Thursday scent of the day 6/14

Posted by Robin on 14 June 2018 208 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Flag Day and World Blood Donor Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm doing high summer, in good old CB I Hate Perfume Memory of Kindness. On my wish list for 12 years now.

Reminder: 6/15 will be Wish List Friday...wear a fragrance that's in the top 5 of your full bottle wish list. Suggested by Katrina.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Inspired by johanob
    Tempo (in hair)
Woman in Gold (on wrist…this is gorgeous)
Melograno (on tops of feet…this is vintage Emeraude to my nose)

Memory of Kindness I will smell one day because I love tomato leaf as a note…I bet you smell great, Robin!

I just remembered that I had wishlists on old date books going back to the late 1970s…but in my recent days of purging I threw everything out…..now I wish I had taken a peak at those lists before doing so…….

PEEK NOT Peak….although cumulatively that list would probably be the size of a large peak :)

You familiar with Melograno!!!! No one really mentions it. First time I sniffed it I was taken aback as I expected something fruity from a perfume called “pomegranate”….I was delighted in what I smelled…nothing really fruity about it…I am seriously considering wearing it daily for the entire summer.

The bottle I have is older so I am not sure if it has been reformulated. It was originally released in 1965. To my nose it is really well blended…it’s powdery, a tad sweet, amber and has an oriental vibe but in looking at the notes there is also oakmoss and vetiver listed. It’s hard to explain but I love it…it was love at first sniff for me….while some might find it to be dated I think of it as a “classic” scent and definitely unisex.

How do you rate this on the sliding Iris scale? More powdery or more carroty? I may need to sample this one..

      • perfumelover67 says:

It is carroty in the opening and soft powdery in the drydown. Very well balanced. It does not last on me more than 3 hours. It is very lovely.
I am about to order a sample of Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo. It seems to be a beautiful iris perfume.

Digging through a box of samples, I found Tommi Sooni Jinx, which, it turns out, is basically late-1970s White Linen with a big glug of grapefruit juice in the top. It’s really, really good (because vintage White Linen was truly great).

I love Pacifica Sandalwood…such a shame it is discontinued along with many others I have loved. Took a peek (spelled it right this time-LOL!) on their website and so many are MIA- Spanish Amber, Brazilian Mango Grapefruit. Med Fig, Wakiki Pikaki, etc , etc. Wonder why the company has gotten rid of so many of them.

Sad about Tibetan Mountain Temple, though…if I am not mistaken that was their very first fragrance…which actually was a candle…the owner of the company, Brooke, started with candles and then segued into perfumes.

They even got rid of the small solid perfumes. I gave the last one I had of French Lilac to a friend a couple of days ago. She wanted to order more but just could not find it on their website. So sad!

yes, the solids disappeared a while ago. The middle Marzipan ordered a whole bunch when she heard that they were being discontinued. They also got rid of their candles as well which I really loved. I noticed that the prices are inflated on ebay now.

The Pacifica website recently changed their address, so I was getting errors following my old link. When I did get to their site, I found that French Lilac is still available as a spray. Bummed to see that Spanish Amber and Tibetan Mountain Temple are gone from the lineup. I might get a BUB of Persian Rose, though.

I have BUB of French Lilac, Persian Rose, Tibetan Mountain and Mediterranean Fig. I feel bad I did not get any Spanish Amber. And all solids I ended up giving them to friends. Sadly, I never stocked on any of the solids. I think we will not see what is left of the favorites for too long.

Not really local access, but whenever I’m in France I try to find a shop.
Their Paris shops are wonderful, very stylish and not as snobbish as MF.

Today will be a perfect day to go pick strawberries if I can wrangle my teenager out of bed. Our window is short here, so I have to get them while I can. Store bought-although I will eat them- are just no match for fresh.????

Yes, it really is yummy! It reminds me of bronze goddess, which I’ve never actually worn on skin, but I’ve sniffed it many times. I get a few hours and like most perfume oils, it wears close to the skin.
If you like perfume oils, the entire line is worth checking out. I ordered the sampler set so I could try all 8. My personal favs are Gigi, More than the Stars and this one. Amongst the Waves also comes in a body lotion!
You’ll have to report back if you end up trying any!

Lovestosmellgood ~ and, you can find this online for super cheap!
It’s in the same scent profile/vein as Estee Lauder’s White Linen, Estee (without the aldehydes), Courreges in Blue and Farouche by Nina Ricci…
I find it both refreshing and comforting.

I’m wearing Escentric 2 today – I love it, but the half-full bottle is taunting me and I am trying to wear it more often in hopes of finishing it before 2020.

Funny blood donation story – I went to work out with my trainer this morning and was really struggling, especially with cardio which is normally my strength. She was trying to figure out what was wrong, and I finally remembered that I had given blood on Monday, and that it was the donation where you give twice as many red blood cells. She ordered me to get a cupcake on the way home. Moral – be smart after giving blood and treat yourself gently for a few days. And never turn down the chance to get a cupcake!

Take care of yourself! Yay for cupcakes and giving blood. I tried to do that a few weeks ago- where you give the extra red blood cells- but they wouldn’t let me because I’m vertically challenged. ;)

Grabbed a sample of Encre Noire, because…vetiver. Amusingly, I had my husband sniff my wrist. He liked it. Didn’t think he’d wear it. But his opinion changed after I told him it was really more a “men’s” scent, although he thinks it’s a bit “soft” for a man scent. (He persists in delineating…).

My bf is the same way. Once he accidentally sprayed on L’eau d’Issey at a department store, thinking it was a men’s scent. He really liked it until he realized it was a women’s scent. I told him it doesn’t matter and he could wear whatever he damn well pleases, but I think he was too sheepish. Silly boy.

I was in a perfumery one day and a bloke came in, glowered around the place, and and bellowed at the SAs, “do you have MAN’s scents, for MEN? Not perfume, not for women.” (he flinched at this point) “For MEN?!”

I am absolutely awash in Carnal Flower today (working at home today, so, ha! I am surrounded by a HUGE radiant clouds of gorgeousness.)

…and with gratitude to every person who has ever given blood. I am in debt to the blood bank to the tune of several dozen litres over my life, and could not be walking without the generosity of blood donors who made it possible for me to have all this surgery. I’m not allowed to pay back in the good red stuff, so, please accept some love instead.

My son is also indebted. For years I couldn’t give blood because of all the malaria medication I took over the course of one year. But now I can and do regularly. It is an extraordinary thing to see the packed red blood cells packets draining into someone you love and the person slowly begin to come back to the world. I am glad you are feeling well and that life is good in Carnal Flower–fitting for World Blood Donor Day indeed!

I have a Gallon card but stopped donating for reasons too complicated to get into here, to use mals’s words. Even though I have the most common O+ blood type, it was tagged as rare because it is missing something that makes it ideal to be used by people who have received multiple transfusions.

SotD = Tocade, the scent of a rose-vanilla butter cookie

This is a perfect scent for donor day. It was a gift to me from a fabulous NSTer when I had recently read The Guide, where Tocade is praised with “vivid eyes, a ready laugh, and pretty dancing feet.”

I usually spritz on Tocade in the evening, and then I giggle. The scent is so odd and happy, the bottle is hilariously unusual. I adore it.

Do donate blood if you can! My dad donated every 8 weeks for years, stopped only when he aged out. I try to follow his example by donating when I can meet the body mass requirements. I’ve learned the hard way not to fudge my numbers up. Can’t fool those Red Cross nurses, they know what they’re doing. When you donate, you’re in very good hands, and you’re saving lives.

I was just walking around and saw there is a bloodmobile outside my office today. Now I know why! If they are there after lunch, I may go donate. I have the good stuff – O negative, so I’m a universal donor, and feel obligated to donate when I can. I never had a problem with the weight requirement, but have been turned away several times for iron/hemoglobin levels.

We had a function today at work where everyone had to bring their favorite tart and the recipe. We’re about 13 staff members in theatre so I “sampled” 12 different sweet tarts.Yum.
Mine was a fridge tart made with coffee creamer, condensed milk and lemon juice.I added Marachino cherries and pineapple crush to make it interesting.Pretty proud to say mine was the favorite!!

SOTD = The Different Company Bois d’ Iris

From the Freebiemeet! I’be only previously smelled this on paper and despite being able to get freebie dabber samples on many occasions, I have somehow never prioritized this on a self-imposed number of freebies I can request, even when I’ve made a purchase.

By itself, it is pleasant but unremarkable. Besides woody Iris, I also got soapy leather ashtray. In relation to other Iris perfumes I own or have tried, this ranks in the lower third. Conclusion: I am happy with my decant but will not be purchasing s FB.

On my left wrist is Armani Prive Eau de Jade and on my right is the same label Figuier Eden. Both are beautiful! The jade is almost pure lime on me, creating a lemming for a nice-sized G&T with lime. The fig is not your usual creamy luscious fig scent, but a scent loaded with spice and character. Both are going to be fun to try again and see how they develop. I’ve never tried either before and this makes me so happy! I have been binge-watching The Tunnel Season 2 on Amazon Prime and was up until 2:30 a.m last night, and it seemed to continue through my dreams–I’d better not do that again! Have a good day, all. We have a very rainy weekend predicted for her in Houston, but no flooding, thank goodness. Hope that is right.

Hello NST, it’s been a while since I’ve visited! What’s everyone excited about in perfumeland these days?

I’m wearing Hiram Green Dilettante, but I think Moon Bloom is #1 on my wishlist from that line!

SOTD is Heeley’s Cuir Pleine Fleur. It has been on my wish list for a while but I never pull the trigger.

My 10ml decant of Vetiver Insolent arrived mid morning, and I happily sprayed with abandon, as I am plannning to get a full bottle In a couple of months. Miller Harris is such an underrated house, and often available heavily discounted. This one is a gem- if u like you’re Vetiver spicy, (black pepper and cardomom) this one is really worth a try. It’s my favourite Vetiver, and I’ve heard that it’s reminiscent of vintage Guerlain Vetiver, although I prefer this to current GV, I haven’t tried vintage.

I managed to snag a deeply discounted bottle of that at TK Maxx. I rarely get to wear it, though: my husband keeps wearing it, and carefully moving it to his side of the perfume shelf. (My real MH love is fleur de sel, though, so that’s ok. Except he nicks that too.)

Last night, I wore the last drops from my sample of Dusita’s Le Sillage Blanc. It’s on the top of my wish list, maybe it will be my birthday present to myself in a few months. I’m very pleased that it’s Friday here, I’m still deciding what to wear as an appropriate celebration of the approaching weekend, and am leaning towards Guerlain, maybe Vol de Nuit EdT.

Hello NST! It’s been a long day already for me. One of the cats decided that she wanted to play this morning @ 4:30. And she was kind of vocal about it. Ugh. Caffeine is kind of cutting thru the brain fog, but a good night’s sleep is what I really want.

Commando for part of the day, due to an appt with the eye doctor. SOTrD (scent of the rest of the day) = Samsara EdP, from my bottle. Because it was exactly what I wanted to wear.

That is such a great, juicy photo! SOTM was Iris Rebelle on one hand and TM Aura on the other. Both are really growing on me. I thought Aura was way too sweet at first, and it is a little overwhelming when first sprayed, but it calms down really nicely. Iris Rebelle is almost too carroty at first, but so light and easy to wear in no time. I might have to treat myself to the purse spray of Iris Rebelle and the cute little small bottle of Aura (unless I get lucky and my husband has gotten it for me for my birthday–he smelled it somewhere and apparently liked it).

I agree, the more I wear Aura the more I like it. Something in there is almost addicting. Hope you get it for your birthday!

Crazy long day. Busy as heck, didn’t even get my lunch. I discovered that my new (inherited accounts) had horrible, convoluted instructions left for me. And of course we have to track our time spent on tasks for the next few weeks, so I have to explain myself in that regard a my numbers are too high.

So to counteract this awful day I’ve b!asted myself with 7 sprays of vintage Poison. At least I made it through the week! And I can enjoy my weekend partially alone. ????

        Haha! No need to bow.

But this is damn good. My hubby usually comments (not in a positive manner), but no words from him tonight. Maybe I suffocated him somehow. Or he’s used to me finally.

Down here at the tail end of the comments: it is my birthday! A big, round, half-century. Started the day in Infusion d’Iris, then (after the beach! We are here for a week!!!), switched to Cristalle Eau Verte when I changed for dinner. I feel very summery and very happy
