Tuesday, and World Environment Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm having my standard cup of English Breakfast from Upton, made generally more enjoyable by a light layer of Bronze Goddess Whipped Body Creme (on my arms, not in the tea).
Reminder: on 6/8, wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Rock Climber HIC Tea Infuser with Drip Tray is about $12 at Amazon.
Wearing Philosykos in the oil roll-on this morning.
I prefer this to the EDP or EDT as I find they can go a bit shrieky on me. The oil is a smooth hum underlying my day.
Have never tried the oil, only edp. I can handle a little screech if there’s something to back it up comfort-wise.
The oil is deeper to me too. It was my 1st non-drugstore purchase, so it holds a special place in my heart
Smelling wonderful.
I love that little tea person! Today I am wearing Osmanthe Yunnan. Easy and beautiful.
I hope everyone has an excellent day!
I love the tea infuser too!
The monkey and the robot (same company) are cute too!
Last night I went to talk about Proust at Albertine (a beautiful bookstore near central park) and now I wanted to pick a scent that invokes a memory but I am too lazy to go through my sample stash
Tea is Lapsang Souchong
SOTD NO 19 Poudre
Beautiful day today..going to grab the kiddos and head outside.
Mmm, I love a smoky lapsang souchong. I wonder if I have some hidden in my pantry still….
Tea Twins! Hope you find it
Tell us more! Sounds like it would be a very interesting talk, any highlights or takeaways?
There were 2 authors there, one American one French.
I prefer the American author’s talk and the subject of her book. She wrote a book about a child who is on the autism spectrum scale, and the father gives him Swan’s Way, and he starts to believe that he is Proust and a girl he falls in love with is Odette ( I believe that is the courtesan Swann falls for? Someone correct me) It was very interesting listening to the author talk about her love of Proust and also her thoughts about what defines “normal”..
The French author talked about a friend of her that committed suicide and had studied Proust and was a specialist in Proust literature..I didn’t really understand her connection with Proust and the man she wrote about at all. It seemed more personal to her and less about Proust. For me, I always want more and more Proust! Especially when its suppose to be a lecture about Proust!
What is the name of the first book?
Kids like Us
I love Lapsang souchong, and you remind me I have to drink it more often!
I think need to haul half my tea collection over to work, because thats where I spend most of my days around tea time.
Sometimes I drink it in evening, but in the morning I just NEED coffee 🙂
Lapsang is an amazing tea..nothing is like it!
First day at my new job: I will be wearing a small spritz of VC&A Bois d’Iris for “Dutch courage.”
Have a fantastic first day !!!
Good luck!
Have a great first day! You smell beautiful!
Bon courage
Yay — hope it goes great!
Have a great day!
Knock ‘em dead! ????????
Best of luck springpansy!
Here’s to a great first day! ????
You’ve got this!
You’ll have an awesome day smelling delicious!!❤️❤️
Have a great first day! (Why does your courage need to be Dutch?)
Are you asking what the phrase Dutch courage means, or why she needs courage for the first day of work?
I’m asking about the phrase Dutch courage. I certainly understand why one might need courage on the first day in a new job!
Dutch courage usually means a stiff drink. VCA is French. I am not sure what she meant, actually, except that the fragrance made her feel strong?
Oh, I suppose VCA must be Dutch.
have a great first day!!
Have a good day! You smell lovely!
Fantastic! Hope it goes well (though 1st days are really never much fun.)
Daunting but exciting! I hope everything goes well.
Perfect scent for a first day. Good luck!
I have no idea how I missed this. I hope your first day went well! ????
I hope that your first day at work was a good one! Congrats!
I hope your day was fantastic!
I hope your first day went well!
Hope all went well and you were warmly welcomed!
Hope you had a wonderful first day!
Ha that tea strainer! I like that you undrown him as you drink, although I think it would make me drink faster – I have always worried way too much about hurting the feelings of inanimate objects.
Last night I went to Lush for hair dye and came away with the Breath of God solid I’ve been meaning to get forever, so that’s what I’m wearing today. I also smelled allllll the perfumes and they really do have some lovely and interesting stuff. (If you are ever in the Mall of America, the SA told me it is one of the few retail locations where they have them all available to sniff. They spray them on rocks so you can smell the drydown?) It was funny because we’d been in the men’s fragrance section of Nordstrom just before and commenting on how everything was nice but not surprising, then we walked into Lush and smelled Sikkim Girls and it was like we’d gone to another universe altogether.
Ah yes, they do spray their perfumes on rocks here (Eastern Europe) too – that’s what the SA did when showing me some scents from their ‘Oxford street’ collection. So quirky!
Most teas you remove the infuser before you drink, so there would be no need to rush 🙂
Mate is one of the few exceptions I can think of.
I have the same inanimate objects worry. Jerry Seinfeld does a joke about feeling bad for uneaten food, it’s funny.
I didn’t know Lush sold hair dye! What color are you trying and how well does it work?
I second these questions…
They have henna dyes – I use the Caca Noir to turn my medium brown hair into blackish-brown hair. It is not a HUGE difference but I like it. It comes as a block and you grate it into water until it is a mush, and then mush it onto your hair and leave it for a while. It is messy and smelly but I like it because it’s pretty natural looking and does not feel at all harsh on my hair. I have never used another hair dye to compare it to though!
Fun! I tried henna dyes a couple times in high school and I still remember that pungent smell.
I remember the smell too! I used henna years ago in grade/high school; the brand I used was a powder and the scent always reminded me of dried hay. I loved the results!
I don’t think I could bring myself to use a product called Caca Noir!
SOTD is Heeley Sel Marin.
Summer weather came so early this year (a bit too early for my taste). I saw blooming linden trees on May 31, while normally they start to blooming only around mid-June. :eek There are a lot of them in my town, so when you walk along the streets, there is a fresh and heady aroma of linden blossom everywhere. Love it.
You smelling fantastic! I am just waiting for warmer temps to start wearing Sel Marin again.
Thank you. I hope you do not have to wait to soon!
My SOTD is Prescriptives Calyx, that is still in wonderful shape. I love it, so cheerful and uplifting.
My tea of this morning was a very nice Assam Halmari (followed by a gazillion letters, SFTGFOP1 actually). Trying to figure out what tea to drink next.
Nothing like Calyx (the original from Prescriptives).
I’m a Calyx fan myself- how does the current Clinique version differ from the original Prescriptives version, would you say?
The current version is much more “muted”….softer and more floral to my nose. The original had a kick to it and the citrus notes on top were extraordinary. Keep in mind that the vintage version may not smell the same as you remember it smelling in the late 1980s as the citrus top notes never hold up well over the passage of time.
Mine was bought in 2009, so probably a reformulation (or two) away from the original, but it does seem to pack more of a punch than current Calyx.
Yum!
You smell great!
This is on my ebay list. I need to just get it already. I’ve not tried the Clinique version but I know the Perscriptives version is so good and so unusual. It’s so worth it!
Oh, I had a friend who wore the original Calyx. So good. I miss Prescriptives….
They had great make up.
Didn’t they, indeed. I still have a blush that was perfect for me. It has a bunch of tiny, multicolored dots of pigment you can see in the main color. I’ve mostly panned it at this point, but can’t seem to let go of it!
a Wonderful fragrance!You smell great!
Hi all!
I have a bit of a crazy story for you. I went to one of my favorite antique malls yesterday, since it was blazing hot outside. Walked in, took a right to the glass display cabinets. I was looking in the cases when I saw two weird round candlestick holders. Then I look again; they look like perfume bottles! The first one says fatice, but the second one. Aha! Tester! I requested that case open in a heartbeart, and now….
Proud owner of a full 75ml tester of Le Feu d’Issey. I was very very lucky to have tried it before from a generous perfumista, so I already knew I liked it. I’m wearing it today as a celebration, but I’m probably going to squirrel it away for special occasions.
For those who haven’t tried it, I’d describe it as 1 part Gucci Rush, 2 parts SL’s Jeux de Peau. In fact, since I own both, I’m going to try layering them this weekend.
Anyway, thanks for listening to me ramble. Have a great day!
Wow, lucky you! I’ve only had Le Feu d’Issey Light (and still miss it), but I am well aware of the iconic status of Le Feu d’Issey. Good catch.
I’d love to try the light version. The bottle looks fascinating. One day!
Oh yes! I loved the bottle too. I think I bought Light 50% for the scent and 50% for the bottle.
Actually, after writing my previous comment I went searching and snatched a 5 ml decant for a more or less reasonable price. No bottle, but at least I’ll have a bit of Le Feu d’Issey Light.
I think the original comes in the same bottle, with the weird bottom plate, but those colors look like a dream! I might have to snag a decant too. 🙂
What a find!
Thank you!
Wow! What a great find! Enjoy it!
I surely will! Thanks.
Great story
Aw, thanks! I wonder if anyone guessed what the perfume was before I said it. I was so shocked to see it.
*faints*
Good for you!
I nearly did the same. It was torture letting go of it even for the attendant to carry it to the register.
Wow, what luck!!
Right? I’m like, “Am I worthy?”
Wow! A perfumista’s dream come true. ☺
Thank you!
I have a dream like that – except it’s my local TJ Maxx and I find several still-sealed boxes of Gobin-Daude, among them Nuit de Desert. I take the perfumes home, crack the seals, immediately make 5 ml decants of all of them, and send them out into the universe to be worn daily, with joy and abandon.
Wow, those might be even rarer! Keep me in mind!
I am thinking about making a few small decants for a raffle. I’ll have to mull through the options. 🙂
STILL cannot believe we have so many crappy little niche lines coming out of the woodwork, and no Gobin Daude.
Wow! Nice find! Only suggestion is that you don’t “squirrel it away” but enjoy it each and every day you’d like to. Life is so short, and 75mls is a really good amount. Spray away!
It’s true. I went in for a second spritz after I wrote that. 🙂
What a gift! I agree, no squirreling – perfume is not for squirrels ! ????
A fair point! Thank you. 😀
Lucky you! Wear it and enjoy. Life is unpredictable.
I hear that. Thank you!
Great story and find! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much. 🙂
O la la! Good eye, Coumarin!
Thank you! Years of practice. 😉
Wowzers! That’s a near-unicorn! May you wear it in generous amounts, and always in the best of health!!
A unicorn indeed. Still pinching myself. 🙂
VERY nice find! Wear it and enjoy it!
Thank you!
Ahhhh. Back from a week of vacation, and wearing one of my favorite summertime layering combinations: Eau Claire des Merveilles over Eau des Merveilles, a truly inspired idea borrowed from Robin. Yesterday’s choice was OJ Woman, definitely a favorite but more for cooler weather.
Yay for Merveilles! You smell fabulous.
You’re smelling so awesome so far this week!
Falling in Love
Doing it, or wearing it?
LOL!!! Wearing it 🙂
thank you LIsa D for that great laugh.
🙂
Love that one! You smell great!
Thanks. I think so too 😉
From my summer favorites grab-bag I got Demeter Tomato. Perfect for our very hot, humid weather. Heat index at 108 last weekend, y’all!
One of my fave summer room sprays.
Wow! Where are you? I would looooveee 108 degrees.
Omg! ????
Awful temp! ????????
Oh no. That is too hot. Luna Green does not approve.
That’s one I’ve always wanted to try.
108 degree heat index?!?!? Yikes, and yuck!????
Finally, a sunny, beautiful day!
Wearing DS & Durga White Peacock Lily (thanks Laura).I am really enjoying this creamy lily and soapy jasmine scent. I love the saltiness of the drydown. It has put a smile on my face. Very pretty and office friendly. It has become a lemming now…
Glad that it has you smiling! I haven’t tried the scent, but “peacock” in the name gets my attention… As a child, I had neighbors who kept peacocks. Apparently people who are unused to them find their calls (i.e., screams) kind of unnerving at first, but to me, those are part of the soundscape of a childhood summer…
Cool and rainy again, not summery at all, so I’m wearing Byredo 1996.
I hear you. We are freezing in Legoland, but it feels like it is slowly warming up
SOTD = l’ombre dans l’eau (I never know which words to capitalize in this name, lol)
L’Ombre dans l’Eau, although if following French spelling one would only capitalise the first L. It’s very English to use capitals for important words in titles.
Oh, and you smell great and summery!
You smell perfect. I love that one so much.
It is so hot this week, much more so than normal. ???? I’ve doused myself in 4711 to combat it!
Quite wise.
Adorable tea infuser!
SOTD: Bottega Veneta
I’m in such a shopping mood! Some fun new things out there, hope to get away from my desk at lunch to pop in a few shops. I want color and florals!
You smell wonderful – such a classy scent
I’ve also been in a shopping mood, both in person and online. It’s been fun, but I (and my wallet) really need the mood to end soon.
SotD is Dryad
Isnt this a great, well rounded scent?!!! And it works for me in every season.
I always feel a little bit more sophisticated when I wear it haha.
I have been lemming for some summer clothing staples..
Every time I have an itch to go shopping I feel the need to tell you.
🙂
Please, do tell!
I was browsing bathing suits last weekend. So glad they are making a come back. Because I just have to face it: at my age, my body will never be bikini-ready again ????
But it makes no sense to invest much because I think I swim two times a year (that is an average). Haha.
I came to the same conclusion re: one-piece suits a couple of years ago. I rarely make outings in one, but I do like to know that the one I have is flattering and cute. (I’ve also learned that crazy prints can hide a multitude of sins 😉 ) I’m also looking for a new one as the one I’ve got stretched out and doesn’t quite fit.
Another one-piece fan here. I haven’t worn a bikini since I was in school.
Me neither. And, I mean elementary school. ????
My problem is that I expect that the more I pay for a garment (i.e., bathing suit), the better it ought to make me look!
Sadly, it just doesn’t work out that way…
Same here. I just buy a new Speedo one piece every few years and let it go at that. About $20 at Costco.
I just bought a new bathing suit, which I did not do for so long that the elastic on my old one basically rotted, ha! And dreaded going in the store but actually found so many I liked that I had a hard time picking! I may end up getting a second one.
(Also, should have guessed but boy, had no idea how expensive bathing suits had gotten! The one I really loved — but did not buy — was over $200. Holy cow.)
I only wear one piece as well!
Adorable diffuser! Makes me want to drink tea, but afraid I’m on Team Coffee for life.
Inspired by an NSTer with excellent taste yesterday, today I am in SSS Yin & Ylang.
The birds are super chirpy this morning. Hoping it’s a good omen.
It makes me so happy when the birds are chirpy in the morning. 🙂
I have fidelity in equal measure to both Team Coffee and Team Tea. Kinda like my equal fealty to Chanel and Guerlain 😀 I really look forward to my first cup of tea in the morning (which follows my first cup of coffee) while also harboring a fantasy about spending my life with a latte in my hands at all times (without going broke or becoming obese.)
Same here! I do not make coffee at home, so it’s basically tea at home, latte when out and about.
I am wearing Givenchy III again today. I have a funeral to attend today. One of my best friend’s father died last week, and the services are today.
my heart breaks for your friend. I can relate to that pain and loss.
Very sorry, Barqs. I wish for peace for you and yours today.
Ah, so sorry to hear that. My condolences to you and your friend.
My condolences to you and your friend. Losing a parent can completely upend a person’s world.
Thank you. My friend is a very kind and special person. I feel so bad for her and the family
An unexpected cool rainy day has me craving Gris Clair, which works year round imo.
I am so tired of cool rainy days — glad for you it was at least unexpected!
SSS Bees Bliss – sure wish I had than a travel spray of this.
I wish I had MORE than a travel spray . . .
I second this!
I’m drinking My Morning Mate from Teavana and wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue, from the swapmeet.
Need to take a walk, before it gets too muggy outside. I may have missed my window. ????
You smell great! Hope you’re out walking 🙂
I made it out there and walked! There was a breeze, which saved me.
Inspired by the discussion yesterday about exercising in the morning, I’m going to try to make this a habit. ????
You smell awesome. I have a decant of it from a previous NST meet and I’m draining it rapidly.
Thanks, Luna! This one really deserves all the love.
You can pick up an 8 ml mini for a song, if you need more. I bought a few of the absolues last summer, and they all decanted really easily which isn’t always the case with minis.
I have a couple of those little minis from fragnet, and you’re right – they are perfumemath free.
You smell great.
Thanks, Kelly!
That’s a good tea! I miss the Teavana at my local mall.
Me too – I’m just enjoying what little I have left. I shouldn’t whine, I truly have more tea than I know what to do with. ☕️
By Killian woman in gold… This smells sort of old-fashioned and girlish to me, I like it, but I was expecting something a little edgier
by Killian lasts and lasts..so if you don’t like it good luck scrubbing it off!
I liked it too, I think it would be better sprayed.
I liked it a lot and ended up buying a travel spray refill AND a travel spray set. I’m set for life ????
So uplifting today – in Clementine California 🙂
That is a happy scent! And it’s so nice they sell it in a small size.
30 ml in leather case is fab
I love that one…and it’s on my June perfume tray!
great
Twins! What a perfect summer-y scent!
Yay for twins power!
1) SOTD: Lemongrass body oil (Trader Joes!) with Molinard Jasmin. A trip to Hawaii without the cost.
2) That tea infuser is ADORABLE.
3) The roses on my block are blooming like crazy, and there are already ripe cherries. But the birds are beating me to them!
wait. TJ sells body oil????
Oh yes! They have a very limited selection of body care. One of the new products is lemongrass body oil. It’s a bit heavy so a small amount will soften you all over.
1 – I love TJ’s soaps, oils, and lotions. You smell fab!
2 – I KNOW, so cute! Robin is going to tip me over into crazy-tea-paraphernalia-collector territory again.
3 – I just picked a Mr. Lincoln rose and brought it into my kitchen. It smells perfect. I feel like I don’t need to wear perfume today. And yay for the birds!
Oh yes! There is nothing nicer than freshly cut roses from the bushes outside.
A rose from the garden is one of life’s simplest and most exquisite pleasures. 🙂
My precious uncle who passed a few years ago had the most beautiful rose gardens my whole life. Like the whole yard was roses, it was breathtaking. He was an educator so spent most all of his summer and weekends in his gardens. Anywhoo, the most fragrant rose he had was Mr. Lincoln. Will forever be a favorite of mine. Your kitchen smells great, I wish I could catch a sniff!
I used to have Mr. lincoln, Tropicana and Double Delight roses. Loved the heavenly scents!
oh, KellyC, thank you for sharing that story of your uncle. It touched my heart. When I was very young our next door neighbor had no front lawn, just rose bushes. She often let me choose a rose to cut and give to my mother. Such sweet, fragrant memories.
I love the Mr. Lincoln rose! My husband and I have had a bush in every yard we’ve had. We even won the fragrance category with one in a local rose show many years ago in Austin!
Just one Mr. Lincoln flower scents my entire kitchen. Amazing! You deserved that best in fragrance award. 🙂
Cherries are YUM.
They ARE. I am lucky enough to be in a area that has a lot of stone fruits, and it’s always a joy to get the first cherries of the season.
I’m curious about Molinard Jasmin. A quick word?
This is my review on Fragrantica:
Bought this while on special at Anthropologie! This is a beautiful, and very heady jasmine. At the same times there is a freshness and rosy warmth in the dry down of the scent. I w agree that this does remind one of Jasmine Rouge (will need to recheck the review of that one) but for me this is closer to Rodin’s signature scent, but with a rosier dry down. Compared to Lush’s Lust, this one is ‘cleaner’ and not as earthy- and lasts longer on skin and clothing. Expect this scent to perform beautifully in summer heat- it leaves a beautiful sillage without overwhelming.
SO- if you like Rodin’s signature scent, or Lust’s Lush, but want something a bit more elegant and fresher, please try to get your hands on this. At the bargain price I got this it was a steal; at $69 for a full bottle it is still an amazing, long lasting bargain.
Thank you for posting this! I will have to give it a try.
Not feeling the summertime vibe this AM. It is pretty cool outside right now, weather app says 55, and my wet hair is soaking my sweater as I hunch over my key board. Happily, my wrists are wafting the last dregs of some vintage Coco edt sent to me by a very generous NSTer… I’m slogging through some writing I need to do for a funder on Syrian refugees, fervently wishing that life on this lapis apple was more fair.
Twins. Didn’t read your post 1st.
You smell good. And agreed on wishing life was more fair for all….
Lapis apple–that’s a phrase I’ll definitely keep.
Repairman here this morning for dishwasher. Afraid it received last rites. Seems I’m not the only thing in this house falling apart! Cool & rainy today, which is fine for me. Taking advantage of temp & wearing Coco, one of my winter favs.
Good luck replacing your dishwasher. I went through that a few years ago. Shopping was kind of fun but the installation process was NOT fun. However, it’s good once it’s done and it all works fine.
I stayed with my sister for a couple of weeks recently, who’d just bought a new dishwasher. It’s a KitchenAid and THE nicest dishwasher I’ve ever used. With most dishwashers one has to fight it a bit (or a lot) to get awkward (or even normal-shaped) items to fit in it, right? Somehow this dishwasher just fits everything perfectly with no struggles. It also has impressively smooth motion on both top and bottom. The icing on the cake – it is the quietest dishwasher ever. You can be standing right in front of it and not know whether it’s running since it’s nearly silent.
So if you’re in the market for a new one, I’d take a look at KitchenAid. 😉
I love my KitchenAid dishwasher, too!
Best of luck in replacing your old dishwasher!
Yesterday it was summer here — SOTD was Guerlain AA Limon Verde. Today is more like spring; sunny but the heat is running. SOTD is Fazzolari Au Dela Narcisse. Funny how I don’t like Au Dela, but Au Dela Narcisse… yes!
Gotta go vote later on, it’s primary day! Should be entertaining to see who moves on to the next round. This is the first time California has tried open primaries where all contestants run against each other, regardless of party. It has led to some amusing bedfellows, where leading candidates also campaign for someone who doesn’t have a chance of winning in November; the serious candidates hope to get a November opponent whom they can properly shellack without trying.
I voted! 😀 The ballot was nuts for sure.
Ugh, yeah. We spent all of Sunday afternoon reading up on all 149341094582 candidates on that ballot. Which was probably a waste of our time because the race is really only going to be among the best financed few from the list.
I didn’t realize this was the first go-round with that system. Some parts of Washington have adopted the same though I think it’s only local races at this point.
Several of my neighbors are polling center monitors and they up and out way before the crack of dawn!
Happy World Environment Day!
It’s cool and cloudy here, so my SOTD is the supremely cozy Kuumba Made Oriental Musk.
Today’s tea: Toasted almond cookie black tea.
I discovered these little gems at Whole Foods recently. If you please, which are your favorites? Do you mix them?
i know that you did not ask me but I will chime in anyway. I discovered Kumba Made about 11 years ago and have worn many over the years. Really enjoyed their variety of musks (China, Egyptian, Tunesian, African, etc , etc ) and also the amber paste. They can definitely be layered with each other and also can be useful as a base for an alcohol perfume to be sprayed over.
Thanks, cm8! Those are going on my test list. ????
Thanks CM8 for your input! I’ve tested some here and there, but the Oriental Musk is the only one I’ve purchased. (I really wanted to like Egyptian Musk, but I seem to be almost completely anosmic). Like CM8, I think Oriental Musk works really well as a base layer to “fluff” up or extend the life of any perfume sprayed over it.
I’m in the market for a rose fragrance oil so I’m looking forward to my next trip to Whole Foods to try one out 🙂
Again, not that you asked BUT I recommend this one for all natural rose oil-
https://www.vitacost.com/now-foods-essential-oils-rose-absolute
I am certain that Whole Foods carries the NOW brand and would probably have this. I have a bottle of this rose oil at home and it smells divine…I combine it with jojoba for a face serum and have also made a solid perfume by melting 1/2 teaspoon natural beeswax (which I am also sure Whole Foods would carry) with 3ml of the oil. If you add a tad more of a carrier oil to that it gets creamier and turns into a lip balm. I made a rose patchouli lip balm for my daughter recently and she loves it….patchouli is very good for the skin.
That’s the easiest solid perfume recipe ever!! Can’t wait for my next shopping trip!
Thanks, holyneroli! So, two votes for Oriental Musk puts it on my shopping list.
Hey, I sniffed a lovely rose otto fragrance oil (it was rose otto in jojoba oil), but can’t remember the brand. We have a baby sized Whole Foods, so I’m sure you could find it at your store.
May Gray has given way to June Gloom here in San Diego, so haven’t felt much like wearing summer scents yet. But summer type fragrances are my favorite, and fake it til you make it! So I’m wearing CdG Rhubarb and it’s fantastic! Feeling summery even though it’s chilly and misty here.
Oh, I didn’t realize that was a thing down there. What is the cause?
Never smelled CdG Rhubarb but it sounds yummy and summery.
http://meteora.ucsd.edu/~iacob/ml_seasonal.html
More info than you probably wanted! We just say it’s the marine layer, and it’s worst in May & June.
It is the only time of year the weather in the rest of the US is better than it is here 😉 And the clouds often “burn off” by the afternoon, but they look pretty stuck today.
Here’s another explanation, maybe easier to read:
http://www.azfamily.com/story/35948733/the-southern-california-marine-layer-explained
Thank you! I never knew that about SD.
Thanks for the links! That was some rather interesting reading.
What used to make me crazy is you could be inland San Diego, say 10 minutes from the coast, and it was a gorgeous day so you’d get in your car and head to the beach and boom — all socked in with marine layer, and had been all along.
**whispers** I honestly love May gray and June gloom weather. The temps stay cool, and the jacaranda trees in bloom look gorgeous against the cloudy skies.
Inspired by Angela Sanders, I am wearing Mohur extrait from my precious decant. I hope another split of this one pops up in the future.
I had a horrible day at work yesterday; Everything went wrong. Today is much better!
At least you smell wonderful!
Thanks austenfan. Nice to read your comments as well!
I’m thrilled today is going better and that you smell great!
Thanks Koyel. Mohur is just gorgeous stuff.
So sorry to hear that Monday was heinous! I hope that the rest of your week is much better.
Glad that you had a much better day today. Crappy days just throw you off your game.
You smell great and I’m glad your day today was better than yesterday!
SOTD = Puredistance Opardu
If you were to ask me “Name one perfume you would describe as BEAUTIFUL,” Opardu is the first perfume that comes to mind.
I may play hooky on Thursday afternoon to check out the new Saks Beauty floor. Thanks to perfumelover67 for the nudge.
In other news, I have stopped keeping track of my SOTD other than reporting in on these threads. I lasted 3 months longer than I did last year.
I have a sample of Opardu and have so far only sniffed the vial. It does smell wonderful. I must wear it later today.
Ooh, do let me know what you think! You definitely need to be on the generous side or else it may smell like bug spray!
Well, I guess it is no surprise that I put Opardu on my wrists, waited a few minutes, sniffed, and then my eyes closed while an involuntary “ahhhh” escaped. First I got a beautiful lilac note. Lilac sometimes make me think “ugh, scented candle. This one is a winner, maybe better than En Passant. Now I’m getting gardenia and tuberose, both notes that I love. No bug spray, thankfully. Next time I try Opardu I will go bold and use up a lot of my sample. Looking forward to it!
Congrats to you for tracking at ALL! There are some very diligent people here that do excel speadsheets, too. I see a spreadsheet and automatically want to stick a fork in my eye! How do you people do it? And seriously, after you do it, WHAT do you do you do with it? I wish my brain was as organized as a spreadsheet, but it’s more like a Bouncing Betty. Ka-POW!
Yup, I am tracking in an Excel spreadsheet! I also use spreadsheets for work, so I can’t want to stick a fork in my eye at the sight of a spreadsheet. Also, I like spreadsheets. They’re really efficient ways of organizing information!
I’ll be interested to use my SOTD spreadsheet to count how many times I wore each perfume and each house. It’ll be a good way to figure out which scents I need to swap/pass on, and which ones I need to wear more of. Data collection is fun!
Tipping my invisible hat to your cerebral (and Excel) skill set. Data drives me crazy! I have to wear what I “feel” and if I haven’t felt it in a while, it’s time to say bye bye birdie. But then, I’m old and I feel like my brain is overfull much of the time. *sigh* I think I need a nap. ????
Hahaha. Well, sometimes I forget about things (or people!) I love. Haven’t you ever almost forgotten to invite a friend to something? And then when you realize you’ve forgotten to invite said friend, felt badly about it? Or what about when you forget to include a cheese in your list of favorite cheeses, even though you love it? I’d totally “feel” that cheese if I had remembered it!
No? Just me?
I love looking at data, too. This year I added a tab that automatically tracks how often I wear individual perfumes as well as tracking by house.
I keep a spreadsheet and am one of those people who see spreadsheets and gets excited ???? (yes, we exist, and my perfume spreadsheet is 1 of many I update regularly.)
I live in spreadsheets at my job and have learned more about Excel than anyone should have to know.
I am keeping up my SOTD on Excel, but may have missed a few days here and there. I like to have things organized as well. What’s cool about this is you can convert your data to a pie-chart, graph or pivot table.
At least this doesn’t feel like work????
I used Excel but my problem is (was) the discipline of recording regularly.
PLEASE play hooky on Thursday and then report back 🙂
Heh, I really don’t need to play hooky…I just need to leave earlier than my normal.
I would like to smugly mention here that my SOTD spreadsheet is still going strong! I’ve forgotten about it for up to two weeks at a time, but I’ve been able to reconstruct it using the NST SOTD posts and my memory. It’s possible I won’t make it the full year, but as I just read someone else write here on NST, hope springs eternal.
Yeah, I’ve done the reconstruction bit once too often and decided to cut my losses. Good on you for keeping up!
I agree with your opinion of Opardu. It’s in my top ten for sure. You smell amazing!
Thank you! Just now, I’m wondering who smells so good and it’s me! As unlikely as it seems, the plasticky raincoat still has traces of Parfums de Marly Delina AFTER I laundered the coat 1.5 weeks ago and the combo is fantastic!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Saks revamp when you do get there. Maybe you’ll find something irresistibly awesome too!
I am looking forward to visiting. I’m hoping there’s a deal going on!
I gave up 2.5 months ago… this after I bought a special colouring book SOTD diary and pencils to record it with. Maybe next year.
LOL! Sounds like what I would do!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles!
Thanks, SheriG, for the inspiration. I’ve got an 11:00 appointment, and I’m dawdling away the morning. Time to get a move on. Hope everyone has a terrific Tuesday.
You smell so good.
Smelling kind of amazing in Montale Vanille Absolu. ????
She-ra, I think you deserve a special award to recognize your steadfast fidelity to vanilla! A quest for “the” perfect vanilla sent me down the rabbit hole a few years ago, but I didn’t persevere onwards with joy like you have. Oh no, I found out I liked to dip into all other sorts of perfumes and had to finally admit I was quite promiscuous. Cheers to you for your loyalty and determination!
Thanks, Deva. 🙂
The vanilla obsession is kind of strange. I’ve been into perfume for a while and never was into vanilla but it’s like some part of my brain came to life over the past 6-9 months and vanilla is all I crave. I hope it continues b/c I have bought a whole bunch of vanilla centered bottles that I probably won’t use in this life or the next. 😉
Wearing Profumum Confetto on a sunny day and wafting lots of coconut. I seem to get a lot of compliments from others when I wear this one, so I guess I’m not bothering anyone with all of those sweet notes.
That sounds tempting!
Santal 33 is giving me the strength I need for the first day of summer reading at my library.
What does summer reading entail?
I think maybe it means assisting/managing hordes of children who participate in a summer reading program?
You are correct FearsMice. That and the hordes of minimally- to non-supervised children who will be there ALL DAY and not just after school.
Godspeed!
????
Aromatics Black Cherry.a Firm Winter favorite.
Received THE BEST news today!Working in theatre we still had to wear outside formal nursing uniforms.NOT anymore!!I can wear what I want and change into scrubs as usual at work.Winning.
I still love the formal uniform, that will be reserved for formal nursing activities now.
Happy Tuesday!
X
Yay for the good news! Smelling delicious!
Thank you!
Oh, btw…. I don’t know if you saw me say this yesterday, but ladybugs are a sign of good luck. You need to wish on them!
Yes I saw your comment and meant to answer, then….sleep…Time difference sucks sometimes with commenting!
I sure will remember that!
And I’ll make a wish for us all on NST on them, seeing there are a whole village on my ceiling!Haha!
X
Well, life must have something very fortunate in store for you! I will certainly take any extra wishes.
Scrubs are the best! Jealous.
Love working in “pyjamas” every day!????????????????
Congrats on being allowed to wear scrubs more often at work! That sounds like it would be much more sensible and comfortable than a formal uniform.
Heh, my company also relaxed business casual to include…JEANS, all day everyday. Bad me did not check to see if it’s applicable to all buildings…I don’t think it’s allowed at headquarters but then, I better check. In any case, I will only wear jeans on Fridays.
Trying to make it through Tuesday in No. 5 L’eau. It’s perfect in summer. Supposed to be 97 here today, but I don’t mind- Iactually love the heat, particularly since moving out here to NM. No humidity plus it always cools down nicely in the evenings.
It is a perfect one for the heat. I wore it when it was in the upper 80’s here last week. Unlike NM, that temperature here felt like living in a vat of warm clam chowder.
great choice!
Wow, you are in the frying pan already there in NM. 97 seems a little much for early June.
Twins, one day apart!
Hello, dear friends. I’ve been terribly sleepy lately, even though I’ve been spending at least 7 h in bed. I smell great, though–I’m in Tauer Incense Rose. I’m nearing the end of my decant, and I definitely need a bottle of it. It’s my second favorite Tauer, and I think it’s one of my top 10 scents of all time. I smell marvelously sparkly. I get incense, aldehydes, and cardamom from this, but aldehydes aren’t even a note for this one! Oh well, silly nose.
If you do end up buying one and want to split a few ml off, let me know. M Tauer included a scented card sprayed with IR in my last order and made me wish I’d bought a sample of it.
I’d be happy to split some of it! I’ll certainly let you know if (when) I end up buying a bottle.
A work friend dropped the news about KS today. Very sad. I guess fantastic wealth isn’t everything.
Also, regarding Incense Rose, do you get an orange tang from it? I bought a travel set and gave IR to a friend. I seem to remember an orangey vibe. It was a few years ago so I may be way off.
A bit! Kind of a creamier orange (the Internet says “clementine,” which I can definitely get behind more than “orange”). A travel spray of IR is an excellent present for a friend 🙂
I get aldehydes from Incense Rose, too! ????
You smell great! And you definitely need a bottle.
Thanks, enabler 🙂
Lazy day off for me. Weather is cooperating. Sotd is Shalimar Souffle. Also, R.I.P Kate Spade.
I just saw that about KS. Awful.
Mmmm you smell good. Awful and tragic about Kate Spade.
Souffle was a strange one for me,on my skin, but a colleague loves it and wears it regularly.
You smell GOOOOOOD!✌????
Sad news about KS.
Jealous about your lazy day off. Enjoy it! ????
Seriously, i could not have been more lazy if i tried. It’s been nice. ????
As a test, you should try. Just to see if you could, in fact, be more lazy. Science kinda demands it of you.
Lol! That sounds like homework ????
I feel like it’s extra-sad because of how determinedly cheerful her styles are 🙁
YES — that was my first thought too.
Very sad about Kate Spade.
I was shocked when I saw the headlines about Kate Spade.
A friend Vibered this. I have been using a bright bitter orange Kate Spade bag the past few months! Sad!
Spritzed a bit of Narciso edt (black cube) this a.m. About to color my hair and shower and thinking of following with Vanilla Hinoki – a summer fave that also works in any season.
Vanilla Hinoki seems to work any time of year! Lovely scent.
Back home and it’s Zero degrees with snow and hail on the ground. I had a fine time with Waterdragon testing the new Chanels…Deauville, Venise etc. they are sheer but full of body, nice orange opening. Deauville has basil which gives a slight aromatic undercurrent to the floral. Venise is more tonka and vanilla. Biarritz is spicier . All sheer and lovely, probably about two hours on my skin but only a gentle presence. Really great misting perfumes. I bought Coco Madmoiselle Intense. To me this seemed to carry the vanilla/ tonka of the Venise with a bit more weight to the floral. I’ve never worn Coco Madmoiselle so can’t compare . Dentist today…getting a filling replaced. I don’t know if dentists here are perfume friendly or not…the thought wouldn’t have crossed my mind had I not heard others here talking about it. Think I will wear Journey.
My thought is that if I have to smell their icky offices, they can smell my perfume. But they all wear those mask thingies so probably doesn’t matter either way.
Trust me, odors permeate those masks quite easily ????
Jealous of getting to test all those Chanels. None of the Exclusifs are anywhere in Arkansas. I liked the CM Intense, but not sure about getting any. My husband dislikes original CM and has said so, though he hasn’t commented when I have worn my sample of CM Intense. I may have to make a point of testing him with it.
Please give regards to Waterdragon. I’m sure she is snowed under with her new responsibilities, but she is missed. Hope she is well.
Adding to missing Waterdragon..
Thanks for the report! Venise and Biarritz sound the most appealing to me.
I’m wearing Misha today, which is the celebrity scent Mikhail Baryshnikov released in the eighties. I found it randomly at a corner store and I’m so glad I did — it’s a gorgeous peach chypre, the kind they don’t make anymore. Very classic. Hard to believe celeb scents used to smell like this.
Congrats on your lucky find! A peach chypre sounds good.
Winter is definitely here, though being a bit further north, we’re not sharing Kanuka’s snow and hail. I should be feeling inspired to wear wintry perfumes, instead I’m lingering over breakfast trying to delay the walk to work. I’m contemplating Encens Mythique d’Orient, which I love, but haven’t worn for a while.
Acqua di Parma Colonia Essenza, my favorite from the Colonia line. I haven’t worn this in a while and I was reminded how great it is!
You smell great!
Thanks! And you do too, as I’ve read about Dryad.
Busy day at work, as I’m the only one in my dept and am chained to my desk all day. Between my office mate being on vacation, my boss working remote today, another coworker taking a couple unscheduled days off for the birth of his first granddaughter, and my other coworker leading a training session all day, it’s a department of one (me)!
I’m wearing 4 generous sprays of Coven, split between the wrists and neck. I ate some delicious but heavy chilli leftovers for lunch, but I’m combating lethargy with cold brew.
Hope that your day tomorrow is a LOT less crazy than today was!
Thank you, it should be! Boss will be in and so will the new grandfather. And no training being facilitated by my other coworker.
wearing no 22 voile parfume, 6 or 8 sprays today. just right for the lovely hot june weather down here. i was going to wear dent de lait but i couldn’t find my sample, darn!
oh and i found a candle at bath and body works today that might intrigue some of y’all-summertime soda pop. notes include “lime, lemon and soda”. hope springs eternal…
Hey, that does sound good!
Robin, I’m glad that you clarified that Bronze Goddess was on you, and not in your tea! I did get a smile from that.
Back to testing samples while the weather is still cooperating. It will probably be stinking hot and humid soon enough. SOTD = FM Dans Tes Bras. This is a hard scent for me to parse… mostly what I get is “Smells good.” Can’t really tease out individual notes on this one.
I love DTB. Going to spritz some on tonight for my sote.
SOTD is Estee Lauder Tuberose Gardenia. My husband seems to like it OK and he usually doesn’t go for BWF’s. Both my sons didn’t like it. To me, it sometimes smells just like wild honeysuckle in full bloom. I don’t normally go for BWF’s at all. Trying to decide whether to go for a FB with an EL GWP that is coming up at Belk. What say you, NST?
Could I urge you to get it and wear it for my sake? 😀
Sometimes BWFs give me trouble, but Tuberose Gardenia is really lovely…
Since both you and your husband like it, go for it!
I say get it; their gwp are usually pretty good. And my local SA at the EL counter is pretty good with additional samples if you ask.
Hello, lovely NST peeps! I’ve missed you (even though I’ve tried to keep up with reading posts here and there…).
My SOTD was ELDO’s Eloge du Traitre: used up the sample (yay), enjoyed it well enough (yay), and don’t feel the need to acquire more (yay!).
Nice! It’s been a while for me since I have used up a sample.
Unless it is a special perfume, most of the time I use the sample in one single shot. That is the only way to enjoy the scent better, decide if it is good enough to get more and reduce the huge sample pile that it never seems to go down. Great that you finished Eloge du Traitre!
Friday Community Project idea for Fridays that happen to be the last day of the month, as long as it makes sense (e.g. not for December 31st):
Keep or Cull Friday – Wear a perfume you’re iffy about keeping. If you are keeping it, yeah; if you don’t like it and don’t want to give it another chance, cull it by offering it as a freebie (although offering it as a freebie is not required). If you’re culling a sample, take the opportunity to add more samples to the freebie package.
