Tuesday scent of the day 9/11

Posted by Robin on 11 September 2018 268 Comments

Tuesday, plus the National Day of Service and Remembrance. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Cuir d'Ange because the therabbitsflower wore it yesterday. Tea at the moment is Scottish Breakfast Blend from Upton.

Reminder: on 9/14, wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Hasami tall porcelain teapot with stainless strainer ("Formed from porcelain made from natural Amakusa pottery stones and mixed with potter's clay, the appeal of Hasami Porcelain lies in its tactile feel on your lips and in your hands. Compared to earthenware, this tea pot has a pulled-together, leanness to it; and it has a pleasant, gently organic texture than ordinary porcelain. Completely unadorned, its pure, clean lines echo the foundation of Japan's traditional shapes and forms. Its relevant contours are derived from the inevitability of function and its production process.") holds 17 oz, and is $72 at Jinen.

I’ve been awake since 3:30am, working, and what I most need to get through the rest of this day is intoxicants, but the closest I will get is a layering of Juniper Sling by Penhaligon’s with some China White by Nasomatto, because when you get up at 3:30am to work, you do cray cray.

    Gin and fauxcaine, amen.

    Fragonard Figuier, light, pleasant, summer-autumny

I want to check today again, because it was such a surprise yesterday that I thought I might have been daydreaming, but I saw an ad campaign for Givenchy’s L’interdit in bus stops. Relaunch? Reformulation and mass-ification?

Very reformulated and massified. Smelled in on the launch day at Bloomingdale’s — not good. Cloying, apple bomb, xerox of everything else being launched right now with a pinkish-beige-orange color.

    Hello All!

Especially sleepy today. It’s been probably our 7th day of rain and I’m over it. I guess it’s been cool at least, but enough is enough! We’re prone to flooding as it is.

I’m wearing Sun Moon Stars today. I’ve been having a mini Grojsman education this summer, after falling hard for Yvresse. SMS is lovely but perhaps a little bloodless. It reminds me a lot of her Kashaya by Kenzo, which I got a few months ago. Though Kashaya barely smells of anything, so maybe I’m missing something.

We have two Maine Coons over 20 lbs each, last time we had a tree several years ago, SmokeyToes had far too good a time playing and brought it crashing down at 2am. So unless we anchor it to the wall or hang it from the ceiling, Xmas trees are a no-go.

I acquired a bottle of Kashaya somewhere along the line (I might have been investigating the Kenzo range) and I agree – barely smells of anything. Still have that bottle somewhere. It might be in my “Take to the imaginary perfumista west coast get-together to distribute as freebies” box.

Ha, mine came from my phase of “What discontinued perfumes did Luca Turin mention in The Guide.” I absolutely adore the bottle so I keep pulling it out from time to time. Maybe my nose will figure it out one day.

Sun Moon Stars is one of the few frags I’ve seen in the thrift store (in Switzerland) – alas, didn’t know what it really was and priced fairly high, so didn’t take a closer look at it. But I’ve been wondering ever since, so thanks for the info!

It is very nice, though not worth a step price. And I believe it was reformulated when they moved it from the frosted bottle to the smooth bottle. Certainly no expert but worth knowing if you decide to try it!

I have what I believe may be an original Kashaya mini (the box is very elaborately textured and cut, seems espcially nice material). I can definitely smell it clearly, even just dabbing it from a mini. To me, it’s an odd mix of soapy aldehydes, woody, slight grape-y fruit, sweet and not sweet. I agree with coumarin that it smells like a nice body wash, which may have been unusual when it came out. I think I would have liked it better in the 90s than now. Would love to have the original bottle!

I am reminded that one of LT’s favorite scents is a particular Tide scent (spring fresh mountain something something).

I finally retried Fracas after all these years a few weeks ago. I found a mini of the parfum, and our is sublime. It really makes me wonder why brands still try to sell us subpar Fracas-alikes when the original is still around and taking names.

No actual fragrance today. I’m trying out a new body scrub/polish from Soap & Glory called The Greatest Scrub of All. It smelled great so I stuck with that. Feeling a tiny bit guilty cause I swiped it from a present I purchased for my niece ????. But she’ll have plenty to pick from in the gift bag. Totally vibing on Soap & Glory right now.

and perfumelover67 gets an enabler pin because I purchased a new bottle of Reglisse Noire.

Scentspirit- it was very easy for me to purchase on the 1000Flowers website. Also, I had a question for the perfumer (Jessica September Buchanan) and she personally got back to me.

For those of you interested in supporting a female indie perfumer I suggest you check out the website. I have owned all from the Original Collection (including two that were d/c) and adored them all and highly recommend this indie brand …no affiliation…just a huge fan….she is one of my all time favorite perfumers!

I *finally* thunked my tin of Tibetan Mountain Temple after ~3 years. Never smelled the spray version, but the solid version smells like Christmas to me- something about the the orange peels, gingerbread, and piney patchouli/vetiver combo. I blind-bought some of the Pacifica solids around the time I first fell down the rabbit hole (RIP Spanish Amber).

All that’s to say that you smell wonderful!

No SOTD yet, but today I opened a bar of Heno de Pravia soap. I found it at the grocery store on the clearance shelf for a dollar. It has a lovely, fresh cut hay scent – definitely one of my top bargains!

I love Cuban coffee sooo much. My former step-father was Cuban and he and his family gave me a love of all things Cuban, particularly the coffee, arroz con pollo, guava pastries, and plantains. His mother, we called her Tata which I think was a Cuban slang for grandma or something, was the BEST cook ever!

    SOTD- Catbird Tarot Deck

Thinking about the associations I have with perfume and this day. The first big bottle of perfume that I can remember buying for myself (that wasn’t from a catalog) was Hypnotic Poison from the Sephora in the WTC mall, which was of course destroyed not long after. A couple of years ago I tried Crabtree and Evelyn Iris. The first thing that came to mind was dust, and that is a big scent memory from “that day” so that was a no-go. Better irises did come along over time.

I think the Roger & Gallet is sweeter with some floral notes and more feminine in feel. The Fragonard is less sweet and feels a bit more masculine in comparison but I think both are unisex. I think this Roger & Gallet line is showing up now on strawberry net for around $50 for 100 ml which is to say almost free. ???? I also tried the R&G Tuberose hedonie and The Fantaisie from this line and they are both very good too.

I’m in Shalimar edp today which I love even more in fall than I usually do. It’s golden to me like the leaves and sun in fall.

Today is my “baby”‘s 19th birthday. I love him soooo much!

Wearing Tardes by Carner Barcelona today. It’s sweeter than I normally like, but I have found myself wearing my sample more than I initially expected I would. I had a cashier in a store compliment me on it and ask what it was, which doesn’t happen to me very often.

Sotd is Pomegranate Noir. My friend was gifted this and Peony and Blush Suede when she left her old job. She passed this one on to me because it didn’t work on her. I’m so glad she did. I smell wonderful. It’s perfect for the cooler temperatures. It is warming up a bit now though.

I’m feeling disquiet because of Hurricane Florence – school has been cancelled for the rest of the week, so I am not at work, and we’re in the “cone of uncertainty”, so I don’t know if I should expect 18+ inches of rain. We’re not directly on the coast, so no need to evacuate, but power failures and inconvenience is almost guaranteed.

At times like this, I always seem to crave L’Artisan fragrances. I wore Dzongka this morning and to yoga, and now I am wearing Bois Farine. Maybe this will be my theme for the week.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone still hurting from 9/11. Peace for everyone, please.

In Lavandes Trianon from the Lancome Grand Crus collection- I had smelled this only on the little perfume porcelain stopper thingie, swooned, ordered a decant, it’s nice, but perhaps not swoon-worthy for me. This one gets a poor, poor review in the new guide “sour lavender” and it’s weird, because what I have is not sour in the least nor lavender-ish.

This reminds me, I saw this line in 15 ml on the NM website, the description says 30ml but the picture is clearly 15ml. I called and told them. I don’t think they cared, last time I checked it was still misrepresented.

They are 15 ml and beautiful and adorable. Unfortunately when I took my trip into the city the SA would NOT give me samples. I think there are now 4 or 5 of them that are in the 15 ml sizes but I am not sure if the lavender one is one of them.

Thanks Johano ❤ My memory of that day(s) is quite vivid still. I was working at St Vincent’s Hospital in the West Village then, which was the closest trauma center and was set up for mass arrivals of the injured, but we didn’t get many admissions/survivors, unfortunately. The quiet nights I spent there were eery.

Yeah, there wasn’t much to do, pt. wise. I had one patient who was a 1st responder with a non-serious eye injury. The busy-ness was fielding calls at the nurse’s station from media asking for info.
What’s a male surgical ward? Is that like urological surgery?

Nice, quick visit with Elisa P. (Thank you again!) Then a few more spritzes of Twilly before meeting an old friend. I noticed as I was waiting for her that the cooler weather seemed to cause Twilly retain the ginger longer rather than go full-on tuberoise. In any case, my friend complimented me on it during our time together.

I hope you’re enjoying Cuir d’Ange today, Robin!

I’m wearing OJ Orris Noir. It may have eclipsed Woman as my favorite OJ. I used to think they were very similar, but I wore them side by side some months back and noticed their differences then. It might be that there’s a certain richness to Orris Noir that I don’t find in Woman. This may require another side by side evaluation soon. ????

SOTD = Kilian Woman in Gold

Lashings from my atomizer sample (still some left so no thunk) before dipping into the travel spray I got from eBay before the Travel Soray Set I got from one of the department stores. I smelled like I meant it! Woody vanilla tonka patch goodness and the aldehydes and citrus lift the entire thing to new heights ❣️

More on the unauthorized use of my credit card – I got a notice from Fedex that there was a delivery exception and the address used was a Walgreens in town addressed to me requiring a SOTD = Kilian Woman in Gold

More on the unauthorized use of my credit card. Today, I got an email from FedEx about a delivery exception. It included my name as addressee and the location was a Walgreens in town. The exception was it required a signature but no one signed for it. Hmmmm. The person knows my email address – not good (unless it is somehow tied to my credit card) but there had been no attempt to hack into my email. I called the credit card company with the tracking number so let’s see what other revelations this tidbit generates.
