tops do evaporate pretty quick. I am looking at a couple spray bottles that are reasonably priced on Ebay and yes, I am getting a bottle. I shall continue on with vintage Miss Dior today.

Testing Wasanbon by Satori. LT calls it a hideous gourmand, a complete dud in the otherwise brilliant Satori range. I do disagree but mostly because I can’t smell it unless I press my nose to wrist. I only have a dabber but I don’t think spraying would make much difference. What I can smell is a faint whiff of powdered lemon honey. Wish I could smell it better but it is completely nonoffensive IMHO. ????????????

Robin, have we ever done a swapmeet that’s decant-only? This last swapmeet gave me an idea that seems like it might be fun, where all we post to swap are lists of our bottles that we’ll decant in return for other bottle decants.

It could be kind of like having our own internal sampling service ;)

I’m wearing Niral for the first time today and am enjoying it. I wanted something easy to wear because I have a lot to accomplish at work today. I’m hoping this perfume can help me buckle down and focus on certain tasks. A calm perfume is also called for because my co-workers in my department have been a mix of high maintenance and cranky lately and some of them are having issues communicating with each other. Luckily none of it is directed at me, but I end up hearing about it or being in the middle of awkward discussions or complaints.

Yesterday I smelled distractingly great in Civet. I must have sniffed my wrist 30 times throughout the day.

Rainy and thundery in beantown today. I guess we are getting the trailing rain from Florence. I was wondering if any NSTers are in regions down south that were so badly flooded? If you are, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I saw some photos online and it looked bad.
I’m still technically separated from my perfumes, they are in my ex-husband’s basement, a temporary storage place till I find a more permanent home for me and them. I’m staying temporarily with a close friend and luckily I pre-infested her home with perfumes in the way of gifts to her over the years. So I have had access to JM Red Roses, Parfum Sacre, Galop and YR Neroli. As well as a travel spray of “The Musc”, a mini of Coromandel, a tiny drop of LDDM (this was my travel kit in Colorado) and of all things, a big bottle of Ananas Fizz that I have been taking baths in during the hot weather.

I’ve been a wandering nomad for about two years now, but finally want to settle down and exploring different areas to do that. It most likely will be in Vermont.

SOTD is a tiny wrist dab of Coromandel – seems to go well with this muggy wet weather.

Your perfumes being stored by your ex-H makes me nervous. But maybe your ex-H is much kinder than mine was. Anything I left behind, intentionally or inadvertently, is long gone. Until you have a permanent place, enjoy the bottles you have!

My dad’s old adage of “rain before 7, done by 11” is not holding true today. Made for a good morning of sleeping though, which is exactly what I did since I had to work a night shift last night.????
SotD is the last of my Tea for Two sample. I haven’t worn this one since last fall and I have forgotten how good it is. I could definitely see having a decant of this in my collection. Today the bergamot is really coming through, which I didn’t notice the last time I wore it.

It’s the 19th Sept. here and the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage in NZ (1893 first country to give women the vote) so I am trying to think of a good match for a suffragette or a woman in political power. I have decided on Kerbside Violet partly because of the colour associations with the suffrage movement and partly because of violet scent associations with women ( as something quite common) and the idea of a popular movement gaining strength on the streets and protest etc.

Nice choice to honour the day. I will wear some Goodbye Picadilly for you tomorrow. While set a little later than NZ’s more sensible date, 4160’s Sarah describes it as “A scent for Suffragettes, first made for London Transport Museum with materials used in 1914: violet, iris, lavender, leather, vanilla and patchouli.”

SOTD = Silences, from the sample stash. I am grateful that a generous NSTer sent me a sample of it, so I could see what people here were talking about. It is a good scent for “Keep Calm and Waft On!”

SOTD- Chanel No5 L’eau- the more I wear it the more I like it. It is still very warm/hot in Michigan, so I continue wearing summer scents. Bought a mini of Bottega Veneta Eau Legere for fall- I always liked it, but not enough to purchase a FB. I guess things have changed since I learned it was discontinued, plus I felt the need to treat myself, so there you go :)

I’m in Handsome Man Wearing Seersucker Suit Sipping Iced Tea perfume because tiffanie wore Assam of India yesterday and Chanel Allure Pour Homme Edition Blanche layers very well with it! Who says you can’t wear white after Labor Day?

In a when it rains it pours scenario, I got a text alert from my bank asking if I attempted to use my debit card at a gas station? I went oh no not again! So I quickly texted back no and immediately got a phone call. I realized that I must have dropped my card where I had lunch (my badge holder also has slots for a few cards and it got caught around the handle of my bag). Anyway, whoever picked it up got greedy and bought a pizza, something from a vape shop and then finally the gas station. So my bank did the right thing and detected an unusual pattern (I.e. I’ve never spent more than $20 on the card). I was able to close the card, dispute the charges immediately and get a replacement card. At least for this one I knew where my account/card was picked up. I hope whoever got the card smarted when the transaction got declined, get food poisoning from the pizza and rot in financial hell.
