That's it for August, so don't forget your rabbits tomorrow! And happy Fabric Friday. Our community project for today: wear a perfume named for some type of clothing or fabric, OR wear a scent you associate with a certain kind of clothing or fabric, OR wear a perfume with a fabric-related note (suede, cotton, etc). Thanks to Glannys for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Zero points for me this week! I'm packing to go home, and when I get there late afternoon I might find something that fits and put it on and report back. Meantime, I'm in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil body lotion, again.
Reminder: on 9/7, Wear a fragrance with cedar, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Egoiste Chanel EDT
Levis flannel shirt Adidas
????????????
Flannel! I’m envious, longing for crisp fall weather here. Le sigh.
I second the motion. So sick of dressing like a castaway.
Sleeves rolled up, but still. ????????
Love Egoiste, you smell great, Bear.
????Thanks ringthing.
Really can’t get better than Levis, flannel and Chanel ????✌
Thanks lillyjo!
How leather is the Alien Cuir? That is one of the flankers I never smelled. ????????
And I’m sure you smell great! ????⚾
Honestly, I don’t smell much leather. What I like about it, is how smooth it is. It’s seamless, if that makes sense. It’s also has a depth that the original doesn’t have. I think this one and the taste of fragrance one are my favorites.
Thanks ! The original sometimes is too soliflore, the jasmine drowns out all the other notes. ????????????????????????????????????
You schmell mahvelous! I love the 1990 commercial associated with Egoiste.
https://youtu.be/UBd19R_5ysE
Love the commercial. ????
Great, isn’t it?
Thanks ! ????????
Perfect ensemble for Egoiste!!
Again a moment where I would love to smell you up close…hehe!
✌????????☺️❤️
???? Thanks Johano!
Sniff ’til your heart’s content! ????????????????????????????
Egoiste and flannel sound like a pretty good match to me! ????????
Thanks Jalapeno !!! ????????????????????????????
Byredo Velvet Haze because I’m not feeling very creative. I can barely smell anything, so the velvet is not opulent.
Aether Carboneum for me, smelling like a isoprene swimming suit – I hate swimming and diving and can’t surf. But hey, i smell like i can!
Sorry no idea how this ended up here.. and twice.
I’m intrigued by Aether. Really like Celluloid.
It’s like nothing else for sure 🙂
Tweed! Although I didn’t put much on and it’s fading quickly, it is reminding me so much of my dad’s fishing tackle box for some reason?
Oh, so glad someone still has a bottle!
I love this one! Would have joined you in it, had I been organized enough to a)remember the CP, b)find my bottle, and c)post! ????
Managed to find my sample of EL White Linen.
Me too! Twinsies!
I’m in White Linen, too. It’s possibly the perfect summer scent. It’s definitely a work of art.
I love White Linen, so many wonderful memories associated with it!
Add me to those enjoying White Linen today. I savor the little bit left in my vintage bottle and usually only wear it on the Fourth of July but I brought it out for today’s community project. So many memories! Although I don’t always wear linen when I wear this scent, I do always wear all white. A perfect scent to say goodbye to summer!
Zero points for me this week too. It’s been a week of no-brainer perfume choices. Today’s pick: Eau de Givenchy.
Spilled on quite a bit more than I meant to apply from my splash bottle this morning. Sorry I’m not sorry!!
That’s one of my no-brainers too ????????
For me, Eau de Givenchy is a white cotton t shirt. I’m giving you points????
I’ll take em!
And for me it’s a mint green linen sheath so I second lillyjo on the points
Un Air de Samsara today, perfect for the white cotton shirt I don’t really trust myself to wear. Have a great day everyone!
Also on my to try sometime list – I have tried Samsara, and found it a bit cloying. How does it compare?
Much lighter! Though the sandalwood base is obvious, but the whole thing is freshened with a dose of herbs, citrus, and a bit of narcissus. It’s honestly a bit more Guerlain-ish than Samsara. Though ironically I think it almost smells like a Sophia Grojsman scent.
I went super obvious with Marc Jacobs Cotton Splash. Now I feel super boring and lacking in creativity and like I’m wearing Love’s Baby Soft. ☹️
Have a great holiday weekend!
And you!
I was trying to remember which L’Artisan had a cotton name / smell, but failed, and too late in the day to look it up 🙂
So funny! I completely forgot the CP this week, but am wearing BV Eau de Velours by coincidence.
Twins!
Another zero-pointer here. I’m reveling in a healthy spritzing of TF Violet Blonde.
Oh, you smell great though! I wish I’d gotten some before the price shot up like mad.
I was lucky enough to fall in love with it at the right time and score a FB at nearly the last possible moment. Pure luck.
Who cares you smell ON POINT!!Love the “violent blonde”…!!
Yes! Although it’s so smooth at this point (far drydown, but still quite present) it’s hardly violent anymore. 🙂
Serge Noire- I don’t spray it on myself, it’s too intense and weird. But I spray it on a handkerchief and keep it in my pocket. Love to take a huff every now and then! I have the newer version (from 5 years ago), not the newest, don’t know how it’s changed, but mine isn’t the original original. So confusing! Anyway, mine’s a little softer and lighter than the original ‘fume. I think….
Oh right! Serge is a kind of fabric!
I tried Serge Noire back when it was relatively new, in 2010, and I did not like it one little bit (well, the drydown was pretty good, but too little too late). A few years ago I tried it again because I am stubborn like that and I liked it enough to buy it — as far as I can tell it was reformulated into a very different scent, the incense tamped down and missing the weird burning-rubber note but with a leather note which I am sure wasn’t there before. It’s not a great work of art, but it’s lovely.
I bought a bottle after testing with a small decant. At some point during the testing period, the dry-down (and it was a long one) left me surrounded by a gorgeous cloud of incense. I haven’t experienced the same gorgeousness after buying the bottle, unfortunately. I’ll have to give this one a few more chances during winter.
The original was horrendous, smelled like a camel-driver’s armpit. I’ve been too afraid to retest it. It’s the only sample I’ve ever sealed up and immediately walked outside to the trash bin.
Thanks to Robin for picking my suggestion and to everyone participating. I love reading about your choices.
My SOTD is Guerlain Habit Rouge EDP.
Habit Rouge! That’s perfect for today. 😀
This is a fun CP, so thank you!
Snap! I love it!
It was too humid for a red jacket.
I think it smells like it should be worn with silver jewellery and a striped top/dress.
Thank you for choosing this topic y the way.
It’s a fun SOTD.
Hey, thank YOU for the idea!
I enjoyed this CP however way I decided to interpret it!
I’m actually surprised that so few perfumes are named for fabrics, or textiles, considering the links between clothing and perfume. Does anyone have a list?
Well, there are a lot of ‘Cuir’ and ‘Leather’, scents, but here are some other examples (including names of garments):
Tweed
White Linen
Organza
La Petite Robe Noire
Serge Noire
Bas de Soie
Eau de Fleur de Soie
All Cashmere scents (too many to list, and I include PG Cadjmere)
Daim Blond
White Suede
Clean’s Cotton scents
Jersey
Lots of Velours scents (Lavande Velours, for example)…
And Grey Flannel, one of the classics.
Body Shop did a scent called Cotton White years ago (2005, I think) with a white cotton sleeve around the bottle.
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede
And lots of Velvets too! Like Velvet Orchid or Velvet Rose in the comments.
There are quite a few perfumes with silk or satin in the name. (DC’ed) Chiffon Sorbet. Crepe de Chine.
OOO! Chiffon Sorbet! I have a mini of that one.
MFK Oud Moods in cashmere, velvet, satin, and silk!
Practically made for this challenge!
There’s also the Caleche version in soie de parfum-not sure if that counts or not.
I have to go out in the heat today, so no perfume until later. I’m thinking of Thierry Mugler Oriental Express. If Shalimar is an opulent Mughal Empire silk brocade, Oriental Express is its Nike high tech fabric update.
Dig it! I like the way you chose the scent for the image of fabric it generates in your mind. Sort of synesthetic, crossover of scent, texture (and perhaps a bit of branding). Cool!
Thanks, Hemlock Sillage!
I was reading my favorite weather blog this morning, and even guys were talking about Serena’s recent outfits — that is a sponsorship deal that has really paid off for Nike! I wear some of their printed tops around town and get more compliments on these than my non-sport clothing. No affiliation — I wish!
SSS Velvet Rose. The rose smells like it would feel velvety but this reminds me of a pink party dress.
Perfect. Laurie is such a master with ???? and violet.
Wearing Black Cashmere again today, it smelled so good yesterday. Enjoy your weekend everyone!
You smell great ringthing!
I was planning to wear a new-to-me vintage mini of White Linen, but since I’m having foundation work done on my house, I’m following a tradition from my kitchen renovation and wearing Le Dix. (That and Cuir de Lancome got me through.) So, a starched oxford shirt?
Love Le Dix – you smell wonderful.
No points for me. I’m wearing Aura from a decant I received this week. When it went on it smelled weirdly medicinal. Now all I’m smelling is vanilla. Where is all the green? This is a scrubber on me.
I put Eau Sauvage on top of Aura. Much better.
Oh interesting mix!
MFK Oud Satin Mood
It’s pretty!
I’m pretty!
Off to see my orthopaedic surgeon for a six-week check-up.
Good luck with the check up!
Hope that your check-up went well!
Wearing White Linen from a small sample. But I also biked to work this morning, so I think it has worn off already, and I am smelling like eau de bike route. 🙂 I’ll have to apply some Fleur Liquide from my emergency work sample drawer.
Enjoy the weekend for anyone who has 3 days off!
I thought that White Linen was one of the best fits for this project but since this perfume doesn’t work for me, the only thing I have is a turned mini that I use on a decorative display with other “just for the ornamental use” bottles, so wearing it was out of question.
How long is your bike ride to work?
Villa of the Mysteries Carthago Duenda Est paired with jacquard.
Delenda
and THUNK
????????
🙂
The Thunkinator strikes again! ????????
ha! wasn’t much left in this small bottle so it was easy to do.
Nice!I’m wayyy behind on thunking anything! This brand sounds intruiging though!
You are thunking every day by using all of your perfumes..that’s how I see it 🙂
You are thunking things I have never heard of and for all I know you are just making them up 😉
https://www.votmperfume.com/fragrance/carthago
I won a small bottle of this on a draw on Cafleurebon…..It’s real Robin!!!
It’s a perfume from a small artisanal line in Brooklyn New York and it’s based on an ancient Roman chypre recipe (according the website) made with notes of fig, rose, calamus root, styrax and labdanum.
Ha…I figured it was, I was just kidding! (But I really had never heard of it)
I know you were kidding 😉 but figured I would add the link in case anyone was curious…there are so so so many lines out there it’s just about impossible to keep up!!!!!
CM8’s song of the day: “Another One Bites the Dust”.
🙂
Bulgari Green Tea.
Starched, lime green poplin.
This is such a nice scent !!
that scent + that fabric = perfection
No SOTD yet, but I opened a new tube of JM Pomegranate Noir exfoliating body wash this morning and am enjoying a thin veil of spiciness around me. When it wears off (if it wears off), I’ll dig out my Bottega Veneta for some points. It’s so soft and really reminds me of the scent of suede.
Happy Friday everyone! Have a great lllooooonnnnggggg weekend!
I’m surprised no one has mentioned BV before now. Great for the CP and it does smell fabulous and classy. Enjoy!
Thank you! I haven’t worn this in over a year – I forgot how lovely it is.
I like PN perfume, so I imagine that all other products in that line would smell great also.
BV was my back-up plan though I thought that leather/suede, while being better than not participating, was a little like cheating 🙂 But it’s a beautiful perfume – CP-compliant or not.
It smells just like the perfume in the shower, but is so faint afterward that it has moments of smelling like a different fragrance…then I’ll get the occasional full blown whiff of it hours later. That’s what I love about JM bath products. They linger all day!
BV was cheating a little, but I love it!
I was going to go with NV Niral for CP compliance. I didn’t like it that much the 1st time I tested it, but it’s cooler today so thought maybe that might change things, which it didn’t. I applied a goodly amount on the back of my hand and the overall smell (lipstick-y) is fine but meh to me, but there’s one of those woody ambers in the base that is a deal breaker, so I washed it off.
I’m now in LL Iris 39, which I generally only wear in winter for some reason- I first wore it with a purple-y blue polar fleece shirt because that was my perfect match for it at the time. So iris colored polar fleece it is today!
You smell great! And perfect fabric association, imo. I’m dreaming of wearing a fleece of any color…
Ha! The irony is that I wore sleeveless to work and didn’t bring a sweater and I’m freezing. It’s “only” 76 degrees today but the AC is full blast everywhere. Wish I’d literally worn that shirt today.
AMD I’ll try to send some of 5his arctic freeze your way????
You smell great! I wore Iris 39 recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. For some reason only gourmand-leaning or somehow “warm” otherwise (e.g., with amber dry down) iris perfumes feel like colder weather perfumes for me. The rest are spring or fall.
Just by chance – I’d forgotten the CP – I am wearing Niral today. I don’t get the ambery base and like it a lot. It’s a rosey iris on me what that particular NVC thing I can’t name. A certain powdery slightly milky something.
Went to the local county fair yesterday. Ate a bunch of crap, petting a lot of critters and still got sunburned while wearing Noontide Petals. Since I must go to work today, facing a busy shift, I am wearing Chanel no 5 edt. I forgot how pretty it is.
lol’d at “ate a bunch of crap”! Sounds like a perfect day at the fair. 😉
Ditto this! Plus, petting animals! It’s a win/win! ????
A great way to enjoy the waning days of summer.
So neat to wear elegant fragrances to the fair! I love the contrast—the food, the heat and the critters against classic symphonic scents. I’d love to catch a waft of either of your scents at a county fair. Any perfume person will smile.
Another cool and overcast morning here before it clears up and becomes a proper fall-ish day. I’m wearing Organza Indecence.
I see that mentioned so often, I didn’t realize it was a discontinued beauty!
SotM = Nicolai L’eau miXte
It’s a crisp cotton lawn fabric printed with green, yellow, and black, maybe a floral print from Liberty of London. But not a ditzy print, something grand.
Thanks to missionista for mentioning L’eau miXte yesterday.
Have a fabulously fragrant Friday, perfumed peeps!
You smell wonderful! Mixte is quite long lasting for a summer Eau and just plain beautiful anytime.
thanks, austenfan! It’s afternoon and I can still smell miXte well. I’m a new fan.
Yay! I so rarely get to be an enabler–feels good!
a new shiny star on your enabler tiara today!
You smell great! I had a decant of that and finished it up. Really should get some more!
ha! just before I read your comment I spritzed on more miXte. I’ll use up this sample quick.
Ohh – this is a new one for me. *Adds to must-try list*
do it! you won’t regret a sniff of miXte! 😉
I love that one, but I’m pretty sure it was also the one that disappeared after a few minutes when I tried it in the Nicolai boutique this summer. Was sad… you smell great!
thanks, MMK! jealous of your visit to the Nicolai boutique. 😉
Not really participating; SOTD is l’Impact de pour un homme by Caron. Just beautiful lavender.
Love lavender! You smell wonderful!
I planned on wearing Organza today, but it’s a dabber, and I felt like spraying. At the last second, my hand went to Alien leather version.
That sounds fabulous!
Nice and you are still participating by wearing leather 🙂
The “leather Alien” is some seriously good stuff! I think my eyes rolled back in my head after my first sniff of it.
Yeah, I’m low enough on it now, that I have to use sparingly. It really should have come in a bigger bottle.
Cleaned and culled my perfume collection again. I have 3 bottles going in the swap meet, I’ve unboxed some others, and today I will hunt for a better box to keep all my bottles in while traveling. It’s possible I may end up with a bigger box. You know, for breathing room. ????
SOTD is a long lasting spritz of SL Chergui which I wore to bed last night in an effort to seduce some cooler weather to come my way. It will last until I take a shower and change for work, then I’ll wear something a bit lighter.
To all those who have a long weekend, I hope you thoroughly and completely enjoy it! ✌????
How large should that box be? Maybe you could use a cooler for these purposes? It’s sturdy and it keeps temperature 🙂
I understand your concern. It was a worry for me when I started traveling too. But, when I have been in the van 24/7 (October ‘17 through July ‘18) I have been in either cold weather )Oregon and Napa) or have been able to maintain the temp at a reasonable level by parking in the shade. If it was too hot, like now, I was either in a hotel or renting an apartment and my perfumes came in with me. Last summer I was in an efficiency. I do have a freezer/fridge combo which will run full time after solar is installed, but it will have food in it???????? So, if that is a concern for swappers, I totally understand. I did find a nice sturdy box with a lid at Home Goods. ????
Good luck with your working weekend Deva!
Chergui is just lovely.X
Thanks Johanob! Hope your weekend is relaxing and rejuvenating ✌????
“I think you’re going to need a bigger box” sorry, I can’t help myself. ????
Oh, one more…. “what’s in the box? What’s in the box?!” ????
LOL, my bf and I quote this back and forth to each other all the time
Awesome! I quote it alot, if only to amuse myself ????
Yes indeed, I need a bigger box. And I found a lovely one ????
I didn’t participate in the CP today; instead, I chose Boys by Kilian. To me, it smells like the big brother of A Lab on Fire’s Paris/L.A. It skews a bit too masculine for my personal tastes, but I like it and will happily use the purse spray until it’s gone.
(And the cola accord is VERY pronounced in this, which is doing nothing for my resolve to cut seriously back on soda! Coke Zero is my weakness, and I suppose there are worse habits to have, but I was drinking far too many in a day and it was starting to affect my sleep.)
Your lucky to get the cola note. I hear alot of people don’t.
I’m in Forbidden by House of Matriarch, after someone on German parfumo said it smells like old carpet… on second sniff I could smell exactly what she meant. Still love it!
Ooh, I hardly ever see HoM scents mentioned here.
*checks note pyramid for Forbidden on Fragrantica* I bet you smell like a haunted forest 😉
Like a hippie in a haunted forest!
P.S. HoM scents are among the very few I wear an awful lot: I love Forbidden, Woo and L‘Arrivee and am on my second full-sized bottle of the first two (that‘s a first). I tend not to mention them much because of the advertised prices (I pay half price thanks to joint orders with other fans on parfumo, which keeps the loyalty discount points topped up. Btw: several scents are currently on sale at just under half price because of damaged packaging: they‘re on the HoM website under “scratch & dent”).
Thanks for the heads up! I’m a big fan of Orca and Devotion. I’m actively trying to avoid sampling any others because I keep falling in love with them and – you’re right – those prices are yikes!
Today’s SOTD is Estee Lauder’s Azuree – perfect leather with mosses scent.
Breakfast smoothie is: kefir, banana, cocoa, vanilla protein powder & Peanut Butter (I think Jamba Juice names their’s Chocolate Moo).
Tonight, the hubbs and I are headed out to my favorite French restaurant in SF (Baker St. Bistro in Cow Hollow). 🙂
You smell amazing…I remember several years ago wanting to revisit that one and the SA almost refusing to get me the tester behind the counter saying I would not like it…the bottle said “cologne” so I must have given myself 10 sprays all over including my jacket…I had forgotten that older ELs were powerhouses and I reeked! But my jacket smelled insanely good for weeks….I would occasionally sneak into the coat closet to sniff the sleeve.
Enjoy your french food tonight !
Oh my! Azuree is strong stuff – I once put some on before I got into a car with people and felt terrible about it. It is absolutely wonderful though!
I love it too. I bought a rollerball decant for more judicious application ????
Hey, a rollerball applicator is a great idea! I should dig one of mine out and give it a try.
It smells good on the hubby also – super sexy stuff!
He made the mistake of overapplying (six sprays) and that cats avoided him for a few days! 🙂
Ha! I bet it does smell really good on him.
Oh, isn’t that funny about the SA’s hiding the tester? How funny is that!
And 10 sprays? :gulp:
She said to me “you’re too young for that” …uh, no, cause I wore it 30 years ago which means that I am old!!! And yes I deeply regretted it after I sprayed but when I saw the word cologne I assumed it would be lighter than EDT. Honestly even with my scent devouring skin it was as strong as a modern extrait.
Wow, that is some seriously condescending behavior, telling you what you do and do not like.
I know , right? I was laughing though because I think she falsely assumed I was a lot younger than I was at the time which maybe isn’t such a bad thing 🙂
Hi All. My son who is almost 16 is interested in wearing fragrance (yay). He is most interested in a store brand called Surf, it’s as you would imagine, clean, aquatic and a little boring (boo). I totally recognize that boring for me might be exhilarating for him, and I want him to start with something non-threatening and that he feels good wearing. There’s plenty of time for him to become more adventurous. Any suggestions out there for a teen friendly fragrance that doesn’t break the bank? I’m really just so glad he doesn’t want to wear Axe! Thanks in advance! ????
L’Occitane Eau de Baux is so nice. They are always having sales and not too pricey, and you can try at the mall. Maybe some of the Nicolai masculines as they are reasonably priced, though harder to sample.
Ooooh yes, Eau de baux is great! I hear the deodorant is possibly better than the EDP (and very inexpensive for a perfume, if a bit $$$ for a deodorant).
I second the Eau de Baux. My fiance wore it for a while and I thought it was really nice.
Maybe the new Kilian marketed towards teens? Looks like caffeinequeen above is wearing it. Sounds fun!
How exciting! I like your emphasis on finding something he feels good wearing 🙂 I’m not at all familiar with Surf, but I’d suggest the Hermes colognes, Terre d’Hermes, etc. They smell great, can be very welcoming, and aren’t too hard to find at discounters, if I am not mistaken.
I’ll second Terre d’Hermes. Also, Voyage d’Hermes. Both are great mainstream offerings.
Slightly more “niche” (though not really since they’ve been acquired) – Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds, Trefle Pur and a couple more from the original line-up.
I second Undina’s suggestion of the Ateliers and would also add the Ambre Nu. They can be found discounted online and Sephora will make you samples for free.
I third this suggestion- Terre d’Hermes smells fresh, earthy and lovely and is easy to wear. A 1.7 ounce bottle can be had for $40- which is really rather nice and will last a long time!
https://www.fragrancenet.com/cologne/hermes/terre-dhermes/edt?mv_pc=fragrantica&utm_campaign=260867&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=fragrantica#146103
Some of the Jo Malones are great for a teenager as well as some from Phlur brand which also has a nice sampler set. Oh, and Dame Perfumery which sells inexpensive travel sizes and is always generous with free samples. These are the most represented in my teenage son,s collection
And KellyC reminds me below that there is a lot of love for Adam Levine for Him!
Your son may laugh, but what about Old Spice? I still love to smell it on a man!
Oh yes!!! that’s a great one! and because none of his peers will be wearing it they will probably think it niche or some obscure brand.
I’m loving all these suggestions! Thank you and keep ’em coming!! 🙂
Davidoff cool water was the rite of passage men’s fragrance when I was a teen.
CK one also did the rounds and I still have a soft spot for it.
I drag my 14 year old son into Sephora and make him smell things. So far he has gone pretty mainstream with Invictus Intense and Armani Code Profumo. I found a botle of the Invictus Intense at Marshalls and got a mini of the Armani for him. If you can get him to go into the store, it’s an easy way to find what appeals (besides aquatics).
and you can get free samples to take home and try at your leisure!!! each person gets three free so if you go with him you will get six samples to take home.
Dior Homme
Guerlain Habit Rouge
Channel Allure Pour Homme Edition Blanche
V&R Spicebomb
Gucci Guilty Pour Homme Absolute
Some of the online discounters have L’Artisan’s Timbuktu for around $40. Seconding the Adam Levine for Men.
Yes to this. I think the Adam Levin sells for under 20 online if I am not mistaken.
Thanks everyone!! I will be sure to report back!
I’m wearing Commodity Wool today (until the scent quickly vanishes!)to celebrate the recent sweater weather we are enjoying.Wishing everyone a relaxing holiday weekend.
Good one!
It was a toss up between MMM Untitled packaged in a cotton drawstring bag or Missoni which has a little collar of their striped fabric around the neck of the bottle. Untitled won!
You reminded me that Sonia Rykiel Woman came in a t-shirt shaped bottle!
My Tweed faded so I put on vintage Joy again, and again it’s so lovely I’m almost tearing up! Thanks Dior for indirectly prompting me to finally get this out and wear it!
This project was especially difficult for me but I found one perfume in my collection that I always associated with fabric – Tom Ford Fleur de Chine (crepe de chine). It’s one of my favorite feminine perfumes in this line, and I’m sad that it had been discontinued.
Happy Friday everyone!
Twice this year I’ve seen FdC pop up on Zullily.
And if I have not mentioned it, you get an enabler’s pin for that!
Yes! I was very happy that you were able to get it. It seemed like a good deal too.
In MDCI Rosa di Siwa – no fabric association, but I would give it a pale pink color
I just tried that one yesterday! I found it too sweet. I guess I don’t like lychee as a note. I couldn’t pick up any of the purported peony.
SOTD is Iris Nazarena. It would pair perfectly with a pair of black trousers and a black turtleneck, in my opinion.
Burning my first Atelier Cologne candle… very disappointed. It literally smells like melted wax and has ZERO scent (even if I leave the room and come back, or hold it up to my face). Disappointed because I love their soaps.
Most recent candle love? Shockingly, this Target Black Pepper Moss, which is a nice green mossy floral thing with great throw.
Oooh good to know about the Target candle! So sorry to hear about the Atelier Cologne candle having no scent, that is terrible 🙁
With liberal return policies, maybe you can either return it or get store credit?
I don’t know if this counts, but I’m in Adam Levine for Him, which is cheap but good- just like the Auburn University T-Shirt I’m wearing today in honor of football season starting tomorrow ha!
Happy almost September and yay for the long weekend!
You matched your clothing to your perfume, that must count for something!
Slavishly following a suggestion from earlier in the week and am in SL Bas de Soie.
I had to think hard on this one. While I have a few leathers/cuirs, it’s been way too hot for that kind of thing. I did consider Hanae Mori Haute Couture, but decided against it. Then I remembered I have a teeny tiny vintage splash of Crepe de Chine! I must say that in the heat wave we’ve been having, gauzy silk IS the way to go fabric-wise as well!
I think I’ll participate with Organza , as I work with someone who doesn’t like florals and this pulls more into the vanilla wheelhouse she’s comfortable with. ( I prefer not to give my coworkers headaches -at least not from my perfume!)
Curious, are you wearing vintage or from a new formulation? I have a tiny amt of vintage but would love a spray bottle. Wasn’t sure how the new one is now. It’s been about 5 years since I smelled a “current” bottle.
Happy Friday!
Am in Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere, which is chemically (in a good way) and lovely and has NOTHING to do with cashmere or wool in general- this feels ‘silky’ and subtly smooth. Beautiful sillage that makes people smile.
Am in blue silk blouse and white jeans, which I will wear well into fall. I am a grown person and you can’t tell me what to do!
Goodbye, Ms. Franklin. Goodbye, Mr. McCain.
Nearly impulse-purchased Warm Cashmere last time I was at Ulta because I was so surprised at how much I liked it.
I’m hoping the shower gel is included if they run a sale on philosophy this year.
Oh, check out QVC for deals on Philosophy colognes and bath products.
Check this out:
https://www.qvc.com/philosophy-sweet-and-luxurious-3-piece-layering-kit.product.A307545.html?sc=SRCH
Nice!!!!
Oh, man, that is a good deal!
It’s REALLY good, isn’t it? Surprisingly good and I think good value for money because it is truly so easy to wear, and I think it is appropriate for both office AND going out on a date.
I couldn’t bring myself to attempt to wear White Linen to work, but I am participating in Armani Prive Amber Soie (silk). If I was to give it a two word summary like The Guide does, it would be anise amber. It’s lovely and of course, discontinued.
I’m hoping to get it together and post my thoughts on the Essential Parfums line in the weekend poll. I have also tried two of the five in the new vanilla line from Sylvaine Delacourte and was impressed with both. I want to make time to try the others this weekend, and I’ll post thoughts as I try them.
Have you tried the Musc sampler? I bought both as stocking stuffers because they were so inexpensive plus free shipping. I am also curious about the Essential parfums. Those come in smaller bottles which is nice
Yes, I bought the musk discovery set as soon as it was released. The only one I fell for was Lilylang. I’m not a huge white musk fan in general so I won’t be surprised if the vanilla collection works better for me overall.
I gave one tiny spray up and down my arms of the Musc sampler and I like Florentina (my skin is picking up the sweet almond) and Helicriss for the immortelle. They make nice travel spray sets too.
Also agreeing at how amazingly inexpensive these are. I also love how affordable their travel sets are.
Ha yes! I said the same above!! You could even get one for yourself and gift one or two others
Of the travel sprays ????
I’m finally trying Assam of India, so no points for me. I think I like it? I don’t love tea scents generally, but this has a frankincense vibe that makes it more interesting.
Happy Friday!
Ha!!! Glad to hear that you smell the frankincense too!!! Perfumelover67 and I were wondering if our noses we’re off because no one else besides us smelled it LOL ???? ????
You know, I must have seen some of your comments, because I was expecting frankincense! I didn’t get any in the opening, but maybe 30 minutes in I definitely smelled it.
The opening was pure lemon for me… I don’t get as much of the tea note as everyone else does
I get a load of lemon in Assam of India, too. ???? Did not notice any frankincense, though… I will look for it the next time I try my sample.
I wonder if it is because perfumelover67 and I have full bottles and scent eating skin and we spray lavishly? I think that also affects what we smell in the perfumes.
Stella in my little Print Collection bottle.Think that’s “some” points,as Stella is a revered fashion designer, and she used prints from her own fashion line for these bottles.a favorite rose for an early Spring day.
Happy Friday!
X
Works for me ????
✌????☺️????????
You get points in my book.???? Stella is one of my faves—you smell great!
Thanks Creosote,as do you!✌????
Friday!
I’m in Cuir de Lancôme for today’s project. Ideally, given the weather, I would’ve gone with EL White Linen, but I’m all out. So CdL it was. Poor me.????????
Enjoy your day, NSTers, and have an excellent weekend!
Cuir de Lancome is gorgeous in almost any weather I have tried it in. Lucky you! ????
Twilly from a spray at the counter yesterday.
And how are you liking Twilly? I go back and forth on it.
In Osmanthe Yunnan layered over Cedre Sambac – not sure if this is one of the recommended combos but it works for me!
That’s interesting, need to try that combo.
I’m wearing Jersey EDT today. I haven’t visited this sample for at least 2 years, and I had forgotten how lovely it smells. At one point I was walking down an empty hallway and thought “wow, something smells great!” Turns out it was me.
Has anyone tried the EDP version? Is it a horrible difference?
Ha that’s great!! I love when that happens ????
Black Cashmere for me today, so I am partly playing, but I’m in a T-shirt and sweats so no cashmere at all in 80+ degree temps.
Have a great long weekend those in the USA!
Summer cashmere just doesn’t sound right
I got nuthin’… it’s still to warm for me to wear any leather scents.
And…I’m enjoying the light scent of the Neutrogena body oil I used after shower. It was just a small sample I picked up somewhere, but I’m enjoying it’s warmth and clean scent.
So excited!! College Game Day starts tomorrow!!
Hey friends, you are all wonderful. I’m in JM Myrrh & Tonka today, on top of the remnants of M&T shower oil from last night. I still smell good, but I smell very faintly; it is a JM, after all, so even though it’s one of their intense scents, it will of course have faded less than five hours after application >.<
Looking SO forward to a week up in Tomales Bay, sailing and eating oysters and kayaking and definitely not playing with elephant seals because that's not legal. Those of you with fun weekend plans: enjoy!!! (And, uh, the rest of you also!)
I will be kayaking and eating oysters vicariously thru your post. ????
🙂 I will eat extra for you!
????????!
For today’s project I picked Rose Velours from Van Cleef & Arpels. Anyone else thought about it?
Nice choice, I don’t have that one but I enjoyed sniffing it.
For today’s project I picked Rose Velours from Van Cleef & Arpels. Anyone else thought about it?
I didn’t! Nice pick!
No points, but the air and light this morning, after some grey-dawn showers, was so bright and cool, Diptyque Ombré dans L’eau was just the right mood.
I’m wearing the vintage french linen smock that I bought this summer for the first time today. It’s rough and soft all at once; OdL is bringing exactly that contrast too. I’m digging it.
That sounds lovely….everything!
Ombré is very eye-catching and has a slimming effect!
In Bulgari Eau The Noire because I forgot the project this morning and this is my no brainer work scent. Feeling a tad deflated after a class that didn’t go as well as I had planned (among other things, one student accidentally tore a page in another students book and he got really upset – we’re talking college here, not elementary school, so that was odd) – I think I need to reward myself with the that vintage chanel ebay purchase I’ve been thinking about!
Wow, college?! That’s pretty sad… how are they going to function in the real world? Hope next class goes better.
Totally forgot about the CP, and it’s still hot/humid here so I grabbed OJ Frangpiani. Friday Night Lights tonight – I have to sell programs for the high school football game. (They “encourage” freshman parents to do these jobs so they can enjoy the games for the next 3 years.) Have a great weekend, y’all.
The longed-for and promised cooler weather has arrived! Whoo hoo! Alas, I can’t quite take full advantage of it… seem to have picked up a scratchy throat in the past 24 hours. I’m not sure if it is allergies acting up, or an annoying little virus. So, lots of hot tea and all the extra snoozing I can put into my schedule. ☕
SOTD = Etro Paisley EdP, from the sample stash. This is a close cousin to Shaal Nur, according to my nose. I can pick out citrus, cardamom, ylang, and maybe some faint vanilla. No matching paisley clothes, though… a grey T shirt will have to do.
Get better soon Jalapeno!
Thank you! I plan on taking things slow and easy this weekend.
Feel better Jalapeno!
Thanks, lillyjo! I don’t have any special plans for this weekend, so I can do what my body tells me to.
Hot tea with bourbon is my suggestion. Feel better soon, Jalapeno. ????????????????
Thanks Bear!
Feel better soon! I wonder if you picked up a bug at your doc appt. yesterday?
That thought did cross my mind… all it takes is someone sneezing or coughing and then opening a door. However, I was also dealing with allergy symptoms earlier this week. At least I have stopped sneezing today! ????
Oh no! Hope you nip this in the bud. I’ve been taking Echinacea everyday as a preventive. You’re supposed to take it as soon as you feel something coming on and it will lessen the symptoms. Fight! Fight! Fight!
Feel better! allergy season is among us so it might very well be that.
I’m in Richard James Savile Row, which in the notes list printed on the back of the box officially includes what they call “Clean Starched Shirt Accord”.
I was thinking about spraying Bas de Soie for today CP, but went with Mito edp instead- such a gorgeous fragrance!!!! I fell in love with it from the first sniff- beautiful and unique green composition, that changes from the top notes to the base and lasts forever. What more could I wish for?
To my horror, I developed a bad reaction to it- the skin behind the ears became red, irritated and itchy. What a let down!!! I still have 2 small decants and will try to spray on my arms.Sadly, NO FB for me…
Matching fabric- olive green silk taffeta.
Oh NO!! Is this the first time you have reacted to Mito? What a pity.
I had no reaction to Mito sample from Luckyscent couple years ago and I am pretty sure it was VdP, not edp. Last year I got 3 decants from a very sweet and generous NSTer and had a reaction toward the end of the first decant, but for some reason I thought things will be different with the second decant. I feel like an idiot, but I rarely fall for a fragrance, I can test hundred perfumes and find one or two FBworthy ones.
Bummer! Bummer! Bummer!
Mito literally blew my socks off 🙁
That is a total bummer. Do you think you’d retry the VdP, or is it all just too risky?
Oh, dear! You are taking the words out of my mouth! Honestly,I am willing to take a small risk and retry; after all I don’t have any respitory problems and the juice is beyond anything I have tried!!!
RESPIRATORY!
Can you spray your clothes?
I am affraid Mito will stain them- the liquid is deep amber color and leaves brown stains on my arms.
Way off theme in La Danza delle Libullele by Nobile 1942. After several weeks wearing the same 3 scents because…
– all my perfumes are packed away for moving
– I am too busy to sort anything new
– I haven’t been enjoying perfumes so much for a while now
…I was suddenly in the mood for something new and remembered I have a bunch of Nobile 1942 samples.
Well, I like the burst of fresh apple up front but Oh My God it is so SWEEEEEEET. Tooth-rottingly. It reminds me of Keiko Mecheri “Ume” which also has that zingy-fruit-with-intense-sweetness thing going on. I shall leave this to its fan club.
Next week is my last week on my London contract and the week after I start in The Hague. I’ve never been.
Half our stuff has now moved to Malaga and *most* of it arrived unsmashed. :^S
Tomorrow we are meeting an old friend who has helped us with building and design work, to arrange a week of fixing up and freshening the UK house so we can sell it more quickly. And then it goes on the market and hopefully by the end of the year there will be nothing tying us to that part of our old life that we’ve outgrown. :^)
Wow, that is a lot of change for you! Good luck with your new contract and on selling the “old” house. Hope everything goes smoothly, or reasonably so.
I was just thinking of you this week! Wishing you the best of luck with everything! Keep us posted ????
Good luck. I’ve been to The Hague for a museum trip and also rang in the New Year there perhaps 10 years ago.
SOTD = L’AP Tea for Two
I associate this with black lace. I should wear this more often!
In the continuing bank saga, I opened a new account for myself to leverage a good bonus offer. The banker was nice but sloppy … so sloppy that besides the two pieces of ID I showed her plus slowly mentioning my SSN, when I got the signature “card” to sign, I saw that she misspelled my last name and my SSN was wrong. Oy vey.
Pets and their idiotic owners:
– a woman carrying groceries and holding a longish leash for her greyhound walking on the sidewalk of a very busy state highway. She was walking on the inside while the dog loped besides her INCHES away from the road.
– couple jogging with a poodle between them
The great purge of 2018 is coming along. I still have A LOT of work to do!
That bank paperwork is NOT getting things off to a good start at all! ????
I know, right?
There’s sidewalks on the highway,? Maybe we have them to, idk, I haven’t been on a highway since my kids were little.
Well, I probably described the highway incorrectly…it is a major highway where you’re allowed to go 40 mph in these here parts that’s not the Garden State Parkway or NJ Turnpike. There are 2 lanes going each direction and businesses on both sides. One wrong move by that dog would have meant a bloody end for it.
Good luck with the purge! I am trying to do that as well with limited success.
I have decided that going forward, I need to institute a “one in two out” rule and the in and out do not need to be of the same type of thing…just more out than in!
SOTD is Rose de Siwa which, of course, is pink chiffon.
Yep! For me, it’s a light pink chiffon.
Wearing a plain cotton t-shirt and Levi’s, decided to wear Green by Byredo to go with. I’ve grown to appreciate this discontinued gem. It starts almost too much green but the effect is so invigorating and the green almond and musk dry down is sophisticated yet carefree. A crisp white shirt would also be a perfect match with this scent.
Late to the party, but I wore Byredo Seven Veils today. 🙂
Good one!
