Tuesday scent of the day 6/12

Posted by Robin on 12 June 2018 178 Comments

Hey, it's Tuesday and it's International Falafel Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing Parfum d'Empire Corsica Furiosa, 4 years on my wish list. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Traktir.

Reminder: 6/15 will be Wish List Friday...wear a fragrance that's in the top 5 of your full bottle wish list. Suggested by Katrina.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: shown is the Winsford teapot ("Our Winsford tea collection celebrates the Britishness of classic afternoon tea.") from Neptune, £30.

    You smell amazing Robin!

In the last drops of my sample of Frederic Malle Iris Poudre. It is on my long, long wish list of full bottles. I will miss it.

Coffee and more coffee. Barely keeping myself awake on another super busy week.
    Be well NSTers!

I saved up three years for a bottle of IP and I don’t regret buying it! I love that one. I tried a number of substitutes (Gianfranco Ferre, and a couple of things suggested to me) but nothing was even *close*.

Iris Poudre is my fancy-dress fragrance. Luckily, I have few enough fancy-dress occasions that my 10ml should last me forever . . .

I love a slight bitterness in it – very refreshing. Longevity is poor, typical for traditional colognes. It’s a scent I would like to put in a fridge and spray every hour on a hot day. €130 is kind of pricey though.

I have never eaten a falafel, by the way. Since so many of you like it, I am adding eating a falafel to my bucket list. But I will eat some hummus today. That’s the closest I can manage at a short notice. :D

Wearing my sample of Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d`Iris

This is a beautiful scent, and while I would gladly take a free bottle, drop shipped to my door, I find it quite similar to Prada’s Infusion d’Iris + Orchidee Vanille, both of which I already own.

Do you know how hard it is to find falafel in a small, rural East Texas town? I have to drive an hour to go to a Mediterranean buffet. Yummy! And worth it.
Today’s Hermes is Rouge. Second or third time to wear it and it is a lovely rose and sandalwood fragrance, but I can get Bollywood or Bust from Smell Bent for a lot less. And while Bollywood or Bust may not be as refined as Rouge, I like it a lot.

Rouge was love at first sniff for me when it came out. I find the powdery, rose/sandalwood combo both comforting and sexy.

Hotel coffee is the worst! It’s like brown water. Equally as bad are the dehydrated scrambled eggs they serve in many of the “continental breakfasts.” Yuck!

I meant to respond to your powdered egg comment – but I accidentally made it a comment to ElisaP. Anyway, I just wanted to say you can usually ask for eggs cooked to order even with a buffet, pretty much as long as the buffet area is attached to a kitchen.

Even in buffet situations, it never hurts to ask if you can get eggs cooked to order. I use the same perfume sample procurement charm to get fried eggs over hard. If I get a little hesitation, I tell them I have food allergies and really appreciate the accommodation.

If I could find a sample – which I know that I don’t have because I drained every last drop – I would be wearing Vero Profumo’s Rubj, which I love but have never been able to bring myself to buy. I once gave away a bottle of Kiki (lavender is not my note) that somebody had given to me, and swapped Onda for something else (it was ultimately too scary for me to wear), but Rubj – definitely on my wish list.

It’s a temporary lull, I’m sure. But it does feel good. Not buying samples really helps until I go sniff in a brick n mortar store. Then I might be in trouble! And I’ve been good about not blind buying, so…

I dug around for my Ananas Fizz decant but wasn’t looking in the right box and ran out of time to look further. I wanted to match the white button up blouse with a pineapple print that I’m wearing! It’s a fun, happy day for clothes. I’m also wearing my new gently used sandals from eBay. They’re my favorites from Kork Ease that are really hard to find now. I snagged these for $10.50!

Oh, so perfume today is Un Jardin Apres la Mousson. It would have fit last week’s top ten of summer. A controversial opinion is that it shares favorite status of the jardin line with Mediterranee.

SOTD is 31 Rue Cambon, my third 5ml decant of it. I’m not sure whether it’s on my wishlist or not, but as soon as I drain a decant and think, “Oh, I liked that but I don’t need more,” well … I guess I need more.

mals, I just had one a couple of months ago, and it was a breeze. My insurance wouldn’t pay for general anesthesia – don’t get me started – so I popped for the extra sedation, and it was completely worth it, in my opinion. Nobody wants to be awake for that. The worst part is definitely the prep. Chill that gallon of fluid; it will go down easier.

The CEO (uh, that’s my husband’s nom de blog) just had his first one done in April and didn’t have any trouble with the actual procedure. He complained pretty much nonstop about the “clear liquid diet” part of the prep, though!

One small suggestion…the day before you begin the actual prep, eat as lightly as you can. Soup, sandwich, etc. It will make your prep day a little easier. ????

1)Super bright morning and summery day, so I am in Cap Neroli , which was on my wish and I am so glad I sprung for it and a second bottle besides. Guys, get this if you can.

    2) Aromatics Elixir shower gel is perfect for summer as well- it’s a great way to experience the scent and leaves the house smelling very nice indeed.

    3) Stiff, aching back from weekend activities- delayed pain! Ugh!

If you have the money, I highly, HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest this lovely scent. It is a scent that the advertisement copy, for once, undersold the appeal. And don’t be frightened by the eau de cologne designation: It settles down BUT in heat the scent will rise; in a cooler a/c room it becomes a close aura and it is absolutely lovely and the right amount of subtle.

Was going to dive into my lovely Lutens freebies (thanks SarahN!) but then I spotted Saint Julep and decided that was just what I needed for today. Not sure I need a FB but I like it.

You know what else I’m enjoying? My new Pacifica nail polish in Dragon Scale. I rarely wear the non-pink/red traditional colors on my fingernails, but I love this shimmery, subtle green. In fact, I rarely wear nail polish, but I’ve been wearing this the past couple of weeks….

Good morning. I’m wearing By Kilian Intoxicated. Not sure I have a strong desire for it, given the price, but I wouldn’t say no to a gift of it. Coffee, cardamom, patchouli. Nice, but probably a bit too heavy for our Houston heat. Everyone is freaking out here about a possible storm headed our way down in the Gulf… only a 20% chance, but people are still rebuilding and remodelling from Harvey.

Cristobal. A not-up-your-nose smokey non-sweet vanilla with a green start. Got an almost full 50mls bottle for £4, possibly because it was in an Avon box. :D

It was part of one of those mad perfume hauls where someone’s dumped their entire old collection and you’re the 1st one to happen on it. Also bought vintage minis of Ysatis, Knowing, Casmir and Revlon Intimate, in addition to a bottle of Intimate EDC. The perfume gets pretty furry at one point, but the EDC is just wonderful. All for £18 and I shouldn’t be let out after a few drinks.

Yes. I don’t see how Cristobal’s supposed to be an oriental or a gourmand though. It’s very herbal/dry on me, and definitely not sweet or ‘vanillary’. I don’t really get on with ye typical vanilla. It’s too thick – like sticking cotton wool up your nose.

Casmir now of course is thick vanilla on steroids but I used to wear it as a wee lass in the 90s so I bought it more for nostalgia than anything else.

MEM feels great today. Lavender + ylang + more good stuff, it’s just odd enough to grab my attention and make me smile. I hope my 3 ml dab sample lasts forever. I sometimes wonder what it smells like sprayed. I should make a pilgrimage to Scent Bar to find out.

I lived in San Francisco in the late 80s/early 90s and my last apartment there was near a heavenly place called Falafel King. They fried their falafel to order – hot and crisp, moist, light as air, spicy and TDF. A falafel sandwich came with hand-cut, freshly-made thick-cut fries.

I have been looking for a falafel that’s even half as delicious as those were for the last 25 years and failed. They’re usually heavy as a brick, dry, or cooked-off hours earlier and reheated. *Sad face*

I’m wearing Sylvaine Delacourt Florentina from a decant (thank you, petunia!) and it’s lovely. I wore it in very early spring and while temps aren’t much higher right now, there’s enough of a weather change to make it smell quite different. It’s light and airy, dry and sweet at the same time, with lots of powdery heliotrope.

Be well and reek on, all!

SOTD is VCA Bois d’Iris. Hard to go wrong with this one. I was lucky to pick up a BUB cheaply at Fragrancenet awhile back. Picking up my EL Tuberose Gardenia on Thursday! I think I dodged a bullet trying to order from a place called Four Seasons Products in Boca Raton. They claimed to have Keiko Mecheri Loukhoum Parfum du Soir, which I have been coveting in a major way, and which is sold out at Luckyscent and MiN NY. I couldn’t get payment to go through on PayPal or my credit card. Then found multiple reviews saying people hadn’t received what they had ordered. I will just have to wait until Luckyscent gets it back in stock and hope that it hasn’t been reformulated (the rep at Luckyscent said they had been told the packaging might be different).

In summer weather, it is similar in feel to Guerlain’s Terracotta, but there is something spicy in Mahora that I don’t recall smelling in Terracotta. It’s a dry tuberose scent that works with my chemistry.

SOTD = Tom Ford Vanille Fatale

(Sapphire, I wore this for the first time today so here’s my take on it)

Just slay me now. I managed to get a sample when a kind SA agreed to decant it into one of my own atomizers. I should have saved this for Friday. Anyway, I had reserved a split portion of this on Basenotes and it had been a longish wait…I had followed up twice and received responses; however, I want it now and may need to rescind my request.

It is a vanilla-forward perfume that reminds me of a threesome between TF Noir Pour Femme, F*cking Fabulous (minus the Tonka) and Safrant Troublant. It leans masculine, warm, incensy, spicy, courtesy of the saffron. My nose detected the coffee but not the leather. In the late drydown, I detected the sometimes pencil shavings vibe of rose. Yes, please!
