It's Oh the Places You’ll Go Friday! (And, appropriately enough, Towel Day.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume with a place name. Thank you to Elisa for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I could easily go another week with place-name fragrances, so it was hard to pick, but this morning I did have a hankering for L'Artisan Havana Vanille (and yes, I'm ignoring the fact that they renamed it).
Reminder: on 6/1, in honor of World Milk Day (and the start of Dairy Month), wear something milky or creamy.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Creed Virgin Island Water. And it smells like a refreshing tropical cocktail.
And, Robin, did you choose the picture because of the car’s brand? A subtle link to the CP. 🙂
🙂
No, it was taken in Cuba and I liked the colors, that’s all!
Blast! Forgot my towel. Did remember the Community Project for once, though, and after considering New York, Paris, El Born (having just been there) and Boszporusz, I decided to go with a wish list place and picked Aesop Marrakech.
You smell lovely!I’ve not worn Marrakech in ages!
Great perfume!
Some day I hope we will meet in Marrakech with our towels.
And stay at the hotel where the rooms are named after Serge Lutens perfumes!
Really? If I knew about that I’d forgotten!
Definitely on the wish list! Most lovely company I can think of and we’d be prepared for anything…
Completely forgot about project today, I was stressed out, and my hand reached for Le temp d’une Fete, which cheered me immensely. I’ve just baked a carrot cake, from a National Trust recipe, the toasted walnuts, seeds including caraway seeds on the topping smell wonderful!
Just reading the description of your cake makes my mouth water!
House Twin! You and your cake both smell wonderful.
mmmm, your cake sounds delicious.
Caraway seeds and carrot cake sounds like a wonderful combination!
Wow, that’s a way more sensible response to stress than mine, which is usually to curl up in a chair and watch British Baking Show and wish I had a carrot cake.
You smelled great yesterday and I’m wishing I had a piece of your carrot cake for breakfast.
Molinard Habanita, named for Havana, Cuba. My bottle is a couple of years old and it’s a textbook lesson in how to renovate a scent for modern tastes without wrecking all the things that made it wonderful. No oakmoss, but a zippy citrus-peach opening, subdued vanilla-sugar flowers in the middle, and lots of good clean leather and cedarwood in the base. It reads very unisex and is tremendously appealing.
You smell gorgeous! Habanita is a wonderful scent.
Oh nice! I didn’t realize that was the origin of the name.
Van Cleef & Arpels California Reverie today. A dreamy perfume.
Everytime this is mentioned, my blind buy instict kicks in ????
ha!
Hello Lucasai, I’ve read the notes of this one VC&A California Reverie, and sound so appealing to me. I don’t see these at my local stores any longer and was wondering where I can purchase? if you don’t mind me asking. Thanks in advance.
I got mine from Germany when it launched but now I see it available in couple of online perfumeries here in Poland. Perhaps you can find it online too?
Pssst- Fragrancenet 75 mLs for $65 with a 30% off coupon
That’s a gorgeous one, even if it’s very fleeting on me! I used up my sample and bought another and used it up, too, but didn’t feel it was necessary to buy a bottle. Now I’m rethinking that decision.
I got a 45 ml bottle which is very pretty and more decent size than 75 ml.
Fragrancenet 75mLs $65 with a 30% off coupon
Smelling great, lucasai! I sniffed my sample of that one this morning. Beautiful.
Yes it is! 🙂
Beautiful choice! CR sings warm summer day to me. Love it!
It felt very summery here where I live today and the perfume complimented the weather.
It’s a beautiful choice (both perfume and the destination 😉 ).
Someday we’ll meet in California where you live 🙂
That’s a beautiful scent. I sprang for a FB when I had a gift certificate.
It’s definitely worth a full bottle. Actually many VC&A are. I’m dying to try new Neroli Amara.
That was my runner-up choice today. You smell beautiful!
TGIF with a long holiday weekend! We have early dismissal at work, so by 12pm, I will be out!
I am in Bond No.9 Fire Island. Perfect for my plans after work to go to the beach to have lunch and a long walk. The weekend I will be mostly with my mother.
Have a nice Friday everyone!
Enjoy your extra time today! Wishing your mom continued improvement. I think I have an untried sample of fire island. I’m going to have to go look.
Thank you Lillyjo.
Fire Island is a nice flowery suntan beachy scent. We are going to be 87 degrees today, so it fits the day perfectly. Hope you like it when you try it.
Somebody once gave me a small decant of this, which I have since lost, but I remember thinking that I quite liked it. Warm and bright and the same time.
AT the same time. Still working on my first cup of coffee.
Yay for long weekends! Enjoy it!
Thank you Laura. Enjoy your weekend too!
You smell beautiful and your plans for today sounds perfect.
Enjoy the time with your Mom.❤️
Thank you Johanob!. Looking for a quiet and restful weekend.
Have a great weekend with your mom. I hope it’s peaceful and relaxing.
Thank you Sistine! You too enjoy your weekend.
Hurray for early dismissal! Enjoy your weekend, pl67!
Thank you! You too have a woderful weekend.
We had early dismissal so I left at 5:15…I needed to finish online training which I couldn’t do at home as I couldn’t figure out how to get audible sound from my computer at home.
Hope you get some rest yourself too while you are with mom.
Thanks. You too have a nice weekend. Hope you were able to figure out the issue with audible sound.
Enjoy your long weekend! And I hope your Mom is feeling better.
Thanks for the reminder about Fire Island, I will pull out my bottle for tomorrow.
Thank you! You too enjoy the weekend. Enjoy Fire Island. Such a great perfume!
I think I’ve asked before but do you really enjoy Fire Ireland? How does it compare with other beach scents? I’ve almost pulled the trigger on a blind buy for that one several times but didn’t. I do love a good beach/tropical scent in the summer. Hope you enjoyed your walk and will enjoy the weekend with your mother!
Island, not Ireland ha!!!!
I love Fire Island. It is a beautiful flowery suntan lotion with a great sillage and longevity. Full bottle worth in my opinion. I never hesitated when I bought mine. I can compare it mainly with Bobbi Brown Beach and CB I Hate Perfume At the Beach 1966.
1966 is a straight Coppertone perfume. Great for summertime, especially on those days when I wish I could be by the ocean and I am not. BB Beach is another suntan perfume with the Coppertone note not as strong as in 1966. It has some jasmine and the saltiness makes it very delicious. Those are the suntan beachy scents that I love the most. Another one is CB I Hate Perfume Mr. Hulot’s Holiday.
There are other amazing ones that are not on the suntan side, like Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess, Guerlain Terracotta, Heeley Sel Marin, TDC Sel de Vetiver, Profumum Roma Acqua di Sale. I am an obsessed regarding beachy scents and all of the ones I mentioned make me very happy. I am a summer lover.
Oh my gosh you’re killing me! I hate I can’t find samples or decants of Fire Island, but your review alone is enough to make me pull the trigger! I love Beach and have a little decant if it. I have not tried 1966 but you’ve made me want to try that one too. I do love a good Coppertone scent. And I do love Bronze Goddess but you’ve given me more to try! Thank you so much!
I can send you a sample of Fire Island and 1966 if you are interested. My email: monica67@aol.com
Woohoo Towel Day! We named our puppy Marvin after the depressed misanthrope robot 🙂
SOTD Nicolai Cap Neroli, which is extremely lovely on this hot humid day. I can also dream about the French Riviera.
Marvin! Love it!
You smell lovely
What a cute dog name !
Do you remember the old TV advert for Ponds? Didn’t that have a line ‘ Marvin, I never dreamed you’d want to marry me!’ Never underestimate the power of face cream.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PWp22o4tw
The ad was Australian…and it’s Mervin. Classic.
I just love classic commercials.
My sotd is MK sexy Rio de Janeiro. My least favorite perfume name. I really like the perfume though. It’s supposed to have mango im it, but I don’t get any fruit. To me, it’s gardinia and honeysuckle. Starts out sharp, but gets creamy pretty fast. I’m matching it with my peach and yellow strappy maxi dress, and yellow flip flops. Kids have a half day today, I have no clue what to do with them, but we will figure something out I’m sure. Hope everyone has a great and safe weekend ????
I’ve never smelled that perfume, but it sounds like summer!Have a great weekend!
It is very summery, and happy smelling. Enjoy your weekend too!
Had to look it up as that sounds interesting – pretty bottle too! Enjoy your weekend! I have a half day but the kids don’t so me and the hubs are off to a movie shortly 😉
Enjoy the movie and time alone!
I hope that your weekend is a safe and fun one too, lillyjo!
Right back at ya, Jalapeno!
I bet you looked and smelled so cute and summery! Enjoy your weekend!
Wearing Forever New Orlreans bought by a friend, on her last trip there. Love the name. Huge gardenia & jasmine scent. Too much for me, but I’ll keep the perfume & friend!
What fun! I think that is by Bourbon French? In which case, great perfumery.
I went with Escale a Portofino (which I love) before remembering that 24, Faubourg (which I love even more) is a very specific place that would also have worked for the CP. Really glad it’s Friday at last – this week at work seems like it’s been going on forever.
You smell great. I think Escale a Portofino is an excellent scent to start a weekend.
Yay it’s Friday!!!
SOTD YSL Paris…what else could a bona fide perfumista wear on such a glorious sunny day!
Beautiful rose perfume,I am sure most of you will agree!
I have been lucky enough to visit Paris. It really is a beautiful city. This was pre-perfumista days, but I shall return to Perfume Mecca soon.
Happy Friday All!
X
YSL Paris is my favorite rose perfume I’ve ever had, although I have not had alot. It’s undeniably beautiful. Excuse my ignorance, but what time is it for you there? I always think it’s the middle of the night?
It was 4pm when I commented,it is now 17:04 in South Africa.Last minutes of sunshine!
Well that makes me feel better, because I kept wondering, when do you sleep?! Lol
Haha!Well I usually only get to comment when my day is basically over/almost bedtime, but on your side it’s still mid-morning-ish!I’m off on Fridays so had the chance to comment early today!
Twins!
But I’ve never been to Paris. 🙁
Well we both smell tres chic!!❤️❤️
You smell fantastic! I wore Paris on Tuesday and it is absolutely beautiful. One of my top favorite perfumes. Happy Friday to you too! ????
Thanks perfumelover!Hope your weekend is great as well!????✌????
Scent triplets ! We smell great !!
You smell wonderful of course!
Ineke Field notes from Paris!
Nice! Do you ever get a hint of bubblegum from it?
Not really, but now that you mention it…I can see what you’re saying. I get orange blossom and coriander the most.
You smell as if you’ve just come from that place 😉 I like this perfume and wore it yesterday.
Thanks! And you did yesterday! Like it too, it has grown on me. I have a small decant.
Hi there! I am back from a beautiful trip/vacation.
We visited Lyon and Nice (both were short stays), then stayed for a week in Corsica (in the north, in an area also known as Cap Corse). Then we took the boat to Livorno and stayed in Firenze for a few days. After Firenze we made a stop at the Lago Maggiore (italian side) and ended the trip this week with a few days in Alsace region.
We both love nature, culture and food/wine, and this trip offered the best of everything. We had a blast!
SotD, my last sprays from a Corsica Furiosa sample, in honour of my vacation / Corsica of course.
Though Corsica in spring smells like honey (because of the mix of wild flowers), wood and sea salt!
Oh and if you ever visit the Alsace region, eat at L’Alchemille In Kaysersberg. It has a well deserved Michelin star, offers a really beautiful and gorgeous dining experience, but is not crazy expensive.
I also finished off a sample of Corsica Furiosa recently – I really liked it, very energizing.
I like it a lot as well! Not sure if I need a full bottle, but I may need a new sample 🙂
I adore Kaysersberg, one of my favourite towns in Alsace. Your trip sounds wonderful. I spent a couple of days in Nice this winter and really enjoyed it. Gorgeous city and beautiful countryside around it. I noticed the ferry to Corsica leaving Nice’s old harbour.
Oh I so agree, Kaysersberg is one of the most charming towns in that region!
And Domaine Weinbach is one of our favourite wineries, so we paid them a visit as well.
I’m ready a book that has bits in Corsica. Between that and your visit, it’s gone in the list of places that are of interest.
Interesting….before I left i did a quick scan for stories/novels situated in Corsica but could not find anything that quickly.
Is it fiction or non fiction?
Honey, wood and sea salt sound like awesome notes for a perfume!
HHGTTG is one of my all time favorite series of books!
Today I’m travelling to Egypt in Jardin sur le Nil.
Hope all in the U.S. have a great long weekend!
I almost wore sur le Nil today. Beautiful scent!
Me three on the almost but no cigar! You smell great Missionista.
SOTD is Parfum Satori. It’s more of an internal trip.
Hey, internal trips are some of the best trips????, if you navigate correctly.
You smell gorgeous (while it lasts 😉 ..on my skin its almost gone after 2 hours..though maybe I shouldve sprayed more…but I wanted to save some from my sample for another try)
My choice for today is Cologne al Italienne (Institut Tres Bien). It works for our project and also for the hot humid weather that continues where I live,
Oh perfect! Another one I forgot about.
Happy FriYAY! Happy Summer Vacay! And Happy Memorial Day! 🙂 Doing a happy dance….
So I was racing out the door with no time to consider my options, so I went with the first “place” that caught my eye….Wearing J. Lo Miami Glow. Never been to Miami, but it’s on my list!
Miami Glow is one of the best perfumes Jlo has done imo
You smell great!
You smell good! I have not worn Miami Glow in a long time. I need to retry my bottle.
Miami Glow is quite nice – I have a bottle as well! Enjoy your weekend!
Perfect, and you smell great!
It was a coincidence, didn’t know about the project but today I’m wearing Timbuktu!
Kismet 🙂
Hello, scent twin!
Wearing Oscar de la Renta’s Sargasso, a dry and refreshing citrus. I Googled around to learn if one could actually take a boat trip to the Sargasso Sea. Answer: yes! Also, there are many eels there.
Eels are fantastic, aren’t they? I love how their heads change shape ( becoming sleaker ) when they prepare for their ocean migration…amazing.
I know hardly anything about them! But today I learned that all European eels spawn in the Sargasso Sea.
I am wearing Isfarkand which is maybe the first time I’ve worn this sample despite having it for >5 years? Thanks, CP! I am vacillating between “Yeah I smell pretty good I guess” and “OMG I smell great”. But I definitely couldn’t compete with the smell when I walked out my front door this morning, lilac week in Minneapolis after a rainstorm.
Lilacs are in full bloom here too. They smell heavenly!
Fresh lilacs, heavenly.
I grew up in MN and I miss lilacs more than any other plant. Maybe I’ll try to grow one in a pot.
I also live in Minneapolis, and the lilacs are so arresting. I have resorted to walking down alleys with a scissors to cut the lilacs that grow over other people’s fences. I love them. Any recommendations on perfumes that capture the scent of lilacs?
FM En Passant!
Pacifica French Lilac.
Desarmant from Parfumerie Moderne
Lilacs and Heliotrope from Soivohle.
Nice blog!
Ooh, I miss that so much! Spring in Minneapolis is amazing.
Arielle Shoshana for me today- since the perfume is named for the boutique, I think it fits the project.
Totally!
Aw yeah!
I’m trying another new to me sample, sent by a generous NSTer. I’m wearing Bond no.9 Saks Fifth Avenue for Her. Very much a tuberose forward scent. Almost on the verge of too much, but doesn’t quite cross that line. A little goes a long way.
SotD = Cologne du 68
Named for Guerlain’s address at 68, avenue des Champs-Elysées, and the label on the bottle lists 68 fragrance notes. It makes me very happy.
I didn’t panic, and I have my towel. This is not, however, an ideal Universe.
Enjoy your Friday, perfumed people!
Scent twins! You smell fab!
We do smell mighty nice. 😉
PDN’s New York Intense. I know it gets a bad rep compared to the original, but I rather like it.
(And yes, I have a towel in my bag. Not *just* because I’m a great big nerd. True story: I once made coffee for Douglas Adams, and he was extremely polite. And tall.)
!!!! Wow. How did you know it was him?? Did you manage to act normal around him?
I’d seen his picture all over the place–he was pretty recognisable. I managed to not drop the coffee (or cake), while mumbling something dorky and fan-girly at him. (I worked in a cafe at the museum of modern art while I was a student.)
How cool!!
Wearing Monserrat for the beginning of a busy weekend. I have a wedding tonight, a graduation party tomorrow, and tickets to see Hamilton for Sunday. Unfortunately, I will have to be back at work Monday. Happy weekend, everyone!
You smell great! I almost chose that yesterday.
Have fun! Your coming days sound very nice!
YAY! What a great-sounding weekend. Enjoy all of those!
Sounds like fun! And you’re smelling great today????
Wow, sounds like lots of good times are in store!
Balenciaga Paris today!
You smell beautiful. I love that bottle too. Have you ever smelled the greenish bottle? ( i forget the name)
Thank you! I smelled it years ago, but can’t remember anything about it.????
I liked that one better than Paris. It was the Balenciaga L’Essence.
Nice!
After seeing an NSTer choose it yesterday, I’m in Hermès 24 Fauborg today. When I first got a sample of it, I thought it was a little too elegant/classy for me, but it’s quickly become one of my favorites!
Smelling Wonderful!
That photo takes me back to Miami Vice. The way, way back, which is a great to visit occasionally. ????
Visit? I still live there, lol
Paris YSL, it was a toss between this and PdN New York, Paris won, as we’ll always have Paris…
Perfect choice,Triplet!!????????????????
I think Paris would get my vote too. Have a good weekend !
My SOTM is Caldey Island–as I am off to one of modern day’s medical indignities this AM–the dreaded mammogram. I needed something undetectable in an hour. Cheering me up was that my husband reminded me last night that a billion years ago I bought tickets to Paul Simon’s Farewell concert, which is tonight. So despite life’s many set backs–from the expensive (cheap kitchen cabinet tried to make a bid for freedom last night so we have piles of cans and jars now all over our dining-room table) to the worrisome (doctor scheduled yet another brain and spine MRI for my son)–I AM GOING TO HEAR PAUL SIMON IN CONCERT TONIGHT~ !!!
Lest you doubt that he is among the greatest song writers ever, I leave you with this sweet favorite love story:
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war
Returned to their hotel suite and they unlocked the door
Easily losing their evening clothes
They dance by the light of the moon
To The Penguins
The Moonglows
The Orioles
and The Five Satins
The deep forbidden music they’d been longing for
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war
Were strolling down Christopher Street
When they stopped in a men’s store
With all of the mannequins dressed in the style
That brought tears to their
Immigrant eyes
Just like The Penguins
The Moonglows
The Orioles
and The Five Satins
The easy stream of laughter flowing through the air
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog apres la guerre
Side by side they fell asleep
Decades gliding by like Indians
Time is cheap
When they wake up they will find
All their personal belongings
Have intertwined
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war
Were dining with the power elite
And they looked in their bedroom drawer
And what do you think they have hidden away
In the cabinet cold of their hearts?
The Penguins
The Moonglows
The Orioles
and The Five Satins
For now and ever after
As it was before
Rene and Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war
Enjoy the concert! And I hope the doctors scheduling another MRI are just overly cautious.
Mammograms are just no fun at all! Good luck and enjoy the concert!
Sorry for all the yucky stuff, and good wishes for your son. Enjoy the heck out of the concert. Paul Simon is a masterful songwriter/ musician / performer.
Hope that tests for you and your son come up fine. Enjoy the concert! You deserve it!
What a sweet song. And what a sweet man is Paul Simon. I know what I’ll be listening to in the sun today in a slick of Bronza Goddess. Crossing my fingers …
My son rolled his eyes at the first notes of Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes in the car… Whaaahaaaahaaaa…. I took him to Hans Solo as he had to come with me the Dr. this AM and he had the day off. I popped int Sephora and doused myself (apparently!) in Versace Dylan Blue for Women. I smell like a riot of expensive shampoo. (Flick is fine. If you are not a die hard Star Wars fan, you can probably skip this one.)
I am sooo envious of your concert tickets, wish I could go. Have a wonderful time!
I managed to get through an Obgyn appointment unscathed this morning, hope yours went well.
Yay for us!!! Our hospital is part of some massive cancer study they talked me into joining, so I had some blood drawn as well. La di da for fun fun fun!
(You know, I missed Prince’s concert when he was in town, something I keep kicking myself about. An unlikely duo, except both Paul and Prince are indelibly a part of the sound track of my life. )
Thanks for the Paul Simon memories. It’s good to be reminded of his songs. Here’s something I stumbled on recently, Prince sings Nothing Compares 2 U
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpGA0azFdCs
I forgot he wrote it.
Best of luck today and enjoy your evening. Great way to end a day.
I saw Paul Simon last week here in Portland. He tells the story of how he wrote “Rene and Georgette” during the concert. It’s a wonderful show and I’m sure you’ll have a great time.
Oh good. That means he will probably sing it!
Have a great time at the concert, and I hope the scan goes well for your son.
Best of luck with all the tests, dignified and undignified!
I’m amongst those who admire his talent and would love to see him live someday…
I love Paul Simon! I hope you have a wonderful time at the concert and are able to forget everything the universe has been throwing at you for a few hours. My favorite Paul Simon song is Kodachrome – we use to sing it at top volume on family roadtrips.
That is a great car song! Like Oh Cecilia! (Maybe Cecilia is not as family friendly–but, I was singing along to my heart’s content long before I really understood the words.)
Best wishes in dealing with all the aggro. Enjoy your concert tonight!
Chiming in late…hope all went well and the concert fabulous!
Paestum Rose! I am dreaming of sunny Italy and ancient Greek ruins here in cold, grey, wet Northern California. Towel day will be commemorated by my wiping up muddy dog prints, but whoo-hoo for the long weekend!
I really like that one! I never see it mentioned here. I only tried it once years ago, but it was such a unique rose journey.
(It HAS been dreadfully cold up here, hasn’t it? I read it will get warmer in a few days.)
Oh, I hope it gets warmer. I wouldn’t mind at all if it were February, but it’s depressing for the end of May.
That is such a beautiful scent, and one of the first to show me that I could love a rose perfume.
YSL Paris
Happy Friday!
Another I meant to get to this week…
In Seville a l’aube, which works surprisingly well for this unseasonal rainy and cool day. It smells comforting. Came home from dropping off kids at school to a day old email from my younger daughter’s teacher: she had a big project due (for all CA residents – the Mission essay) two weeks ago and has not handed in a thing, despite reminders and extra work time during recess. Bad mom award of the year for me: I was completely unaware of any essay being due at all. Teacher sounded super frustrated. Very last deadline was today. Report card will be terrible, according to teacher. Feeling a bit frustrated, even though I know of course this is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
She should have emailed you a week ago if she expected you to be able to do anything. But you are quite right to look at the big perspective.
Well, it turns out I had to pick up daughter early from school because she wasn’t feeling well and I made her do the report from home, sitting across from me at the kitchen table. What I don’t get it is that these are google docs, so the teacher technically had plenty of time to notice the lack of progress. But – lots of kids in the class, end of the year, etc. etc. Anyway – let’s see if we can redeem ourselves!
Twins – also in L’Artisan Havana Vanille! Just a spritz, as it’s going to warm up today, and I think of this as more of a winter scent.
Hey twin! I do too, and I did wear it very lightly this morning and put some citrus right over it in the afternoon.
Wish I had a towel. It’s warm and after my unairconditioned commute and a decent amount of walking, stair climbing, I’m a sweaty mess.
Opted out of the CP as CdG Lily was calling me since its citrusy, green sharpness cuts through the heat. TGILONGWEEKEND!!
Perfect, except for the una/c commute! Have a great weekend.
I was trying to get creative and find a place that may have gone unmentioned this week, and I was flipping through a container of decants (as one would flip through books ????), when I found my winner: Tokyomilk Honey and the MOON! Also, just realized I get double points for the brand name. It’s a slightly cooler cloudy day, so I think the perfume pairs perfectly.
A busy 3 day weekend ahead… dinner and a movie tonight and a quick grocery store run plus maybe a visit to an ice cream shop. Tomorrow is brunch with my love and a friend and then shopping REI’s anniversary sale. Sunday I’ll be working my part time job and then maybe swinging by a couple stores to make returns and am planning to go to another movie that night. The Seattle International Film Festival is going on right now. Monday, eating out for brunch and swinging by a local boutique to buy some clothes with a generous coupon they sent me. I’m exhausted just thinking about it all!
I had a bottle of that – you smell great!
Perfect — double points! Maybe triple points for leaving the planet.
I was torn between perfume I wanted to wear for the place I didn’t want to go to (Bombay Bling) and perfume that I didn’t mind wearing for the place I didn’t mind going to (Champs Elysees). I almost went to (strike “to”) with Clementine California (like perfume, love living here), but decided to be adventurous and Bombay Bling it is. Besides, it reminds me of my trips to Hawaii, to where I really want to go again.
Have a good weekend everybody!
I briefly considered Bombay Bling!
Wearing Chanel Cuir de Ruisse Parfum thanks to a great split with a fellow NSTer.
Not quite as cold as Mother Russia, but I do have the furnace on.
Hopefully you escaped the snowstorm that poor Newfoundland got.
Parfumerie Generale “Indochine”.
Notes are benzoin, pepper, honey, cardamom, sandalwood and woody notes.
Fits the project theme perfectly but it’s a complete fluke. :^D
That sounds like something I should add to the “Must sniff” list.
Wearing Kyoto today for a busy day.
Hope the day went by smoothly — you did smell great !
Dior La Colle Noire. Unaware of the story behind the scent, when I first heard the name I thought, Why would they name a scent Black Glue? But in fact La Colle Noire is a château in France. 🙂
Does it smell good?
I like it. It’s a fresh rose with a bit of sharpness on the opening. It wears well in the heat.
Wearing Baiser de Russie from a split as I prepare to head to various financial institutions with the necessary documents to take over accounts…. Hard day yesterday. My oldest sister will be coming over and will likely be disappointed at the lack of progress by my other sister and me looking at the junk she has piled up in the garage. It’s junk! Nothing I want…either toss it or donate it. (My dad had a tendency to keep even broken stuff….anyone want some golf clubs from the 1960s???)
Surprisingly cool and overcast for this time of year. It was interesting to watch fog rolling in over the local mountain last night…I’ve never seen that before.
Good luck with your day dealing with institutions and clutter. I hope it goes smoothly.
Thanks. I am chuckling that, even at this age, we are still slightly scared of our oldest sister….
Thinking of you – this is such a hard time.
I’m so sorry – I’m going throughthe comments backwards so I didn’t see this one first – dealing with all of the details is a job in and of itself, on top of one’s emotions. I wish you a lot of strength and peace
Hang in there, LizzieB. I’m sorry it’s hard. You’re not alone.
When I helped my mother and uncle clean out my grandad’s home, we almost fainted when we opened the garage door. It was packed to the rafters with stuff. Among the many curiosities and multiples of off things, we found 19 brooms – NINETEEN brooms. It was crazy-making but it also made us smile a bit.
I know just what you mean by being surprised at what some loved ones kept as possessions.
Back home after 3 weeks away and now facing tons of rain ☔ from an early tropical storm. Boo ????.
I looked through my collection this morning and realized I had plenty of choices for this project. Almost went with I’m Jardin sure me Nil, but instead,
I’m twins with Koenigsberg in the always wonderful Indochine.
Stay safe and dry, Aparatchick!
http://stories.anmm.gov.au/shackleton/stranded-on-elephant-island/
Wearing Kenzo Elelphant , possibly the most mismatched scent for my location, Elephant Island, but it’s such a great story I couldn’t resist. During Shackleton’s 1914-16 Antarctic Endurance expedition his ship got caught and stuck in sea ice. The men lived nine months on sea ice , based on the ship , but then the ship itself got crushed and sank. The men spent a further 5 months living on the ice floe with only tents and life rafts for shelter. When the ice began to melt, they realised they had to rescue themselves and set out in their life rafts and spent a month at sea before reaching Elephant island, a desolate lump in the southern ocean. Shackleton then left 21 men on the island ( they lived in their upturned life rafts) and with 6 crew set out for the whaling station on South Georgia. He Reached the island a month later, but landed on the wrong side and had to climb over a mountain to find the station. He then got a Chilean sailing boat to take him back to Elephant Island where he rescued the men. No one died during the whole expedition.
People are amazing – it’s seems utterly impossible that people could survive in those kind of conditions.
I’ve always had a weird yearning for Antarctica, having grown up on the stories of the different early expeditions, and reading things like “The worst journey in the world” at an impressionable age .
And I have had the *biggest* crush on Shackleton since I first heard about him.
Super interesting article in the New Yorker about perhaps the world’s biggest Shackleton admirer and his trips to recreate part of the journey:
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/02/12/the-white-darkness
Isn’t that a fascinating story. Thank you!
thank you for that link. I had listened to some of his broadcasts–and it’s great to read the story.
I camped out next to Shackleton’s hut at Cape Royds for a couple of nights ( as part of a NZ artist in residence programme). His hut had a really good feeling about it, it was very cold inside but it was a friendly place, quite an open living quarter unlike Scott’s Cape Evans hut. Cape royds has a huge colony of Adelie penguins so it feels full of life and noise. Really beautiful black and white landscape, volcanic rock and cool basalt formations.

You are *beyond* fabulous.
I am trying not to die of envy right now–or shake you down for EVERY story. (I really wanted to apply for one of the British programs, but wouldn’t have been able to pass the medical).
Wow, thank you for sharing!
PSA to NYC folks….Sniffa has a thing at New London Pharmacy on Tuesday evening featuring Nicolai scents. 20% off… wish I could go….
What did you think of the wedding??? Tell me everything
It’s the end of MAY, y’all, and we’ve been stuck in the fog for a week. We’ve been getting only a couple of hours of sun each day… yesterday, none; and today, rain! WHAT??? And chilly of course. Husband just started a fire in the wood stove.
SOTD is CBIHP Black March, ’cause that is surely what it feels like in these parts.
Sounds like we’re weather twins. Ugh.
Sounds sort of normal for the standard May Grey weather, no? But I hate any prolonged greyness. My sympathies.
No, not normal. We are far enough south of SF and high enough up the mountain that we’re normally above the morning fog by this time of the year. Typically we are in warm bright sun even first thing in the morning. I commonly forget to take a jacket when I head into the valley because it’s too warm to need one at home.
But not this week!
Crazy weather! I hope it passes and you have a nice memorial day weekend
Twins with Glannys today in Virgin Island Water. Might be a little too cool for it today, though.
Hi twin!
I guess I am luckier than you – it’s warm and sunny here today.
But I admit that I am jealous of your cool weather.
I want rain and cold next week – perfect for milky and creamy scents (next week’s CP).
Sampling Poets of Berlin today. I like it but today might be a little too warm for it
SOTD for today is Bond No 9’s Eau de New York, my favorite city (and home town).
Wishing all a very happy Friday and Holiday weekend, please be safe on the roads out there! Traffic is already a doozie out here in SF!
My noon news had mentioned that some large cities were going to see anywhere from 2x to 3x normal traffic volume this afternoon. I’m glad that I’m staying put this weekend!
Me too!
SOTD is parfum de Nicolai New York. Sitting at my coffee shop sniffing my wrists and planning all the places I’m going to travel to this fall when I have a break from work.
I love this one, you smell great!
Where do you want to go?
Love your SOTD, New York is one of the best.
SOTD is Glacialis Terra, because…the earth is a place! That works, right?
I’m about to embark on my long weekend of outdoorsy, romantic fun up in Tomales Bay in northern California! Not sure if I mentioned–this is our fifth anniversary trip. It’s about eleven months late. Is this what it means to be in a relationship that is no longer young? I’m just pleased we’ve managed to squeeze it in before our sixth anniversary arrives.
I’m SUPER DUPER excited not just about our trip but also about the fact that Laurie Erickson finally wrote me back!!! I wrote her in late morning on 12 Jan, according to the e-mail time stamp, and had pretty much given up hope, but keep the faith, those of you who are still waiting on a response: she may still get to you! I’m getting almost all the things I asked for (she had already run out of a lot of things by the time I made my request). It’s going to be a huge purchase for me, which is bad because I was hoping to go into a new no-buy, but I can’t not buy the SSS scents I’ve been pining after all this time. Anyway, I’m really pleased about this.
Now to figure out how to pay by paper check. I’m sure I’ve got a check book somewhere, right?
Enjoy your trip and your anniversary perfumes 🙂 What did you actually get?
Oh good heavens, let’s see: Tabac Aurea, Fireside Intense, Equestrian, Forest Walk, Nostalgie, Yin and Ylang, Pacific Forest, Voile de Violette, and Velvet Rose. A number of those are just 5 ml, then a few 10 ml, a couple 17, and one 34 🙂 Like I said, quite a big order, both in volume and price.
No incence pure?
Nah, that one gave me a headache 🙁
Wow! She making them or they leftovers? That’s amazing of her and lucky for you! Have a fun weekend!
Yes, I got an email from her a few weeks ago too! I managed to get some Tabac Aurea, Fireside Intense, Yin & Ylang and Forest Walk.
I had given up hope so I was pleasantly surprised to hear from her.
Yay! Your trip sounds so fun, hope you guys really enjoy it – so happy you heard from Laurie! Enjoy your trip and perfumes ????
Wow, you hit the jackpot with the SSS perfumes! I recall that you were rather upset about the possibility of missing out entirely on them.
It’s Towel Day, and I’m seeing ‘Solo’ today! My poor nerd brain is ????
For today’s project I’m wafting 31 Rue Cambon. (I mean, really, what else was I gonna go with?!?)
Don’t panic! Have a great Friday. May the Force be with you!
I wore this on Wednesday while out gallivanting in NYC with some Newark Museum members!
Which means you were gallivanting gorgeously!! ????
Two steps forward, one step back. Just when we were making headway with stuff around the house, the clothes washer decides to go on the fritz. So I have a trip to the Laundromat in my future. Also have to call a repairman.
SOTD = Timbuktu, from the sample stash. Oh, this is so good! And perfect for today’s summer-y weather. Might have to wear it again tomorrow.
You smell fantastic! I am amazed by the amount of samples you have and how good you are at using them. I need to become more serious about using mine, that in reality are not as many as so other NSTers have.
I freely admit that I went berserk on the samples. Some of them were freebies from places like Sephora. But a lot of them were purchased from decanting sites when I was on a “Must smell all the things” binge. Getting to places were I can sniff in person takes a fair amount of advance planning and some travel.
Should also mention that several NSTers have been rather generous in sharing samples with me, too. That should have been the first thing I mentioned. ????
Ubar will be my SOTE, being named after a lost city is rather lovely, but I’ll save it for later. This morning I want to check out some perfumes a friend mentioned to me a few weeks ago – Capsule. I haven’t seen any reference to the brand, and they are stocked here by a clothing shop that I hadn’t heard of either. It’s great that obscure things are sometimes available here, but it can be a bit hard to find out about them when the stockist has nothing else perfume-related.
Oh nice, I forgot to think of it as a place name perfume!
Finally applied some perfume today, and I’ve even managed to participate in the community project – wearing SIP’s Magazine Street.
Hello New Orleans!
Yum.
I’m wearing Passage d’Enfer, one of my favorite street names ever. I chose it to cultivate a sense of peace at the end of an insane week, and to fortify myself for a one-year memorial service for a student who died far too early.
I’m starting to think I need to tattoo “Don’t Panic” on my hand and wrap a towel around myself at all times. I feel far too much like Arthur Dent lately.
I’ve never smelled your perfume, but I imagine it smells very comforting.
My new favorite mantra is “this is hard, this is normal, this will change”
I hope you enjoy the holiday weekend 🙂
Hoping that you can relax and find a few peaceful moments this weekend!
SOTD Crabtree & Evelyn Sarawak, from my pre-obsession days. It’s actually really nice! And one of the few perfumes that I have that reference a place name – does this mean I should buy a lot more perfume? Probably so…
Oh, and i participated yesterday in VCA California Reverie, but never posted
Love the new avatar!
I asked all of you for a new summer perfume & today I bought Atelier Orange Sanguine. So many of you raved about, I had to try it. Wore the test spray for an hour & rushed back to buy. Totally different from my Cristalle & NO. 19, but fresh, zesty, great for our hot days. Gone all wk-end with family, and this scent going with me. Old dogs can learn new tricks! Thanks.
Glad to hear that Orange Sanguine worked out for you! ????
I love Orange Sanguine and I’m glad you are enjoying it! Have a good weekend!
SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum
W00t! If I ever make it to Moscow, I am making a beeline for the Gum mall. It seems incongruent to spend rubles at a mall.
I fail to understand why anyone would think this is similar to Grand Soir, which I love as well. If there was anything I would change to Ciel de Gum, it would be to amp up the vanilla just a tad bit.
I know I’m late with comments on The Royal Wedding coverage — the HBO coverage was sooo bad. BBC did a decent job but “extended highlights” coverage was a bunch of crock — it was just the same 120 minutes repeated. I enjoyed the music, with Stand by Me and the cellist being the most memorable. And finally, I also enjoyed Operation Royal Wedding, a detailed look at preparations for the wedding, from making new trumpets and affixing the Royal seal, to Meghan Sparkle (chocolate with champagne and gold dust) to hand-stamped buttons for the regiment uniforms. Fabulous!
Hmm, apparently I missed ‘Operation Royal Wedding’. The pageboys and flower girls/bridesmaids were so cute I almost passed out!
I was planning to wear Assam of India for the predicted warmish day but it feels like the weather forcasters exaggerated somewhat so I wore Cuir de Russie EdP instead.
Darn late check in today; I’m enjoying PHI very much, as usual. I hope everyone had a lovely Friday! ????
I hope your Friday was good too! So sorry about your wallet!! (I didn’t see your post yesterday until very late.)
Thanks Creosote, I think we have the situation mopped up now. ????
I’m posting late but I have a good excuse–another hip dislocation, the third. Another nightmare of going to ER in middle of the night. I didn’t go back to the “bad” hospital ER and this one was much better overall. they got me on pain meds immediately and fixed the hip by early morning, i.e. got it in place. I’m still looking at surgery though (what they call a “revision”). Not fun. I’m home for now–nobody schedules major surgery over a holiday weekend, I guess.
My SOTD is Ciel de GUM which I like a lot. It’s got some nice spicy golden quality. I’ve not been to Moscow but the “sky” or “heaven’ of GUM in photos looks pretty amazing! Here’s a link to a photo:

Ouch! So sorry it happened again. I hope the revision surgery can be scheduled soon!
Oh, and we are TWINS!
Oh my goodness.. so sorry to hear about your hip. Unfortunately I can feel your pain as I had a 4x dislocated shoulder before I finally had surgery. Luckily I had an amazing surgeon that was on the Olympic team… Totally lucked into my doctor with a cancellation.
I hope you get the amazing care and attention you need.
Oh, Calypso, I’m so sorry it dislocated again. I was really hoping the brace would set it to rights. Hopefully a revision surgery will solve the problem and give you peace of mind!
Oh Calypso! I am thinking of you! Hope you have gotten some relief from the pain.
Oh Calypso! I am thinking of you! Hope you have gotten some relief from the pain.
Nothing to do with this article per se, but I was in Edinburgh last weekend & was pleased to find Harvey Nicks has upped their game a tad with regard to their perfume department, certainly compared to my last couple of visits. Still not a patch on Frasers in Glasgow, but at least they’re trying! Chuffed to see Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee au The Vert on the shelf, though, as I had though it was discontinued. Have mentioned on here before about blagging a sample, beautifully packaged, from the Bulgari shop in Sloane Street when it was first launched & wasn’t available anywhere else – couldn’t quite figure out if it’s been reformulated, though, so if anyone can tell me yes or no I’d be grateful, as I may well buy a bottle again after all these years.
