September is flying by. PSAs: our swapmeet will be open through Tueday, and the freebiemeet will open two weeks from today, on the 29th. Also this weekend, the Grito de Dolores, Prince Harry's birthday, International Eat An Apple Day. And, Florence is still causing havoc. Vox has an article on the many places you can donate if you want to help out.
Meantime, our regular open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, a fragrance you're dying to get a sample of, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

SotM 1 = Ineke Hothouse Flower
SotM 2 = Molecule 02
Yum, I try to eat an apple every day, especially this time of year. Just bought some Braeburns. I love them.
HF has a great white flower/green accents opening but then falls into a fruity note that many Ineke’s have, it turns acrid on me, boo!
M2 is interesting, it opens sort of woody-hairspray-acetone, mellows for a few minutes, then poof! It’s gone, at least to my nose. Weird. I’ll try layering it under EdM and see what happens.
Have a great weekend, NSTers! Do something nice for yourself today, you deserve it.
M2 is weird like that. It will come and go, depending on the heat and humidity of your surroundings. Wear it on a cool, dry day and you’ll sense nothing; wear it in the height of summer and you’ll definitely have a better chance of smelling it…..all day.
Agree about M2! Do not assume it’s gone to everyone just because you can’t smell it.
Good to know! I just sniffed again, get a faint pine-y woody note. Very nice. It’s hot here today, so I’ll spritz more later and go outside. 😉
I’m wearing Origins Ginger Essence today, another one that’s so good but I forget to wear. Today is a day of laundry, baking, and reading because my library books are piling up. I waited a long time for some of them and if I don’t finish them before the lending period expires it might be months before I get them again.
I am close: cleaning, bills, reading 🙂
Robin, that’s exactly what I did today…unfortunately, the cleaning took most of my time.
I love Ginger Essence – I have a travel spray that I carry with me a lot in the summer
You smell fabulous.
I’m trying to finish reading Pachinko before I have to return it to the library.
I’m in By Kilian Gold Knight, which strikes me as a mix of all the stuff I like about “masculine” scents, and none of the stuff I don’t.
Just learned that I’m probably going to have to take on a boatload of extremely tedious administrative stuff in my job, and am trying like heck to not feel overburdened and start crying. I’m at least out of Florence’s way, and not – as my friend from NC is – staying in a motel far north, after abandoning her house.
Be safe, all of you in the path of the hurricane.
Sorry to hear of the extra burden at work. I sometimes think companies deliberately try to work employees to death in hopes they will either break down and quit, or be unable to keep up with workload, which is a perfect unreasonable reason to fire people. They can then hire lesser qualified people for a fraction of the cost. I’ve seen this happen in nursing many times. So sad. I hope you friend and her house get through this intact. ????????
Deva, how weirdly perceptive. The reason the tasks will be falling on me is because the person who is currently performing them has been over worked, over stressed, and is at his wit’s end. He called me this morning to let me know that he just can’t do it anymore. I empathize with him, while I am also wailing inside – I don’t want the extra work, either. 🙂
Ugh, so sorry Lisa D!
Thanks, Robin. I hope I will power through it, while smelling fantastic.
So true Deva,I’ve seen it many times in nursing myself. And that is sad, given the state and reputation of our profession these days.
johanob, I think it is happening everywhere, in many professions. I am a professor at a small community college, a job I have loved and a profession I believe to be noble. Over the past decade, though, my joy in my work has steadily diminished.
I’m sorry this is happening to you Lisa D!We spend so much time at work,it really should be a joy to go there everyday.I hope your situation does not get the better of you!Chin up and stay smelling fabulous!!
❤️✌????????
Hats off to you Lisa D! I will tell you that based on my experience with my own children and from what the parents of their peers have told me the professors at community colleges are extraordinarily caring and passionate about the field of teaching and really willing to help the students. This is not always the case at a four year university where there can be upwards of 450 students in a very large lecture hall. The younger two marzipans took college classes in high school over their summers and it was such an amazing experience for them and a rewarding introduction to college classes.
I hope that things work out for you and that your joy returns.
The squeeze is real. The elementary school where I teach music has animosity between the teaching staff and administration. It’s always about the “extra” work that keeps piling on. It’s sad. Hang in there, Lisa D!
tiffanie, same here; we often feel like we’re weirdly under siege. 🙂
However, we are paid well – not the case with many of you folks in the elementary school system, which is tragic, because you do SO MUCH WORK, and such critical work at that.
Thanks for the empathy and good wishes, everybody! You know I’m going to face it all with my perfume bottles at the ready.
I like your description of Gold Knight!
And don’t get me started on suddenly finding yourself acquiring more work. We do not have enough business analysts…so project managers end up doing a chunk of the analysis. And in the name of “self-service”, admin work got pushed out.
Ugh! I know exactly what you are referring to; like you, there are most people on my work team in the same boat. We’ve had people quit due to the volume of work coupled with having to become more technically saavy; the extra work then gets split out to a few and their already maxxed out workload is added to; almost like we are set up to fail! There is no more capacity!
Perfume is one of our best defences! Keep on smelling fabulous.
Lots of us have the same problem at work and most of us are overworked and underpaid. But that’s what happens when we work for other people’s benefit…they make the money and don’t have to work as hard as we do.
very true across many industries I think – i have seen the exact process you describe repeatedly in insurance. I watched Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times over the weekend, might be good to catch for some laughs and commiseration, hang in there 🙂
Mr L is traveling this weekend so I am holding down the fort solo.
I am making madeleines tomorrow for some guest that are coming over..one of my favorite baked dishes to make besides scones.
I went over to the coffee culture website last week and ordered some espresso for my new machine and it is going well, and I like the taste.
I am in Balenciaga L’Essence today and reading the WSJ and hoping the little ones will take a nap soon…this mom is exhausted.
Well, espresso and madeleines and napping babies are a home run all the way around. I hope you can get a nap in, too.
Espresso and madeleines – oh, how lovely.
Fingers crossed for that nap!
It’s not happening! Poor me!
Boo hoo. Good luck getting through the rest of the day — I so remember those days!
Oh I LOVE!!!!!!! Madeleines!!The perfect little delicacy with a nice cup of rooibos tea!
Enjoy!❤️✌????????
I feel sheepish admitting it, but I have never had a madeleine. Seems remiss of me.
Espresso sounds good right now….not enough java this morning and I am dragging.
Passes you a cup
madeleines! my most favorite treat. You and your kitchen smell marvelous today.
My kids love making homemade Madelines with me. I was surprised how easy they ar ego make
When I started this travel gig, my first contract was in Jacksonville N.C. I camped out on Okracoke and in the Croatan National Forest along the Neuse River. My first night there was frigid, I had no fire wood, and was thinking I had made a terrible mistake. The next day, a couple that were camped next to me offered me firewood, which I declined because I didn’t want them to run short. Then they invited myself and T-Rex over to their campspot, treated T-Rex like a Queen, fed me anything and everything, and introduced me to Not Your Fathers Root Beer. They were locals who camped there frequently. Wonderful people and when Florence popped up, they are who I first thought of. I hope they are safe and their home was spared. They were a retired couple living in a fixed income, and so generous with everything they had.
SOTD is SL Chergui because I felt a cool breeze this morning. Also, I may have purchased something (or more than one something) with the 20% off Twisted Lily coupon last night. At 4am. Because I couldn’t sleep. Seems reason enough for me…????
Hope everyone has a great weekend, and all in juggernaut Flo’s path are safe and warm. ❤️
Haha. Perfume blackout shopping again?
Nope, I was wide awake and remember every bit of it ????
Oh, now I also am worried about them! Hope they are camping in another state right now.
Me too!
I had to stop browsing Fragrancenet after the lights go out. Too many thrifty bottles bought still adds up!
Usually, I kind of do a window shopping type thing: I see all the things I want at good prices, put each bottle in my cart, and then I realize I have upwards of 5 or 10 bottles rattling around in my virtual cart, become so disgusted with myself, I end up closing out the page. Money saved ????
I do that too. Amazing how much money one can avoid spending by closing a web page!
Love Chergui. It’s a comfort scent to me.You do smell wonderful Deva!✌????❤️
Thank you! It’s a good ‘un!
“The Kindness of Strangers” could be the title of your book, Deva. Wait…did I just make that up that you’ll be writing a book about your eperience? Do you see how rumors start?
Or great ideas….
Yes.Deva could retire early,we’ll all buy her scented travelog/memoir!!✌????????
Ha, so funny because I was just thinking about a work situation on the unit I’m currently on, and it’s not kind thoughts! If I wrote a book about it, it would scathing, scandalous, and decidedly critical. If I could write simply about tooling around in a campever and smelling good, that would be a best seller. ????
yes it would…and I would buy it 🙂
Ooh..and a guess…Eau de Crypt?
Hi all! I hope everyone is staying safe in these trying weather patterns.
I’m in original formula Yohji Essential, for which Kevin reviewed the reissue. The original formula starts a bit herbal, and smells like a wildflower bouquet (I smell a very clean jasmine and chamomile). There is a touch of fruitiness, somehow connecting the apple-ness of chamomile to a vague berry smell. Very clean though and very 90’s. I’m a big fan.
Wonder if those reissues sold? I sure never see them mentioned here.
I hope so but I don’t see them at Selfridges.
Nice picture, Robin!
Still commando, but I will spray on some DK Gold before going out to run errands.
The sun is finally out after so many days of cloudy skies and it is pleasant and beautiful outside.
SOTE will be a blend of rose and sandalwood oils that a dear friend makes and sent me along with other oil blends that smell heavenly! They are beautifully amazing and relaxing!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Glad you’re getting some sunshine finally! That photo is the bomb! The Okracoke lighthouse is so simple and understated, and all the more beautiful for it. ????????
Beautiful lighthouse indeed! I am going to check online for more info later when I get home.
Love DK Gold, you will smell lovely!
Happy Weekend M!
I read your touching email twice already,I shall respond ASAP!
Love and Hugs!!
❤️????????????
Thank you J! You too have a great and relaxing weekend! ????????❤
Oh I love Gold! I’ll never stop being surprised that it didn’t do well.
Gold is beautiful and so underrated! I enjoy it greatly!
Enjoy this glorious weather, your beautiful perfume and your relaxing oils tonight. I am thrilled that you are finding beauty in essential oils..they are such a gift from nature 🙂
Those oil blends are fantastic! I understand now why you love to make wear and use them. They can easily become another addition. In my case I do not find them only beautiful, but very relaxing and comforting, something that I really need these days!
If they are relaxing and comforting to you then they are doing their job, my friend 🙂 And yes, they can be addictive as well….don’t go down that rabbit hole-LOL!
Isn’t it beautiful out today? Hope you enjoy it! Your oil sounds beautiful.
Gorgeous day outside and even though is warm, it feels different. A sign of autumn for sure!
Enjoy your weekend ????
You too! ????
Put down my seriously depressing book, which will go unnamed as it no doubt tips into the political arena correctly forbidden in this forum, to check in at NST. It is a gorgeous morning here. I have all the doors open to the back deck, and our big beautiful dumb kitty is washing himself on my bed, periodically opening one eye to watch the wild turkey just outside the door. No perfume on yet… maybe it is a Shangri La day? Husband and son #2 are away at a camp for kids who have had a similar illness as my son. It is a bit of a slog for my husband, but my son loves it. So it is quiet, sunny, and peaceful at home. Lots to be grateful for indeed.
Here’ s a question. Anyone have a perfume you love wearing, even crave, except whenever you first apply it, in that moment you are mildly surprised that it doesn’t smell very good…. yet you continue to crave it and cannot imagine swapping it away? I have this funny vexed relationship with several of my perfumes.
ylang49, when I first apply it it’s too much. I only have a decant but I adore it
No5, for the same reasons…
Oh I love that one—But every once in a while it’s opening reminds me of vitamins.
Here’s my question: won’t the turkey possibly decide to come inside?
Yes. Well, most of the turkeys that wander up to our back doors are chickens (sorry turkeys, that is the cold truth). But there is one, sort of looks like s/he’s been in a few battles, that really wants in. Stamping our feet and banging pans (needless to say, both cats are scared of this one) doesn’t do much. When this fierce fowl visits, I pull the curtains across the doors, or close the doors altogether. One afternoon s/he spent hours flapping at the windows and leaving golf ball sized deposits on the deck. I thought it was hilarious, but no one else did.
Can’t remember how to link my instagram account (I use it so rarely!) but here’s a pic o two. https://www.instagram.com/nerolimyrrh/?hl=en
I know I’m supposed to be looking at the turkey (you’re right, FUGLY), but the gray tabby is beautiful and looks like s/he is wearing a white fur collar!
He is pretty, and he is super sweet. But he’s all beauty and no brains.
Haha, I was just the same and zeroed in on the beautiful cat!
Saw the turkey but zoomed in on your beautiful jugs filled with roses!Beautiful display idea!!❤️❤️????
So, I did a double take on your msg. “Jugs” has another meaning in the US. It is a WWII slang term for, well, you can figure it out. Let’s just say your zooming in on my beautiful jugs gave me pause!
Aren’t those roses stunning. I’ve always been a pale rose person, but had a yen for hot pink. The shop made an error and sold me 4 dozen instead of 2 dozen, so I had hot pink roses galore. I am now all about hot pink roses!!
It’s not mething I crave at all, but I did mention Poudre de Riz, which I wore the other day. I really dislike the opening. But then quite love it.
Agree on the table flowers/pitchers. And the tile in the table…. lovely.
Someone gave me a decant of that one. I know exactly what you mean.
Oh, it is so small! The ones near us are just huge. I’d be afraid to have my doors open at all.
Kitty is gorgeous and so is garden!
Small! Well. Hurrumph! That pic was one I took a month or so ago–the turkeys wandering on our deck are a bit bigger now. Their wattles are growing in red.
I know, about our kitty. He IS gorgeous (she says without a hint of modesty)!
Ha, sorry, I did not mean to insult your wild turkey! Size doesn’t matter!
Hah! ????
LOL. Robin, my father (who lives here in Oregon) leaves a door open at all times, year-round so the kitties can come and go as they please. As a result, (aided no doubt by the catfood he leaves out for strays) he ALSO gets a family of opossums who sometimes come and go. And then there’s the raccoon whose a regular visitor. And the skunks. . . Yeah. Can I excuse him to better society on the grounds that he’s an old hippie? ????
That is sweet! So long as it is not my house!!
Us too. Although mostly squirrels going after the cat food. Also dogs. We have strict leash laws that are totally ignored by some of our neighbors. Countless dogs have wandered in to take a look or hang out while their frantic owners are shouting for them.
Yes,The Different Company Rose Poivree comes to mind first, mainly because I was sold on the idea that it was supposedly a less intense version of ELdO’s Rossy de Palma.Turns out I love the intensity of Rossy more.
Iris Silver Mist:this is truly dependant on the weather, for me anyway. On sunny days I find it harsh and overwhelming, cloudy rainy days it is perfection.
Sshh don’t tell anyone, but Cuir de Russie Chanel EDT is that perfume for me. Mitsouko extrait too. LOLOLOL ????????????????????????
I can see that happening with Mitsouko. To me M is more like a wine that needs to open up… It can be tight and squeaky for first 1-10 mins, and then it is astoundingly beautiful.
YES! I love Mitsouko, but it wears me the first while and then we find harmony together.
Now that you mention it, I think that’s true of a good number of perfumes, although of course I can’t remember which ones just now.
One that I sampled recently is Ormonde Jayne Black Gold. It has a note up top that I actively dislike. After that disappears, I’m fine with it. Although TBH I don’t notice all those special, expensive natural and supernatural notes they advertise, but rather a deep carpet of Iso E Super, the delicious, addictive junk food of modern perfumery.
Far more frustrating to me are perfumes that have great top notes that soon depart leaving an entirely commonplace heart and base. There are also some very good perfumes that have even better top notes. I’m left feeling resentful, even though I really like the rest of the perfume. L’AP Nuit de Tubereuse is one example. The nose is a cruel mistress!
I know what you mean about Nuit de Tubereuse. For me it is mostly my not so fancy frags–Weekend in Normandy, Mac’s Lady Danger, even the perennial favorite Encre Noir… and many others. Cruel mistress or method to his madness?
L’Artisan Poivre Piquant. Every time I wear it, I tell myself, “Okay, remember next time that this doesn’t work for you,” and yet, I keep it, and periodically wear it.
It’s my birthday today and no scented gifts but a little bit of money towards something scented and a new pair of shoes. I am drenched in vintage Bal today and going to the Hofbrauhaus for dinner tonight.
Happy birthday
Happy Birthdayto you, Dawn!

I’m in La Pausa, edt. Thx, Beverly. Love it. Does anyone love the new edp??
You smell fantastic! My favorite iris!
My favorite (relatively) feminine vetiver! (Tip of the hat to Bear, who pointed out that La Pausa is a vetiver, too.)
I think the EdP smells quite different; you definitely need to sample before you buy if you love the EdT.
Thank you nozknoz! ????????????????????✌
☕☕☕????????????☕☕☕
Datura Noir Serge Lutens
Tuberose Coconut Soap ????????
Pleasant. ????
Smelled Joy by Dior and it is Allure Chanel EDT, with mandarin orange segments in heavy syrup added. And some extra sugar. And white musk.
It is for the person who never heard of Patou, nor Allure, and doesn’t know why there are containers of coffee beans scattered around the perfume section of Ulta. (There was a 20something lovey-dovey couple whispering to each other, trying to understand.) I didn’t have the energy to explain. LOLOLOL ????
And if I focus on the notes, I can smell the broom/hay aroma of Dune in JbD.
Trying to sell products, not impress perfume lovers.
????????????✌????
When are you breaking out MKK??Hehe!
Happy Weekend ????!
❤️✌????
Oh Bear, how will our youth ever learn if we don’t teach them!! And who better than you….
???? I felt guilty not explaining but they were all intertwined and holding hands, and I felt like I would be intruding. Now if they had asked me….. YES! ????✌????????
I’d love to go shopping with you!
Quite the compliment, Gail! ????????????
They will never grow broke adding extra sugar, LOL!
I want your soap 😉
Hi Bear, I tried Ambre Sultan. I liked it alot, which surprised me, because I can sometimes get bad headaches with amber, and I was afraid of this one. Anyway, on me, I got creamy, and powdery. I liked it enough to look up the price, lol. I will let you know if there is an enabler pin for you ???? also agree with your DJoy comment, I have to try it again though to see if I get the Dune smell.
???? Excellent lillyjo! Yes the labdanum is creamy, and the benzoin powdery, two aspects that I love.
Thanks for sharing!
????????????????????????
I love it too…I’m interested if you wanted to do a split, mentioning this jik
Oh, my, I love most any datura scent, including that one!
???? Thanks for the ???? Everyone! ????????????✌
Bear, I think I need someone like you to be my emoji sherpa. I am a hopeless luddite (still no cell phone), and I *just* discovered how to access the emoji keyboard on my iPad. I can’t figure out how to use it and be clever. I feel like I might as well just type my feelings.
colon end parenthesis
Love the phrase “emoji sherpa”!
21:01pm in South Africa.Everything went superquiet after the celebrations of winning a rugby match against Nieu Zealand!(it’s a HUGE thing, and a bitter centuries-old rivalry between the two countries,in both rugby and cricket, but all in good fun still.Lol!)
SOTD is something I raved about endlessly years ago,and still have a 30ml bottle of:Gosh Nothing More.I love the rose-gold twist-up bottle!Perfect soft, spicy rose for a beautiful Spring day in Africa. The nights are still a bit chilly, but Spring is here, finally!
Thank you to all for the well wishes yesterday, when I was not feeling well!
No call-outs so far either,so yay for that!
Hope everyone and their loved ones are safe and warm, and out of that storms’ path!
Happy Weekend Friends!
XOX
???? Gosh Nothing More is a great name. MKK tomorrow, I love it but the costus root is challenging in humidity. LOLOLOL ????????
MKK will blend right in with Eagles football and a nice hearty Stout !! ????????????????????????????
Nice!Enjoy your football and stout!(MKK is perfect for such manly activities!Hehe!)
???? Thanks Johano! Enjoy your weekend too! ????????✌????????
As a New Zealander, although not a rugby fan, I can appreciate the excitement!!
Haha!Yes then I am sure you know what I am talking about Gaynor! The fact it happened in Wellington makes it even more exciting for the Springboks!Haha!
I live in Wellington and hadn’t realised the game was even on till I read your comment!!
Haha!I bet it was SILENT in Wellington after the game!????????
Hope you are feeling better today
I am,much better,Thanks CM8!
Happy Weekend!✌????❤️????
Same to you my dear!!!!
Late, but so sorry you weren’t feeling well, Johanob. So glad you’re better and treat yourself kindly in the next few days.
Hey peeps…do check out the swapmeet as I posted swaps for a donation to either mental health advocacy or Hurricane Florence relief. My entry is towards the bottom.
https://nstperfume.com/2018/09/08/the-swapmeet-episode-13/
SOTD = commando but will put something on in a little bit
I worked for most of the morning but I’m done for today!
So, if you have not heard, a guy was found SHAVING on a NJ Transit Train. Had I seen this myself, it would have been high up in an all time Commuting Woe. I read that he flicked some of the shaving cream on the floor – how disgusting is that?!!
In this episode of what did the DOG do —
– dog park with 3 dogs and twice as many humans. The large dog kept chasing the medium sized dog wanting to sniff its butt. The medium sized dog kept yelping and then leaping up on a bench where his owner sat, after which, the owner dumped him back on the ground and then the chasing and butt sniffing cycle started all over again.
– Dog training human to fetch (loosely). I’m totally serious. So normally, the human would toss a stick or a ball and the dog would run after it and bring it back to the human. Yesterday, I saw a dog take a red ball in his mouth and dropped it about 10 yards under a tree and then went back to his human and they walked together towards the ball.
Oh my goodness, that is something I am glad to not have witnessed.I cannot believe people would actually do personal grooming on a public train! What the what…
Really, what the what? People just don’t care!
I just saw the youtube clip, but even more disturbing…in my search for it,youtube suggested “man yanks out pubic hair and sprinkles it on lady passenger in train”….NOW I have truly seen it all….WTAF.????????♂️????????♂️
OMG, truly disgusting!
Saw a pic of that guy, mid-shave, on google news. Hard to fathom.
And he supposedly rewarded himself with a beer which he must have brought with him because there is no bar car anywhere on NJ Transit (someone can prove me wrong but even if there were one, there is no way to get to it because the trains are stupid crowded).
Re: Wen, I received a class-action lawsuit reimbursement from QVC/Wen in January.
Wen didn’t damage my hair but it didn’t cleanse it either.
I had an 18 inch ponytail at the time, and I was supposed to pump out 48, YES 48 squirts, for my length hair. I stopped at 31. YMMV ????????????
And yes, my hair is 1.5 inches now, and the ponytail was donated to Locks of Love. ????????✌????
That was what I didn’t get – the instructions called for almost half a cup of conditioner (no shampoo) and I rinsed as much as I could but I think it was formulated to almost be waterproof, not in a sticky waterproof mascara way but resistant to a complete rinse out. Anyway, I’m glad it did not damage your hair and you got reimbursed.
Good on you for donating to Locks of Love. I used to have long hair (down to mid-back) but that was when I was 8 ???? and got help with cleaning and drying my very thick hair. My hair still grows fast and I try to keep it short!
Thanks hajusuuri! ????
Yes, I rinsed for an extra 5 minutes per instructions, and it still felt like there was too much residue.
But it works for someone, QVC is constantly hawking it. ????????✌
“works for someone”… could that someone be Chaz “Chacching” Dean? ????
I never used the recommended amount. That was just plain silly. I did find that it cleaned my hair well and I could go longer between washes. I ignored the lawsuit. Great idea to donate!
A friend of min tried Wen and didn’t like it either. Said her hair didn’t feel clean. My hairdresser gave it a thumbs down as well.
Shaving on NJ Transit!! Yikes, as if that commute is not bad enough.
Makes face on someone else’s armpit sound good
I now carry White Flower Oil which I whip out when I can. I need to find a way to just wear it around my neck because it is hard to uncap it with one hand holding on for dear life.
https://www.organicfacts.net/white-flower-oil.html
Okay…I don’t mean to add to the grossness of public transit stories, but I can’t resist. The shaving thing is beyond ridiculous…it’s really quite crazy. Do people do these things hoping to have their stories go viral?
My local rag in Nor Cal published photos and a story from a local woman whose family rode BART into SF recently on a weekend. A person on the train urinated. The liquid spread all over the floor and was on the seat. They changed cars more than once to try and find peace and cleanliness….
OMG…looks like there’s a hierarchy of worst commuting experiences way above and beyond delays. I’ll take a delay and smelly commutes over bodily fluids.
This does not surprise me at all. When I live downtown St Pete in the 90’s, anytime there was an event, our manager would lock the elevator on the second floor otherwise some people would use it as a toilet. So disgusting!
Haha. Do you often take BART? I’ve seen/smelled plenty of awful things on it (counting urine in this category), but a coworker of mine takes the cake. He has to take two different BARTs from his home in Berkeley down to our workplace in Fremont. On the first train he took one day, he found his seat neighbor shooting up (heroin? some kind of drug). On the second train that same day, he stepped into a particularly stinky car. A few minutes later, a BART officer walked through, looked around for a while, then recoiled and said into his phone, “Yep, I found it–it’s a massive #2.” So. Everyone had to evacuate that car at the next station.
What I’m saying is, urine seems relatively benign ever since he told me that story 🙂
I commuted on BART for 7 years. Although it was dirty, I didn’t witness too many really bad issues. A friend recently had the same experience with someone shooting up. He left behind his needles and everything.
Yeesh. I’m so pleased I don’t need to take BART every day.
You know ,Hajusuuri, every day I go over what is wrong with people in my head. Somewhere along the line, it has become inappropriate to be appropriate in public. It’s just mind boggling to me.
You’ve hit the nail on the head but it is just not logical!
eeeeew! to the transit sotry. I saw a posted video of a woman shaving her legs in a hotel pool over the summer, makes you want to stay inside your house forever!
Hi everyone! This morning I sent out eight swap packages. My post office employees are so nice, but were a bit confounded – they ran out of those “can’t go in an airplane” stickers and the whole line stopped while everyone looked for more, so I owe the postal customers behind me an apology. However, those of you I swapped with can rest assured that your packages will arrive appropriately stickered, I guess.
Now I shall lean back and wait for the return packages to roll in… this is going to be an exciting and good-smelling month!
Today I’m wearing Eau du Sud (it’s hot again!) as I do some freelance work. I started 3 hours ago but only worked for about 15 minutes before I slid into the most delicious nap. When I finish I’m going to work on my latest Sporcle quiz for you all – this one will be diabolically difficult, mwahaha.
Oh dear – I’m a swap newbie and sent out packages without that sticker! What happens to packages without it? Is the sticker necessary because it’s perfume?
I think you’ll be fine! You don’t put the sticker on yourself, the post office does it for you if you say “yes” when they ask you that question about whether the package contains perfume. Honestly I don’t think I had even seen one before I moved here, so maybe it is just a foible of my local PO. And I think some people even straight-up lie when they ask that question and I’ve never heard of anyone getting in trouble.
Oh okay! I wasn’t asked about what the package contains but next I send I will ask for the sticker and see if they have it!
If you are sending perfume, you are supposed to send ground. I think most people lie and send airmail.
Good to know
I have seen the sticker on at least one package that I received. Haven’t tested whether my local post office has it.
Yeah, the week after swapmeet week is the best 🙂 SO MANY PRESENTS IN THE MAIL!
Oh Happy Weekend, my fellow NSTer’s So much to do and no energy to do it. Wearing some straight up Jasmine from a vintage l’Occitaine bottle. I was so excited when I found this on evilbay…my first bottle (long gone, completely used up!) was purchased on my first trip to Paris a million years ago. In addition to memories, it still smells great to me.
So nice you found more then!
I continued with my testing of the Sylvaine Delacourte vanilla set. Vahina was a scrubber – just sickly floral to me. Vanori smelled like sun tan lotion – not bad. The whole line actually has a body lotion undertone which I like. My favorite is the Virgile – the vanilla and cedar combo works here! I decided to order the Musk discovery set as well despite the withering one-line dismissals it got in The Guide.
I have both the vanilla and the musk sampler set and I feel like all 10 scents share a common base, or DNA. None were scrubbers for me, but none of them really spoke to me either. At $4 for 5 samples though, definitely worth a try!
Post lawn mowing shower and I sprayed on Lalique Noire Premier Elegance Animale
and I have been sampling ocean perfumes all week…Aqua Motu, Aqua di Sali , Un Air de Bretagne and Secretions Magnifique (the last two my favorites and full bottle contenders).
Robin, have we ever done an Ocean or Beach or Sea inspired fragrances community project????
We did an aquatic one in July…
https://nstperfume.com/2018/07/13/friday-scent-of-the-day-7-13/
Ah yes! middle age brain forgets sometimes 😉
Tell me about it.
I think you are the only person I’ve ever seen on here who likes Secretions Magnifique!
What can I say? I have weird skin….it devours most scents but amps up the sweetness. I think the fact that I did not know what it was made me evaluate it more objectively. Plus, when I shoved my tiny wrist up MR. Marzipan’s nose and said “smell this” he responded “that’s nice…pretty innocuous”….so I know it isn’t just me that smells this as pleasant. It reminds me of all the beaches of my youth…Sunken Meadow, Rockaway, Jones….the smell of the Atlantic Ocean.
You smell great!
Thank you….I love this one.
I can still smell the last traces of last night’s Salome, it’s potent, even with a tiny spray. I tried three hefty sprays once, and nearly suffocated. I might apply a little more so that I can strip wallpaper fragrantly.
I’m contemplating a significant purchase today, Frederic Malle’s Noir Épices. I was amazed to find the line locally, and I want to encourage that, and I finally got the pay rise that I’d been after for two years. Very frustrating, but sometimes politeness and perseverance pay off 🙂
Malle scents are high quality, you deserve Noir Epices, Gaynor ! ????????????????
Congrats on the pay raise! A very good reason to treat yourself to a nice bottle from Mr Malle and Company ????
Congratulations! Celebrate!
Let us know if you pull the trigger
Congrats on the raise!
Good for you!
Congrats! Get something beautiful. You deserve it!
Congratulations! A shame it took so long, but better late than never! Enjoy your treat, you’ve earned it.
Congratulations! Enjoy that celebratory bottle.
Big congrats on your pay raise! A celebratory scent sounds like a great idea.
Wearing SL Bas de Soie after making a decant of it for the swapmeet 🙂
Speaking of swapping: What’s the best way to clean funnels and vials for decanting? Is there any way to really get the smell of the previous perfume out of them?
I can usually manage to clear the scent residue from funnels by soaking them in a bowl of warm water for about a week (I dump the water and add new hot water about daily), but I’ve never been able to clear a vial. Have thought about boiling them, but haven’t actually tried that.
Meant to add that I don’t think there’s any way to get the scent out of the plastic sprayers for small vials, if that’s what you have – there’s just too many nooks and crannies that are inaccessible in those.
I think most people do not clean vials, and most people would rather not get a fragrance in a used vial.
If you’re decanting, you should use stainless, which cleans easily. I would not decant with a plastic funnel.
https://nstperfume.com/2007/03/29/perfumista-tip-how-to-decant-perfume/
Re: Plastic funnel – what if you have a separate funnel for each perfume or discard after each use – still not recommended?
Gosh, I don’t know. I guess no harm, right?
In general I think I’d rather use a straw if I don’t have a stainless funnel, or the funnel doesn’t fit.
I have found funnels problematic — never the right size, top-heavy and tippy, worrisome to clean, etc. Disposable pipettes or cocktail straws (used like pipettes) are much easier to use. The disposable pipettes come in different sizes.
Please don’t reuse anything! My worst and most bitterly disappointing ebay experience ever was buying a very old stoppered bottle of Guerlain Vetiver that the seller unilaterally decided to decant into an empty Caron Bain de Champagne (Bain de Caron) bottle. OF COURSE it has that strong melon note of BdC! It’s not worth taking a chance.
Wearing L’air du desert Marocain, and got a nice compliment while out shopping for new glasses. Found out that I’m starting to develop cataracts, but on the plus side, my prescription actually got better.
Yikes about the cataracts! Kudos on the perfume compliment!
Unfortunately we all will get them, eventually!Part of aging!I hope my favorite ophthalmologist is still around when mine needs to come out one day!!Lol
That’s exactly what my doctor said. She also said that when I eventually need surgery, many, many years in the future, it will actually improve my prescription. She called it lasik for seniors!
Haha!Yes cataract surgery has mostly positive results, and it is lifechanging for our patients who thought they were “blind”.The big negative is it slightly alters your depth perception, and you have to choose between either seeing very well far,or very well up close when you discuss your new lens with the doctor. We’ve done multifocal inplants, but most of those patients ended up coming back asking for a replacement lens for either result.
LADDM is compliment worthy. You smell(ed) great!
Finally, blue sky and sun today! It’s too bad I was indoors for most of it ???? I’m playing with a ukulele group tomorrow at a peace vigil in Central Park so spent most of the day practicing with them. It’s fun, but boy, is my attention span shrinking. I was spent after the 1st hour and getting antsy as we approached 3 hours. Should be fun tomorrow though!
SOTD is Aldehyde 44
Good luck in the park
Have a great day tomorrow at Central Park! It will be another beautiful day!
It was so beautiful today!
Have a great time!
Have fun!
How did your day in the park go with your fellow ukulele players?
We had a blast and the weather was pretty perfect for a park day. Thanks for asking, Jalapeno ????
Early morning gathering so I was innocuous in Kenzo Amour. We lost energy today, so I’ve been reading and knitting and sort of watching football. (Actually, my husband is flipping channels to watch a variety of games….he’s draped in cats…)
That actually sounds really relaxing and perfect for Kenzo Amour. I’m sorry about the power though
Hmm re-reading your comment I think “energy” doesn’t refer to electric power actually – so yay for a chill day
LOL. No power outage. Should have said lost motivation….
Lol at draped in cats! I used to have 2 lovely kitties. They were great snugglers.
My husband is not happy about that Badger loss. I had to quit watching and went to the mall instead.????
Yeah, that was a surprise. Try being with my husband. Northwestern. That was ugly. And he spent part of the day texting with USC friends who are beside themselves.
So, no Red Zone in your home? I call it Mr. Spicebomb’s “ADD football show”–they do the switching between “exciting” moments of live games. I can’t stand it. Football is already obnoxious and boring (sorry not sorry!), but when I can’t even follow what’s going on, it’s too too much.
We don’t, thankfully. My USC friend has it. That would drive me nuts.
Record high of 97 today. Make.It.Stop. Wearing PdN Eau Exotique, drinking iced tea, and cursing the day I left the Pacific NW.
Omg! So sorry! I DO NOT miss those crazy temperatures AT ALL! I hope you catch a cool breeze soon????
Wow! You did smell fantastic though.
Hi everyone, super tired from work tonight. Sotd was Alien eau Sublime. This is probably the last time I will wear it for awhile. The weather is supposed to go down hill this coming week. I got nothing else… Hope everyone is safe and sound.
I hope you had a great night’s sleep and today will be a good day for you, lillyjo! Every time I see mention of Alien anything I think of you..or anything Mugler for that matter :0
Thanks cm8, I actually did sleep in! You know, Alien was the perfume that brought me back after life took me away from perfume. It makes me happy to be associated with it. ????
Hope you have a more relaxed Sunday. Take care!
Thanks, working tonight, but day off tomorrow!
I also associate you with Alien and its offspring. I hope your day at work is a good one! ????
We also had a gorgeous day, quite warm, in Michigan today. I took my mom around: we went to the local farmers market and bought beautiful heirloom tomatoes, okra, sweet corn, and home-made cinnamon rolls and molasses cookies. Mmmm! We went to a thrift store and I bought her a nice cardigan in a beautiful periwinkle color for the massive sum of $2. Tonight we went out for dinner with my brother and I was ecstatic because I got to have my favorite fish, walleye, and it was delicious! Dealing with Mom’s Alzheimer’s is really exhausting. I’m glad she can still enjoy these excursions. And did I say that I brought up a cat to live with her? It too was a bit stressful, but has gone so well and she was thrilled, and she seems happy. She was napping in her recliner chair today with him on her lap, and it was so sweet. I wore Oud Satin Mood today, but tonight am in Indult Manakars—decadent and indulgent.
Should be Manakara.
And here’s Mom with the cat, Armani. You can see he’s already made himself at home!
https://flic.kr/p/2aZL7xe
That’s so lovely.
Thank you for sharing; what a great cat!
Lovely, Calypso!
I’m glad you had such a lovely day.
I’m so glad you got to Michigan for a visit! I remember you mentioning that over the summer. If your weather is anything like what we’re having, you picked a great time!
Walleye is my family’s favorite fish dinner too! Enjoy the rest of your visit with your mom.
Sending you sympathetic hugs for a good, but exhausting day!
This is a beautiful post all the way around! ????
I teared up a little reading your post Calypso from all the feels. ????
Same here.
I hope the cat brings lots of comfort to your mom.
Hello! Would it be possible to request a post/article on a specific topic? I have adored Annick Goutal forever – but it is soo hard to find certain scents now that a lot have been discont’d over the years…does anyone here have any idea? beauty supplies are probably a good place to look… you can find bottles on ebay of course. Des Lys, Le Jasmin, hm…well I haven’t been able to find them self. Mon Parfum Par Cheri is also discont’d but there are a few bottles on ebay. Clearly the line is going through a transformation – the bottles/packaging have totally changed too…but there are so many wonderful perfumes worth looking over from the line still, of what remains of it. Plus, they recently came out with Chat Perché – for people 3 & up – I didn’t see a review of that one on here 🙂 Would love anyone’s thoughts on the new Eau de Ciel too – if it’s worth it… I find the line so romantic and saw on Alanis Morisette’s site that Des Lys is one of her favs… https://alanis.com/news/top-10-favorite-perfumes/ She writes very nicely of course. my beloved late (and coincidentally French) father used to buy perfume for my mother from AG in Paris & I grew up smelling Eau de Lavande, Eau de Camille & of course Petite Cherie – which I loved to wear as a young girl. sad they’re rumored to be cutting it down from 45 to 25 fragrances…it is interesting seeing how the line is changing…I wonder if there is backstock of the discontd perfumes you can order directly from them in Paris? Would love to know if anyone has any info about this 🙂
Where do you live?
Annick Goutal just went through a rebranding. It is now Goutal Paris, Conteur de Parfums.
Angie has written some general articles about shopping for discontinued scents. In the particularly case of AG, you need to be careful, some of them did not have long shelf lives (Petite Cherie in particular) and so I’d be hesitant to buy an old bottle on eBay.
They are definitely trimming the line.
I also LOVE AG. I find the fragrances so easy to wear. If you can find someone to courier for you from the UK, Notino has a big selection and fairly well priced. Notino doesn’t ship overseas though. Sad face.
Don’t Notino and Beauty Encounter in the US have common ownership? I thought I read that somewhere. BE has quite a few AGs in the fluted bottles, though I don’t know whether any are to be discontinued.
It’s s a super grey and dreary day here – Florence has arrived, and she brought a bunch of rain with her. However, there is no wind. We’ve been extremely lucky. Yesterday I wore Munchen by Frau Tonis Perfumes, read two books and got stir crazy. Today I’m hoping the rain will let off in the afternoon so I can go for a nice long walk.
The one nice thing is that it cooled down enough to try heavier fragrances. I’m trying Bibliotheque from Byredo. The fruit at the opening was almost too much, but it’s now mellowing into something really lovely.
Have a lovely Sunday.
And what it’s mellowing into smells an awful lot like Bottega Veneta.
Glad to hear from you sistine!
Yay for extremely lucky!!
I received an unexpected gift this weekend: my husband’s boss’ wife, who found out that I love fragrance, found these unusual little bottles of Roger & Gallet “dry perfume” in a vintage store and bought them for me! (Yes, she’s a really nice person). One is labelled Dogwood, the other Sandalwood, and I’ve found both listed on a chronological listing of R&G perfumes. The contents look like white powder. I haven’t opened them yet. Apparently this is a format R&G sold for a while, as I also found Blue Carnation, one of its more famous scents, mentioned as having been issued as “dry perfume.” Does anyone know any more about these?
How quaint! Report back if you find out more about them
What an interesting discovery! Best of luck in finding more info about them.
What fun!! I know nothing about dry perfume at all.
Eat an Apple Day is something I can definitely get behind. I have one every morning with almond butter alongside my sausage and eggs. My favorite are Honeycrisp, which are just starting to come into season locally. Whole Foods carries them year round though so I have gotten spoiled with being able to find them. They used to be just a fall treat.
SotD yesterday was LAP Histoire D’Orangers from a sample. A lovely orange blossom which worked better with my skin and nose than Seville did.
Today I’m thinking JM Lime Basil and Mandarin. We are having the most beautiful, summer like weather.
Thank you Robin for hosting the swapmeet. This was my first time participating and I am looking forward to trying several new scents in the next couple of weeks.????
I bought Honeycrisp apples at a local orchard yesterday. So good this time of year.
Hey madtowngirl, I did see your post for late Friday. I don’t seem to have your email address anymore. I have had a few weird things happen with email lately. Could you email me at my screen name at overlordgaming dawt com?
Glad the swapmeet was fun!
It’s been another awful week in the painful, difficult year that has been 2018. Two months after I lost my beloved female Papillon Dot, we discovered a tumor on the neck of my sweet male Papillon Rikki. The cancer was very aggressive and we had to have him put to sleep Friday. I am heartbroken and devastated. My house is so empty and quiet. No interest in perfume or anything else right now.
Oh, I’m so sorry for your loss. What a terrible year for you. Sending hugs. I hope Dot and Rikki are together.
So sorry for your loss cazaubon. Sending perfumed hugs and hoping you find solace that your furry children are together.
So sorry for the loss of your furry companions Cazaubon!Sending perfumed hugs!????????❤️❤️????
I’m sorry. Those are hard losses.
So sorry for your loss
I’m so sorry Cazaubon. Really just so sorry, hugs to you.
Oh, no! It’s so awful when we see our beloved pets suffering. You did the right thing, but it doesn’t make it any better to know that. And to lose them so close together. Those Papillons are just beautiful little dogs. I’m so very sorry.
Dear cazaubon, I’m so sorry for your loss. I know that nothing anyone can say or do will make it easier for you now but we just want to let you know that we understand your pain and sympathize a lot. (Hugs)
I am so very sorry for your loss and grief. A great big hug to you. Please take good care of yourself.
I am so sorry Cazaubon. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs and love to you.
Peace to you, cazaubon. So sorry for your losses and double hugs to you during this difficult time.
very sorry, cazaubon.
we lost a beloved small family member last year, my son was devastated and is just getting over it now. take your time, healing will come.
Oh no! I’m terribly sorry! I wish I could help in some some small way, but I know losing a beloved pet is just horrendous. ????
I’m so very sorry. Even though it doesn’t feel like it, you did the most humane thing possible. It’s so difficult to be strong for our beloved companions. Sending you hugs.
Big hugs to you, Cazaubon. I am very sorry for your lost.
I’m so sorry
Oh, cazaubon, I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Papillons. It hurts like hell when we have to say goodbye to our furry family members. Hugs and my sympathies.
I’m so sorry. That is a very hard loss indeed.
Oh cazaubon, I’m so very sorry for your loss of your sweet pup. My deepest condolences.
Cazaubon I am so terribly sorry, that is just heartbreaking.
I’m so sorry.
So very sorry for your loss and for the awful year.
Big hug.
Fragrancenet buyers – I’m eyeing a bottle that is on clearance and their pop up says “save 30% by signing up for texts”. Is that 30% on top of the sales price?
I haven’t seen one pop up that says sign up for texts, only for email. But they should show you a manufacturer price, then their price, then take the 30 percent off of their price.
Take a look at the price. If it says “price with coupon,” it means that they show it already with the discount, and you get a better price only if the code they would give you gives a better % off than what they currently show, but you cannot combine those. The best discount I’ve ever got from them was 37%. If you follow them for a week or two, you’ll see it.
Agree w/ Undina.
37% is the best I have seen too. Usually if you search in Chrome browser for a fragrance and if Fragrancenet carries it, they will show an ad banner at top of page you can click on and/or you can click on Shopping tab on top of page too and they will give you 37% off when you click through to site.
Thank you. I just tried this and it works. This morning I was about to buy something on Fragrancenet using the 30% coupon, but I didn’t checkout because I knew there was a bigger coupon out there.
SOTD Local artisanal brand Rose en Bos Imithi. One of my perfumes that has evaporated A LOT over the years(the voice of reason in the pipette bottle being another big “loser”),so I am trying the wear it as much as possible before the angels take it all.Beautiful patchouli-rich forest mulchy chypre.LOVE.
Sounds gorgeous!
Use that beauty before it thunks itself!!!
Lovely-sounding SOTD! But, really, a self-thunking bottle???
SOTD is my usual Lumiere Blanche.
I love this time of year. I went to a local orchard yesterday and bought peaches, nectarines and two varieties of apples. Then, I stopped at a new local shop that sold artisan spices, tea, infused vinegars and olive oils.
We actually had some sun shine this weekend. It’s been a relief.
Your day in the orchards sounds perfect!????????????????????
It was a perfect day! Nothing like New England when the nights are cool and the days are warm.
Sounds perfect! ????
Yay!!! You had a great day too! ????????????
Sneaking in here on a Sunday morning . . . hello all!
I know I’ve been AWOL, so maybe I should say “Hello to those who kinda remember me,” instead!
Life has been busy, busy, busy for far too long. Simple pleasures like perfume seem like indulgences that I can’t always prioritize.
I hope everyone on the east coast is doing ok and keeping dry.
I took a look at the swapmeet and realized that even though I saw things I like, I am not the right sort of perfume animal to participate. I (theoretically!) wear pretty much everything I own, so there’s nothing to swap away! Guess I should buy myself a bottle of Au Dela when I find a moment to pamper myself again. ????
Hi Marjorie Rose! I hope your life calms down a little soon, so that small (but important) joys of wearing perfumes as well as reading and writing about them could reclaim their spot in it.
Hi Undina! Thank you! Some day, I hope for a life that is slow and a bit boring. 🙂
You may want to see if the Twisted Lily 20% off applies – LABORDAY2018
Today is the last day to use it.
You sure take your enabling seriously! 😉
Thanks. I might go check it out. . .
MR, nice to see you, and I will say I took FULL adavantage of the current 20% off. In fact, not too long ago when TL had a 20% off sale, I scooped up a bottle of Au Dela. Just saying…????
I meant to ask – did you find a house?
Well, yes and no.
We found a *perfect* house in Sullivan’s Gulch. And everyone else thought so, too. So, it’s gonna be someone else’s perfect house.
Now, house-hunting is on hiatus for a few weeks. I am splitting caregiving duties with my brother–Mom had hip replacement surgery this week, and she’s supposed to have 24 hour care. He has day shift with Mom, and I take over after the end of the school day when he needs to go to work.
Eeeks. Healing thoughts for your mom.
Much appreciated, H!
Hope she makes a rapid recovery!
Thanks, Deva.
And hi back at’cha!
Busy, indeed! That all sounds stressful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your mom.
Always glad to see you when the crazy gives you a break, Marjorie Rose! Best wishes to you and your brother while you all are taking care of your mom during her recovery. And healing thoughts for your mom.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
So good to see you back here!
Hi, stranger! Hopefully, I can make more appearances soon.
Bath and Body Works Birch and Argan body butter topped off with Orange Sanguine.
Ooh, I don’t recall that one. Sounds nice!
That was a B&BW limited edition last year: Birch &Argan, Chestnut& Argan and Amber& Argan
OOO I did not know this!!! Did you try the other two? I am loving the Birch and might just do the same cream combo today…it has a creamsicle vibe.
cream /perfume combo
Yes, the other 2 are also really nice. They were a good release from B&BW, which it doesn’t happen often.
it is delicious, lillyjo 😉
Sotd is No.5 L’eau. It is seriously hot here, loving every last precious second of it. ????
Glad to hear that the weather gods are treating you nicely. ????
This has been a busier than usual weekend. Nothing major, just a bunch of small things that wanted me to deal with them, so I did. There have been blue skies for me for parts of yesterday and most of today, what a relief!!! ????????????????
SOTD = back playing in the sample stash with Miller Harris L’Air de Rien EdP. I like it a lot! This could also make my list for “Best Fall Scents”.
Finally the sun for you!????
ZOMG yes!!! It felt so good to see blue skies instead of grey!
That sense of accomplishment feels good. It’s a relief to take care of those nagging tasks.
Glad you had a sunny weekend!
Weather today was warm but otherwise spectacular … we took a walk at the local gardens, something I don’t think we’ve done since spring.
SOTD is Aedes Grenadille d’afrique – me likey 🙂
Mini review?
I’m getting woody incense over vetiver and something tea-like – the opening is beautiful but the longevity on me was surprisingly short.
Oh, i have not heard that one mentioned here yet…I had some vetiver oil with vanilla in a warmer, and I wondered if there were a vanilla/vetiver perfume, and that is the scent that came up after some research. Glad to hear it is enjoyable!
A great weekend–I biked 23 and a half miles today! And only 6 yesterday. Also today, I THUNK’d my 7.5mL of Pomelo Paradis. I will have to look into getting a 30mL for next summer.
Wow, that’s an impressive distance, good for you!
wow on the biking distance and yes to the thunking
This weekend was JCE’s Un Jardin en Méditerranée, a figgy nod of solidarity to the good folks of…wait for it…Ocracoke Island, which weathered Flo pretty well. They take their figs very seriously: https://www.thedailybeast.com/living-on-an-island-of-figs
Loved the shot of the lighthouse that led the post.
Thank you for that fantastic article! I adore figs…fresh, dried and also in fragrances….
Here is my favorite recipe that uses fresh figs, it’s easy and yummy: https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018294-roasted-chicken-with-figs-and-rosemary.
Wonderful! Thank you! A friend on social media recently posted a picture of her fig clafoutis, which looked absolutely glorious. The fig treat we have from Ocracoke is a small jar of the local fig preserves, warmed, over the best vanilla ice cream we can find. Insanely good!
