With apologies, it is Monday again. Local weather report: rain, then more rain. RIP Jonathan Gold. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: Etat Libre d’Orange You or Someone Like You.
Reminder: on 7/27 we'll celebrate the Buck Moon...pick your poison for the full moon tonight.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Homemade Woody Pudding body oil…a spritz of Pacifica Mexican Cocoa on each wrist… and four sprays of Greylocke on my shirt.
Mmm, Mexican Cocoa must have been delicious as a perfume. I was only able to try it as a candle (which was also fabulous) before it was discontinued.
It is delicious…the middle Marzipan has a full bottle which was languishing in the basement so I brought it up last night and am testing it out…the initial blast is strong but the dry down is absolutely amazing….I think she paid 15 dollars for it at our local health food store many years ago but I could see this selling now for 10 times the amount if it were marketed as niche….
I had the candle myself and it really was sooo good! I think the Pacifica candles are probably my favorites and it’s sad that they d/c those as well.
They’ve dc’d so many good scents from their line. I know they’ve changed the focus of their business, but ….. sad.
Sad for us because they were well done and highly affordable. I would rather have the old fragrances and candles versus the skincare that is being promoted now.
I have Pacifica candles stashed away that were discontinued years ago. They made some brilliant ones including Pacific Red Ginger, Wild English Clary Sage, Moroccan Chamomile Apple Blossom, Egyptian Bergamot Rose, Vietnamese Ylang Ylang & French Lavender, Nerola Orange Blossom, Tunisian Jasmine, and Indochine. The only ones I like now are French Lilac and Spanish Amber. But… I have discovered another line from Canada called Apothecary by Pure Home Couture. They are fantastic – the Everyday candles come in 36 scents. I have the English Ivy and the Black Tea and Cedar Wood. I have tried all the testers at a shop in my neighbourhood and they smell realistic and are excellent quality. No affiliation with the company – just very impressed by their products.
I loved that Mexican Cocoa candle.
Ooh how did you make your woody pudding body oil?? It sounds wonderful!
I have been marinating two sliced vanilla beans in 4 oz of NOW Sweet Almond Oil for several weeks. I added 1/2 oz of my homemade vanilla mixture to 1/2 oz of NOW Sandalwood Oil….that’s it….very easy and simple. I am on a vanilla bean kick and have also added vanilla beans to Skye vodka…not for drinking(as hajusuuri suggested) but for spraying on myself to freshen up….it smells really good.
That sounds wonderful and worth a try!
everything goes good with vanilla! My next body oil will be vanilla + rose
Ooh ooh I made a vanilla rose oil it smells fabulous!
I bet it does!!! I really like that combo.
I bet a rose/sandalwood oil would be delicious
holyneroli- YES!!! rose sandalwood is a great combo as well. I was also thinking rose patchouli.
CM8, Can’t you PLEASSEEE, just open up a B&B for us ‘fume heads’ and we will come to your house and sample all your goodies cooked and otherwise, and then play ‘race to swipe what’s on the dresser today’!!
Pretty please? I will be ‘amaretti marzipan’!!
LOL ???? I would need to win Lotto and quit the day job but what fun that would be to own a B&B for fumeheads!!
That layering sounds delicious! Keep going! ????♀️
I am working on my oils simultaneously LOL ????
Because THAT collection is large as well and NO ONE is really helping me out with that (occasionally the middle one but she uses tiny amounts of the e.os)
Today is a very exhausting day for me, so I did not do anything creative with the CP. Just D’Orsay Tilleul – lovely linden blossom.
Earlier I found some interesting information on the Buck Moon. Maybe it will inspire someone:
“JULY FULL MOON NAMES
July is the month of the Full Buck Moon. At this time, a buck’s antlers are in full growth mode. This Full Moon was also known as the Thunder Moon because thunderstorms are so frequent during this month.
Here are a few other Native American names for the July full Moon (translated literally into English):
“Ripe Corn Moon” –Cherokee
“Middle of Summer Moon” –Ponca
“Moon When Limbs of Trees Are Broken by Fruit” –Zuni.”
These are really beautiful, thanks for sharing!
Nice, thanks! I like the idea of a Thunder Moon.
Yes, lots of scents to match: Demeter Thunderstorm, Matin d’Orage, Bois d’Orage…
Oh, that’s great to know! I love to learn about language and how uniquely different cultures describe nature. Thanks for posting!
Before Robin started these ‘moon’ community projects, I did not know Native Americans have different names for full moon in different months. So interesting!
That was interesting – thanks!
LOVE it!! Thank you Glannys, we are heading out west this week and have had some crazy experiences with the ‘Thunder Moon’ and her storms over the years. I love it out there, there is something so spiritual and grounding about those mountains and buttes. I really respect and admire the Native culture and am a student of their art & culture.
Thank You Robin for the Buck Moon reference!!This should be our theme for the adventure!
Sounds like a very cool trip. I have never traveled beyond Europe (and, frankly, even the list of European countries I visited is very short), but the pictures of American mountains, hills and woods always wow me.
I love that so much. Thanks for sharing. Maybe I’ll get lucky and see “my” big buck Friday. We have a family (not sure what to call a herd of deer) of mule deer that walk through our back yard several times a week. It’s obviously a regular path they take. It’s usually 5-8 doe, but we’ve seen one juvenile male with little antlers and one BIG boy. We saw the big boy once by himself and twice with his harem haha.
I am jealous! There is a forest near me, but the largest wild animal I saw there is a squirrel.
I hope Mr Big Boy graces you with his presence this week.
Thanks for your answers, everyone. I think my favorite description is “Moon When Limbs of Trees Are Broken by Fruit”. Not that I am into fruity scents, it’s just such a vivid and poetic description.
Strange Invisible Perfume’s Black Rosette.
I forgot how much I love it.
Such a great scent!!
I was going through my perfume and deciding what to give away and found the purple box with still half bottle of the Black Rosette pure perfume.
It’s like finding half a million dollars that I forgot that I have…. ;D
Well, that’s exactly how you should feel — that’s a great find.
Shalimar Tea ☕️
Burning ylang ylang incense
Wearing Chanel bronzer to make me feel like the sun is out ☔️
And listening to Tracy Chapman
I want your morning! Instead, I’ll put something very office-friendly for 2 back-to-back meetings with someone who doesn’t appreciate strong scents. And will drink coffee – to wake up finally.
But you smell great!
Are you sure you want my morning? I am home with 2 toddlers. Who want Tracy Chapman on repeat (sometimes all day long)
LOL! …yesterday folks were complaining about teenagers but no one mentioned terrible twos and toddler temper tantrums …..
Vetiver Tonka to ward off the rainy Monday blues.
I have the blues too..the forecast is awful this week!
VT Twins! ????
R, are you wearing an L.A. scent in honour of Mr. Gold?
Yes! But more properly I’d be smelling like a food stall, right? Something like what my hair used to smell like when I waitressed in a chili parlor.
For anyone who wants it:
Jeff Goldblum Cooks With Jonathan Gold
Both very nice gentlemen. The Goldblum is my spirit animal —
in fact, having never seen this, I just also said “I feel like Magellan” under similar circumstances about two months ago — but every time I watch something with him, the other people look exhausted.
Yes!!! He always seems like he working harder at being chill than anybody on the planet. He is freaking everybody else out with his chill.
Mr. Gold will be missed in the city of angels.
I was just listening to him what seems like a few weeks ago.
Post shower some Oud Isphahan.
He went very quickly — pancreatic cancer is just nasty.
Please send us a little bit of that rain, Robin.
After a period of drought of at least four weeks, the forecast for the next week is……more drought….and a heatwave*.
*Dutch definition of a heatwave is a period of at least 5 consecutive days in which maximum temperature exceeds 25 celcius, AND on at least 3 of those days the max temp exceeds 30 degrees (86F)
SotD is Un jardin sur le Nil.
I had a very busy weekend…again, lots of social events. Bbq, birthday bash, lunch with family….
Though I had a lot of fun, i am looking forward to a quiet weekend without any appointments!
If if makes you feel any better, it’s going to reach 108F in my region, today, and that’s not the hottest it will get this week. The cool, watery nature of a JCE perfume is in order, as you’ve already noted!
Oh dear…108 F!
I dont think I have ever experienced temperatures that high. ???? And I dont think I want to….
Huh. 77-86F just sounds like summer ???? Enjoy!
Yess I am fine with it, I love summer!
But poor animals in the national parcs (young boars and deers) are having a hard time right now surviving. Our country is not build for heat. For instance, the climate control system in our office cant handle it. I have a small USB desk fan to keep it cool.
A long drought like this in this area of Europe is very uncommon.
Usually we have only 1 or 2 weeks of hot weather.
It’s 40C here today in Montreal and projected to be in the mid-30’s all week (with the humidex). I would love a Dutch heatwave of 25C! Also, it’s going to be humid, rainy and with occasional thunderstorms all week. Lovely!
Oh wow, thats hot.
40 degrees celcius is unheard of here. Record high in The Netherlands is 38,2 if I recall correctly.
But we are expecting temps of 33/34 celcius – thats into the 90s in Fahrenheit – by end of the week. Very unusual for this region.
I’m dying for some rain, and it’s so awfully hot. I think I’ll move to Spitsbergen for the remainder of summer
I am considering the purchase of a better (more quiet) fan for our bedroom.
Or has the era arrived where we all have to install A/C in our houses….?
I hate AC, it makes my eyes water and is just generally unpleasant. Plus it smells. But in this heat it almost seems desirable
Good luck with the fan, it sounds like a good idea.
According to the local meteorologists, we are entering into a lovely weather pattern with high temps in the 70Fs and low temps at night in the 50Fs. This is favorite weather for me but instead of enjoying it, I find myself concerned that such cool temperatures now mean unusually hot temperatures in late August and September; by that time of year, I’m usually longing for cooler days and nights. We shall see.
You may have it!
We are implementing a new payroll system today, so I went with Demeter Ginger Ale to help settle my stomach ( Says the Accounting and Payroll Manager)
Good luck !!!!!! hope it all goes smoothly
Oh, Hannahmom! As a former accounting manager myself, I shudder at the words “implementing a new payroll system.” Fingers crossed for you. Hoping all goes well.
Bon courage! Hope it goes reasonably well (I know it won’t be without snags).
Love your perfume choice – my mom used to give me ginger ale to settle my stomach when I was a kid. Hope it goes well!
I am in my beloved EM today. Thinking of you!
Best of luck with that new accounting and payroll system! ????
SOTD Mugler Cologne.
I highly recommend the Jonathan Gold documentary City of Gold, which, last I knew, was available on Netflix. He also appeared in Ugly Delicious. He was hardly older than my parents. RIP.
Thanks for the rec…I will look for it on Netflix.
I finally bought a Mugler Cologne mini and am so glad I did. Good stuff. You smell terrific.
Guys, I smelled a perfume in the wild today and was actually able to identify it! (this is rare for me) It was Miu Miu!
Thanks for mentioning this film. On my list.
Yes, great film — Kevin made me watch it ages ago and I thank him for it. Gold also makes a brief appearance in Ugly Delicious.
Leather Man with a spritz of Eau Aimable. I love to layer Leather Man with soliflores, but this is my first time layering it with citrus. I really like it. The green note in LM melds wonderfully with the bergamot and orange blossom in EA. Happy it’s “success” and not “scrub immediately!” ????
Okay, really I’m going to place a Dame order this week like I’ve been meaning to for months.
While others are Using It Up, I’m finding a bit of a hole in my summer options and instead am Buying It Up
If you’re at all interested in Leather Man, pls let me send you some! I have plenty to spare. Still have my email?
Just popping in to say that Laura, you’re so generous! I had a lot of fun with the little decants you sent me awhile ago. I just finished up AG Neroli last night and am really glad I was able to try it. Thank you!
You’re welcome! It was my pleasure. I love AG Neroli. Pretty sure it’s my fav neroli.
Easing the pain of Monday with Jasmine et Cigarette.
Also for those who were waiting — the new edition of Perfumes the Guide is now out in paperback, I ordered a copy from Amazon and got it last week.
Thanks Elisa! Maybe that will be tomorrow’s daily lemming.
You smell great, and The Guide is a fun read imho
You smell amazing. I watched some scenes from Dead Reckoning (with Humphrey Bogart and Lizabeth Scott) the other day and thought about this perfume. Since this is a film noir, everyone smokes a lot, and the femme fatale (Scott) wear a signature jasmine perfume which is frequently commented upon in the film.
Just a quick spritz of Oyedo before walking my kid preschool – it was 83 degrees when we left and 86 when I returned 20 min later & it wasn’t even 8am. Drinking coffee AND water now.
Anyone know if DS & Durga discontinued the HYLNDS series? They don’t seem to be on their website but are still available other places.
You smell great! Love Oyedo.
I’m still trying to figure out the thyme note (at first it just smelled like a strange bitter orange to me) but it’s growing on me.
This is the best kind of Monday- one that doesn’t require clocking in and out!
As usual, I’m in VT today, trying to use up this magical never empty bottle.
Wicked storm here last night! A rumble of thunder and then the skies opened, bucketing down rain and dime sized hail. Everything was covered in hail, and the trees took a fierce pummeling, but the end result was a huge waft of pine and evergreen from the shredded trees. I tried to get under some trees because I was afraid the van and camper top would get damaged, but we seem to have made it through no problem.
The other upside was a phenomenal sunset of neon golds, pinks, tangerine, with an occasional scrap of blue for contrast, gold tipped mountains and gilded trees backlit in a rising mist… The light was just out of this world, and luckily I was camped in a great spot to photograph it. So beautiful ????
Sounds like you had a nice evening! I love storms (when they don’t cause damage).
The storm was pretty impressive. Glad I wasn’t out hiking when it came through. The temps dropped 15-20 degrees in about 10 minutes. But yes, a beautiful sunset! Pretty sure the rain is very needed here! It’s the first time I have seen rain since I left Oregon back in April! ????
Oregon hasn’t seen much rain since then either. I love the occasional summer shower.
Love that pine smell. What’s VT? Glad you are safe!
Vetiver Tonka- I’m trying hard to “Use It Up” but it seems to keep regenerating every night…..!
Ah! Funny about regenerating… Are you coming up to the Seattle area in your travels? Let me know.
Post storm lighting can be particularly magical. Sounds gorgeous and glad you’re unscathed!
Wow! That sounds amazing. Would love to see some pics.
Ha! Shameless plug: photos on Instagram @vantasticviews…✌????I have a really nice (and expensive) camera at home with various lenses, but have just been using my iPhone. Next time I go home I will bring my camera (and binoculars!) along.
I may start an Instagram account as well sometime this summer…even though I am not a fan of Facebook Inc.
I’m not on Facebook either. I started the Instagram account just as a way to document my travels. I have almost zero followers, I’m not sponsored by anyone, and no one cares about it other than me! I like to look through the photos and reminisce, mostly. You should definitely start one! It’s a great way of preserving memories.
Meant to write *gorgeous, of course!
Your instagram photos of the post-storm beauty were magnificent!
Thanks, but the best came after I put on my jammies and was too lazy to go out to snap some photos. I watched it all play out through the window in my camper top. Great way to end a day!
That sounds magical!
It was pretty fantastic! That hail though…wow, it was coming down so hard!
Glad to hear that despite your wild weather the other night, you came through it unscathed!
Jalapeño, here was still patches of hail this morning at the lake! Crazy! But that storm made everything smell delightful!
Stay safe! Looks like Tahoe area is getting hammered again with heavy rain and possible hail. I remember years ago white-knuckle driving over one of the high, narrow, switchback passes in a summer hail storm. Am heading over to Instagram now….
A bit more rain but not as bad as yesterday. You get a medal for bravery for driving under those conditions! Some of these roads make me a tad bit anxious on a sunny day- can’t imagine driving in snow/hail/rain storms❄️????????⛈????
Hah! It was ignorance and stupidity really. And an inability to turn back….
Hi friends! Wearing A Quiet Morning, which it kind of is. Did not get enough naps this weekend.
Oh also! While I was Not Napping I went to Target and the Harry’s fig soap is indeed really nice! All the scents seemed nice but fig was the best. And the body wash bottle are huuuuge for the price.
Thanks for reminding me…I will look for that soap tomorrow in between youngest’s college class…I have four hours to kill and I can peruse through Target (although I need another bar of soap like…. )
Haha I know! I have been pretty strict with myself lately about not buying a new soap until I have almost used up the old one, because it was getting pretty ridiculous.
Ugh, yes, Monday. I’m at work wearing my sample of January by SmellBent which was a lovely daffodil stem/vanilla fragrance (to my nose, anyway) and about to go grab a London Fog (with half the usual vanilla) from my local Starbucks. Because, like Regina above, I could have used more naps–or any naps–this weekend.
Does a London Fog use Earl Grey, or am I thinking of something else?
Yes, Earl Grey. It’s essentially an Earl Grey latte with a little vanilla. I had my first one a few months ago and now I’m hooked.
That sounds so nice. I’m not usually a fan of tea with milk, except for chai, but I might have to try something like this sometime.
Just finished scrubbing the floor, next up is the bathroom, got company arriving tomorrow. Hiding in the flat under the AC, thank god, high will be 40C/104F today. Wearing Coquillete Cookiecrunch, a lemon vanilla gourmand.
Wow that is hot but you smell great
That perfume sounds lovely, the heat and house cleaning not so much! Are you in Canada? Those temps must be unusual for that area. I always worry about the elderly in hot weather, especially if they don’t have AC. Hope the heat wave passes quickly and you enjoy your company. ????????
I’m in Montreal, it’s above normal for here but not by a lot, we regularly get humidity and temps in the 30’s. It’s been like this for the past couple of weeks with no letup in sight, although I keep hoping. I hate being cooped up but I also hate the suffocating heat.
You’re wearing the one perfume equivalent of my layering of Acqua Viva and Vanitas last Friday!
Good morning Y’all….
Fighting the sleepies with a generous spray of Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere. Good stuff! Improves a Monday as much as is possible to do so…
You smell wonderful.
Fève Délicieuse for me today.
You smell great!
Nuit Andalouse, would love some of your rain Robin!
I love Nuit Andalouse, it was I hoped Guerlain Terracotta would be.
I like it well enough, but it’s not my favourite of the line. I’ve got one of those brilliant sample sets which basically is a set of decants. I haven’t tried their latest offerings, I think the last one I tried was Les Indes Galantes.
And of course I would love some of your not-rain!
We can share!
Hello, dear friends, I smell splendid today in some Papillon Anubis, courtesy of the very kind hajusuuri! It’s a great smoky oriental, and I’m sitting on my hands to avoid going after a FB.
I feel not at all rested after a weekend spent at work, but I’m terribly excited because the project we needed to get working BY TODAY is working!!! I mean, there’s lots left to do on it, but it looks really, really good So this weekend was all worth it. Hooray!
I think this deserves a celebratory bottle!
Don’t encourage her LOL ????????
Ahahaha yes as CM8 points out, you’re being quite devilish! (I’ll ignore the angel!) Terrible influence!
Anubis is so good, isn’t it. I fell in love with it this year too and am working my way through a decant before I think about a bottle.
Good strategy! It really is beautiful. If I see it on sale, I’ll probably cave….
Congrats! Must feel great.
OMG it does. I’ve been working on some part of this project since I joined the company over a year ago! Now to see how the results go over in the meeting with Very Important People–I think I’ll find out in the next couple hours.
Hooray for victories!
Hooray indeed thanks for your support!
You definitely need Anubis, it’s gorgeous. Congrats on the project!
I see you are in the devilish enablers’ club with hajusuuri! Maaaaybe. I mean, my birthday IS just eight days away.
Oh then do it! I have zero guilt if I can afford it *and* as in this case am supporting a small brand. (I don’t have any if I can afford it period, but the latter helps considerably too!)
Hey, congrats on getting to the finish line on your project! And Happy Early Birthday!
1) SOTD: Cap Neroli on top of lemongrass body oil.
2) The forecast is HOT, with NO RAIN. My beans and greens(endive, salad mix) are going gangbusters; the herbs (basil, parsley, hyssop, thyme, fennel, majoram) are doing great and the tomatoes are trying. The carrots are gone- Peter Rabbit may have gotten them.
Darn that Peter Rabbit!
I think the rabbits are getting revenge for your “lackluster” review of the peter rabbit movie, maybe ????????
Ha!~ It would be like those little bunnies!
Au Coeur du Desert for me today. Doesn’t seem fair to have to go back to work after a 12 hour shift yesterday, but there you go.
Ugh that does not seem fair at all. I once worked a (luckily temporary) job that involved working 10-12 hour days every day for about a 2-week stretch. All the overtime made for a hefty paycheck, but I had no life outside work because all I wanted to do was sleep.
May your shift fly by and may your perfume last the whole time!
10-12 hours with no OT feels even worse!
Oh no! Please, take care of yourself. Hope you can get some rest soon! You smell fantastic!
That’s tough. Do something nice for yourself!
Oh no! Please, take care of yourself. Hope you can get some rest soon! You smell fantastic!
You smell great, hope ACDD is giving you the strength to fight on!
Sounds like everyone is having unusual heat…it’s our normal mid to high 90s here on the edge of CA Central Valley.
It’s my husband’s birthday, and I’ll be away…which makes us sad. Some friends took him out to a beautiful, delicious dinner last night. Very thankful they did that. He’s taking himself to a movie today and having lunch at McDonald’s. Said he had a craving.
I’m wafting Infusion d’Oeillet today. I do love carnation. Busy few days ahead. Really need to push in clearing things out. I’m becoming friends with the folks at Goodwill…
I hope that you can celebrate together when you return home.
Happy Birthday to your husband ????
I get cravings for KFC at least once a month and given that it’s across the street from me that is not good.
OH, and very happy birthday to your hubby
Happy birthday to your husband! Hope you can celebrate later!
Happy birthday to your hubby and good on you for the decluttering! I will be tackling that myself come September.
Happy birthday to your husband, LizzieB!
Happy b day to your hubby- and you smell great!
I’m feeling a little under the weather today so I went with Lilylang because it’s very restful and comforting.
Awww, hope you feel better soon!
Sorry you don’t feel well! You sure smell great though.
I hope you feel better!
I hope tomorrow is a better day! Cheer up!
Oh no, feel better soon!
That’s a bummer! Hope you are feeling better ASAP.
Hope you rebound super quick!
OH wow! Thanks everyone! I finally gave in and took some mega vitamins and ibuprofen. I hate to take it but It made a big difference.
Sampling Without Words from Anna Zworykina (not sure if spelled correctly) which is a nice peppery rose but I really liked Hue which I sampled yesterday. Hue is a salty moss heavy scent with a teeny bit of florals
Humid and overcast today, but not scorching, so that’s good. I’m wearing copious amounts of Bel Respiro EDT and smelling fresh and green.
Perfect choice for today. You smell lovely!
It worked nicely and thank you!
Bel Respiro is a great choice for a day like that. You smell wonderful.
I don’t think of it as a happy scent so cloudy works well.
Mmm you smell great.
You smell gorgeous!
Thank you and sorry your scent ended up being headache-inducing ????
Oh good choice. I’ve been eyeing a bottle of Bel Respiro for a while now, but I don’t think I deserve one. Maybe next year!
Deserve it? Of course you do ????! I can’t speak to whether it’d be prudent now, though.
It’s lovely, but to be honest, there are others in this genre that have the same effect and are less expensive (Silences, for one). Don’t think I’ll ever need a bottle of this.
I’m in Trayee because I could still smell the incense perfume on me that I sampled last night, even after my morning shower. Not sure Trayee is really doing it for me today, but thst may be partly because of how much I love the perfume I sampled last night. It’s 20 Mars 2022 by Rundholz Parfums. Incense lovers must try this! It’s very potent and made me think of what SSS Incense Pure could have smelled like on me (sadly that line didn’t work on me). Also recommend for fans of Tauer’s incense perfumes, Terveer Incense, and Aedes Copal Azur. Thanks to cazaubon for the freebie sample in the swap package some months back.
You’re welcome! My favourite Rundholz is April.3.1968.
Ooh I’m very interested in sampling that one too. The other sample you sent me from the line, 14 Feb 1912, wasn’t a winner at all. Which is just fine, because I can’t afford to like everything.
How odd; are all of his scent names dates? What does he think is going to happen on that date to merit the corresponding scent? Why are some dates in French, while others are in English? All the date formats are different. Hmm, I’ve never smelled any of them, but I am a bit perturbed.
Even so, try the Mars one!
Eek typos abound. I meant to say of SSS Incense Pure that sadly that ONE didn’t work for me, not the whole line. I have a lot of loves in the SSS line.
TRF – Oh I am ON IT! Thank You – It sounds perfect. I am an official addict.
SOTD = PdE Le Cri de la Lumiere (spellcheck keeps wanting to change this to Cruise de la Lumber which makes no sense at all)
I have a split portion and I am happy with the fragrance and have enough of it (until I don’t). Today, I am getting crunchy apple salad which I think comes from the rose. Does anyone else get apple?
I bought all 3 Harry’s Shower Gels. I am in testing mode…I had a weird 1” x 0.5” hive on my forearm (just red, not raised or itchy where I washed yesterday) which appeared this morning and it’s now gone without me putting any type of ointment. It could have been from the heat of the omelet I had this morning as I was cradling the bag on my forearm. Anyway, it is a nice scent. I only used enough to lightly wash my left forearm so I will need to do more testing to make sure I don’t get rashly with more and more frequent exposure.
A lumber cruise sounds like it could be a “thing” ????
Some think ambrette smells like apple juice and I kind of get that, too.
I was just thinking that the Mrs. Meyers Geranium Hand Soap may have been a contributing factor in the apple smell.
CRUISE DE LA LUMBER!! That’s hilarious. I have a small decant of it, too, and I think it’s just okay. Nice, but not All That and a Bag o’ Chips.
Ha! I have a 10mL decant so that should last me quite a while.
Cruise de la Lumber wins for autocorrect oops this week!
But see below for an alternative from Glannys!
On auto correct: could be worse. Crisis de la Lumbar, for example.
Ha! You win!
I definitely find it crisp, which is Apple-like!
You know, now I’m thinking that my use of Mrs. Meyers Geranium hand soap may have contributed to that fruity Apple salad smell. I will need to switch hand soaps!
I get apple from it too.
Dreary rainy day, but it’s ok because it’s not snow???? sotd is Alien Essence Absolue. I found the use it up project, had me wearing perfume that didn’t feel right. So I’m going back to wearing what fits my mood.
I feel like a drop out, LOL ????
Not at all… wear only what moves you and soothes the spirit….it should be fun, not torture ????
It’s not torture, lol, I’m just moody! I put on 2 other perfumes this morning before finding the one that I thought would suit me for work tonight. Some days I get lucky and a perfume will call my name.
I’m also moody and I do that on a regular. I spritz different perfumes on different fingers until something “fits”. But, I’m sort of in the “use it up” club since I’m being more generous with my applications. I used to be a light dabber only.
lillyjo and Elisa- If you are using perfume on a daily basis then you are card carrying members of the “Use it Up” club in my book
I can’t join “use it up” either. In fact, despite good intentions, more than half the time I can’t join the community project either. I have to go with what sounds good in the moment.
Same for me. Gotta wear what I’m in the mood for.
Totally get where you are coming from, lillyjo! I think this week might be trying samples that I haven’t yet sniffed. But I might change my mind! ????????
Okay SOTD: I am in 4711 today because we need to SERIOUSLY channel some sunny weather here!!
Can someone help me decide and weigh in?
I am really considering a purchase of Iris Cendre which is on (a fabulous) sale at theline.com, THANK YOU UNDINA for the alert yesterday – but it would be a blind buy…..
Can you tell me how you feel it compares to Aedes Iris Nazarena? My idea here is to split the bottle and give 1/2 to a dear friend who loves IN, but I don’t know whether I should. I know it has had a good following here at NST over the last few years. I don’t have a lot of experience with Iris as a note yet, and I have no time to sample before the sale ends! Help? I am so conflicted.
To me, Iris Cendre was more similar to Iris Silver Mist than Iris Nazarena, but that was just going by memory as I never tested all three side by side. If you like Iris Nazarena and/or Iris Silver Mist I think Iris Cendre is a safe blind buy, especially for that price.
Thanks Cazaubon – that’s very helpful.
An enabler pin goes to Undina.
Iris Cendre does have a burnt smell missing from Iris Nazarene, and I agree the iris is closer to iris silver mist. IC is my favorite of the three. I can’t wear IN because something in it gives me a little headache, alas.
It’s too hot here for any but the lightest of scents, applied lightly. For me, that means JCE Hermes. So today is Muguet Porcelain. Before it’s too hot to cook I made cold peanut noodles for dinner tonight and some tzatziki for tomorrow. Plus, I had some leftover melted chocolate from frosting the HobNobs so I drizzled it over some potato chips. I think that will be lunch.
Those peanut noodles sound delish.
Yummy chocolate covered potato chips!
In in Noir de Noir today just because. Probably a little much for a Monday morning, but oh well!
Absolutely perfect for a Monday!
As much as I love Noir de Noir, I think of it as your perfume! You smell great!
It can be our perfume lol! It’s my guys fav. He just loves it so much. As many scents as I wear, it’s one of the few that he picks out and knows what it is immediately. I know he will be happy to sniff t when he gets home this evening.
Have you noticed any difference in how Noir de Noir behaves in your new-ish desert environs?
You know, I haven’t really noticed. Although I have honestly maybe only worn it a handful of time since I got here and none in the warm weather. Maybe I should wear it again tomorrow so I can pay attention. I have several work errands to run tomorrow, thus will be out in the heat!
I’ve noticed that some perfumes I have are VERY responsive to heat & humidity (or the lack of), and others, not so much. I haven’t found any pattern to why this happens.
I noticed a huge difference in how I perceived EB Apollo Hyacinth compared to a few wintertime wears. IMHO, it smells so much more beautiful in the heat. In the colder months it was just a nondescript light floral. I almost put it in the give away pile. So glad I gave it another wear.
We’ve hit peak (at least I hope it’s peak) heat and humidity, so I brought out Berdoues Assam of India and sprayed both arms. Then I sprayed some Fragonard Verveine on one arm. I’m liking the combo!
I bet that combo is fantastic!!!
Horribly busy today and who knows for how long!
Wearing Eris Belle de Jour. I loved the seaweed and orange blossom opening. Salty and beachy. The drydown is mostly cedarwood on me, very strong and headache inducing. Like a NSTers’ husband said the other day: “this perfume goes on and on and on and on…..” So grateful this sample is GONE!
Well thank God it was a sample and not a bottle ????
Most of those samples and perfumes have prevented me, thanks God, to get into blind purchases. This Use it Up project has been very productive and saved me money
That’s great news! Keep going ????????????
Samples and decants…
Yes, which just goes to support my contention that we don’t really want most of our fragrances to have nuclear lasting power as we get tired of them when they go on and on and on and etc.
I used to think I wanted that too, but now I’m happy if something is gone in six hours. I have a lot of perfume to use up!
Especially when you find out that you do not like the fragrance. Even on my skin that nothing lasts, Belle de Jour is still strong after 9 hours and I also sprayed on my blouse…
I like a perfume to at least need one more application.
There are perfumes
that with just one application I know if they will work for me or not. Others might take several applications. In this case I will not give Belle de Jour another chance to annoy me so badly again.
I do not like it when a perfume has an annoying drydown. And of course, said annoying drydowns lasts forever!
Usually the perfumes that I like the most are the ones that don’t last long. Take the wrong one and it stays with you forever!
Yeah, the everlasting wrong perfume is like hearing a car alarm that just will NOT turn off!
You could have not describe it better! ????
I have on Ellie Nuit by Ellie D. I wear it a little more in spring, but it’s good in warm summer temperatures, too.
Unsettled weather in my part of the world today. I had 2 errands to do today, and there was fresh rain on the truck each time after both. Fortunately, the showers have been light, and short-lived. ????☔
One of the errands was taking Teflon kitty to the vet. I had noticed her scratching her ears more than normal lately. Turns out she has a bit of an ear infection. Poor kitty. ???? We now have some ear drops to deal with that bit of unpleasantness.
SOTD = back in Tempo today. Just the right thing to go with the humid, somewhat soggy weather. Also, since it wears quietly on me, it worked well at the vet clinic.
I did try Hiram Green Voyage over the weekend, thanks to a generous NSTer. A very nice, green amber that I should go back into when cooler fall weather shows up.
A green amber? That sounds interesting…!
I very definitely got “green” on the open for Voyage. After that it was unmistakably an amber for me. You may smell something different.
Poor kitty, but glad you know what’s wrong and have a treatment for it! Makes things easier. My cat goes through periods of scratching his ears til they bleed and it’s a presumed allergy to Something, but not clear what.
The vet tech cleaned out Tef’s ears today, and it was rather gross… a bunch of gunk that looked like road tar came out! Hopefully the drops do the trick.
Hope Teflon kitty gets better soon!
I do, too!
Poor kitty. I hope ear drops deal with the infection.
The vet thought that the inflammation was caused by a buildup of ear wax and other stuff. The drops are meant to clear all that out. I should know in a couple of weeks if this works.
I love the name Teflon Kitty!
Teflon did not come to us with that name. The shelter had given her a flower name that did not suit her personality at all. Mr. Jalapeno and I must have discussed and rejected 2 dozen names for her. We had to have a name for her in short order, since the paperwork we signed said she needed to see a vet within 1 week of adoption. Finally, and with some mild exasperation, I suggested that we call her Teflon, since none of the other names we had came up with stuck.
Cute story and I think it’s a great name ????
Late today wearing Mito EDP, which I love in the heat.
AG Mandragore Pourpre
SotD = 4711 all day
Spent today on the beach! All I had in my bag was a spray decent of 4711. It was perfect for cooling off, complements salty skin.I
Enjoyed reading all the scents today. I’m lemming Mugler Cologne and Demeter Gingerale. You people smell delicious. ????
