Argh, it's Monday again. It's also International Picnic Day, International Sushi Day, Autistic Pride Day and Paul McCartney's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Etat Libre d’Orange You or Someone Like You.
Reminder: on 6/22 we're doing the Picture challenge, edition 3. Wear a perfume that matches the picture, which is David Hockney's Beverly Hills Housewife, from 1966. You can read more about the painting here and here.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

matcha latte
when the kids nap I will be watching more world cup. This is the only time I watch sports on TV. Normally we don’t have TV, I make Mr. L buy a subscription just for this!
Enjoy your World Cup viewing!
I will ! The games are good and some of the players are ????????????
Agreed on both points!!
⚽️❤️
So I’m a huge sports fan but have never really gotten into soccer because I’m a typical American BUT I’ve been watching several of the matches this weekend and told my sister, “the fact that some of these players are super hot make this an easy sport to watch!” 😉
KellyC, not sure what you type is but you should check out the goalie for the Swiss Team.
https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/74379831325260767/?autologin=true
no affiliation (only in my dreams)
Yep, he’s definitely my type LOL!
I checked out that Swiss goalie and laughed out loud. The people around me at the coffee shop think I am odd. I just became a fan of that team…
I recently got a matcha shaker to make iced matcha lattes. Addictive!
What is a matcha shaker?
Going over to google
Look at the David’s Tea website
ok..going to look
Which team is “yours”? (I hope that’s not a political question). My neighbours are all flying their countries-of-origin flags right now, and it makes me wish I had something more than 6 generations of Canadians in my pedigree.
I love Canadians, I am married to one.
Normally I would cheer for Italy, but since they are out I will cheer for Spain ????????
What about you?
My husband is Japanese, so I go with them for a while, one of my sons-in-law is Dutch, so sometimes I wear orange, another son-in-law is Indo-Canadian (can’t do that this year, I guess) and I lived in Trinidad for a while (ditto). We went to Iceland on vacation this year and I kind of like their story so if/when Japan goes down they might be the one.
That sounds like plan. I am not Italian but just like that team. Since they are out and Holland is out, Spain it is.
One for team Portugal here!
Wasn’t Portugal vspain an amazing game?!
Portugal has the best looking team 😉
I’m half Portuguese so of course I agree to both!
My hubby is part Portuguese (and Russian), I’d agree! 🙂 🙂
Cheering for Iceland here!
I will think of you when I see them play!
#smitetheworld
NV Pichola today- sadly just used up the last of my decant.
Hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was crazy: my youngest graduated high school, we hosted a large graduation party, also attended a Father’s Day party, then last night had a migraine (my first and hopefully last).
Oh dear. I imagine it was just a release of pent up stress or something. Glad you recovered to be able to smell so good. (And it sounds like a great weekend…)
Sounds like a great weekend except for the migraine. You might have gotten a little dehydrated being so busy which can contribute. I have to be careful about that, too.
Wow! What a busy, but nice weekend. You smell fantastic today!
Sorry about the migraine. I hope it was your last also. Hugs for you.
Adding my sympathies, bastet! And congrats to your new grad.
Rest up!
Oh no! I hope migraines do NOT become a regular thing for you. And congrats on your youngest graduating high school!
Thanks everyone for the kind words of sympathy and congratulations.
Congratulations to your youngest! Sorry about the migrane, hopefully it was an isolated incident.
Sounds like a lovely weekend of celebration. Glad the migraine held off until after the parties.
Congrats to your kid! Hope the migraine is gone for good now.
BTW, I have a partially-used 5ml decant of Pichola that I do not love — can I send it to you? PM me if you would like it.
Thanks for the offer! Would love the decant and would be happy to swap, but unfortunately have no idea how to PM you (my son says it means “private message” but that’s as far as I’ve gotten).
I’ll try to catch you tomorrow to get my email address to you, in case you don’t see this.
But if you do, it’s malsnano86 AT the geemail. (Click on my name, it’s a purple link, should take you to my gravatar.)
Congratulations! I hope you are fully recovered and no more migraines occur.
Holy smoke, that was a busy weekend! Congrats on all the wonderful happenings. I’ll add my wishes that you don’t ever get another migraine.
It’s another hot and muggy one here today, so JM Lime Basil and Mandarin seemed like the perfect choice.
Headed out of town this afternoon. madtownteen has her college orientation and registration day tomorrow. She will be joining her brother this fall at my old alum. I don’t know who’s more excited, her or me!????
Yay!! Hope the orientation goes well.
Thanks Robin!
Congrats! Happy travels.
Thanks kpaint! Happy and SAFE travels to you! You’re gonna be a Midwesterner! Woot woot!
Yay! Have fun (and you smell great)!
Thanks KellyC! Having fun so far!????
Very exciting! How far apart are the kids?
They are four years apart in age and were three grades apart because of how their birthdays fell, my son took some time off after high school though.
Congrats to you and your daughter! Will you be an empty nester now?
Thanks! Not quite yet- my “baby”will be thirteen this fall.
Good luck to your middle one 🙂 It will be nice for her having her older brother on campus!
My middle one joins the older marzipan in the fall at the same college AND same major 🙂 (same career as you..both of them!!!)
Thanks CM8! Yes, it is somewhat reassuring to know as I send them out into the world that at least they will have each other near. I bet you feel the same!
Hooray for nursing majors! I wish them both the best!!
Oh, congrats! I hope orientation goes well.
Thanks mals! Doesn’t your son head to school this fall too????? I seem to remember a thread about boys and their messy rooms. I miss my son, but not his room!
Wow, that’s so exciting! It must be a relief to know they’ll be at the same school.
It is pretty exciting! It will definitely make college visits easier too.????
Big congrats to you and madtownteen on college orientation!
Thanks Jalapeno!
Wearing Miu Miu for the picture challenge. It matches the color of the bottle and the easy going vibe of the picture. A no complicated floral scent for a soft and relaxing day the pool.
Ooh – day at the pool sounds great! Enjoy
I wish I could be at the pool! ????
Oh, oops! I figured I wasn’t up to speed on some kind of fabulous vacation plans you have. Bummer! Soon?!?
Hopefully soon! So much needed…????
That’s a great match! I might steal it sometime this week ????
????
Sampling Providence Perfumes Branch & Vine today, which I like but don’t love and wish were stronger… this is a good thing though; I can only spend so much money at PPC and I sampled Sweet Jasmine Brown this weekend and it was instant skanky jasmine love.
Have you tried Hindu Honeysuckle, I think that is the name
I haven’t! Is it great? Right now I have samples of Vientiane and Love-in-a-Mist still to try.
I was also contemplating a PPC sample order as I wore from my decant of Vientiane on Friday night. I LOVE Vientiane! I do like Branch & Vine but wish it lasted longer. I suppose it is a cologne though in its defense. I already have and love many of theirs, but on my to-sample list are Love-in-a-Mist, Heart of Darkness, Divine, Tabac Citron, and Tangerine Thyme. Oh, and the oils! I’m really interested in Sweet Jasmine Brown after your description.
Lovestosmellgood, I really like their Hindu Honeysuckle and have a travel spray. How do you like it?
I really loved it! Well done and doesn’t smell like anything in my perfume collection.
I don’t where perfume to please Mr. L but anytime I sprayed that sample I got bucket loads of compliments.
Maybe that should of been in my FB list for last week… 🙂
Sweet Jasmine Brown is interesting to me in that it smells funky and earthy with my nose to my skin, but the sillage is more of a sweet/pretty jasmine, and I love the contrast. Very curious to hear if others have the same experience!
I have been to PP several times. My favorite of her range is Rose Boheme (tea, oud, patch, rose) but I also really like Love In A Mist (a peppery hay/meadow floral) and own both. I used to have Cocoa Tuberose which is a great winter scent. I sampled all the scents mentioned except Heart of Darkness. I hope you had fun Regina. PP is a pretty little shop and fun to visit.
I’ve gotta try Love-in-a-Mist!
Whoa…how did I miss this?
Can you say more about Vientiane?
I think Victoria at EauMG wrote a review that pretty much matches up with my feelings on it, so I would definitely give that a read. She says “it is the perfect mix of nutty, creamy, green and woodsy.” I agree. It keeps my nose glued to my wrist.
Sounds wonderful!
I am sampling Hermes Iris Ukiyoe from a small decant and drinking a cup of lemon ginger tea.
Lemon ginger sounds good right now…
You smell gorgeous.
I´m wearing the lovely Rose de Siwa, which imho is one of the prettiest roses around.
If my perfumebudget were unlimited I would have bought a full bottle of this long ago. As it is I´m enjoying my very generous sample.
If MDCI did a third of the ml for a third of the price, I might buy a couple of them too.
I love Rose di Siwa too, and am nursing a decant of it.
You smell lovely today. Rose de Siwa is my favorite spring rose. I smell pink everytime I wear it. ????
Coolish & rainy so I felt okay with wearing the warm snuggly amber of Bois 1920 Sutra Ylang. It’s very nice but I am once again reminded that I no longer live for ambers as I once did. I can take them or leave them now.
The other day I wore a sample of extremely vintage Anne Klein II, the first amber I ever fell in love with alllll the way back in 1985, and had the same reaction. I’ve changed.
Oh interesting.
I still adore a few of my early loves (Diorissimo, Cristalle) but others not so much (CK One)
I loved CK One back in the day. I went through a few bottles before I moved on. I bet it doesn’t smell the same nowadays.
It doesn’t!
I loved Sutra Ylang on my first wearing but less so as time went by. So glad I didn’t buy a fb. Still, a very nice perfume.
What a beautiful picture, Robin!
First day of work for new job, only need to commute to my home office!
Strong coffee and Parfum Satori to keep me centered and calm through day one.
Good luck on your first day of work! You smell great!
Yay for first day and for working down the hall!
Good luck for your first day!
Hope that your first day at the new job was a good one!
Lucky you! Enjoy your first day and you smell wonderful!
Good luck on your first day! 🙂
Thank you all
A good first day was had
Commute was one minute
In VC&A Bois d’Iris as I love it AND think it works as a subtle office fragrance. Mondays, ugh.
You smell sooo good. Hoping it helps you through your Monday.
Still waiting for inspiration to strike re: the Hockney. Right now I’m in PdN’s Eau d’Ete for a hot desert day. I’m liking this more and more – wish it lasted longer!
Yum, love that one!
My scent today almost but doesn’t quite fit.
You smell great!
Finally, a cool rainy day after a suffocatingly hot weekend.
Wearing Hermessence Cedre Sambac. It seemed bold and brazen on paper, but is much more cuddly on the skin. Warm woodsy abstract jasmine. I like it a lot.
I can’t thank enough the Chicago Hermes SA who very generously gave two 4ml sample vials each of the three new scents. I won’t feel the need to acquire a travel set for quite some time 😉
Those Hermes samples are great (and even better now that they have sprayers.) I’ve never gotten one for free, but I’ve bought more than a few!
It’s hot and muggy, so I plan to stay inside as much as possible! SOTD is Jovoy’s Rose Millisimee. It’s a really gorgeous true red rose. Really, really beautiful but I feel like I already have something like this…? Must do a comparison to the roses I already have.
I did not venture out until late afternoon yoga!
Inadvertently on theme in Chanel 19 edc. Today is moving day. Everything goes on a truck headed for Cleveland, with my H at the wheel. Things have gone quite smoothly all things considered, but gosh, moving is unbelievably laborious. Fortunately my H has a particular talent for it (and has worked as a mover in the past.) He’s also very kind and doesn’t expect me to do any heavy lifting.
Everything we have is in our storage unit, boxed up and ready to go, so this last bit should be fairly easy going. And No 19 smells perfect.
Good luck with your moving! Hope everything goes smooth and with the less stress possible. You chose the perfect perfume!
Good luck with the big move!
Good luck!!
It sounds like things are going pretty well! Good luck with rest of the move. ????
Good luck !!
My moving truck arrives Thursday at noon, and I still have a ton to pack ( EEK)
You’ll get there!
When I moved cross-country years ago, the movers showed up while I was still packing. They finished everything for me in 30 minutes, it would have taken me a few more hours.
Oh, I didn’t know you were relocating! Where to? Good luck with the packing…
hannahmom, where are you off to?
Best wishes kpaint and hannahmom on the moves!!
Good luck!!!!!!
Good luck on the move! It sounds like things are well organized.
happy trails and enjoy the ride. 😉
My ride will be on a plane on Friday. (The literal one, that is.) The figurative one is just beginning, but it’s pretty exciting! Once the moving in part on the other side is done I might be able to relax a little.
Best of luck to you and hannahmom on your moves!
Good luck! Safe travels!
I hope your move is smooth. How exciting to have a new city to explore!
Hope it goes well! Looking forward to hearing your impressions of life in a new state.
kpaint and Hannahmom, I hope that both of your moves are safe, swift, and easy ones! Best of luck! ????
Thanks for the well wishes, all. Truck is packed but we were waylaid a bit so he won’t be leaving until tomorrow. Best to you, hannahmom!
Love today’s photo Robin. That green!!
I fit pretty well with CP today in Jour d’Hermes Absolu…grapefruit. (Although I admit, despite being a CA girl, I prefer FL grapefruit)
I would love to see that Hockney in person. It’s HUGE!
Gonna be a warm one. I spent yesterday in the bedroom resting a pulled hamstring, thanks to stupid cats in small places deciding to dart between my legs. I turned my AC off because my husband was running it at freezing temp in the living room. It’s a battle all summer….
My bf and I are the same way with the heat. If he had his way, our apartment would be 80 degrees all winter. I’m much more comfortable in the 68-70 degree range.
Oh man.
My husband wants the house at 78F or higher in the summer, but I find that stifling unless the windows are open. I’d love it to be 73, but we compromised at 75. Any hotter than that and I’m dyyyyyyying. Perimenopause is NO JOKE.
78 or higher is not good for perfume storage!
But we are opposites, my husband would prefer 69 or 70 and I hate having to wear sweaters inside in the summer.
I’m with your husband on that one. Fortunately my own hubby has acclimated.
I’m sorry to hear about your hamstring! Recover quickly!
I am slightly obsessed with that painting. It is so compelling to me. I would love to see it in person!
Ow! Your poor hamstring! I hope that you aren’t laid up very long.
Thanks. I’m just being conservative yesterday and today. It’s made me aware that I need more exercise and definitely more stretching. I’ve let my hamstrings tighten up. These are big muscles…when you strain them at all, they’re slower to heal than some others.
Yeah, soft tissue injuries are no joke. I don’t blame you one bit for taking it easy.
I had a partially tear of my hamstring in March. It took 2 mos to heal. Still not 100%. It is a rough injury. ????
*partial
CM8 – are you out there? When I mentioned the things I had learned from cleaning out my mother’s house, you said you would talk to your parents about it, but didn’t think talking would help. I wondered if this book might make them think, since it is written from an older person’s point of view: it’s called “The Gentle are of Swedish Death Cleaning; How to Free yourself and your family from a lifetime of clutter” by Margarita Magnusson. It’s a quick read and not fine literature, but it might open up a conversation.
I’m going to wear Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca once I shower and dress.
Thank you so very much ScentSpirit…I will certainly seek this book out…thank you for thinking of me 🙂 ..while my parents might be a lost cause I certainly am not and am already thinking about making it easier for my children by downsizing and letting go of things.
My local library has it!!! I will pick it up tomorrow 🙂
Thanks from me, too. My mother (who is 79) is still struggling hard with clearing the space in her house where her mother lived, even 10 years after my grandmother’s death. I may check the book out for me, even if Mom won’t read it.
That’s why I read it, but it turned out that wasn’t the focus.
Thank you for the book information, I will try to find this. My in-laws moved from a 3 bedroom house with a full basement into a semi retirement condo. They got rid of quite a bit before the move, but still somehow giant pieces of furniture (a hutch and a patio set with 4 giant chairs) along with tons of household stuff arrived. Their storage closet is jammed. When I went to use the shower, the tub/shower in spare bathroom was FULL of boxes.
90°F and humid again, so I’m in Prada Infusion de Vetiver. I’d take Beverly Hills weather over Cleveland weather most any day, but *especially* today!
It’s in the 90’s today
Hello, vetiver twin!
Today’s SOTD is Jour d’ Hermes by Hermes layered over the body cream. I love this one and wished it lasted longer on my skin, I do adore this scent.
That is a lovely scent! I love that grapefruit note, especially when the weather is hot.
Ooh, you smell fabulous!
Thanks! I went to Sephora to purchase the Jour’ Gardenia and it was no longer stocked (at my location). I guess it only carries the best sellers, apparently. :/
I’m in FM Vetiver Extraordinaire, from an eBay sample. I wore it yesterday too, but only a tiny spritz. This morning, I was a little braver with five sprays, which is definitely the way to go.
I don’t see this mentioned much…what do y’all think of it? I like it, but knowing the general price point, believe there are better options.
One of my very early niche purchases (a trio of travel sprays since they didn’t sell singles then) and the only vetiver I ever owned. I really like it. Earthy with a bit of funk.
It is very smooth and easy to wear, that’s for sure. I’ll keep trying it until I drain the sample as vetivers and I get along well. Thanks for the description! ????
Oh, I thinks it’s wonderful. Don’t own it (same issue with price), but I loved it when I tried it at an FM boutique. I steal spritzes on hot days if I walk by certain stores….
Oh, I wish I lived near a FM boutique! Hmmm, then again, my wallet is probably grateful that I do not.
It’s also going to be hot here today. I’m wearing Jardin de Monsieur Li and looking forward to receiving some samples in the mail later today or tomorrow!
A hot one here today too! I’m twinning you in Monsieur Li and really liking it. I didn’t give this one much of a chance before but in this weather it is lovely.
Yeah, I’m also liking it better in the heat!
Wearing 1270 again. It just always seems to be within reach and is always good for me.
PSA: Slumberhouse is releasing a limited summer batch of discontinued Pear + Olive if anyone missed out on this one some years back. Mine is already on order, so if it doesn’t work out it’ll probably end up in some future swap meet 🙂
I’m curious about Pear + Olive (not curious enough to purchase though). Would love to hear your impressions!
I’m excited to try it too (was never able to find a sample). It always sounded right up my alley, and I’ve been craving some coconut-summer scents as of late.
Have you tried anything else from Slumberhouse you like?
I’ve never tried anything from Slumberhouse, but I’m interested in anything that claims to have an olive note.
These picture projects are some of my favourites !!
I am wearing MDCI Chypre Palatin to match the class and pizzaz of that zebra chair.
Oh good! And also good idea to pick one element, I have to think about that.
Hi All! Late to this.
1) SOTD: Florida Water. We are having a spate of relatively rare hot, humid weather. This past weekend it got VERY hot, thunderous- and then DOWNPOURS! Florida Water really does have a cooling and refreshing effect when it is sticky and humid!
2) Pride parade in Portland was VERY fun; I have never seen so many bare bottoms in chaps EVER, i have to say.
3) Binge alert: Versailles Season 2 on Netflix. NOT FOR KIDS, yo. The guy who plays Prince Phillipe has grown up to be a hottie (he was Mordred on Merlian) Princess Sophie is spunky and bright, and Athenais is by turns pitiable and contemptible. Great fun for costume porn; some of set furnishings are off (the armchairs, it’s make me cry precious!) But all in all, great fun!
I only made it halfway through season 1, but maybe I will go back to it…I think when I started I might have been watching too many things at once. Definitely agree about the costume porn! (Of a different sort than bare bottoms in chaps, ha!)
I’m doing some sample testing this morning, with a set I just ordered from Kyse Perfumes. I already have bottles of Oui Plus, Vertigo Cuir and Vanille Debauche from a few years back, which I just rediscovered in my annual “let’s move/rearrange/rehouse all of the perfume cabinet contents to see if I can come up with a better way to store and access everything” event. Sprayed some Oui Plus, remembered just how much it makes me want to eat my arm, layered it with some other stuff to balance the sweetness, and then went off to sample some more scents from this line. This morning I’m wearing Elegance Sombre, which has started off as a lovely chocolate dipped orange peel. Gourmands only need apply.
Happy Monday, everybody, if that’s a possibility.
Oh this sounds delish. I gotta check it out
clarissa, they are in general very sweet, so if you like that, I encourage you to check out the line. Terri is very nice, and the scents are quite affordable to sample and purchase.
Had not heard of Kyse, onto the sample list it goes.
This week’s to-do list includes clean out the garage, clean out the linen closet, and reorg the clothes & fragrance closet, in that order. That last one is motivation to do the first two. 🙂
It’s amazing just how many perfumes I “kinda forget” I have, so the periodic reorganization is a good reminder.
I did the same cleaning detail in my bathroom linen closet last weekend. It felt really good to get it done. I threw away so much stuff!
I organized my perfumes and samples too. I found a few decants that I had forgotten about.
Happy organizing!
I’m in OJ Sampaquita which I think it really lovely, though I probably don’t need a bottle. And I think it fits the painting- it’s tropical and I can totally see wearing it in that chair by the pool (not very deep I know, but the best I could do on a Monday ha!)!
Hey, deep is not a prerequisite!
Thanks to everones sinus health suggestions this weekend. Today, joining my diet coke, was 2 cups of ginger tea with a side of turmeric supplement. No lies, probably the healthiest thing I’ve had in my body in years ????. Sotd is Terracotta. Doesn’t really match the picture, but it’s such a summery day I went with it. 3 hours in though, it’s about gone. Happy Monday!
mmm, ginger tea.
Terracotta is summer in a bottle. You smell fab!
Thank you!
I missed the convo, but as a long-time sinus sufferer I’ll throw in flonase and a NeilMed sinus flush system as my own personal lifesavers.
I think SpringPansy mentioned the Nelimed, I’m going to check it out. I’ve also started the flonase
I’ve been drinking a turmeric green tea from the Republic of Tea (not affiliated) for about a year now. Don’t know if it helps, but I like the taste. ????
I will give it a try. I think I’m going to become a massive tea drinker.
PSA – Slumberhouse has brought back a limited batch of Pear and Olive. It can be found on their website
SOTD – Pear and Olive.
Nice! It’s comforting that they sometimes bring scents back. I am crossing my fingers, though not counting on it, that Vikt one day gets a revival. I think it’s genius but just can’t pay discontinued resale prices for it.
Trying out Grandiflora QOTN today.
Got a decant a while back but so many vanillas got in my way. ????
I just love QOTN and will look forward to hearing your thoughts on it! It’s such a beautiful floral and is light but has a lot of depth, I think.
It is lovely…different and elegant.
So does this mean that Vanilla Quest 17/18 is finished?
Heresy, Jalapeño! We are only halfway through. ????
Urgh monday…but work is done, looking forward to watch new episode of Westworld tonight!
(Dutch HBO is always a day behind on US HBO…)
SotD is Dryad
Oh and nice project this week, i love David Hockney!
I’m glad you approve!
Yes, hot today. I’m wearing Carthusia Mediterraneo. The atomizer gives a big spray of very fine droplets, so I only needed two spritzes. I’m trying to get a jump on jet lag for my upcoming trip, so I went to bed last night at 9:30, up today at 5, and I’ll keep setting myself back until I leave. It’s 5:30 pm in London now but just past breakfast here. Shall I have some dinner in a little while, or a sandwich? More coffee is certain.
Spending the day in Coromandel and its growing on me. It might be full bottle worthy. Saving pennies for it.
You smell fabulous
Oh, you smell wonderful. I love Coromandel.
Robin, I have You or Someone Like You on deck for later this week as a pairing with the Hockney.
But today I was inspired by my new Kneipp Passionfruit & Grapefruit Body Wash, so I’m wearing Arielle Shoshana. I only wish the delightful passionfruit note lasted longer. I’ve already reapplied in the bathroom at work. I feel like the Beverly Hills Housewife might approve of this one.
Ari EdP is so great. I have an almost empty sample in my “best of 2017” stash.
You or Someone Like You goes nicely with that Hockney. 😀
I love AS! It’s not quite (*quite*) hot enough for me to drag out the bottle, but I know that time’s coming.
That Passionfruit & Grapefruit bodywash sounds fantastic! Might have to give that a sniff next time I’m at the mall that carries the line.
It smells wonderful! Just as it sounds. Only thing I’m not sure about is if it’s as moisturizing as I’d like it to be.
Usually moisturizing cleansers don’t work too well for me, so that actually sounds like a bit of a plus in my book.
Hey Twin!
SotD = PHI une rose de kandahar
SO GOOD.
We are not worthy, but I thank the universe that Andy Tauer walks the earth creating perfect fragrant art with a wink, a nod, and absolute integrity.
Nyquil-me has good taste. When I had flu a few weeks ago I procured samples of PHI, Sotto la Luna Tuberose, and Les Annees 25. Each one is beautiful. Mind blown.
Speaking of mind blown, I’m so glad it’s Autistic Pride Day. I should have known about this one. In my family we say “the Force runs strong” as we watch neurologically atypical behaviors wax and wane through the generations and the lives of individuals. I can really relate to Frankie Heck, the mom from the tv show The Middle. We have a few Bricks in our family, both young and old.
To celebrate all manner of diversity, I’m wearing my blue t-shirt that says “Different is Be-YOU-tiful.” Have a fabulous day, everyone, and let your fragrant freak flag fly in whatever colors and scents you choose! 😀
You smell amazing, and I thank the universe for Andy as well!
thanks, jirish!
Andy Tauer is one in a million.
Hear hear for your comments about Andy, I totally agree. You smell marvelous.
Yay for Andy Tauer!
And thanks, even now at the end of the day, I think PHI still smells amazing.
I have 2 kids with autism and never heard of autistic pride day. Im very proud of them. I love people like you, who are so accepting of someone being different. We’ve come across many people who are not. The people who get it, have been a blessing to my family.
lillyjo ~ have you heard of Iris and her cat Thula? Iris is a little girl from GB, she autism who paints, Thula is her Maine Coon therapy cat, video is below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1UcTZwP0v0
Just watched this with my daughter. Pretty neat. Thanks!
aw, thanks, lillyjo, your words mean a lot to me. Our world would be an awfully boring place if we were all the same. Vive la différence!
My nephew fits the Asperger’s diagnosis quite well, and my own two kids have challenges that lean in the same direction. In our family we also like to say that everyone on this planet fits somewhere on the spectrum even though some of us haven’t found our place yet. 😀
You smell incredible. Thank you for letting me know about Autistic Pride Day!
thanks, sistine! Trying PHI for the first time made me very happy.
And many thanks go to Robin for mentioning Autistic Pride Day. It’s funny to think how it feels like there’s “a day” for everything. Some days can be more remarkable than others.
Can’t believe I missed donut day this year!
Just ????
Right back at you! 😀
+1 for your comments on both Andy Tauer and Autism Awareness Day, tiffanie!
It was a doubly good day. 😀 😀
Happy afternoon, all! It’s hot and humid and I’m in Mandragore. Almost at the end of my bottle – about 5 ml left.
A massive dosage of L’Eau de Kasaneka…I need minimum of 10+ sprays to smell it and I also need to re-apply throught out the day due to longevity on my scent eating skin. Not participating in the CP this week because the brain isn’t working….might stick with Kasaneka all week.
and to quote Lucas, this is definitely a “cuddlefluff” fragrance for me 🙂
Your sotd sounds marvelous, I just looked it up. I wish cuddlefluff were a note I could search for on Fragrantica! And that bottle is amazing. Travel to Japan is on my wish list. I’d be tempted to spend too much time sniffing perfume.
it really is a hidden gem…the bottle was gifted to me by a very lovely and generous NSTer. I adore the bottle as well 🙂 I too would not mind a trip to Japan. Also, I hear the Japanese flea markets have vintage frags that sell for a song.
Hot, humid and rainy here. Drenched myself in Songes after a few spritzes of Nuit de Tubereuse.
Yes to Songes! I’ve neglected that favorite for too long. This summer will be different.
SOTD = Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT
Matching the cool elegance of the woman.
With the weather having turned scorchingly hot comes the dilemma of what to wear on the commute in. Usually, the trains are freezing cold but the walk from public transportation to the office is HOT. UNIQLO to the rescue with these really thin one layer hoodies. The fabric is breathable and light and keeps the temporary chill out. The only thing that can make this better is if was waterproof without sacrificing the pliability of the fabric.
In other news, I am starting 2 more occasional segments:
– Egregious Experiences for non-commuting-related things that annoyed me
– Life-changing Experiences for amazing things that happened, including a shout out of products I’ve found particularly remarkable.
Hopefully I’ll have more life-changing things to talk about than egregious behaviors!
Ugh!!! I do not miss those NYC summers…I agree with you on the challenge of what to wear (I always kept sweaters in my office)…
looking forward to your two new segments 🙂
I have a few lined up already and will likely post in pairs! Never mind that the first life-changing thing is related to the toilet.
And of course I collected 2 Commuting Woes today!
😉
I found my thin one layer hoodie at Hanes! It’s a good thing, too, because I got tree sap on it the second time I wore it and the stain won’t come out. I’d be really upset if I hadn’t paid $10 for it.
Just about the only store in these here parts that carries Hanes is Sears. Walmart is a like further and I don’t even know where the nearest KMart is. I will check them out though as I love a bargain!
Hanes.com! Free shipping too. Mine is called the Women’s Slub Jersey and I bought it in white. Just bought another to replace the stained one.
Now I want all the colors except the one that looks like orange but is more of a peach.
Last time I was in NYC it was summer and I couldn’t fathom how people dealt with that. Are people just sick all summer what with the continual temperature extremes? The nast dripping from the ceiling certainly can’t help.
Conversely, I spent a summer in college commuting on a hot, sweaty bus back and forth to an ice cold office, schlepping a huge wool turtleneck each way. I didn’t get sick but I had many itchy rides.
I think most are used to the extremes. I keep a black wool high-low drapey cardigan at work which matches everything!
One of the ickiest with what to wear is many end up wearing short sleeves or sleeveless and I CANNOT STAND.touching a stranger’s SKIN. Yuck!
First I’ve got to say that I went right to the Neiman Marcus website to look at those candles–I love that kind of iridescent pottery. It reminds me of Japanese lustre wear, which I happen to collect. I was all ready to buy one when I noticed all the other colors they have (the one for white woods and mint looks especially beautiful), and I couldn’t make up my mind.
I am trying out Arquiste The Architects Club this morning, from the very fun package hajusuuri so generously sent me. This is an interesting and non-sweet vanilla, which goes on with strong juniper berry and citrus (bitter orange) notes. I’ve had it on for over an hour now and those aren’t there any more. I prefer the very lush and sweeter Anima Dulcis, I think. Neither one is suitable for the Hockney painting, but I have some ideas about that for this Friday.
OOO I really liked the Architects Club from my own hajusuuri package..I tried it, liked it but added it to my son’s fragrance collection for if I am not mistaken it is unisex, right?
It is unisex!
Yes, it includes smoke as well, as in tobacco, I mean. I just wish that juniper element would last longer, it’s so neat with the vanilla.
I loved the dark iridescent jar for Incense and Smoke! and the dark green one, but I’m pretty sure I would not need Balsam and Eucalyptus.
And … one of my first cousins is the rep for Arquiste! I only see him during family reunions and special occasions. Sadly, it was the previous generation that usually organized the get togethers and the last of that generation passed away last year.
I grabbed a carded sample of Mon Guerlain to put on after the pool* without checking the notes, but three minutes after application I got a massive headache.
A massive LAVENDER headache. CUSS IT. (I should always check the notes list for Dreaded Lavender.) I already washed it off, and went for Charnel Elixir Floral Romantique, which I love and am slightly embarrassed about loving, but not enough to not wear it.
* After three years of suffering from plantar fasciitis which was being ignored by my doctor, I finally put my foot down (ha) and insisted that the practice allow me to see another doctor in the same office. New one was all, “Yeah, you need to take massive Advil for the next 3-4 weeks, and either get some sandals from [brand] or never take your athletic shoes off. And do these exercises [hands me printed info with pictures]. And ignore your Fitbit. Swim, or do stationary bike, or water aerobics. Do NOT walk 10,000 steps a day.) So I’m doing water aerobics with all the fab old ladies at the Y, for the next couple of weeks. They are a trip. I love them.
Ugh, I’m sorry that it took so long for you to get some attention for your foot problems! The new doctor sounds like a much better fit for you. Have fun in the pool!
🙂 I love the pool.
Oh do say the brand mals! I have plantar fasciitis and my feet are always so hot in summer because sandals make it worse
Chacos. They are heavy (ish) and they have a fairly rigid high arch, but MAN do they feel good to me. I have high arches anyway — I recently found out that people with either high or flat arches are more prone to PF. Also, they’re kinda ugly.
I also bought some Tevas (also ugly IMO), but they are cushier/less supportive, so they’re getting used in the pool to keep ma feets from the hard pool bottom as per New Doctor.
I had tried Vionics, but apparently I need ankle support and the pair of Vionics I bought a few years ago are slides. I cannot wear them without pain now, and should probably get rid of them.
Thank you!!! My arches are too high too so I will definitely try them
I’ve had a couple of bouts PF too and when it strikes I hobble over to the sports clinic get some physiotherapy,. It’s only partly covered by insurance but well worth it. German Hobbit shoes are neither cheap nor flattering, but they’re better than stabbing pain any day…
I’m wearing Byredo Super Cedar today. I was given a huge bottle for my birthday, which was slightly alarming because I’d never smelled it. But my sister-in-law knows my tastes well – I love it. It smells like a warm cedar deck, and I am all over it. I didn’t choose it to match the painting, but I think it fits.
On a completely unrelated note, I had to have my first (and last!) gel manicure removed today. What a pain in the behind.
I don’t even know what gel manicure is and it sounds likes I should avoid it!
Huge pain to take off. But your nails look fab for about 2 wks.
SotD was Aedes Iris Nazarena. It doesn’t match the picture. Oh well…
You smell wonderful!
Enjoying Versace Blonde today – gorgeous Fracas-like tuberose in a lovely mini bottle.
It is loosely connected to the picture. Blonde = the blonde lady (Betty Freeman) in the picture.
I just put on a little more Dojima, which is my SOTD. It usually lasts well, but today I just wanted a little more.
This AM I drained the last of my Scent Bird decant of Velvet Lavender (Eric Buterbaugh) — sorry Mals for your lavender allergy!– which I thought I was totally meh about, but it might be the first Scent Bird I have ever finished –I’ve given all of the others away.
In random other news, finally got my grey hair taken care of today. Last time I “cheated” on my regular hair colorist in the interest of time (she doesn’t cut hair and I was getting a hair cut). I knew I’d be in for a lashing, but it was worse than I expected. Turns out the hair cutting guy was indeed the devil incarnate who damaged, ruined, and fried my hair, and worst of all, she said, was that he’d turned my hair khaki green! (Who knew?) Why did I subject myself to this lecture? Too darn lazy to figure out a plan B 😉 And she does do a lovely job –Oakland Fresca AKA formerly of green hair fame and damn proud of it
Speaking of pride, thinking of Autism Pride Day, my younger son (who has many challenges) works with folks at the Center for Independent Living to improve some of his pedestrian skills. ANYWAY, their slogan is “Be Your Own Normal, Whatever That Means.” 🙂 🙂 🙂
I had a similar hair coloring disaster but it was of my own making. I’ve been doing my color myself for the past couple of years but really shouldn’t be. I figured it’d all be good after chopping it all of, save an inch or so, a couple of weeks ago. But no! It needed evening out so I re-colored and effed it up again. Fortunately I had already done some research on stripping fresh color out, and was able to *mostly* fix it. Since then it has faded into exactly the color I wanted – phew!
I actually thought my hair looked okay. Not great, but okay. And definitely not verde! (My grey roots on the other hand were getting scary.) But she was having a hard time forgiving me. The cuckolded colorist!
But I have had my own hair disasters. Ooohhh thick bands of highlights that started mid-length, and cutting bangs unevenly, and just general ‘oh noooooooo’s!
“The case of the cuckolded colorist” would be a great Perry Mason title!
Was it an ash shade? The base is actually green(which counteracts red tones) so that’s not crazy.
I’ve decided to embrace my own normal and let the gray grow in…. some days I like the gray, other days I think my hair just looks dusty. I’m just too cheap to do what I’d really like…go blonde (like I was when I was 10.)
I have several friends who are rocking their grey (gray? I’m a terrible speller) and I bet you look terrific.
Grey is way too stylish for my gray… ????
LOVE IT. That’s a great slogan to live by.
And congrats on vanquishing all the hair demons.
I’m in some of the same icky sticky weather as quite a few other NSTers. I bailed on walking to the grocery store today… too darn hot. Nothing on that list is “have to have immediately”… it can wait until tomorrow.
SOTD = Byredo Flowerhead, from a lovely and generous NSTer. It hung out with me while I washed the last load of backlogged laundry today. w00t w00t! (Insert happy dance!)
Yay for conquering the laundry!
The only place I’m heading in this icky weather tonight is to the pool, where I’ll join the other old ladies in water aerobics. 🙂
Sounds like you’ve found a great way to have some fun and cool off!
I find finishing the laundry very satisfying. Glad you got all caught up ????
Now I have a “normal” sized pile of laundry, instead of a mountain. ????
Late to the party today, but I wore Monserrat for a very warm back-to-work Monday which started very early for our monthly team meeting with its 2 hour commute to my facility. Halfway there, the meeting got canceled, which was fine by me, but wish I could’ve slept longer.
Well, drat! Wish you could have regained that lost sleep…
Bleah on the lost sleep.
Mostly what makes me sleep less is knowing I have to wake up at 5. Blurgh.
Oh man that is not cool. Nor is a 2 hr commute, sheesh!
I’m glad I didn’t have to go in, actually-just glad I didn’t get all the way there.
I know zilch about commuting in NYC but I’m surprised that they don’t do a video conference or find some other alternative. Seems like a lot of wasted time.
Hope you can sleep a little later tomorrow.
Only a couple of us commute on public transport and live far. Another colleague’s commute is over 2 hours! Yeah, we were talking about that earlier, doing video conference. But they are so tech backwards where I work.
It’s mostly a waste of time because we don’t actually do much in our meetings-primarily complaining and gossip (and cake for whoever’s birthday is that month).
I wore Yosh’s Ginger Ciao today, which is really too big for the office, but at least no one complained (to my face, anyway).
I have it in the oil, and it seems to me to stick close to me as a skin scent. I don’t know if you’ve tried that or not. Nobody smells it unless they come up really close or hug me and then I get nice compliments.
I had one of those days at work when everything went wrong. So glad it’s over. Luckily, I wore Arielle Shoshana today which is very cheerful.
Ugh, what a bummer that your Monday was a MONDAY! Luckily, you smelled great during all the chaos.
Wishing you an easier day tomorrow.
Thanks!
You, too, eh? Hoping for a better week ahead!
Happy Monday Everyone! This is the first official day of my summer vacation. As educators, it seems like our summers get shorter and shorter every year. I think that we counselors get a total of 4 weeks off this summer. We head back the week of July 17th. But, I guess I should be grateful of the time I have.
As I do every summer, I try to go through my samples. So today, my SOTD (which has nothing to do with the picture) is Lime, Gardenia & Benzoin by Dame Perfumery. This is a beautiful fragrance and is totally appropriate for the season, but doesn’t last very long on me. If the longevity were better, this would totally be FB worthy.
Enjoy the week, everyone!
Sotd: Eau de Magnolia-absolute perfection on this hot day! ????
Love! You smell great!
