Happy Tuesday and happy Nikola Tesla Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I am commando at the moment: I'm on vacation and I am going to go jump in a lake (not the one shown above) shortly. (And I'm also behind...if you've left me a comment here and I haven't answered it yet, I hope to catch up by the end of the day.)
Reminder: 7/13 will be Aquatic Friday...wear an aquatic or something meant to evoke the sea.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am testing a new niche brand Fo’ah, a sample I bought of the evil bay.
I tried it over the weekend and I am still trying it out.
Have a great time Robin!
I don’t like aquatic fragrances, they never last on my scent eating skin so I will to a haiku for Friday for points.
Thank you! I like some aquatic fragrances but as is often the case I am mystified by the selection I have with me, which is not what I thought. I may have to do something like that for Friday too.
Following the aquatic theme with Aqua Sextius from Jul et Mad Paris.
This one is no winner on me – comes across as an expensive classic male aftershave – fresh and marine, but just this side of mediocre.
Ugh, sorry!
Have a nice swim, Robin! I am jealous.
I am in BOIS 1920 Oltremare, one of my favorite aquatics.
And yesterday I wore Acqua di Parma Mirto di Panarea, which is not an aquatic but has ‘sea breeze accents’. Anyway, I think all scents in AdP Blu Mediterraneo line work for this project.
I just picked up a sample of this. I liked it on the tester strip.
Have fun testing! I hope you’ll like it on your skin.
Water is perfect today, thanks Glannys!
And I think you’re right about AdPBM.
They even have sea-themed images on Blu Mediterraneo page – https://www.acquadiparma.com/en-ww/blu-mediterraneo
So I think it’s official. 😉
And I have just picked my Lush shower gels at the post office! I need Grass for my summer showers. And Flying Fox smells lovely. American Cream is a bit disappointing though. To me, hair conditioner smells nicer, while the shower gel has a slightly synthetic note. Maybe I’ll like it more in the shower.
I’m hoping that the US Lush stores get some of the goodies that you now have. Lucky you!
I hope you will. A lot of customers in the US are interested in liquid shower gels and would buy plenty.
Oh yay!
Ah, lake swimming is the best. Enjoy! I am breathing deeply in my Bel Ami.
You smell wonderful! Is yours the current version or more vintage-y?
Vintage, a tiny mini in the martini shaker bottle. Sigh, I’m so head over heels for it. Better start saving.
Dang! I’m so envious of your mini. Good luck hunting for (and saving for) something more. 🙂
Guess I hadn’t considered jumping in some water to get an aquatic scent…..
I have now set a date for a live Boston swap party. It will be on Thurs 7/19, starting around 6:30. Even if you don’t have anything to swap, I’d be perfectly willing to give stuff away. My screen name is my yahoo address
Live swapping is such a dreamy idea – I wish there were more of us in Minneapolis!
Oh, have a great swap party! You’ll have loads of fun! 🙂
Have a wonderful time!!!
Have fun!
Have a wonderful time on your vacation Robin!
Today I am wearing SSS Voile de violette
I adore Sonoma Scent Studio, you smell lovely!
Thank you ! So many of SSS scents are easy to love 🙂
Thank you!
I will wear Xerjoff Lira today.
I tried the Chanel Les Eaux over the past couple days and Venise and Deauville were my favorites. Venise reminded me of 1932/Misia and/or YSL Paris Premiere Roses at various times when I wore it. Deauville…I’d kind of describe as Coco Mlle Light but in a good way. 😉 They are all nicely done and have the Chanel formula but none of them made me want to immediately get more. They are all lower sillage with so-so longevity.
“But in a good way” lol
I snorted at “but in a good way”.
I checked the notes of Deauville the other day and thought it looks like something I may like. Thanks for the mini review.
You’re making me want to try these so bad.
I love the image- can’t tell if it’s a photo or painting, but there’s something somber about it.
I’m wearing Cire Trudon II which smells like dewy, sweet greens and coniferous woods. Nice for the hot day we’re expecting (and wondering why on earth I wore long sleeves today).
It’s a photo!
And you smell great.
Sounds refreshing!
Melograno x2 cause middle marzipan is sharing it with me 🙂
here is my contribution to the CP for the entire week
https://www.saatchiart.com/art/Painting-Pomegranate-sailboats-and-seagulls-at-the-sea/300119/2623352/view
Perfect!
Hope you are enjoying yourself, Robin 🙂
Thoroughly, thanks!
So glad you are on vacation Robin. Enjoy! You deserve it!
Another decant gone: Terre d’Hermes. It has always been on my fb “to buy list”. I love it. For some strange reason, I am connecting my father today with Terre d’Hermes. It reminds me of him or a place, situation, etc. related to him. I don’t know exactly.
I think I will finish all what is left of my summer decants by next week. Then I will work on samples and full bottles. I am really enjoying this “Use it Up” project. It is very liberating!
Yay!!!! another one done 🙂
It is liberating, right? and we are smelling good and enjoying the moment…I have come to the understanding that life ebbs and flows and permanency is rare so why am I hoarding/saving fragrances? I want to enjoy them all now…lots and lots of lashings of great stuff 🙂
No more hoarding/saving fragrances for me. Life is too short and this is the time to enjoy everything I have and feel more free! ????
I hope the connection to your father is comforting today! I’ve also been focusing my attention on what I already have and have been spraying more liberally. Agree, it’s liberating!
And on that note, I finished a 15ml bottle of Banana Republic Vintage Green which was a gift and didn’t love to wear so I used it as a room spray by spraying a bunch of silk flowers-they make a good diffuser ????
I have done this with a few bottles! Glad I’m bot the only one????
Not not bot
Duh
The connection of Terre d’Hermes to my father is fortunately comforting and peaceful.
I also need to check which perfumes can have a different use and enjoy them in a different way. I am going to reduce the amount I have significantly rhis year.
I have used perfumes as hand sanitizer. Years ago my mom carried a bottle of 4711 in her purse for the same usage.
Thank you!
So will you buy TdH now?
Maybe some day….
🙂
What’s wonderful about scents is they do evoke memories or cause you to connect with someone, even when you’re not sure why. In some ways that’s even better…just that sense. Hope you enjoy it thoroughly.
That can also be a downside, however…
I agree that is so unique and amazing when connections with perfumes happen, no matter if they evoke happy or sad memories. My father never wore Terre d’Hermes, so that is why I found to be so special to be smelling TdH and automatically remembering my father. It was so peaceful. I just want to think that he wanted me to know he is still watching over me.
Sounds like you have made quite the dent in your sample stash. Bravo!
I have made lots of progress. Let’s see how much I can finish from now to the end of the year!
In L.A. visiting daughter who LOVED my gift of VC&A’s California Reverie!
I am still testing out my orange blossom/Neroli theme with PdN Cap Neroli (madlove!), and I have a couple of other samples waiting for me back home. A perfect theme for such hot weather!
I AM LEMMING MELOGRANO CM8!!
LOL!!! SORRRRYYYYYYY !!!!!!!! Not trying to encourage anyone to start lemming something 😉 …..rather trying to encourage non hoarding and using up what we have before buying more 🙂
There’s some Orange blossom in there!! The pomegranate note sounds like a nice contrast, and not too fruity – just tart?
Have a great vacation Robin, I hope that it isn’t too hot where you are!
My daughter’s poor orange teee isnt fairing too well! The leaves are all curled and the L.A. vegetation looks cooked!
Not really fruity or tart to my nose…it has a vintage vibe to it….a la Emeraude or Chanel no 22….it is kind of musky and powdery and definitely unisex…but there is also something clean and brisk, if that makes any sense? I find it to be a great non citrus summer scent….
Someone on fragrantica described it as a “clean, powdery, iris chypre”….I am fairly certain mine is vintage as it has an older label and I am sure the oakmoss is real.
Thank you, weather here is perfect!
Today’s SOTD is Sud Pacifique’s Cool Tropic Palm, with notes of citrus, melon, oceanic, aquatic, lotus, mahogany, rose and musk. Not my usual love but this one is quite enjoyable when I want something light.
Have a restorative vacation Robin!
So far it looks like it will work out that way, thanks SmokeyToes!
That is a CSP I have not tried. I was just wishing I’d brought Gouverneur with me.
Back to Ormonde Jayne Woman again. It remains my #1.
I wore that yesterday – it’s so gorgeous.
That’s a good #1 to have! You smell great!
Ormonde Woman is also my number 1 for nearly 10 years now. But I got a sample of Ormonde Man and sometimes, when I need an extra bolt of lightening around me, I try that too. My bottle of Bois de Violette (Serge Lutyens) is also a got- (usually when my Ormonde Woman has run out!). Have you tried OJ’s new Nawab of Oudh?
I am back at work this week after vacation. I had such a great (and perfume-filled) trip!
I was visiting my husband’s family in Lebanon, and went to a perfume vendor at a souk. He let us smell attars with varying levels of oud in them. I ended up with a small rollerball of an unnamed perfume that he recommended for me. 🙂 Quite a memorable experience.
We stopped in London for a couple days on the way back, where I made a few purchases! At Liberty, they had some Aedes fragrances marked down to 95 pounds! I had a really hard time deciding between Signature and Iris Nazarena, but decided on the Iris and am really thrilled to finally own one of their perfumes.
From duty-free, I bought a set of 4 Hermes miniature bottles (Jour d’Hermes Absolu, Rhubarbe Ecarlate, Twilly, and Eau des Merveilles) and a bottle of Chanel Deauville. I also sniffed the new Hermessences and loved Cedre Sambac and Myrrhe Eglantine! They are going on my wishlist.
Enjoy your vacation, Robin!
Nice haul!
Wow, 2nd the nice haul comment! Sounds like a great trip.
wow!!! That is a lot of great shopping
lovely stuff! (I was too slow off the mark for the Aedes cheapos at Liberty, damn it!) The souk outing sounds like a lot of fun, too.
I was really surprised by the Aedes on sale!
Wonderful report! Enjoy your purchases!
Vacationing where you get to try and buy a new scent is always very special.
Very true. Even though I didn’t buy it (yet….), Cedre Sambac will always remind me of Lebanon because of their famous cedar trees and the jasmine growing everywhere!
You picked out some nice souvenirs from your trip 🙂
I hope they bring back wonderful memories for you, as well as smelling great !!
WOW!
Wow!! At that price, you should’ve gotten both Aedeses 🙂 Wonderful haul!
I definitely considered it…!
Nice haul!
Strategy for dealing with Tuesday: Lipstick On (!)
(Replica MMM, of course, with Revlon Rich Girl Red)
Robin, that lake sounds blissful; hope you get to enjoy it to the max!
I love Lipstick On, you smell great!
Thank you!
I love lipstick! Enjoy the red color
You smell and look great! I love a red lippy!
Love Lipstick On!
Following along with the Use It Up gang, I’ve done 4 sprays of Nu Green, by Honore des Pres. I’m a 2 spray kinda girl, so this leaves me unusually aromatic this morning.
Welcome to the club!!!
I am wearing my sample of 4160 Tuesdays Sunshine & Pancakes and greatly enjoying it.
I’m in the office early after taking a couple of days off last week to visit Sonoma with friends for wine-tasting plus helping our host friends with clearing some fire damage. We had coffee and yoga every morning on the deck of their guest house (with a gorgeous view). That alone was pretty much a perfect vacation.
And happy vacation to you, Robin!!
Thank you! Coffee and yoga on the deck every morning sounds fantastic.
That sounds positively dreamy.
Yes, agree with that being perfect.
That makes me sigh with pleasure…. all of it, including the sunshine & pancakes.
That sounds wonderful! And you smell great. 🙂
SOTD is 24 Faubourg. Nothing aquatic about it. 🙂
Nope!
All the flowers in that one. You smell fabulous.
You smell great, though!
No, and I love it!
Not aquatic at all but very elegant!
Continuing exploring my (mostly) untouched discovery sets, today I’m wearing Rhinoceros. I’m not getting anything but leather.
A rhinoceros is just a chubby unicorn. No rainbows? ????
lolol
I would definitely have had a spit take reading this if I were sipping something. ????
I will never unsee the mental image I got when I read your post, of a rhino on a treadmill with a photo of a unicorn taped to his wall.
tee hee!
Robin, so glad you are getting a vacation. I’m wearing the very last of my bottle of Fresh Cream. If I was a repurchaser, this would be one I would get again. Yesterday I drained a sample of Pomelo Paradise, and honestly, it didn’t work for me at all
I have to work tonight, and right now, I plan on wearing Gucci Rush, because I miss it, and also I am not happy with my coworkers, LOL
Hee hee….”kill” them with your fragrance choice 😉 …I happen to LOVE Rush…..so you would make me happy -LOL!
The Bright Crystal coworker is back from vacation today, so I’m spraying very heavy. This bottle is almost empty, so my back up will be opened soon.
Great for another bottle finished. ????.
Punish your coworkers the most you can!????
Oh, I am…. like Dawn, we are having issues over breaks????
I had the sentence “In the name of perfume, I punish you!” go through my head reading about your SOTD.
Ha!
Thank you lillyjo, and hope your coworkers get nicer!
Go big and let them go home!
Enjoy your vacation, Robin! You’ll be wearing a literal aquatic scent after your swim 😉
My SOTD: Sarabecca Neroli.
Exactly.
I hope you’re having a good vacation, Robin!
I’m wearing EB Florals Apollo Hyacinth today.
Spent the morning at a neurologist appointment and found out I have to get another MRI. I expected I would have to, but blergh nonetheless.
Best to you and your MRI. Enjoy the EB.
Good luck with your MRI. You smell pretty today!
Fingers crossed that your MRI went well! ????
Thank you, and sorry about the MRI!
Good luck with your MRI.
I am taking a broad view of ‘aquatic’ this week. SOTD yesterday was Olfactive Studio Still Life in Rio, one of my fave summer scents. ‘Rio’ means river, and the city of Rio is on the water, so… that’s aquatic, right? Right! SOTD today is TF Fleur de Portofino; the city of Portofino is on the water, so: also aquatic.
I love your reasoning!
Me too!
And Portofino’s original name is apparently Portus Delphini (Port of the Dolphin), so you are on theme with “something meant to evoke the sea”.
Well played!
Great approach!
Nicely thought out!
Good morning Y’all!
Wearing Kenzo Flower in the Air…..or at least I was! I put it on at 8am, and it’s gone now at 11am…. 🙂
the fragrance is literally in the air!
That must be why I only paid $10 for it! HA HA
Wearing MPG Tubéreuse which is not aquatic by any means!
I’m in NVC Rahele today. It’s been a tough day at work, so now I’m going to relax and maybe go swimming too.
Swimming is a great way to unwind and relax. Enjoy..
You smell great.
You smell wonderful. At least your work day is done.
I wore Champagne to work. Lubberly peach, atc. Also detected something along the way my nose says would be dry paper-y musk but I doubt there’s musk in there. So let’s say oddball vetiver. Don’t really get ‘chypre’ in this but who cares; it’s too good on its own merits.
Then sprayed on my second try of FM Superstitious when I got back home. The first time if got full-on rotten halitosis as a top note. The second time (now) it says white-peppered halitosis so at least Superstitious is getting it culinary business together. Hm.
*etc. And neither is an aquatic 😀
Omg, what a terrible top note!????
It’s either overtly indolic jasmine or cumin. I’d say cumin since Jicky had the same impact on me . . . and my long departed dear grandmother (and *she* certainly never wore any Jicky or indolic jasmine).
I actually do get chypre from Champagne, perhaps because I’m overly sensitive to those notes? (it’s a genre I have a hard time with.)
Depends what a ‘fruity’ chypre smells like. It’s certainly peachy, and shares some characteristics with vintage Coco (which is an oriental which peach+rose) and there’s something that definitely plays tuba in the background. But it’s not ‘oakmoss’ to me tho. Old Mitsouko – now THAT’S oakmoss.
But I must say that any one perfume I wear smells *slightly* different every time so who knows. I got nice whiffs of rose out of Champagne just the other day and it’s quieter today with peach in the foreground.
Ewww! ????
I sprayed A La Nuit on top. It’s behaving better now.
Yikes! Halitosis as a top note is a big NOPE! Or any other kind of note for that matter.
Ha! Bad breath is a note I’ve smelled in several perfumes – Encens Mythique d’Orient and Amouage Blossom Love. I didn’t get it in Superstitious as that smelled fizzy soapy to me instead.
Quick wave by:
1) In Cap Neroii with dabs of Uma Wellness oil in Calm.
2) I am doing final database testing with my team. Pray for me.
???? hopefully your calm oil will do the trick.
It really is very calming and centering!
Aaww… I hope your day ends up being better than expected.
It’s tense. But it is getting there.
Hope it goes well!
I still haven’t tried Cap Neroli but will remedy this soon.
I really love it= it has all the notes I love, well rendered into a summer scent. I hope when you try you will like it as well.
Good luck!
Thank you! I think we were able to do it!
Excellent !
Continuing on my quest to finish Bois Blonds. I sprayed very generously this morning. Even so, I know it will be gone in a few hours and then maybe I will finish a sample from the stash.
I am finding the samples easier to finish, because I can pour them on. The hard part is the ones I truly love, I am still saving.
Here in Team mix-it-up where we are too fickle even to keep the same team name from day to today let alone the same scent…there’s a sneaky advance wearing of the future EDP version of Naja going on. It is making me feel deliciously like the wicked queen in Snow White, all leather and red apples.
Oohh…. I want to smell like the wicked queen! Leather and apples, sounds amazing
Intriguing!Leather and apples!!Sounds right up my alley
Wow, that sounds fantastic for cooler weather!
So something fun today. My fiancé and I get to be extras on a Netflix show that is being filmed here in Albuquerque. My fiancé knows the casting director and they needed “upscale” cars for a party scene, which my finance’s is apparently considered so she asked us to use it and be extras. Should be a fun day! It has Uma Thurman and Tony Goldwyn it it so I’m excited for a little celebrity spotting. 😉
To battle the heat I’m in the Orange Sanguine and Assam of India combo someone (I apologize for forgetting who) mentioned yesterday and it is great!!
Hey, that’s really exciting!
That does sound fun! Now you’ll have to tell us what you both wore and what fragrance, too!
The scene is for a big summer party…lots of pastels and neutrals. My guy is wearing khaki pants with a light blue cotton short sleeve, button up shirt with a tan vine running through it. It’s super cute though he hates it haha! I believe I am wearing a pale pink, gauzy maxi dress- they haven’t given me the final verdict though. They have costume people here of course but we also brought some of our own clothes.
I’m still wearing my Assam of India and Orange Sanguine combo. 🙂
Very fun! Great scent choice too.
That’s fun! And you smell really good.
Have fun!
SUPERFUN!Have a great time!
That sounds so fun! Looking forward to hearing all about it 🙂
That sounds so cool! ????
That is so fun!
How exciting for you and your fiancé!
Started the morning in Rive Gauche, which is lovely. Then I came here and was reminded that I’d meant to dig out my decant of Copal Azur. I don’t generally respond to incense notes (and I’d never have pegged this as incense on my own, only having exposure to the Nag Champa variety.) Copal Azur, however, really does it for me. I may need more…
We have enjoyed delicious meals the past 2 nights from restaurants within a few blocks from our house. Sunday was some very homey Dominican; last night stellar Lebanese.
Tonight we’ll hit up our local farmers’ market. Fingers crossed that It’s a good one. Seattle may have spoiled me a bit for readily available locally grown organic and heirloom produce, grass-fed milk, pasteured pork, and truly free-range eggs and the like. I may also just need to look harder.
Enjoy your vacation, Robin!???? ????????
Hope the farmer’s market is a good one. When I visit friends living far away or travel to a new city, I always try to visit an outdoor market.
Good luck at the farmer’s market. And I love Lebanese!
Tell me more about these restaurants…
Cedarland between 25th & Scranton by MetroHealth, and La Morenita on 25th a few blocks south of Clark. I’m not sure what neighborhood you’re in now that you’ve moved?
Thanks for the tips! Same neighborhood, new apartment.
Hi kpaint- you smell Divine in Copal Azur!!! It is in my top 5!!!!
And Yes you need MORE!!
That pic is so calming, so soothing, I just want to stare at it all day.
Water is my thing. Get me near a body of water and I’m happy.
SOTD: Sour le toit de Paris
Off to lunch!
You smell really lovely. That’s a good one.
You’re wearing one of my favorite Atelier colognes.
In Parfum de Nicolai’s Just un Reve, because it’s a sample I have with me and I’d like to not bring all of them back. It’s supposed to be beachy, so we’re near the aquatic. Unfortunately, I just handled dried porcini and the Reve and the mushrooms don’t go together that well…
Been trying more of the 4 and 5 star scents from the guide, and continue to be baffled. Tried Angel Muse today – just seemed loud and like all the other Angels I’ve sniffed. Tried cologne L’homme ideal and got a bit of a toilet cleaner vibe.
Happy Tuesday!
So interesting. I swear I’ve never even tried Angel, but I did get a small bottle of Angel Muse – to me it is close and cozy, especially on a winter scarf.
Maybe the season matters – in winter, maybe what seemed cloying to me would feel cuddly.
I’ve never tried it in warmer weather. Only in cold because, as you said, it was cuddly. I had forgotten I sprayed it until this delicious hazel nutty, vanilla scent wafted up from my wool scarf as I was waiting (on a very cold day) to cross the street. Snuffle, snuffle.
The only version of Angel I ever bought (and probably still have somewhere) is the one with violet and a sort of purple glass bottle. I used to love that and wear it a lot but it then began to seem too overpowering.
I’m wearing Pamplelune this morning and thinking that this would also layer beautifully with Assam of India. Might try it later.
I dislike aquatic fragrances so my project arsenal is tiny. I think I have one that qualifies and I’ll save it for Friday. This week’s task is to cull my collection for the fall swap. I’ve decided that some of this stuff has to go, it’s just taking up too much valuable real estate in the cabinet.
Aquatic fragrances aren’t often nice to my nose too. I have a few that are aquatic-adjacent, they call to mind the sea. I’ll have to go wide for this week’s project. It’s fun that way.
Might go with MH Fleurs de Sel on Friday, if I am not emptying a bottle, ‘cos aquatic doesn’t do it for me either.
Fleurs de Sel is gorgeous! I have my sample out for the summer rotation.
SotM = Terracotta, day 2
Terracotta’s a winner two days running, enjoyed 6 big spritzes this morning. I’ll add some 4711 later. In a humid patch of weather, very unusual here. The cloud cover is keeping temps down a bit.
Beautiful photo up top today. I’ve lived all except three years of my life near a coast, very grateful for that. Water is life and is sometimes therapy too. Walking along the shore is deeply restorative.
Pulled weeds, picked a red rose, and tidied the garden this morning, all in all a very soul-satisfying effort. After perfume, what’s your self-care for today? 😀
Beautiful….. everything ⛱️????
thanks, cm8! I smell summer at the beach. 😀
Drinking plenty of water and having a square of Theo cherry almond dark chocolate. ????❤️
oh!!! Theo chocolate is so good, I just added the cherry almond dark to the top of my wishful shopping list. I’ve got so much dark chocolate in this house already I have to wait to buy more.
You and me both…I have quite the stash.
Pulling out a favorite tea for the late afternoon caffeine boost! And I could really use it today.
Excellent way to energize for the afternoon. There’s something exquisite about a favorite cuppa at 2 or 3 o’clock. 🙂
I don’t think I have any aquatics with me…not really my bag, unless you count Eau de Merveilles (which is nit wiht me.)
I’m in the finish it up theme. Abundant sprays of Smell Bent Cocoa Rose from a sample I wanted to finish. Stella on top.
Quick vent: I am so sick of dealing with this one bank that also has an investment side. I’ve had four conversations on one account, and now I have to go back into a Branch to complete paperwork. And bring with me all the documentation I already faxed them…which they apparently just entered into a system and let it sit there. So, that will be at least another hour of my time. Then it goes to documentation folks…again…who will re-register the account apparently. But I’ll have to follow up again to confirm when it’s done. By calling an 800 number that puts me in a queue just to get to a representative who then transfers me to another department, so that is a second hold. The upshot is that all of this could have been administratively handled by the original banker I dealt with weeks back. Thankfully, not all banks have been like this. Awful service. Means I’ll close this account sooner rather than later.
My aunt had a similarly frustrating time dealing with Key Bank after my grandmother died. All she was trying to do was close out her mother’s checking account, which had about $300 in it. They wouldn’t give her any assistance whatsoever except to tell her she needed to hire an attorney. It took months to close the account and get the pittance released.
Best to you with all of this. None of it is easy.
And I’d put EdM in the aquatic category – why not? ????????⛵????
Ah, banks. When my 3rd grandfather (grandma was married twice) passed away many years ago, we found the key to a mystery safety deposit box in his things. My mother was executor of his estate. She asked the bank if they would look to see if the box had anything in it. She just wanted to know if it was empty or not. They refused. She had to hire a lawyer to get the bank to let her open the box. It had a rubber band in it. Nothing else. To this day when something is particularly useless, pointless, or disappointing my family still jokes, “At least it’s not Grandpa’s rubber band all over again.”
Agree with kpaint, EdM counts! It is definitely ocean inspired.
Haha!I love your story about the Grandpa!❤️❤️
Very glad Grandpa made you smile! He was a real sweetheart. 😀
By the way, Robin…. meant to mention I’m totally jealous of your lake vacation. There is something about lakes I find so soothing and beautiful and refreshing. I love the sound of lake water lapping… Have a wonderful time.
My sister bought a house on a small lake a few years back, and I am very lucky to get to visit her every year!
So sorry to hear that you are dealing with yet more aggro from that one bank. I hope you have a few moments of peace and beauty to make up for that nonsense.
Thanks! My Dad’s broker called and got her private banker to agree to take care of it. A bit of a drive for me but will probably save time in the long run. Kind of her to do that..totally different company.
I’m waiting for Jurassic World to start, so instead of peace and comfort I’ll get loud chomping and screaming. That’ll do. ????????????
SOTD and quite possibly SOTDFTROTW = Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue
It’s a mouthful! I am not particularly fond of aquatic scents but this one I love. Of course, just as soon as I thought I will wear this for the rest of the week, I’m thinking that Jo Malone Wood, Sage & Sea Salt is also appropriate!
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is coming up. Perfume-wise, I am getting Prada Infusion de Mandarine and the Jo Malone gift set. The Carnal Flower travel spray with the red holder set is a fantastic value, IMHO.
You smell great… that one is my favorite of the EdM collection. I could steal a few sprays of the WS&Ss that lives in the youngest Marzipan’s room but I might just stick with Melograno. What gift set are you getting from JM?
It’s called the Classic Layering Set with: WS&SS, Dark Amber & Ginger Lily and Nectarine Blossom & Honey, with matching body creme. I will swap away the body cremes.
ooooo nice!!!!!!
If you’re interested in splitting a bit of the Mandarine, do let me know 🙂
I will let you know. Who needs 100 mLs these days?
Ooh, thanks for the tip – I have a Nordstrom gift card to use!
Have fun shopping!
Funny….the bleue didn’t appeal to me at all. Could be like many other ones in that I change my mind over time.
I sprayed a lot – 8 sprays and it lasted all day without asphyxiating anyone.
You were smart to grab the cute little bottle of Eau des Merveilles Bleue when you did. It’s too bad that those sizes seem to disappear first.
The Hermes boutique SA didn’t even know about that size! Weird! It really is cute!
SOTD – volutes!
Yay!!!!!! Is it five days or longer?
I have a break yesterday with Terra-cotta, but I’m back on track now. About 9 days total.
Yowza!!! 🙂
Good afternoon, members of the fabulous throng!
Orange Sanguine layered with Shalimar Eau Legere.
Layering score: 4 of 5.
A little sweet for me, and the Shalimar has overtaken the OS a bit.
Ooohhhh I bet that’s good! Didn’t you do OS and Assam of India yesterday?
Yes, and it was wonderful, like a whole new fragrance. Meant to be paired, and now I’m having misgivings about wiping out my OS supply since the pairing is so good. ????
YUM!!
I am in Kerosene Walk the Beach. It lacks all of the annoying characteristics of an aquatic (calone!!) making it a very enjoyable floral ocean breeze combo.
That sounds pretty.
I went with Eau du Soir today. I was in the mood to kick it old school with a summer chypre.
Nice !
Robin, enjoy your vacation!
Sotd is Fille en aiguilles.
I think i need to dive into my sample pile to see if I can participate in this weeks community project!
There’s always your friendly local perfume counter, if you have one nearby…
🙂 true!
But that sample pile needs to shrink, I am on a no-sample-buy until I use empty some vials 🙂
Oh darn I meant to say: ‘Until I empty…’
Thank you!
It’s dawning cold and clear today, which is a nice change after days of cold and rain. I think this calls for something celebratory and I will grace the office with a little Amouage Beloved.
Lucky office!
Put on some Vetiver Pour Elle this morning, but it has faded. Have just put on some Jasmine White Moss to meet the rigours of the second meeting of the day. Snack at least have been promised for this one…
Ugh on the meetings. No more for today, I hope?

Reek on, johanob! I really love your enthusiasm! ????????????
I am also on vacation, camping in Gaspé, Québec. No perfume, just Deep Woods Off. See you next Monday in perfume land.
Oh, I did wear Dans Tes Bras Monday for the drive out here. It was very comforting. I plan to wear it a lot more going forward.
Have a great vacation Robin!
Enjoy your camping trip , cazaubon!!!! Wishing you peace love and light xxoo
Enjoy your camping trip!❤️❤️✌????
I hope you have a restful and peaceful camping trip, cazaubon.
Me 2!
Have a great time!
Wow, that looks just gorgeous!
Have a wonderful time.
Hanging out with the “Use It UP!” crowd again today.
SOTD = Dame’s Passionfruit, Orange Blossom & Vetiver, from the sample stash. The sprayer on this is being a little cranky… I got two grudging squirts from it. Maybe the sample wants to be finished too?
Untwist the sprayer and dump it on your body…this is what I do….
Luckily for me, two sprays was enough for today. I’ve been able to “persuade” the sprayer to cooperate the last couple of times I’ve used the sample. I’ve had plenty of practice dealing with hairspray bottles that clog up, so it’s something similar.
I put on a little Puredistance Warszawa today just because it felt like a good thing to do!
That’s one of the best reasons I can think of for wearing a particular scent!
I’m late to the party but am glad Robin is back and also that she (you!) are having a great time at the lake, perhaps with some nice cookouts or even fresh fish? Yum. That’s what I’ll hope for when, I hope, I get to go up to Michigan in late August. Even if it’s too cold for swimming I can hope for some walleye and whitefish, yum yum. Just looking at the water is so peaceful and relaxing, too.
SOTD is Mugler Aura from the green sparkly bottle. I’m enjoying it and feel pretty. Yesterday I went to a nice jewelry store here (most things are totally out of my price range, but all interesting, not standard stuff, real artistry) and bought some very pretty bracelets. They had a trunk show of beaded bracelets done by Huichol women (from western Mexico) with gorgeous glass beads and some gold and silver ones too, in fine fine detail. Now I feel extra pretty! The young woman who helped me there also loves perfume and I took along a bunch of Zoologist samples for her to try. She especially loved Bat and Elephant and they smelled so good on her!
Here’s a similar kind of one (not the store here in Houston, and no affiliation): https://www.thesagelifestyle.com/products/huichol-authentic-artisan-handcrafted-beaded-bracelet-cuff-in-angel-dust
Gorgeous bracelet! I wear 4 to 5 beaded or crystal bracelets on my right wrist every day. Love them.
That bracelet is beautiful! Your comment on walleye really took me back. The hubster took me on a business trip to Minneapolis (it was in January) shortly after we were married, and I remember trying walleye. It’s a very tasty fish.
My aunt lives in Mexico near the Huichol peoples and that’s pretty much all she wears, jewelry-wise. She’s been buying it for decades. How generous of you to share your Zoologists!
Scent twins today!
This particular lake is not really great fishing, but it is perfect for relaxing!
That bracelet is gorgeous.
Not too much on aquatics because they make me sneeze, but I might wear En Passant on Friday. Testing Mugler Aura on one hand today and Jimmy Choo L’Eau on the other.
What do you think of Aura?
Also saw your comment re: cookie dough from Aldi. I wanted to let you know about the Ready to Eat Quinoa Meal. I tried one (Artichoke and Red Pepper) a while back and was bummed that it was a never to be seen again special. I was there yesterday and Li and behold, it was available again or I just happened to glance slightly above eye level and woo hoo. The only thing I would be careful about is that one package is actually 2 servings but yummm!
The opening of Aura is almost too sweet, but I love the way it dries down. I get a lot of almond out of it. And then there’s the vanilla and some smoke and the hint of camphor like in Robin’s review. The bottle is somewhere between tacky and fantastic (tacktastic?). I need to get hold of a sample from Ulta or Dillard’s and really give it a good wear for the husband.
That quinoa does sound good. You never know what you’ll find in Aldi. If you haven’t tried the dark chocolate thingies that are shaped like Pringles, they are to die for!
I’m avoiding wearing Aura because I am splitting the refill bottle I got at a discount. I have yet to get organized but it is too hot to mail perfume.
Let me know when the split is on. I would definitely be interested. Too hot for perfume to sit in my mailbox right now for sure.
And (no) thanks for the Pringles-shaped dark chocolate!
Late to post today but had such a lovely perfume day that I couldn’t just keep it to myself. Came across some Nordie’s samples I’d forgotten about so spent the day in Armani Iris Celedon which is gorgeous beyond belief. Then this evening I’ve used up the last of Encens Satin which is one of the most bee-you-tiful incenses I’ve ever tried. I’m a bit sad that it is gone as it is so pricey that I’ll likely never get it but at least I get to smell it one last time.
Iris celadon is so beautiful!
+1 on the Iris Celadon love train. It was my first purchase at the revamped Saks Beauty on 2. Your Nordstrom still beats it by 100 miles.
I’m wearing a few sprays of Vol de Nuit EDT tonight. Long day for me so I’m enjoying this right now.
Hi Gail! I did see your comment about ANW that you had posted last night. I haven’t seen any episodes since 2017. I have seen some of the women that you mentioned run the courses, though, and they are freaking amazing.
Late to the discussion. Wearing Santal du Pacifique today and I must have nose fatigue because I don’t smell the musk as much. Sprayed a little too much maybe but I was feeling it this morning. Got a few comments from colleagues, positive, but it being brought up meant it’s “noticeable”. I’ll limit to two *little* sprays. Here’s easing into the week well.
Eeeek on backhanded compliments!
