Tuesday! Plus, Iris Day and World Red Cross Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: Atelier Cologne Iris Rebelle. I am out of town, so tea this morning is bad hotel coffee.
Reminder: 5/11 will be Musk Friday...you know what to do!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
My Guerlain week
Spiritueuse Double Vanille
Cute tea pot Robin
Matcha latte
Lipstick queen red ????
That teapot is incredible.
Gorgeous. And there are more colors and shapes. I made the mistake of doing a google image search. A friendly warning to anyone who is a teapot collector (or reformed teapot addict like me): don’t go down that rabbit hole!
Argh, I meant to have a link to it, I’m so sorry!

It is available lots of other places, including Bed Bath Beyond, etc.
Beautiful! I think I’ll follow your lead.
Lipstick Queen twins! I’m in Paint the Town.
You smell gorgeous!
In LC Saint Wine!
lots of lipstick twins today!
I love a red lippy….and matcha…and Guerlain. đ
You would fit right in with me then!
As long as we don’t go shopping …our poor credit cards!
Continuing a Bruno Fazzolari week with Five.
Checking out the Met Gala Fashions. Vera Wang in her own creation was a winner for me.
I haven’t looked at the dresses yet!
You smell fab! That one’s always on my list…
I thought there was a sameness to many of the looks: there were the attention- seeking outfits ( wings, head-dress and trains), the Versaces, the warriors/joan of Arcs, and then a few beautifully crafted: Sistine chapel dress, garden of eden dress….weirdly there seemed to be an absence of soul, somehow?

Religion is a bit of a tricky theme. Being daring without being offensive. My guess is Donatella wanted to dress as many people as possible being a co chair. But Versace cuts a stunning gown. Prabal Gurung dressed quite a few women and they were all winners. Diane Kruger was STUNNING. I could ramble on for ever.
It’s also been done before. And done before, and done before.
Nothing new under the sun.
More sunshine, yay! Still a bit cool and windy though. Wearing Musc Ravageur.
My SotD yesterday- you smell great! I didnât get as much cinnamon yesterday as I did when I wore it during the winter. Interesting how scents can change.
Sounds like a good day
Anticipating Friday’s Project with Dame Perfumery New Musk Oil, which I always enjoy
I prefer the oil version to the EDP. You smell great.
Thanks! Haven’t smelled the EDP but oil feels perfect for this scent
I havenât smelled the oil, but the edp is on my list for later in the week. You smell nice!
I should try New Musk. I’ve got a sample sitting around somewhere.
I love that one! Must drag my bottle out for this week…
Wearing Prada Infusion d”oranger today.
Slightly skanky orange blossom.
Robin, bad hotel coffee has got to better than bad hotel tea! Always it is the cheapest 3 cents a bag stuff that is worse than grass clippings. even at nice places. Tea renaissance has not hit yet.
Ormonde Woman today and Tolu on the way!!! SO looking forward to it. A friend is splitting a bottle with me.
Mmm…Woman! Congrats on the split!
In a tepid defense of hotel tea, sometimes they are up to at least the Stash level. They are also more palatable if you run the coffee/tea maker a couple of times just with water…
Yes, I’ll take cheap hotel tea over bad coffee any morning.
SO true, which is why I am having coffee!
You smell great!
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 EDP, vintage.
Double-strength coffee, Italian Roast.
Gym workout, Legs/Back/cardio.
Ellis Faas 101 red.
You have got this day under control already!
????????????
Wow.. your workout and coffee is Bear ???? approved
Just looked up your lippy…that is some red! Hot!
Lovetosmellgood: I fell in love with 101 Red the moment I saw it. It’s a fabulous universal red, can be applied heavily for a dramatic look of sheer like a lip stain, it’s cruelty free too.
I have a few other colors, 102, 103, 201 – the longevity is fantastic, plus it looks so cool when you pull it out of your purse! But I doubt it’d make it through airport security! đ
…looking up these colors..
If you like to read up on the line, the NonBlonde has several writeups on the products, including swatches.
I used to use a lot of Ellis Faas cosmetics (foundation, eye colors) and can vouch for them (though they’re a bit tricky due to the packaging.) Her blushes are still my summer go-tos and I’ve repurchased almost all the shades over the years. I’ve got the 101 lipstick in my purse at all times as a fall-back. If I forget to pack a lipstick, it’s there.
Will also add that if one is in the market for long-wearing makeup, look no further than her eye colors and blush. They will easily get you through a 12-hr day without creasing, smudging, fading.
I miss Bear! đ
Me too! I hope things are ok.
Hope he is fine!
Me too!
Opardu since it was on the brain from yesterday’s comments. Wafting prettiness today.
Oh, and my new fragrant obsession is Blackbird incense cones. I haven’t burned incense in ages but they were burning it in a shop in my neighborhood and it smelled sooo good I had to buy the sampler pack. So far, Ploom (gardenia, tonka, tobacco) and Gorgo (“wood bouquet” and beeswax) are my faves. I may need full supply of these.
I bet the tobacco is great!
It’s a bit sweet, but the gardenia adds a little bit of cool to it. It’s a nice combo.
I love their incense cones too. I actually worked at Blackbird Apothecary for a month soon after I moved to Seattle. They decided to close the stores though (men’s clothes and apothecary) and move to online only. But we burned incense right outside the store to pull people in, and that was my introduction to how great their incense is. I have 10 tins of it! I have been on a candle streak lately, but I need to remember to burn incense too. I have plenty of it!
10 tins! Lucky you! What’s your favorite? I usually only use candles and stopped burning incense because it tends to embed in rugs/fabric making it linger, especially the more resinous ones, so I’m using them sparingly.
So glad you mentioned this as I am constantly drooling over their incense online, but have never ordered.
It was an impulse but, for sure. I don’t remember which one they were burning that pushed me over the edge! I’m enjoying them.
Thanks for the lemming!
I burn incense everyday, mostly Japanese brands.
Will check these out..
They’re definitely more modern smelling. They have them on Amazon FYI…
You smell so pretty.????
Why thank you, lizbee! I applied more lavishly today ????
You smell purty đ
As purty as you smelled yesterday????
In AG Songes for a very busy day at work where a beauty like this is much needed.
Busy work day twin- we can do it!????
We will survive, twin! ????
You smell good!
Thank you! ????
What a gorgeous perfume! I just got my bottle out of storage for the warm weather rotation.
It is inded such a beautiful perfume!
I remember Songes as very beautiful, but I haven’t smelled it in years. I saw it on one of the decanting sites recently, but wasn’t sure whether to try the edt or edp. I can’t remember which one I’d tried and loved. Do you know them both well enough to recommend one or the other?
The EdP is richer with more vanilla and a banana notes that amplifies the jasmine. The EdT is sharper and greener and the tiare is more pronounced, at least on me. I have the EdT now and like it more. It has that tropical flower feeling that I enjoy more.
They both sound great. Itâs probably worth trying both.
Definitely try both.
I have both, tend to wear the EDT for day and EDP for night.
Thanks for chiming in! I’m officially sold on trying both.
I love your description of it.
You smell fabulous! You can come sit next to me and forget work
Thank you! Coming over! ????
You smell great.
Thank you! ????
You smell pretty and just like vacation. Hope it takes you away, mentally at least.
I am already in an island enjoying a pina colada! ????
You are definitely wearing a tropical themed beauty today! I bet it bloomed wonderfully in today’s weather.
It blooms nicely, especially in summer time. I regret not wearing it more often.
SotD is PG Le Musc & La Peau. Iâm helping one of my colleagues with a presentation today and hoping it goes well. I am not a fan of any kind of public speaking. ????
p.s. I still have 10 ml splits of Berdoues Assam of India for 7.88. If anyone is interested, shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the land of yahooo.
Summer is coming, perfect time for Assam of India! If I didn’t already have a bottle, I would buy it all. đ
Agreed! It was too good of a deal to pass up!
I’m in my first spritzing (of the year) of FM Eau de Magnolia. LOVE. Makes me want to try other Malles, but not sure where to start. What are everyone’s favorites from that house?
Wrong time of year, perhaps, but L’Eau d’Hiver – oh, and Iris Poudre, to be on theme.
My current favorite is Carnal Flower (hate the name but it smells great).
You smell fab! Second Carnal Flower. I generally like all the florals-especially Une Rose. I didn’t like the 2 newer ones (Promise and Music for a While).
Carnal Flower and Iris Poudre are my favorites.
Lipstick Rose!!!
Portrait of a Lady
Iris Poudre
Musc Ravageur.
3 MUST try perfumes from Malle
I’ll add Une Fleur de Cassie to the list!
Ditto! My favorite FM.
Such a beauty!
Portrait of a lady, if u like dark roses and Patchouli!
Portrait of a Lady and En Passant are my favorites!
3rding or 7thing Carnal Flower. It’s pretty much a BWF mic drop.
Musc Ravageur and Parfum de ThérÚse which I know is a polarizing frag but if it works for you (and it does for me) it is the most amazing jasmine (my jasmine HG).
Thanks to everyone who chimed in! Looks like I almost canât go wrong with Malle – I can see that some fun with samples is in my future. đ
SotD = Caleche EdT from a vintage decant shared by a marvelous NST perfumista!
LOVE. THIS. STUFF.
I was woken in the wee, small hours of the morning when I heard our three pet birds shuffling about in their cages. The birds knew something was up, and a minute later the ground started to gently shake. Magnitude 4.5, so I guess mother nature is happy spring is here.
Knowing I would not go back to sleep, I caught up on my email then read Angela’s review of Caleche. I remembered the decant waiting in my high priority testing box, so I dabbed some on my wrist and arm. Swoon! Did I mention I love this perfume? The lemon and dryness remind me of my beloved Assam of India. But Assam of India is just a sip of water in comparison, Caleche is a bubbling river of fragrance.
Yikes. Glad you’re okay.
In a veritable cloud of Le Temps d’une Fete today. Must take Gaze to the eye doctor for his yearly checkup… that’ll eat up all afternoon, pretty much. Appointment will last one to one and a half hours since he has contacts as well as glasses, plus an hour’s drive each way.
In other news, I just put up a page at the blog showing which vintage minis in excellent shape I am selling there. (The less desirable ones are going straight to eBay.) I really want to find good homes for these in particular since they are in excellent shape in terms of their scent. You can’t count on that with vintage.
DANG, this is totally not where I meant to comment. Sorry.
hee hee, glad your comment landed here, it was a good reminder to visit your blog. đ
Glad youâre OK!
I tested Caleche myself last night, after reading Angelaâs review!Itâs NOT a bedtime perfume though.Itâs for a night out filled with dancing, champagne on ice and a guilded carriage to take me home.Lol.That aldehyde blast of an opening though!I did not get the tobacco note someone mentioned, but I was glad iris showed up.I could still smell it on my wrist when I got up this AM.
Thank you johanob, I am grateful that when the earth moved everything else stayed in place.
Agree! Caleche would keep me wide-eyed if worn late at night. I enjoyed it this morning and can still smell the little dabs quite well. I will spritz more later today to get the full-on whoosh of the top notes.
I didnât feel anything at all from quake.
At airport on way to spend birthday with sister.
Volutes is my travel companion today.
My son didn’t feel the quake, he slept through it.
Enjoy celebrating with your sister, and travel safely. đ
Yup, our animals know just before an earthquake hits, they get needy/clingy.
Hope you’re ok!
Snort. My useless cats just sleep thru quakes. đ
We are fine here, though the birds and I are sleepy now. Naps for everyone!
I didn’t feel anything. I’m so fascinated by the way animals know things ahead of time.
Yes, I wonder how animals do it. Our birds each go to the bottom of their house when a quake is coming.
Ahh, so you do get the lemon? I have somehow never noticed it. I’ll have to look out for it next time.
It has a crisp-starched white shirt thing going on, too, it just occurs to me. In the same category as White Linen and Rive Gauche? I don’t have access to any of the above right now, so I may be totally off track. But all lovely summer fare, to be sure.
SO MUCH LEMON, I love it. Though maybe that is because I took the sprayer off and dabbed. I will try Caleche spritzed this afternoon. If I get a different experience I will let you know. đ
Have not smelled White Linen in probably 20 years. Back then it was all nose-burning aldehydes for me. I should look for a tester bottle, I imagine it has changed. And I say yes to the Rive Gauche connection, the two scents could be cousins. đ
I’ve got some older White Linen but not much, else I’d offer some. I wore it recently, inspired by Angela’s review and vowed to make good use of it this summer.
Decades ago, when I often bought makeup at department stores, I had so many White Linen minis. I gave them away because I couldn’t wear it. I sometimes wish I had saved one, but truth be told, I think there is a chance the current version might work better for me. Noses are funny!
Yow! Glad to hear that you are OK despite the shake, rattle and roll.
thank you, Jalapeno, we are a-ok. đ
I have to pull out the vintage Caleche I got in a swap way back!
Glad you’re ok!
Sleeping Under the Stars for me today
I don’t know that perfume but the image sounds beautiful..
Iris Day, you say? I have Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue on one arm and L’Heure Exquise on the other, and they are on good terms with each other.
Ooohhh you smell good!
SL Clair de Musc – such a pretty floral musk, hopefully not too skanky for the office (unlike so many musk perfumes).
I tried it several days ago. I think it is pretty and quite office-friendly.
That is a beautiful musk!My first Lutens purchase was Clair de Musc!
I thought it smelled like sun warmed skin and a floral perfume mixed together.
Today I’m wearing Jo Malone French Lime Blossom. I’m not sure how I like it. In my car I thought it too sweet. But in the less enclosed space of my office, I’m liking it more. I am not a great fan of linden, but I haven’t had much experience with it. We’ll see how I like it. This is another of my untried samples, so one more tried.
I played sample roulette this morning and I lost! Wearing Ramon Monegal Pure Mariposa and it doesn’t work on me at all. I’ve scrubbed and scrubbed and I still smell like cat wee. Better luck tomorrow!
Itâs disappointing when you get a scrubber and a tosser. Better luck tomorrow. ????????
Ugh. Cat pee is not a good look.
Ugh. If you have some cleansing oil, I’ve found it to be the most effective scrubbing option.
Eeeeew on the cat pee! Have you tried rubbing alcohol on the stink?
Kiehls Musk today. I have a meeting this evening and the drydown is so nice…pretty skanky right now, in a good way đ
Oh thatâs a GREAT musk.Love the showergel and lotion as well
I am in Tiziana Terenzi White Fire. Jasmine, clean (white?) musk, aquatic notes and something citrussy. It is a weird one but a fun to wear. A freshly ironed white shirt with watery, green jasmine.
I tried Iris Rebelle recently and might just end up with a travel spray.
For today, I’m kickin’ it ’80s style with some Jovan Musk, which I got at Walgreen’s for a whole $2. My mom is partial to white musks, so this really makes me think of her. She has started wearing Oscar de la Renta again recently, though. She didn’t wear it for a long time. I have some too, but I like it better on her than on me.
My mom used to wear Jovan Musk for Women as her “everyday” scent, for wearing to the grocery store or the library (as opposed to No. 5 for dressed-up occasions). I bought her a new bottle recently, but she returned it to me saying that it didn’t smell like it used to, and she must have had a change to her skin chemistry. It still smelled nice to me, but she said she didn’t like it on her anymore.
A friend if mind gave me a bottle of that a few years ago, and I cannot find it. Iâd be trying it this week.
Musk week makes me want to walk to the CVS next door to my office building and get some Jovan Musk haha
$2!!! What a steal! I love Oscar de la Renta. Even the reformulation is nice.
+1 for Oscar!
Happy day all! ????warm as it is today Iâll probably wear Un Jardin Sur la Nil again. Gonna be a busy one, getting the house in order and packing. I leave in the morning on a short trip with my husband to California! My first trip there!???? Which leads me to some burning questions. Iâve been sampling Hermes Eau de Merveilles and I really like it a lot. As it fills a gap in my scent wardrobe, and most importantly doesnât send my poor husband into a hay fever attack I plan to make a full bottle purchase of it. Iâm tempted to see if the airport will have a better price than the local Sephora shop. $110 for the small one. So:
Dose anyone have any tips or advice about shopping in the airport?
Is it really more affordable?
And should I be wary of knockoffs or fakes?
Weâre leaving out of Will Rogers world airport with a layover in Phoenix before reaching LAX,the return layover is in los Vegas.
I would like to have it on my trip to form a good scent memory but if need be I can plan to get it on the way back. Why I havenât posted this earlier I can only blame on chronic scatterbrained. ????
Any advice would be most humbly and greatly appreciated!
Found mine on FragranceNet for a good price.
Definitely Fragrancenet. Thatâs where I bought my small bottle. Enjoy your trip.
Thanks! Iâll keep that in mind. I do have some sample left for the trip, too. ????
Prices in airports are not better – unless youâre going abroad. Then, maybe, on some products, you can get a slightly better price (because of no tax), but they usually have the largest possible bottles of perfumes.
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks, that helps clear things up. ????
You can find EdM for a song at discounters and ebay. I wouldn’t be concerned about counterfeit bottles.
I would buy the smaller bottle. The large one is too big for my hands!
Got home early from work today!SCORE.Lol!
SOTD the lovely Montale Crystal Flowers. It was a swap with my friend Merlin way back when we had our first swap!Love it.Powdery flower bouquet. You all smell lovely!Curious to try Iris Rebelle myself.Happy Tuesday!â????
Jealous about you leaving work early. I wish I could asap! ????????
I’m jealous you got to go home early too….I was ready to go home by 9:30 and didn’t even arrive until 8:30 LOL!
w00t w00t on going home early! Enjoy!
SOTD is Olfactive Studios Still Life. Itâs really beautiful but weird; so pretty and light but there is something else going on that makes me think it would be awesome on a man. I have been working like a dog for months and today I plan to take my computer outside and at least enjoy the weather!!
Enjoy the wonderful outside weather. You are right, it does smell good on a man. At least this one thinks it smells good on him. ????
Sorry for the bad hotel coffee. I am not a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy a good one from time to time.
SOTD is Coeur de Vetiver Sacre by L’Artisan because I thought it’ll go well with the rain today.
Nice!
I’m a basket of nerves today. I’m wearing No. 22 because it’s to wonderful to ever be able to pick up a bad association.
Hope your nerves calm down
Breath deeply! I hope your day turns out to be ok. Sending calming vibes!
Breathe*
perfect choice!
My nerves aren’t the best today either. Taking deep breaths with you. Hugs.
Hope your nerves calmed down and you feel better now.
Lillyjo, I hope that both you and KellyC can catch a break and breathe easy tonight. So many people seem to be on edge lately. ????
Deep breaths. You picked a good one!
Beautiful sunny day, SSS Beeâs Bliss. I wish I had purchased the large bottle of this instead of the small so I could share with everyone. Itâs so different from everything else in my collection – just a love.0
You smell fab! Love it too.
I managed to get a one-wearing sample of this, and I think it’s the most beautiful of all of Laurie’s wonderful creations. I almost regret that one wearing, because it makes my regret all the greater that I didn’t just blind buy it during the short window of time it was available đ You smell amazing!
You smell great!
It is one of my most favorite SSSâs perfumes but Iâll have to do with a travel spray – would have bought a larger bottle had I known…
I search for that one routinely. It seems to be a universally loved scent. ????????????????????
What a generous thought đ the NST I know and love.
Fiori di Capri today – on a gorgeous sunny day. I really love this scent. It should be sweet, but itâs not. It smells like flowers but on a very dry, very sunny day. I should be wearing a hat and big sunglasses and sitting in an outdoor bar next to a rocky beach.
I haven’t smelled that one in a long time. There is a carnation note right?
Yes. Which is part of what I love and limits any sweetness. Itâs kind of soapy…in a good way.
Just bought a slightly used bottle last week. Wonderful stuff
SOTD is the cheerful Arielle Shoshana.
Twins. A friend gifted this one to me, after she decided it didn’t fit her “moody personality”. Put me in a “good mood’!
Woohoo!
Wearing my sample of one of the new releases from DSH Perfumes, the beautiful Je Suis la Lune. It is predominantly a lovely, fresh, very milky, and non-indolic (hurray) jasmine in the opening; slightly tropical, but with no coconut notes at all. It also has a pretty champaca note that keeps the jasmine from soaring too high. The later drydown is a rich, stunning, creamy sandalwood.
I am regretting trying this one at the very end of my visit to Dawn’s studio this weekend – I put it off because jasmine is rarely a note that I find personally wearable – as I didn’t realize until the drive home how truly gorgeous it is. It is a perfect spring fragrance, and I’m going to have to go back to pick up a 10 ml edp, at the very least.
Sounds lovely! I can’t do indolic, either, which keeps me away from lots of jasmines.
Dawn does some really beautiful things.
Yesterday was jury selection for me. Tense day.
I was not in the group that got sent home right away. D**n.
I was in the first group of 18 that got called for questioning by the lawyers. D**n.
Sat thru 3 hours of questions. D**n.
Got rejected by the defense lawyers. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
I’d have done my duty if I’d been picked, but dang y’all, I am sure glad to pass on this experience, because the case was a *gang murder*.
I am very happy to be back to my normal quiet boring life.
SOTD is YSL Champagne, of course!
Congratulations! I was in a similar situation years ago – #18. I was tossed by both…in fact, I was in a group that the judge dismissed. A week later I ended up on a civil case.
Spray that Champagne with abandon!
Seconding
Whew! Close call. Welcome back to your life.
Whoa! Glad you got dismissed.
Congrats on your dismissal!
Ooh, that seems like a good case to sit on. To me, anyway đ
YSL Champagne is great fun đ
Hurray for dismissal!
For a different take on white musk than yesterday’s Candy Kiss, I’m doused in Sylvaine Delacourte Lilylang. It’s the only of her musk collection that I connected with. Gosh, it’s just lovely, and now I want to go to the beach and spend the day in the sun. The description on her website likens it to sand and skin touched by the sun, and yes, that’s exactly it.
Youâd smell awesome. Iâm a big fan of her sampler collection.
*You.
I have and enjoy her Florentina, and this one is next on my wishlist from her. I thought her first series was very nicely executed. Her new vanilla series – non-foody, yay! – looks promising.
Ooh I didn’t know about the new vanilla series.
So if you buy directly from the brand’s website you can buy in travel size custom packs starting at two 7.5ml sprays for $35 USD. I’m not sure of the shipping charge though. I’m quite tempted to go for it after I finish my sample. Lilylang wears so close to the skin that it’s perfect for the office.
I am wearing Christian Dior Miss Dior Originale. I was catching up on a few “Call The Midwife” episodes last night, and Trixie was given a wrapped gift box that contains a bottle of this from her boyfriend. She says Christian Dior, when he had this scent commissioned, wanted to “create a fragrance that’s like love”. Gotta love Trixie. And this fragrance đ
Love that show. Did I miss that episode? 2 other perfume references I recall from that show: Tabu and L’Heure Bleue.
I don’t recall that episode either. I do remember the L’Heure Bleue convo, though. Huge fan of the show, too – uplifting and heartwarming without being cheesy or maudlin.
It was Season 7, Episode 1.
I remember the L’Heure Bleue reference. She pronounced the name so elegantly. Trixie is a perfume lover đ
Hi everybody! I am wearing vintage Scandal because I am obsessed with vintage Scandal these days – I have somehow now got extrait, “Eau de Lanvin,” and body powder. It is the Eau today. Such a softly pretty leather.
I’m wearing Chanel Boy today and got a couple of compliments from people around me, which almost never happens. I only have a mini, wish I had more.
Super great and awesome choice. I lucked into to two free minis. âșïž????????
I love Boy. You smell great!
You smell gooooooood lucasai!????????????????
That’s because you smell sooooo good! đ
Aw zut, if I had known it is Iris Day today, I would’ve worn Iris Rebelle, too. (I finally caved and got that Atelier Cologne sampler from Sephora during their 10 % off sale a couple weeks ago. It’s quite a good deal if you don’t think you’ll need more than 4 mL of any of those scents! And I don’t think I will.)
What I am wearing is Guerlain Baiser de Russie. I can’t really smell the musk in it, but it’s in the note list on Fragrantica! The weather is heating up, and in a week or two, I won’t want to wear these luscious gourmands, so I had better wear them while I still can.
Work has been exhausting lately. Tons of daily meetings, super-tight turnaround times, not quite enough time to breathe. AND my vocal group will have its spring show in less than two weeks, and we are most definitely not ready for it. Looking forward to June!
Good luck with your impending spring vocal show, Koyel!
I just got that Atelier Cologne set as well even though I have FBs of a bunch already. The size is very cute and who doesn’t want a wide variety from which to choose a SOTD while on vacations?
Inspired by Deva I’m wearing Salome today, there must be musk in this. The dog is at the vet, having his teeth cleaned (after the cat had seven extractions I’m taking no chances) and the house seems empty without his 110 lb. presence. Eating a crumpet with butter and honey for breakfast.
He will be glad to get home.
Well, now I know: You and Salomé rock!!
Best wishes for your pup and kitty; tooth issues are no fun.
An iris day! Now I know why I had LâAttesa on my mind since last night. Wearing it to celebrate this day.
Joining others in Lipstick Queen Hello Sailor.
For traveling I got a small (tiny, probably 12 oz) electric water heater that I always bring with me to make tea.
You smell super fantastic. L’atessa has become my new iris addiction!
It was even more beautiful than I remembered!
SOTD is Amaranthine, so lovely on a hot sunny day!
Visited Sissinghurst today, home of Vita Sackville West, such a wonderful garden, and such a sensory pleasure, enjoyed smelling the lilacs, wallflowers and blossoms, and so did the little two year old I was looking after for the day!
Sound like a perfect day!
that garden is bloody lovely, isn’t it? (So’s the house…can you even imagine living somewhere like that?)
Itâs like a gothic fairytale dwelling!
Iris day! Well, then, I will wear one of my new faves: VC&A Bois d’Iris.
One of my favs as well. You smell marvelous.
That is so pretty!
I wish I had known it was iris day…had plenty I could have chosen from. As it stands, I’m in No. 5 L’Eau, which apparently has musk in the base. Not sure about that, but I smell great nonetheless!
Frankly, I don’t even know what musk smells like. Maybe I need to go to the drugstore and get some Jovan Musk or something haha.
Yes how did us Iris lovers NOT know it is Iris day!?âŠI would definitely have participated wearing an Iris then! You do smell lovely though.
My 5 scents:3 musks to try out to get a pretty good idea:
Kiehlâs Musk
Bruno Acampora Musc(if you can sample the oil even better)
Serge Lutens Muscs Khoublai Khan-rumor has it this one has been toned down a bit from its original beastliness, but I think still a good one to try.â????
Thank you so much!
I think musk can be quite confusing because there are clean musks ( laundry powder) like Body Shop White Musk and then dirty/sweaty animal musks which are probably the true musks. Musc Nomade was recommended to me by several people on NST when I was curious about the note.
Thank you!
Well, Jovan Musk for Women is nice, and it’s not expensive, so that’s a pretty good way to spend $5. (My mom used to wear it a lot. đ )
I have three categories for musk: laundry musk, skin musk, and filthy musk. The Jovan Musk for women I’d call a skin musk, but their White Musk is a laundry one and I don’t like it. Musc Ravageur sits somewhere between “skin” and “filthy.”
Whoa, lots of comments today!
Iâm in BG BC, which is all you need because itâs rather powerful stuff.
I been frequenting a great bagel place here in town for a morning bagel and coffee, and the coffee is amazing tasting! It must be some kind of Superhero Coffee because after just one cup, Iâm buzzing along like a little worker bee! Made the mistake of having two cups yesterday and had some palpitations! Whew! ????
Hawaii! ????
Wonder Java Woman.
Agreed…many prayers for Hawaii.
Wow… sounds like all I would need of your Wonder Coffee would be a good sniff, and I’d be set!
Reporting in as requested. I dabbed a wrist with Salomé about 45 minutes ago when I got home from work, and
HOLY CATS AND CRACKERS!!! as Musette might say.
I FREAKIN’ love this stuff! Maybe I’m anosmic to skank, or maybe I just have a high tolerance for it. Whatever. Bring. it. on.
????
WendySue (where is she anyway hope all is ok) sprayed some on her forearm when we were at Twisted Lily and she said Oooh smell this — whoa, no, no, no!
Ha! Your comment with âNo,no,noâ made me think of Rehab by Amy Winhouse????
Oh, happy to have another in the Salomé corner!! Woot woot! What did your cat think!
I thought my male cat might lick my arm off. My female wasn’t so impressed… đ
That Superhero coffee is exactly what I need in my life every day….
Donât we all âïž
I thought I was getting my money’s worth when I asked for a no water iced coffee from Starbucks. BIG mistake! I threw out half the cup, got home and had to lie down for a good 3 hours and could only drink clear soup…there was no gastro issue, it felt like they spiked the coffee with ground up No Doz.
I feel your pain! The cold brew is about triple the caffeine as a regular coffee, hot or cold, I think. Iâm afraid of it ????
I have not had the cold brew since that episode. I’ve only had the weak Wegmans icEd coffee.
Today’s is Prada Infusion d’Amande, one of my usual workday scents.
I tried Iris Rebelle and learned that i prefer chillier iris scents.
Which chillier iris scents do you enjoy more?
Nuit de Bakelite today. With my order I got a sample of Iris Cendre. Wasnât sure at first, now I really like IC. I will make do with a decant of this.
We’ve just bought a high definition TV and I watched the China Syndrome (1979) yesterday and became fixated on the colour of the actors’ teeth. They were so natural looking: off-white and uneven, and stains for the smokers. A variety of lip shapes, too. Followed the film up with a flick through the Met Gala looks which left me feeling a bit flat.
Wearing Gypsy and off to walk dogs. Had a lucky walk yesterday as six rabbits presented their white tails within the first two minutes and I didn’t see the dogs again until 20 minutes later. Later I saw a Brown Creeper…a tiny brown bird with a needle-like call that ‘creeps’ up tree trunks. Very special.
Hope your trip recovers from the hotel coffee Robin! You seem to be having a bit of an unsettling time this past month so sending you my best…and treat yourself to a nice cup of tea and a good book later.
I tend to fixate on visuals in movies, too, sometimes to the exclusion of everything else. You’ve now got me wondering if the 70s is the only era of American film where one would see imperfect teeth.
Interesting! I have recently been feeling very nostalgic for the 70âs and was YouTubeing a bunch of movies/tv series/commercials (too much time on my hands, it would seem) and I noticed not only the teeth issue, but hair as well. I think all the styling products must have been developed and widely used post 70âs. I love it! I find people more attractive and approachable when they are more human looking vs. looking like something not entirely human, if that makes sense. I love portrait photography of older people because the face and eyes are so much more human, real and somehow relatable. Or maybe Iâm just weird. I read a quote the other day that I just love: If the whole world was blind, who would you impress?
I noticed the hair as well! And you have to love all those beige, tan and brown outfits and wedge shoes.
And platforms!!????
Sycomore today, which, every time I type it makes me wince a little with that horrible misspelling. Fortunately, the scent is good enough that I can live with that. A friend says it smells like wet cardboard, but that’s GOOOOOOD wet cardboard, she assures me, and asks for little decants so she can sniff it happily. Not that she’d wear it.
By lunchtime, though, I had to resort to an emergency dab of “what is the strongest scent I have in bag or desk, oh, cool, PoAL”. Right under my nose, because, dear bob, but one of my colleagues was stinky today. It was that or tiger balm.
also: many sympathies on the hotel coffee, Robin. This is why I always travel with an aeropress. But then, all UK hotels, and pretty much everywhere it seems other than the US has a kettle in every hotel room…
I like sycomore, nice in autumn. You don’t think it is just the French spelling?
You are, of course, entirely right. It’s my anglophone prejudice that is stumbling all over the too-similar but not-the-same word đ
Well, at least you’ll always have Box of Eels!
Hiris for me today. LOVE it!! Works wonderfully in today’s hot weather in Holland ????????
Hurray for Hiris! You smell fabulous.
**waves hello across the Atlantic**
đ
It was 85 degrees here yesterday, and that was quite a switch from our much colder than normal temperatures only two weeks earlier
(and all of the snow that disappeared, as it seems to me, only quite recently). Today it’s about 75 and cloudy, but I thought a little HG Moon Bloom would be nice, and it is.
I am *really* liking the color and shape of today’s teapot! SO pretty!
SOTD = Clinique Wrappings, from the sample stash. Someone had mentioned wearing it in the recent past, and that made today’s scent pick easy. So far, Wrappings has worked well in every type of weather that I have tried it in. This could be a 4-season scent for me…
It’s always satisfying to find a 4-season scent!
I haven’t tried Wrappings in the heat of summer yet. Hoping that it will work!
I bought 2 bottles on sale recently and have yet to wear it….you may have just inspired me but will have to do a trial run before committing to a full wearing!
This is definitely one that should be tried out first. I love it, but I can see how it would not necessarily be everyone’s cup of tea.
Fingers crossed that it will be refreshing in the summer heat…
Today has been not at all pleasant but a mid afternoon dousing of vintage No 19 cologne has helped. It’s not one that’s always appealing to me, but when it’s good it’s just so good. A masterpiece. I wore it yesterday and had the same reaction. Perfect weather for it where I am: sunny, breezy and warm.
Sorry to hear that today has been a stinker for you.
Hope tomorrow is a better day for you. You smell fantastic.
How’s your brother-in-law and your sister?
Five O’Clock au Gingembre fir me this morning. Another cold cold morning with rain due later đ
Nice, the perfume and cold, not so much the rain!
That scent is so nice on chilly days.
Nice teapot!
SOTD = Le Galion Iris
â Musk
â Iris
Woohoo! I matched Iris Day by coincidence!
PSA: Ebates was offering 14% cash back to many stores and I took full advantage of that, my $50 off $250 purchase and a fabulous Estée Lauder GWP at Saks!
Commuting Woes No. 429:
This was right in my own backyard! Iâm glad I gave myself plenty of time to get to the train station this morning. My usual route is a distance of a little over 2 miles and could take anywhere from 6-9 minutes depending upon traffic lights.
The main road was being repaved but there was no notice of road closures. Within half a mile of leaving my house, I was greeted with the road closure. I had to make a huge loop, entered and exited 2 highways and the whole thing set me back almost 10 minutes and an extra 5 miles! Needless to say, I was not a happy camper but I pitied more the people who went over a mile to find out they have no place to turnaround except to go north (good if they were going that direction but if they were going to the train station, their detour north would have been almost double mine, with only one highway and a main road with 8 traffic lights in a 1 mile stretch!
Oh no on your road closures! Good thing you had some extra time built into your commute this morning… that could have fouled things up so much. What were they thinking of, not giving any advance notice??
They weren’t thinking at all is the problem. I need to be prepared for tomorrow as well seeing how the road is all ripped up on my drive home!
Hope they finish repaving quickly. Besides the extra time, the bits of gravel and tar stick to your car and make it filthy.
You smell lovely today!
Today I’m wearing ca. 1990 Yardley English Spring Flowers to complement the extremely vintage Yardley Spring Flowers soap (ca. 1965?) I showered with this morning. It’s going to be “my thing” until I use up the soap. Also wearing Revlon’s Cherries In the Snow, ’cause it’s flowering tree season, yay!
