Whew, Friday is here! And it's the Buck Moon aka Thunder Moon tonight, plus, it's a blood moon. Our community project for today: pick your poison for the full moon.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: I went the obvious route, with Tauer Perfumes Sotto La Luna Tuberose.
Reminder: on 8/3, we'll celebrate Peach Month! You know what to do.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Weil Antilope.
After all, one kind of antelope is called a blackbuck.
This was in possibility pile for today. You smell great!
Thank you!
I’m not familiar with your SOTD. What’s it like?
My sample is a vintage version (PDT, I think), so I have no idea how the modern version smells.
To my nose it is a herbal/leathery/woody/aldehydic/chypre scent. I struggle to describe it. It reminds me of other old-school aldehydic scents (aldehydes are warm and soothing here), but it’s much less floral than an average floral aldehyde. I can easily imagine it on a man.
Thank you! That sounds pretty darn good!
I sat outside for a long while last night, enjoying the moon and Mars. Hope to have good views tonight as well.
I’m wearing the last of my decant of Barbara Bui.
TGIF!!!
We had a great view here last night also. Should have one again tonight as the skies are pretty clear today.
I’ll think of you and all of our other lovely, fragrant NSTers as I moon-watch tonight! 🙂
Hello, stargazing twin from last night! ⭐???? I’m glad I went outside then… it’s raining now, and probably won’t clear up for a while.
That photo is breathtaking.
SOTD is jasmine absolute and neroli combined. And a spray of Greylocke on my shirt.
I like that one too. (and I’m sure you smell fantastic)
Smelling good! ????
Full moon calls for Tubereuse Criminelle, one sinister beauty. Sadly, it doesn’t last on me very long, but I’m game to reapply. 🙂
spray away!
And waft this way!
Hello Hello
Today is my fasting day, so I do not wear perfume (or makeup)
I am going to the New Museum today to see The Mother Tongue exhibit
I can still smell the Chanel Tendre flanker on my dress from yesterday. Beautiful.
If I might ask, are you fasting for health reasons? I’ve been reading a lot of studies about how prolonged fasting (as well as some forms of intermittent) benefits various systems in the body, and have myself done some fasting to try and trigger these types of positive changes.
Lisa,
I do intermittent fasting and I feel much better for it. Granted, I have three digestive auto-immune diseases, but my system needs the rest and overall, I feel far better, less brain fog, reduced fatigue, less joint pain.
Less joint pain you say? Please tell me more about your fasting ritual. Water only? How many days?
I fast two different ways.
The easiest is I consume clear broths (miso or veggie are my favorites) and juices (kale, ginger, lemon & apple) for only for 24 hours. Nothing solid.
The other method I fast is, four days a week, I eat a diet of 1400 calories broken into two main meals (breakfast and lunch with a snack at 2pm), I eat nothing after 3pm on that day.
On the other three days, I eat 950 calories distributed the same way, and eat nothing after 3pm.
At any given time, I drink 60-80 ounces of water.
I have three digestive autoimmune diseases with related joint pain, resting my system by eating light actually relieves a lot of the pain (for me).
It’s strange, but I actually have more energy on the days I’m fasting and only consuming liquids. But given I’m not eating the entire time I’m hospitalized (normally for three days every 10-12 weeks) I’m accustomed to not eating.
It’s no fun, I wouldn’t wish my situation on anyone but I make the most of it. I’m fortunate my UCSF nurses are so wonderful, I make them cookies and banana nut bread to take my mind off the unpleasant things. 🙂
I’ve been reading the research and listening to interviews by Valter Longo, and have been intrigued by it/them. I am prone to a little bit of biohacking, as long as it is not too extreme and doesn’t put me in danger. I’m also at the point in my life where I am trying to make a real difference in the quality of my later years.
Sounds like IF works well for you – that’s wonderful!
I fast for spiritual reasons. Usually once or twice a month.
I know many people who have said fasting for health reasons has helped them. Bravo Smokeytoes & Lisa D for participating in fasting. Its very hard. Especially when I am making dinner and lunch for my family and not eating!
Now not having coffee is another matter entirely. I am *not* fun without coffee. Even my cat SmokeyToes is scared of me! 🙂
Sampling Tobacco 1812 from West Third Brand which is a slightly fruity and sweet tobacco scent.
I like the “smell good daily” tag line!
I went for the obvious today wearing Moon Bloom.
For CM8, I’ll finish off this sample today! (Although it’s only a dabber so more of a ping than a thunk)????
🙂 It counts as a “thunk” in my book!!!!
????
I also put on a tiny dab of Moon Bloom this morning! It’s mostly already gone though. This evening I’ll actually spray it. 🙂
I had to be up extra early for work this morning and got to enjoy a very low, very yellow moon.
I used monoi oil first then poured at least half of the dabber of MB onto myself. I know it has poor longevity but I can still smell it. I’ll top off at noon to keep the good times rolling.
I agree with CM8… using up a sample produces a “THUNK”!
Iris Silver Mist, because it just seems like a full moon scent.
That is a very good call. You smell great!
yes! and it also goes beautifully with the photo above 😉
Silver…perfect.
Nice!
Nice!
I decided to try my sample of Memo Moon Fever. Kind of a sweetish honey, hay, and tea scent with some nondescript floral notes. Not bad, but not one of Memo’s best scents.
I did not love that one either. Which do you think is their best?
I’m fragrance-free today as I’m rushing around finishing odd jobs & getting organised for my London long weekend starting with a flight which means my alarm is set for stupid o’clock tomorrow morning! Main decision is which sample to take with me – as ever, I’m travelling light with hand baggage only. My standby for other recent rips has been Perfumer H Rose Green, basically because of the very generous sample size given to me a couple of London visits ago, but other samples I have ‘blagged’ lately are Hermes Muguet Porcelaine (I love lily of the valley) & Myrrhe Eglantine (which I think the chap gave me because when he asked I told him I was wearing Rose Green), Dior Cachemere (no idea why the chap in Frasers in Glasgow gave me this one!), Penhaligon’s Blasted Bloom & the freebie roll-on of Privet Bloom which the lovely lady I dealt with in New York popped in with my order of a bottle which was posted to friends in Seattle we were going to visit a couple of years ago (Space NK no longer have it & they were my only option in the UK). Given the prospective London weather, I’m thinking the Muguet Porcelaine or Privet Bloom, for freshness’ sake – untried ones above are Myrrhe Eglantine & Cachemere, & I’m thinking hot & sticky weather would not be good for an initial tryout of either!
Enjoy your trip!
Thank you so much.
I think Myrrhe Eglantine is nice in heat, but possibly not as easy as the other two.
Have a great time, and good luck getting up on time!
Thank you for your input – I’m now intrigued by Myrrhe Eglantine (which I will try sooner rather than later given what you said) but have gone with Privet Bloom, purely because it’s the one I’ve had for the longest. Currently have thunder, lightning & torrential rain here in Aberdeen, been going on for a few hours, & if it continues I may be kept awake by the noise! Have had quite a few stupid o’clock starts to my various excursions this year, so am well used to it, but your good luck wishes are appreciated.
Ugh, hope you ended up getting some sleep despite the storm!
Indeed I did, thank you.
Safe travels and good luck beating the London heat!
In the Hampshire countryside with friends this pm, evening & tomorrow morning – definitely cooler than it has been, thankfully, so hope that continues at least tomorrow, if not until I leave Tue pm (she remarked selfishly!). Thank you for your good wishes.
Good morning, and Happy FriYAY!!!!
A beautiful full moon deserves a beautiful fragrance, so I didn’t even spend 2 seconds deciding on one. Chanel No 5 EdT is it!

Have a great weekend everyone! I am doing something I NEVER, EVER thought I’d be doing….taking my middle kid to a Repticon show to choose a pet snake for her belated birthday wish. Motherhood takes a person to places unknown and unexpected. My only stipulation was that it has to be a snake that stays SMALL and SKINNY! LOL No creatures allowed in the house that can get big enough to eat other family members….. 🙂
Great photo!
Good luck with the snake! And I hear you on those places unknown and unexpected.
You are brave. And a good mom!
Tipping my mom hat to you, Jada. ????
It should be said that my hubby was not completely on board with it, and has declared that when Middle Kid goes to college, the snake care will be 100% my job. LOL He says I’m living out MY childhood pet dreams thru the middle kid….and he’s probably right! 🙂 We have quite the zoo at our house!
Good luck! I’m find of snakes and wouldn’t mind one myself were it not for the frozen pinkies they eat ????
You are so brave! I have friends with a 12 and 15-ft snake. To overcome my fear I picked up the larger one. I’m glad I did it but once in a lifetime is enough for me! 🙂
Oh kudos to your kiddo for the snake love! They are amazing creatures. When I was a young thing, I was the snake whisperer. Friends would find injured snakes, bring them to me, I would take them to the vet, keep them to fatten them up, and release them in a safe place where the environment wasn’t subject to development, etc.
I had a 5ft Florida King Snake (endangered) when my brother got married. We had company from all over the U.K. come, and one of my uncles got my room. Pretty sure he didn’t sleep a wink! ????
What a good mom. Happy belated birthday to the snake lover.
What’s the lifespan of a snake? Do they need a lot of space so they can move around. Good luck!
I believe the one she is hoping to get (a rosy sand boa) gets about 3 feet in length, and lives around 20 years with good care! It will start in a 10 gallon tank for a while, then 20 gallon as an adult…..
A pet snake! How fabulous. New Zealand has no snakes, and importing them is strictly prohibited, but I did love the idea of a pet snake when I was a kid. In fact, I’d rather like one now, I’ve just googled the rosy sand boa, and they look rather nice.
Moonlight Patchouli. Van Cleef & Arpels.
Great choice!
I almost wore that one. You smell great!
Olivine Atelier More Than the Stars perfume oil. That’s the best I’ve got. This is my favorite from the line though, with top notes of almond, lily and gardenia.
A couple of years ago my husband talked me into a full moon paddle. The one thing that had not occurred to me before we were out on the water was: the bats! Omg, they were everywhere swooping down towards the water eating mosquitos. I could hardly enjoy myself for fear of one getting caught in my hair. Needless to say, that was the first and the last time we will do that! Lol. I will keep my canoeing to the daytime hours.
Moonlight paddling sounds very romantic in theory. ????
Ooooh, I love bats! I used to be a card-carrying member of Bat Conservation International. They are so important for the ecosystem. I can see how they would change the experience of a moonlight paddle, though.
…I would have been more scared of the mosquitoes than the bats!
Oh, the bats would be the attraction for me! But I’m weird that way ????
I’m a batgirl too! Very unlikely they would even bump into you since they ”see” so well. Your hair was in no danger!
I would rather see bats than mosquitoes! Those bugs seem to find me especially tasty, even with bug spray. 🙁
TGIF!!!
This morning I wore Vetiver extraordinaire.
And now I am wearing Jasmin Rouge…
Hmm i guess the ‘rouge’ is a fit for tonight’s red moon. 🙂
Perfect!
Copying Robin a bit here and wearing AT Sotto La Luna Gardenia. It is very strong, so a little spritz will last all day, I am sure.
Hey twin! I am wearing a little dab and even that is going strong.
I’m wearing the next-to-last of my Berdoues discovery set, Arz el-rab. It went on as a straight cedar fragrance. That is really all I’m smelling.
Thunder moon is living up to its name here: we had the most spectacular thunder and lightning late last night. And a glorious downpour (though the heat was back today).
a spot of vintage Miss Dior today…though might change that later. Maybe something red, or black, for the lunar eclipse/blood moon…
I’m guessing that vintage is better/ different than recent formulations? I really like this scent.
I think so. Though the modern “originale” version isn’t too bad at all, the vintage is dryer and has a lot more spine and a lot more sauciness. She’s like the aunt with the *very* interesting history, of the not devant les enfants type…
I apologize in advance for what I’m about to do here. I know it’s a very bad thing, but I’m going to do it anyway.
SOTD is Vilhelm Parfumerie Dear Polly. Buck moon… deer… dear… get it? (I hear your collective groan)
Yawn! TGIF. I’m dialed in to a 7am meeting. We had a fox visit our back deck (YOWP! YOWP! YOWP!) four times last night. A nap may need to happen later.
Right now there are a couple dozen California quail outside my window… Kooky the cat is soooooo excited.
Foxes have an interesting cry / bark / ? I miss hearing them now and then, but maybe not all night!
(Love the Dear/Deer pun. How do you like the fragrance?)
It’s nice… but it’s also Berdoues Assam of India, juiced up a bit. Doesn’t last any longer than the Berdoues, either. Money saved for the rest of you 🙂
Yeah foxes make the strangest noises.
We have foxes in the back yard . . . I believe the YOWP YOWP is the vixen mating call. It does wake you up at night but is nowhere as hair-raising as the *actual* mating sounds. It’s like someone being axe murdered.
Thanks for saving me money! Always a good thing.
Is Kooky doing that weird clackety-clack thing with the jittery mouth? Otto does that when he’s really excited by watching birds. I can also get him to do it in synch with me, if I do it myself. But then, we also try to put each other to sleep by staring at each other, and slowly, repeatedly, closing our eyes. We are bonded, it is true.
Kooky was just whining this time. My husband can get our cats to go to sleep by crooning “sleepy…. sleepy…” at them. Silly furries.
That is incredibly cute.
Groaning with a thumbs up.
I’d be staring at the quail too. I get so excited when I see them. Unbelievably cute.
Especially when they are little! Been ages since I’ve seen a quail.
Tabu Dana
Gorgeous amber, I adore this one. You smell great Bear! 🙂
☕?
Big yay for Friday! Wearing Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Liberte Boheme (which is a mouthful). It’s a soft sweet herbal musk on me, no sharp edges and only very lightly floral despite floral notes being listed. Lovely for summer and the Buck Moon!
Big mouthful, to be sure- but that really sounds lovely for a hot summer night.
Wearing Caleche today for obscure personal reasons. At home there is a picture of me and Primary Partner, taken while we were in Italy, underneath a gorgeous full moon, just as it was rising around twilight. I was wearing Caleche when the picture was taken, so I wanted to put it on again today too.
That’s a nice reason.
Yes. Best reason.
A great association!
DSH Je Suis la Lune today. I’m generally not much of a jasmine fan, but I like this one: jasmine, a milky accord, sandalwood. Very nice.
Ah, I need to find my sample of that!
Wearing Ciel d’Opale, figuring that at least I am celestially focused for the Community Project.
Sounds pretty!
I’m just managing to start a somewhat normal day here with my second cup of coffee. My first normal day in quite a long time. The past few days after my surgery have been pretty rough due to a combination of pain and awful side effects of pain medications. I’ve quit the meds and am starting to feel better. I had so much nausea that I couldn’t put on any perfume. Pretty awful eh. I will try some today but haven’t made up my mind yet what to try, it’s got to be something kind of mild. I’ve got a home health care worker coming today. Had to work up courage to give myself a shot in the stomach this morning (for blood clots) and will do it for 3 weeks. This ain’t fun. Anyway, but on the CP, here’s a favorite moon picture of mine: https://www.flickr.com/photos/94283635@N00/2769784914/in/photolist-Jvxu1W-25nX6fn-26EjZtk-o6pRmv-iqtXhe-doHESk-crsfm1-aXx4aF-a3PpUR-a2rXzE-9jWazf-8DuVuc-7GsVrX-7GsVsH-6eodtm-5YRYEg-5P6BcN-5dKSyj-4nTJxC-4fBG6u-dV9nc-4fso9b-2megfY-z9uF3-jjcm4-2wwTy-7oye-jpgL
Ugh, so sorry you’re experiencing such nausea post-surgery. I hope things subside for you soon.
I have surgical procedures every 8-10 weeks, bland foods (jook porridge or polenta), always help to ease the transition into eating again.
OMG, how can you stand that–I’m feeling guilty about complaining. I did just heat up a can of chicken broth yesterday for lunch.
I’ve gotten used to it. I don’t miss food so much as coffee.
Now missing coffee will make me cranky. 🙂
Really hoping you are feeling better soon.
You are experiencing what I experienced this past winter and spring. It WILL get better, I promise you.
Oh my goodness, shots in the stomach for 3 weeks? So sorry. I had to get those with fertility drugs many years ago, but my husband used to be a physicians assistant, so they were quick and not too painful. Sending hugs and wishes for a quick recovery.
Oh my gosh Calypso I really congratulate you on doing that shot! I had to give my mother insulin shots and that was difficult— and not even ME!!
I applaud you girl, that’s a big one,
sending you best wishes for an easier recovery post meds.
Glad you are able to move off the meds (my sister suffers horrible side effects on those too.). Hoping the shots get easier going forward and recovery speeds ahead!
Moon over the gulf…great photo. I have a book about the gulf on my pile. Go well!
Hey, thanks, I do like that one a lot too!!
Oh my goodness, how scary. Get well soon! Best wishes for the upcoming shots.
Oh, Calypso, that sounds awful! I hope you are fully recovered as soon as possible.
Thanks to everyone for all the support! My new home care health worker came today and I really liked her a lot. Medicare is great! I’ll have someone four times a week and then for three after next week. Luckily she really likes cats, too! I’m still commando though. Not sure I can tolerate having a scent on me that I might not feel comfortable with. I appreciate all the encouragement from everybody!
I shuddered when I read about your shots! Brrrrrrrr! Sending you more good vibes for continued healing.
Bon courage to you, that sounds rough!
Adding my best wishes to you for a speedy, uncomplicated recovery! Glad you got to go home with assistance and that you like your assistant!
Super that you were finally released and that your home health aide is working out.
Today’s SOTD is Tom Ford’s Noir de Noir. I’ve had this bottle for many years, it’s aged quite nicely. Happy Friday all! 🙂
This is really a great fragrance. It’s “the one” that let me see I could something with patchouli notes. And that I could love it.
It’s funny how we all have that one note that we can’t see ourselves wearing until we stumble upon the perfume that seems to work.
The note I never thought I could wear is tuberose – until I spritzed Serge Luten’s Tubereuse Criminelle. The opening menthol note is so compelling it drew me in immediately.
Come to think of it, that might make for an interesting Friday CP poll. 🙂
We did “I Hate…Oh Wait” for a CP (pixel suggested it) a while ago.
Yum- you smell amazing and I bet NdeN has aged wonderfully- my Noir pour femme is freaking perfect and I bought 3 years ago!
I need to try the NPF, I’ve heard good things about that one!
It’s truly wonderful. To wear in hot weather you should do a spritz in light body oil or unscented body gel.
Well aged Noir de Noir sounds fabulous!
I’m wearing Over the Musk today. Musk for Buck, and Over the, for Over the Moon. Lol, actually I just wanted to wear it. I have about 2ml left, but I won’t be draining it. Love it to much to say goodbye right now. I really want to try the body cream. It looks decadent!
Excellent word p!ay! ????
FM Eau de Magnolia because I felt like it, but it does have a certain brightness and luminosity, and a full magnolia can resemble the moon.
Lovely!
And beautiful like the moon
Poetic!
Happy Friday!
1) SOTD: I am in Kai body products: Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and a spritz of Fresh Cream. I got the body products when it was on sale as part of a kit at Nordstrom’s Rack.
2) Speaking of which, Nordie Anniversary Sale y’all: the Donna Karan Cashmere Mist deos are 3/$64! The big Cashmere Mist lotion is $115! Diptyque perfume/candle sets are $72!
Go on, participate in late stage capitalism!
3) Another schorcha this weekend, so beach is called for!
Thanks for the rec on the rosehip seed oil…the middle Marzipan and I are using it as a face serum with jojoba oil…very nice! I got the organic one from NOW Essentials for a really good price at Vitacost (I had a large % off your order coupon so I took advantage of that)
Oh this makes me VERY happy indeed. And NOW essential is a REALLY good supplier of the oils and essences used in so called ‘green beauty’ products.
With two heading to college and the last one going next year (although he is taking college classes over the summer now) I have been on a shoestring budget and can no longer afford Eden Botanicals (they were my go to for many years and the prices have risen astronomically over the past three or so years). I now use all of the NOW products including carrier oils and jojoba oils. I always look for the best prices between All Star Health and Vitacost (which often sends me relatively large percent off codes). While they don’t have the more “exotic” essential oils that Eden does NOW brands have enough to keep me happy. And this summer I am working on enjoying and USING UP some of my essential and carrier oils as well for they all have expiration dates!!!
I didn’t know that essencial oils expire. For how long are they good? I got several last year when you mentioned them to me.
I keep my citruses in the fridge as they tend to breakdown sooner… I try to use them up within two years. However, a few actually get better with time… patchouli can age beautiful. I remember Laurie Erickson advising me to use within a year or two for most essential oils. Perfume or fragrance oils last much longer.
Oh and the carrier oils actually have expiration dates on the bottom of the bottles
I just checked and my Now essential oils have a best by date stamped on the bottom of the bottle
Thank you! I will move the oils to the fridge. Good that you brought the subject up.
Looking forward to a starry, moonlit night -and a glimpse of Mars -for tonight’s Friday night concert-in-the park. Befitting today’s theme and the occasion, I’ll be wearing AG Les Nuits d’Hadrien layered over BBW Italian Citrus Sun. For that Mediterranean vibe, I’ll be inhaling (my arm) deeply, imagining the trees overhead are cypress (not maple), and hoping tonight’s big band sound may include ‘Arrivederci Roma’ or ‘La Mer.’ Skipping the usual margaritas, our picnic basket will include French rose wine, a French baguette, fruit and mixed nuts, and macarons for dessert.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!
A perfect evening!
Ciel Woman because sky plus it’s office friendly. I’m so close to finishing my manufacturer’s sample but realized that the tube for the sprayer doesn’t reach the bottle of the bottle. So I’ve gotten as much out as I can spray and will have to pull off the sprayer and dab the rest. Maybe tonight I’ll wear Moon Bloom or Honey and the Moon, but I didn’t think either were appropriate for my technically scent free workplace.
Last night’s sampling yielded better results though neither was love. I am working my way through the Margiela Replica discovery set. I tried Flower Market and Promenade in the Gardens. Flower Market is nice and reminded me of Ciel light actually. It faded fairly quickly into synthetic nondescript sweet floral. Promenade was a rose patchouli perfume to my nose and reminded me of things I’ve already smelled. It was more deep, complex and long lasting than Flower Market.
I used to have some Honey & the Moon – so nice!
Fabulous theme choice Robin- AND SCENT CHOICE, did you know we have a full lunar eclipse tonite as well?
The biggest in the 21st century says NASA!
WooHoooo!Very cool Robin.Well Done.
My SoTD is L’eau Scandeleuse, Anatole Lebreton.
It is a fitting way to celebrate both!
Ps-
We are off on an adventure w/friends out west today and our trip has been titled “ThunderMoon Ride” in honor
of this theme. So appropriate.
Enjoy the eclipse all.

I only knew it was the buck moon…rest of it was lucky timing 🙂
Chanel No 5 EDC just because. It blooms nicely in the heat. And then Revlon Intimate later back home. She’s got the aldehydes, too.
No ‘blood moon’ frag but then again I don’t think we’re going to have a blood moon tonight what with the thunderstorms and downpour . . . about time, I’d say.
Wearing Songes today. A thank you to whichever commenter it was yesterday who mentioned wearing BWF in the summer. It reminded me to do just that. And since I have the “moon bottle” from way back when, it fits our theme, too!
You smell beautiful in Songes. That moon bottle is pretty too.
Sticking to “Use It Up” I’m trying to clear the samples off the top of the perfume cabinet. Today’s sample is Moonlight in Heaven, a coconut fruit-fest that Kilian probably art-directed in his sleep. I did manage to use up about half the sample, and it has “moon” in the name, so all is good here.
Two-for-one! I am sticking with part 1 and am finishing No. 19. There’s a backup bottle coming out, but like the duplicate bottles I’ve finished this summer I won’t be cracking it open for a bit.
Super late today, didn’t even wake up till about 9am, which is abnormal.
In a big blast of Queen today! She’s been on my mind lately, so I’m once again deviating from the unofficial Use It Up CP. Sorry VT!
I was woken this morning about 130am by what sounded like hyenas laughing! Not too likely in this neck of the woods, so they must have been coyotes. They were laughing and chuckling, no howling per se, and the sound echoed up and down the little canyon/valley I park in at night. T-Rex bolted upright, cocking her this way and that, trying to look out the campertop windows to see what was going on. It was eerie/spooky/cool, and I got up myself to look out the window. The clearing was bright as day, trees and boulders throwing shadows across the landscape created by an amazingly bright moon. No a single stem of grass moved, quiet as a grave. ..
Queen for the win! That stuff is good.
One of my all-time favorite memories is hearing a lion roar in the night. It is LOUD! I mean, you can feel it as well as hear it. And then looking carefully out the window and seeing nothing. Eerie, but wonderful.
I can’t even imagine the roar of a lion in real life! I bet you would feel the vibration! What an amazing experience. I think I’ve heard that the sound can travel miles!?! Were you in a hard sided structure? Or one of those canvas tent things? If so, you are one brave lady! ????????????
I was in a hard-sided structure. Friend of mine, though, was in a tent one night in the Masai Mara when three lions caught and killed a gazelle right outside her tent. ????
We were in a tent in the Serengeti — fortunately on an elevated platform — when a couple of water buffalo decided to have a fight in the middle of the night right outside our tent. The earth shook! I was sure glad to be up above the fray.
Wow-that is quite a safari story. Must have been unnerving.
pixel, that is scary! Those water buffalo are big and bad-tempered.
It really is a sound to behold up close.I’ve spent some time in a guest house in the Free State, the owner breeds white lions.Their camp is circular right around the property,so you are surrounded by lion roars from all sides.A bit scary at night.(Plus lions STINK!!!!! up close!Lol)
Werewolves?
We live in a mountainous region and quite often hear the coyotes howling at night…totally FREAKS ME OUT!!
Smelling good in Queen…I always think of you when I see that one mentioned.
We have them here but U dont here them until the early morning hours…. sometimes if I am up late prattling about my bathroom I hear them calling to each other and it stops me in my tracks.
The hyenas scared me to death when I spent the night in the Kruger Park in South Africa. Fortunately I was in a hard-sided bungalow, but it was unnerving.
Really?Haha! We have some jackals roaming near my estate, you can hear them gnarling and howling at night.
Johano, I just read jackals as jacka$$. Omg, I was so confused! Totally laughing at myself. Stay clear of those jackals!
LOL! ???????????? I think that is absolutely hilarious, lillyjo!
Dang, Deva, I don’t know how you do it. (Saying that in a good way.) Be safe ????
Do what? Camp?
Yesterday a 22 year old motorcyclist traveling east was killed on scene when a pickup truck turned left to travel west right in front of him. Dead, with only 1/3 of his life lived.
We, as a culture, are conditioned to fear nature because we are now so removed from it. Nature is completely objective, shows no favorites, and doesn’t curry favor. While you might get killed if you’re stupid, unlucky, or in the wrong place at the wrong time, nature is not malevolent like some humans. Nor is she a drunk soccer mom barreling down a highway at 80 mph with a load of kids and three sheets to the wind.
For the small percentage of people that might want to mess with a person in my situation (or my dog), I have made plans and preparations.????
It’s not just the nature, it’s the traveling, it’s the self reliance that I am in awe of. Because of my crazy life anxiety, I don’t even drive on the highway anymore. I love reading about your travels, and I cheer you on every day.
Oh, I am your sister in anxiety! ???? I’m afraid of bridges, driving on some of these roads that have a steep drop off and no safety barriers whatsoever! I’m afraid of a dead battery or car trouble on a dark deserted highway at night, I’m afraid of losing my dog, or having either of us injured due to my negligence or ignorance! I’m afraid of rounding a corner and coming across a sow and her cubs, or getting bushwhacked by a mountain lion that has been stalking T-Rex since she is such a delightful mouthful! I’m mostly afraid of the very small percentage of people who like to harm others! See? So we are really the same regarding anxiety. I have learned through life (and some cognitive therapy!) to face these things because I don’t like being controlled by them. The exact reason I gave up smoking! I didn’t like the control tobacco had over me. TMI, I’m sure, but there is nothing extraordinary or brave about me. Just an average gal✌????
Sounds like your noisy “neighbors” might have kept you up a bit!
Yes, it was a bit unsettling because it really sounded like laughing! I made a recording on my phone because it was so unusual, but it’s so faint, it’s hard to hear.
I’ll take neighbors like this rather than screaming drunk families whose shenanigans keep the whole neighborhood up…
I had a friend in college whose family lived up in one of the canyons outside of the Denver metro area. He had a few stories about coyotes and what they could do.
TGIF! I am attending a seminar today and I am counting the hours to be finished.
I sprayed a whole sample of Hanae Mori Magical Moon. I do not find anything magical on this perfume. Super sweet fruity floral. Notes listed are guava, coconut, pineapple, sugar cane, vanilla, patchouli etc. It is more appropriate for colder temperatures. This is a NO for me. CLUNK!
Tonight I will spray on some Bvlgari Au the Bleue, which I find peaceful, matching with the moon pictures posted here and as beautiful as the full moon is. Hope the eclipse gives all a sense of peace, comfort and positive energy.
Take care everyone!
Hooray for another CLUNK and THUNK and for NOT having anything to add to your “want” list 😉
Success! ????
I have some of that and confess to buying it mainly because I really loved that blue bottle.
I just checked the bottle and it is beautiful!
That was a great bottle. I owned it when it 1st came out but it ended being a bit headache inducing so I got rid of it.
I’ve been spraying au the Bleue every night before bed. It really is relaxing for me. I’m kinda addicted to it now.
It is such a peaceful and beautiful scent. Back up bottle worth!
I tried a Hanae Mori perfume a few years ago, and thought that it smelled like strawberry cheesecake. Yummy dessert, but not exactly how I want to smell!
Not on theme yet today. I’ve been reading the new guide (gosh it is cracking good fun!) and the review of Eau de Celeri reminded me how much I liked it but tucked away my sample. Pulled it out this morning, and glad I did as it has been evaporating. I think I’ll be wanting more.
Will likely copy a great idea from you guys and switch to Moon Bloom later for an evening at the horse races. Love those night races, and Moon Bloom should work great out in the din.
Have fun at the races Gi!
We will get to see the total eclipse here around 8am just as the moon sets and the sun begins to rise. To see it I will have to go and find a lookout point somewhere as there is a big hill between me and the horizon. It’s 5am now and the moon is looking nice and full and glowy. I cut my hair yesterday with the kitchen scissors ( the nail scissors were blunt and then I found some purple coloured toner stuff on special in the supermarket and whacked that on. The directions said to leave it for two minutes which didn’t seem like much bang for my buck so I left it for five hours and now my hair is kind of silvery grey with a pale violet rinse, better than grlonde. So now my life is perfect. Journey for me. Fly me to the moon with Astrid G!
6.30 am and the moon is still silvery but it has lost all its brightness …so exciting.
Your new hairdo sounds great 🙂
Yeah….nah! Google “Sharon” from the Australian TV series Kath and Kim
5 hours, LOL…you are my heroine!
Hooray for new hair!
????????
Moon reporter checking in….wow!!!! Not a cloud in the sky and I saw the eclipse from before the first nibble out of the corner until the total eclipse. It was fantastic. It was at its best, for me, when the moon was 3/4 obscured as that was when it went rusty red. After that the sky started getting a bit too light so when the total eclipse arrived the moon just dissolved into the sky, completely faded away with just the palest ghost image. I said hello to all of you, knowing you were wearing moon scents. Then it sank below the horizon and we had a beautiful pink sunrise. So happy to have seen it and glad I got out of bed (I almost couldn’t be bothered).
That sounds wonderful. We live under a hill, so no chance of seeing the moon near dawn, but my mother was planning to get up for a look. I hope she had a similar experience to yours.
Bravo for getting out there and thanks for the report! The hair sounds fun too. 🙂 I love purple.

My photos were rubbish.
How amazing and lucky for you!
I saw some great photos on tonight’s news from your part of the world re: the eclipse.
“silvery grey with a pale violet rinse”? gorgeous!
The moon was obscured by cloud here, so we didn’t see the full eclipse which was around dusk (sunset was about 9.30). It’s raining now, so I think we might be out of luck even for the long drawn out partial…
Astrid Gilberto? She’s in my car’s cd player right now.
Nice! So styley
SOTD is Midnight Patchouli, which although unplanned, sort of works with the community project… moonlight at midnight?
This perfume is reminding me of another perfume (Strike up Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson… “To all the perfumes I’ve loved before. . . “) but darn it I cannot figure which one…. Gah!
Promise this is worth it: Watch this video and every time you hear the word “girls” replace w “perfume.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVq0ONrSH-Q
And now I stand corrected, the Van Cleef and Arpels frag is MOONlight Patchouli… oh my I am slipping!!
To all the perfumes I’ve caressed! So true….
It’s my perfume earworm! But kind of a creepy song (strangely earnest for such braggadocios and smarmy lyrics), but it totally works for me on the level of perfume! 😉
Just so you know…you ruined my morning walk with that tune!! I’m reading An American marriage. Good, eh?
“The sun has set, but night has not yet fallen. It’s the suspended hour… The hour when one finally finds oneself in renewed harmony with the world and the light.” Yes, it’s L’Heure Bleue for me.
L’heure bleue is my favourite part of the day.
I’m failing at the community project, but I’m wearing le Labo Iris 39 perfume oil from a sample someone sent me a long time ago, and it’s really splendid. I do not want to love le Labo, because I do not love their prices, and their candles look stupid, but they are really good at some things–like making an iris scent. Phew. I just looked it up, and the perfume oil is $147 for 30 mL. No thank you. (But if it were half that price–maybe? probably?)
I don’t like Le Labo either…the SAs completely ignore me and the prices are too high. Have you ever tried real orris butter? That might satisfy your Iris itch.
No, I haven’t! Do you have a source recommendation?
I used to get mine from Eden Botanicals.
The orris butter from Eden Botanicals is perfection! I bought 1 dram of 8% and 15% irones as per your suggestion and I have not dared to dilute them at all. I apply a tiny mini on my wrists once in a while and I get absolutely delighted. Nothing can beat orris butter.
I agree. Orris butter is out of this world and all you need is a dot from the stick of the sample.
Oof, isn’t that the company you just mentioned that is jacking up its prices? Well, as long as it’s cheaper than le Labo, it’ll still be a win! I suppose I should try it 🙂 thanks!
LOL at “their candles look stupid “????
🙂
Yeah,I loved the Iris 39 candle, but it’s not pleasing to the eye in that smashed tin
I bet the candle smells heavenly! I did just see that they have some candles available in glass containers; if I ever wanted to spend a ton of money on candles, I’d consider those!
Thank you so much for the best wishes and words of strenght yesterday regarding my Dad. You all are truly wonderful !!
He did well at the cardiologist yesterday. His heart rate was a little bit weak, but the doctor is not very concerned about it. And he needs to be weighed everyday, to make sure he doesn’t have fluid building up. I am going to call him in a little while so I can record his weight.
My SOTD: Jo Malone Green Wheat & Meadowsweet
Oh, hurray! Glad things went well for Dad at the doctor’s office.
Great news!
Good news! More healing vibes coming his way.
Thanks for the update, Barqs! Hope that things continue to improve for your dad.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles
They bottle is round like the moon ???? so one point for trying?
Robin, you smell fabulous. If that scent came in a tiny bottle I would buy one it a hot minute.a
Happy FriYAY! You fragrant folks all smell divine.
“The” bottle . . . sheesh, I can not type on a kindle. ????
You can get it in a 15-mL bottle! Tauer has three 15-mL bottle discovery sets, or travel sets, or explorer sets, or whatever he calls them. If you’re only interested in one of three, then it seems like the perfect set to split during a splitmeet!
Ooooh, superb enabling, I did not know Tauer does 15 ml bottles of that one. ????
I don’t think he did have them last I checked. I need this one and Phi.
I realized after spraying that my scent is better suited to next week’s theme – Hiram Green Shangri La. Not sure why but I was craving this today. So I’m neither “using it up” or on theme, although I did spray more than usual!
Spraying more than usual is using it up ????????
I haven’t sprayed anything yet this morning, I’m still enjoying the remains of last night’s Rouge Avignon. I used up the last of my sample, so have joined the Use It Up brigade in a very small way. I like it, it’s quite a sweet rose, but there are so many things I like that it hasn’t quite made it to my FB list.
Maybe “rouge” could be a connection to a blood moon??
Works for me! ????
Thunder Moon indeed! I have heard a few rumbles this afternoon. Some stormy weather is being predicted for later on. ⚡???? Glad I went out last night to gaze at the full moon and Mars.
SOTD = Ralph Lauren Pure Turquoise, from the bottle I bought when it first came out. It has night blooming Cereus in it, so that’s my tenuous connection to the CP. ????
Probably my favorite Lauren. You smell great!
Thank you!
We have thunderstorms here right now. Pouring! I was lucky also to watch the moon for a while last night, since we will miss it tonight.
Pure Turquoise is so appropriate for the CP. You smell fantastic!
No rain where I am yet. This afternoon was dry thunderstorms, which is really weird for this area.
I hope you end up escaping the storm – it was not fun!
Ended up having light to medium showers here for a couple of hours. No thunder or lightning, though, and it doesn’t sound at all like the downpour you went through.
That is one of my favorite of the Ralph Lauren’s! You smell yummy. 🙂
Thank you! I had forgotten that this perfume has amazing longevity on me. Good thing I like it, since it’s not going anywhere!
You guys! The Blood Buck Moon is BEAUTIFUL!!It’s 22:38 here, full eclips happened at 21:30.The moon is ochre red.Glowing in the sky.I saw some shooting stars and the milky way.
SOTE Body Shop Red Musk.Appropriate!X
Wow… you paint a beautiful picture ????????????????????????
Fantastic! Do you think we were both looking at the moon at the same moment…so romantic!!! Ba ha.
I wish I had beed there. Your description is so amazing! ????????????????
How cool! Lucky you to see this eclipse! ????
Very nice!
SOTD is Istanbul by Gallivant. I love this line and love this olfactory invocation of a wonderful city
PSA: Laurie E has some perfume left! Check it out, if you’re still hoping to get some of her perfume!
And she says, “I think I have found someone excellent to carry on with SSS,” which is super-duper exciting! And means that you might not need to desperately try to buy up her remaining stock anyway 🙂
There went that no-buy resolution! 🙂
Fingers crossed that she has found someone to carry on in her fine tradition.
Sounds like I get an enabler pin???
Besides, this is supporting small businesses. It’s like a charitable donation, really.
????
You’ve definitely earned that enabler’s pin! And thank you!
Super crazy day here. I went for my hair appointment, and my stylist did an amazing job as usual. I wore some Bronze Goddess to my appointment.
We’ve had about 8 interface fires in the area recently in the last 2 weeks, so the provincial Forest Service has gotten them under control quickly. On the way home today from my appointment there were flames coming from the mountainside about 3 blocks from our house. Luckily everyone around there is on high alert and the fire department was contacted right away. They have been hitting this fire all afternoon since it’s thisclose to houses. Planes and helicopters gave been going back and forth, they are still dropping water and fire retardant on it for 3 hours. Seems as though his fire may have been started by an arsonist as we aren’t that close to the other fires burning currently. Sorry for the rant!!
No need to apologize in my book! Having fires that close to you is scary stuff!
There is a special hell for arsonists! That close is SUPER scary! Hope they manage to contain and extinguish the fire quickly!
I’ve been reading about these awful fires. They are certainly rant-worthy. Hoping firefighters are able to contain them.
Most of the fires close by in the provincial parks area were lightning-started about 10 days from a crazy lightning storm, but it seems as though the one in my neighborhood was started by an arsonist. Absolutely mind-boggling, as they think they won’t be arrested. Last year when there were natural wildfires burning further north most of the summer, but yet there was an a**h**e starting trees and shrubs on fire in my city who was finally arrested.
From what I personally saw this afternoon, I have no doubt they will get this fire taken care of sooner than later.
Thanks everyone!!
SOTE – Sun, Moon & Stars by Karl Lagerfeld for a date night with the hubby. 🙂
Enjoy your date night!
Thank you! We did Middle Eastern and it was delicious!
Beautiful perfume and bottle! I wish KL would come out with some new beauties, like he used to have. Vintage KL is probably in my top 5 favorite perfumes ever.
Me too, Sun Moon & Stars was a favorite of mine in the 90’s ~ I love my little blue bottle.
Oh, I remember the vintage KL, it was a friend’s signature scent and it was so heavenly! I regret not scooping up a bottle at an antique store when I saw it a few months ago. I think it was going for $15. *kicks self*
SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDP
Yesterday, I wore the EDT. They are quite different and i love them both. The EDP is louder and heavier and I was only able to wear 5 sprays (vs. mmm 8 or maybe a little more of the EDT). The EDP is fruitier and leathery.
Now just bear with me as I explain why I am on theme with the Buck Moon. I understand that the Buck Moon is around the time when the bucks grow their antlers, and said antlers are used to attract doe and/or fight off other bucks. Although I have not seen this for myself, I would imagine that amorous deer get googly-eyed and their eyeballs swirl around (maybe this is just a cartoonish representation). “Volute” is a spiral scroll and googly-eyed swirls look like a volute. Partial credit, at least?
NJ is the throes of continued hot/humid yuckiness for weeks on end although technically not a heat wave because temps have not reached 90+. Today, we had torrential downpours. As luck would have it, I was caught in one as I was exiting the train station on my way home. Instead of a 10 minute drive, I did not reach home until 40 minutes later! I had to suffer through a woman who was straddling 2 lanes (I thought she was indecisive as the go straight lane beyond had heavy traffic but the road if she makes a right turn sometimes gets flooded. When she finally veered towards the left to be in her own lane, I passed her and saw that she was TEXTING! I should have beeped my horn but I decided to take the high road and remain calm. I was rewarded with a rainbow in a spot where there’s usually a rainbow when the conditions are right.
Now off to eat dinner and read what everyone picked!
Sounds like the rain got to your area earlier than mine. Yuck. Oh, and a pox on texting drivers.
Sad to say, it would probably take either an accident or a ticket with fine and points to make a text addict stop. It rained so hard that my windshield wipers at the highest setting was barely able to clear the windshield. I’m glad I went to Wegmans yesterday to pick up mom’s medication because the road to get there was closed due to flooding.
And with some folks, probably not even a ticket or an accident would stop them. Scary.
These stories always make me laugh! And yes, a wicked POX on texting drivers????????
????. Thank you, Deva!
