Thursday scent of the day 9/13

Posted by Robin on 13 September 2018 265 Comments

Almost-Friday plus Roald Dahl Day plus National Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Providence Perfume Co Lemon Liada. At the moment I smell like lemon drop candy.

Reminder: on 9/14, wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

National Chocolate Day? I can get behind that 😀

Wearing Bois d’Armenie today. One of my top 10 for any season, but much nicer once it cools

Oh, I love Roald Dahl. I read every book of his I could when I was in elementary school.

I haven’t sprayed anything on yet, but ruminating over my morning toast. I think today is going to be a Dzongkha day.

    Have a great day, all!

It seems like there already been four or five national or international Chocolate Days already this year. Not that I am complaining.

In fact, this reminds me of La Via del Profumo Amber Chocolate, which would be really good right now. Yummm! I think the brand name is now Abdes Salaam Attar.

Here in northern CA, every day is perfect, but last night had just the tiniest hint of fall in it. It wasn’t just the cold air, but also the crisp texture that made it feel fall-like!

    ☕☕☕????????????
???????????? Doing a spontaneous Serge Lutens series. Yesterday’s Fumerie Turque was even better in the drydown. ????????????
    Today is the difficult Cedre.
Tuberose, camphorous, indolic, huge amount of cloves (always overwhelming) , musk, and a bear (sic)???? whisper of the eponymous aroma.
Curious to see how this progresses even though I’ve worn it before.
Think I’ll have a Swiss Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Mr. Mustard. ????

I had a bottle of Cedre years ago, but I think I gave it away – it was a time after I discovered “niche” perfume, but before I developed an appreciation for the slightly difficult. Now I like a little hit of camphor, or a random whiff of indole.

???? It is odd smelling, on me.
No weird notes (essences di asparagus, oil of anxiety) , but the Tuberose cloves musk Cedarwood combination is unique. ???????????????????????????? Gotta let it play out.

Coco Mademoiselle has definitely been thinned, diminished since its ’01 debut. Biggest difference is between my 2010 bottle and my 2015. Next to finding a well-kept “vintage” bottle, the Eau Intense version is as close as it gets to the original. But even so, it’s still not the same. : (

Dang. How could I not know it was National Chocolate Day?! Would’ve worn Pinrose Gilded Fox, a straight up hot chocolate scratch-n-sniff sticker scent. Sometimes, you just want to smell like a choco-sticker. 🙂 But not today. Instead, wearing a favorite combo, Narciso Rodriguez for her edt and a spritz of Clinique Aromatics Elixir.

Thanks, SmokeyToes! Definitely try it. I wear fragrances for me, but the For Her + AE combo has probably received the most compliments of anything I wear. It’s gorgeous, unique (nobody I live around wears AE or NR), and it lingers all day.

I have the NR For Her Oil I bet that would be nice too? Or do you think the EDT has that woody aspect that blends better with AE?
I have the AE Velvet Sheer scented oil. It’s really lovely for putting a drop or two in the bath. I think that was released in 2005 or around thereabouts? I’m down to 1/3 of a bottle.

That Kiehl’s is a true layering wonder. Neroli + it = perfect warm weather scent. Have you purchased a new bottle of the musk this year? I did from a department store, and it’s about half the strength of my previous bottle. Was so different, scared me a bit. I’m now hunting older bottles on eBay and such.

My fiance wears Tuscan Leather right now (he refuses to get more than two bottles at a time- he has that and L’Occitane Cade) and I LOOOOOVE it on him. I wear it sometimes too. My fav is to use one spray of Tuscan Leather and one of Noir de Noir! All that to say- you smell great!

Nothing special actually, maybe sandwich is not the right word, it is just a slice of bread with butter (optional) and chocolate flakes on it. Its pretty common in the Netherlands to eat for breakfast or lunch. ☺️

        It looks like this:
        https://goo.gl/images/cpU5KQ

And boxes with chocolate flakes are for sale in every supermarket. We have milk chocolate flakes, dark chocolate, a mix of dark and white chocolate…..

I guess its a variant of chocolate sprinkles (called ‘hagelslag’ here)
Flakes (vlokken) and sprinkles (hagelslag) are to always found side by side in the supermarket here.

SOTD is Tauer’s PHI. So YUMMY! Beautiful morning here, I could almost go so far as to say “cool!”

Super busy day of running errands and mailing stuff, launrdy, groceries- you know, the usual life stuff. Nothing too exciting here except my VAN!! Which is coming along bomb! ????????☺️

Hoping the southeast peeps stay safe and dry! I feel for you guys living in the path, and hope everyone that needs to evacuate did so. Just grab your two legged and four legged loves, your perfumes and your papers and skedaddle. The clean up will be long and arduous methinks.

Stay safe out there folks! ✌????

I think it will be a busy season as I’m receiving Hospital offers/openings already and I usually don’t even start looking until 2-3 weeks from my last day.

I’m wearing Norell Elixir today. This was one that I got from Scentbird that I totally forgot about. I came across it when going through a bag of stuff that I’d been meaning to clean out for a while. I don’t think I’d even tried it. I think I got it around when I had surgery back in April, so it just got tossed in a bag and forgotten. Anyway, it is a bit on the sweet side, but it has a distinct enough peppery note to cut that a bit. It’s kind of like if Lolita Lempicka had made a Si Lolita Intense or something.

Hello: I would love to join you if I may; until this year I considered I didn’t have enough bottles and posting my scent of the day would have been boring for everyone but triggered by my meeting Victoria from BdJ in March last year when I won the perfume class, my collection has increased vastly and I thought now I could contribute.
Today I’m wearing Fragonard Fleur d’Oranger, a trusted friend, almost finished the bottle this summer, a few more sprays to go (I have followed Chocolate Marzipan’s project). Looking forward to my 1st CP tomorrow too.

PS If you are from the UK have a look at my swap list to see if something appeals. It doesn’t have to be a swap, I’d be happy to send to you regardless, these bottles deserve a good home 🙂
They just turned out not to work for me.

Hi Eschmeling: the class was about the great perfumes of the past. It was a real eye-opener to compare so many legendary perfumes. Victoria’s collection is amazing. Orientals and chypres became favorites. Victoria holds classes time to time in wonderful locations, the last one was in Burgundy, she would announce the next one on her blog or when there is a draw again, I hope you will win.

    SOTD = Ormond Jayne Woman

Perfect for Fall and because Coin-op mentioned it yesterday. For a robust perfume (punch in the face where 2-3 sprays gets you to gas out territory), it dries down to a musky whisper in < 5 hours.

PSA but do not read if you’re eating:

I was watching a news segment the other day and subject was hand dryers, especially the Jet dryers where you run your hands up and down two slots while air blows up. Studies have shown that these dryers are germinators and in addition to drying your hands, the blowback air also dissipates e-coli, feces particles and other germs onto your hands AND your face. Looks like good old fashioned soap, water and paper towels are best.

    ????

    You’re welcome.

The regular one is not as bad because they blow down so much less of anything that might be left on people’s hands might land on it and get re-distributed later.

Me, I washed my hands, soap and water, used the air dryer, and patiently waited for someone to enter so I wouldn’t have to touch the handle.

If I can’t get to a paper towel without touching a part of the housing, I do exactly what you do with the pants and the hair. All doors should open out IMHO.

I know they claim the fact that the small study was funded by the paper product trade group had no effect on the findings (what else would they say?), but it makes me a little skeptical.

I think Clorox commissioned a study where the findings showed that a work desk was dirtier than a restroom door handle. I wonder what they were selling? ????

With that said, you are correct that healthy skepticism of findings is necessary considering the sponsor of the study.

Yuck! If that study is true, it is reinforcing how much I don’t like air dryers – the noise – the experience – thank you no – I just try not to touch anything more than I have to – I use my knees a lot to open doors, flush…

But back to perfume, I am wearing OJ Woman right now! i’ve been dabbing it from a sample and it’s very enjoyable to me like that – even with the dabs I find it lasts a long time – I could see how sprays could be very powerful. So interesting I don’t really smell green, definitely think this could be a masculine or unisex.

With so much perfume in the world, I think it would feel good to cross at least one off the list ????

I usually take a few extra napkins from Starbucks and tuck one in my pants pocket and another one in my purse!

The green I smell is a deep green and the exact opposite of the green in Clinique Wrappings.

I was really pleased to hear a kingfisher up on my hill walk yesterday. For years it had its nest in a dead tree ( they bore a hole into clay banks, dead wood etc by drilling in with their beaks) returning every year for at least as long as I have been out on the hill, about 10 years. The dead tree burnt down in a forest fire but it seems the kingfishers are back currently staking out their territory for the mating season. I haven’t seen it yet but it has a very distinctive call, like an angry version of a disconnected telephone. It was a very warm 17C yesterday morning and all the gorse is in bloom and the air was filled with the smell, imagine ylang ylang, pollen and coconut all blurred together and you have an idea. Happy days! JM primrose and rye.

I’m sitting here enjoying a beautiful sunny day waiting for Florence. My SOTD is Vetiver Tonka. We don’t need to evacuate, but I packed an “Oh crap emergency bag” just in case – the two perfumes to make the cut are both from Hermes. Hiris, because it’s Hiris ????, and Santal Massoia because I wear it to sleep every night.

    Stay safe and comfortable everyone!

I was in Annick Goutal Vetiver this morning, but it’s all but disappeared. I’ll see if I can find an EBP to bring me comfort.

Yesterday, I tried Glossier You from a friend’s new bottle. It started out charming enough, with some prominent notes of salty Play-Doh and a warm hug from a middle-aged WASP woman, then morphed into the smell of my body when I’ve worked out and then not showered or changed my clothes for a few hours. “That’s what it’s supposed to smell like,” my friend explained, “like your skin with a sheen of sweat on it!” Ok, I figured, I’d let it develop further.

I’m not sure what happened next. It turned into a stomach-churning mess of well blended awfulness. I don’t know what the notes were, or why it made me feel so sick, but I just couldn’t get into the shower fast enough, two hours into that perfume. So yuck yuck yuck, no more Glossier You for me. My friend loves it, though.

We had a sleepover (in the same bed, because the boyfriend is out of town!) and stayed up talking until 2am talking 🙂 It was wonderful, except I’m not good at operating on little sleep anymore, and 5.5 h sleep is no longer sufficient to keep my 31-year-old body running. Oh well, it was worth it.

I’m sure someone has already mentioned this, but PSA: 20 % off coupon on eBay, JUMPINTOFALL, until Friday night.

I am taking it easy today in Kiehl’s musk lotion. I bought this rather than the EDT because I know some people hate musk scents, and I don’t want anyone wrinkling their noses in the elevator with me. The lotion stays purely on the skin, and it’s extremely comforting. I love fall!

I’ve been so busy at work I didn’t even get to post yesterday, but I’ve been smelling really good. Yesterday I wore SSS Equestrian and today I’m in Masque Milano Tango. Both are in my top 10 for this fall. Luckily we’re having mild weather, so it’s not too early for fall perfumes. I do wish I had tried Equestrian before Laurie closed up shop, and I do hope that it makes a comeback.

I got to go out to lunch with a couple coworker friends, and it made me realize that I need to make sure to go outside during work at least once a day. Ever since we moved our office to be on a quiet street with other office buildings instead of on a busy city street, I don’t get out much during the day which can lead to headaches, bad mood, and eye strain. More effort required, but I can do it!

Wearing some Orris Tattoo tonight. it’s been about 2 hours and it’s in the quiet dry down phase, very soft. I also sprayed the hoodie I’m wearing tonight and may wear it to work tomorrow (to so see if I can fly under the radar).

It’s cool enough inside now that we brought out the blankets for the couches. Yay Fall????
