Hump Day and Chocolate Milkshake Day. And don't forget the swapmeet is still open! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Eau Cerise.
Reminder: on 9/14, wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing Coco Madamoiselle. It is very predictable but nice.
A student and her mom gave it to me after I complimented her mom wearing when she came in to volunteer. I usually go out of my way to compliment any perfume I smell in public. There are so many “I am allergic/don’t like it” voices out there. I am trying to add my one small voice to the side of scent being beautiful.
(yes I do know there are true allergies and I never wear any to Dr. offices)
I like to compliment a woman’s perfume from time to time, but as a man, I try to be as unobtrusive and gentle as possible.
I feel similarly inhibited about complimenting a man. Once I was walking behind a man on campus and he smelled so good, I really wanted to ask him! He was of another nationality and ethnicity and I feared it might seem too weird, so I didn’t, but I was truly curious about what it was he had on.
I have been in the same situation. I was walking behind a man, maybe he was middle eastern? He smelled so amazing and his cologne was very spicy smelling but I was to shy to say anything. I went out of my way to walk an extra block behind him..anything that makes the streets of NYC smell that good…
I went to the theater Sunday and the man infant of me had a fabulous scent. I figured his girlfriend might not like a stranger complimenting him on their date though.
“Man infant” hahahahahaha
Do you think that CocoM has been reformulated at all? That was my signature scent in my late 20’s. I am afraid to smell the current version
I have only tried the recent so I cannot say
I think it’s changed a bit. The opening of the new intense version smells like the original to me.
I do the same shellyw!
Coco Mademoiselle is a lovely scent. I wish it worked on me. I love to smell it on others.
I am going to give Coco Mademoiselle Intense a proper try next time I am shopping. Maybe that version will suit my chemistry better.
I find the Intense quite syrupy and very heavy on the tonka – especially in the dry down. It’s almost Coco Angel.
Rrose, from Ellis Brooklyn.
Quick bowl of cold cereal and Taylor’s English breakfast tea.
Will have more substantial chow at lunch with my papa and hopefully a sister or two.
Y’all have a great day!
Hope it is a great lunch!
There are little peaks of sun coming thru the gray skies that have been lurking here for five days; so I’m brightening it up with Olfactive Studio’s Flashback. Vetiver, Citrus and RHUBARB. ????
Uh oh. I now have the ear worm in my head…”my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…”
I can teach you
But I’ll have to charge ????????????❗❗❗????
HA! I <3 you Bear
????????????
that scent sounds great. I love rhubarb scent
Flashback is an amazing scent!
It’s cool and warm, and sharp and soft. It’s just yummy.
I have had people comment on it, thinking it was a man’s scent,
but I love it for it complexity and it’s uplifting energy.
I think I’ll wear it today!
I’m in Cabaret, blind buy. Totally worth it!
Thinking of blind buying Knize Ten for my husband, too risky?
Yay, I’m getting a decant of Cabaret from the swap meet – it has been on my test list forever, can’t wait to try it!
I’ve been toying with blinded buying Knize Ten too! It sounds wonderful. If you do, let us know.
If you like Tabac Blond Caron, you will like KT.
Similar, but not the SAME.
YMMV
????
I’ve been wearing Knize Ten for several years, including the past 10 days. For me, it was an acquired taste. I wouldn’t be without it now but at first I was pretty confused. Everyone says it’s a “leather” but I find lots of carnation in it. I suggest you may wish to try a sample.
My experience in loaning to Knize Ten (which I love) to guy friends was that it does not work on every skin, and not everyone loves it even when it behaves on their skin. I would recommend sampling.
Thank you al!! I should better sample then…
Wearing Branch & Vine, and a dab of Eau De Strawberry Yogurt I Spilled on My Shirt. What a morning! Forgot to set my alarm, made it out of the house in 12 minutes, drove to work instead of a nice peaceful bus ride, got here and immediately dropped pink yogurt on my dark shirt. I’m still not sure I’m awake.
Thank goodness for my desk stash of samples. Branch & Vine is REALLY growing on me, to the point where I might need a mini, although to me it also smells like fruit punch sometimes.
I am totally with you. I woke up late (I forgot to reset my alarm) and had about 15 minutes to get to work. Because I live in such a tiny town, I was able to stop for cold caffeine and still made it to work on time. My cats didn’t get their breakfast, but they have kibble so they should be fine.
Thank goodness for kibble. 🙂
Ugh! But you do indeed smell great today.
What, and no coffee? Must remedy that pronto!
Unfortunately, had the same wakeup/commute experience this morning!
You too? The alarm clocks are conspiring!
I think they are! 😀
I’m in Boucheron by Boucheron. Despite getting a 5-star review, for some reason I avoided it and actually thought out would be terrible. Then I found a mini of it! It’s sublime, in a synthetic 80’s way. I had to get a bottle, since it’s not very expensive. I actually prefer it to Samsara (at least the newer, screetchy versions). The narcissus and ivy heart is just phenomenal.
Have a great day all!
Prefer it to Samsara?? I must try this!!!
Current Samsara anyway. I have some older clear bottles and those are like jewels. But when it went into those red bottles, Samara became very very scratchy to me.
Oh, sounds intriguing… Was the bottle you bought Vintage? Or just whatever’s available today?
My batch code says 2011, so not too vintage!
????
Synthetic 80s at its most classy. I wonder if someone on the design side was intentionally ironic with the imitation gem bottles, or was that just the 80s…
It was probably just a sign of the times but the irony is perfect.
It’s one of my favorite perfumes for fall and going into winter. It really a big 80s scent but it is just lovely.
I’m ready for winter! But I’m not shy about big perfume in the heat, as long as it’s gently applied.
Agreed! Boucheron is LOVELY in heat- just a light spritz and it’s like this lovely big spicy floral radiant kiss. I wore it a few times in our Dune like weather this summer and it was wonderful.
Ooh Boucheron! Yes it’s a big 80s scent with Krystle Carrington hair and shoulder pads, but I was THERE in the 80s and I am very fond of the big hair genre. You smell great 🙂
I never tried it, but I do know exactly what that bottle looks like, it may be because I remember the ads in all the glossy magazines, or maybe an aunt or mother (maybe even my own mother? i’ll ask her) had it on her vanity back in the 80s 🙂
my grandma wore boucheron! my mom has her (probably) 90s bottle of it and it’s so spicy, like a fragrant bazaar.
Hello all! SOTD is vintage Chanel’s No. 22 edc. 🙂
Kiwi/mango/kefir/spinach smoothie and just regular coffee today, I was radioactive yesterday!
House twins
sweet!
Vintage cologne is the best
You smell so wonderful! Your smoothie sounds great.
KellyC – thanks! I notice when I eat smoothies for breakfast, I have more energy, and I’ve dropped six pounds, which is a great benefit!
smelling good! i have a bottle of vintage edc but mine is musty/syrupy 🙁
funny story though, i bought it on ebay, then the mailman delivered it to the wrong mailbox in the apartment. how did i know? i could smell it through the metal door! i left him a note, and all was well 🙂
Musty/syrupy? Wow. Do you think the bottle turned?
The aldehydes have turned on my bottle, but in the dry down, I get an orange blossom, ylang ylang, and tuberose over an incense base. Very serene and meditative.
Yes! So glad that you mentioned the incense. That’s how I remember my vintage 22 cologne to be
I am in Chanel Coco Noir body cream.. its so delicious. Better than the perfume..
Thinking of those that have Florence coming there way. Batten down the hatches. ..be safe!
You smell great !
You smell lovely! I have the cream (and soap) in the regular Coco extrait. YUM!
I second the folks in Florence’s path – hoping everyone stays safe!
I’ve eyed that soap for years. What do you think of it?
tell me more about the cream!? Is the one in the glass jar or the one in the bottle?
You smell wonderful! Chanel body products are so luxurious.
☕☕☕????????????
Fumerie Turque , one of the more obscure Serge Lutens ????
Tobacco Styrax Chamomile Hay
????????????????????????????????
Prayers for all in difficult situations, but those impacted by Florence particularly. ????????????
And of course my pop culture mind sings, oh it’s so better to be safe than sorry. ????????????
????????????
Love this one. On me though, it is total filth. Quickies on the hood of the car at a rest stop filthy…..
I wonder if it would be too much for work….. 😛
????Huh! That is a YMMV!
But MKK is just a bit animalic on me, so maybe I have a high filth threshold. LOLOLOL ????????????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????
Take on me?
Correct! I have to sing that line, then turn the rest off. LOLOLOL ????????✌ Rock on, lillyjo! ????????????
I can’t hear that song without watching the video in my mind. ????????????????????????????
Fumerie Turque is great! I basically donated mine to a younger friend, since it became impossible to find just before he made up his mind about it. Since he is single and still looking for a soul mate, it’s for a good cause, right?
Excellent gift, nozknoz! It is smelling absolutely gorgeous right now! Tobacco, hay, styrax, benzoin. Methinks FT would be difficult to dislike. ????????????✌????
Pass me some triple strength coffee, Bear!!!
☕☕☕????????????☕☕☕☕☕☕????Enjoy KellyC!
I got back from vacation yesterday to find several packages awaiting me. I have all my packages delivered to work instead of home, since I am mostly at work. One of my packages was my Scentbird pick for September, Amouage Bracken Woman. The herbal nature of this reminds me of Silences, in a good way. At least I can afford Silences.
I love getting packages with “presents,” even if I bought them myself!
The discounters carry a bunch of Amouage at excellent prices…
SOTD is Yvresse! Fruity chypres are just made for fall, in my opinion.
And I have finally received that $ from the client. Thank you, Robin and other NSTers who supported me. 🙂
So glad you got your money!
Tahnk you!
Yes indeed, and Yvresse is the beautiful
queen of fruity chypres, u smell wonderful!
Thanks! And it lasts and lasts.
Chanel no. 19 EDT today.
On Sunday I dropped into Lush to pick up a mask (FOMO jelly mask – my magic bullet against redness) and, while there, I sampled Rentless on a whim. I’m not a big fan of patchouli-forward scents in general, and I didn’t buy it at the time, but since then I cannot. Stop. Thinking. About it. Sooo, I’m planning on going back to purchase (the solid version) today! I can see it getting heavy use this fall.
????I hate when I don’t purchase something, and then obsess about it. ????????????
Especially if it’s a PITA to return to the store. ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Agreed!! It’s a ~30 minute drive to the mall, so requires some dedication to a purchase 🙂
I’m obsessing about a perfume right now, actually! 🙂
Tell us about it!!
Do tell!
OJ Woman ????????????
Eeking out another wearing from the .5 ML sample I ordered from my first big order from surrender to chance
It’s so good! It really smells like “amber” to me, I was surprised to look at all the notes, reminds me of Ambre Sultan
You smell gorgeous!
My first associations with this one is green and forest, but it does have something resionous in the dry-down.
thank you! Well, that makes me question the words I use to describe perfume, maybe what I am calling “amber” is “non-galbanum green”. who knows?? ha
Love OJ Woman, but get hardly any amber at all.
interesting!
Another vote here for very little or no amber.
I almost wore Woman today. You smell so good!
Thank you! I know this is one of your favorites ????
No amber for me either. It is sharp resinous green on me – so good!
In Mona di Orio Chamarre.
This is a “purple” scent and somehow sad. But beautiful.
Reminds me of funeral scenes in Italian movies: beautiful women wearing black veils and chic black clothes.
Oh don’t know this one but I am now curious.
I starts out a bit perfumey (?aldehydes/chanel no 5), but over in a flash. Then lavender, violet-iris and the drydown is listed as ambery, but there is a little touch or “feel” of suede.
Colin Maillard on basenotes likens it to a powdery neo classic statue illuminated by moonlight. I would place this statue in a garden with lots of lavender, but the garden would have to be a formal and sad place like a cemetery.
PS The lavender isn’t brash or barbershop.
More like the smell of lavender in a garden (the purple, warm waft) -not crushed or herbal.
This sounds amazing! And it looks like it is out of production. Boo!
SOTD is an unlabelled sample that smells of the Atlantic ocean and I love it because it reminds me of a toned down version of Aramis New West for Women which I wore eons ago when no one was making acquatics
New West was so good. I had a mini with shimmer in it, that I think was an oil, and the big spray bottle. The mini turned pretty quick though.
Yes I don’t think New West would hold up over time. But back in those days I used my fragrances until they were done so it never got old. Nice to see that someone knows it!!
I’ve never smelled anything like it, I’m hoping you can find out what your sample is.
New West for Women is selling on ebay for 400 to 500 dollars a bottle and on Amazon one bottle left for 800 dollars!!!!!!
That’s insane, I guarantee that composition didn’t hold up well. Also, there was a reform, I believe in the late nineties, that was noticeably different to me.
Interesting! Maybe someone here can come up with ideas of what that perfume might be. It would be so nice to find out as you already know how much I like scents that remind me of the ocean.
Yes I would like to know too!!!! LOL
cm8, I was wondering if you would like any more mini bottles for your Christmas tree, or do you want them to be drained by you personally?
I will take them if you plan on throwing them out….or else you could use them to decorate your own ???? tree????
I probably have your address somewhere, but just in case, can you give it to me? I am Luanne Dot Teall at the gee mail dot com. I’m going to Tennessee for a week so I will mail the package from there and not violate any international laws I don’t know about.
ScentSpirit- emailing you now 🙂
Y’ALL WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THE MYSTERY SCENT IS WHICH I WORE LAST NIGHT AND ALL DAY TODAY AND HAPPEN TO REALLY LIKE- Secretions Magnifique!!!! My friend literally just told me-LOL!
Get out of here!????
yup!!!! Y’ALL NEVER BELIEVED ME WHEN I SAID I HAVE BOTH WEIRD AND SCENT EATING SKIN…..ha ha! I just shoved my wrist under Mr. CM8’s nose and he said it does not smell over powering, it’s neutral and smells like the ocean…..tonight I am going to tell him what it is-LOL!!!!!
My opinion is that SM is an exercise in the olfactory power of suggestion.
I have a sample, have sprayed on skin from a friend’s bottle, and it is a metallic floral that MAYBE smells faintly like blood tastes.
PG-13 comment: I DO NOT smell semen.
Obviously, YMMV
????✌????????????????
I agree Bear on the power of suggestion. It smells like seaweed in the best possible way… Not at all vile or overpowering… it’s very pleasant and I do like it.
Ack.
Ha! Honestly, Robin, on my skin it smelled great.
Still, ack. But I will take your word for it 🙂
PLOT TWIST! Good on your friend for sneaking that in. I’ve never smelled SM but it sounds nice on you. ????
I’m currently wearing Wood Sage and Sea Salt. Just hanging out around the house waiting for the hurricane, so of course it’s a beautiful sunny day. Heading to yoga soon and will probably switch to Passage D’Enfer after my shower.
My husband decided we needed a theme cocktail for Hurricane Florence, so he came home with Negroni fixings last night. (It was invented in Florence.). I’d never had one before – they’re wonderful! How have I gone so long without this yummy cocktail in my life?
Have an excellent day everyone!
Yum, Negronis… Your husband sounds cool; I love the idea of finding a little bit of happiness from the storm.
Stay safe!
Stay safe and enjoy the Negronis. You smell great! I wore JM Wood Sage & Sea Salt on my long flight last week. It was very calming for me and I didn’t have to worry about aggravating people with scent problems on the plane with me.
Good luck in the storm!
Be safe!!!
Stay safe Sistine!
Wearing Salome today.
Bringing out my heavy hitters as the temps become more civilized.
I love that time of year when the heavy hitters can start making their returns 🙂
Super busy, insane day. Besides, grey, foggy and muggy. Not a good combo!
Wearing Hermes Un Jardin sur le Toit. First bottle that my hand grabbed in the darkness when I was rushing out to work very early this morning.
Have a peaceful Hump Day everyone!
Our hump day is almost halfway over????????????
Hope is over soon! ????
Yuk to fog! Hope your day goes fast.
Hope so too!
Everyday I tell myself “It’s Friday” and it works!
Overcast and warm, needed something cheerful and comforting so I’m in Dulcis is Fundo.
I hope your day and mood get sunnier. Chocolate might help!
I had a yummy brownie and a good yoga class, feeling a lot more chipper. 🙂
Brownies are my favorite kind of chocolate. Glad your feeling a bit better.
Yummy!
A big thunk-a-roo to my VS luminous body cream. I used the last of it under Shalimar Souffle this morning. It’s my day off, I just have to get up the nerve to make an unpleasant phone call and then enjoy the rest of the day, or nap ????
Relax and enjoy your day off. You deserve it! And yay! for another THUNK!
Thank you! Phone call was made, and now… relief.
Yay to thunk and enjoy your day!!!
Thanks! I’ve been working on my body lotions, I should have another one thunked soon, I hope. The only one I hoard is Korres Jasmine, that is a winter favorite.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your day after your phone call. Hugs!
Thanks! Big hugs back ????
✌Mini review of Souffle, please? Anything at all like Shalimar itself? TIA ????????????
If I close my eyes and sniff, I think of lemon and vanilla pudding that is being cooked on the stove, which is sitting on a big fluffy cloud. If it had a different name, I would not have associated it with the original. Stays pretty close to the skin. I bought the Peacock bottle from a discounter, and I really enjoy it.
Sounds great, lillyjo! I’ve seen that bottle, very pretty!
Thanks, and enjoy!
????????✌????????
Oh oh, you may have created another lemming lillyjo!
Oops ????
Googled that bottle! It’s beautiful..
I am wearing Hermessence Cedre Sambac today and drinking a cup of pomegranate green tea.
How do you like it?
Wearing Cuir Fetiche today, because I needed to smell classy and expensive at a first-thing-in-the-morning meeting.
Classy and expensive is always good!
Yes, and I have a weakness for classy & expensive smelling perfumes. Quite a lot from Hermes falls into this category for me. 🙂
A good number of Chanel’s fit the classy and expensive category, too. I think we should have a community project on this category!
Trying Fragonard Jasmin for the first time and comparing to Diptyque Insensees Jasmine.
And? The results are . . .
Both are very nice…I prefer the Diptyque overall…more interesting and complex to my nose. But while there is some overlap they are different beasts and the Fragonard is lovely in its own right…and far cheaper…$26 for 50 ml at Beautyhabit (no affiliation)…quite the steal. This is the Diptyque bottle w/ the bulb atomizer too which annoys me to no end.
Gosh, I’m thinking the Diptyque has to win that battle? And thanks for your answer about yesterday’s verbenas!

$26 is hard to beat! But boy, that Diptyque is so nice.
Yesterday was Dryad, which works in all seasons for me. Today Oris Tattoo from the Parle Moi dr Parfum sampler. I might need this one.
Oris Tattoo is such a wonderful name!
It really is isn’t it? And really a lovely iris.
You can’t go wrong with a lovely iris. Hope you’re having a good week.
Yes, you need a FB of Orris Tattoo ????
My slyvaine delacourte vanilla discovery set arrived yesterday and I have been enjoying testing some of it (I think some other NSTers are too? Maybe kpaint?)
I loved Virgile which is described as an “aromatic vanilla” and has cedar notes. To me it’s a less synthetic cousin of my beloved Lune Feline. It smells like a very good body lotion – I mean that as a compliment.
Valkyrie is described as a “fresh vanilla” and was too sweet for me but also very natural smelling. Will report on the others in the set as I try them.
I was happy to learn that Delacourte was behind some of my favorite Guerlains during her time there, including Cuir Beluga and L’instant as creative director.
I think I would like the Virgile, based on your description!
It’s really very nice and easy to wear
Fingers crossed for all in the path of Florence. ???? This time last year we were coming home to no water, no power, no cell service, and no internet after evacuating from Irma. But, hey, the house was standing, so I was happy.
SOTD is the beautiful Seville l’aube.
Fingers and toes crossed – stay safe
Stay safe! You smell wonderful!
Really hoping all stay safe!
Smell good and stay safe!
Seville a l’aube is one of my favorite “night out” scents!
Chanel Sycamore today, the EdP version that I bought earlier this year. Unlike most, I did not care for the original version but really like the EdP.
This is the first fall that I’ve had Sycamore around. It’s a candidate for my fall top ten, but there is heavier competition in that category than any other season.
Also, I find it a bit on the masculine side. I’m planning to generously enable, er, I mean, loan it to a guy friend to test. 😉
Bonus: speaking of *original* Sycamore, here is the Bois de Jasmin review comparing the 2008 and 1920 versions:
https://boisdejasmin.com/2008/04/sycomore-chanel.html
I wonder if the EdP is any closer to the 1920 original. To me, it’s almost not a vetiver and does have more sandalwood. What it reminds me of is one of the old school Hermes masculines, such as Bel Ami or Equipage. I always eventually find those a bit harsh, and Sycamore is an improvement in that sense.
Sorry, the correct spelling of the fragrance is Sycomore. Spell check and my tired eyes misled me.
Fascinating observation by Octavian in a comment on the Grain de Musc review of Sycomore:
“vetiver and grapefruit notes like methyl pamplemousse were allways good friends. even the natural oil depending on the source might have this kind of notes. The same frendship is true for pineapple and galbanum (from Dynascone to AAG plus the naturals).
But vetiver played a major role in many classics of feminine perfumery. Used either as vetiver oil Bourbon, vetiveril acetate, vetivenol and all kind of products derived from the oil. It’s important in the soft woody note (powdery) of chypre aldehydic perfumes. I like this note in Crepe de Chine, Arpege, Ma griffe, Djedi. Vetiver + orris and powdery notes gave the very famous base Vetyrisia, present in many classic products.”
You know I WANT to smell Vetyrisia now!!!
And so do I! But guessing we’ve both smelled it in something.
Or maybe hundreds — apparently, Firmenich still sells it (although it must have changed over the decade).
One source describes it thus:
An ambivalent material as its name suggests. Iridescent, somewhere between violet and woods with vetiver notes and some mentholic sparkle along the way.
How interesting.
Sorry, the original is 1930, not 1920. I need more coffee and some sunshine!
I prefer the EDP to the EDT too and wore it on Monday, as it is also fall to me and we actually had a fall like day. I do get vetiver from it, but agree there are other things going on too. It’s not like wearing Hemingway (!), which I did last night. I really like it, but it is definitely masculine insofar as I agree to gender scents!
Good to know I’m not alone, Amy!
Reviews of the original talk about hazelnut, but to me this one smells like it has tobacco, which was, interestingly, one of the 1930 Sycomore’s notes.
Have you ever come across any interesting articles about Benzoin? I noticed a runner with yellow/ brown stained skin and strapping tape yesterday ( tincture of benzoin used to increase stickiness ) and have been thinking about it ever since. I can’t remember if you were looking into sandalwood but there has been one or two articles in the Fiji Times about surveying and marking the sandalwood plantations in an attempt to get back into the market. The original trees were almost wiped out when Pacific sandalwood was traded with the Chinese for tea back in the day.
I haven’t researched benzoin yet. Based on your observation, I wonder if benzoin is why so many oud accords smell like bandaids?
I was sniffing some scrumptious real sandalwoods from Ensar Oud. Just heavenly! It’s wonderful to hear about Pacific sandalwood plantations.
I remember seeing an article about Guerlain’s sandalwood plantation in Indonesia. There was a delightful photo of Thierry Wasser out in the field with the little sandalwood saplings wearing an untucked shirt, khakis (IIRC), and trainers. Such a different image of that true dandy!
Cire Trudon Bruma today. This could be seasonless, but it needs short sleeves so it doesn’t get squelched under clothing. Almost done with this travel spray ????
Thanks for the reminder to get out my Cire Trudon samples. Fall is the perfect season for them!
Agree! Especially Revolution and Olim. I prefer Mortel in the heat since it’s a bit too dry for me in cold weather.
You smell wonderful. I wear it year round and just overspray!
Thank you! Yes, the luxury of having 100ml! Which I don’t ???? Getting my hairline on my neck helps, though.
Hello all!
1) Please be safe SE coastal areas!
2) Am in Boucheron, my happy fall and winter big 80s fragrance.
3) Mini movie review: Saw Black Klansman, a brilliant mix of comedy and pathos, with a heartbreaking coda at the end. Entire cast is brilliant and deserve serious consideration for Oscar season. I mean, go see it! *throws up hands*
Also: The Little Stranger, the second movie with Domnhall Gleason that SUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKEED this year. At least with the first one I know he made his coin; The Little Stranger is a smaller, more intense film. It has been badly marketed as a horror film; it’s a Gothic drama- one that examines the toxicity of class systems, male privilege and the ever so evergreen Cracks In British Reserve ™
Which, OK?
But here is the thing: we gotta care about somebody, we (the audience) has to have a connection. And I could not give a darn about ANY of these people, save poor Lord Ayres in the beginning and even then I could not sustain my interest or care. Gleason is protagonist as monster, but due to poor pacing and bad movie beats you kinda get irritated with him and wish he would go (expletive) off to a city and show his worth since is literally better than any of the people in the house. The reason why he sticks around is reveal in the last scene, which SUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKSSSSS but still I wanted everyone to die.
Don’t go see Little Stranger.
Oh, that is SO disappointing about The Little Stranger! I loved the book and the casting sounded great. ????
Now, I wanna read the book- because as poorly paced as the movie is, it had a LOT OF THINGS TO SAY.
The casting is brilliant but the audience empathy in the film was only ever with poor Lord Ayres.
Gleason, being model level thin, looks great in his English country clothing I must say.
Boucheron is making an appearance today on NST
Yes!
Oh no, what a disappointment.. loved the book, like Aparatchick, and love Ruth Wilson!
Ruth Wilson is the BOMB and she inhabits her roles with such wonderful energy. But that was not exploited here; pacing and beats REALLY diluted her role. Honestly, with better editing on the script AND post production she would be a contender for awards season.
I’m dying to see Black Klansmen!!
In Stash today and loving every minute of it. Trying to get through this day. The weather is beautiful and I do not want to be at work!
You smell GREAT! And that is a perfect fall scent!
SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDP
I was inspired by what Robin wore on Monday. Sweet resinous tobacco — so good.
The saga of the unauthorized use of my credit card to purchase over $2,000 worth of audio equipment. I was “asked to approve” said charge on Monday when I’m fact, the charge already went through two weeks ago. The company immediately closed the card as soon as I said it’s unauthorized (of course I thought it was in the midst of happening so Inwas perplexed as to why they couldn’t stop it and now I know why). I did get a FedEx notice mid week almost 2 weeks ago because I was expecting a package but really did not care when it arrived – had I looked at it I would have known something was amiss as my name and address were listed in the Ship to but did not place an order for 22 lbs. of equipment. I got another FedEx notice a few days later but also ignored it because I figured it was a delayed delivery notice – had I looked at it, I would have seen that there was a request made to hold the package at a Walgreens. The 3rd notice was a delivery issue as whoever ordered it did not pick it up (or was unable to since I had the tracking number and the person did not … it is required to pick up the item). The package is now on its way back to the audio equipment company. The credit card had been in my possession at all times so this had to have been harvested online. I’ll probably stop by that Walgreens to observe how things work there. Not sure if the police will be involved – I asked the CSR and all he said was it is up to the fraud department — I don’t have much confidence though. More to come …
Yikes, I often ignore Fedex notices because I’m afraid they might be phishing attempts rather than genuine. I also had purchases I did not make show up on my debit card a few months ago. It was never out of my hands, and I don’t use it in ATMs, either.
One useful thing I learned in dealing with my credit card’s fraud department is that scammers will often test a month or so in advance with very small charges (to test/establish a precedent with computerized screening, I think, and see if the card owner is paying attention). I hadn’t been scanning such small charges carefully in my statements, so they got me.
They also take advantage of how we are used to how vendor names can be somewhat cryptic in statements. If you see one that is all numbers, that is a scam.
Good luck, Hajusuuri, and thanks for letting us know about this.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I do scan my statements but will go back again to see if I see something fishy.
Years ago, when STC came about after the company-owners split the business, STC appeared on statements as if it was a triple x company. I called my credit card company and they said it was for STC. I let STC know and, while it may not have been the result of my note to STC, their name became more normal.
Good work, hajusuuri!
Wearing Slinky Carnation edp (custom DSH). One spray is still quite strong and still not work appropriate…. (fortunately, it’s my day off)
Too strong or are there skanky bits?
Even diluted from extrait to edp it’s still really strong plus it’s an old-school animalic (real civet, real Tonkin musk, real ambergris plus some synthetics) under the carnation. Not skanky per se but definitely not appropriate for giving massages
Oy vey! well, when we see each other, I’ll definitely want to sniff this on you !
That was fun: I got to do a swapmeet swap in person! My Vetiver Tonka has a loving new home, and I get to swan about in some tuberosey Lutens Cedre. And there was some happy perfume chat and exchanging of samples and wee decants over some good coffee.
That’s great. I met Waterdragon and Gaynor through this site and they have spoiled me with perfume knowledge and samples.
Sounds like a fun outing!I miss Merlin who have disappeared from perfumes and my life recently. We used to have loads of fun on sniffathons and had our own little swop-club.
I was wondering about her as well as s bunch of other commenters who used to be fairly active!
Nice! I’ve met a good number of NSTers and other bloggers over the years both in and out of the NY/NJ area.
I wish I knew a local perfume nerd!
SOTD is Eau de Rochas – I don’t have an official Top 10 of Fall, but if I did this would probably make the cut. It’s quite hot well into October where I live, so I prefer non-citrus colognes this time of year. JM’s Wood Salt and Sea Sage is another good one.
Happy Wednesday!
You smell fantastically refreshing, and that’s one of my favorite bottles, ever.
Second that! So good.
i have been enjoying watching the leaves on the trees unfurl . There is a large chestnut tree in the graveyard and its leaves started out very limp, so each cluster looked like a wonderful pointed handkerchief skirt. Now they are plumping up slowly, giving each cluster lift, as if someone is slowly raising an umbrella . I find myself just standing and staring. New leaves are a kind of virgin green that amazes me. Wearing Weleda rose deodorant as a body spray layered over Gabrielle…a lovely combination.
Also, in tree news…New Zealand’s oldest oak tree blew over at the weekend. It was planted in 1824 which just shows how young European settlement is
There is nothing like that early green!
BTW, there was a video posted on the Washington Post weather site of a recent appearance of the aurora australis in New Zealand:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2018/08/27/surprise-solar-storm-set-off-gorgeous-northern-and-southern-lights-saturday-night/?utm_term=.dea0ec5c500b
Did you get to see that, or was it south of you?
That’s my ‘local’ beach – Allans Beach where the Hoiho (rare yellow eyed penguin live). The really great thing is that the director of Otago Museum, Ian Griffin, is an astronomer and spends his nights watching stars and aurora and now many locals are really into the stars and keen to make our town a night sky/dark city (changing street lights). I don’t have a good view south from my house so rarely see aurora unless I go out looking. Usually the sky looks green and purple to the naked eye but far more vivid when long exposure photography is involved. Ian Griffin has a great twitter feed.
Great to know!
Also, sorry to hear about the oak tree. The date is another indicator of how much more vast the Pacific is than the Atlantic, I guess.
I enjoy descriptions like this so much, thank you 🙂
Does the weleda deodorant work? I’m always on the look out for effective natural deodorants
Probably not but it’s strong enough to smell through clothing and it lingers. I will wear it during my hill walk tomorrow and report back (as sitting down all day isn’t much of a test)
I love your descriptions!
Kenzo Amour today, courtesy of the kind Elisa P. About to spray more on.
Going back to the weekend poll…my Daniel Silva book came through. So difficult to put down. Spies, spies and more spies…. binge-reading. It’s a thing….
That’s a good one!
Lavandes Trianon again today, because it grew on me yesterday and while we’ll still hit the upper 70ies today, it feels more fall-like now somehow and I’m in no mood for citrus.
I shout out to all parents of young children who still have to regularly wake up at night for this, that, or the other – we mostly have outgrown that phase, but last night we had a small-ish guest come in, the dog decided there was no better time for a good paw lick than the middle of the night, and the small-ish guest followed me to her bedroom when I abandoned the family bed. How did we do it all these years?
I second that — hard for me to imagine that kind of sleep deprivation now!
Lacoste Jaune was my SOTD.Unobtrusive, sporty, masculine thingy, but “office”-recovery room in theatre where I worked today-safe.Dull and boring and too predictable in other words.I bought it when it just came out, mainly because I LOVE that shade of yellow, and Lacoste shirts are always a perfect fit for my no-brainer jeans and a tee days. It’s relegated to air-care,so will be unofficially thunked.
Redeemed myself with Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan tonight, for a really cool dinner date with an old friend.Meaty, sweaty, musky, dirty hot flesh.I @#$&% love it.
Such an odd day today though. One of those where you feel you were stuck in the Twilight Zone.
Peace out.
✌????❤️????
Enjoy your dinner date! The Lacoste doesn’t sound like your cup of tea at all, glad you got to switch.
Have fun tonight!!!
Hope you had a great time!
SotD was Ormonde Woman
Right now I am wearing Winter Woods from a small sample vial, enjoying every second of it!
Current and also new obsession: nail polish.
I finally managed to grow my nails. (Yes, been biting and chewing on them my whole live)
So now I am trying all sorts of colours and brands. I feel like I have some catching up to do ????????
Oh and the whole summer I refrained from buying new samples. I tried to enjoy my fb’s more and to drain some vials from my ahem….Himalaya of samples.
But yesterday I could not longer resist, I ordered some Zoologist samples. I was, of course, triggered by their new release Tyrannosaurus Rex, made by Gardoni! (i am a big fan of MAAI and MEM)
I LOVE nail polish! I had an outrageous (for me) 44 bottles, and have been working on using them up over the past couple of years. I am now down to 30, and half of those are minis. Wearing polish all the time has stopped me biting my nails and cuticles.
Re: “Wearing polish all the time has stopped me biting my nails and cuticles.”
YUP, works for me too!
I love purples and greens
And of all the brands I tried so far, no one offers consistent quality for all releases. But I think Essie is doing a pretty good job on average, especially at that price.
Essie is my favorite…and they do such great purples. I really liked the summer 2018 LE purple, although I lighten it a bit, it’s just too dark for my skin tone.
I am wearing Essie’s ‘Maximilian strasse Her’ right now, a gorgeous grey with a hint of green!
I think i know what purple you mean, its gorgeous…Essie’s summer collection was (and still is) on display in a lot of drugstores here.
And I was just staring at that color yesterday while waiting for a prescription fill! I might have to buy it, but meanwhile I bought Mooning, which looks to be bluer.
But generally speaking I only wear a few colors, and only do my toes, so nail polish bottles last me forever.
I went shoe shopping today…
I have a gift card to this shop in the Upper East side, I didn’t find anything yet but I just wanted to share with you my shoe outing!
I already told you I fell in love with the brand AGL right? Good looking AND comfortable, with practical heel height and not too small. Also, look for it in sale/discounted, because its not cheap. 🙁
I hope you can use that gift card soon!
I love to shop fall and winter outfits, because they are mostly more in colours I love (dark reds and greens, grey, black).
The gift card is for this store called french soles. No affiliation https://www.frenchsoleshoes.com
I will check out AGL when there is a sale.
Oh ballet flats are so cute!
I have one pair of pretty flats but sometimes I slip out of it 🙁
It probably has to do with my feet shrinking half a size in colder weather. When its hot it hardly happens.
I had my eye on the kitten heels https://www.frenchsoleshoes.com/new-arrivals/coquina-black-suede.html
Oh that looks good, I looove black suede!
I’ll be ordering a sample of TRex soon and I’d be interested in your thoughts on it. I’ve enjoyed sampling all of the Zoologist line, even when they’re definitely not for me.
I only tried Bat so far. Interesting and well made, but not something Id wear that often.
Yes I’ll let you know what I think about TRex 🙂
But I really dont know when it will arrive (from Canada to Europe…)
I pre-ordered a hajusuuri-sized sample of T-Rex last week!
A Hajusuuri-sized sample is the best size 🙂
Rather late to the party, wearing Neela Vermiere Trayee today. I absolutely love it but had gyros for lunch and sadly dripped tzatziki on my shirt. The combination isn’t a good one.
Eeek. Trayee is quite nice!
wearing fragonard lune de miel, then as i walked out the door, sprayed some jo malone basil and neroli on my shirt. i think i gave myself a headache.
Well that wasn’t a nice gift…………….????✌????
My workplace is in chaos, and the answer to my irritation with it is De Profundis ????✌️
Eeeek, I hope it gets sorted out! De Profundis ❣
Chaos at work is not good!
Super late as usual. My SOTE is Kelly Caleche edp. I’ve been ignoring this one but pulled it out as I was rearranging my stash from summer to fall scents.
Hope everyone is safe in the wake of Florence.
