Thursday, and Barbara Eden's birthday (and if you have a few minutes you need to dispose of, here she is singing with Tom Jones). What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Lush 25:43. I've really got to come up with something for tomorrow's project.
Reminder: on 8/24, in honor of Pluto Demoted Day, wear a fragrance you used to obsess over, but don't care so much about anymore. If you can, tell us why you don't love it anymore. Suggested by Katrina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Incense Pure…just because.
and I have nothing for tomorrow because I basically just conehead my way through all of my fragrances…I rarely save anything and if I do it is usually a scent I don’t want to thunk (right now it is just two).
Ha! Knew someone would ask!
Nocturnes de Caron because when I was 17 I followed a woman around in a museum to ask what she was wearing because she smelled so amazing. Her husband was in a wheelchair and he beamed when I asked because he bought it for her. My best friend was with me at the time and she ended up buying me my first bottle when I turned 18. I think I must have drained 1000 or more ml of it in my lifetime.
Heaven by the Gap because I wore it on my first date with my husband (23 years ago ON THIS DAY) when we went to Jones Beach. He told me I smelled good (coming from him this is a HUGE compliment because he never says anything or else he says my stuff is too strong). During our first year of courtship that was the only fragrance I wore. I still have about 7 or 8ml of it left In a 20 or so ml travel spray….I once bought 18 bottles of it when I heard it was being d/c…..I called every Gap store until I found one and the lady thought she was hearing things when I told her to mail me 18 bottles. I also wore it when we eloped
CM8 – I love your stories! I’m so glad I hopped on the site today ????
I was seriously considering getting a bottle of intense pure, but I’m on my “no buy”, and I’m sticking with it – I have a sample that I ordered from Laurie last year – and I do like to sniff it sometimes
I do admire how much you spray and enjoy perfume ????????
I am very shy in person in real life but I can type up a storm…sometimes my stories get out of hand-LOL!
I think Incense Pure is popular enough to stay in the lineup when someone new takes over. If you still like it then and you have thunked enough to justify more perfume you can always pick it up then.
As I have gotten older I realize that LIFE IS JUST TOO SHORT so I am really trying not to hoard and just spray away!!!!!
Such great memories! Did you go through all 18 bottles except the one you have left? Or were some gifts?
Nope I drained them all…and when I realized I really could not find it anymore I bought that travel spray to keep for nostalgia…..
Those are charming stories. I wonder whether the couple in the museum remember(ed) that day as fondly as you do. I also saw that episode in which Sebastian referred to Chanel’s sales — was that for fragrances alone, or everything? I can’t recall. And while I’m talking about him, I’ll bet many here would enjoy the couple of videos he has posted recently featuring perfumer-in-training Ashley: there is a neat chemistry between them.
Sfguy, it was a young married couple and the husband was clearly disabled. Based on both of their reactions that some strange teenager would follow them until she got up the nerve to ask and the husband’s ear to ear grin because he knew he done good I feel certain that they remember that day. I think this is another reason I have such a strong attachment to the scent. It was a beautiful fragrant memory. Regarding Sebastian, I was under the impression just perfume sales alone. And yes I love the collaboration with Ashley…. hope to see more of them!!
Happy Anniversary CM8! ????????????????
Oh, I loved the matching Gap soaps – there was something else along similar lines later on, but perhaps my tastes had changed by then.
PL 67 thank you!!!
Annie A, I am fairly certain the original four fragrances started out as soaps. Heaven,. Grass, Earth and Day. Gap bought the formulas and turned them into EDTs. Then later body products. I had the EDT, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and candles all in the scent of Heaven. Also, the original travel sprays were metal canisters with I think about 10 ml of juice. They looked like mini Montales. And they were five dollars a piece so I had all four scents. Later came Dream, OM, Dream More and So Pink.
Now I’m not enabling or anything but I spy with my little eye one of these on a popular auction site, US seller. And it’s for mere buttons, Just sayin????
And that’s a really lovely story. Happy anniversary ????
I love these two stories
Koyel- thank you..I bet you have numerous stories attached to your favorite fragrances too
I love hearing anniversary stories and how couples meet.
Thanks SmokeyToes! We actually met a month and a half earlier and I fell hard because he has beautiful eyes and smelled divine at the time…. when he was single he actually wore cologne when he went out ????
Happy anniversary CM8!
cassieflower!!! You are so naughty!!! I already looked a while ago…honestly, the prices aren’t half bad on ebay…but I am content enough for now to sniff my little travel size
I bet one is Gap Grass.
Ha!!! Close! Gap Heaven…man I would have loved to keep my Gap grass!!! But I coneheaded through that one!!!! Also, Gap Om….wow was that an amazing incense!!! hard to believe that when they came out in the mid 1990s they were only $12.50 for FOUR OUNCES. Yeah, I know I sound like a broken record but it is mind boggling to me.
Sebastian of Smelling Great Fragrances said on one of his recent reviews that the revenue for Chanel’s Fragrances for 2017 was slightly under 10 BILLION DOLLARS….that really made my head spin…..
Forgot to say, happy anniversary!! ????
Thank you! Because we did not have a formal wedding I always consider this day to be our real anniversary!
I remember adoring all of those Gap scents. Grass and Heaven especially. Can you believe how cheap and fun those perfumes were? Those and Colors de Benetton were in heavy rotation back in the 90’s.
Yes SmokeyToes, they were not only cheap but so damn good!!!!
CM8, my H and I also celebrate our first date as an anniversary. It’s about 6 months apart from our wedding anniversary, which we also celebrate, and falls a couple of days from my birthday. So we do 2 anniversaries every year – one in winter and one in summer.
I had one of those Gap scents, too, and wore Colors of Benetton, but the latter I had in the mid/late 80s and the Gap about 10 years later. Maybe I was just late to the party with Gap?
kpaint- our marriage anniversary is in June but since we did not have a wedding for some odd reason I never feel compelled to celebrate it….every year Mr. CM8 asks me if I want to go out and 9 times out of 10 I say NO.
The original Gap scents came out in 1994..the Benettons were in the 80s…nope you weren’t late to the party do you remember which Gap scent you had? I thought for the money they were all well done.
Happy Anniversary, you smell great!
Thank you cazaubon! I bet you have Incense Pure too Maybe one of these days we will be scent twins!
I do indeed have Incense Pure, when the temperature drops another 10 degrees we can do a sync.
Yes!!! Let’s do it!!!
We’re twins today!
I love the far dry down, it’s so beautiful and soft, slightly sweet!
Yippie!!! Hi scent twin!! Laurie says it’s the vanilla that registers as sweet on our skin. Winter Woods is also very sweet on me and I can definitely wear it in the summer months.
Happy Anniversary to you and hubs! You’ve been smelling great since forever????????
Thanks Deva!!! Yup,fell down the rabbit hole a LOOONG time ago????????????????
Happy Scented Anniversary CM8! You picked a lovely one for the occasion.
I picked L’air Barbes from 19-69. Enjoying the mix of natural and artificial elements.
Who could forget the “Day my Momma socked it to the Harper Valley PTA!”
Wow — I had!
Ha, me too. And never did see that movie!
In two dabs of vintage Obsession from a mini. I smell so good imo. This is the one that started it all, it’s still true love…big hair, shoulder pads and all.
Made a quick out of town sans kids in celebration of our 25th wedding anniversary and today it’s back to real life. I’ve been following along in the comments and everyone has been smelling great!
YOu smell beyond amazing!!! I had several Obsession bottles over the years…vintage is the best!
and happy anniversary to you and the hubs Isn’t it amazing how time flies?
Thanks CM8! Vintage really is the best! I went through many bottles too…it is still the perfume that my husband and bff associate with me. I have a 100 ml spray bottle that should last me until the end of time and this mini that has gotten so concentrated and rich it smells amazing!
Happy anniversary to you too!!
Obsession also started it all for me. Years have passed and I still love it big time, even though I do not wear it often. You smell super amazing!
I don’t wear it often enough either, I really need to remedy that! My hubs has told me (on more than one occasion) that he’d be happy if it’s all I ever wore.☺️
Happy Anniversary! Hope you enjoyed your getaway!
Thanks ElisaP! We had a really nice time.????
Happy Anniversary! ✌????
Hope it was a fun trip!
Thanks Robin! It was!
Plus, the kids survived and the house is still in one piece, so all in all a success!
Congrats – that’s a major milestone!
Obsession might have started it all for me, too, (or any number of those 80s monstres) and I have to say I feel more comfortable in it now than I did at 16. (Same goes for Fendi, Poison, etc etc)
Thanks kpaint! It really is when I think about it, even though most days I don’t feel much older than I did when we met in college. Hard to believe it’s been 25 years.????
I still love all those big 80’s perfumes too!!
Happy Silver Anniversary! ????????????????
Well I am back to school, 9 days in…so I am checking back in with NST.
I just received a sample of Jovoy Remember Me. I am liking it but still deciding if I want a bottle of it. They had another scent I tried at Perfume House years ago but I forgot the name. I really liked it but it only came in a very large bottle. I would be much more likely to buy if companies did 30 or 50 ml at least. 100 ml is lives a long time when you have several you like, they go on for ever and there are always new ones coming that are tempting.
I just go the 2018 The Guide in the mail from Fumerie. Only read the forward so far but I love perfume book….any one else reading it?
I’m glued to the new guide, stayed up late last night reading and looking perfumes up on fragrantica.
I love Jovoy Ambre Premier. It starts off sweet and winds up in the boudoir.
I am with you there – even if it’s not as good value a 30 ml bottle is vastly less daunting. The last 100 ml I bought was Caron’s third man, and my heart sinks at how little I have used up, knowing I never will.
I am, too. I’ll happily pay more per ml to get a reasonably sized bottle, and spend less overall.
I suspect one of the reasons perfumes come in big vats is that people feel like they’re getting some kind of “deal” – particularly when it’s an overpriced bottle by a luxury brand.
Vanille 44 from a sample. In case it hasn’t already been mentioned here, the Le Labo City Exclusives are going to be available at all their boutiques in September — I got my sample at the boutique inside my local Nordstrom where the Exclusives are already available for sampling and preorder.
Yay! I smelled Vanille 44 in Paris this spring, sort of wish I had sprung for a bottle
Thanks for the tip on City Exclusives!
Bought Poivre 23, 4 years ago.
Gorgeous Labdanum and Black Pepper. ????????
Wearing vintage JOY edp
It’s so good – this was my mom’s special occasion scent, but that doesn’t bother me, sometimes I don’t like to wear my grandmother’s perfume though.
I don’t see how Dior is able to copy the font of the old Joy on their new Joy – but I guess they’re purchasing Jean Patou, so that’s how they get away with it? I think ripping off the font bothers me most of all!
JOY is pure joy and vintage is even better!!!!
it really is!
You smell fantastic! It looks like many of us have been wearing Joy this week as a way to honor the perfume and/or show how much we dislike the approach Dior took with its new perfume release. Patou Joy is an amazing classic which is unique and irreplaceable!
There have been a lot of comments on the dior joy fragrantica page calling the “haters”, “immature”, etc. I guess if you just think of perfume as a product, and no matter what is produced you feel an obligation to smell it objectively, i get it. But, I don’t think it is – the name and the bottle and the story are all part of the experience. since there is so much product now, people in the next generation won’t associate people they love with these glamorous stories. It’s not the end of the world, but I don’t think we should be called haters
Calling someone a hater in order to discourage critical thinking is about immature as you can get.
Well said, Robin!
YES, thank you! I don’t even understand why there is a brand loyalty at this point, maybe there are fervent Jennifer Lawrence fans, who knows?
Wait, the new Dior Joy is the old Patou?
The font and packaging look very Dior to me (like modern Dior makeup.) It is rather horrid IMO, but Dior bottles have been quite spotty over the years.
No, people are just complaining that they a) bought Patou and then b) reused the name Joy. I am assuming they will keep making Patou Joy? If it turns out they are going to axe Joy, that would be just amazing.
BUT also maybe better than having Demachy do a Miss Dior makeover on Joy. Ha.
Oh, I didn’t realize they’d bought Patou. Funny that it takes “20 years” to come up with a “new” fragrance with the same name as a perfume in their own catalog.
You are right, they are using the Dior font, but it’s the JOY in all caps that bothers me.
????PHI Une Rose de Kandahar,????????. Rose, tobacco, cinnamon, ambergris.
Speakers to 11 – Lone Justice.
You know so many
Ways to be Wicked
You smell fabulous Bear, love PHI.
???? Thanks cazaubon and CM8! ????
OMG. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Lone Justice and Maria McKee. Sweet Sweet Baby mine. In my top 5 CD’s ever!!!
Yesssss, that’s gorgeous stuff!
You smell great Bear! I never tried PHI in the summer…
???? Thank you lucasai, it is quite beautiful in warm (not hot today) weather. ????
We have 32*C here today but it’s supposed to be 20-ish over weekend, so that’s when I might try it out.
Gah! You smell so good!
???? Thanks! ????????????
Whaddya know – scent twin! I’m with you in finding it to work in warm, but not hot, weather. We are probably experiencing similar weather today.
smellin’ great with PHI, Bear. It’s the ambergris that does it.
???? Thanks, glad you sampled following my lead.
And I like all the notes, but a true cinnamon note gets me every time! ????
Hermes 24 Faubourg today.
When I first saw the picture, I thought to myself “that pattern looks just like the inside of Jeannie’s bottle” , then I saw the beautiful Barbara Eden and realized it was in fact her bottle. Cute!
That’s so funny you recognized it! I had forgotten the details.
Wearing Atélier des Ors Cuir Sacré, thanks to Koyel.
mmmm, you smell so good!
That’s a bold choice for the summer
That’s another one I haven’t worn in months! Thanks for the reminder.
In Blackbird Y06-S. So much fun wearing this banana peel- jasmine perfume. Nice sillage and longevity. A great scent for summer.
That sounds interesting…is it Olympic Orchids or another house? and is it one of your full bottles?
It is a Blackbird perfume, not from another house, for what I understand. It is one of my 30 ml full bottles and I wore it a lot right after I purchased it. I just saw it this morning and decided to give it some love again. Fun and interesting for sure!
Now I have to look it up!! It sounds good to me ????
It is good for sure! ????
Great choice. Such a fun scent!
Thank you! And I was finally able to get the banana note that for a while I could not smell at all!
Chanel 5 L’Eau (sample). Verdict still out. Like but not love, I think. Still thinking about what to wear for CP tomorrow.
I’m in the minority in preferring L’Eau Premiere…. but you still smell great.
We might be in the minority, but we are still high-classy with it!
???? fist bump!
This has been a week full of Mondays. But I’m fighting back today in Delrae Mythique, which I love. Sadly, my sample will be within thunking range in the next day or so.
Be well, all. (I’m hoping to catch up soon on comments.)
Continue the fight and it’s almost Friday! ????
Ugh, sorry to hear that your week has been a challenging one! I hope that you will get a break this weekend,
Comparing 2007 31 RC EDT to 2015 31 RC EDT today…for Science!
Inquiring minds will want to know the scientific verdict!
They are very similar with few appreciable differences to my nose. The 2015 version is slightly sweeter whereas the 2007 is slightly spicier. Some folks on Fragrantica complained about reformulation of the EDT before the EDP even came out but my nose detects very minor differences with these EDT versions. We can all sleep a bit easier tonight now…so long as you ignore major US news stories I suppose. ????
Thanks for the research.
Yes, unfortunately I am used to ignoring major news stories to be able to sleep.
We need t-shirts and bumper stickers printed with “I smell great for science.”
HA! love this
I’m in OJ Woman today – another fragrance that I’m in no danger whatsoever of NOT obsessing over anytime soon.
Hahaha me too. Love that stuff.
Hello my fragrant friends. I’m on theme today in Tam Dao, which is representing the whole creamy-woody genre, which I used to ADORE and swoon for every example of, this one most of all. Now alas I find them a little cloying and rarely reach for them. Glad I only got a mini.
So you find Tam Dao too sweet?
SOTD is Incense Pure by Sonoma Scent Studio, I adore the incense and amber notes.
A new coworker is also a budding perfumista ~ when I was doing her New Faculty orientation she commended on how much she adored the scent. She loves amber, incense and gourmand scents so I’ve created a bunch of samples for her. We’ll have fun sniffing at lunch today!
No smoothie for breakfast, was running very late; I made cranberry nut granola crunch bars last night and had one of those instead. Between this and coffee, I am nearly bouncing off the walls.
Oooo…. always fun to have a partner in crime ???? Have you tried Amber incense? It’s from the all natural line of SSS…the best of both!!
No, unfortunately I haven’t tried the Amber Incense (darn it!). I bet it’s fabulous!
Another amber I adore is Ambre by Reminiscence Paris. It has loads of musk, labdanum and benzoin which reads incense on my skin.
And a happy surprise this morning, a coworker gifted me with a big bottle Chance as a thank you for helping her with several difficult job searches. What a nice way to start a Thursday!
Wow that is a great surprise!!!!
What a nice colleague! Did she have a sense already of what perfume you would like?
I think so, I’m known for being the perfumista in our building.
That is a lovely and classy gesture from your coworker!
Chanel No. 5 Eau de Parfum, day two. It’s just so easy.
I’ve got lots of ideas for tomorrow’s CP. It kind of comes with the territory of loving fragrance – loves come and they go.
That is exactly what I think of No. 5 EDP, so easy Works great for any occasion.
OMG Robin. That picture! I just figured out where I got my India obsession from????early childhood tv impressions. Now there’s a scary thought!
SOTD Ananas Fizz
BYW, I’ve been reading the new guide to perfumes and I believe all of the Lush Gorilla perfumes reviewed were very highly rated.
They do love Lush. And I agree with them, especially after a recent trip to Mall of America. I smelled everything in Nordstrom and everything was so timid even the niche brands and then I went to Lush and everything was so bold and different
I bought All Good Things by Gorilla perfumes, but – on theme- are now a little fatigued by the “marshmallows roasting round a campfire in the woods” smell that I first loved. The boldness wore me out within one winter!
I liked that one a lot when I tried it in the store last summer but never felt compelled enough to buy it. I probably should have gotten a 10ml before they changed their packaging and sizes.
Eek, Lush and its general waftiness makes me scared to go in, even with the promise of nice perfumes.
I hear you. Always regret not having my swimming nose plugs handy when I walk in there????
There is good reason to be afeared. It’s a horrible experience, being in that store.
The SAs are even worse than the smell (through no fault of their own – the company gives them a minimum number of times they must approach each customer). I usually avoid but the MoA has testers of the whole perfume line.
Whoa, I had no idea! I thought they were just super duper extroverted. (Wouldn’t you have to be, to work in such an overstimulating environment?)
I usually avoid but they make one of my HG hair products so I had to go in recently.
I guess the mandate explains why the SA was trying to sell me on the product I had in my hand that I told her I was repurchasing, thus blocking me from getting to the cashier?
You know, I go into Lush with my daughter, and I have only purchased there twice. Rarely are we approached once, if at all. I prefer being left alone, but sometimes it bothers me
I feel comfortable spritzing at Sephora, Ulta, and the rundown Macy’s near me that hardly has any SAs. I love browsing at airports; I seem to be allowed to kill time in peace. Otherwise, I grant myself the occasional blessing of buying samples online to avoid the pushy SA experience.
I checked out Lush too based on the Guide and they are so interesting but overall not my cup of tea – I liked Rentless best
Today was the time to wear Cedro di Diamante from Perris Monte Carlo. It’s a sweeter kind of citrus that after a while becomes more zesty and tangy. Great for today’s 32*C
Ooh, I want to find that one to try it! May be a trip to Neiman-Marcus is in my near future (I know they carry the line).
I am wearing a tiny bit of Shiseido Inoui, which I forget that I have due to rushed mornings. It is a lovely green, herbal jasmine with a decent amount of oakmoss.
Robin: if you are taking suggestions for tomorrow, I think you and I both bought V&A Bois d’Iris at the same time and quit wearing it regularly around the same time.
Do you have iris perfumes you now like better? I had been interested in sniffing this one, except once I splashed out on L’Attesa I told myself to take an iris break.
Aedes de Venustas Iris Nazarena and Lutens Iris Silver Mist are my two most loved iris’s. Guerlain Après L’Ondée, Le Labo Iris 39, and Dior Homme are also favorites.
Oh no! L’Attesa is my current iris favorite :-/ hope you can get back to enjoying iris notes again soon!
No fear, Koyel! I meant a *shopping* iris break, as I am currently enjoying the heck out of L’Attesa.
Monkeytoe, but I finally gave mine away, so I haven’t got any to wear! Otherwise it would be perfect so thank you anyway.
Wearing Elixer des Merveilles. I drained the generous sample on vacation in England a couple of summers ago and then bought a 50 ml after I came home, and have used maybe 5 ml since. It might be too close to Fleurs de Sel and Midnight in Paris, or that I don’t like salty perfumes as much as I thought I did.
All the Merveilles turn SOUR, on my skin. Caps required, YMMV. ????????
EEEK, sour! At least the Ambre still hasn’t turned on me, although it’s the one time an Hermes is a mite strong and really doesn’t need to be.
Huh. So so so so many perfumes turn sour on my skin but the Merveilles are not amongst them. (They do, however, only last about 60 seconds on me, though.)
Elixir is my favourite of them all!
Commando no more!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDT
This had been a strong like (using Petunia’s scale) from the get-go and remains there. It is a mainstream Chanel and is easily found everywhere that Chanel perfumes are sold.
I was annoyed at a barista at a fake Starbucks (essentially, one run by our food services vendor instead of company-owned). The baristas know what I drink in the morning as I am a creature of habit – a tall red-eye with a lot of room for milk (the room is really so that I get the buzz of the espresso shot much quicker than having to consume the filled to the top content. 4 our of 5 times, they get it right. So, today, I made it a point to mention “a lot of room for milk” and the barista said “yes, I know”. When I got my order, it was filled to the brim. You should have seen the smoke coming out of my head! I eventually got a new one prepared. It had happened elsewhere too and some baristas looked at me funny as they pour some of the liquid out — you would think that THEY should know it’s not the same as having a lower volume of regular coffee to begin with. Anyway, I complained to the manager
In other news, I am taking off next Thursday and Friday to enjoy a nice long weekend. I will be spending part of that time going through my stuff to select items to donate. My goal is to donate 200 items (and a pair of socks will count as 1). As an incentive, I will reward myself $1 for every 2 items donated up to 200 items; anything above 200 items will be $1:1. The total will be my budget for the split meet (joining others, not the ones I’m hosting). Sounds like a plan? Good! Wish me luck!
The Starbucks I USED TO frequent are so insanely crowded, that they take the JOY out of caffeine consumption. ????????Almost. ☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕☕????????????
And good luck! ????????????????????????
Ha! 4 years kater, I am still BITTER about Gregory’s changing its rewards program without ANY notice. I may have just been back once in the past 4 years.
I greatly dislike Starbucks. All of them. Terrible service and mediocre coffee. BUT! Happy that you are no longer commando! Pretty sure hajusuuri – perfume + (bad Starbucks juju) = the end of the world as we know it. Good luck with your doantions✌????
I recently had a very good latte at Starbucks. A rare occasion indeed.
I used to go there a lot as they really are ubiquitous in Seattle, and particularly just outside of town, there are lots of drive-throughs, which I very much appreciate (and miss.) They also made one of the few decaf beans I could drink – and I say that in the past tense as most stores recently stopped carrying it.
The lack of stores where I’m living now more or less forced me to try other options, and I’ve found a local place I love that makes a delicious decaf bean that’s truly decaf. I am thrilled.
Good for you! Happy you found a bean that agrees with you. There’s a local bagel shop here that I discovered the first week I was in town. I’m not a coffee snob and will drink pretty much anything, but when I tried the coffee from this place, I was pretty delighted. I forget the brand of bean they use, but next time I visit, I will make a note of it because the coffee was that good.
I only drink decaf and one that works for me can be hard to find. Smaller roasters generally only make 1 option, and I’ve found that the smaller companies’ decaf is not always entirely decaffeinated.
One thing that doesn’t seem to exist in Cleveland is the coffee card. I had no idea that was just a Seattle (or west coast) thing. No earning free drinks!! (If you ask about such a thing, they’ll look at you like you’re nuts.)
Too funny with the equation and thanks on the luck. I want to be smart about what I cull. I am sure I don’t need 30 scarves.
Sounds like a great way to get ready for splitmeet!
Yes! I’m not sure how far I’ll get with the perfumes but I for sure will be able to offer freebies from the great purge!
That’s a great plan! Good luck executing it Inspired by you, I’ve been keeping a tally of how much I’m spending on perfume this year so I can donate 2x that amount of money to charities this winter. Uh, looks like I’ll be giving a LOT…. >.< I guess something good is coming out of my foolishness at least!
Yay on the double matching! Does your company match your donations ?
Yeah, up to like…$2000 or $3000? Not a huge amount, but respectable.
We have a global giving day where our contributions are double-matched up to $2,000 so I make sure to give then too!
Good luck on the project!!
Thank you! I hope I didn’t bite off more than I can chew!
I love your plan and wish you lots of success. After a summer spent in a minimally furnished sublet, our own house looks completely overstuffed now and I came home with ambitious plans to finally to finally tackle donations and a bunch of ebay and craigslist listings – but got a nasty cold instead. Now I shall take inspiration from you for this weekend!
I hope you get over your cold quickly. I’m glad I inspired you to proceed with what you’ve set out to do. I may set aside some for selling although it is the lowest priority.
Go you on your donation project! You are totally going to kick major butt on that.
Thank you, Jalapeno. My walk in closet needs serious intervention!
Awesome idea! You inspired me to get back to the hall closet, and donate the coats the kids have outgrown. I have no idea why I’ve held on to them so long.
Hooray! I’m glad I was able to inspire you! I have decisions to make about outerwear – what if this what if that!
I like Starbucks coffee but it doesn’t like me. They must have found a way to put extra caffeine in their coffee and I like to sleep at night. At least a few hours. I’m sensitive to caffeine so I need to stick with DD or other wimpy brands.
Smelling purdy today in No. 19!
BTW, I would love more info about Bonheure (sp?). Unlucky Scent is out of samples. Boo! Do you think that it leans masculine? And anything else you would like to share? Read the SH write up and hoping to squash the instant lemming it created. ????
Hey Petunia! If a Dunkin’ Donuts were to be closer, I would go occasionally. I do still prefermStarbucks.
Bonheur is incensey although not particularly masculine to my nose but YMMV. I did not get much of the vanilla / tonka drydown likely because I did not wear it long enough to get to that point. I may pair this with a tiny spritz of Tihotato get the vanilla from the get-go. I may be able to share my sample ????
Thanks for that information! So, it sounds to me like it wasn’t a love for you upon first impression?
First impression was great and I am making arrangements to obtain a partial bottle. I’m always looking for ways to add oomph to a perfume, even one that is a love!
I’m in another perfume from my Makeup Alley days, Leslie Blodgett Bare Skin. Does anyone remember this one and still have/wear it? It’s a 2009 release that was exclusive to Sephora, but it still can be found on eBay. I remember blind buying it from eBay back in its day for a good price. It’s a warm sandalwood, anise and musk sun-warmed-skin scent wirh great longevity.
It’s more of a neglected love than a demoted perfume. I’m having a hard time coming up with those because I try pretty hard to get rid of perfumes that don’t “do it” for me anymore. What happens most often is perfumes that I still really enjoy don’t get enough wear because of how many damn perfumes I have!
Is she the Bare Minerals founder ?
They had a KoP bnm with nice oils that I never got around to purchasing. ????
Yes, that is she!
I remember Bare Skin in it’s early days. They used to have a mini-fragrance bar in their stores!
I remember loving the signature scent. I think a very close rendition is Summer Musk or China Musk by Terra Nova perfumes.
It was perfectly fall-like this am: cool and dry and sunny. SOTD is BF Fontevraud which feels autumnal. I’m on just on the edge of obsession with this one.
I’m on the edge of obsession with BF. Period. I need to try the rest of his line.
I do like much (not all) of his stuff. And the ones I have, I love! I’m finding this one really addictive..
Having purchased not the most recent version of the discovery set, I’ve thunked Monserrat and Feu Secret, am ready to swap or give Five and Room 237, and plan to hold onto Lampblack for reference (can’t decide whether I like vetiver).
Also thunked my Au Dela Narcisse sample, and midway through the Unsettled (can’t decide how much I like sandalwood).
I’ve worn Fontevraud once and I’m definitely enamored of it. A tropical Mitsouko. I agree fall feels like the right season for it.
BF is quality and I find the visual imagery really compelling. I might invest in an FB, but not sure which.
Great choice! You smell fantastic. ????
Thanks! It’s definitely a theoretical fb purchase.
Brief description? I’ve looked at a lot of his stuff but never taken the plunge.
I’m wearing Nirvana White, the last of a sample. I like it well enough that I also have a mini.
Robin, that clip took my recent nostalgia to a whole new level. Jeez, I wouldn’t say I want to relive my whole life, just from 1965 to 1979…????
I’m still wearing the elephant because I’m apparently anti-CP this week. I haven’t worn this in so long that I forgot how good it is. Or, maybe is just my way of encouraging fall to hurry up and get here. Whatever, it’s delicious!
I went to the bike store and bought a brain bucket yesterday and asked the guy about beginner trails in the area. He gave me some good ideas that I probably never would have found on my own. I asked him about the trails I scoped out the other day north of town..This was his response…
“No. You’ll die.”
He said that with a straight face, so I guess better abide by his wisdom. In other good news, my van build guy will be here in two weeks to start the van build. I’m in the process of ordering flooring, solar supplies, batteries (expensive!),etc. So stoked to get this going! He thinks 2-3 weeks to complete. On my days off I will doing menial chores to help out but not mess anything up. Here’s to hoping I learn a little bit! ????
Happy Almost Friday Day! Tomorrow I’m back to work. Boo Hiss!!
Looking forward to seeing pictures of the safer trails ????
Yes, I’m hoping to hit one of the trails he mentioned late this afternoon. It leads to a place called “Hole in the Wall” which must be semi-interesting with a name like that. Photos will follow, of course. ????????
I have to wonder what he meant by that… It is very much open to interpretation LOL. Maybe not so much in-person?
Well, pretty sure he looked at me and was genuinely concerned. I have chunked up nicely in the past year and half and become incredibly unfit in a short period of time. This has happened to me before- sometimes I just go off the rails for a while and then settle back down into a routine.
It was/is quite difficult to get an exercise routine when the way you live your life changes so drastically. It’s quite a learning curve, but I’m sure I will get a handle on it. Eventually. I’m pretty resilient. ✌????
LOL, okay! I figured as much but only because that’s my usual response to every physically challenging situation
And also to every potential encounter with the wild.
I bet you have built up more muscles than you are ever thought!
You know, I just got back from a ride, and I was pretty happy with my muscle memory! I just need to whittle off some of the layers on top of the muscle ????
The Elephant is good stuff! I have yet to try my sample in the heat… maybe I should. Assuming that I don’t get distracted by all the other “Shiny!” samples, etc.
Way to go with you life plans!
Paul Newman has a camp in CT, I think, called the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. It’s a first rate all expenses paid camp for children with life-threatening illnesses. There are also some weeks when siblings of kids with life-threatening illnesses go as well but they don’t mix. I may have mentioned that one of my nieces has a very rare congenital blood disorder. She’s doing well but has a life-long dependency on synthetic clotting factors which she manages herself. When I hear criticism of big Pharma being greedy, I always think there’s the flip side of the coin where were it not for their generosity, my sister and brother in law would have been bankrupt once the lifetime cap of $2MM from my sister’s work insurance was reached. Thank God big pharma donated all that my niece needs. OK, I get emo when I think about how much my niece has accomplished considering what she has is “not compatible with life.”
Wow, what a story of bravery and resilience regarding your niece! Kids confronting things like this just make me an emotional wreck, too, and I’m not even related. I can’t imagine how hard it is on family.
I think just about everything in life is a double edged sword. There are so many perspectives and personal experiences to any single situation…
Second that Deva. You say it so well.
Wow. I don’t think I have ever heard of them donating meds. If you don’t mind me asking, how did that happen? That’s great to hear.
It was a combination of the hematologist and the insurance company working with Big Pharma.
Wouldn’t it be nice to just pick a 10 or 15 year span to redo? I would go for that.
In By Kilian Straight to Heaven today, and I smell GREAT! A kind NSTer sent me a decant of this, and I wasn’t particularly interested in it the first couple times I tried it. I noticed the perfume level was much lower than it should’ve been, given how rarely I’ve tried it, and I thought I would wear it today before it all evaporates away. Today, it smells fabulous So I guess I’m doing the opposite of the CP today.
Tonight, I’m going to department stores with a friend to help her pick out a new fragrance. She’s been wearing DKNY Golden Delicious until now, and wants a new perfume or two to shake things up. Suggestions of things to try? I think we’re going to Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales, if that gives you an idea of what scents we’ll find (I have no idea what to expect).
In honor of our perfume hunt in fancy department stores, I’m back on Project Dress Nicely, but just for the day Pulled my suede boots out of hiding to help with the cold weather!
How fun! I love taking others perfume shopping
Hermes Un Jardin sur le Toit might be worth giving a shot. It is very lovely green floral with pear.
Maybe some of the Jo Malones might work?
SotD = PHI Une Rose de Kandahar
Inspired by Bear’s scent choice today. Thank you, Bear!
I have fallen into the “oh, just a few more samples is ok” trap and have a pile that needs some love and attention. This is one of them. It’s a beauty. Cinnamon does great things in perfume.
You and Bear are On Point with the perfume today! I need to wear this soon…
thanks, Deva! PHI is a great one.
Whoo-hoo-hoo! Go Team PHI.
I think you are right about cinnamon – used well it is truly transforming – but if it’s not perfect it puts me off so much. A dangerous tightrope to walk!
I wore 34 boulevard saint germain a few days ago. It also has cinnamon, and you’re right, when that note is nicely balanced it is wonderful.
I was wondering aobut 34 Boulevard saint germain, what’s the dry down like?
It sounds like there’s an awful lot going on with that one!
34 blvd has a little funk in the woodsy dry down. I love it.
I gave the mini to my daughter for her birthday – but secretly, I covet it! I don’t love all Tauers, but this one is really nice.
I don’t love all Tauers either (very few, in fact) but ITA. It’s unique, and a true beauty.
you’re a super perfumista mom! The PHI mini is on my wish list, but I must use up my sample first, hahaha
My bottle is missing in action. I will find it with my great purge (of mostly non-perfume).
After wearing Une Rose Vermielle, I am wearing vintage Jicky edt. I had forgotten how Une Rose Vermielle has the lasting power of uranium on skin.
I’m sampling Onda edp and the Voile d’extrait. I think I’m in love with the edp. They both end up in the same place after the opening, but the voile has something early on that I don’t care for, whereas the edp is just swoonworthy from the start (and I don’t even like vetiver, it must be the honey I like). Deva, have you tried this?
If there’s enough interest, I’ll split a bottle during the splitmeet.
Yes, I’ve tried the edp and the vde both, but I much prefer the vde. It will be the perfume I never own, which makes me sad. I’m trying to look at it as an exercise in restraint and non-attachment (which is against my inherent religion!) so I don’t end up old and bitter. Maybe this loss will make me wise and humble. Maybe not. ????
I’m quite sure you’ll find takers if you do a split. A full bottle is out of my comfort zone, price wise. I’m sure others feel the same, but would jump at the chance of a decant from a split.
In the second of my Satori samples, inspired by the new Perfumes The Guide 2018, Hana Hiraki. Luca Turin calls it a “melon floral. . . from another planet,” and gives it the coveted 4 stars. This baby turns out to be way too alien for me. I get cantaloupe/honey dew and vitamins, not in a good way.
Repeating my APB: Desperate fumie! Anyone have decants or bottles of Stephen Jones edt that they are bored with and want to jettison for trade or purchase? Please let me know: ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie ner
I tried several Satoris a year or so ago, and wasn’t captivated at that point (but I only had dauber samples, and haven’t retested in other seasons). The one that intrigued me, actually, was Wasanbon, the one LT did not like. I thought the opening really did evoke some kind of very special sugar, which it is intended to evoke.
OF – if you happen to find a bottle of Stephen Jones, I’d love to split!
Nothing to do with Pluto, but I am testing Amouage Fate Woman (2013) today. It reminds me strongly of something else, and I finally realized it’s Thierry Mugler Orient Express (2014).
I’ll have to do a side-by-side test later to see how accurate that is. Has anyone else tried both of these and noticed any similarity (or not)?
Correction, that should be Oriental.
Oh, hey now, let us know your results! I have a FB of Fate, which I LURVE, and have been interested in OE, but if they’re similar, it’s a dead lemming. ????
I love OE! It’s too expensive to buy without sampling, though.
I own bottles of both, love both scents.
Fate is powdery with a definite daffodil/narcissus note,on my skin.
OE is iris, vanilla, sandalwood, but NOT powdery.
YMMV, they aren’t redundant to me. ????????????????
Oh, my lemming has been resurrected…????
LOL ???? ????
I definitely get daffodil/narcissus from Fate Woman, too. Also a decent hit of spice from that.
I adore both scents, but on me they are different. I needed both in large quantities.
Thanks, everyone — not side by side, but wearing Oriental Express this evening it does smell different to me. It’s not sweet, and after wearing Fate earlier in the day, it feels like it’s almost going in a leather direction, relatively speaking. I also feel like Fate has changed my perception of OE, which is weird. I would also say that Fate had a certain fresh-balsamic axis that I associate with Laura Biagiotti Roma, for example. Still need to do the side by side, maybe scent strips in different rooms.
Wearing L’instant de Guerlain – the 30ml bottle of this is so cute!
630 this morning, me and daughter running down the sidewalk screaming for the bus to stop. I haven’t ran since, idk… grade school. He stopped. Probably because he couldn’t miss my giant hair in the review mirror… Coco Noir for me today.
Omg! You’re killing me! ????????????
and thanks for the rec…starting watching Christofer and Eugene..they are Canadian, right? love love love their accents!
Yep, Toronto area, I think. Is Eugene back up?
I don’t think so but I watched the videos of the two of them from Kristofer’s youtube channel. He seems to collaborate a lot with Eugene. Kind of like Carlos (Brooklyn Fragrance Lover) and Steve (Redolessence).
LOL! You made my day! ????????????
Hey, if nothing else, I smell good, and am good for a laugh????????????❤ you guys are great!
Good thing you were able to catch the bus drivers’ attention! The last time I ran, I think I said something along the lines of “I’m too old for this bleep”!
Lol! You and me both!
Thanks for that fun visual! ????
I was perusing my perfume drawer for an on-theme bottle, got distracted, and ran across PHI, which seemed like a lovely idea. NOT participating!
I am almost violently dizzy for some reason. (Sinus issues, perhaps?) And starting to get hungry. What does one eat when dizzy and nauseated… probably pizza, right? Ugh.
Lol! But ugh. Sounds like a disturbing combination of symptoms. I vote for lying down. I hope you feel better!
I’ve found that if I don’t move, I’m okay. I had vertigo for about 15 years but it’s been a while. I think that’s what’s going on. How did I deal with this on a daily basis? My sinus issues have been really bad out here. UGH
Spicy Chinese. That’s what I crave with migraines….
Spicy food makes everything better! It’s going to be fried chicken with all the sides. (Fried chicken also makes everything better )
Feel better Kpaint!
Thanks, pl67! There’s always tomorrow.
Dizzy and nauseated is a horrible combination. I was going to suggest egg drop soup with fresh chilies sliced into it. That’s one of my go-tos for when I’m not feeling well.
Yes pizza…but I’m good with pizza ANYTIME!
I like a super-caloric milkshake, if I really SHOULD eat but don’t feel like it. Vanilla. ????????
My sinus issues make me very dizzy and foggy in the head, and it’s hard to eat. I usually try to eat bread and some protein.
Hello everyone, I got my gift to myself box from Luckyscent of the MFK “Fragrance Wardrobe for Her,” and honestly it was the best most fun present to open! Everything in it just spoke of luxury and care. Made me feel I’d chosen a good treat for myself! Plus, they included no fewer than SIX really nice and interesting samples, some I’ll have to report on later. So far I’ve sampled all three of the Aqua scents–as expected, they are pleasant, unobtrusive, summer-light, and fun. Nothing that would knock me out (or anyone else for that matter). I wore one to my doctor’s office this morning and even though he came really close to give me a shot in my shoulder (all of my joints are crumbling!) he didn’t comment. Then again he’s kind of old and gruff, and not the type. I’m looking forward to trying some I’ve never sampled, plus now I have nice sized travel sprays of two I know I like–Oud Satin Mood and Baccarat Rouge 540. They are all in pretty, delicate colors too, and the array of pastels plus gold letters and caps is just making me happy. I hope I never fall out of love with FK because it’ll just be a real pity!
Yay to self-gifts!
Your enjoyment is making me vicariously happy!
Love this – such fun!
How cool! ????
I haven’t commented in a while – after we finally got back to the US I got a cold and couldn’t smell much – but today I’m perfumed, and Bulgari Eau the noir, which I had tested before (it’s a 5 star in the new guide) and liked alright, but when I saw it for $20 at TJ Maxx, I bought it, and fully spritzed, it is wonderful!
I made it my mission over the summer to try as many of the 5 star scents as possible and mostly succeeded except for some hard to find stuff, and nothing had bowled me over – but perhaps I should have used a heavier hand. Anyhow, they had eau the rouge as well, and the shower gels, all on clearance.
That’s a great deal! Nice buy
That’s a major mission! Also a reminder that our response to perfume is almost entirely emotional (from my perspective, anyway.) While I trust the Guide’s noses (and always have fun reading them), their loves are rarely mine – and vice-versa.
That was my experience too
Very nice deal at TJ Maxx! ????
I own bottles of both, love both scents.
Fate is powdery with a definite daffodil/narcissus note,on my skin.
OE is iris, vanilla, sandalwood, but NOT powdery.
YMMV, they aren’t redundant to me. ????????????????
Bear what scent is OE?
Mugler’s Oriental Express.
Thanks, had figured it out in the meantime.
I’ve just figured it out, your comment got posted in two places.
I happen to prefer OE.
Wearing Eau du Fier which is as close to Lapsang Souchong as perfume can get. Lapsang with apricots that is. Love it, and just can’t get enough of sniffing myself having spent most of my day without scent. Forgot to put any on this morning.
Tea is Sorbet Gourmand from Palais des Thés, a very good-humoured and summery flavoured green tea.
I’m certain l’Artisan has a strong Lapsang Souchong . . . Tea for Two? Or some such.
Not nearly as like Lapsang as Eau du Fier. More of a spicy scent. I have a bottle, but Fier is way bolder.
Agree with that…actually Tea for Two didn’t remind me much of any tea at all.
It’s a shame that Eau du Fier is discontinued. You smell amazing!
It is, but it didn’t sell, and some of the materials are no longer allowed. I’m so glad I got my bottle when I did, even though I don’t wear it that often, I would hate to not be able to smell it.
Heading to join a big group tonight so am in Fragonard Jasmin Perle de Thé that my sis brought back from a trip a couple of years back. This grew on me and helped me start to like tea scents more. Shouldn’t bother anyone I hope.
Sounds like a perfect choice!
I have just looked at this site today as I have been non-stop busy at work. The nice thing that did happen to me today is that my bottle of Aedes de Venustas Musc Encens arrived today (my belated birthday present to myself) and it is a beautiful fragrance!
Happy late birthday! Enjoy!
Happy birthday! I just got a small decant of Musc Encensé, it is lovely. Great choice!
Congrats on your belated b-day gift! ????
Happy birthday. I’m very envious of your gift.
Happy birthday! Enjoy your beautiful perfume! ????
It’s a perfect late summer day, weather-wise, for me. Sunny, and 79F, which is around 26C. But I am in A Mood today, and not fully able to enjoy said weather. Got some sad news from a friend yesterday, and it has been on my mind since. A relative of hers passed away. It seemed kind of sudden to me, but I don’t know the backstory. Sigh.
SOTD = Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black. I have a rather nice travel spray that was a VIB giveaway from Sephora. I like Black, but even 30mL of it is too much for me, I think. It’s a pity that the travel sizes are rollerballs instead of sprays, or I would have purchased one a while ago. So I’m sorta on track for the CP?
I really really wanted to love Black. I think my first mistake was not realizing it had vanilla which just does not work on my skin. My niece got the handoff though and loves it.
Not pleasant finding out the hard way that a perfume has something in it that just does not like you one bit! Good thing it worked out for your niece.
I would have bought a few of the Nirvanas if they were available in spray pens.
Me too! I think they are missing out.
You are a good friend. It’s hard to hear disturbing news from someone you care about. I hope that your friend is okay and take care of yourself!
I will know more about her emotional state probably next week. I don’t want to pester her with questions right before the funeral. But I feel better having mentioned the situation here.
Sometimes just listening is enough.
I am so sorry! (and yes, not least because we waited SO long for this perfect weather)
I had a long day so late to the party. SOTD was Apollo Hyacinth. This scent is so much prettier in warm weather
It sounds like you don’t have any regrets wearing that one today. ????
Nota one. I hope that you are okay? The older I get, the more upsetting I find this type of news.
Yeah, I think I am. Thanks for asking.
