Hey, it's Opposite Day! Our community project for today: wear the opposite of what would be expected. Thanks to Pyramus for the suggestion (and for the helpful examples: La Nuit on a bright sunshiny day, Matin Calin in the afternoon, Voile d’Ete in the depth of winter or Winter Delice in the middle of July, Aromatics In White when you’re dressed all in black).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I decided to do the opposite of my mood, so I went with the calm, cool and collected Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
Reminder: 7/6 will be Frida Kahlo's birthday...do what you like with the theme! (Kevin wrote about a perfume she actually wore in A Celebrity’s Scent: Frida Kahlo & Dana Emir.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Thanks for the comments yesterday.
You’re back! 🙂
*Snoopy does a happy dance*
+1
We missed you dude!
???? ☕️ ????????♂️
This is awesome!
Welcome back!
Bear! ????????????! So glad to see you!
Hope your here for awhile ????
*you are here.
☕☕☕?
Exactly what I was wondering.
Today I am wearing Carlen Perfume’s Butch/Femme. I figured I have moments of being “Butch” and “Femme” so I would be covered no matter which moment I’m having at the moment on Opposite Day.
Nice and I would love to try that perfume!
I’m always willing to share. It is a huge bottle that I got at a great discount.
Great concept! And the notes list sounds perfect too.
Perfect!
I’m in vintage Montana Parfum d’Elle, suitable for Opposite Day because I am not in fact a lady. The scent is amazing, though, no matter who’s wearing it: bright, brittle greenery and pineapple, a bushel of dark wood-hued flowers, and an incomparably beautiful chypre base of oakmoss, vanilla, and tobacco. It’s SO late-eighties, and the bottle is very Serge Mansau, a frosted-glass ellipse that looks like a cell phone from the distant future.
One of my favorites! It sure is an 80’s powerhouse! I have many happy memories of wearing that one. 🙂 Happy friday
Very pretty stuff while being powerful, and somehow also easy to wear.
The first few notes make me think of Lauren. Are they similar?
I couldn’t tell you because I never actually smelled Lauren, at least not long enough to form an opinion about it. (I knew it existed, because that red cube was everywhere, but some instinct told me it wasn’t my thing.) What the opening of Parfum d’Elle smells most like is, oddly, another Montana called Just Me, launched nearly a decade later: it’s as if they found the first part of the recipe and just improvised the rest.
In Cristalle Verte and on my way to a doctors appt
Not participating today, so here is a Haiku for points
NYC streets
Suffocating with Santal 33
Commuting life
I feel like Cristalle Verte could be the opposite of a suffocation of Santal 33!
Truth! I smell it everywhere in NYC
Opposite community project completed
Love Cristalle Verte – have drained 2 large bottles (and I don’t spritz with abandon or wear it every day!!). It is an opposite for today as instead of glorious sunshine upper 20’s everywhere else in UK we have sea fog “haar” over Edinburgh and 13 degrees. Boo.
Its an easy perfume, I love that and the original
Love the Haiku! It’s so true, S33 truly is everywhere in NYC.
Do you know I have yet to try Cristalle Verte? I love green perfumes, I need to give this one a try soon! 🙂
It’s on my FB list
Am on my second FB. The first was one of those rare duty-free purchases (made during a long and stressful layover) that ended up not only being wonderful, but becoming embedded in the wonderful experience that trip became. And writing this has made me realize that I can make Cristalle Eau Verte fit with today’s theme, after all — for me, it will always evoke Rome. And I am most definitely. NOT in Rome today (instead, I am in a city of 13,000 in Western NY).
<3 Its on my FB list!
If I do pull the trigger one day I can send you a decant? Are you in the US?
I don’t find it particularly green, especially in comparison with the pillar. Visually, it strikes me as white; olfactorily I get lots of lemons – more citrus and airy powder than green. YMMV, but it’s good stuff regardless 😉
Ooooh, I like the haiku!
I love that one. You smell great.
Goodbye, detested enemies! A miserable sameness night to none of you.
Today after my shower I put on My Sin After Bath Lotion, and I plan to spend the day practicing all 7 virtues:
Chastity: You must trust me when I say I will achieve this.
Temperance: No dessert after lunch
Charity: Donated to the ACLU
Diligence: This will be the hardest one – I am going to try to get through every item on my to-do list today, even the ones I usually put off. Oh man it’s long.
Patience: I will not complain even once about the bathroom door thing.
Kindness: I will smile at people on the train, even if there is a Twins game.
Humility: I will not talk about all my one-day virtue plan, except of course for posting it publicly here on the internet.
I love this!
Excellent ????????????
Thank you for this. Made my day.
*snort* Maybe I’ll be inspired by you to be a little more vituous today.
annnd I’ve already failed at temperance and humility – someone brought cake and I simultaneously ate it while telling them why I wasn’t supposed to be eating it ????
😀
Your public admission of failure brought you back to success in humility, I think. And did you eat the whole cake? Temperance isn’t necessarily abstinence. Well done, in any case.
Loved this!
Brilliant concept!
So great!
Happy Friday all! Today’s SOTD is Shiseido’s Murasaki (vintage, as you’ve probably guessed). My burgundy bottle dates from the late 1980’s. The Vintage Perfume Vault has a pretty nice review of it.
Transcendent and ethereal – a true love from first spritz when I tried it way back in H.S. in the 1980’s. When I worked at Maas Brothers department store (FL chain now long gone), I used to snag a spritz occasionally on my lunch break.
Top notes: gardenia, galbanum, peach, hyacinth and bergamot;
Middle notes: lily, orris root, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and rose;
Base notes: leather, sandalwood, amber, musk, oakmoss and vetiver.
I only tried that one from a sample. So nice.
Yowza!!!!!
Oh, and I forgot to mention something about wearing something to the opposite.
I wore Murasaki today because my first choice for a SOTD was initially the original Fendi extrait.
I think Angela needs to do a post on YOUR perfume collection 🙂
I am comin’ over for some Cuban coffee and two large cats to sit on my lap 😉
Come on down! Smokey is primed and ready to nap!
The heat index value is going to be over 100 here today, which would normally having me reaching for a citrus or cologne. In the spirit of opposite day, SotD is…Casmir!
My girls and I have been watching Little Women on PBS’ Masterpiece. I would highly recommend it, it’s very well done imo. We watched an episode yesterday afternoon during the heat of the day and I got teary twice! I’ve asked my teenager to start calling me Marmee, lol. She’s not buying it.
I adore Casmir, it is such a perfect cold weather/sweater/date night scent, very cozy and perfect for a sweltering hot day. 🙂
Oh, me too. It’s in my top 5 of all time and honestly back in the day I wore it year round and never thought twice about it.
Same here. I used to never think about seasons in connection to perfume. You smell great!
I never wore it back in the day. I found it after I fell down the rabbit hole, and really enjoy its warm, spicy fruitiness.
Actually spicy sweet scents can really nice in heat, so you smell GREAT!
Casmir is gorgeous! It’s one of the very few things that I have a BUB of.
I liked it a lot also, and especially Emily Watson as Marne, though I really loved the one with Winona Ryder as Jo.
I’ve wanted to watch it, but haven’t started it yet. Glad to hear a good review. One of my favorite books of all one!
I’m grumpy so I put on eau des merveilles body lotion and about 1000 sprays of eau claire. Now I am borne on a cloud of calm freshness.
I got that sale email from STC this morning, and I want to get Amouage Imitation Woman, but I feel silly ordering just one vial of perfume. Can someone suggest something for me to add? I like orange blossoms (in the vein of neroli portofino, not elie saab) and powders of all types, big white florals…
Hmm. Well, STC has that search function where you can look for “powder” and “orange blossom” or “neroli”… Sampler packs, too.
Seconding this. STC does a good job with its sample sets – they have some by note, which you can get to by using one of the links on the left-hand side of the page.
How about…Amouage Fate Woman(powder), Parfum d’Empire Azemour Les Orangers, Nicolai Cap Neroli…..I have been reading the new Guide and my to try list has just exploded over the last 24 hours. Check it out for good ideas.????
Thanks! Yes I forgot about Cap Neroli, I’ve been wanting to try that. I’ll need to pick up the new guide as well.
Enabler pins to The Guide. Two samples of Arielle Shoshana and a 30 ml of Cap Neroli. Boom! Done.
Ha ha. Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one.
I’m off to get my toes done and then plan to stop into Lush (which is conveniently located right next door) to purchase the bottle of What Would Love Do? I’ve been in the store twice over the past few weeks spritzing myself with. I now feel justified in my purchase given it’s 4 star rating. It’s so silly.???? I would be willing to bet cold, hard cash that certain fragrances will see an increase in sales simply because of their rating in The Guide. ie: Twilly and it’s 5 stars.
Which makes Twilly the one I disagree with them most about… well that and Elephant. So far. But the writing is so good I almost don’t care what the ratings are. What a joy to read such literate perfume in-jokes (Daisy Blush 2016!)
What Would Love Do? is gorgeous. It kicks the ass of very many more expensive perfumes and has rekindled my love of lavender. I am going to spring for the new edition of the Guide tonight hopefully if it is available in the UK.
Haven’t got that far in the new guide yet, but I am happy to hear that they are getting more LT&TS love for their recent work. (And that Neanderthal’s Dark and Light also got recognised.)
I love “What would love do?” though the first time I smelled it I burst into tears at the Gorilla installation, which was a tad embarrassing. It reminded me so very much of my father. I couldn’t wear it for months, just take tiny sniffs at it. But now, now I can wear it with joy.
Try out Hiram Green’s Dilettante and Moon Bloom.
I second Annie’s suggestion of Dilettante, and would like to add Bois Blonds by Atelier Cologne. I’ve also heard great things about Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir, but haven’t tried it yet myself.
I’ve been trying to avoid that website, I want to enjoy decants and samples I already own. But the temptation is real!
Have your tried Narciso Rodriguez Poudree (beige cube)?
For orange blossom/neroli, Lorenzo Villoresi Dilmun, Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir, and possibly two I haven’t tried, as my tastes lean more in the orange blossom direction: Penhaligon’s Castile (review at the Black Narcissus) and Annick Goutal Neroli (review at I Scent You a Day). For powder: Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate, truly weird, but really nice. It starts off very green and earthy, and over the course of a few hours, gets more and more sweet and powdery.
SOTD is Guerlain L’Heure Bleue (vintage EDC from a decant), which means Twilight. I sprayed it in the morning and now it’s afternoon, while the backstory and name suggest wearing it in the evening.
Perfect. Now you need Kurkdjian Petit Matin tonight 🙂
Yeah, when I was putting it on, I thought it would fit the CP only till evening. The only morning-themed scent I have is Seville a l’Aube. But to tell you the truth I slept through the evening, so I did not have the chance to change the scent.
Hey, sleep is more important than perfume anyway!
Happy Friday everyone!
We are expecting a heat wave starting today that will last many days.
Wearing Byredo Gypsy Water, pretty and perfect for the weather. I sprayed the whole 3ml on me. One single use. I am opposite to Jalapeno who has taken forever to finish her sample. ????
Stay cool! the mini marzipans are going into the city on Sunday when it is expected to hit 98 degrees….God bless ’em…I will be home in the shade-LOL!
and yay to finishing another large sample!
Oh my! Good luck to the mini marzipans. The heat index will be in the 100’s, but I am sure they will enjoy the day. After running some errands tomorrow morning I am also planning to be inside for the rest of the weekend. You too take care and stay cool!
I think their intent is Koreatown for food and some shopping and possibly just hanging out in Bryant Park…I told them they better drink lots of water 🙂
Great plan! I have not been in the Koreatown area for a while, but the food is really good.
Good food and great prices !!!!
And you know I was thinking back when I was their age Bryant Park was the last place we would ever think of going…back then it was not safe…lots of drugs and what nots going down…it has become so beautiful now…the city has really gentrified in certain areas.
LOL! ???????? Guilty as charged, for being a scented slowpoke! I’m glad that Gypsy Water worked out for your SOTD.
LOL! My recognition to you! I was hoping that you had not finished your sample today! ????????????!
You smell super good!
Thanks!
I am joining the ranks of the not-well-rested today – woke up at 3:30 and never really got back to sleep – and decided that De Profundis must be the opposite of SOMEthing, so that’s my choice for today’s theme … mostly because I just wanted to wear it and I’m cranky and have a headache and I just wanted to. Okay? 😉
*nods sympathetically* *sends a virtual coffee and yogurt*
Awww, thank you! That helps. 🙂
Perfect reasoning. And do hope the day gets better.
It has, thank you! I had to go give some negative news to one of the scarier executives here, and I guess it went well – he didn’t yell at me at all. I give all the credit to De Profundis – he was probably half hypnotized by it and forgot to be mad. 🙂
Yay for not getting yelled at!
I reach for incense when I’m in a cruddy mood, too.
Hope it helps you wallow productively.
“Wallowing” is EXACTLY what I’m doing, and I’m feeling better now – pretty sure De Profundis is at least partially responsible, along with NSTers’ supportiveness. And Ede’s coffee and yogurt. 🙂
I hope that you get a decent night’s sleep tonight, SheriG! 3:30 is too early for anything…
“I just wanted to” is, I think, the very best reason to wear any perfume at all.
Hope your headache is better.
It’s supposed to be super hot and humid here through the weekend and into Monday, so in contrast to the weather, I am wearing the liquid air-conditioning of Silences pdt.
I mean, seriously, I’m NOT wearing an oriental in this humoggity. No way.
In other news, the 2018 Perfumes: The Guide dropped for Kindle yesterday, and I snatched it right up. Such a fun read! All new material; focuses on niche and indie but still leaves out some brands I had thought might be included (Hiram Green, for example). As usual, I totally disagree on several ratings, and so many of those 5-stars are smoky woody things that I might appreciate but never actually wear… but I repeat, a fun read and worth the $10 IMO.
Totally agree with you on the new guide. It looks like my collection averages about 2 stars 🙂 – and so many great brands were left out. Aventus on the other hand got 4 stars!!!
Do you know if the 2018 edition is only being released digitally?
Either way I think I will need a copy. I return to my copy of the earlier edition so frequently!
Turin’s Twitter said the paperback will be released in a few days. I’m sure I’ll end up with both.
Thanks!
Yeah, I bet I’ll pick up the paperback too. I was too impatient to wait for it.
Ahhh new guide!! Where can I download it, do you know??
Never mind, found it! In my excitement I momentarily forgot how to use the Internet I guess, lol
Yes, my beloved MFK Lumière Noire Femme only rated 2 stars! But the reviews are fun and informative and everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, of course.
And Mals I noticed Twilly got 5 stars! I’ll certainly try that sample you so kindly passed on to me with an open mind.
Just because *I* didn’t like Twilly doesn’t mean it’s bad!
I was reading that review of Lumiere Noire and thinking, “But which one is being reviewed here? there’s only one, and it doesn’t say Homme or Femme…” TS says, “If you would buy this instead of, say, Antaeus, I don’t think I can help you.” So maybe it was the Homme version.
Oh good point! I did like the femme version more than the homme.
Oh, I wonder what went down with Hiram Green… LT had not so good things to say about him on his short-lived blog. I have a guess as to why his line didn’t appear.
Rather surprising, I’ve smelled the Hiram Greens and think they’re very well done.
He admired the perfumes, but took issue with his religious adherence to using only naturals.
I myself am gaga for Arbole Arbole. It might have been my best perfume discovery this year.
And I seem to recall that in the past, LT & TS have declined to include perfumes when the maker wouldn’t send samples, so maybe that’s what happened here? Anyone feel free to fact check me on this.
That sounds like a reasonable assumption: HG didn’t send samples (possibly due to previous differences of opinion), so no samples were reviewed.
Perhaps this had something to do with it?
https://perfumesilove.com/2016/07/17/eu-natural/
That is probably what I had in mind, and also this: https://perfumesilove.com/2016/07/16/hiram-green/
which clarifies that he actually DID send samples, and the reviews were rather glowing.
So, hmmmm
Gossip says that HG refused to send samples, but with decant sites so prominent, I’m not certain how true that can be.
HG may have been offended by the earlier review and thus refused…? LT may also have taken him to task for pricing, but I’m not 100% sure about that. Again, anyone feel free to fact check me here.
https://perfumesilove.com/2016/07/17/eu-natural/
Someone may have objected to being called a cretinous Luddite. But who knows?
And may also have objected to this: “in order to appease the most moronic kind of superstition, you pay 10-100 times over the odds for the same molecule at the same degree of purity simply because it is made by an enzyme rather than a nonenzymatic organic reaction.”
For Opposite Day, I’m in classic Old Spice – a cologne often associated with fatherly (or grandfatherly) men. I, on the other hand, am a young woman.
You smell great.
mmmmm…LOVE Old Spice…on everyone…female or male or young or old….you smell terrific!
Nice.
That’s a great one.
I “borrowed” 5 mls of 20+ years old Old Spice from my dad a few weeks ago. Those splash bottles were made for decanting.
Shhh, he’ll never notice. 😀
Ooh, I bet the vintage is just lovely
If it’s 20 years old, he might not notice if you decanted the entire bottle 😉
THAT is the scent of my father while I was growing up. Boy do I wish I’d stolen one years ago to take out and sniff from time to time!
Yeah, my dad wore it too.
He’s still around, but hasn’t worn any fragrance in a good couple of decades. Says he can’t be bothered.
YOu need to hook him up with my dad..he even scents his underwear and socks 🙂
Excellent!
Good one!
I’m wearing the trashy, cheerful Hot Couture on a grey and moody day.
Perfect!
Love it!
Wearing Guerlain Shanghai since the time in Shanghai is exactly opposite the time in Boston
Great!
Perfect!
Nice interpretation!
Well done.
Nicely done! ????????
????????
Good Morning!
1) I am not doing opposite day; I am wearing what needs to be worn today, which is Karma body cream, Breath of God perfume and Uma Pure Bliss oil on pulse points. I hope I smell like blessings and love to others.
2) I am in early than usual- month end reports (which I finished at 8 PM last night) need to be submitted for the masters back East, plus various month end meetings. Argh, adulting is the SUCK.
Oh I want to follow you around all day breathing deeply. Also, are you sure your scents are not the opposite of month-end reports?
1) Hee!
2) Hey, that is a VERY good point!
It is just after 9am in East Texas and the temperature is 85 degrees. I am wearing Demeter Snow.
I grabbed the new Perfume the Guide, and spent last night reading the reviews. I kept writing down things that I want to try, but after the filling the third page in my notebook, I gave up. Turin has not lost his snark. I’m going to have to buy the print book so that I can mark it up.
It’s overwhelming! I find myself using the highlighter in my Kindle app – all four colors to rank “Must try this second” down through “maybe someday try”. Ha!
what are some of the must tries? I doubt I will ever read that book…
Papillon Dryad is one for me so far
Oh it is a super good one!
I’m holding out for the paperback. Love the Turin snark!
Just bought the kindle version. Couldn’t resist. Will certainly get the hard copy when it’s available!
NU (as promised and now my bottle is done! on to the next bottle which will be Jardin Clos for the entire month of July…that is the game plan…I have sampled all my samples and passed them on to the mini marzipans…they will test, keep what they like and probably return the ones they don’t…so in the meantime I am going to work on wearing and thoroughly enjoying the bottles no one else wants that I love)
and I am NOT purchasing or reading the NEW Perfume the Guide because I am actively avoiding creating any lemmings 🙂
You are wiser than I. He did review a couple of the St. Clair scents that you might enjoy reading though…just sayin’.????
Lalalalala…not listening 😉
and my mother’s day bottle of First Cut was confiscated by Mr. CM8…I am OK with that cause it smells so much better on him!
The Library will have copies PLUS many libraries now have e-books, so you can download the app (usually Libby) and then borrow the e book. It’s brilliant for books like this AND you can save a ton.
Ede you are not helping-LOL!!! my fear is I will read and then create a massive list 🙂 Right now I have NO list…the current goal for me is to enjoy what is mine at the moment 😉
Aha! So sorry! 🙂
No worries Ede…I was just playing with you 😉
My strategy exactly! Waiting til the paperback appears at a library near me, then snatching it up.
You said it, sister! Must look away! The Guide is perfumed catnip. I imagine the decanting and sampling business has happy days ahead.
Ha ha! yeah, TPC and STC will be doing well 🙂
There is a NEW Perfume the Guide?! You did just create a lemming. My FOMO is mostly under control these days, but this kind of thing makes me think, why am I wasting my time doing things other than reading perfume blogs?
And Robin, you smell fantastic…hope the fragrance improves your mood !
It is indeed helping!
I will not buy or read the Guide either. It would be a disaster for me!. How big are your bottles that you finish them so fast. Do you also overspray? I need to find a good technique to finish some of my bottles that are less than half. My only problem is getting committed to a perfume for many days in a row and then I feel bad that I am going to miss that perfume. Whatever is finished will not get replaced for sure!
We are on the same mission….avoid temptation!
My skin EATS perfume….so yes, I really do overspray…not only on skin but I also do the spray the air walk through it so it gets on my clothes….and I also re-apply several times a day….the NU was not full…it was gifted to me by an extraordinarily generous perfumista friend who sent me several of her neglected bottles…turns out I (or one of the Marzipans) loved them all…the Jardin Clos is maybe 2/3 full so I will probably finish it before summer is over. I have never felt bad about finishing anything. IN my 47 years of perfume wearing I always had a collection of 8 bottles and when one was finished it got replaced by something new on the list….there were maybe 10 or so scents that I had bought more than once but other than that…next!!!! Otherwise I would have a collection of close to 500 bottles if I never finished anything.
I definitely need to spray more on clothes. I usually do not reapply when I am at work. We have enough with our boss suffocating us with her overspraying.
Ha! I must be like your boss-LOL! Although honestly no one has complained about it being too much in my office…in fact, when most folks enter they say “ooo it smells good in here”….I have made several folks decants of various things because of their compliments…..
Ha! I am pretty sure you don’t overwhelm anybody. My boss finished a full bottle of Profumum Acqua di Sale, 100ml in 3 months. She bathed in it. She has not worn any perfumes in after, thanks God!
Wow!!! But I wonder now why she isn’t wearing perfume to work anymore? do you think someone said something to her?
No idea. People usually don’t complain about perfumes at work. However, in her case was extreme….
A too-large bottle is great to use in the bath, where you need 10-20 sprays to make a difference! It’s extravagant but no less extravagant than letting perfume languish unused in a closet.
Will also add that they can be used to scent oils and lotions. It’s also a great way to use up samples and decants.
Thanks for reminding me about the bath technique, I am going to try it!
Agree. I will try them in the shower also. I really need to reduce the amount of perfumes I have.
Your dedication is inspiring me to try the same – I have 1/4 of a bottle of Ivoire so perhaps I can finish it this summer. My reason is that I have quite a few back-up bottles and that makes me feel like there is Too Much. (Yes, Ivoire is one of those bottles…)
YOU CAN DO IT!! Especially if you have a back up of Ivoire.
Yay!! So happy to hear that Nu has had a satisfying end. On to Jardin Clos!
🙂 Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) is getting good use and is getting lots of love……even some of the ones I was saving have found their way into mini marzipans’ rooms -LOL!)
Nu was extraordinarily satisfying….
RESPECT! on finishing another bottle.
you are funny 🙂
I think before summer is out I might just finish two or three more!
Considering that I have not finished a bottle of perfume in this decade, I admire people who can!
I am not really participating in today’s theme – wearing Hiram Green Dilettante again because I am enjoying it so much!
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell like happiness!
A perfect reason to wear it. 🙂
Not participating today either. Wearing Carnal Flower hair mist
I thought about that too this morning, but decided to participate in the end!
Pretty!
Ooh, nice!
It’s ridiculously hot and humid here; normally I’d be all over a light cologne style confection. So instead, for opposite day, I’m wearing Angel. Just one spritz, but still.
Hope it works like spicy food on a hot day…
I can see how that would work. I bought a bottle of Les Senteurs Vanille Chocolate – which is kind of an Angel Lite – to wear in summer. I’ll have to try out the real deal sometime.
I think you smell great!
Very brave.
I am wearing Carner’s Cuirs, as it’s probably my most dudely scent, yet am not a dude myself.
I love Cuirs. You smell great!
For opposite day, I’m in Bronze Goddess- I’m actually way more of a pale witch I’d say.
Funny story about my mom/anesthesia yesterday. When she started waking up I think she heard the (rather good looking) anesthesiologist talking and thought it was my fiance. She mumbled something and then said, “oh, I thought Jason was here.” I told her he wasn’t, it was just me, then she proceeded to tell the doctor, “Kelly isn’t married, but she’s engaged. If she weren’t, she could go out with you!” I practically screamed, “mother!!” while the doc just laughed. Then she asked him, “Are YOU married?” to which he replied, “yes, ma’am, I’ve been married for 20+ years” and my mom just said, “Oh well. I like Jason anyway.” I can’t stop laughing about it. 😆
Hey, Mom is always looking out for you!! 🙂
Go, Mom!
LOL typical Mom is typical! 😀
OH my !
That is hysterical! your mother rocks though!
.. Look at her in the hospital and her main concern was to hook you up with a hottie! She gets points in my book…I like the way she thinks!
Your not married yet..lol lol :0) 😉 🙂 😉
I’ve never been under anaesthesia and that’s one of my fears about it – saying things I can never take back, lol 😉
Classic!
Haha!I love the antics of some patients right before they go under! We’ve had many laughs in theater.
You smell wonderful Kelly.A firm favorite of mine.
My opposite is one I rarely wear, even though I think it’s beautiful: 31 Rue Cambon. To me, it says “ladies who lunch” and even though I’d like to be well-put-together and know how to accessorize, I’m far more likely to be found in old jeans and and old t-shirt gardening or volunteering at the animal shelter. So, it’s lovely, but definitely my opposite.
This is why I rarely wear 31 RC… I am so not an elegant lady who lunches. But you smell beautiful.
Comme des Garcons – Ouarzazate (which literally translates as ‘the Desert Fire’ ) in a humid day, in the far less exotic Montreal.
Had a sample, not really a fan of it , the musk or spices tickle my nose – Kyoto is still my favorite from the series.
I love all of the CdG incense series. 🙂 Big time incense fiend.
Same here, cazaubon – love incense, and love CdG, particularly Jaisalmer. Today, though, I’m in Palisander, which is from the Red series.
That one is my favorite, though it doesn’t get much love. However, I’ve had two bottles jam up on me and stop spraying, so I won’t buy it any more.
I have ( and love) Carnation from the Red series. Both the incense and the reds are such great lines.
Same!
I’m doing weather opposites again and am in Miller Harris La Pluie (the rain) because there’s no rain in the forecast today. Plus this is an underrated, classy perfume that is office appropriate when sprayed judiciously. It would fit in well with the Chanel lineup, and reminds me most of 31RC in its opening.
really..I love 31RC I must try this one!
I find 31RC a bit sharp and strong in the opening, and La Pluie makes me think of a smoothed out, softer take on it. The ylang is the note that stands out most to me.
If I end up getting a bottle, I’ll send you some!
That’s one I’ve always been curious about – perhaps just because of the name ☔
Me too. La Pluie just sounds appealing.
I’m wearing something from an unlabeled sample.
Contrary to my expectations, serendipity happened, and I really like the scent.
Happy (humid) Friday!
Perfume life without fear. I like that. 🙂
Congrats on winning at perfume sample roulette!
The problem then is, what if you really like it?
I’m in Dame Sky Father – “for a man, mostly”. Not that I usually pay any attention to gender categories of perfume, but it does give me an opposite.
Nice! I thought about wearing Chanel Pour Monsieur today but could not find a sample.
I’m curious about Sky Father. What’s it like?
Citrusy, spicy, sandalwood and a bit of vanilla in the dry down. We got in the car today right after I sprayed and my son said “why do I smell cinnamon?”
Sounds like your son has a good nose.
SotD = Chanel No. 5 edp
Opposite: it’s morning and I usually wear it in the evening after a shower.
Unexpected: two sprays is my usual limit, today I did two on the arms plus a 4-spritz cloud walk through.
Wearing jeans and t-shirt I’m going out to the garden to trim back the rampant tomato vines then get the garage sorted.
Thanks to cm8 for the encouragement, and to Pyramus for a mind-bending, entertaining community project.
Ahh, good one. The only No 5 I wear regularly during the day is the edt. A 4-spritz cloud walk through sounds lovely.
Wearing more today was nice. I should make a point to remember that No. 5 needs 5+ spritzes.
Six sprays = no fear! All thumbs up!
😀 Perfuming this place up really good today.
Yay!!! You smell fantastic!!! no 5 is all day any day in my book 🙂
thanks, cm8, and grateful you set the spritzing bar high. 😉
Good one!
😀
SOTD = Prada Purple Rain
✅ Today is sunny and not a drop of rain in sight. It is quite humid though.
✅ I wore L’Occitaine Immortelle de Corse yesterday.
Friday Funny – Faux Pas or not? You decide!
Two couples in their 80s were having dinner. One couple had been married for almost 60 years whereas the other had several divorces before meeting. In the course of lighthearted conversation, the long-married wife said “My husband thinks I don’t look a day over 55!” The other woman then said “He must be blind!” Do you think these couples ever got together again? (Note: I got the approximate scenario from a column in the NYTimes)
From a former co-worker (same manager before I moved to a different group):
In a staff meeting, the manager mentioned that several people whom she named are being reassigned to a new VERY HIGH PROFILE VERY BIG PROJECT and went on and on singing praises of these colleagues. The ones not assigned will be maintaining BAU. In closing that segment of the staff meeting, she said “Only the best and brightest were assigned to VERY BIG PROJECT.” Then the room went silent. Upon seeing the reaction, she tried to make light of and cover up what she said. Had I been in that room, I probably would have said in a light-hearted tone “Wow, that made me feel like chopped liver!” Do you think she really meant the “best and brightest comment”?
I think she certainly did, without somehow realizing what an insult it was to everyone else.
I actually now have an even lower opinion of her than I had previously.
Agreed
Oh good grief. So many different ways to approach that announcement. This was not one of them.
She has foot in mouth disease.
You know, both of those people missed a great opportunity to keep their mouths shut. (Smacks forehead)
People should think first before they speak.
Facepalms ???????????????? for both of them.
Make that a double face palm!
Yep, I think that manager did. And I also think that she did not stop to consider the implications of that statement. Major insert foot in mouth moment there.
Agreed!
Une Rose Chyprée which evokes autumn to me, and summer has just started here. Not quite opposites, but as near as I could make it. I struggled with this one but it was fun to try and come up with something and read about everyone’s efforts.
Tea was MF Montagne de Jade, but I’m just about to switch to a nice jasmine tea.
You smell beautiful.
My daughter’s preschool graduation is this morning…kindergarten starts in August…where does the time go?
Not sure what perfume I’ll be in…will report back later.
Happy Friday, fragrant friends!
Congrats!!! They grow so fast. The next thing you know they are raiding your perfume cabinet
LOL!
BHA haha!
Insolence today. Will try my best to be the opposite. Need to be somewhat diligent today in packing for travel to CA tomorrow. (Here’s hoping for TSA pre-clear).
I thought that was only available for pay anymore? Love Insolence – and you are surely quite the opposite of insolent 😉
Happy travels! You must really rack up the FF miles!
Oddly enough I’ve often gotten pre-clear for my flights out of JFK. Only once did I have to go to the regular line – and it was hard, mostly because of the clueless people. I rarely get it on the return from SFO, but I did last time. I dont care on that flight because the time I usually fly is a quiet time, so I’ve found security to be quick.
I’ve sent off for a certified birth certificate…once that arrives, I’m going to pay.
I got pre-clear for free for years, then once they started charging for it, no mas 🙁
Insolence! 😀 That’s a winner for opposite day and everyday.
I’m quite happy I finally pulled the trigger on this one.
I bought a bottle this spring and wondered what took me so long to try it in the first place! Love love love!
Yummy!!Love insolence!
Have a safe and easy trip! ✈
Edt or edp? And which do you prefer?
I have the EdT. It’s sharper than the EdP, which my sister has. EdP is deeper, more lush. I like them both, but I was drawn more to the EdT.
I’m wearing Bobbi Brown Beach, because that’s not where I am.
And you smell fabulous!!
Ha, good one!
I love Beach. You smell fab.
SOTD is Aedes Signature, because I wanted to know how it plays in warm weather (and I’m going out to pick berries this morning, so rhubarb + berries was too good to pass up).
But pretend I’m in Nuit de Noel.
Oh, you smell great!
Thanks!
I’m a lucky gal today, in Climat, many thanks to our hajusuuri. I’m participating in the CP, as I would usually wear something light and citrusy….and Climat is not light or citrusy!
I’m getting rosemary and some powder, but also something green, mossy and maybe some civet also. I’m only in a couple of dabs, but if this was sprayed, I have a feeling it would show more florals. Very old school, very rich and very nice. 🙂
Nice choice. Wish I still had some
Similar to madtowngirl, I am wearing a weather-inappropriate gourmand on this scorching humid day, TF Vanille Fatale. Happy to be under the AC.
How do you like it?
Wondering the same thing, I’ve heard conflicting opinions.
I’m sure that I am not alone but I chose to go unscented for this week’s cp. It’s a little uncomfortable but I did cheat a little by using my warm sand scented soap and lotion. It’s a beachy-soapy scent but not coconutty. One of my summer favs.
Brave!! 😀
That soap sounds wonderful. Don’t tell me, though…I’m a sucker for soaps and I have enough for a couple years….
So I won’t tell you that Warm Sand soap is by Shore Soap Company out of Newport, RI. I also refuse to mention that they have a website. No affiliation, just a fan.
Their products are really nice quality.
Holy cow! That’s gutsy.
Dang, I’m impressed. That’s cp commitment for sure.
Agree with lillyjo! That’s commitment…and clever as well!
PSA: Ebay has 15% off just today. Coupon code: PERFECTDAY.
Thank you!
I decided that the opposite of New Zealand must be Zealand…which means Denmark…so I am imagining the Tivoli Gardens and hoping that the lime trees are in full blossom..(JM lime Blossom) because here that would be the smell of Christmas and the sound of blackbirds singing.
It’s the midwinter carnival here tonight with a big paper lantern parade .
I saw a good documentary last night about the dancers from Madonna’s Truth or Dare / In bed with Madonna . Their lives 25 years on.
Sending happiness your way, everyone!
A paper lantern parade sounds delightful!
I watched that documentary as well. Sad, but life goes on, one supposes.
Or the Netherlands! It’s spelled Zeeland in Dutch. It’s motto is luctor et emergo, as a lot of it is below sea level and had been flooded numerous times over the centuries.
I didn’t have any good ideas for the theme today, so I just picked a sample that caught my eye this morning on top of a small box of samples and decants on a shelf in my closet. It is Jo Malone Wild Bluebell. I have no idea where/when I got it. I don’t generally consider myself a Jo Malone fan, but really this isn’t bad. It’s a bit cucumbery at first, but not in a bad way, but it didn’t go all dryer sheet like I was afraid it might.
i haven’t met a jO Malone I don’t like so in my book you smell very pretty 🙂
I randomly picked a sample out of my box for my evening scent. It’s fun to do that sometimes. 🙂
Not participating intentionally (I could probably come up with something if I put my mind to it) in No 19 edc. I bought a mini of it just a few years ago and drained the last of it this afternoon when I reapplied. I do a pretty good job of draining samples and decants (by not letting them stock up in the first place) but I honestly can’t remember when I’ve finished a mini.
Oh, wait – what am I thinking? I bought quite a few Chanel exclusifs minis and finished a Beige edt in May. Another one, too, in the last year – I remember feeling bad about tossing the cute little bottle.
So no opposite-ing for me today, I guess. But I smell really good 🙂
You DO smell really good!
Thank you!
It’s always a good day for No. 19 lol
L’Occitane Ambre&Santal. Not participating in other words,it was a supercold day and I needed a warm enveloping embrace of a fragrance. This is el cheapo, and sooo good.Comfort scent.
I started to write a pretty vicious comment on the Ariana Grande Cloud thread, which I decided to just rather delete.Doing the opposite of what I would usually do,so there.Kinda participating with a non-comment.Lol!
Happy Friday!
Bear!!I miss you buddy!????❤️
LOL — like the idea of participating by not commenting, but also, just go leave the comment tomorrow!
Ha! Yes!
Agree with Robin. Please do share tomorrow haha!
Looking forward to reading your “vicious comment”!
Looking forward to reading your “vicious comment”!
Song of the day lyrics:
“I’m Mr. Green Christmas,
I’m Mr. Sun,
I’m Mr. Heat Blister,
I’m Mr. hundred and one” ????
It’s not Christmas yet… a little less than 6 months away. So, that’s Opposite Day #1.
SOTD = Amouage Lyric Man, from the sample stash. #2, I’m not a guy; #3, this men’s version of the scent packs a lot less punch than the women’s version does; and #4, this smells “red” to me, and I am wearing all blue today.
You are after my heart with those lyrics! I sing mr. Snowmiser every winter! Besides Jessica (Mrs Clause) and Herbie the dentist, my favorite characters of that genre. You totally rock!
Those song lyrics popped into my head earlier this afternoon. Mr. hundred and one is in the house!
You win.????
Hehehe! Thank you!
For today’s project I’m in Guerlain L’Heure Bleue. I sprayed it on well away from the blue hour this morning, and this toasty, searingly-bright summer weather is most definitely the opposite of the kind with which one would expect to pair it.
Enjoy your (Fri)day, and have a great weekend, all!!
It really is opposite…it is too hot for there to be a blue hour at all, all day.
Happy Friday everyone! Not sure if I’m participating either. I’m wearing Miss Dior (some vintage stash from a pour bottle). I couldn’t decide this morning, so as my hubby said ‘let’s go to Costco’, the Miss Dior was at-hand so it was the obvious choice
I may be participating, however, because I’m so not “Miss Dior” material today walking around Costco picking up groceries.
I think that reasoning works fine!
Ok, very late today. It’s 95 degrees today with heat index of 107 expected tomorrow. I’m working and the air conditioning is broken. Sotd was No. 5 L’eau. Opposite because it was not marketed towards my age group, but I do love it regardless. Unfortunately, it hasn’t held up well in the heat, but I’m about to reaply ???? stay cool everyone!
Sounds like the Heat Mizer is running amok in your area, laughing like a maniac and melting stuff! ????
Melting the make up right off my face! NOT a good look for me.
Oh no!!! 🙁
Probably just brought out your natural beauty.
I love L’eau. You smell great.
Late today, bizzy Friday and glad the weekend is here. For the CP I wore PdE Le Cri de la Lumiere. Cri means “outcry” or a scream? This perfume is such a whisper on me that I had a hard time appreciating it from a little dabber, so I did the full on vial dump and I actually really like it! Ruh, roh!
I haven’t tried it yet and had decided not to since I’ve read conflicting comments. Dang!
Not too late! I can actually still smell it nose to wrist. I like low projection, so it works for me, but being able to spray with abandon would probably help.
Le Cri de la Lumiere was on the top of my full bottle to buy list for a while. Not anymore. The sillage and longevity made me change my mind. I will be happy with a decant, but it is not a priority.
Well, that’s better.
I’m wearing Keiko Mecheri Les Nuits D’Izu from a sample. It means the Japanese Riviera, I understand, whereas I’m in the swampy hot Texas Gulf Coast. It’s a nice scent but not very strong. Some pleasant Yuzu and a lot of oak moss.
It is 98 degrees where I am, so instead of wearing one of my hot weather favorites, I am in Sage Onyx, which I usually wear in cold weather. It’s light enough, though, that I won’t suffocate when I go outside.
It’s hot here too. I am finding out that some I wouldn’t have worn in the South’s heat and humidity I actually like in the dry heat out here. So at least there’s that lol. I’m trying to look at the heat as an experiment ha!
Are you wearing the oil or the edt? I love the edt in the summer—it smells pleasantly salty and beachy to me.
I’m on my way home from a Lebanese restaurant in the City. While I’m food adventurous, there are certain foods I dislike (and will not eat) or to which I’m allergic. To name a few: lamb, feta cheese and eggplant. Anyway, 3 cocktails (!) and a full belly later (the server was very patient and answered my questions and no, the entree that featured eggplant 2 ways cannot be customized by substituting some other vegetable in place of eggplant), I’m a happy camper! The restaurant is called ilili and it is on 5th and 26th (or thereabouts). Surprisingly, there were families with kids! Highly recommended. P.S. Were it not for Happy Hour, our bill would have been about 15-20% higher.
I’m glad to hear you were able to enjoy the lebanese food. I’m half lebanese and it is my favorite food. Most of the lamb dishes are easily substituted with beef. Unfortunately, I did not inherit the good cook gene from either side of my family. Also, just wanted to double check that you got my email yesterday? My phone showed it was sent, but then changed it’s mind.
Mmm I love Lebanese food. And yay for three cocktails!
ooo thank you for that! I am writing it down for future reference. The mini marzipans will be in the city on sunday at Koreatown but I see that your restaurant is not much further from there 🙂 We are always on the lookout for ethnically diverse foods.
It’s Opposite Day, so I am actually posting, and it’s even still Friday here. Normally I will give way too much thought during the week to my CP choice, and then either forget to actually wear it, or forget to post. So today I grabbed an untested sample at random and wore it, after a brief dab on the wrist just to be sure it wasn’t chemical soup to me. So I’m wearing La Via del Profumo Tabac, which has the added bonus of being a little inappropriate for the slightly sweaty weather earlier today. It reads too masculine for my taste, although I’d like to smell it on a man. (My gentleman friend likes to smell perfume on me, but has no interest in wearing it himself. Luckily I like the way he smells without it.) I was surprised to read the notes (per the website: “the spicy and resinous essences traditionally used to scent pipe tobacco…. Vanilla, Cistus, Tonka etc.“) because I didn’t get the vanilla, or tonka bean, or any hint of sweetness. Just a robust, unsweet tobacco, which got very quiet after a couple of hours, but is still there if I put my nose to my arm.
I tried a spritz of Maurer and Wirtz Tabac Original in a little European toiletries shop at the charmingly kitschy Alpine Village a while back, and while the initial blast was much too barbershop for me, the drydown was very nice—sweet tobacco, but not too sweet, and persistent but not overbearing. I may need to invest in a bottle if I go back. It didn’t have the natural-smelling richness of the LVdP Tabac, but it’s more to my taste, and the price is extremely reasonable.
My posting may be erratic, but I always try to at least read the Friday SOTD posts, and occasionally participate even when I don’t post. I’ve been dealing with a minor but exhausting health issue, and keep falling asleep when I sit down to read. In the future, maybe I’ll post a day or two late even if nobody’s reading by then. I was really pleased with my choice for Star Wars Day, and then realized on the Sunday after that I hadn’t shared it: Reem Acra, clearly the name of a Star Wars character. Wedge Antilles, Mace Windu, Reem Acra….
I am reading 🙂
and now you have made me want to sample Tabac Original.
Reem Acra. Excellent.
