Welcome to the Cocktail Party! Our community project for today: tell us about your favorite cocktail (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), provide a recipe if you like, and wear a perfume that would complement your choice. It doesn't have to be a boozy fragrance!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I wish I had some terribly creative cocktail to share with you, but the truth is, the recipe I listed yesterday for the Charbay vodka tonic is pretty much what I do with any liquor. At home, my usual summer drink is the Italian aperitif wine Cocchi Americano, on grapefruit ice cubes with tonic syrup, mineral water and a twist, sometimes with a dash of bitters, sometimes not. In the winter, I often use Cocchi Storico Vermouth di Torino in place of the Americano. My fragrance match: good old Eau de Guerlain.
Reminder: on 7/27 we'll celebrate the Buck Moon...pick your poison for the full moon tonight.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I like mimosas, which is champagne with orange juice, but today I’m going for my favourite non-alcoholic summer drink, perrier with strawberry syrup. Cape Heartache.
MMMM…both drinks sound delicious !
And now I’ve got The Smiths’ lyrics “has the Perrier gone straight to my head” playing in MY head. I’m a big fan of sparkling water too, that sounds delicious!
Perfect drink and scent pairing!
Perrier and strawberry syrup sounds yummy!
Where might I find strawberry syrup, I wonder? That concoction sounds delicious.
Quite easy to make, actually! You just cut up a bunch of strawberries and cover them with an equal mass of sugar, then leave it on the counter, covered, overnight. The next morning, you just strain out the solids, and voila! Delicious strawberry syrup.
The strawberry solids will still be sweet and flavorful, and taste great on ice cream. You can add some apple cider vinegar to them to cut the sweetness.
Reduced balsamic vinegar would be delicious with the strawberries also; I like it served over vanilla ice cream for an easy & quick dessert.
You can probably find bottles of Torino syrup at Beverages& More in the US.
Wow, that sounds great…!
Escada Collection
Gorgeous….and no one ever mentions it….was just re-arranging my empty Escada bottles in the basement and was admiring my two limited edition Collection bottles….I don’t know why they discontinued Collection but I am glad that you still have some to enjoy 🙂
One of my favorites from Escada. 🙂
You are most definitely my scent twin 😉
Good Morning Y’all!
Wearing Demeter Sex on the Beach….a fruit cocktail scent that my daughter gave me for my birthday. The hubs and I had a chuckle that she chose that particular one, but it’s fun and easy to wear.
Here’s a recipe….if you don’t add alcohol, then it’s “Safe Sex on the Beach”! LOL I’m not a teetotaler per se, but I stick to the occasional mimosa at brunch or margarita with Mexican food! Never been one for strong stiff stuff! 🙂
Ingredients
2 oz vodka or rum
3.5 oz orange juice freshly squeezed
3.5 oz cranberry juice
2 splashes peach Schnapps
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 c ice + more as needed
Instructions
Fill 2 high ball glasses with ice cubes 3/4 of the way up.
Divide the vodka or rum between the two glasses, top with the cranberry, orange juice and a splash of the peach snaps on top. Add 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract as a float to each glass and enjoy !
That sounds refreshing!
Sounds not only delicious, but pretty too????????
Phlur Greylocke
and for my cocktail-
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/15/applejack-recipe_n_1959563.html
the Jack Rose which has both applejack and homemade grenadine 🙂
and to give credit where credit is due I just realize that Regina mentioned this one yesterday as a drink her mother enjoyed!
Jack Rose is one of my favorite cocktails. It pairs greatly with your Greylocke!
I am a Snowball fan ( Advocaat liqueur, simple syrup, lots of lime and sparkling water/club soda), but went with Mark Jacobs Cocktail- Ginger for my SOTD.
Honestly, not loving the scent. It is trying so hard to be sparkly and refreshing, that it has become harsh.
I have never had Advocaat, that sounds delicious.
I’ve never been able to find Advocaat in my area! Nigella Lawson has a cocktail called Snowball that I’d love to try at Christmas that calls for it….
I cannot find it here either. Luckily, I w=have alcohol as well as perfume mules
😉
I was thinking of Mark Jacobs Cocktail Ginger for today too, although I used up my decant awhile ago. I think it’s sometimes fun, but not one I’d want to wear all the time.
Advocaat! Oh wow a blast from the past. I remember that my great aunt always had a bottle ready to serve with ice cream, yoghurt or ‘vla’ 🙂
You can just buy it in the supermarket here in The Netherlands.
I am wearing a tiny dab of Patou Cocktail Dry. The top notes have deteriorated, but it still smells of herbs and honey.
I adore Cocktail, Patou is such a wonderful house. You smell great!
Curiosity made me look up the notes, that sounds like a wonderful scent.
Hi all,
My SOTD is J.Crew No. 57 by Arquiste, it’s a wonderful mix of resins, woods and sweetness with a fabulous boozy note.
My favorite cocktail is whiskey (Pappy Van Winkle) or Bourbon (my favorite is Basil Hayden) neat. I do make a killer Gin & Tonic or Gin Fizz though.
No. 57 does pair nicely with whiskey.
Scent siblings! I am wearing 31!
Sweet! My MIL loves that one, fortunately I am able to sneak a spritz occasionally. You smell wonderful!
Basil Hayden is very tasty.
Pretty tasty stuff and affordable compared to Pappy Van Winkle. I used to walk into BevMo 10 or so years ago and purchase a bottle for $60 dollars. Now the price is insane!
No. 57 is great, although I always want to reapply to get the boozy topnotes again. I wish I’d bought a bunch of it when it was going cheap.
I’m not much of a cocktail drinker. Never have been, probably never will be. Gimme a Spotted Cow in a frosty pint glass, and I am good. One, maybe two if I’m feeling crazy. My younger/college girl self would probably be disappointed if she could see me now, lol. Ah well.
I don’t really have a good perfume with beer notes, so I am pairing Atelier Cedrat Enivrant with one of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks of choice: Klarbrunn Cherry Lime sparkling water. So delicious. Another sample used up!
I am gathering that a Spotted Cow is beer? I like beer too but Mr. CM8 complains that I always buy the “exotic ones”….last one had orange blossom in it and I think it was a Sam Adams Limited Edition.
back in high school one of my good friends mixed her beer with raspberry syrup…wonder if that would count as a cocktail?
A light beer with grenadine makes a pretty tasty drink called a Monaco.
OOO…I am taking notes…thanks, Regina! Grenadine I could find in the supermarket , right?
The supermarket grenadine is just red corn syrup usually. It is super easy to make (just pomegranate juice, sugar, and some lemon)
https://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-make-homemade-grenadine-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-187983
Monkeytoe- thank you!!! I try to avoid high fructose corn syrup and this recipe looks easy enough to make!
Beer and raspberry syrup? I’ve never heard of that!
I got suckered into a 6-pack of that Sam Adams orange blossom beer too! I thought it was fine, but not as orange blossomy as I hoped.
Ha! same here…not enough OB whereas Mr. CM8 said way too much 😉
Yes, it’s a craft beer from a local brewery.
Sometimes I “think” that I will like those flavored beers too. Once I bought some New Belgium chocolate chip cookie dough beer because I thought it sounded so delicious! I made it about half way through one beer because I realized as I was drinking it that although I enjoy beer AND chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, I prefer them separately, lol.
my hubs says the same thing…”why would you combine the two?”…..best gourmand beer I ever had was one that tasted exactly like banana nut bread…ooohhh it was soooo good! liquid dessert 🙂
Yeah, afterward my husband said to me “I knew you wouldn’t like that.” Lol. He knows me so well.(sometimes better than I know myself apparently)????
Too funny 😉 Well, at least you were willing to try it!
Wisconsin native here (now living in CT), and you better believe I “smuggled” (legally…I am from Wisconsin, after all) some New Glarus back in my suitcase this past holiday season when I came to visit. 🙂
Sadly wearing my last drops of L’Artisan Ananas Fizz to match it with the best Pina Colada I have ever had in a tiny local restaurant in Nassau, Bahamas. I love Pina Coladas, but that one was perfection!
I will miss Ananas Fizz badly. I hoarded my sample for a long time, but it was time to enjoy what it was left in full instead of having one dab once in a while.
Happy Friday everyone!
Good for you. Life is too short to hoard and not enjoy that which we really enjoy! No sense in saving it for a rainy day.
????
You smell great!
Thank you Robin!
I do love a good pina colada.
????
I foolishly sold off my bottle of Ananas Fizz, silly me.
We are always getting rid of perfumes that we later miss. It happens more often than we think! ????
They have a rum factory on Nassau. They served the best pina Colada that I ever had as part of the tour, and I don’t really like to drink. Wish I could remember the brand of rum but it isn’t sold in the US anyway. It was fabulous.
Even the rum cakes they make are the best ever. We brought a lot and they only lasted few days. We could just not stop eating!
I bought some of those rum cakes as well. They were really good!
Rum cakes!! I have a co-worker friend (from New Zealand originally) who makes rum cake for a few of us during the year. I swear I was a bit tipsy at work.
She’s a great cook/baker and someone you want at a party!
Hi everyone! I made it through surgery yesterday! Pain isn’t too bad and no nausea so I’ve graduated to solid foods and got a nice omelet for breakfast. No cocktails or perfume while I’m still here in the hospital. Thanks to everyone who expressed well wishes for me yesterday!
So glad to hear this news! Here’s to your quick recovery!
So glad you checked in Calypso, and so glad you are recovering nicely!
Recover quickly- no nausea and solid foods are good things.
So glad to hear things are going well so far. Continued healing to you!
Glad that all went well!
Yay!
Hooray!
Glad you’re recovering well and hope you are back to both cocktails and perfume soon!
Glad it all went well. Thanks for the update ????
congratulations on your good news! I’m so very very happy for you that things are going well. Take good care.
Yay to no nausea!! Best wishes for speedy release and recovery.
Great! Keep getting better!
Glad to hear surgery went fine. Sending healing vibes for a speedy recovery!
Yay!!
Good to hear! Cheers to a speedy recovery.
Glad it went well!Perfumed Hugs!!!❤️❤️
I am so glad to read your good news ! And, I know you’re glad its over! Best wishes for a quick recovery.
Happy everything is going well for you! When you get home, you can have a nice cocktail in the comfort of your own surroundings! Cheers✌????
Great news! Hope you have an easy recovery.
I’m so glad it went well, and you’re having only minimal pain! Here’s to getting home to your familiar environs and the kitties very soon!
Excellent news 🙂
Nice one! What a relief.
I’m glad to hear that.
That’s great! Hope things continue to go well!????
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
So glad that you’re doing well!
Yay! You’ll be up and about in no time. Glad it went well!
A little late, but very happy to hear this positive update!
Very good news! Glad you are feeling well!
I’m wearing Queen Latifah’s Queen. It’s not a cocktail, it’s the whole darn party!
I’d like to try the recipe in the current issue of Cooking Light mag: peaches, bourbon, and lemongrass paste (in a tube, I think?). Does anyone know where to get said lemongrass paste?
Happy Friday, all.
Would you believe my local supermarket used to sell it? If you can’t find it at yours I would suggest an Asian market.
Yes, Asian supermarkets are a good bet- H-Mart is the biggest in the NoVA area!
Ha! and here I thought H-Mart was unique to the NYC area…I went in there for the first time last Saturday and was amazed at all the great stuff.
I drive past an H-Mart often and never thought to go in! Must do that today. 😀
And I thought they were just in the PacNW! I looovve HMart.
There’s an H-Mart in Vancouver, BC!
I think there is an H-Mart in southern New Jersey, just outside of Philadelphia.
Thanks, y’all; H-Mart, here I come!
Also, try Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
Lemongrass paste can often be found in a toothpaste-like tube in the fresh herbs section of your supermarket – usually on the top row, for some reason, where they keep the little plastic clamshells of rosemary, mint, etc
Yes! I just went food shopping and checked…my supermarket still sells the lemongrass paste in the herbs section in a tube just as you described.
I’m planning a shopping run right after work…
Any way to share the recipe? Those ingredients sound wonderful.
Here it is:
https://www.cookinglight.com/recipes/thai-peach-punch
I love Queen! You smell fantastic!
A big ‘ol Yaaaassss!!! to Queen —
Unlike JadainGA, I DO enjoy a strong cocktail fairly frequently, and I’m a “brown liquor” girl – whisky, bourbon, sometimes dark rum. Can’t bear gin after an unfortunate incident on Christmas Eve many moons ago. But today it’s warm and a bit muggy here, and I really needed to wear Mediterraneo. I think it would pair nicely with a lemondrop cocktail.
One of my favorite cocktails is called a Kiltless. (I wish I knew the back story on that name.) It’s one part blended scotch (we use Ballantine’s), one part Licor 43 (it’s orange-y, but silky), and one part Gran Classico Bitter (which is NOT bitters, it’s a kind of aperitif). Shake with lots of ice, pour into a martini glass and garnish with lemon peel. Heaven in a glass.
PS – Robin, my husband is also a fan of Cocchi Americano.
🙂 hahaha. Yes, I’d like to hear that back story too! Sounds like a good drink.
Good to know there is another fan out there! It mixes nicely with the Gran Classico too…I went through a bottle of that a couple years ago.
Ooh, interesting! I’ll mention that to Mr. G – we always have both on hand.
That cocktail sounds amazing. I’m also more of a “brown liquor” girl. Even the tequilas I like are the darker, aged ones.
It IS totally amazing – I’m enjoying one right now. 🙂
I rarely drink cocktails but for this project I mixed ‘Lemon kiss’. Typically it is a mix of Prosecco and Limoncello, but I used this recipe:
4 ounces sparkling wine (chilled)
1 ounce limoncello (chilled)
Crushed ice
5-6 fresh blackberries, raspberries or currants (I used one large blackberry)
As for the scent, I picked Acqua Viva by Profumum Roma – lemony, fizzy and Italian.
That sounds delicious, and possibly a way to do something with the VERY tart blackberries we grow.
Berries are essentially a garnish here (though I enjoyed eating mine after finishing my cocktail).
See the details here (scroll to Bacio del Limone) – https://cocktails.lovetoknow.com/Limoncello_Drink_Recipes
Your Cocchi Americano drink sounds really nice. I used to drink martini vermouth with Schweppes Indian Tonic Water loving its refreshing bitterness.
Try a bottle of Cocchi if you see it then…it’s not all that different from vermouth. There is a rose one too but I do not love it.
Enjoy your blackberries! I’m jealous.. One of my favorite.
That sounds supper yummy!
Yummy
We’re half-twins…I layered Acqua Viva with Vanitas!
Your approach is more creative. 🙂
Daisy, beloved NST commenter (when she’s not too busy teaching, which she 100% is), just sent me a link to a San Francisco bar that’s just launched a Studio Ghibli-inspired cocktail menu! I’m terribly intrigued by the Spirited Away, with shiso vermouth. I’d pair it with Mandy Aftel Shiso, or maybe Nomenclature shi_so? https://www.tastingtable.com/drinks/national/spirited-away-cocktails-pabu-san-francisco
I’d like a sip of everything on the menu, please 😉
A theater near me is showing several Studio Ghibli films this fall, and I can’t wait to see them on the big screen!
This is literally everything. I would be under the table so fast!
How fun! We’re planning a Studio Ghibli summer movie marathon with my family next week.
Slightly off topic, I sniffed the Harry’s soaps Robin mentioned as a lemming a few days ago. At Target yesterday I bought two of the Shiso bar soaps. They smell great.
OH! Did you happen to sniff the fig?
I did, it is gently fig-gy, lightly spiced, very nice. I liked all of the Harry’s soaps, so I let my son choose, and he went for the shiso. 😀
Excellent, thanks!
ack!!!! and now I will be in Target between youngest Marzipan’s summer college class desperately looking for those soaps!
My local Target store had all the Harry’s stuff on the end of an aisle near the men’s face/shaving supplies. Hope you had a chance to sniff! 😀
Very tempting, tiffanie! ????
The Harry’s body washes all smelled great too and at $7 they’re practically freeeeeeee!
I’ve never really drunk a lot, even in my youth. When I was a preteen and teen, the child protection laws were more lax and my mother would order sweet drinks for my sister and I. Sloe Gin Fizz, Pink Cadillac and White Russians, the last two of which were mostly ice cream, which is why I liked them. In college I never drank. In my 30s I would occasionally have a drink at a restaurant. These days my only cocktail is Diet Coke with lime. Add rum to that and it’s a Cuba Libre. Anyway, today I’m wearing Beaver from my Zoologist discovery set. I applied it quite lightly. Don’t know how I feel about it yet.
Your liver is happy!
Seriously, a Sloe Gin Fizz might be the first drink I every had in a bar. We used to like Blue Whales too, and I don’t even know what those were except a) blue and b) sweet.
Blue Whales?
Like this:
http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/blue-whale
Sounds super sweet!!
Wow, doesn’t that sound disgusting?? Looked just like that so it’s probably it.
Oh my lord that takes me back!!! Slow Gin Fizz and Alabama Slammer were the two drinks my girlfriend would have when we went out on Friday nights in the early 1980s. White Russians and Amaretto with OJ my best friend’s older sister would drink. And my mom would have whiskey sours. It ‘s funny how I associate cocktails with people 🙂
Oh my, had not heard of Alabama Slammer. Boy did we have sweet tastes!
I’m in L’eau Corail by Parfums de Nicolai. While in the boutique I tried all of the Eaus. This was the only one that was both pleasing and actually stuck to my skin (Mixte disappeared in minutes, which befuddled both me and the SA.). It’s cheerful and unlike anything else in my collection so it made the cut. I’m imagining a mango Bellini with it.
Ohhh, is that one available in the U.S.? Don’t think I’ve heard if it.
It’s not on the website- released in 2015, must not be as popular as the Ete, Chic and Mixte. None of those worked on my skin, though.
I’m wearing ELDO You or Someone Like You (again) today. I’d pair it with a mojito because of the mint note, which I adore.
Oh, mojito is nice!
Happy Friday!!
I’m in Tauer Les Années 25 for the ginger note, which features in many of my favorite cocktails. I’m really warming up to iris too, which I never used to like. Has anyone ever eaten or drank anything that uses iris flavoring? Is that a thing?
People eat iris bulbs.
Or is it tulips..?
Wow, I’ve never heard of people eating bulbs. I wonder how they prepare them? Off to Google I go…
The consensus? Tulip petals are technically edible, but the bulbs are not very tasty (and can contain toxins).
http://alloveralbany.com/archive/2008/05/09/tulips-really-are-edible-sort-of
Don’t they say Audrey Hepburn and others ate things made from tulip bulb flour during the war?
Also, yay for All Over Albany, which I was just reading.
https://www.missionliquor.com/product/iris-floral-liqueur-750ml/20514
And you’ll find more if you look!
Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks Robin!
My second-favorite cocktail is a sazerac, so I am wearing a New Orleans fave, Hove Louis Quatorze. It doesn’t smell like a sazerac, being more of a relaxed barbershop aroma, but would go well with drinking one.
My absolute favorite cocktail in the world is a guava and rum blendy thing called a Halekulani Sunset, which I’ve only had twice (at the Halekulani hotel in Honolulu) and which I couldn’t think of a perfume for. Anybody got a good guava rec?
Pacifica’s Hawaiian Ruby Guava…my house used to reek of it! It smells great though and was really nice in candle format.
Calyx is also really nice for a guava note.
I love New Orleans, Hove and a good sazerac, great pairing! We have a little place with an excellent bar that makes a good sazerac, too. It’s a favorite winter drink.
Arielle Shoshana or Galop d’Hermes? Isn’t one of those guava?
I thought AS was passionfruit?
I *think* Bruno Fazzolari Fontrevaude has a guava note, but I haven’t tried it.
A month ago I was in New Orleans and had numerous sazeracs. I’m currently testing 6 of Hove perfumes and loving at least 4 of them.
Is one of them Corduroy?
Nope, but the other one of the two you got 😉 I’ll do a post soon.
Don’t laugh but Adam Levine for Men has a guava note as well.
and it sells for a song!!!
I really like Adam Levine for Women (AnnieA was the enabler), but never thought to try the Men’s version…
I will include some in the package!
Today I am wearing a gift from my mother, Bath & Bodyworks Lovely Dreamer. We were shopping yesterday, and she was buying some of her favorite, Moonlight Path. It was a buy three/get three, so she told me to put my three items with her three. Lovely Dreamer reminds me a little of Prada Infusion d’Iris, not as layered and sophisticated, but still similar.
My favorite cocktail is champagne with a tiny bit of elderflower liquer added.
Oh interesting. I have a bottle of St Germain that I never did find anything to do with, and it’s languishing in the garage refrigerator. I wonder if it would go with other wines?
My sister made a delicious sorbet with St. Germain as an ingredient — bet it would go nicely with other wines, too.
Oh interesting, I should try that!
St Germain is very nice as an extra kick to homemade lemonade. ????????
Good idea, that would kill the sweetness a bit too!
Mmm..St. Germaine is my favorite. It’s good just mixed with sparking water, lime, and crushed ice. Or mixed with lemon juice and poured over pound cake fresh from the oven, so it soaks into the cake. A dear friend also makes a great margarita with St. Germaine replacing the Cointreau…..
Thanks KatieP! I need to do some more experimenting.
Not on theme today, as I don’t drink cocktails so couldn’t possibly come up with any kind of perfume link. Instead I just went with what I felt like and today’s SOTD is Vacances by Patou. A lovely spring bouquet with a great blend of flowers and a lilac note. I just wish it were spring again. So I could give my garden a better start for a dry summer.
Love your choice Robin, cologne wise, nothing beats Eau de Guerlain!
Are your plants suffering from drought?
Our current forecast is rain, forever, so we may end up with the opposite problem…our tomatoes may rot.
They are. It’s just not been a good year with an exceedingly wet autumn and winter, so a few things rotted away and then it suddenly got very cold en then it suddenly got very hot and very dry.
I would love some rain, it’s been more than a month, apart from a short burst of rain last Monday and that is extremely unusual in the Netherlands.
Sorry about your tomatoes, they would love it here!
When I read you comment about rain last week, I was hoping it would come our way…but no. 🙁
I love summer and warm weather but I could do with a cool down for a few days as well ( its very warm and muggy in our office building..urgh)
We can’t complain…we had ripe tomatoes a month earlier than usual and it is still possible we’ll have an extra long season this year.
Hope you will get some of our rain!
Hey Austenfan…i saw my first daffodil of “spring” in a garden down the road yesterday. I always think of you when I see the first daffodils
Thanks, you know how much I love them!
Favourite drink at the moment (not really a cocktail) is a white port wine and ginger ale. I’m wearing Loewe 001 Woman. See my review on Fragrantica for the connection (CybeleN over there).
That drink sounds pretty tasty.
It’s a regular in Portugal but now became like the summer drink all over Europe apparently.
Ahh I’m an idiot – it’s tonic water not ginger ale!!! But tasty indeed.
Wearing a little spritz of Bois de Paradis, usually a winter scent. I usually say it smells like mulled wine when it’s around Christmas, but am going with cognac today.
AnnieA, if you have a bottle of it, in the US and are willing to do a swap of a small decant, please contact me.
My favorite patio cocktail was created by a very good southern friend that she calls a yellowtail. Fill a tall glass with ice, add vodka to your taste and fill with club soda leaving a half inch at the top. Add a healthy squeeze of fresh orange or a splash of orange juice. The orange snakes to the bottom of the glass, making the “tail”. It’s light and very refreshing depending on how much vodka you use.
I’m wearing L’Artisan Seville l’Aube and Atelier Orange Sanguine today. Happy Friday!
You smell terrific!
That sounds great!
If I’m going to drink it’s going to be gin and tonic, but I don’t have anything that properly smells like that (not even Demeter Gin and Tonic, alas), so I decided to wear vintage Todd Oldham, which smells like kiwi liqueur and vanilla schnapps.
It sounds like they would mix well!
Ok this is a hard project 4 me but I went with Habinita- it is in a bar and would sit beside a sophisticated cocktail – right?
Goog gosh I smell AMAZING! Is is iIris & tomato leaf …..? Must look it ip again when home. Oh I adore this!
Cheers my friends!
You do smell amazing! Galbanum, powder, tobacco & leather is what I remember.
Wearing Lorenzo Villoresi Tropicana just because I tend to drink fruity tropical rum drinks (too bad my town doesn’t have a swim-up bar…)
In the ideal world, every corner in every neighborhood would have a swim up bar 😉
Agreed
Not much for cocktails. I like a Pimm’s Cup in the spring/summer, or else a plain gin and tonic. Does sangria count as a cocktail? I love a good sangria. Today I am wearing Monserrat (again). It’s gotten a lot of wear this summer. It might go well with a mojito, because of the mint, but an unfortunate evening of mojitos a while back has put me off them forever.
I love good sangria too! Our local Mexican restaurant makes a fantastic sangria. And their margaritas are pretty good too! ????
If anyone says that sangria doesn’t count, they can send it my way 🙂
I totally think that sangria counts! It has wine and brandy in it.
SotM = Vanille Galante
Robin you smell fabulous. Eau de Guerlain smells like a mojito to me. It’s one of my most favorite colognes.
VG makes me recall sniffing deeply from the bottle of vanilla extract when I was a child. My mum’s rule was that cookies, cake, or baked sweets of any kind were made at home, rarely store-bought. I did a lot of baking, usually solo, from the time I was about 8 years old on.
I grew up in a dry house. We had no alcohol other than vanilla extract. As an adult the only alcohol buzz I’ve had was after eating four big scoops of a delicious lemon granita that turned out to be lemoncello granita. Oops!
In my own home I have rum and Grand Marnier for cooking. So instead of a drink, I’ll pair Vanille Galante’s banana-ish ylang and rum with my favorite bananas foster recipe:
https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1017148-bananas-foster
Once I spritzed VG on before going out for dinner. In the car with five friends someone asked, “Smells great in here. Who’s been pre-drinking?” Ha!
I like to sniff friends’ drinks when they give me a chance. The smell of gin (pine trees), also applejack (an apple orchard with fruit fermenting on the ground), are wonderful.
VG is pure banana on my skin in the best possible way…
your last paragraph matches my SOTD….there is both pine and apple in Greylocke…..
AND inspired me to go and try to find a cocktail to match (which I did !)
That looks like a nice one, and now I want to make my own grenadine. 😀
I would happily give up the drink for the bananas foster!
I’ll take my fun calories as sugar over alcohol any time. 😀
Happy Friday, guys!
1) Am in J Crew No 31 (remember her?) on top of Karma body cream. This goes perfectly along with one of my bougie cocktail favorites, a White Negroni. Here is a link to that recipe (sub Luuxard bitter bianco for the Cocchi Americano if available).
2) But here is a cocktail that has no alcohol and has plenty of charm:
a) Make a simple syrup with mint and basil leaves. Combine one part white sugar to water, let heat gently, then add basil and mint leaves. Add water as necessary and let steep for about 5-10 minutes, as if for tea. Strain and cool.
b) Squeeze a couple limes and reserve the peel. Then grate some of the peel into the juice.
c) Now, add ice cubes to glasses, and then lime juice with peel and simple syrup, to about 1/3 of the way of the glass. Then add sparkling water. garnish with more mint and basil leaves.
Ta-da! A tropical feeling mojito without the alcohol.
Oh My- this sounds so delicious and easy! Can I add vodka. :/ ?
If you like! It’s just as good without! 🙂
Yeesh. Link to White Negroni recipe:
https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2011/09/white-negroni-cocktail-recipe.html
Sounds delish!
Both of those recipes sound great! I’ll have to experiment with the nonalcoholic one; I have basil gasping in the garden.
If you have an ice cream maker make basil ice cream instead of mint and serve with stone fruit.
Yum, that sounds delicious!
I am also not on theme today, though I did plan to be, with Apothia’s Velvet Rope (which I think I have a bottle of, somewhere). Instead, I’ve spent the morning on the phone with Mediacom, trying to argue that my data usage, which is quite consistent, is really not at 75% of my limit just a few days into this billing cycle. This is the kind of stuff that makes me crazy – the amount of time it takes, the increasing frustration, the lack of competence on the part of employees who have neither the training nor the authorization to deal with anything but the simplest of issues, and ultimately, the sense of futility. Sorry. You can tell I just got off the phone. 🙂
Okay, I walked away from this post for a minute to go find some scent-triggered mental and emotional adjustment, which is as good as meditation, in many ways.
I’m now wearing a hefty spray of NV Pichola, from a sample one of you lovely people sent me. Wow, this is quite pretty – an explosion of notes, all dancing around, and just what I need to adjust my mood!
Totally get your frustrations! Every day I work, I have to deal with tech that doesn’t work, people in charge that know nothing about it, and waiting, waiting, waiting for tech assist to return a call (currently working nights, so you can imagine how long I have to wait)! In the meantime, I am completely hobbled in taking care of patients, since EVERYTHING is computerized these days- medications, patient equipment, VS….oh god, I could just throw a tantrum sometimes! So frustrating!
Oops, maybe I need to walk away and go sniff some perfume to calm down, too! ????
The Mediacom rep basically told me to suck it, or figure out if somebody in my neighborhood is hijacking my bandwith. I can expect to be charged extra for exceeding my data limit, which fees are, of course, exorbitant.
So, I’ve managed to reset my router’s password and key code (in case there is somebody else using my network), but I’ve only managed to identify 3 of my connected devices, and now none of my Amazon Echo devices will connect to the internet. Two and a half hours in, and it’s only getting hotter in my upstairs office.
Might have to go spritz something else. Looks like it is going to be a very fragrant day.
My situation is frustrating, but only really affects me. Yours is terrible, because it affects how well you can care for others. You have my empathy. Go sniff something lovely!
We need to come up with a perfume sprinkler-system as a coping mechanism????
Ugh, Mediacom. You can tell them I said that THEY SUCK! We have Frontier and they are similarly awful. Hope your day got better. 😉
Also, YES to perfume = meditation. We need to print that on t-shirts.
Ok this is a hard project 4 me but I went with Habinita-EfP my nee sample! Ut’s heritage starts in a smoky bar and would aeem to cozy up to a sophisticated cocktail as the cigarette smoke swirls above – right?
Goog gosh I smell AMAZING! Is is iIris & tomato leaf …..? Must look it ip again when home. Oh I adore this!
Cheers my friends!
Dang it even in a parked car I am Allll thumbs! Sorry All. Forgive me.
I am not an iphone keyboard fan even in landscape mode!
Or maybe I have been aitring at the bar (hiccups) haha
sitting
Go home, you’re drunk!
I want what you’re having! ????
What Deva said 😉
????????
Chuckling loudly!!
Robin, you smell fantastic! EdG is one of my summer favs.
My choice today is YSL Champagne. If I were drinking this early in the day ????, I would pair it with a classic bellini. The peach note in Champagne is so fun. And the name is perfect bc the perfume is effervescent!
Nice pairing, you smell fabulous!
Thank you!
Great pairing!
And that Bellini cocktail sounds delicious. I should try it while the peach season is on.
It’s a lovely drink. I hope you get to try one soon!????
I don’t really drink elaborate cocktails. My favourite alc. mixes are
1/ Gin and Tonic. Gin + tonic water + slice of lime + ice
2/ Kir Royal. Creme de Cassis and Champagne
If I went to an old-world, toff cocktail party I reckon I’d wear Chanel no 19, Ivoire, Private Collection or some other sort green stiff ‘lady’ fragrance.
Alas, my ‘parties’ consist of barbeques and pubs :(. Agent Provocateur is the go-to fragrance on those occasions.
Wearing Champagne today.
I used to drink “regular” kir cocktails all the time and haven’t in years — I should make one!
Yesterday I thought I would wear one of my mimosa-note perfumes but this morning I had to have Chypre Mousse. Besides mimosas, I drink spritzers or Kir Royale, which is champagne and crème de cassis. Having no cassis perfumes, and knowing that cassis is made from black currants, I figure there’s some black currant leaf in Chypre Mousse somewhere, it’s so green. It lists “green notes” so there you go.
If you like Kir Royales, try Champagne/prosecco with a splash of Chambord.
I love prosecco and chambord. Ugh, now I want some!
Non drinker, but have on Paris Venise in honor of watching my sister enjoying a Bellini when we are in Venice.
Nice!!!!!
Back in Betiver Tonka again- generous sprays that pretty much permeated the whole van.
Busy couple of days as I get everything out of storage and load up the van, getting ready to hit the road. Unbelievably, I winnowed out TWO lawn and leaf size bags of “stuff” that just didn’t make the cut. The camper top that was installed makes for 6’3” standing room and I’m loving all the space. My perfumes are back on board and I was sorely tempted to dip into some Ummagumma today, but really want to use up the VT.
No cocktails for me unless you count kombucha, which apparently Whole Foods does since they asked for my ID…????
I get a major buzz from kombucha and have been carded for it, too!
Seriously?! Wow! I must be a heavy weight. No buzz for me, just tart bubbly bliss. When the cashier asked for my ID, it didn’t compute. I stared at her like an imbecile trying to figure out why she asked…
Funny! I tried a “wine” made with kombucha once and it was pretty tasty.
I love that tartness of it! Really great on a hot day ????
What? I just bought kombucha from my local supermarket (a new item there) and did not get carded….I must look old -LOL!
No one could look older than me which my *insert gray haired emoji here in your imagination since there is a distinct lack of gray haired people on my emoji keyboard*
I think it’s only certain blends. When I asked the cashier, she said the one in my cart with the black cap is considered “alcohol” while some other kombuchas are not. It may just a California thing, too ????
Interesting…I guess whatever I bought did not have enough alcohol to warrant the ID.
I’ll have to start watching for the black lids. Thanks for the heads up!
I would’ve given them a blank stare as well if I’d been carded for kombucha. Hmm, we have blue laws in Texas. Wonder if there’s an issue with buying kombucha before noon on Sundays? Or, maybe I just think and type too much. ????
Have safe travels!
Thanks lillyjo! ✌????
Happy trails Deva!
I usually go for Moscow Mules, Black Russians or straight up Bailey’s when I drink but I am wearing Frapin 1270. Don’t care if I smell like booze at work today. It’s been a tough 3 weeks at work and tomorrow I am going to an Irish festival.
Pretty sure an “Irish Festival” will have plenty of cocktails! Have fun!
Cocktail-Friday!!Yummyyummyyumyumyummmm…
SOTD!YSL Paris.I’ll never get tired of this fizzy floral beauty, which reminds me of a Rosewater+Black Cherry daiquiri I drink whenever I am in Cape Town.
SOTE!Bendelirious! As some might remember,it is THE OTHER perfume in my TOP 2 of EVER!Cherries and Champagne.I LOVE THIS PERFUME.
QUICK RECIPES!
Chocolate Martini(which tecnically is not a Martini, because of the vodka)
1.)Two parts Vanilla flavored vodka
2.)One part chocolate liquer like Eine Kleine Nachtmuzik.
If you want it slightly less alcoholic, replace choc liquer with a chocolate milk drink such as Nesquick.
Stir and ENJOY!
Melktertjies(afrikaans for little milk tarts)(and actually a shooter,lol)
Whatever quantity you are making, use a pitcher and mix 2 parts vanilla vodka with one tin of condensed milk.Pour into little shooter glasses.Sprinkle with cinnamon.Et voila!Melktertjies(which is also actually a favorite and traditional South African dessert, when you make the actual milk tart…lol!)
Off to see a play.It is a friend’s debut tonight.
Happy weekend!
X
OMG!!! I am coming to your house! Those cocktails ALL sound delicious (and a chocolate liquer called “a little night music”? adorable)
and just to fill you in on the USE IT UP project I actually “lost” four more bottle that I brought up for myself to use (three Dames which were taken by the youngest Marzipan) and Pink Sugar taken by my middle Marzipan)…..
Haha! That is cheating! You have minions to help JUST FINISH IT!Lol!But well done! The more the merrier!✌????????????❤️
A black cherry rosewater daiquiri sounds absolutely mind blowing! Wow!
It really is mindblowingly good!????
I’m in Southern California, and when my boyfriend orders a martini, he usually has to specify, “With gin.” Around here vodka has completely supplanted gin as the base of a martini.
Yes,whenever I order n Bond Martini,I also have to specify…when I ask for a Gibson nobody knows what the hell I’m talking about!!Lol
A Bond Martini…lol…throwing in a bit of Afrikaans with N Martini…lol
No alcohol for me, but I do love an unsweet iced tea with some crushed mint leaves. That icy goodness cuts right through the heat of the day. SOTD is Imaginary Authors Saint Julep.
We smell great!
I love a nice cocktail and am with SheriG in that I’m drawn more to the darker liquids. I pretty actively dislike vodka, which makes me very odd to most folks (okay…I like a greyhound or sea breeze…)
I have to say one of my old time favorites is the Mai Tai at Trader Vic’s. We had a tradition of drinking those at a now-closed restaurant on the night before Christmas Eve and then going to see the tree and skaters at Rockefeller Center. (The restaurant wasn’t TV’s but the mai tais were a replica.) I have a collection of the swizzle sticks with the big plastic Menehune characters TV would put in certain drinks. Men were given the female ones and women the male ones. We’d keep them in our drinks and create what we’d call Menehune hot tubs.
I rarely have cocktails now – if I do, they’re pretty straight-forward bourbon drinks, like a Manhattan or Old Fashioned. I have a bottle of gin I got at a local distillery in The Berkshires, but it is unopened. I keep meaning to try it.
In any case, I don’t have anything that reminds me of a favorite cocktail on hand, but I’ll wearing Blanche Immortelle. My guess is it would pair nicely with a bourbon drink,
My favorite summer non-alcoholic drink is cherry lemonade – fresh lemon juice mixed with sparkling water and Torani cherry syrup to sweeten.
One of my girlfriends and I always ask each other, “want to be fancy and go have an old fashioned?” haha. We have a nice little bar here that’s somewhat upscale and makes great Old Fashioneds. We get dolled up and go.
Nice. There are certain restaurants where I feel compelled to order a whiskey sour. Such an old lady drink. But tasty.
Ohhhh, a well-made Mai Tai is fantastic, and Trader Vic’s would do a wonderful job, I’m sure. Also David Paul in Lahaina, if anyone is headed to Maui anytime soon.
I used to love a Manhattan. Straightforward but perfect.
I love Prosecco, Aperol Spritz and Campari as my drinks with %.
My favorite perfume that reminds me of cocktail is Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant and Liquides Imaginaires Dom Rosa is next in line.
Twins!
I tend to stick to wine and beer so it has been fun to read about all these exotic cocktails. Though it is only 930 am, I’m finding myself in the mood for a tipple!
Like jirish, I’m not sure if sangria counts as a cocktail but it is one of my favorite drinks. I spent a summer perfecting my recipe and may have to mix up a batch tonight.
I’m throwing on some Mohur to match. The connection may not be obvious but there is something about Mohur that makes me think of a complex, velvety red wine (which is just the type I like to use in my sangrias)
I don’t know what the official definition of a cocktail is, but to me, it’s anything alcoholic mixed with something else. We are not picky!
I’m wearing CdG Ouarzazate just cuz it smells so good.
Non drinker here but the movie theater I was at last night (The Alamo in Brooklyn) has a fun drink/food menu and excellent milkshake choices-mine of choice was the Toby Estate coffee espresso and chocolate. I’m a big fan of Toby Estate coffee.
I saw the film Eighth Grade which I really loved. Early teen social angst, but done in a really tender way. I recommend, especially if you liked Ladybird.
Good to know. I saw a preview of that movie a little while ago, and it looked interesting. By the way, my husband highly recommends Leave No Trace.
Yeah, that one got good reviews, too. It’s on my list!
Omg! Just watched the trailer- I must see this!
Your milkshake sound heavenly. Thanks for the movie recommendation; I’ve been wondering about that one. My neighbor and I see movies like this one, since our hubs don’t enjoy them.
FYI for giggles….spellcheck wanted to substitute Neanderthal for neighbor. ????
???? That’s funny!
I’m lucky my husband likes these kinds of movies-were he with me, he would have been the weepy one, but I saw it with a friend.
I loved Ladybird and thought about taking madtownkid to see Eighth Grade (she’ll be 13 in September) with me, the trailer looked really good.
Also, that shake sounds delicious! I’m a big fan of coffee flavored ice cream.
Oh, perfect then! The other theme is the centrality of social media. It’s almost another main character.
SOTD = Profumum Roma Acqua Viva & Vanitas
Base: Acqua Viva 6 sprays
Heart: Vanitas 4 sprays
Top: Acqua Viva 4 sprays
Vanilla Lemon Drop Cocktail – Martini recipe below:
https://www.creative-culinary.com/lemon-drop-martini/
I have never made this or any other cocktail at home and it’s probably a good thing. The cocktails I like tend to run sweet and they truly are empty calories. I am no ???? as I do satisfy the itch occasionally and I don’t stop at one ????
Looking forward to what others picked for today!
That cocktail looks yummy, but I have to admit your perfume combo sounds even better!
Thank you!
I followed your advice from a few months ago, and tried Eau des Merveilles Bleue in royal amounts.
It works! ???? Thanks.
And today I finally bought a small bottle..in blue its extra cute btw
Hooray! I assume you got the 30mL? That is super cute! It’s no longer available from the regular sites but, from what I heard, one can sell a kidney to get one on evilbay!
Yup 30 ml…still available here in stores in The Netherlands, no kindey selling was needed 😉
Yummy!
I may end up trying this but will likely used vanilla infused vodka.
Lemon, you say? Sounds good (perfume combo as well as drink)!
I thought about wearing a boozy fragrance everyday this week but I suddenly had an epiphany last night about layering to achieve the essence of a cocktail!
That cocktail does look good. I’ll have to try it one day, maybe watered down a bit.
Speaking of watering down, I thought Profumum Roma scents were supposed to be on the loud side. I’ve only actually smelled one or two, though, so maybe my idea of you moving through your day in a huge cloud of beautiful scent is mistaken.
Both of these are pretty concentrated. Vanitas sticks whereas Acqua Viva needs a heavy hand to last longer.
Not a drinker myself, current favorite beverage is ice cold key lime la croix.. so refreshing on a hot summer day.
SOTD is Heeley sel Marin.. I feel like I’m on a tropical beach somewhere far away. I picked up a bottle at scent bar in LA on Tuesday. It was my first trip to perfume Mecca and I have to say it was a little overwhelming. There were waaaaay too many things to smell also it was broiling hot and they didn’t have any air conditioning which couldn’t have been good for the perfumes. I wonder if it was just broken? Anyways.. I think I’m better off just ordering small amounts of samples and evaluating them a few at a time.
No AC in a perfume shop?!? That is no bueno. Which location did you visit, if you don’t mind my asking?
It was the original location in Hollywood. I had a gift certificate and left with Rania J Oud Assam and sel Marin. The SA said that they don’t carry everything in store that they do online. Still it was really cool to be in there for the first time!
Thanks! I hope to visit sometime this year, as my daughter lives in the Studio City area.
You do build up a tolerance over time. My nose used to burn out after sniffing about six things, and now I can sniff a dozen before I even have to take a break. The Scent Bar will also make you samples in-store, unless things have changed, so you can take a little time to make up your mind.
Okay I just bought 30 ml of Eau des Merveilles Bleue.
I swear…the heat made me do it. 😉
Wow! Congratulations ????
Thanks!
I just needed it!
I kept visiting the perfume stores during my lunch break or after work to try this scent on, now temperatures are above 82 Fahrenheit….and those temps are here to stay it seems.
Its so refreshing, like a dive into the sea!
So excited about my new bottle (albeit a small one), I forgot about a the community project.
Id pair Corsica Furiosa with a Bloody Mary! Simple but delicious.
Alas, my Corsica Furiosa sample is gone..
Yay! small bottles are adorable, and that Bleue bottle is exceptionally beautiful!
I am usually not a fan of breezy marine and clean perfumes, but this turned out to work for me in hot weather.
And I hardly layer fragrances but I have a feeling EdMB may be a good scent for layering…
Minty fresh in Imaginary Authors St. Julep today.
Some digestive issues have me avoiding alcohol (and citrus, caffeine, fatty foods and chocolate) for the foreseeable future, so I’ve been enjoying lots of water and herbal tea. Hibiscus Ginger from The Tao of Tea is a favorite, as is a handful of mint, grapefruit mint, lim balm and lemon verbena leaves from my herb garden, bruised a bit and steeped in the fridge. They are both good with a little agave. Also good with a cube of frozen orange juice! ????????
Hey, whoever mentioned T2tea recently gets a big ole enablers pin from me. I got a teapot for my daughter in law (early Christmas) and a 2L steeping pitcher that fits in the door of the fridge, both 50% off. Score, and thank you! Mwah!
Ugh, that would be *lime* balm.
I love the smell of lemon verbena. So good.
Me too, and it grows well here, luckily.
Scent twins!
Hibiscus Ginger Tea sounds yummy.
Bleah on the digestive issues! ???????? I hope that your restricted diet isn’t something permanent.
I hope not, too! I think I miss citrus the most. But I spray on something like Orange Sanguine, and it’s not so bad. ????
I like cocktails; and since I got into wines (we’re members of several wine clubs, and we visit wine country 4-5 times a year), I stopped drinking wine when going out and switched to cocktails: both economically and taste-wise it makes more sense since wine at home is much better than I can get at a restaurant for twice more.
Once I got that cocktail made for me – gin, cassis liquor, sparkling water and lemon were main ingredients. I tried repeating it at home but haven’t found the right proportion yet.
For today’s CP I’m wearing a cocktail of perfumes Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling (gin) and The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest (black currant). I tried adding some citrus on top, but since I’m not a big fan of lemon in perfumes, I couldn’t find the right ingredient. But the rest of the combination smells good to me.
Smart strategy about the wine!
Re: lemon in perfumes – have you tried Profumum Roma Acqua Viva? It is non-perfumey straight up lemon.
No, I have not: this brand isn’t easily available around here.
Question: does anyone know the history of Emeraude reformulations? My mom has an old, but not real old, bottle on her dresser. My guess is it is 15-20 years old… or resources where I can look to figure out based on bottle? More curiosity than anything else.
At the end of the article are the dates of the shown bottles. I do not know if that helps in some way.
http://themuseinwoodenshoes.com/perfume-review-vintage-coty-emeraude/
Thank you for that! It’s actually a Cologne Spray. Looks most similar to the one you said you originally owned. Color is a bit more olive oil than full lime green. I do remember my mom having a bottle of Emeraude perfume and Eau de parfum in the 60s and 70s. I used to steal bits of it. As you note, it was soft and powdery but at the same time very rich. I’ll try the cologne tomorrow and give my impressions. Could be it is that old. Mom didn’t go through scents very quickly…other than the Bvlgarie Femme one I gave her and Odalisque, which I brought from Paris. She also had old Avon Bird of Paradise, which is spicy. I may offer that one up in one of our freebies. I love it but have a bottle.
I came across this website and the article a couple of years ago when I saw a bottle of Emeraude on my aunt’s dresser that had belonged to my grandmother and she wanted to find out when it had been released. None of the bottles listed there were the ones. I just remembered that it smelled divine, even though I would not wear it myself. Not my cup of tea. My aunt keeps it as a treasure and once in a blue moon she dabs a little. But that bottle will last her forever.
ha! I remember Bird of Paradise…I wore quite a bit of Avon in my younger years.
If I’m not mistaken, Mals is a big Emeraude fan. Maybe she will see this.
That’s Mals’ blog perfumelover67 posted a link to, if I’m not mistaken. The preceding sentence is poorly composed, but it’s lateish and I’m tired.
Frescaessenza , a floral cocktail maybe?
Notes from the website:
Unisex Fragrance – Citrus, Woody

The Guggenheim yesterday was great
I love visiting the Guggenheim but I have not been there in quite a few years! What moved you today?
The Giacometti exhibit!
Hey, NSTers! For today’s project, I decided to celebrate the arrival of the weekend by choosing the queen of all cocktails: the Long Island.
Recipe? Ppffft. It has everything *and* the kitchen sink in it. The whole point of a Long Island is having someone else make it for you to drink.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_Island_Iced_Tea
Perfume Accompaniment? Whatever the heck you want. It doesn’t really matter because eventually your nose will go numb, and you won’t be able to smell it. What is that I’m wearing? It’s… Wait, I know this… Oh yeah: Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur. Yep. …Yes, I’ll have another Long Island, please….
What was I saying?… I dunno. …I love you guys. Have I told you that? I doooo! Seriously. Woooo! Hee hee hee… ‘Kay, have a good Frid— Zzzzzzzzzzz…
A good Li Iced Tea is a work of art.
Amen, sister!
Ha!
????
The first and last time I drank long Island ice tea, I ended up on the bathroom floor of the restaurant we were in, rolling around like a jackass and laughing hysterically (again, like a jackass!) about something I can’t remember. I somehow missed the seat and ended up on the floor. Those LIIT are deadly! ????
🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
????Yep, that’s a LI story. …Also sounds very much like something I would do. ????
What a visual!????????????
Heh, I remember the episode in Big Bang Theory where Sheldon just kept downing LIIT.
I must admit it is a very potent but yet it has a certain appeal if one wants to get buzzed with little to drink.
What did you wear? ????
(Did you mean me or Deva, there?????????)
I hadn’t seen that BB ep., so I had to search for it. “Call the Mad Hatter, ‘cause I’m havin’ a tea party!” ????
Once, while at lunch at my family’s favorite local Mexican place, I decided to try one of their LIs. In retrospect, given my familiarity with their margaritas, I should’ve had an inkling of what I was getting into: It came in a carafe(!), and it was exceedingly pale, not from the presence of ice but from the lack of cola. ???? It was epic.
I meant you ????
I love me a good margarita!
I never had a LIIT but it sounds like fun and also like something that would knock me out after two glasses. ????
It might only take one glass, if you get a good one.???? If you’re at a bar with a good drinks repertoire and in the mood for something that isn’t too sweet or fruity, you should try one.
Whoops, that what I just warned, hehehe.
If it’s a good one, you might not make it to the second. ????
You smell fantastic. I need to pull my decant out and wear it asap. I haven’t had a Long Island ice tea in probably 30 yrs. But I remember them fondly!????
I love a good G&T, especially if it includes some creative use of botanicals, so Jo Malone’s Blackberry & Bay sounds very much like my type of drink.
Very nice. Wonder if you could muddle a blackberry or two in the bottom of the glass along with, I dunno, lemon verbena?, and make your G&T fruity?

Robin may have posted this article before (i didn’t check) but it is about a perfume cocktail bar at the Ritz in Berlin where perfumes such as Jicky and Coco Madmoiselle have been deconstructed as cocktails. Other cocktails are served with perfume ingredients, like burning sandalwood etc. Quite interesting. I’m afraid to admit that our own liquer cabinet consists of a couple of dusty and sticky bottles shoved at the back of the shelf in the laundry. I think there is a vintage bottle of chartreuse and some grappa, some pernod and that’s it. Coco Madmoiselle Intense today…Saturday! Monday’s Fairy Godmother!
your liquor cabinet is better than mine because we don’t even have one!
That article is fascinating..thanks for sharing.
My liquor “cabinet” is the bottom corner shelf in my basement. I think I have 10 bottles of vinegar collecting dust. It may be my weekend project to clear it.
Nice! Makes me want to go to Berlin just to experience this!
Thanks for the link! I have a feeling I may have heard about it but forgot to follow through and actually read.???? Enjoy your Saturday!
I missed the article if it was posted before, so thank you!
Copying missionista from yesterday, I’m wearing You or Someone Like You for the mint note and mojito. I had a really good mango mojito last week at a Mexican restaurant, so I thought about layering Bombay Bling with YOSLY but it was too iffy for a work day. Bombay Bling’s musky mango is just on the edge of ok for work and with the cassis note in You, could be way too funky. I’d like to try the combo on a non work day though! I’m usually really averse to layering perfumes, but I’m intrigued by this one.
Do it, and report back, please.
I will! Maybe this weekend…
Why are you averse to layering perfumes?
I guess I feel like a purist – like a perfume should be considered on its own. I know some brands design their perfumes to be layered like Jo Malone, but for those that aren’t I feel bad about layering them. I know the perfume is mine to do as I please so it’s kinda silly. I also feel weird for the perfumer that their creation is getting changed with something else added to the mix. Plus what if the layering combo goes wrong and then I’ve wasted my sprays! Gives me a little anxiety lol.
I like to layer lotions and perfumes, but I try and do it within the same scent family. I feel bad too, about layering 2 actual perfumes on purpose. If one is fading though, I will throw a different one on top sometimes.
And I like to take creative license!
I’m with you on not mixing perfumes (even though for today’s CP I did it).
Ok, tried the layering mentioned above. First BB then You… it’s perfect. Smells just like the mango mojito I drank.
I stopped drinking once I had my kids. My favorite cocktail used to be Southern Comfort with Squirt and a bit of lime juice. My sotd is Alien Liquor.
You didn’t repel any co-workers today, did you?
It was so busy today, I didn’t have time to notice the jerks. I only noticed how great I smelled!
It just so happens that someone *may* have poured a bit of Grey Goose into her party empty can of Squirt today.????
“partly” Gah.
Squirt is an underrated mixer, imo.
Missed out on smelling that version of Alien. The Alien series seem to be a favored scent line of yours.
Yes, I loved the original Alien since it launched. I’ve tried to smell as many as possible, but have missed a few. My favorite that I own is The Taste of Fragrance version. I missed out on the Sapphire version because I was on a no buy at the time. I still sad about it because it was glorious. Oranges mixed with purple kool aid smell. I would like to get the Oud one before it disappears.
I’m in Bronze Goddess pretending like I’m back at Barrachina in Old San Juan where they created the original piña colada. I can taste it right now!
I wonder if pineapple juice topped with some La Croix Coconut sparkling water would make a nice drink for your challenge?
Oooh I bet it would! I’m already a LaCroix fiend! Gonna try that and report back.
I’m on day 5 of the challenge and have to say I do feel better physically (sleep and digestion mainly). The only thing that makes it tough for me today is the social aspect. So many weekend activities involve beer or cocktails haha!
I love a traditional Margarita as a sour and salty treat. With some Eau de Gaga to amp up the lime.
Am deep in the Scottish Highlands so no Margarita for me today. I love malt whiskey but do not want to smell of it!!!
That sounds marvelous. Eau de Gaga has one of the best lime notes I’ve smelled.
Haha! I love the smell, and wouldn’t mind smelling of it. But despite being plied with it weekly by my Scottish husband, have not developed a taste for it!
Not even Drambuie?
This girl from the SW US once ran across a quite decent margarita at a restaurant in Stirling. ????
I’m always on the lookout for the “perfect” margarita. I may never find it, but the search will be fun!
Do you like strawberry or lime or both?
These days I tend towards lime and not frozen. I did have an excellent strawberry one in San Diego back in the 1990’s, though.
If you are every in Houston try Picos on Kirby. They have the most extensive margarita menu I’ve ever seen, and the charming waiter can explain all the nuances of each….
Did I have a margarita tonight? Why, yes, I did. I had 1.5 because I knew if I finished the second it was trouble. I’m in CA…it’s very hot and it’s required to go to the local Mexican place for food and drink.
Back in the day (the 1980s, which is starting to sound a very long time ago!), I loved Brandy Alexanders, so delicious and so easy to drink too many!! More recently, I couldn’t resist a cocktail called Chanel No 5. I can’t even recall if I liked it, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t smell or taste quite like the perfume 🙂
Meanwhile, I’m stil, perfume-less as I linger over breakfast, and I’m planning to do the Saturday morning housework in a cloud of Samsara.
And I meant to add that, much as I love Samsara, I certainly wouldn’t want to drink anything that smells like it!
You should read Kanuka’s comment!
Another gorgeous summer day here. The cats took full advantage of it, sleeping in any and every sunbeam they could find. Meow. ????????
SOTD = Diptyque’s Tempo. When it’s right, it’s right. The cocktail to match is St. Augustine Distillery’s “The Florida Mule from Scratch”.
1.5 oz Florida Cane Vodka
1.5 oz ginger-lime simple syrup
Top with soda water.
Mint leaves for garnish.
I’d add a lot of mint leaves and maybe some chopped up candied ginger to the mix, just for grins.
Tempo was a miss for me but that drink sounds fabulous!
If you try the cocktail, I hope it works out for you!
That cocktail sounds great!
Still have to try Tempo….
When a Florida Mule is done right, it is perfect for hot summer weather.
Love a ginger-lime combo; that drink does sound good.
The fun thing about the St. Augustine Distillery is that they give tours of their operation. You end up at a bar where someone will make mixed drinks for the group. And then, of course, you exit through the gift shop…
The drink sounds fabulous…and of course, you also smell fab!
Thank you! Tempo is playing hide and seek with me today. Sometimes I won’t smell it, then it pops up out of nowhere.
I did it! I ordered a Salted Cream Iced Tea (black) and I loved it. While the Cold Brew version is really good, my body is happier with the less potent Iced Tea. I will try it with Green Tea next time.
Commuting Woes No.440 & 441:
– I don’t have particularly long legs, nor do I extend them out like some people do, yet, twice this week, I got stepped on! It sounds like I need to find a spiky shoe accessory. My textural ring came in and it is beautiful; however, it is not as popped out as I thought so it probably won’t be a leaner deterrent. I am keeping it anyway and will continue to hunt for the right ring and / or bracelet.
– driving towards the gated exit of the parking deck, my car almost got involved in a collision because a moronic driver decided to take a shortcut instead of circling around to properly exit her parking section. I was hoping the cop sitting inside a patrol car by the exit would ticket the woman, but no! He was probably engrossed in his mobile device. The city should really police the entrances and exits because too many cars have been violating the rules (picking up their passengers from the entrance / bus lane and doing a U-turn in a highly trafficked intersection – all the cops really need to do is ticket the violators once or twice a week and word will spread like wildfire.
I forgot to mention that work-wise, implementation of the project will occur with just the 1-week delay which is good news for many but definitely fraught with risks due to being very close to month end!
So you sort of got a reprieve at work with that project?
I totally hear you on parking garages… have had some encounters recently with people who got their licenses out of a Cracker Jack box!
Not a reprieve but the overall program team had to assess the risk of going a week later than originally planned given the late -breaking news that they (we) will not be allowed to implement at the original timeframe. My work stream had no issues with the one week delay although we had to replan a few items.
I found but did not buy a possible contender to fight the people who like to crush my fingers — a unicorn ring, complete with a sharpish horn:

Eeeeek, it is actually the 1st pink ring in the second set of images.
It looks like it’s made of plastic – but you need something metal, I think.
It looks like plastic but It’s actually metal ????

and you could have a perfume/shoe match
Wow… These can do a serious damage! 🙂
That looks deadly! Need to find the flats equivalent as I am apt to stab myself with that heel!
I’ve never actually seen someone get pulled over for driving stupidly, except for speeding.
The person went the wrong way on a one way lane, pretty much directly onto oncoming cars exiting from the deck.
That’s pretty much insane!
I’m in Azemour les Orangers today. Lately my party cocktail (works in a large carafe) is a variation on a Moscow Mule. I mix together spicy ginger beer and good quality ginger ale, vodka, lots of fresh lemon juice, and handfuls of chopped and muddled fresh mint leaves… that’s it. Serve in a pitcher and pour over ice in short glasses. Cheers!
I like Moscow Mules, so it sounds like I should try Azemour. Putting it on the “To Try” list!
Oh, do! Azemour is gorgeous!
Now you use both ginger beer and ginger ale so the end product isn’t too yeasty? (I am not sure if I’ve ever even had ginger beer.)
Naw. Much more pedestrian. The ginger beer we get is so dry and spicy, that I like to lighten it a bit with ginger ale.

The difference? Here’s a quote from Huffington Post:
The big difference between ginger beer and ginger ale is that ginger beer is brewed (fermented) but ginger ale is just carbonated water that’s been flavored with ginger. … And some large-scale soda companies that still produce ginger beer actually make it by adding a stronger ginger flavor to carbonated water.
Interesting and way more than I knew, thank you!
No points for me today. If I had participated, I would have worn Eau du Soir for it’s gin and tonic vibe. I wasn’t feeling it this morning, so I went with White by Puredistance. I guess there are mixed feelings on this scent but I think it’s a beauty. It may just be my next purchase.
Hey, if you aren’t feeling it, you aren’t feeling it. Been there.
White is a fantastic perfume!
Second this – Puredistance White is deeply addictive!
I love White! You smelled great.
And there are deals…I will send you an email.
One of our favorite summertime activities is attending as many outdoor concerts as possible. Fortunately, where we live, they are plentiful and one can find everything ranging from classical music to local classic rock tribute bands almost any night of the week. Many park district concerts are free and our favorites are those that allow ‘bring your own’ picnics.
Our favorite summertime beverage to bring is a jug of margaritas, and my favorite accompanying fragrance is Tommy Bahama Set Sail St. Bart’s for Women layered over BBW’s Coconut Lime Verbena lotion. (Top notes are tequila and lime; middle notes are floral; base notes are sand, guaiac wood, and musk.) To paraphrase an oft-quoted comment here (and were it possible), I could *drink* my arm!
We’ re off to tonight’s concert-in-the-park, our local civic orchestra playing Broadway. Cheers!
What beverage did you bring today?
Margaritas, to go along with today’s theme, and my St. Bart’s!
My favorite special drink is a Pomegranate martini. i thought I had some Pomegranate body spray to match but can’t find it, so I’m fragrance free tonite. Mix this in your martini shaker and enjoy!
2 oz Raspberry vodka
1 oz Cointreau
2 oz Pomegranate juice
4 oz Cranberry juice
Thanks for the recipe!
*warning*.. goes down like kool-aid! They are so good.
My favorite summer drinks are non alcoholic refreshers.Blackberry basil lemonade and sweet lemonade with cucumber slices and fresh mint.
I’m wearing a Commodity Gin sample today that a lovely person gifted me.It’s OK for a brief period of time then just gone.Fun to wear but I probably wouldn’t buy it.I do have a cucumber perfume oil from Body Time I might wear later and layer it with my ancient Philosophy Tea that has a mint note.
Ooh, I didn’t know Philosophy had a tea fragrance.
The one I have is from around 2005.They had a Tea scent (mint tea),Sugar and Lemon. It was fun to layer the scents, but the lemon wasn’t my favorite. They came out with a similar concept set a few years ago that had tea, honey and, fresh cream.
Cucumber perfume oil, you say? Is it strictly a cucumber perfume? And I will have to try cucumber slices in my lemonade.
It is a cucumber perfume oil,not edible but still very refreshing.
Ooh, your summer beverages sound delicious, refreshing and easy! Taking notes!
Thank you!
I am primarily a wine drinker, when I drink. Between my acid reflux and intolerances/sensitivities, mixers are as problematic as liquor. (Those Portland Syrups look tempting, though.) My use of a cocktail shaker has been limited in recent years to making county-fair style lemonade:
Put 1/4 cup sugar in a cocktail shaker (adjust to taste). Squeeze half a medium-sized lemon over it, and then chuck the squeezed lemon into the shaker, too. You can score the peel a little to release some oil, if you’re feeling ambitious. Fill the shaker with cold water, and shake vigorously. (If you have, say, a seven-year-old nephew, you might be able to delegate this job. Be sure to remind any would-be assistants to hold the lid on while they shake.) If you have a standard cocktail shaker, the resulting mixture will need to be diluted, so pour it over two 12-ounce glasses of crushed ice and let the ice melt a little. Simple but delicious, and does not require turning on the stove to make simple syrup.
To complement it, I am wearing Carthusia Ligea La Sirena, which has a lovely soft lemon note. It’s one of the “Shalimar-esque” scents that I much prefer to actual Shalimar. If you like lemon and opoponax, it’s well worth trying.
Stay cool, everyone. Or warm, if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere.
Your SOTD sounds intriguing. I’ll have to make a note to try it.
