Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, mid September 2018

Posted by Robin on 15 September 2018 358 Comments

September is flying by. PSAs: our swapmeet will be open through Tueday, and the freebiemeet will open two weeks from today, on the 29th. Also this weekend, the Grito de Dolores, Prince Harry's birthday, International Eat An Apple Day. And, Florence is still causing havoc. Vox has an article on the many places you can donate if you want to help out.

Meantime, our regular open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, a fragrance you're dying to get a sample of, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

SotM 1 = Ineke Hothouse Flower
    SotM 2 = Molecule 02

Yum, I try to eat an apple every day, especially this time of year. Just bought some Braeburns. I love them.

HF has a great white flower/green accents opening but then falls into a fruity note that many Ineke’s have, it turns acrid on me, boo!

M2 is interesting, it opens sort of woody-hairspray-acetone, mellows for a few minutes, then poof! It’s gone, at least to my nose. Weird. I’ll try layering it under EdM and see what happens.

Have a great weekend, NSTers! Do something nice for yourself today, you deserve it.

M2 is weird like that. It will come and go, depending on the heat and humidity of your surroundings. Wear it on a cool, dry day and you’ll sense nothing; wear it in the height of summer and you’ll definitely have a better chance of smelling it…..all day.

Agree about M2! Do not assume it’s gone to everyone just because you can’t smell it.

Good to know! I just sniffed again, get a faint pine-y woody note. Very nice. It’s hot here today, so I’ll spritz more later and go outside. 😉

I’m wearing Origins Ginger Essence today, another one that’s so good but I forget to wear. Today is a day of laundry, baking, and reading because my library books are piling up. I waited a long time for some of them and if I don’t finish them before the lending period expires it might be months before I get them again.

I’m in By Kilian Gold Knight, which strikes me as a mix of all the stuff I like about “masculine” scents, and none of the stuff I don’t.

Just learned that I’m probably going to have to take on a boatload of extremely tedious administrative stuff in my job, and am trying like heck to not feel overburdened and start crying. I’m at least out of Florence’s way, and not – as my friend from NC is – staying in a motel far north, after abandoning her house.

Be safe, all of you in the path of the hurricane.

Sorry to hear of the extra burden at work. I sometimes think companies deliberately try to work employees to death in hopes they will either break down and quit, or be unable to keep up with workload, which is a perfect unreasonable reason to fire people. They can then hire lesser qualified people for a fraction of the cost. I’ve seen this happen in nursing many times. So sad. I hope you friend and her house get through this intact. ????????

Deva, how weirdly perceptive. The reason the tasks will be falling on me is because the person who is currently performing them has been over worked, over stressed, and is at his wit’s end. He called me this morning to let me know that he just can’t do it anymore. I empathize with him, while I am also wailing inside – I don’t want the extra work, either. 🙂

johanob, I think it is happening everywhere, in many professions. I am a professor at a small community college, a job I have loved and a profession I believe to be noble. Over the past decade, though, my joy in my work has steadily diminished.

Hats off to you Lisa D! I will tell you that based on my experience with my own children and from what the parents of their peers have told me the professors at community colleges are extraordinarily caring and passionate about the field of teaching and really willing to help the students. This is not always the case at a four year university where there can be upwards of 450 students in a very large lecture hall. The younger two marzipans took college classes in high school over their summers and it was such an amazing experience for them and a rewarding introduction to college classes.

I hope that things work out for you and that your joy returns.

The squeeze is real. The elementary school where I teach music has animosity between the teaching staff and administration. It’s always about the “extra” work that keeps piling on. It’s sad. Hang in there, Lisa D!

tiffanie, same here; we often feel like we’re weirdly under siege. 🙂

However, we are paid well – not the case with many of you folks in the elementary school system, which is tragic, because you do SO MUCH WORK, and such critical work at that.

Thanks for the empathy and good wishes, everybody! You know I’m going to face it all with my perfume bottles at the ready.

I like your description of Gold Knight!

And don’t get me started on suddenly finding yourself acquiring more work. We do not have enough business analysts…so project managers end up doing a chunk of the analysis. And in the name of “self-service”, admin work got pushed out.

Ugh! I know exactly what you are referring to; like you, there are most people on my work team in the same boat. We’ve had people quit due to the volume of work coupled with having to become more technically saavy; the extra work then gets split out to a few and their already maxxed out workload is added to; almost like we are set up to fail! There is no more capacity!

Perfume is one of our best defences! Keep on smelling fabulous.

Lots of us have the same problem at work and most of us are overworked and underpaid. But that’s what happens when we work for other people’s benefit…they make the money and don’t have to work as hard as we do.

Mr L is traveling this weekend so I am holding down the fort solo.

I am making madeleines tomorrow for some guest that are coming over..one of my favorite baked dishes to make besides scones.

I went over to the coffee culture website last week and ordered some espresso for my new machine and it is going well, and I like the taste.

I am in Balenciaga L’Essence today and reading the WSJ and hoping the little ones will take a nap soon…this mom is exhausted.

When I started this travel gig, my first contract was in Jacksonville N.C. I camped out on Okracoke and in the Croatan National Forest along the Neuse River. My first night there was frigid, I had no fire wood, and was thinking I had made a terrible mistake. The next day, a couple that were camped next to me offered me firewood, which I declined because I didn’t want them to run short. Then they invited myself and T-Rex over to their campspot, treated T-Rex like a Queen, fed me anything and everything, and introduced me to Not Your Fathers Root Beer. They were locals who camped there frequently. Wonderful people and when Florence popped up, they are who I first thought of. I hope they are safe and their home was spared. They were a retired couple living in a fixed income, and so generous with everything they had.

SOTD is SL Chergui because I felt a cool breeze this morning. Also, I may have purchased something (or more than one something) with the 20% off Twisted Lily coupon last night. At 4am. Because I couldn’t sleep. Seems reason enough for me…????

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and all in juggernaut Flo’s path are safe and warm. ❤️

Usually, I kind of do a window shopping type thing: I see all the things I want at good prices, put each bottle in my cart, and then I realize I have upwards of 5 or 10 bottles rattling around in my virtual cart, become so disgusted with myself, I end up closing out the page. Money saved ????

Ha, so funny because I was just thinking about a work situation on the unit I’m currently on, and it’s not kind thoughts! If I wrote a book about it, it would scathing, scandalous, and decidedly critical. If I could write simply about tooling around in a campever and smelling good, that would be a best seller. ????

Hi all! I hope everyone is staying safe in these trying weather patterns.

I’m in original formula Yohji Essential, for which Kevin reviewed the reissue. The original formula starts a bit herbal, and smells like a wildflower bouquet (I smell a very clean jasmine and chamomile). There is a touch of fruitiness, somehow connecting the apple-ness of chamomile to a vague berry smell. Very clean though and very 90’s. I’m a big fan.

Put down my seriously depressing book, which will go unnamed as it no doubt tips into the political arena correctly forbidden in this forum, to check in at NST. It is a gorgeous morning here. I have all the doors open to the back deck, and our big beautiful dumb kitty is washing himself on my bed, periodically opening one eye to watch the wild turkey just outside the door. No perfume on yet… maybe it is a Shangri La day? Husband and son #2 are away at a camp for kids who have had a similar illness as my son. It is a bit of a slog for my husband, but my son loves it. So it is quiet, sunny, and peaceful at home. Lots to be grateful for indeed.

Here’ s a question. Anyone have a perfume you love wearing, even crave, except whenever you first apply it, in that moment you are mildly surprised that it doesn’t smell very good…. yet you continue to crave it and cannot imagine swapping it away? I have this funny vexed relationship with several of my perfumes.

Yes. Well, most of the turkeys that wander up to our back doors are chickens (sorry turkeys, that is the cold truth). But there is one, sort of looks like s/he’s been in a few battles, that really wants in. Stamping our feet and banging pans (needless to say, both cats are scared of this one) doesn’t do much. When this fierce fowl visits, I pull the curtains across the doors, or close the doors altogether. One afternoon s/he spent hours flapping at the windows and leaving golf ball sized deposits on the deck. I thought it was hilarious, but no one else did.

Can’t remember how to link my instagram account (I use it so rarely!) but here’s a pic o two. https://www.instagram.com/nerolimyrrh/?hl=en

So, I did a double take on your msg. “Jugs” has another meaning in the US. It is a WWII slang term for, well, you can figure it out. Let’s just say your zooming in on my beautiful jugs gave me pause!

Aren’t those roses stunning. I’ve always been a pale rose person, but had a yen for hot pink. The shop made an error and sold me 4 dozen instead of 2 dozen, so I had hot pink roses galore. I am now all about hot pink roses!!

LOL. Robin, my father (who lives here in Oregon) leaves a door open at all times, year-round so the kitties can come and go as they please. As a result, (aided no doubt by the catfood he leaves out for strays) he ALSO gets a family of opossums who sometimes come and go. And then there’s the raccoon whose a regular visitor. And the skunks. . . Yeah. Can I excuse him to better society on the grounds that he’s an old hippie? ????

Yes,The Different Company Rose Poivree comes to mind first, mainly because I was sold on the idea that it was supposedly a less intense version of ELdO’s Rossy de Palma.Turns out I love the intensity of Rossy more.
Iris Silver Mist:this is truly dependant on the weather, for me anyway. On sunny days I find it harsh and overwhelming, cloudy rainy days it is perfection.

I can see that happening with Mitsouko. To me M is more like a wine that needs to open up… It can be tight and squeaky for first 1-10 mins, and then it is astoundingly beautiful.

Now that you mention it, I think that’s true of a good number of perfumes, although of course I can’t remember which ones just now.

One that I sampled recently is Ormonde Jayne Black Gold. It has a note up top that I actively dislike. After that disappears, I’m fine with it. Although TBH I don’t notice all those special, expensive natural and supernatural notes they advertise, but rather a deep carpet of Iso E Super, the delicious, addictive junk food of modern perfumery.

Far more frustrating to me are perfumes that have great top notes that soon depart leaving an entirely commonplace heart and base. There are also some very good perfumes that have even better top notes. I’m left feeling resentful, even though I really like the rest of the perfume. L’AP Nuit de Tubereuse is one example. The nose is a cruel mistress!

I know what you mean about Nuit de Tubereuse. For me it is mostly my not so fancy frags–Weekend in Normandy, Mac’s Lady Danger, even the perennial favorite Encre Noir… and many others. Cruel mistress or method to his madness?

L’Artisan Poivre Piquant. Every time I wear it, I tell myself, “Okay, remember next time that this doesn’t work for you,” and yet, I keep it, and periodically wear it.

Hey peeps…do check out the swapmeet as I posted swaps for a donation to either mental health advocacy or Hurricane Florence relief. My entry is towards the bottom.

    https://nstperfume.com/2018/09/08/the-swapmeet-episode-13/

SOTD = commando but will put something on in a little bit

I worked for most of the morning but I’m done for today!

So, if you have not heard, a guy was found SHAVING on a NJ Transit Train. Had I seen this myself, it would have been high up in an all time Commuting Woe. I read that he flicked some of the shaving cream on the floor – how disgusting is that?!!

In this episode of what did the DOG do —
    – dog park with 3 dogs and twice as many humans. The large dog kept chasing the medium sized dog wanting to sniff its butt. The medium sized dog kept yelping and then leaping up on a bench where his owner sat, after which, the owner dumped him back on the ground and then the chasing and butt sniffing cycle started all over again.
    – Dog training human to fetch (loosely). I’m totally serious. So normally, the human would toss a stick or a ball and the dog would run after it and bring it back to the human. Yesterday, I saw a dog take a red ball in his mouth and dropped it about 10 yards under a tree and then went back to his human and they walked together towards the ball.

That was what I didn’t get – the instructions called for almost half a cup of conditioner (no shampoo) and I rinsed as much as I could but I think it was formulated to almost be waterproof, not in a sticky waterproof mascara way but resistant to a complete rinse out. Anyway, I’m glad it did not damage your hair and you got reimbursed.

Good on you for donating to Locks of Love. I used to have long hair (down to mid-back) but that was when I was 8 ???? and got help with cleaning and drying my very thick hair. My hair still grows fast and I try to keep it short!

Yes, I rinsed for an extra 5 minutes per instructions, and it still felt like there was too much residue.

Okay…I don’t mean to add to the grossness of public transit stories, but I can’t resist. The shaving thing is beyond ridiculous…it’s really quite crazy. Do people do these things hoping to have their stories go viral?

My local rag in Nor Cal published photos and a story from a local woman whose family rode BART into SF recently on a weekend. A person on the train urinated. The liquid spread all over the floor and was on the seat. They changed cars more than once to try and find peace and cleanliness….

This does not surprise me at all. When I live downtown St Pete in the 90’s, anytime there was an event, our manager would lock the elevator on the second floor otherwise some people would use it as a toilet. So disgusting!

Haha. Do you often take BART? I’ve seen/smelled plenty of awful things on it (counting urine in this category), but a coworker of mine takes the cake. He has to take two different BARTs from his home in Berkeley down to our workplace in Fremont. On the first train he took one day, he found his seat neighbor shooting up (heroin? some kind of drug). On the second train that same day, he stepped into a particularly stinky car. A few minutes later, a BART officer walked through, looked around for a while, then recoiled and said into his phone, “Yep, I found it–it’s a massive #2.” So. Everyone had to evacuate that car at the next station.

What I’m saying is, urine seems relatively benign ever since he told me that story 🙂

I commuted on BART for 7 years. Although it was dirty, I didn’t witness too many really bad issues. A friend recently had the same experience with someone shooting up. He left behind his needles and everything.

Hi everyone! This morning I sent out eight swap packages. My post office employees are so nice, but were a bit confounded – they ran out of those “can’t go in an airplane” stickers and the whole line stopped while everyone looked for more, so I owe the postal customers behind me an apology. However, those of you I swapped with can rest assured that your packages will arrive appropriately stickered, I guess.

Now I shall lean back and wait for the return packages to roll in… this is going to be an exciting and good-smelling month!

Today I’m wearing Eau du Sud (it’s hot again!) as I do some freelance work. I started 3 hours ago but only worked for about 15 minutes before I slid into the most delicious nap. When I finish I’m going to work on my latest Sporcle quiz for you all – this one will be diabolically difficult, mwahaha.

Oh dear – I’m a swap newbie and sent out packages without that sticker! What happens to packages without it? Is the sticker necessary because it’s perfume?

I think you’ll be fine! You don’t put the sticker on yourself, the post office does it for you if you say “yes” when they ask you that question about whether the package contains perfume. Honestly I don’t think I had even seen one before I moved here, so maybe it is just a foible of my local PO. And I think some people even straight-up lie when they ask that question and I’ve never heard of anyone getting in trouble.

I continued with my testing of the Sylvaine Delacourte vanilla set. Vahina was a scrubber – just sickly floral to me. Vanori smelled like sun tan lotion – not bad. The whole line actually has a body lotion undertone which I like. My favorite is the Virgile – the vanilla and cedar combo works here! I decided to order the Musk discovery set as well despite the withering one-line dismissals it got in The Guide.

I have both the vanilla and the musk sampler set and I feel like all 10 scents share a common base, or DNA. None were scrubbers for me, but none of them really spoke to me either. At $4 for 5 samples though, definitely worth a try!

What can I say? I have weird skin….it devours most scents but amps up the sweetness. I think the fact that I did not know what it was made me evaluate it more objectively. Plus, when I shoved my tiny wrist up MR. Marzipan’s nose and said “smell this” he responded “that’s nice…pretty innocuous”….so I know it isn’t just me that smells this as pleasant. It reminds me of all the beaches of my youth…Sunken Meadow, Rockaway, Jones….the smell of the Atlantic Ocean.

I can still smell the last traces of last night’s Salome, it’s potent, even with a tiny spray. I tried three hefty sprays once, and nearly suffocated. I might apply a little more so that I can strip wallpaper fragrantly.

I’m contemplating a significant purchase today, Frederic Malle’s Noir Épices. I was amazed to find the line locally, and I want to encourage that, and I finally got the pay rise that I’d been after for two years. Very frustrating, but sometimes politeness and perseverance pay off 🙂

Wearing SL Bas de Soie after making a decant of it for the swapmeet 🙂

Speaking of swapping: What’s the best way to clean funnels and vials for decanting? Is there any way to really get the smell of the previous perfume out of them?

I can usually manage to clear the scent residue from funnels by soaking them in a bowl of warm water for about a week (I dump the water and add new hot water about daily), but I’ve never been able to clear a vial. Have thought about boiling them, but haven’t actually tried that.

Meant to add that I don’t think there’s any way to get the scent out of the plastic sprayers for small vials, if that’s what you have – there’s just too many nooks and crannies that are inaccessible in those.

    • Robin says:

I think most people do not clean vials, and most people would rather not get a fragrance in a used vial.

If you’re decanting, you should use stainless, which cleans easily. I would not decant with a plastic funnel.

In general I think I’d rather use a straw if I don’t have a stainless funnel, or the funnel doesn’t fit.

I have found funnels problematic — never the right size, top-heavy and tippy, worrisome to clean, etc. Disposable pipettes or cocktail straws (used like pipettes) are much easier to use. The disposable pipettes come in different sizes.

Please don’t reuse anything! My worst and most bitterly disappointing ebay experience ever was buying a very old stoppered bottle of Guerlain Vetiver that the seller unilaterally decided to decant into an empty Caron Bain de Champagne (Bain de Caron) bottle. OF COURSE it has that strong melon note of BdC! It’s not worth taking a chance.

Haha!Yes cataract surgery has mostly positive results, and it is lifechanging for our patients who thought they were “blind”.The big negative is it slightly alters your depth perception, and you have to choose between either seeing very well far,or very well up close when you discuss your new lens with the doctor. We’ve done multifocal inplants, but most of those patients ended up coming back asking for a replacement lens for either result.

We also had a gorgeous day, quite warm, in Michigan today. I took my mom around: we went to the local farmers market and bought beautiful heirloom tomatoes, okra, sweet corn, and home-made cinnamon rolls and molasses cookies. Mmmm! We went to a thrift store and I bought her a nice cardigan in a beautiful periwinkle color for the massive sum of $2. Tonight we went out for dinner with my brother and I was ecstatic because I got to have my favorite fish, walleye, and it was delicious! Dealing with Mom’s Alzheimer’s is really exhausting. I’m glad she can still enjoy these excursions. And did I say that I brought up a cat to live with her? It too was a bit stressful, but has gone so well and she was thrilled, and she seems happy. She was napping in her recliner chair today with him on her lap, and it was so sweet. I wore Oud Satin Mood today, but tonight am in Indult Manakars—decadent and indulgent.

Hello! Would it be possible to request a post/article on a specific topic? I have adored Annick Goutal forever – but it is soo hard to find certain scents now that a lot have been discont’d over the years…does anyone here have any idea? beauty supplies are probably a good place to look… you can find bottles on ebay of course. Des Lys, Le Jasmin, hm…well I haven’t been able to find them self. Mon Parfum Par Cheri is also discont’d but there are a few bottles on ebay. Clearly the line is going through a transformation – the bottles/packaging have totally changed too…but there are so many wonderful perfumes worth looking over from the line still, of what remains of it. Plus, they recently came out with Chat Perché – for people 3 & up – I didn’t see a review of that one on here 🙂 Would love anyone’s thoughts on the new Eau de Ciel too – if it’s worth it… I find the line so romantic and saw on Alanis Morisette’s site that Des Lys is one of her favs… https://alanis.com/news/top-10-favorite-perfumes/ She writes very nicely of course. my beloved late (and coincidentally French) father used to buy perfume for my mother from AG in Paris & I grew up smelling Eau de Lavande, Eau de Camille & of course Petite Cherie – which I loved to wear as a young girl. sad they’re rumored to be cutting it down from 45 to 25 fragrances…it is interesting seeing how the line is changing…I wonder if there is backstock of the discontd perfumes you can order directly from them in Paris? Would love to know if anyone has any info about this 🙂

      Where do you live?

Annick Goutal just went through a rebranding. It is now Goutal Paris, Conteur de Parfums.

Angie has written some general articles about shopping for discontinued scents. In the particularly case of AG, you need to be careful, some of them did not have long shelf lives (Petite Cherie in particular) and so I’d be hesitant to buy an old bottle on eBay.

They are definitely trimming the line.

I also LOVE AG. I find the fragrances so easy to wear. If you can find someone to courier for you from the UK, Notino has a big selection and fairly well priced. Notino doesn’t ship overseas though. Sad face.

Don’t Notino and Beauty Encounter in the US have common ownership? I thought I read that somewhere. BE has quite a few AGs in the fluted bottles, though I don’t know whether any are to be discontinued.

It’s s a super grey and dreary day here – Florence has arrived, and she brought a bunch of rain with her. However, there is no wind. We’ve been extremely lucky. Yesterday I wore Munchen by Frau Tonis Perfumes, read two books and got stir crazy. Today I’m hoping the rain will let off in the afternoon so I can go for a nice long walk.

The one nice thing is that it cooled down enough to try heavier fragrances. I’m trying Bibliotheque from Byredo. The fruit at the opening was almost too much, but it’s now mellowing into something really lovely.

    Have a lovely Sunday.

I received an unexpected gift this weekend: my husband’s boss’ wife, who found out that I love fragrance, found these unusual little bottles of Roger & Gallet “dry perfume” in a vintage store and bought them for me! (Yes, she’s a really nice person). One is labelled Dogwood, the other Sandalwood, and I’ve found both listed on a chronological listing of R&G perfumes. The contents look like white powder. I haven’t opened them yet. Apparently this is a format R&G sold for a while, as I also found Blue Carnation, one of its more famous scents, mentioned as having been issued as “dry perfume.” Does anyone know any more about these?

Eat an Apple Day is something I can definitely get behind. I have one every morning with almond butter alongside my sausage and eggs. My favorite are Honeycrisp, which are just starting to come into season locally. Whole Foods carries them year round though so I have gotten spoiled with being able to find them. They used to be just a fall treat.
SotD yesterday was LAP Histoire D’Orangers from a sample. A lovely orange blossom which worked better with my skin and nose than Seville did.
Today I’m thinking JM Lime Basil and Mandarin. We are having the most beautiful, summer like weather.

Thank you Robin for hosting the swapmeet. This was my first time participating and I am looking forward to trying several new scents in the next couple of weeks.????

It’s been another awful week in the painful, difficult year that has been 2018. Two months after I lost my beloved female Papillon Dot, we discovered a tumor on the neck of my sweet male Papillon Rikki. The cancer was very aggressive and we had to have him put to sleep Friday. I am heartbroken and devastated. My house is so empty and quiet. No interest in perfume or anything else right now.

Fragrancenet buyers – I’m eyeing a bottle that is on clearance and their pop up says “save 30% by signing up for texts”. Is that 30% on top of the sales price?

I haven’t seen one pop up that says sign up for texts, only for email. But they should show you a manufacturer price, then their price, then take the 30 percent off of their price.

Take a look at the price. If it says “price with coupon,” it means that they show it already with the discount, and you get a better price only if the code they would give you gives a better % off than what they currently show, but you cannot combine those. The best discount I’ve ever got from them was 37%. If you follow them for a week or two, you’ll see it.

        Agree w/ Undina.

37% is the best I have seen too. Usually if you search in Chrome browser for a fragrance and if Fragrancenet carries it, they will show an ad banner at top of page you can click on and/or you can click on Shopping tab on top of page too and they will give you 37% off when you click through to site.

Sneaking in here on a Sunday morning . . . hello all!
I know I’ve been AWOL, so maybe I should say “Hello to those who kinda remember me,” instead!
Life has been busy, busy, busy for far too long. Simple pleasures like perfume seem like indulgences that I can’t always prioritize.
I hope everyone on the east coast is doing ok and keeping dry.

I took a look at the swapmeet and realized that even though I saw things I like, I am not the right sort of perfume animal to participate. I (theoretically!) wear pretty much everything I own, so there’s nothing to swap away! Guess I should buy myself a bottle of Au Dela when I find a moment to pamper myself again. ????

OOO I did not know this!!! Did you try the other two? I am loving the Birch and might just do the same cream combo today…it has a creamsicle vibe.

Yes, the other 2 are also really nice. They were a good release from B&BW, which it doesn’t happen often.

This has been a busier than usual weekend. Nothing major, just a bunch of small things that wanted me to deal with them, so I did. There have been blue skies for me for parts of yesterday and most of today, what a relief!!! ????????????????

SOTD = back playing in the sample stash with Miller Harris L’Air de Rien EdP. I like it a lot! This could also make my list for “Best Fall Scents”.

That sense of accomplishment feels good. It’s a relief to take care of those nagging tasks.

Glad you had a sunny weekend!

Weather today was warm but otherwise spectacular … we took a walk at the local gardens, something I don’t think we’ve done since spring.

I’m getting woody incense over vetiver and something tea-like – the opening is beautiful but the longevity on me was surprisingly short.

Oh, i have not heard that one mentioned here yet…I had some vetiver oil with vanilla in a warmer, and I wondered if there were a vanilla/vetiver perfume, and that is the scent that came up after some research. Glad to hear it is enjoyable!

A great weekend–I biked 23 and a half miles today! And only 6 yesterday. Also today, I THUNK’d my 7.5mL of Pomelo Paradis. I will have to look into getting a 30mL for next summer.

This weekend was JCE’s Un Jardin en Méditerranée, a figgy nod of solidarity to the good folks of…wait for it…Ocracoke Island, which weathered Flo pretty well. They take their figs very seriously: https://www.thedailybeast.com/living-on-an-island-of-figs
Loved the shot of the lighthouse that led the post.

Here is my favorite recipe that uses fresh figs, it’s easy and yummy: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018294-roasted-chicken-with-figs-and-rosemary.

Wonderful! Thank you! A friend on social media recently posted a picture of her fig clafoutis, which looked absolutely glorious. The fig treat we have from Ocracoke is a small jar of the local fig preserves, warmed, over the best vanilla ice cream we can find. Insanely good!
