Happy Almost-Friday! And I will be celebrating National Coffee Ice Cream Day and Read A Book Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Christian Lacroix Tumulte Pour Homme. I was going to save it until Friday, but Bear was talking about it yesterday so I moved it up. Maybe I'll wear it again tomorrow.
Reminder: on 9/7, wear a fragrance with cedar, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Christian Lacroix Love Who You Want porcelain dessert plates are $180 for the 4, at Maison 24.
Good morning all!
Just speeding out the door to work, wearing some vintage Nu. I don’t know if it contains cedar (probably not) but it smells like it could? Anyway, I love it, and the bottle, and finding it was a real treat.
You smell great! I love Nu EDP and also adore my funny hockey puck bottle. It could very easily fit in to a top 10 of fall or winter list.
I’ve been hunting down a lot of the weird-sprayer bottles of the 90’s and Nu is so far my favorite bottle. I love the scent too, but it becomes very soft on me.
Two scents with cedar for me today.
Frist I finished my sample of Oh, ooOoh …oh. It’s a nice scent: woods, smoke, bitter herbs. But there is one dirty note I dislike, plus the projection is minimal.
So after about three hours I put on Narciso EDP. Can’t complain about projection of this one!
Oh, and PSA:
Lush UK released ten limited edition body lotions. I ordered Lord of Misrule and Avocado No Wash.
Ah, off to look!
Mmm, White Cube! You smell great!
Thanks! Yesterday you inspired me to wear it.
Wearing TDC Sel de Vetiver. Refreshing and invigorating for another hot, muggy day outside. Looking forward to the weekend anxiously. I really need some rest!
Hope you get your rest soon.
Hope so too!
Hang in there! It’s cool here today, maybe it will head your way tomorrow.
Crossing fingers! We need a brief relief!
Just pulled up the 5-day forecast for my area. The cool down is supposed to start tomorrow, then it really picks up for the weekend. Maybe you will get the same?
That’s what our weather forecast also shows. Hoping for the best!
Today is my crazy monkey’s first day of preschool.
National coffee ice cream day…hmm..I am still trying to figure out my new espresso machine..
Read a book day..I am waiting (237 on the NYPLibrary) for Micheal Ondaatje’s new book. So I am catching up on my New Yorker magazines.
Have a great day crazy monkey! ????????
Hope crazy monkey has a wonderful day!!
I am just finishing up the June 25 issue, ha! Not a good year for keeping up with NYer.
wow! you win
I forgot I wanted to ask an opinion for a party perfume. I am attending a party tomorrow and wearing a cocktail dress. I want to wear something that will last and last..and is a bit sexy since I will be with Mr. L.
I had some thoughts: Coco, La Fille De Berlin, Insolence or Tenue de Soiree? Any of these sound good?
What is your dress like? Colour? Venue?
This is my dress https://www.blueberries-online.com/women-c1/ted-baker-womens-kairra-kyoto-gardens-bow-neck-dress-blue-p28444
(no affiliation to Mr Baker)
The venue is outside..
I vote for Coco with that dress since it has an Asian flair to it and Coco reminds me of black lacquered screens and chests.
I agree with Sapphire. And what a beautiful dress!
What about Songes or Samsara?
That is a good suggestion
I also thought of 31 RC but it doesn’t have much longevity or sillage on me.
My choice for your event would be either Songes or Samsara.
I hope crazy monkey loves preschool!
She came home happy
Wait ’til she finds out she has to go again tomorrow! ????
And Samsara for sexy. Works for me! ????????????????
Samsara gets 2 votes ????
Oh, Bear. She’s not cynical yet ????
Hooray for the crazy monkey!
aw, hope day 1 of preschool was good for monkey and mama!
SotD = l’air du desert marocain
Woke up thinking of this scent. I love it when that happens, makes the whole day feel dreamy. And laddm has cedar in spades.
LOVE those plates and their sentiment. In my family we joke the giraffe is my daughter’s spirit animal. She was obsessed with giraffes as a little kid. We read books, watched videos, went to the zoo to see them, even feed them. And she’s always had long legs too. Lucky girl.
You smell wonderful today!
thank you, Nancyleandros!
laddm lives up to the hype for me.
I hear so much about this scent, is there a place in NYC where they sell Tauer perfumes? I just hate paying for the samples on luckyscent, but I’m getting curious about the brand in general so I might have to order a few.
Twisted Lily in Bklyn carries them.
You smell wonderful and I love this story about your daughter. So cute.
thanks, madtowngirl, honestly I was glad my daughter was into giraffes instead of something pink/purple/sparkly, lol. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
I’ve never noticed cedar in LAdDM. It’s smoke, spice, and incense for me. I’ll pay more attention the next time I wear it.
yah, I think laddm reads differently depending on the phases moon or something. I only get the incense feeling sometimes, and never smoke.
You smell gorgeous. My mom has a ridiculous collection of giraffes – I hope she never sees those plates!
Glad to know my daughter is not the only giraffe lover around, they are a rare breed.
I would be tempted to buy the giraffe plate solo, but as a set it’s a no. Money saved.
I’m in Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia, which has a lovely, light cedar note in its base. Plus, it’s a good choice for the warm, slightly muggy weather we’re having here. Happy Friday Eve, folks!
So pretty. You smell good SheriG! EdM is on my radar for next spring.
Thanks Petunia! It is an excellent scent for spring, for sure.
This is one of my favorite FMs! I never thought of it as having a cedar note, now I have wear it again and try to suss it out . . .
Do! It’s surprising how, once I identified the note, I couldn’t NOT smell it anymore.
You smell great! I wore it a lot this season-may even finish my travel spray soon ????
Oh no, not a thunk!? It’s really a lovely scent, for nearly any season.
True, I like some fresher florals in cold weather. I have about 5ml left and I can see replacing it since it is pretty versatile.
Ooh, I love coffee ice cream and reading, right up my alley! I’m wearing Dans Tes Bras body butter. Still humid but at least the temps have dropped to 23C/ low seventies F.
Me too, and I have some Graeter’s mocha chip waiting in the freezer
Hey, that’s MY favorite! I suspected someone was eating all of mine, it couldn’t have been just me
Ha…my husband sneaks in and eats my ice cream, but he has a distinctive eating-out-of-the-container pattern so I *always* know.
I’m wearing Byredo’s Rodeo…absolutely stunning and perfect for early fall
Wow, forgot about that one! Glad it is stunning.
I think it is easy to forget, as it is only available in the NYC Byredo boutique
I had a friend to buy it for me, who was in NYC last week
I like that it is not a flowery perfume, tho there is violets in it. But it’s morte earthy.
Another good thing is that it lasts for hours on me…I have heard that people complain about Byredo’s perfumes lasting power..so it’s a good thing
(I also have Gypsy Water and it lasts a long time on me as well..maybe my skin just agrees with their lasting power? Usually my skin eats perfume like crazy..mmmh..
Still forgetting to pick something with cedar, but loving the magnificent green chypre Mito VdP today.
It’s almost making feel better about how swimming is making my rosacea go absolutely nuts. I look and feel like I have hot blisters on my cheekbones. Ugh. Stupid hormones–I never had rosacea until menopause kicked off its early nonsense.
Rosacea is a PITA. Vero’s perfumes make my heart go Pitter-Patter and my debit card scream out loud in fright. You smell superb!
isn’t it? Even if i cover up the redness with a pile of concealer it’s still bumpy too… grr!
Agree entirely on Vero’s perfumes. And… i just got a 10ml decant of the Onda voile in the post today. So pleased!
Oh oh oh! So happy you Onda VdE! Totally swoon worthy! I hope you enjoy every last drop! ????????
You smell fantastic!!!! I LOVE Mito, but unfortunately can’t wear it- my skin is burning when I spray it on
oh no! Can you wear it on fabric? It seems to be just as lovely if I wear it on a scarf as on my skin.
I am afraid it will stain the fabric, as Mito left dark brown stains on my arms. I only have about 3-4 mls left, so I am thinking about spraying it on handherchief and sniffing it. Ha, what a picture!
Sorry for rosacea you have to deal with. Have you tried searching for relief on makeupalley skin care board?
Not yet .. off to look now. Thanks!
P.s. The handkerchief? Fabulously old school!
Ugh, so sorry about the rosacea… I have a mild case. Oddly enough, the thing that makes it flare the worst is Greek-style yogurt. I have found salicylic acid helps…
Need to smell Mito. Green chypre sounds fab.
Interesting about the yoghurt! Thanks for the salicylic acid reminder… I used to have some toner with that, but ran out and then forgot about it. Oops!
If you get a chance to try Mito, I hope you love it as much as I do. (the only one of Vero’s that desn’t do it for me is Rubj. All the other voiles make my heart sing.)
Too bad that there isn’t something you could put on your cheeks before swimming to protect them from the pool water.
Oh, why did that not occur to me? Sometimes not so bright…
To jalapeno’s point, maybe you can put something on your cheeks before swimming. Some petroleum jelly or maybe Cerave cream – nothing pore clogging.
Good suggestions, thanks! I shall experiment… I wonder if lanolin might be worth a try too as long as I remove it afterwards.
I have to have a set of those plates. I wonder if they will ever go on 90% off.
I’m in Byron Parfums Mula Mula. I really love this but think it will be better in fall/winter. I detect slight, ever so slight, similarities to Aura which is fine with me.
This Week is moving fast.
They are also sold individually if that helps. There are also adorable porcelain boxes, and coasters…you can see the whole collection here:
Thank you so much for the info!
I’ve also occasionally seen Christian LaCroix notebooks and other paper products in similar patterns. First was an airport kiosk a couple of years ago, and on Amazon around the same time. Don’t know if there’s anything out there now, but worth a search.
I recently got a small notebook on Amazon. I think I read in WWD he sold the trademark and has nothing to do with the company. ????
That always seems so misleading, doesn’t it? But it’s the norm, I think.
I think it is the norm, right!
oh no! gulp, I’m averting my eyes.
Good morning all!
SOTD is Fendi extrait.
Smoothie is almond/banana/kefir.
Run Run Run out the door!
Ooo, I’ve never smelled the extrait but I’m sure it’s heaven.
Thanks Coumarin ~ I am wafting spices and resins, the floriental stage comes next.
Today we are back to officially stupid hot here in NE Canada – Feels like 37 C!!
Wearing Prada Infusions d”Oranger – the older version. OB and skank on me.
I tested Puredistance Opardu last night though – very prominent pencil shavings smell from the ceder in this one.
That was Montreal yesterday – 41 with the humidex! Relief has come today, hope it gets to you by tomorrow!
Knock me over with a feather! I swear I must be anosmic to cedar since I don’t smell it at all!
No pencil shavings for me either. Just an opulent floral.
It’s Lacroix redux, sweetie! ????????
????????Excellent, Robin! ????????
I said it before, but I’ll repeat.
Like ice cream.
Don’t like coffee ice cream.
Go Super Bowl Champion Eagles! ????????????????????
I need to try the Lacroix. ????
Coffee ice cream is yummy!!!! Although if I had between it and actual coffee, my morning coffee would win every time!
I bumped into this short article a while ago, where Lacroix talks about the series ????
That always cracked me up on the show.
???? I like how the marketing people discouraged him from participating, and he was able to be self-deprecating, self-aware, and gracious. ????
The world could use a LOT more of that! ????????????????✌
Loved reading that, thanks!
Bear, do you take your coffee with cream and/or sugar, or not?
Love the contrast of a glazed doughnut or biscotti with strong, bitter coffee.
Hmmmm, haven’t had a doughnut since winter, maybe next week. ????????????????????????
OK, then it makes sense that you wouldn’t care for coffee ice cream. I like the idea of that contrast but can’t take much bitterness in reality. More for YOU!
Would a coffee-flavored milkshake or malted also be a “Nope”?
Yes, milkshakes MUST be vanilla.
BUT, chocolate frosting should have strong coffee added. So I suppose, actually it is mocha frosting.
I’m in the Elephant again and smelling fine! Hope everyone has a great Almost Friday Day ✌????
You smell freaking fantastic! ????
I’m in Tempo today, and liking this smooth, easy patchouli. Dabbed a little Shiseido FdB from a tiny but prized dabber bottle for CP points.
Braving the muggies for a morning walk. I’m really REALLY ready for cooler weather. November, where art thou?!?
I posted below about not being a cedar fan, but you reminded me of how much I like many of SL’s Bois scents. I guess I mostly don’t like the more astringent-type cedars?
I know what you mean. Tempo in the second ten minutes is much nicer than the first ten minutes. There’s a little burst of camphor at the start, but it smooths out fairly quickly.
I could try and send you some of our weather. 71 and breezy today. I love it!
Now if it would just stay this way! By November we will be cold.☹️
Oh, I would love a bit of your weather! I’ll turn the ceiling fan on, close my eyes and dream of cool breezes. ????
Tempo is a great “summerweight” patch, isn’t it? I’m curious to see how my sample/decant will smell when Fall weather arrives.
I like it too…do you get a little hit of camphor in the first few minutes? It doesn’t last long, though.
Yes I do. I don’t mind that. It’s oddly comforting to me.
No cedar for me. Will be a long day of work at the office and flights to Alabama this evening. I sprayed At the Beach 1966 to trick myself into thinking I’m relaxing on a beach. It’s working thus far. It does have driftwood, though, so there’s that. I did pack a few things to chose from to participate tomorrow.
I doubt I’ll celebrate with any coffee ice cream today unless I can find some at DFW. I will, however, be reading a book today!
I hope your day goes quickly and you have a safe trip to see the kiddos!
Love, love, love At the Beach 1966.
Safe travels, and enjoy your time with your son!! Has the hurricane affected where you are traveling to?
I don’t think so other than rain. I’m not the best flyer in the world and it looks rainy from NM to AL. I’m hoping we have a good pilot who can steer around most of the storms and not have any delays.
I will be thinking good thoughts for you KellyC!!
Safe travels KellyC. Enjoy the time with your son!
Good luck with your flight KellyC! ✈
Well off to a bad start. My flight has been cancelled from Albuquerque to Dallas. So I won’t make it tonight. ????
Oh dang it!
Well they got me on another airline so I will make it tonight, just several hours later!
Booo! So sorry! But, yay that you got another flight!
That’s a bummer. Hope you won’t get in ridiculously late.
Have a great trip!
Enjoy your trip, KellyC!
Reading one of those twitter question memes that makes the rounds:
“What 5 items would someone put in a salt circle to summon you
“Mine are chocolate covered cashews, indie perfume samples, a historical romance book, a fall-themed candle, and a cardigan.”
That could result in a very crowded circle, with plenty of NST friends!
In this case, it was @hwhittenwrites, whose tweet was boosted by a reply from J.K. Rowling (no perfume in her answer).
I love your answers!!!
LOLOL. Mine would be a bottle of BoE, my iPad, bar of milk chocolate, chapstick and grape PEZ.
ha, it’s so strange that when I see BoE my brain reads Bois des Iles.
lip balm and chocolate for me too.
My brain does the same thing. ????
I doubled up on Eau des Merveilles with the lotion and the perfume. I needed something relaxing and comfortable today, as we finally threw in the towel on the potty training adventure. I lost (spectacularly) a battle of wills with a two year old. We’ll have to try again once we’ve all calmed down, which might be several months
Sorry to hear about the potty training! We waited until my daughter was nearly 3 (I say “waited” but in reality she refused to sit on the potty) and tried what they call commando potty training, which worked like a charm. We were done in three days, though it was a long three days . . .
I did the commando method too at 2 years and it worked although yes it was bad while it lasted
We tried the same method; I had no idea a two-year-old could hold in his pee for four hours.
Wow! That’s stubborn, esp. since a child who can hold it that long is definitely ready to use the potty. Good luck!
Oh, they can go even longer. Surprised I still remember that but I do.
So sorry….no experience with that. I do remember my sister’s battle of wills with my niece. It finally came down to my sister saying “no dresses” until she got out of diapers. (My niece liked to dress like Alice in Wonderland). My niece came to a decision fairly quickly.
I find people’s memories of when they were potty trained themselves or when they successfully trained their now older children get seriously distorted over time (kind of like how the fish you caught that one time gets bigger and bigger with each passing year). So when others tell you that their child or they themselves were potty trained at 18 months, I think you want to add at least 7 months to that number, more if the parent is particularly righteous… When kids are ready, they are ready. Before then – forget it. Easier said then done, I know!
I know, I was trying to do it on my schedule rather than his since I am having another baby in January. I am reminding myself that everyone masters this skill eventually!
Scent twin, although without the lotion. I have no experience with potty training except when I learned the skill, so I have no advice. But you smell gorgeous and I know your son will eventually come around.
Oooh, love those plates!
Not a big cedar fan – I think the only cedar-forward scent I love is Tam Dao, which is put away at the moment. Went with Assam of India – I’m really enjoying my Berdoues sample set, the scents are nice in the lingering September heat.
Assam is very refreshing in the heat- you smell great!
I’ll actually be putting up a bottle of Tumulte Pour Homme for swap this weekend. It’s been languishing in my get-rid-of box for years because I originally intended to sell it in eBay. But I hate selling on eBay, so I’ve basically forgotten about it. Hopefully someone who loves it will want some more!
I’m smelling much better today in Terre d’Hermes. It’s so enjoyable. Another I should wear more often.
Last night when I got home, I gave myself generous sprays from my Shiseido Feminite du Bois bottle to make up for a disappointing scent of the day. I just love that stuff!
Great choice with the Hermes. You smell wonderful and classics. ????
My husband actually gave me his big bottle of Terre and kept the small companion bottle that he got with his purchase for himself.
I was using it way more often than him!
The real-feel temp in my area today is 101 so I’m not feeling cedar. SOTD is Cristalle. Temps should be dropping tomorrow just in time to participate.
Hey house twin!
Edt or edp? I love edt in the heat, it is very refreshing.
I have the EDP but it is vintage lovely and mossy.
That’s good stuff. You smell lovely!
I have never tried vintage Cristalle, I can only imagine how great it is. Enjoy!
Real Feel temperature twins and scent siblings! ???? I’m in Cristalle EdT.
Le Labo Baie Rose 26 from a sample I acquired yesterday to replace the one I gave to a friend last year. I really like this one. I debated the basil sesame shower gel which smells sooo good, but decided I have enough shower things for now.
While waiting to be rung up, a young woman (20s?) and her boyfriend were waiting for her purchase to be labeled and done up. When the SA rang it up and said “That’ll be $280(+)” she looked like she was going to pass out. She bought a liquid balm of one of the city ones and something else and thought the city price was the same as the standard lineup. Her boyfriend hesitantly handed over his credit card. I felt kinda sorry for her. I guess the pressure of the whole special label and pomp and circumstance made her feel like it was too late to back out? The SA wasn’t pressuring either. They’re super nice and easy going in the Bklyn store. Anyway, I was disappointed there was nothing new to smell this year.
Just curious if you have ever tried Heeley’s Hippie Rose.
A long while ago at MIN when they carried it. I remember liking it at the time but can’tquite conjures it now. Is it similar?
I actually find the Le Labo somewhat similar to Penhaligon’s Elixir.
I have tried Hippie Rose, it’s lovely but too faint and fleeting on me to be FBW.
that poor couple!
I know! They didn’t really look like it was no big deal.
Oh…my heart goes out to them. Puts a bitter edge in the excitement. Hope they recover quickly.
Yeah, but then again, they may make a lot more than I do. I’m just assuming. Another young, well dressed late 20s/early 30s, was buying 2 bottles of city exclusives! Some kids are doing well these days, I guess. Or their parent are. OR they think they’re going to live forever but never get old ????
So true. I love commenting to my husband on prices of things I see women wearing or carrying. We were walking behind a woman the other day and I pointed out her purse to my husband. Said that bag is over $3000. He was stunned.
Le Labo is sooo overpriced, but they market to young people; not something that is clear to me, but, apparently, it works.
I actually asked the other young woman who bought the 2 city bottles what else she likes to wear. She has a Byredo and TF F-ing Fabulous which she thinks are super edgy and unique (her words).
So, yes, it’s working.
Like a charm, apparently. I’m so glad to be old and not care about edgy anymore.
I’m “old school” rather than “old” (I think) and it’s pretty rare for me to get excited by fragrances that have been around for less than about 30 or 40 years. Quirky, I know. (I still write on PAPER with FOUNTAIN PENS.)
I love the Baie Rose 26. Still debating buying the 15 ml bottle before the end of September.
It is lovely. I spritzed a bit of the Penhaligon’s Elixir for comparison when I got home. Similar feel and almost smell, but I like the BR better ????
Can you just get one of those?
Yikes, sticker shock! If the price was different than I thought, I would have said sorry, I was under the impression it was x and I am not prepared to spend that.
This is easy: Iunx Splash Forte, which not only has red cedar and “fiery” spices, but also a beautiful cedar-red color.
This is one of several lines that I regret LT and TS were unable to cover in their 2018 book. I also wish they had reviewed the Bottega Veneta Palladiano series, Thierry Mugler Les Exceptions, the most recent Jean Patou recreations, the Cire Trudon Perfumes, and Aftelier.
I could probably think of more, and it’s just one more indicator of the overload perfume lovers face these days that they could fill an entire book with short reviews (really two, when you consider there’s almost no overlap with their previous book), include so many brands I hadn’t even heard of, and yet there are still these (to me) major omissions — and it’s inescapable.
I think I read – in the guide or perhaps in a Basenotes discussion of the book – that they basically reviewed samples of houses that were willing to send them samples or sent them samples unsolicited. So perhaps some houses deliberately chose not do that?
Access to samples must be part of it, at least. They do thank a couple of stores they spent time in, although that could have been an initial screening, I guess.
Iunx is hard to get, and I haven’t found Palladiano samples from my usual sources, although it would be easy to sniff at a big shopping center near me, I think.
Aftelier samples are so easy to get at a reasonable price!
You smell great!
Thanks! Have you tried any others from Iunx that you would recommend?
Of course! (if I had to live with only one perfume house for the rest of my life, it would be IUNX, and I could easily do it I have the huge bottle of L’Ether, Eau Blanche, and Eau Frappe, and small bottles of Eau Qui Pique and Eau Argentine. +Have tried Eau Baptiste, Sento, Splash Forte and l’Arbre. All of them are fantastic, but if I had to recommend only one, it would probably be Eau Argentine. And this is just because Argentine seems most clearly distinct from any other widely available fragrance by Giacobetti. But again, if you love Giacobetti and have someone going to Paris to fetch you a small bottle/travel (20ml), I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them. Just make sure not to buy only refills without getting the black plastic case (as you cannot spray from a refill bottle on its own). P.S. I should mention that I live in SoCa, and maybe for you people living in colder climates this stuff is too light, that I cannot tell.
And what would you recommend from Bottega Veneta Palladiano series?
I’ve got to find time to read peoples SotD to get cedar ideas. I know I have some, but it’s been so hot I’ve been in other territory. Today Purple Fig, which is refreshing and delicious. I’ve also been loving 19-69 Capri, which I wore Tuesday and about which I haven’t read much. Dryad was yesterday. I really adore it and am worried it will change and that I should stockpile, but I know this is crazy!
Happy almost end of the week to everyone!
Woo hoo. I think it wil be No.19 EDT for me — see plyushka’s comment right below yours.
Chanel 19 edt for me today, because I missed it Oh, and it has a cedar note at the base, but luckily I don’t detect it, as I am not a big fan of cedar.
Off to the grocery store to get some produce and yes, I added coffee ice cream to the list
You smell so wonderful!
Oh, thank you! Chanel 19 is one of my favorite perfumes.
Hmmm, you may just have saved the day for my Friday SOTD. I have a few candidates but No.19 EDT is the most appealing.
We will be twins!
Wearing Sadanne, and feeling plate envy for the first time in my life!
Plate envy, ha!
Thanks to nastywoman and others this week, I pulled out Eau de Merveille today. I overlook this one too much…loved it at first sniff but didn’t buy it till a few years later.
Those plates are absolutely gorgeous. Sent me right to eBay and the Gien site because they often have some lovely designs. Just looking….
Forgot to mention I used to be obsessed with Haagen Das Coffee ice cream. Still love it…
It used to be my #1 ice cream. Have you tried Java Chip by Haagen Dazs? I cannot seem to find it in stores anymore. I wonder if it was a limited edition… Better than their Coffee Ice Cream, IMHO.
I love EdM. I may spray it at the duty free shop if the ATB 1966 wears off lol. You smell great!
Gien does some great patterns.
I’m wearing Clive Christian 1872. It has a pronounced cedar note that I had forgotten since I haven’t worn it in ages.
SOTD = Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay
I stole the idea from KellyC -?thank you. I actually don’t smell any cedar but what do I know? Lovely scent with poor longevity; I probably could have added at least 3 more sprays without gassing out anyone!
Commuting Woes No. 453:
Guy speaking at the top of his lungs into his cell phone: Every time he wanted to emphasize something (every 2 seconds), he banged his hand on the seat handle. The guy sitting next to me was too cowardly to say anything so I politely asked the guy to stop banging the seat. The first reaction was, what do you mean banging the seat and I just looked down where his hand was as he emphasized his question. OH, THAT! He stopped but really, how could he have been so oblivious? I suspect he wasn’t really talking to anyone and just merely posturing to sound important!
We were twins this morning. I just love it that you don’t put up with other people’s rudeness! ????
I have to pick my bottles but a calm tone works better than an irritated one. Sadly, calm doesn’t always work.
Honestly I didn’t smell any either, but it’s listed in the notes so I went with it. Regardless you smell great!
A few flights ago, every time the man behind me would stand up for something he would pull on my seat back to hoist himself up. He was a really big guy and so it would yank me back a good bit every single time. I finally said, “Will you PLEASE quit pulling on my seat when you get up?” He looked perplexed but didn’t do it again lol.
At least he stopped! This summer during 8 hour flight the guy that was seating behind me did the very same thing, only he was getting up almost every half hour. When I reached the boiling point I kindly asked him not to pull the back of my seat. His response: ” No I won’t stop! I have health issues!” He was tall 30 + years old very fit man. To top it off, his kids were very noisy and kept arguing and screaming at each other.
What a jerk. I bet he would be the first one to complain if other people’s kids were the ones being noisy. I hope you reclined your seat all the way back.
Ugh, but at least he stopped!
Mr. Jalapeno occasionally does the banging on his seat thing when he gets excited talking about something. He had the same surprised reaction when I told him to knock it off! I do think that guys CAN be that oblivious.
And this worries me in general when I’m driving. How many drivers end up getting “into the zone” and end up driving obliviously.
Mr. Jalapeno’s seat banging only seems to happen on people’s couches. It doesn’t make it any less annoying, though.
It never hurts to be extra vigilant when driving!! ????
I thought of you this morning as I was very annoyed by a woman eating a bag of chips (8am in the morning, mind you) and when she was done she kept folding and unfolding the bag so that we listened to this crinkle/crackle sound for the remainder of the trip. She had her headset on and so she was clueless about the noise. I was sitting 3 seats down from her but it still was bothersome. I leaned over and looked at her a few times but her eyes were closed the whole trip.
Blackberry & Bay is very pretty but has pathetic staying power.
Aaargh! When I complain about annoying noises, the I frequently get a response that I should drown it out by listening to music myself to which I say no because I need to be alert to potential danger.
The worst are the cyclist with earphones in. I saw a pregnant hipster with no helmet and earphones in riding in the street here recently. So cringe worthy.
That ranks up there with skateboarders using headphones and rolling down the middle of the street. Just saw that earlier today.
Aaaargh!! I feel your pain. I sat beside someone who did that every day. I was across a very thin, short wall from him; i heard every ‘crinkle crinkle crunch crunch crunch’. I finally had to complain and it was solved somewhat with a bowl.
H- people talking loudly on their cell phones in public – ESPECIALLY crowded or close quarters areas makes me incensed!! It is a real pet peeve of mine that I find inexcusably rude.
Those plates are really nice but I don’t want any more things to dust. I pared down all the knickknacks and tabletop items in the Great Purge of 2014.
Today I’m wearing Un Bois Vanille. I put on a lot before I remembered I have chorus rehearsal tonight and they are vehemently anti-scent. (No dryer sheets! No scented shampoo!) I’ll have to change my shirt before going. Sometimes I feel like being provocative and testing them with, say, a leather scent and wearing a leather jacket too. I wonder if anyone would say anything or if they would assume it’s the jacket.
I sometimes do the same thing in my choir, which has the same policy, which is mostly violated (not on purpose) by people forgetting about their hair products. I’m really good when we have dress rehearsals and so on, but on regular rehearsal days, I sneak in under the radar scents sometimes. Tried Au Coeur du desert this past Tuesday and it was a quite a bit stronger than I anticipated, oops! Lesson learned.
Do they also regulate the foods you eat before rehearsal? Some could be quite pungent!
The odd thing is that the scent of leather (jacket) is from chemicals, but wouldn’t be seen as coming in scented? I’m all for sensitivity, but sometimes the logic seems selective and fuzzy.
In commando still – came here to get inspired, will now look for Tam Dao which I got a sample of in the freebie meet (thanks!!). Looking forward to the swap meet – a bit of wheeling and dealing is a nice stress relief for me!
I just got a sample of tam dao this week. I tried a dab last night and really liked it. Hope you do, too
Coffee flavored ice cream is my favorite! Our university makes a flavor called mocha macchiato that I thought was my absolute fav, but last weekend I had a scoop of Cappuccino Oreo and that won me over.
SotD is Eau Premiere on one arm and L’ Eau on the other. Trying to decide which one I like the best….
You smell so good. Curious which you decide you prefer…
do report back on which you like
Cappuccino Oreo is my kind of flavor. Yum!
Eau Premiere, hands down for me.
Looking forward to your assessment!
Oreos, like bacon, make everything better!
Today is Bulgari Jasmin Noir EDP. I actually like that this is relatively light, good for summer.
I really like Jasmin Noir too.
Yay, and it doesn’t hurt that this stuff is not expensive either (at least not now that they discontinued it).
Friday…yay! JM whisky and cedarwood. Okay but not very exciting. Tonight I am going to an exhibition celebrating 60 years of the university writing ‘fellows’ i.e. Writers in residence so there will be displays of our books, photos and a lot of the living authors have been flown in. It will be fun and an opportunity to break out the fake fur. I watched the film The Wife last weekend and have just read John Boyne’s A Ladder to the Sky – both about novelists stealing stories/ taking the credit for another’s work. The scene here is tame by comparison with no raging Glenn Close in sight. I was given a sample of JM honeysuckle last weekend but it didn’t make much impression. Will wear Debaser tonight which brings to mind the wet-lushness of Pulp and Philosokos
I am willing the temperature to fall so I can break out the leopard spots again.
Hope you have a wonderful evening–that sounds like it could be a fantastic event.
I think fake fur is like perfume in that you should wear it every day
Sounds like a fun event.
By the way, have you heard from Waterdragon and is she doing OK?
She was fine the last time I heard from her – but very busy with work.
Good to hear from you, Kanuka!
Hello to you, too!
This morning I wore Blackberry and Bay, but wasn’t really feeling it. Now I’m wearing Grand Soir to work. I love this one so much. Definitely fb worthy for me.
Ohhh, I haven’t sniffed that one. We like a lot of the same things, I’ll have to give it a shot!
It is lovely. On my someday list. You are right, we do have similar taste.
Today I am wishing for 5 or 6 weeks of perfect Fall weather… temps between 62 and 74 degrees F, and sunny skies. ????????????
My air conditioning broke down last week, so I’m actually thankful for the cool down. If only fall wasn’t followed by winter!
Oh no! That’s terrible! I hope you do get a few weeks of perfect Fall weather too.
Ah, wouldn’t that be lovely!!!
Grand Spur is excellence!
???? I meant Grand Soir, not Grand Spur!
Eh! I also wanted to be cute and say “excellente” — foiled again by auto-correct!
Ha! I knew what you meant????
lillyjo, just curious…what current perfumes are on your top 5 wish list FBs?
Well you already know my no. 1 is still Cuir Impertinent, then Oriental Express and Wonder Bouquet. The top two non Muglers are Black Jade and Bottega Veneta.
SotD is Arso
I am back home, but by wearing this scent helps to keep the memory of the Black Forest alive…and it is community project proof ????
Question for the perfume mind-hive: I want to gift a friend a bottle of perfume. She loved Gucci Bloom when we visited Sephora and took mental note but I think she may have bought a bottle. Any suggestions for something similar?
Hmmmmm… the first thing that comes to my mind is SL A la Nuit, but that is not cheap. It’s also not a safe blind buy… needs to be sniffed first!
I need to stay in the same price bracket as the Bloom but thanks for the suggestion!
Does your Sephora carry the new Bloom flanker? That might be an idea. I have not smelled the new one though.
That’s a good one too!
Just adding the green Bloom smells most like the original imo, the black one is very different.
That was my vote, or the Bloom body lotion and/or shower gel — which also have nice packaging.
Shiseido Ever Bloom is a pretty, safe floral and not too expensive.
How about VC&A’s California Reverie?
My daughter bought Bloom and loved Reverie when i bought it for her. It’s lovely and safe!!
Lalique Encre Noire for me today. Gorgeous vetiver! I need to compare this to Sycamore sometime soon.
Just stepped outside to get a coffee and nearly fainted. The heat and humidity are off the charts today. Back in the office and fridged temps I’m happy to have gotten my hot cappuccino.
Great choice. ????
It’s horrid out there. Vetiver is a good choice in this weather.
Right?! I hadn’t been out since early in the morn. so it was a shock to walk into that “wall” of heat.
Yuck! I got the wall this morning already!
Today was supposed to be the worst of it.
Happy Almost-Friday NST!
I had a “Yikes” moment stepping into my shower this morning; had a creepy crawler in there! I did not have my glasses on, so I could not tell what it was. I did not care! I grabbed some TP and took care of the intruder. I hope that won’t happen again anytime soon! YUK!
SOTD = Cristalle EdT, from the sample stash. I think a couple of people mentioned wearing this earlier in the week. So “Thank You” for the perfume inspiration.
Ewww! Hopefully it will not happen anymore!
You smell fantastic!
Yeah, that little event prompted a scream from me!
I hate creepy crawlers. I sometimes use the hand-held vacuum cleaner and hope I’ve either frightened it to death or it gets tangled in the dust / hairball and eventually suffocates.
Said creepy crawler ended up getting flushed. I think it might have been a silverfish, which are utterly gross in my book.
It’s the worst to be surprised when you’re not wearing glasses. It’s such a vulnerable time.
Yeah, it sucks.
It just ruins the whole shower experience!
I have some really nice shower gel, so that helped. So did running the water for a minute to wash away any residual “Ick!”.
I always feel the spider/silverfish/centipede is shouting out to its brethren as I squoooosh it, warning of the danger of me !!! LOLOLOL ????????????????????????????
I knew that the cats weren’t going to take care of it! They only chase flying bugs. ????????????
Hello ☺ I am checking in from Beaune, France. We started in London, then Paris and now Beaune. We have been going non-stop, and today is the first day I’ve had time to post. Whew!
I am wearing Guerlain Herba Fresca after a warm shower and am going to bed at a reasonable time .
I’m not familiar with Beaune but after looking it up wow! I want to visit. So beautiful. Enjoy your trip!
Wow indeed! I hope you’re enjoying some of that wine.
I’m wearing Eau des Merveilles today. I think this is the first community challenge that I’ve been able to do a week from full bottles.
I picked up my new glasses today – my first pair of “progressives”, which I think of as bifocals. (Although apparently they’re decafocals.). These are definitely going to take some time to get used to. Is a headache for 3 weeks worth a bottle of sympathy perfume?
Yes, absolutely worth a sympathy bottle – TWO, if the headache goes on much longer.
Ugh — 3 weeks of headaches?!? Oh yeah. If you’ve got a splurge on your wishlist go for that.
It took me even longer, hang in there! And yes, it probably rates 2 bottles.
