Happy Next Generation Friday! Our community project for today: wear something from a younger perfumer.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Costume National 21 by perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou (shown).
Reminder: on 5/4, May The Fourth Be With You...it's Star Wars Day. Do what you like with the theme!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Safran Troublant. I can tell you that Olivia Giacobetti was most definitely a younger perfumer back in 2002 when she created it…
did she do en passant?
Yes!
I love that one, I did not know she did saffron Tr.
You smell great! I’m confused though – I thought Betrand Duchafour made that one? I’ve been wondering about this so maybe someone in the know can chime in!
It’s definitely a Giacobetti – on the old website, before the rebrand, L’Artisan had a list of all their perfumers and the scents they created for them.
thanks for letting me know!
I’m in Le Labo Rose 31 by Daphne Bugey. Probably my favourite rose.
Yep, you smell great!
You smell lovely. I love rose 31.
Love her style. I’ve liked everything by her that I’ve smelled – especially the one you picked. Great choice!
House and perfumer twin!
I wore it yesterday! You smell nice, it’s such an interesting rose.
Nose twins!
Eh, this one smells like dirty socks in a closed gym bag left in a car sitting under the sun for 2 weeks. I am in the minority so my nose must be broken. ????
Mine must be broken too. It doesn’t work for me either.
*Urp*
I haven’t sniffed Rose 31 perfume, but I don’t like most Rose 31 body products. I think they’re gross. BUT I looooooooove Rose 31 hard soap. It’s delicious and creamy and wonderful. (Have you tried that?)
I haven’t, but delicious and creamy sounds perfect!
Copied Robin from yesterday, wearing Angel Muse. My sinuses have been acting up since January, and I am just not smelling my Muglers the way I was. Something in the base of all of them is bothering me. Something a little salty and metallic. I don’t have this issue with any other house. I’m hoping it resolves soon. Have a great Friday everyone ????
Oh dear, hope the nose gets better!
(And wonder what that is. Could be something about the patch fraction? Or a musk?)
i am also copying Robin from yesterday. I hope your sinuses improve soon!
Nice new avatar – is that you with Prince Harry? 😉
That’s so interesting, and I have had that exact thing happen to me- sometimes perceiving a salty/metallic note in Muglers and not enjoying it. I often wonder why this sort of thing happens, where I suddenly notice a facet of a scent I’ve never noticed before and it diminishes or even wrecks my experience of a scent! Is it in my nose, in my brain, or in the scent, I wonder?
this metallic taste happens to me too, even with favorites.
Hello, scent twin! Hope that your sinus issues resolve quickly… those are the pits.
Twins or “x”-tuplets by now!
I am wearing Five by Bruno Fazzolari today. I smell like I have stolen a spritz of cologne from my sophisticated Italian lover. This will be great in hot weather.
???? That’s a nice one.
Oh no, another BF lemming!
The first second I thought “BF” stood for “boyfriend” and referred to “Italian lover” 🙂
SotD is Romanza, Masque Milano.
I think it fits the theme! Cristiano Canali looks young to me (early 30ish) in these pictures:
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Cristiano-Canali-Creator-of-Fundamental-and-Romanza-Speaks-About-his-Passion-for-Perfumery-7881.html
wonderful article, thanks for sharing it. yes, he does look young…unless he has a decrepit portrait of himself in his attic 😉
I love that his mother was wearing Eau sauvage!
House twins!
What are you wearing, cant find it in comments yet..
Hmm my guess…l’attesa ? 🙂
Yay! House triplets with Undina! ????
For me Invasion Barbare by Stéphanie Bakouche who was taught by Isabelle Doyen, who happens to be one of my favourite perfumers. Also I got IB as a result of my very first swap, done on the Posse, years ago. It was only a small decant, but it has still some left in it, and I remember so well how pleased I was with the whole transaction.
Have a great weekend everyone!
I love IB – sadly on my skin it is too fleeting.
It’s gorgeous isn’t it, not fleeting on me at all, although it does qualify as a bit of a skin scent in the dry down. It might be some of the musks in the base that you’re perhaps anosmic to.
I went with Love In A Mist by Providence Perfumer Charna Ethier. I’m not sure about Charna’s age but she is young in my eyes. LIAM is a beautiful peppery spring floral with hay/meadow notes. I bought this last year so the juice has darkened and intensified a bit. Nose to wrist, it is lovely.
I should plant some love-in-a-mist. Off to look for seeds.
I didn’t realize there is a plant by that name. Off to check it out.
I think she’s young too? And am wearing Moss Gown again.
Hey house twin!
I had the pleasure of meeting her in person last September. She is definitely young.
You smell wonderful !
Thanks Barqs! It is always a pleasure to visit Charna’s shop.
It’s a rainy grey day here, and I’m indoors baking my sons birthday cake, it’s a bit wonky, but smothering it In chocolate spread and mini marshmallows so hopefully no one will notice!
Wearing Tam dao for a calm and cosy day in.
Finally mastered Crow pose today, yogawithadriene is so great!
happy birthday to your son! you smell great and the cake sounds delicious 🙂
congratulations on mastering crow pose! that’s not an easy feat – even when I’m feeling strong, I tend to slip off my arms. well done!
Thank u! I can only hold it for a few seconds, but will keep on practising!
Adriene IS great – our television in the exercise room died recently and I miss doing yoga with her! My iPad screen is just too small.
You smell wonderful! Happy day to your son, I’m sure the cake will be delicious.
Thank u, that’s very kind!
Awww. Homemade cakes are supposed to be wonky. Enjoy the bday festivities!
I’m happy to be participating in the CP today! Copying Robin from yesterday in Angel Muse. It’s great on this unfortunately grey and wet day. Without doing internet research Quentin Bisch looks like one of the perfumery students who was featured in one of the perfume documentaries that came out in the past 10-15 years, great to see this success for him – I had no idea such a young perfumer created Muse, how wonderful.
Love your new avatar! Muse is a nice scent. I have a sample of it somewhere in my stash.
I chose Smell Bent’s Never Never Land (which seems to be gone from the website. Discontinued? If we do a community project on discontinued frags, I will be spoiled for choice). Perfumes is Brent Leonesio, and the line certainly has a youthful and playful feel.
Oh yeah, I have tons of discontinueds.
Me too. Latest appears to be Mistral Patchouli which has disappeared from Ateliers website. 🙁
That’s a great CP idea. We can all dab judiciously and cry together. 😉
Hahaha! I’d need a month, and a lot of tissues.
I hope he brings it back when he does his “garage sale” a couple times a year. Never Never Land is one of my SB faves.
Garage sale is so great but so dangerous…
Hendley Amora today-cheerful for a rainy day. Hans Hendley looks to be 30 something.
Banana Republic added some new scents to their collection. I gave myself a spritz of Neroli Woods yesterday and really liked it. It’s a bright, green neroli scent and just stays that way for a loooong time. Considering the cute travel size…
I saw those the last time I was at BR too and wondered if they were new. I appreciate the fact that they come in small-and affordable!- sizes.
I chose Olivier Polge and Dior Homme. I don’t know whether he’s still considered the “younger generation” … but he’s younger than I am so I’m counting it. Thinking about the younger generation this morning made me wonder if perfumers ever lurk on blog threads, watching for their names or their fragrances or just generally what people like. If you’re out there, Olivier – hi, love your work!
I’m with you. Not sure what age most perfumers are, but I think early 40s should count as young. 40 is the new 30, anyway.
I think early 40’s counts as young too, but I was hoping 50 was the new 30?!
Sorry. You’re so right. In fact, 50 is the new 25!
OMG! Even better!????
Great. In that case, can 60 please be the new 30? ????????
Yes Springpansy,
I can tell you it absoutely is.
Great. Because I’ll be there in 9 days and counting.
I’m so happy to hear this. ????
even better. because I will be 65 in 12 days.
You guys all crack me up. 🙂
Dior Homme is fantastic. It’s a bit cheeky that Demachy claims it now after the reformulation though… You smell great anyhow.
Does he indeed? That IS a bit cheeky … which is a great yet underused word here in the states.
I copied Robin from yesterday too. I went with Angel Muse since it was authored by Quentin Bisch
Yay, glad to see it so well represented this week 🙂
Not participating in the Friday project, but still trying to empty decants. I’m wearing The Different Company Bois d’Iris. I need a bigger decant.
I’m wearing the other Bois d’Iris. I love the TDC version as well.
Misia by Olivier Polge. It’s been a long time since I last wore this. It was a Very Favorite for awhile, but longevity issues started to bother me. Today I’m ok with its fleetingness because I’m going perfume shopping in a few hours, so I’ll want as much free skin as possible.
I don’t find that one fleeting. Could be because I usually do about 10 sprays, though. The deep drydown is fantastic but I really have to overapply to still smell it 8+ hours later.
Overapplying is probably a good idea. I’m hoping to test the edp today to see if I can get more longevity than I did with the edt.
Also, I have 5ml available in a split of Cuir de Russie parfum. Going to buy the bottle today. Base price is $225 for 15ml. So the 5ml is $75 before tax and shipping. Anyone interested can email me at elizabeth (no space) salaam at geeeee male dotty com.
I am in Pear + Olive by Slumberhouse. The temperature is in the 60s where I am and this one feels just right, plus it fits into our community project.
Perfect! Wish it were warmer here.
So far off theme, it’s ridiculous, given that I’m wearing something revived from the 19th century by the Oriza L. Legrand crew… that references an 18th C fabrication of ancient myths… Reve d’Ossian, and I’m floating about contentedly on the “standing in the doorway of an old church that sits on the edge of a pine forest on a cold morning” scent.
Also, the bottle came with the most fabulously excessive tassel. Which was *very* nearly stolen from me this morning by Small Bad Cat. (not actually bad, but, into everything. Oh, wait, the dawn chorus she sings is pretty bad…)
In my mind, that actually fits with the Next Generation theme.
Oh, I hadn’t thought of it that way. Good point, kpaint!
Relique D’Amour sounds gorgeous! I need to try this line. 🙂
I love it, but i have a weakness for incense *and* lillies. OLL have got a really good samples program…just saying 😉
Small (not) Bad Cat sounds like a character 😉
Robin, I had a dream about you last night! You were visiting my city and we were meeting for supper but I had to go back home to get a present for you (a vintage mini of Fidji, a thing I actually do own), but when I tried to return to the restaurant I was running running running but couldn’t make any progress (and I hate being late for anything so it basically was a nightmare at that point). Then I woke up.
Anyway, I’m still on vacation so my options are limited: I’m in a few drops of Demeter Sandalwood — no idea of the age of the perfumer but I sure like it.
Perfume dreams! I had one the other night where I found a bottle in my closet that I was supposed to have mailed out for a swap. I was so worried that I had forgotten and super stressed about getting it packed up and sent out.
That is DEFINITELY a nightmare.
Oh dear, so sorry to be in your nightmare! Thank you for trying to give me a present in your bad dream.
In Masque Milano L’Atessa by perfumer Luca Maffei. I might be wrong, but he seems to be young to me. In any case, I enjoy his work and L’Atessa is one of my favorites iris perfumes.
Oh! We are… er… nose twins?!
Hi nose twin! We smell gorgeous! 🙂
Yes we do! 🙂
House twins (well, triplets with Jiji). You smell great! L’Atessa is my favorite perfume too.
Hi triplet! You also smell fabulous in Tango!
Need to sample ASAP!Well you’re wearing an Iris perfume so you MUST smell fantastic!????✌????
Thank you Johanob! If you are an iris lover like me you should definitely give L’Atessa a try. It is absolutely beautiful!
You smell gorgeous! And we are house siblings together with Undina and Glannys.
Masque sure has a nose for young talented perfumers ????
No, I am not in a Masque today. perfumelover and I share a nose (perfumer) – Luca Maffei – but my scent is Laboratorio Olfattivo.
However, I did wear a Masque scent earlier this week. So yeah, this house likes young perfumers.
I quite like this one 🙂 It’s on my list, if I ever see it on sale anywhere….
The next time Twisted Lily has a coupon code, you should try to see if it is applies.
It’s a cooler day today, so I chose Laboratorio Olfattivo Vanhera by Luca Maffei for today’s project. My opnion on it has not changed since the last time. I kind of like it (vanilla, woods, spices – nice), but I would like it better if they toned down this oud-like note I detect. But I think Vanhera suits better for November-February.
And I forgot all about Luca Maffei, who is indeed quite young. Sorry you’re out of season!
I am also celebrating Daphné Bugey in Violaceum. Happy Friday!
Still have not tried that one but love the name.
House AND nose twins! Haven’t tried Violaceum yet, but I’m with Robin; great name 🙂
SotD = Hendley Perfumes Gia from a sample
Musky ginger vanilla and rose, a very dressed up night on the town scent for my morning in jeans and t-shirt.
Enjoyed this week’s project, it is good to think about perfume from different directions. Here’s to next gen perfumers!
And here’s to the “third act” and the idea it’s never too late:
https://kottke.org/18/04/philip-glass-i-expected-to-have-a-day-job-for-the-rest-of-my-life
Philip Glass’ violin/orchestra piece “Echorus” is playing on KUSC as I type. Perhaps there is an observable order to the universe today. Hope it’s true.
What a great article, thank you! Love the taxi story.
Oh, yay! Glad you enjoyed the article. That taxi story made me smile. 😀
Yay, Hendley twins! Gia sounds nice.
hi, house twin! and thanks for the heads up on Nerolie Woods from BR. I have enjoyed sniffing their fragrances when I see the tester bottles. 😀
I’ve been planning a very, very last minute trip out of the country the last couple of days. Without a valid passport. This morning I’ll be heading to the passport office to see if I can get my expired one expedited, like on the spot. (I’ve got a ticket to Canada on Sunday.) Planning to wear Edward Bess, either Genre or La Femme Boheme.
Have packed perfume for the trip and decided to go all-Chanel: 5, 19, Cristalle, Misia, Beige, BdI, plus Shalimar. I figure I’ll be covered for any and all situations. And I happen to have minis of all of those (except BdI – had to decant a bit) so it made packing easy.
Happy Friday!
Mmm. I love your travel perfume list! Lots of goodies.
Good luck at the passport office!
Good luck with the passport!
Hope it works out and have fun!
Yikes! Wishing you luck on the passport. If it’s a no-go, you may have more luck at the DMV getting an enhanced driver’s license.
Ahhh! Fun! Good luck at the passport office. You’ll smell great on your trip.
From one Chanel lover to another, perfect list. In 19 today.
You’ll be smelling great! Have a safe trip.
Good luck with your passport!
Sounds exciting! Good luck at the passport office!
The birds started chirping early today, they are as happy to see the sun as I am.????
Bergamote 22 by Daphne Bugey. Love this one.
No school today, and I believe prom dress shopping is on the agenda.
I haven’t worn LL’s B22, it’s such a great zippy and refreshing scent! You smell lovely. 🙂
Thank you! For a citrus, I get great longevity too.
Woo hoo prom dress shopping!
Testing a sample of Byredo Blanc. Sadly, I can barely smell anything – Eau de Nothing There. On to the next sample! ????
LOL “Eau de Nothing There”….
Joining today’s community project by wearing Jul et Mad Fugit Amor. Made by Stephanie Bakouche.
Next week we have bank holidays on 1st and 3rd of May, I’m looking forward to having extra days off.
Yay for bank holidays!
Enjoy your days off! (I’ll envy you a little: we do not have any time off for these holidays)
Wearing Amouage Memior for women today. I think Christopher Chong is a younger perfumer but can’t be sure. Did anyone hear about Amazon raising the price of Prime? It might be $20 more but spending $120 for Prime seems a bit steep and I’m going to reassess when my membership is up
The breeder has called and said that our puppy will be ready on Sunday. We have a crate and a couple toys for her. I’m waiting for her doggie bed for the crate. Tomorrow, we will be getting puppy food and a collar for her. I can’t wait to meet her on Sunday!
I may have missed this, but what breed?
It’s a Lab puppy.
Awwww i have such a soft spot for labs! ????I grew up with one, he was my best friend. And those puppies are the cutest.
Sending cuddles for your new pup ????
Hmm…I had not heard that about amazon. I suppose like all big businesses they need to compensate for the acquisition of Whole Foods. I did see that they are offering a rewards credit card for purchases at both WF and prime. I shop there a lot and the cash back could probably offset the price increase…?
Enjoy your new pup! Is it another lab? Do you have a name picked out or will you meet her first and then decide?
Right now, her tentatively Sidney and it’s another Lab. We love the Lab temperament and the look of the English style Lab.
Isn’t the English style lab a lighter almost cream color? Pretty! Enjoy the new furry baby!
That was my thinking. Plus I got the Amazon Prime credit card and get kick backs for using it at Whole Foods.
Yes, they are raising the annual prime fee to $119, beginning with June renewals. Darn.
Boo, but it is so convenient!
I will suck it up to pay for the shipping up front. I wear a weird bra size (TMI) so buying from Amazon is my only option. Plus I do use Prime music streaming and Prime Movies during the rainy winter, so it’s fine for me.
Hurray for the new puppy! Fingers crossed that everyone, including her, adjust quickly to new and exciting things.
Congrats on the Puppy! Hope the transition goes smoothly for all involved! ????❤️
SOTD Lush Cardamom Coffee for a hike with the OOE. Will switch it up later after shower and before heading to work. No clue as to the nose or age of the nose that created CC.
Found a great little bookstore yesterday and picked up a couple of books on Napa history. There is a trilogy by James Conaway that everyone recommended, so I picked up the first in the series. The third book was just released and is causing quite a stir amongst the locals. I think is an in depth look at the old trope of progress vs. preservation, but with a crap ton of money on the line. If anyone is a Napa/California/ US History fan, the following is a link to an article about his most recent book.
https://www.google.com/amp/napavalleyregister.com/news/local/writer-james-conaway-paints-a-harsh-portrait-of-napa-valley/article_68c72f89-e07c-5abf-b696-36e06344b731.amp.html
Also picked up a slim book with tons of old photos of the area by a local librarian in cooperation with the historical society. Interesting stuff if you like history.
Happy Friday all!
I must have missed the post when you mentioned what an OOE is.
The OOE is T-Rex. I was feeling left out because everyone has an acronym they refer to: the CEO, the DH, Mr. L, etc., etc. So I was feeling the need to belong and made up a (rather unflattering) one for T-Rex. ????
Aha! Thanks for cluing me in.
I have a few unflattering names for the cats if they are misbehaving. Well, I think they are, but they might disagree. ????
VC&A Bois d’Iris: one of very few iris fragrances I have and this one is a decant from a generous NSTer. Is Emilie Coppermann a next gen perfumer? I’m not sure – I’ve had a hard time participating in this project as it isn’t easy to find the age of perfumers, but whatever! I enjoy this fragrance immensely.
I think you smell like perfection!
SOTD is Dior’s Dune extrait. Happy Friday!
Extrait?!! I imagine you smell fantastic!
Oooh I’ll bet you smell AMAZING!
Thanks!
I’m nearing the end of my bottle, so I’m a little sad. As I’m using up bottles, I’m not replacing them unless it’s on my top 10, er… I mean top 15 ‘Stranded on a Desert Island’ list. 😉
Ah but you’re loving it and using it to the last drop.
Happy Friday guys!
1) SOTD is strange Invisible Perfume’s Epic Gardenia. Creamy, big White floral for about 15 minutes- then becomes a rich skin scent that will rise with heat. very sensual and luxurious ( in feel and in price) Alexandra Balahoutis is quite young still, and her combos are intriguing and lovely.
2) End of month reports! Bah! Adulting!
3) Gonna see the latest Marvel movie because of course!
Woot woot, Marvel! I want to see it too. My son already has his tickets for tomorrow!
WHEEE!~
I am going with my friend for a girls’ night out! Leaving the hubby and kids at home, we will be trash movie fans who will ooh and ahh at specials effects dialogue, laugh loudly at bad jokes and all the rest!
Sounds like a great time! Enjoy 🙂
Oh yes! We will have cocktails and everything! 🙂
Mmm you smell great. I love Epic Gardenia and many other SIPs.
They are really intriguing! I like Atlantic but it’s a bit strong- and of course Fair Verona is my instant favorite.
I really like Fair Verona too. L’Invisible has been my favorite for years.
I’m impressed with the fact that so many of you are participating today – it shows me that my perfume knowledge is still limited, since I just couldn’t figure out whether I had any samples of young perfumers (turns out I do. Rose 31, for example). Or may filling up that fragrancenet cart cost me all my mental perfume energy…
In any case, probably not on theme, I’m again in Cap Neroli (unless Axel Nicolai did that one. And he must be kind of young?) because it’s perfect for me right now. I also like that it layers well with a lot of heftier scents for later in the day, where I’ll be heading out with friends.
Off topic: Would anyone here be interested in a split for Seville a l’Aube? On fragrancenet, it’s about $63 or so for 100ml. Add the usual $3- $4 or so for shipping to CONUS and bottle (10ml).
I’d be willing to split up to 60ml and would want to split at least 40-50ml. Since I’m almost out of atomizers, I’d also be willing (I’d be happy, in fact!) to split larger than 10ml sizes.
Arggh. my email is elke dotttt schmeling atttt geeemaille
*whispers* You know we just cheated looking up perfumers that got mentioned through the week and seeing what we had that they’d created…right? 😉
I am wearing April Aromatic’s Agartha and it is lovely, fitting Spring. I am oversensitive to many aromachemicals at the moment 🙁 but fortunately I have some naturals.
And she makes such lovely naturals! I have several on my buy list.
Happy Friday all! I don’t know if I’m participating or not – I’m wearing Incense Rose. Don’t know if Andy Tauer qualifies as young, but I like to think of him as young at heart with an old soul.
Definitely young at heart that one!❤️❤️
This will be mine someday soon! I just need to recover from my recent spending spree. I looooove that one (and I love Andy Tauer!).
Agree about Mr. Tauer!
“young at heart with an old soul”
That’s a perfect life goal. 😀
Sampling Bella Donna from Jul et Mad with the perfumer being Luca Maffei. I like it a lot–a big tropical floral that somehow reminds me of Chinatown but with a fairly strong ylang-ylang presence.
Can’t wait to go to Sniffapalooza tomorrow. It will be my first time experiencing it. Yay!
Oh, have fun this weekend!
Enjoy! Super jealous 😉 Sniff some for me here in Australia!
SOTD finishing the week with more of Uncle Serge fumiere turque.
I am younger than he is, so that’s the way it rolls today!
Fumerie Turque is an excellent way to end just about any week. It’s so great.
Wasn’t even thinking and am participating with Douceur de Siam by Dusita Umavajna (spelling) although it isn’t entirely clear to me if she is the nose behind her brand. Regardless, I smell really good!
And that’s what matters most 🙂
Oooh,myounsmell wonderful!
Aaaargh, stupid fat fingers!
Representing Jerome Epinette in Vilhelm Parfumerie Stockholm 1978 today. The Patchouli and Geranium play nicely together in this lovely breezy fragrance.Makes me long for Summer again, even though Fall has just begun. It’s Freedom Day in South Africa so we had a wonderful day off.Freedom.Never take it for granted!
Happy Weekend All!
X
You smell fantastic Johanob!
Thanks!✌????
SOTD is Majda Bekkali “Mon nom est rouge” by Cecile Zarokian.
Top: elemi, pink pepper, cumin, incense, geranium and rosewood;
Mid: cardamom, rose, cinnamon and ginger;
Base: cedar, sandalwood, amber, vanilla, musk, tobacco flower, labdanum, patchouli and tonka.
Oh, and for Kanuka: I just heard today that they are scheduling a second round of interviews. I’ll find out next week if I’m invited. My estimation: it’s a tricky role to fill; they are unlikely to find a candidate that ticks all the boxes. I tick a lot of them, but who knows which elements are the really important ones to them? They might like a more technical background, and also I am expensive.
Good luck!
I’m in SSS Yin and Ylang. I smell great, if I do say so myself. And also participating in the challenge. Yay, Friday!
You are? I thought Laurie Erickson was NOT young, and that was part of why she had to shut SSS down…?
Oh well maybe not. I consider her “young-ish” haha. I thought she was just moving on to other things and wanted to spend more time with her parents etc. but it’s been a long time since I read her message so I don’t remember exactly ha!
I’m guessing she’s probably in her 50s so she’s young ???? But part of her cited reason was, IIRC, health/mobility issues from an old horse-riding accident.
I should have SSS! *kicking myself*
Venenum today, because I stayed up all night coughing and needed to be comforted. (Thank goodness the boyfriend is on the other side of the country, or there would be TWO sad, sleepy, grumpy people in my household instead of just the one.) Venenum really is comforting. Perhaps my most comforting scent? Hmm. It just makes me feel like I’m a baby being swaddled.
It’s by Daphne Bugey, which means all of this week’s perfumes have been female-created (is it cheating that I only wore perfume 3x this week?). I can’t find out how old she is, but she seems to have been active only ~11-12 years, and all her pictures make her look fairly young.
Speaking of youth! At work, I seem to have fallen in with a ~25yo crowd (mostly because they’re lovely and extroverted, and I’m misanthropic and introverted and need extroverts to pull me out, and all the other people my age are not dissimilar to me). I am 30, and even though I really enjoy spending time with them, they make me feel terribly old (they drink so much! their concerns seem so trivial! their relationships are so dramatic! they use so many foolish-sounding photo products!). Last night, I had dinner with a college friend who’s already 31. After dinner, I realized I hadn’t felt old once all evening. She didn’t seem shocked at my life choices. Everything was just so comfortable. Maybe I need to be more extroverted at work and make more age appropriate friends? (…Oh the horror.)
It gets worse the older you get. I usually work with much younger women (high burn out rate in this profession), and holy cow Batman, the Drama! And the level of self-involvement is amazing! I’m an introvert too, and gernerally prefer watching to interacting, especially when there is such a huge age gap. It’s lonely getting old! ????
Deva, my sister keeps trying to retire. And the newbies are so green and filled with drama.
every time she gives her practice a leave date, they beg for another month.
You have job security forevah!
I’m one of the youngest of my colleagues at 47 and I can tell you that drama is NOT limited to the young.
Sometimes the drama I see in older people are worse. I am a very shy or introverted person and I see both sides of those dramas from the distance…
Elisa P, you are right.
Drama abounds all around us. Gosh knows I create enough of my own!
I’m 39 but somehow not having children means I am always making friends with younger people. I do wish I had more friends my own age! (My long-term friends are, but they are scattered far and wide.)
This suggests that I will also always have younger friends 🙂 (I do not plan on having any children.)
I don’t have children and most of my friends have always been older than I am(with no kids)-though it may be a factor of where I live. I think there is a broader range of lifestyle choices here.
Me too, my friends are all older than me, some my mother’s age.
Re: age and drama. I don’t necessarily see a correlation between how old someone is, and how much drama is in their life. Some people are just drama magnets…
I’m an extrovert, a middle child and I feel equally comfortable with people of any age group.
Jo Malone Green Wheat & Meadowsweet by Mathilde Bijaoui. Perfect fragrance for this lovely spring day.
The temperature has dropped 30 degrees from yesterday so I can wear a heavier scent. I picked Slumberhouse Norne. I think Josh Lobb can’t be very old, he released his first scent only 10 years ago.
Masque Milano Tango by Cécile Zarokian. It’s almost too warm already to wear it but I decided to use the opportunity to wear it while a person who is sensitive to perfumes isn’t in the office and participate in the CP.
Happy Friday everyone!
I guessed wrong (see my reply to your comment somewhere above), but you smell great anyways! ????
It could have been L’Atessa! It’s just that Tango is so much less [my] office appropriate that I just had to do it while I could 🙂
You smell nice! I have met CZ in-person when Puredistance hosted a party to celebrate Sheiduna.
Hiram Green Dilettante layered with a spritz of Shangri La. I have not idea of Mr. Green’s age but I’m quite sure he’s much younger than me, lol. ????
I am not that good at guessing someone’s age, but he looks 30something’ish to me.
I love his work, you smell wonderful!
Thank you!
You smell amazing! I wish I went with Hiram too. My favorite perfumer hands down.
Thank you! Try this combo. It is really beautiful.
SOTD is Amouage Dia. Which I’m not sure actually counts in today’s community project (it’s been awhile since I’ve been around these parts). Eek.
Forgive my ignorance, but has the next Freebiemeet been scheduled yet? I might have some perfume love to spread around. 🙂
As far as I know, the next freebiemeet is still “TBA”, status-wise.
First: you smell fantastic!
Second: you do not really need to wait for the official freebiemeet: as far as I understand, any SOTD post and especially Weekend Polls are an approved ground for the personal freebiemeet.
Hey bookgirl! I haven’t seen you in FOREVER! Hoot Hoot!
Great to see you, even if you aren’t spot on, on the project!
Thanks, everyone! Will report back.
And hoot hoot to you, Hajusuuri! 🙂
SOTD is Parfum d’Empire’s Cuir Ottoman. I don’t know the age of the perfumer but today it is rainy and dreary and this was a good choice for me.
Beautiful!
Morning, all. It’s grey and blustery here, but I’m defying the weather by adopting the scent of spring: En Passant. It’s so pretty, and such a marked contrast to the season that I’m aware of it all the time, instead of forgetting it when I get absorbed into tasks. Not that the tasks I’m doing are endlessly fascinating—I’m scrubbing the tiles, polishing the bench tops, and sundry things of that ilk. I smell gorgeous while doing it, though, that’s the main thing. I wish I got a little more of the bakery in En Passant, but what I do get, mainly a fairly realistic lilac, is very nice indeed.
Yesterday’s workshop was slightly better than I thought it might be, and had the absolute merit of finishing early. Several people asked me what my perfume was, in an approving kind of way, so I count that as a win too.
Well, back to the housework. It never ends. And the places I am finding paw prints would astound you. I wonder what is passing through their minds when they choose to explore, for instance, the range hood? Ah well. They have all day to think about these small matters. Be well, all.
Since I love lilacs and I like Frederic Malle brand, I wanted to love En Passant. Unfortunately, on me that cucumber note spoils everything. But it smells great on others, so I’m not surprised that others liked it on you. I would too 🙂
I’m scent twins with a few folks here today, and I got the same inspiration as they did. Thanks, Robin!
SOTD = Angel Muse, by Quentin Bisch. The rain came in late last night, and has been spotty throughout the day. ????
Hey we’re rarely twins but we are today! It was a yucky day out today…I am hoping for better weather tomorrow.
It’s so beautiful in San Diego today. I’ve already walked 8000 steps, and it’s only a little after 1 p.m. Smelling cheerful and lovely in Atelier Cologne Bergamote Soleil.
No other Richard Blais sightings. I don’t think he was in the kitchen last night, darnit. At least I spotted him the day before. Juniper & Ivy was delicious. I highly recommend it to others. The dinner didn’t even cost as much as I thought it would, which was great. We made a stop at Ballast Point brewery after dinner and shared two flights (8 different beers).
Today we’re still headed to Balboa Park and then to get a Cali style burrito for lunch. Plus one more trip to Salt & Straw for a scoop of Peanut Butter Maple Brioche French Toast ice cream. I had some two nights ago and am obsessed!
That ice cream sounds obsession worthy!
It’s just insanely good. It’s only at the SD shop through end of April. It’s part of their series where they let elementary school kids make up flavors. Good call on this one, kid! There’s also a nacho ice cream that I plan to sample today.
Not sure about the nacho flavor. Report back in that one if you try it!
Your trip sounds great. Eat some of that ice cream for me!
Oh, I will, D. ????
It’s almost 4 p.m., and I have just 7.3 – despite the gorgeous weather (Bergamote Soleil would fit well here as well). But I’ll catch up after work.
I LOVE SALT & STRAW. I didn’t know there was one in San Diego.
…Aaaaaaand I just looked them up and there are TWO in SF!!!!! Ok, definitely planning a trip to one of them soon. I looooove their ice cream.
My SOTD is Zoologist Elephant, nosed by Chris Bartlett. I looked him up and read a very interesting interview with him. I liked this remark a lot: “One of the things I think is really quite sad is that while every child gets to play with paints no school child gets to play with perfume ingredients. More people need to know that people can do that for themselves.” Wouldn’t that be fun! I didn’t much like Elephant at first try because it goes on very green in a rather bitter way. But after several hours, I find the dry down very pleasant indeed: a rather spacious coconut-magnolia-sandalwood. I’ve just recently ordered the new scents Hyrax and Moth and look forward to trying them. I’m at the beach in Galveston and our weather couldn’t be any more gorgeous! The water has been calm, almost flat, both yesterday and today, and super bright blue, and pelicans are flying past by the hundreds. It’s about 74 degrees and the air is so clear and fresh. I love it.
Here is the link to the Bartlett interview: http://www.basenotes.net/features/2879-Aroma-Chemicals-and-the-Indie-Perfumer-an-Interview-with-Chris-Bartlett-of-Pell-Wall-Perfumes
What a cool article! Thanks for the link… enjoyed it quite a bit!
Wearing Diptyque Eau Mage by Fabrice Pellegrin. Curious, is Mr. Pellegrin considered a “younger” perfumer? Anyway, love the ambroxan, rose oxide and hint of cumin in this. This is from the 2015 reissue in the pretty crackled bottle which I’ve read is much milder than the original formulation from 2011.
I just wore him yesterday–Oud Palao. Sure, I’d say he’s young, but not sure. He also did Volutes for Diptyque. I have neither heard of nor tried Eau Mage. Is it good? I must seek it out.
SOTM was Red Truffle 21 by Jo Loves, from a Sephora sample. It was okay, though not long lasting.
SOTA was Reflection Man, from Scentbird. Very nice, lots of rosemary at the start, and now it’s mostly some nice jasmine. I have quinoa going in the IP now, and it’s quite fragrant, so who knows what I’m smelling.
I made breakfast cookies this morning, with whole grain flour, rolled oats, ground flax seeds and raisins. I added chocolate chips and a little more brown sugar than called for, so I think I really just made cookies. ????
Happy weekend, everyone!
Your last line made me laugh out loud. Nice that you are feeling well enough to bake. Your arm must be healing.
It is healing nicely; I’m fine tuning now and getting muscle strength back. ????
What you made sounds like E&C Heavenly Hunks – it is Oh My God out of this world fabulous, all the puns intended.

SOTD = le parfum Robin portrait hier
Just 2 spritzes of Angel Muse has kept me going for over 12 hours! The dry down is super gorgeous – almost like a semi-sweet snickerdoodle.
It’s Sniffapalooza weekend! I’ll be participating on Saturday. I may get an hour of work in before showing. I am looking forward to a day of catching up with old friends and sniffing. I may stop by Hermes to check out enamel jewelry. I just got my tax refund so I am all set!
That sounds fun hope you all have a great time sniffing and shopping!
Thank you…and I just got my BG gift cards (from Amex points) so some of my purchases will be free!
Have tax refund, will shop! ????????
You got that right! It’s another benefit of charitable giving.
Enjoy your gilt-free shopping and have a fabulous time with your friends!
I’m participating in DS & Durga’s Mississippi Medicine. Saturday here and I’m heading into the city for a “free” ‘Whoah-you-spent-how-much-with-us-on-perfume-last-year?” make up lesson at Mecca. Then I plan to wander round sniffing for a while before heading to the art gallery. They’ve got an exhibition of impressionists from the Musée d’Orsay that I’m looking forward to checking out. Feeling pretty excited about having a rare day to just do me stuff 🙂
That sounds like a lovely day. Have fun!
How fun! As an aside, I actually prefer Musee d’Orsay to the Louvre. I’ve been to Paris 3x and each time I made it a point to visit Musee d’Orsay.
Window shopping on the beautyhabit site the other day. I ordered Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Neroli Blanc. Very sweet and it smells really nice. And they sent a sample of Do Son, which smells pretty. And I bought a jasmine plant and put that in a pot. I guess it’s white floral day. Have a great weekend NSTers!
That is such a curious name for a perfume house. Are all of their scents related to orange trees?
Pretty Machine from young-looking John Pegg. I love the name of this one and loved the fragrance the first time I tried it. I might be in a mood today though as I’m finding it a bit piercing. Maybe I’ll hose down and go with some Slowdive instead.
