Hey, it's finally Friday! It's also World Oceans Day. (And RIP Anthony Bourdain). Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Maison Francis Kurkdian Petit Matin...just right for a summer morning in early June.
Reminder: 6/15 will be Wish List Friday...wear a fragrance that's in the top 5 of your full bottle wish list. Suggested by Katrina.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Aloha Tiara
Comptoir Sud Pacifique, for anyone who was wondering 🙂
And that is another CSP that I’ve never smelled! But you must smell like Tahiti 🙂
It’s an oldie but goodie (almost as old as me-LOL!)
Oh, I was thinking about making that one a scentbird pick. Brief review?
While I usually douse myself with most of my fragrances this one I can only do two sprays at most…it is a HUGE white floral, sweet, vanillic and coconutty…the first spray is almost overbearing but it wears down beautifully and lasts FOREVER even on my scent eating skin…the color of the juice (I decanted it from the metal canister) is a bright orange…if I am not mistaken it dates back to 1975 but seems timeless to me….I really think it is a wonderful summer evening scent…and I am grateful to have been gifted the canister.
Ahhh, okay. So if I find Terracotta and Bronze Goddess overwhelming, this one is probably not for me. Thanks!
oh goodness yes!!!!
Unless you do a tiny dab…my middle one decanted into a nonsprayer small bottle and she does one tiny dab on each wrist….
I do tiny dabs of Terracotta and Bronze Goddess and even that is usually too much 😉
Ah well then Aloha Tiara is a NO NO for you 😉
I was kind of hoping you would still be sporting Falling in Love 😉
Ha!!! I would have but I finished the bottle last night 🙂
Good morning all!
Forgot the theme today, to be honest. I’m wearing from my decant to Naja, which would honestly fit better for next week. Smells incredible though!
Top5 for summer would definitely include Un Air du Samsara, and almost what I picked today.
High five, Twin!!
triplets!
TGIF! I will go back home tonight, order food and collapse in bed after almost 2 weeks without any rest. Looking forward to a nice weekend.
I am wearing L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne, my top summer favorite perfume this year. It reminds me of long walks and vacations at the beach. Sea breezes, salty fresh water, sunny days, seaweed, sand, stones. It makes me happy and dream of relaxing times by the ocean. It won my heart. A BUB is already on my shopping list for sometime this year.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
Wow! I had been eyeballing that one because it is a French take on my eldest’s name….but I don’t blind buy 🙂 You make it sound delightful! wait for a good sale to get a BUB.
enjoy your relaxing weekend…..
Thank you! UAdB is a great perfume if you like marine notes. I will wait for the Thanksgiving or Christmas sales to get another bottle, of course if another perfume does not cross my path to make me change the order of my purchase priorities.
Your scent sounds very nice!
It is indeed really good!
Have a wonderful Friday and a restful weekend!
Than you Madtowngirl! I hope you also enjoy your weekend.
Hope you can get the rest you need and have a relaxing weekend! Glad your SOTD takes you to calm places.
Thank you Elisa P. I hope you too can be soon relaxing at home and enjoying your kitties again!
I hope you have an extremely mellow weekend. You certainly deserve it! And you smell beautiful.
Thank you Sistine! You also smell wonderful in You or Someone Like You!
Oooh, you smell lovely! That’s in my top five for sure.
Thank you Stephanie! You already know how gooooood it is! 🙂
That scent sounds amazing! Have a wonderful weekend!
It is very beachy. Not on the Coppertone side, but the smell of the ocean, sand, pebbles. Really good!. You too have a great weekend!
Finally some rest! Enjoy ????????
Finally! At least diet cokes will have a break from me 😀
Phew! Have a restful weekend!
Thank you! Enjoy your weekend too!
Enjoy a well deserved weekend of rest! You deserve it.
Thank you Jalapeno! ????
I checked your review of Petit Matin. Sounds like a really nice scent for summer.
I am in D’Orsay Tilleul. I planned to wear something minty (I always put something in minty in my top summer lists), but had an exhausting day… There was power outage yesterday from 4 pm till 1 am, so instead of working in the evening yesterday and in the morning today, I had to work all night and then in the morning – no sleep for me (but at least the work is done now.) Plus my back hurts. So I wanted something comforting and soothing. Tilleul is just right!
I hope you all have better Friday than I had so far.
I hope the rest of your day is better and you can get some rest.
Ugh! But you do smell fantastic.
That sounds awful. I hope you can relax soon and that your back recovers quickly.
Fingers crossed that you and your back can get some R & R very soon.
Good pick, Robin!
My summer favorite is Mugler Cologne. Today is the first time I’ve worn it this year.
You smell awesome. Great choice.
2nd that.
That’s a great one, and can be had for so a song.
I was checking out the kuumba oils yesterday at Whole Foods after seeing your post on them. Do you wear them as stand alone perfumes or layer them? Which are your favorites?
The only one I have (so far) is Oriental Musk. I think you could just as easily wear it alone as layer it. It makes a good base for alcohol-based perfumes that need a little extra oomph.
I’m heading to Whole Foods later today to check out others in the line (as well as the Now essential oils CM8 recommended!) so I’ll report back if I end up taking anything home 🙂
Thanks. Yes, do report back if you get anything new!
Yes, please do report back!!! I forgot to mention that the NOW Neroli is also lovely…just saying 😉 Give it at try if you see it…it is a neroli/jojoba blend that I actually use on my face as a face serum.
Neroli oil as a face serum – pure luxury!!
But it is cheap as chips when compared to other face serums 🙂
Such tragic news – again 🙁 I’ll miss Bourdain’s shows. He had a wonderful curiosity in them and adventure spirit.
I’m wearing Frederic Malle – Eau de Magnolia, which I got as a birthday gift a few years back. Unfortunately, some months after that , it spilled in my luggage on a long-haul flight and I got left with only a little, that I use only on special days. It’s definitely on the top of my summer fragrance list !
I know. It was a shock to see that first thing this morning. And both of these people had young kids — 13 and 11.
I am very sad about Anthony Bourdain, he was so smart, witty and human. He had everything to be happy, except peace of mind apparently. I feel so bad for his little girl. 🙁
I feel bad for their kids!
I feel bad for the assistant and best friend who found them.
RIP indeed. So shocking and sad. I do not really follow celebrity stuff but I love cooking. I saw him speak locally on the release of a book. Very real. There must have been a lot of pain and now for his family…
Maybe I should have worn a gourmand scent but I had already put on Tolu
As a long time waitress, his first book really rang true to me.
I meant to wear either Azurée Soleil or Fracas. It sort of didn’t quite happen. So instead I’m wearing the lovely Rivages des Syrtes. I kind of wish I didn’t enjoy it quite so much.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Yeah, it is not the bargain in that trio! But enjoy.
Assam of India. I think this is likely to be a top ten for me this summer, it’s so easy to wear. It won’t clash with the hand and forearm massage that I will get later with my manicure either. At the shop I go to, they use a green tea lotion at the end. The mini massage is my favorite part.
Shocked and saddened by the news of Anthony Bourdain this morning. My husband and I are both big fans of his show. I loved traveling vicariously to all the wonderful places that he went, and as a renowned picky eater, I was in awe that he would eat literally an-y-thing. My heart breaks for his young daughter.
Assam of India is perfect for summer! You smell great.
Assam of India! yes!
Assam is the best
Assam of India is so good and refreshing to me. I’m going through it pretty fast this spring/summer.
Cristalle today. My no. 1 summer scent every year. Hot & muggy today, so Cristalle’s perfect. Loved Bourdain. His poor little girl. Please call your local hotline for a friend in need.
You smell wonderful!
I heart Cristalle!
Me too. In Cristalle and Anthony Bourdain sentiments.
I should pull out my sample of Cristalle for the summer. Thanks for the nudge!
Another sad loss. If any good can come of these high profile suicides, I hope it’s to break the stigma and promote change in our culture.
Happy to say (and feeling so happy to be happy!) that I’m in Naja today to celebrate getting my van transformed into a real camper van vs a campervan held together with bungee cords and bubblegum!! Getting a fiberglass high top installed next month and currently talking to people about the conversion. The first is an individual whose work I’ve been following last couple of years, and the other is a conversion company in Colorado.
Nothing to do with perfume, but I AM STOKED! Running water! Electricity! Real storage and style!! Check, check, and CHECK!!????
Van conversion – nice! I’m happy for you. Bungee cords and bubblegum – what, no hamster wheels? 😉
A hamster wheel would have been the crowning touch! ????
How exciting for your van!
So happy for your van transformation! Enjoy Naja!
Congrats on your upcoming van conversion/transformation! It sounds like you will have a blast once it is all said & done.
Congratulations on the conversion. I keep thinking I’ll see you in one of the special Tiny House shows.
Congrats to you! That sounds like it will be perfect pretty soon.
That’s so exciting! I’m sure it will be more comfortable for you and your puppygirl. ????
Twins with monica404 today in Eau de Magnolia.
mmm gorgeous!
We are! 😀
Bvlgari Aslemah today.
Fun floral, not quite a Winter perfume though. It will be awesome in Spring.
Happy Friday!✌????
*Ashlemah.
Rest in Peace Mr. Bourdain.
I somehow thought after successfully battling drug addiction that he would be OK.
Wearing Goutal’s Nifeo Mio – I am a whirlwind of green citrus and fig
You smell great!
For some, it’s an everyday battle and every day that one remains alive is a victory. I’m assuming his death was drug-related though I haven’t heard any details. It does seem that drug overdoses and suicides can be difficult to parse.
Enjoy your whirlwind!
At the Beach 1966–one of my absolute summer favorites, and also the scent I wore on my honeymoon, so it smells like good memories… which is especially comforting on a day when you wake up to sad news alerts
Such a great scent, and even better if it reminds you of happy times.
You smell great! That is also a big, big summer favorite for me!
Without words about Bourdain – what a shock when I read it here first this morning.
Same, just awful.
I’m wearing You or Someone Like You today – I love it in summer. My husband thinks it smells like very fancy soap, which makes me laugh.
So sad to hear about Anthony Bourdain. I loved his travel show because he seemed so genuinely interested in learning about other people. My thoughts go out to all the people who are affected by his passing.
I love the mint in this one. I think it smells like a wild garden in the sun.
“Smells like very fancy soap” is one of my favorite perfume genres
Me too.
Me three!
great idea!
I love the mint in that scent–to me, it is very uplifting Hope that everyone has a wonderful Friday!
SotD = Terracotta Le Parfum + Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat
These two make my nose say “more, more, more.” We’re in for a long stretch of temperatures in the mid-80s F. Not too hot, but summer is here.
Will enjoy reading everyone’s choices today as I am a cologne girl at heart.
I’m re-reading Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I’ve Loved, written by Kate Bowler. Last night these lines had me in tears –
Life is so beautiful.
Life is so hard.
Depression and suicide remind me of this poem. The first time I read it I couldn’t finish because I could feel myself starting to panic. Stark, horrifying, and eerily beautiful. One of America’s best poets, and being biased, I’ll say one of the best in the world.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/genius.com/amp/Wallace-stevens-domination-of-black-annotated
What a beautiful and striking poem! Thank you.
Thank you Deva! Absolutely beautiful!
Friday at last! Thanks for all the kind comments yesterday. I am hoping for less drama today at work.
From Maison Vanille, I am in the Madagascar and Mexique ones today…
Reek on, friends.
I hope the weekend gives you respite from the crazy! Vanilla on!
Had to be Fiori di Capri for me today because it wasn’t with me the past three weeks in CA. Thankfully, I had one of my other top summer scents in OJ Frangipani.
Flight was so easy peasey….even in the middle seat (helps to be between two small women). Landed 45 min early, subway was fast. Best of all, got home in time to see the Caps win the Stanley Cup! In our early dating years, my husband had partial season tickets for the Caps, so I was at a lot of games back in the day (including one infamous triple OT playoff game.) Still have my jacket. Long time coming and so happy for the fans in DC.
Very sad and shocking re Bourdain. I so admired his joy in all things food. He would try and enjoy everything. He had one show dedicated to organ meats that did not convince me, but he obviously thought it was all incredibly delicious.
what is Fiori de Capri like?
It’s a floral. Carnation being most prominent to me. But there is lily of the valley, I think p, and other florals. But it doesn’t smell sweet to me…comes off dry. And soapy. Like a wonderful soap in a nice hotel in a very bright, sunny location.
Welcome back, LizzieB. I think you brought back the sun to these here parts!
RIP Anthony Bourdain. I always thought, when watching Parts Unknown, “I wish I had his life”. Another reminder not to judge people by their exteriors and that real contentment comes from within. Very sad.
In perfume news, I’m wearing BF Monserrat which will be a favorite this summer along with CdG Lily. My bottle is already starting to dwindle (I do spray this one with abandon). On the final 4ish hour leg of our drive after stopping overnight Iin Ocean City, Maryland. The drive there was beautiful but I found the boardwalk area vaguely depressing for some reason. Looking forward to squishing my kitties later today!
Enjoy your drive and Maryland!
Thank you! We actually spent very little time in MD-it was just an overnight pit stop to break up a 12 hour drive. But I’m enjoying the drive! We’re listening to our favorite “perfect” albums. Right now it’s Fleetwood Mac Rumours.
I love road trips. Enjoy this last push.
Thanks and glad your trip back was painless. I admire that you take the train back from the airport. I haven’t done that in about 20 years!
I live two blocks from the E, so if I hit it right, I think my ride home is only 15 minutes longer than a car. (My stop also has escalators….) And I avoid feeling kind of carsick…
Ah, that makes sense. We also have a car that can’t sit on the street, so we kind of have to drive it.
Rumours….that takes me back.
When we lived in Greece, every weekend we would pack up the yellow VW bus and head out all over the country.
We had a cassette player and I can see a much younger version of myself rewinding that tape over and over when it would get stuck. Such carefree days. I can smell the pine trees now for retsina.
Bittersweet. Thanks for sharing and squish those kitties!
Fabulous memory! I’ll close my eyes and pretend I’m in Greece and not NJ, lol.
Great memory!
That’s a great album and super fun to sing to! Safe travels on your last leg.
Wonder why the boardwalk in Ocean City wasn’t appealing? I’ve only been there once, in the off season, so I haven’t seen it at the height of summer. (I enjoy the beach in the off seasons, though.) Enjoy cuddling your kitties tonight!
Welcome back and squeeze the stuffing out of those cats!
I so much enjoyed watching Bourdain. I will really miss his wit and his snark.
Today I am wearing Sud Magnolia. This week I’ve tried to stay away from my go-to citruses and eaus, and wear more floral summer favorites. This is one of my favorites.
You smell lovely!
The heck with summer. I wore Knize Ten both pre- and post-shower (which I almost never do — I usually switch it up, for variety) because I wanted to smell like really expensive leather.
Sometimes you just have to press repeat! ✌????
I’m finally participating in the CM, in Neroli & Basil. It feels fresh and clean in a natural way. No dryer sheet here.
Nice!
I’m in Grandiflora Queen of the Night. This is definitely my number one, top-choice summer perfume for the year. It’s like golden afternoon light streaming into a greenhouse full of flowers for me and I love it. This is one of those scents that works better the warmer it is, in my experience. It’s more expansive and a little sultrier in the heat. I’ve been tightening my belt for a few weeks so I could splurge on a FB and it should get here soon 😀
I made a top five list just for my own enjoyment, so here it is
5) Guerlain AquaAllegoria Herba Fresca
4) Florida water that’s kept in the fridge and splashed on cold
3) Eight&Bob Memoires de Mustique (a bright and cheerful, beach-y feeling orange blossom)
2) Zoologist Macaque (green green green and somehow very cooling)
1) Grandiflora Queen of the Night
#3..I spent part of my honeymoon in Mustique. Now I am curious!
Wish I could join you, you smell great! Alas my bottle is not accessible right now.
Great list! The Eight & Bob sounds nice.
Good list! I also keep Florida Water and Jean Nate in the fridge for those super hot and overwhelming muggy days.
Yaaaas. Me too! Both are fantastic..
Twins!
Queen of the Night is my SotEvening. 🙂
I wore Grandiflora today and my 4 year old said, whats that smell of bubble gum? I really laughed at that and convinced her it was the smell of flowers.
Myrrhe Eglantine
French Breakfast Tea
Anyone good with paint colors? I am not. Going to Home Depot later today. I want to do one accent wall in the kids room. They have an eggplant area rug and dark gray black out curtains. If anyone has an ideas for something fun let me know. Its a small room (NYC size)
Also I am going to look for a nice shade of deep blue for our bedroom for an accent wall. I already have a headache and I am not even at Home Depot yet..
Oh, the choices! I vote for the kids accent wall to be a bright pop of color- like a chartreuse or something really fun! It’s only one wall, right????
yes its only one wall!
Like this!
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Xzc7FJyQzMY/TB-iDkp7zzI/AAAAAAAABRM/vwILUPdqy5g/s1600/29651_444179038664_557808664_5463083_7384075_n.jpg
That’s perfect! Love the blend of colors.
beautiful!
I will look for something like that..thanks for taking the headache away
Painting is really tricky. I’ve picked some really bad colors in the past. My only tip is not to choose the color you want by the way it appears on a swatch. It’ll usually be 2-3x bolder on a wall. So go a couple of steps down or across, if that makes sense.
Actually, I have a 2nd tip, which is to splurge on the paint. Cheap paint looks cheap and is hard to work with – and requires more coats so you don’t end up saving $. I’ve been happy with Benjamin Moore and regretted buyig less expensive brands.
And definitely buy samples and test them first.
Seconding the “Don’t skimp on the paint” advice. Also, if you are up for a bit of extra work, get a 10 inch by 10 inch piece of something to paint your chosen colors on first. Sometimes, a larger color swatch will change how you feel about a choice.
Ditto on Benjamin Moore, and the more expensive low VOC series (Aura, I think?) is even better than their cheaper line. Paint stays vibrant longer, washes better, and goes on better.
BM also sells little jars of many of their colors so you can test on your walls.
Here’s a thought – something neutral like a light gray and use bright colored pillows to brighten the room. If chalkboard paint comes in light gray, well, let the kids have fun switching things around and they can boast to their friends that mommy lets them write on walls!
TGIF indeed. Long week …. I’m wearing Kenzo Eau d’Ete, from a mini of the original version.
Hope the weekend is worth the wait Elisa!
I started out in JHAG not a perfume, forgetting about the CP. so, added Clementine California, which works surprisingly well.
Going to the gym this morning, after a scrambled egg taco and My Morning Mate tea.
I hope everyone’s Friday goes smoothly. ????
Sounds like a perfect morning!
I am in JM Vanilla & Anise. I really like this one in warmer weather.
I love it too, you smell great!
I love that one…sad that they discontinued it.
I met my dearest friend on NST. We don’t go a day without checking on one another. I so appreciate having a close female relationship, I can’t help wonder if these people who were suffering so terribly may have lacked the safety and comfort of true friendship. The world can be so terribly isolating. SOTD from a generous present from my bestie, Hiram Green Dilettante.
Ironically it was one of his closest friends, Eric Ripert, who found Bourdain. How sad for him, to feel that his friend did not confide in him how bad he was feeling. His pain must be intense.
Clinical depression and addiction are lifelong struggles that are difficult to manage even with a strong support network. I think it’s important that we understand that they are medical conditions that exist in isolation from life circumstances, rather than being caused by them. Which is not to say that neither condition won’t improve with better circumstances, or suffer when circumstances are worse, but rather to say that people who aren’t afflicted experience the ups and downs of life quite differently.
Totally agree, very well said…
Yes, this.
I mentioned this on a late comment earlier this week that one of my uncles committed suicide. He was clinically depressed and back in the day, electro-shock treatment was called for. He went on to become a brilliant in-demand successful orthopedic surgeon, but the demons never left him. Unfortunately, he used his medical knowledge to plan and successfully manage a painlesss passing. I felt the saddest for my aunt; thank goodness she has a great support system. My grandpa was never told what happened but my uncle left him with more than enough for his care no matter how long that was.
One of my sisters had a part-time job right after college manning a suicide hotline. She quit after 3 months because she decided that she cannot be around that much negativity without it affecting her.
Kudos to those who know how to and actually deal with people in crisis.
Soooo glad it’s Friday. I’m in Philosykos and loving every minute.
I’m so saddened by Anthony Bourdain’s death. It’s actually put me in a funk this morning. Not that I know him obviously, but I did enjoy his shows so much and it hurts me to know so many people are silently suffering….
Philosykos is another summer favorite. You smell amazing.
Such sad news this week. Depression and addiction (of any kind) are never vanquished, just put into remission.
On a happier note, I’m joining in today with my fave Eau des Merveilles original. It’s actually a pretty summer-like day here. 🙂
Wishing everyone a fun weekend!
I think its especially hard when your famous..I am sure you feel really alone at times.
You smell wonderful.
????
Scent twins! It’s my perennial summer favourite and always makes me think of peeling oranges on a windy beach.
Yay! Nice image.
What makes me sad for those with addiction (and likely depression) is the loneliness.
Well put and you smell delightful. I love EdM but it lasts all of about 30 seconds on me, sadly.
Feeling blue about Bourdain, who brought so much enjoyment to others and yet was tormented by his demons. May he rest in peace.
Parfait de Rose for me today.
I am feeling blue about him as well. It’s got me in a funk this morning. I’m extremely saddened by so many people who are silently suffering.
Good morning all, and happy Friday! My SOTD is Zoologist Hummingbird. I didn’t care for it much when I first tried it, but have gone back to take it more seriously because it’s by the same perfumer who did Moth, which I love. This is VERY different from Moth, but after paying it more attention, I’m finding more in it to like, or at least admire. It’s VERY sweet and syrupy (hummingbirds drink nectar, right?) with a strong top note of apple and then flowers like honeysuckle and lilac. It’s not really “me” at all and yet there’s something very pleasant and happy about it. Perhaps not a top 10 of summer but I don’t actually have a list for that, I suppose because in Houston we have summer about 9 months of the year! to give my real list for that would take some pondering, but in recent rotation for me have been Fils de Dieu and Grandiflora, as well as Rahele and several light rose scents (Grace Coddington and FMK APOM).
Woops, it turns out I was mistaken. This is NOT done by the same perfumer as Moth (Tomoo Inaba). It’s by Shelley Waddington. Tomo Inaba created Nightingale. Now I’m also going to have to re-try that one! (Well, hummingbird, nightingale, kind of similar, right?!). I noticed a resemblance between this one and Amouage Honour Woman which I’ve always found to have a strong note of apple-pear. I’m not sure what accounts for that. The notes for that one don’t include either of those but rhubarb, and that must be what conveys that fruity element to me.
BTW, I made a strawberry smoothie this morning with some orange juice, berries, Greek yogurt, and coconut water, and it was delicious!
Ha! Your summer faves are probably like my “best perfume for a rainy day” (which by necessity is 90% of my collection 😉 ) I love Fils de Dieu in summer, but it works on rainy days, too!
Super busy day off with kids therapy meetings. Wearing Original Juicy Couture. A good one for summer. Easy to wear, smells good. Will have to catch up later.
Hope the meetings went well lillyjo!
Gardenia Batik for me today. Later, we’ll be going on a Duck Tour and going to the Boston Pops as activities that are offered during my husband’s 20th college reunion
How is newlywed life?
Happy.
Yay!!!
It’s another hot day in Poznań so this theme is just the right one to pick a suitable perfume. I’m wearing Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius which I love madly and deeply for the summer.
Sad about Bourdain, depression is difficult to deal with. It’s not a good a day so far, a filling came out and I can’t get a hold of the dental school for an appointment. Somehow the puppy gave me poison ivy on my leg and neck. I am sitting in no 19 edp.
Dawn,
Sorry your day is sucky. Hope it gets better with some calamine lotion.
Oh no! I got poison ivy once from a cat. He went outdoors and there was some near our house. I would always carry this cat around on my shoulder and he apparently sunk some claws into my back and I got it across my back–it was awful! Luckily they can treat it pretty well now with steroid shots and creams. I hope you get relief both for that and your poor tooth.
Oh my… hope you get everything calmed down… but you smell fabulous.
Oh my! Things have got to start looking up, right? Hope you get relief from both those things quickly!
Ouch! Hoping you can get relief soon.
It always seems like stressful things happen on a Friday, when No one is around to answer calls. I really hope things get better soon.
Yuck and double yuck! I hope that your day got better. Dental emergencies are the utter pits.
Smelling good but feeling sorry you got poison ivy!
Hey friends, do you remember when coin-op mentioned wanting to buy some attars from India? They’re from a company persolaise (I think) talked about in one of his videos, called Sugandhco. You know my inability to resist shiny and wonderful new scents, so I went in on some perfumes with her. As I started opening one package, called Royal Mukhallat (containing rose, sandalwood, and saffron), I was enveloped by the scent of India. It makes me sooooo happy. It’s like being back in my grandmother’s flat in Kolkata.
I also got a rose scent and a mitti attar (the scent of rain on dry earth). In addition to the attar bottles I bought, she very kindly sent me samples of the ones she got, too! Today I’m in one of those decanted attars. It’s called Sahar and is supposed to contain sandalwood and rose. On me, it opens with a not wholly disagreeable citrus toilet, but after twenty minutes, it turned into aldehydes and roses. I’m not really getting any sandalwood from it, but it’s really lovely. Awkwardly, I keep sniffing myself. I almost walked into someone because I couldn’t see them past the wrist I had shoved in my own face.
The point of my story is that coin-op is awesome, and that I don’t think I’m buying any less than I was before I decided to buy less.
So…not really adhering to the CP. But that’s ok because the weather isn’t very June-like today, anyway.
Your enthusiasm for the attar samples is really fun to read about, Koyel.
Haha, thanks 🙂 I’m very happy to share my enthusiasm!
In a bit of a funk this morning, like some others have said. I’m pretty down about Bourdain and overall just haven’t had the most fun week. Like Erin, I found out about Bourdain’s death when I checked in here. I don’t read the news in the morning, just a little email catch up and NST before I leave for work. I’m glad I did find out before I came to work though.
Wearing Jour d’Hermes Absolu, which very well might be a spring and summer favorite. It bothered my coworker the one time I wore it to work before (I think it was the peppery aspect), so making use of my last day by myself in our office.
Also in a funk, for the same reason. I remember watching “A Cook’s Tour” way back when, and enjoying Mr. Bourdain’s rather singular take on his travels.
SOTD FM Dans Tes Bras. I had forgotten to check this week’s theme, but a salty embrace is sort of on theme, yes?
I feel gutted. Anthony was so viscerally alive, curious and charming. His book and show were comforting escapes during the years in grad school when i was alone and struggling. May he rest in peace, free from his demons.
Beautiful perfume name, and fragrance, a classic. and lovely words.
SOTD = Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue
Love! I smell of minerals and salt and sheet woods.
R.I.P. Anthony Bordain. I thought someone was joking with me this morning. Anyway, where I work, different sections of the floor are named after celebrities born in NJ and, where I sit is the Anthony Bordain neighborhood. We have to decide whether or not to keep the name (my vote is No) and if there’s a change, there’s a ripple effect to signage, etc.
Commuting Woes 433?
– at Penn Station, there are overhead signs and monitors with platform info from which trains depart. The large waiting area was not even very crowded but this guy decided it was OK to plant himself in front of a monitor and blocked everyone’s view!
– Subway / PATH etiquette is rarer than a unicorn. I was on the platform when a train showed up. The lucky ones had positioned themselves by a door. I was a little off to the right of the door and another woman was even further away, although she was already waiting when I got to my spot. Normally, those closest to the door board first. I was waiting for my turn to board when the woman to my right barged in ahead of me and lightly bumped into me with her bags thinking. It wasn’t even that crowded and I’m pretty sure she would have gotten a seat. It just so happened I did not want one but if I were to be targeting a seat and had known her intentions, I would have positioned my full back towards her so it would take more of an effort for her to do what she did. Had I been pissed off, I would either stand in front of her seat or sit next to her and fidget all the way to my stop.
Freebies – US. only – open to anyone who had not dibbed on anything in the Freebiemeet that opened last Saturday. The package will consist of a subset (perfume and non-perfume) of the GWP I got yesterday from my foray into Saks Beauty on 2 yesterday. I’ll pack them inside a new zip pouch from another GWP. If interested, dibs in a comment here and send me an email, including your NST username. Good luck. (Not responsible for lost or stolen package.)
I’ll call dibs on this, please, if no one else has beat me to it!
And sorry for the latest commuting misadventures. We have the opposite problem in Houston–cars, traffic, crazy lane-changers, people cutting you off at exits–nobody uses turn signals, ever!–I’m told it’s a “Yankee’ thing!
I recently moved from Seattle (which has its own issues with drivers – generally caused by people being too polite) to a much smaller city where the problems are like you describe – crazy lane-changers, cutting you off (not just at exits but anywhere that requires a lane change, such as turn lanes.) I’ll also add driving WAY over the speed limit, as if no one else were on the road.
I’ve chalked it up to small town drivers. I guess we’re all Yankees (?) though to be perfectly honest, I’m not even sure what that means. Northerners? Or just not southerners?
Just a year or two go, I felt that Seattle drivers were as you described. However, commuting home through South Lake Union makes me think they’re getting more like the smaller city drivers.
Oh, your commuting woes! Honestly, I don’t understand people’s rudeness sometimes. I mean, there are cases where you just know it would take far less effort to *not* be rude.???? …‘Round these parts we’ve got genuinely homicidal drivers, so that’s our daily woe…
MFK Aqua Universalis Body Cream, perfect for light summer fragrance.
TGIF. Made it thru first week at my new job.
Congrats on making it through week one!
Cheers! Hope it only gets better.
Yay on making it through the week!
Hurray for surviving the first week!
Congrats on making it through your first week!
Earlier this week, my supervisor scheduled ‘touchpoint’ meetings with everyone in our group. I’ve been at my office for over 15 years, but things have changed drastically in the last few weeks/months. I have 4 new accounts to look after, so I jokingly said that “It’s like I’m the new kid on the block” as I have to learn all new stuff, and boy, this week was a challenge.
SOTM wss Rahele, a lovely easy summer scent. Scent of the afternoon is Bee’s Bliss whuch I am applying now that Rahele has faded. I will have to read comments later.
Wow, I should have put on my glasses before posting.????
Hey, keeps our brains sharp!
I was just telling someone the other day that I thought Bourdain had really expanded a lot of people’s travel horizons, both in where to travel and how to experience that place. A loss, for sure.
SOTD is Ava Luxe Fig Leaf, such a juicy, green fig.
Cartier Baiser Vole.
My husband and I are heading to NYC for a few days, leaving tomorrow morning. We are traveling there to attend a wedding of two close friends. The wedding is on Sunday, and we are arriving early Saturday morning. I am very excited since I haven’t been to New York in about five years.
Safe travels Barqs! You will find very nice weather and temperatures here this coming week. Enjoy your visit to the Big Apple!
Enjoy your trip to NYC! Hope your journey is safe and easy.
I hope you have time to have some fun in the city and maybe check out an outer borough.
It’s overcast and cool here, so I went with Chypre Mousse. More of a spring scent than summer but so captivating in its oddness.
I am wearing Satori again today!
and again, you smell great!!
Thank you!
Beautiful!
Yes it is! 🙂
Orchid Soleil! This one was ❤️ at first sniff. It just says SUMMER!
This is what I would have worn today if we were due to have summer weather, but I wore it Wed instead. I love it a lot, and it definitely screams summer.
And if I apply lavishly, it does a pretty good job of hiding the yucky scent of self-tanner.????
Yes, it does say SUMMER! ????
Have you ever tried Mahora? It’s another one that says SUMMER!!
Yes, I have. It’s kind of a quiet scent on me, though. I find that strange, since I generally don’t have scent killing skin. But what I do smell is very beach-y.
Would you like to try it again? I get strong sillage for several hours, granted it’s two healthy squirts.????
I’d be happy to send you some! My email:

I’ve been really interested in sandalwood recently and reading up on it in relation to the South Pacific where there was a big trade from the 1820s to 1920. The problem was that it was overexploited so in Samoa, for example, the last sandalwood tree disappeared in 1991. Recently there have been programmes to reintroduce sandalwood ( for oil as well as wood) and Vanuatu has been in the news for its growing platations…where sandalwood ( a kind of parasitic tree) is grown on citrus….anyway…also big plantations in western Australia, Northern territories and Queensland ( some of these plantations are owned by Indian sandalwood companies)… So santal majuscule for me. I have to say that knowing The flight to New Caledonia, Fiji etc. is only 3 hours is very tempting…
I once owned mysore sandalwood but I have to say that my absolute favorite sandalwood was Eden Botanicals New Caledonia Sandalwood Absolute which smelled slightly different from all other sandalwoods I have tried over the years. I am fairly certain it has been out of stock for years.
The absolute was sweeter and more syrupy than their regular New Caledonia Sandalwood offerings…I just checked the Eden website and it isn’t even listed anymore…a shame, because it was outstanding as a perfume all on its own.
That’s really interesting. That’s so much for that information!
I heard about Anthony Bourdain this morning, listening to NPR on the radio. Crap.
SOTD = CK Contradiction, from my 50 mL bottle. It still has the almost metallic eucalyptus note and the orchid note that I remember from back in the day.
I remember liking Contradiction but never getting a full bottle …a long time ago it was on my to buy list -LOL! Interesting that it has a eucalyptus note…I am probably one of the few that actually enjoys the scent of eucalyptus essential oil straight up.
Eucalyptus is one of those “love-it-or-hate-it” scents, isn’t it?
Oh! you did not get anything from your sample stash today! I went thru some samples this week, but it did not make a dent to the big pile at all. I have not smell Contradiction in ages. I have to revisit it again.
Yep. I figured I’d give one of my bottles some love. ???? I had a couple other things on my “Maybe” list for today, but they didn’t smell right when I gave them an exploratory sniff this morning.
Robin, you smell lovely!
Happy World Oceans Day and Best Friends Day! (And thank goodness for both of those occurring today because, Universe, I’m incredibly unimpressed with your other work this week.????☹️)
For today’s project I’m in N°5 L’Eau. It is one of the most perfect summer scents out there, imho. I could really go for one of those giant 200ml+ bottles. [Sigh] Not gonna happen, but I’m just sayin’…
Have yourselves a happy weekend, NSTers!
Twins this week. I also love No.5 L’eau!
Yay! L’Eau is soooo good!
I’ve heard that Eric Ripert is a practicing Buddhist. Hopefully he has some methods of seeking peace, along with reaching out to his loved ones. A close friend of mine has had suicidal ideation and I am dreading the moment she finds out about this. The afternoon when we heard about Kate Spade was not a good one.
I’m home, keeping my foot elevated. If a wasp stings the bottom of your foot, keep off of it! Its common sense but I didn’t and now I’m paying for it. SOTD is Gris Clair for the comfort factor.
Yes, and I remember reading KS was very focused on Robin Williams suicide. I hope your friend gets help. Does she have a plan? If you believe she’s a danger to herself, you can call 911 with your concern. At least that way she will be evaluated, and potentially get treatment before she does something irreversible.
Happy Friday everyone!
Even though I don’t wear this alot, I’m in CB At the Beach 1966. It’s pretty much like the Coppertone scent from their suntan lotion from a looong time ago. A super great memory way back when my sister and I sat outside in the summer to get a great tan, the tunes blasting (until the parents got home from work) lol..
You are the 2nd NSTer wearing 1966 today. I think is time for me to give it some love also. So many good memories attached to this great scent.
Yes.. it’s a good one! I could easily live at the beach, no problem. ????
Although Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder is probably my favorite summer scent, it wasn’t the one I wore today. I actually wore a sample today of Clinique’s Happy. My first time wearing it and I was pleasantly surprised.
