It's Tuesday, and it's Siblings Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Bruno Fazzolari Feu Secret. I am on my second cup of Earl Grey, from my tin where I throw all the Earl Greys I don't love and mix in some Lapsang Souchong.
Reminder: 4/13 will be Monopoly Friday. You Inherit $100....wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample or decant, but it could be from a bottle if you're planning to replace or stockpile) that you'll buy with your windfall. It has to be something you can actually buy for $100 or less! (If you never played the board game Monopoly, this is based on one of the "Community Chest" cards.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Nina tea set ("Tea and socialising go hand-in-hand for you. Your idyllic companion is not a single mug or a infuser made for one, it’s a complete set made to be shared. Beautifully organic and easy to use is this Nina tea set. Admire its beauty as you chat and laugh away.") is €60 at Viva Scandinavia.
I’m wearing Monserrat and hoping the grapefruit wakes me up as I am extremely underslept with lots to do today!
I wish the inheritance was $110 because I think my next purchase is a bottle of Idyllwild.
I heart Monserrat. Zippy. I hope you get the $100 because Idyllwild is well worth it.
Hey — huge congrats on your upcoming book!
And for anyone else who wants to see it: https://twitter.com/egabbert/status/983676110897463296
Thank you so much Robin!!!
Wow !! Congratulations 🙂
Wow!!!!
Congratulations!
Even if you don’t get the inheritance, I think you should reward yourself with perfume you like for all the work you did.
That’s my plan 😀
So exciting, congratulations!
Omg, congratulations! ????????????????
Thank you!!
Wow – that’s super exciting. Congratulations! Also – love your SOTD. I’m becoming a big BF fan – I also like Unsettled and Ummagumma (which I thought I wouldn’t). I only have sampes currently and haven’t tried his others yet. Unfortunately, he doesn’t work for this week’s scent project, but I may spring for his Portfolio Discovery set for $30.
Wow that’s awesome! Congrats!
Super cool, congratulations!
Ditto on the congratulations!
Congratulations! What a wonderful accomplishment.
Congrats on the book and the NYT mag article! And congrats on the Idyllwild!
Read the article and am curious as to what brought you to approach the topic.
Wow! Congrats!
1) I love Monserrat and also wish the inheritance were $110 so I can splurge on that
2) Congrats! Looking forward to checking it out!
3) With you on the lack of sleep. Feels like I have a hangover today without any of last night’s fun. Blurgh.
Thank you name twin!!
Thank you so much to everyone here for the lovely congrats, I’m blushing
Congrats on the book, and I am with you on the Idyllwild–I want it!!
Just got a coupon code for 25% off FB at Olfactif with code 39Z59LP7. They have Idyllwild. 🙂
Ooohhhh
I bought it! thanks for that!
Yay!!! Congratulations!
Congratulations on your book Elisa! I am waiting impatiently for my sample of Idyllwild.
Congrats on the book!
And Idyllwild is a great choice, i gave my sample to my mom a few months ago, but I am going to order another one to test, i think its perfect for spring.
Congratulations on the book – that’s big news, and so exciting, and probably comes at the end of a lot of work. I guess you can pretty much buy yourself any fragrance you want.
Good for you!!!!!
How many times did he use the word disaster ? 😉
<3
Fantastic news about your book–what a great topic!
Good luck with your book! Congratulations.
Congratulations, Elisa! What an accomplishment!
Big congrats on getting your book published! ???? Huzzah!
I love that tea set! It looks so touchable.
This morning, I *would* have worn Putain de Palaces ($90/50ml) for the community challenge except that I don’t have any. It’s a contender for spending my $100 inheritance on anyway. In the meantime, I’m faaaaaaaar from the challenge in Tsarina, which I received in my OJ Travel Lab. It’s fine. Not really moving me the way I wanted it to.
Shout out to my brothers ( who will never read this) for Siblings Day.
I have the same issue…. when perfumes don’t move you (the way you want them too)
Me too (brothers who will never see me saying “hey” here). 🙂
Lizbee, I have a sample of Putain de Palaces which I just tried, and which does not work for me. It claims to be LOTV, but all I get is straight up lily, which I do not like. It smells very generic and kind of like one of the Juicy couture perfumes on me. Want it? missionista at yahoooooooo
Huh. Are you sure it’s Putain that smells like lily? It’s all cosmetic powder and leather(and a hint of sweat) to me.
Yeah, I get face powder and suede out of Putain as well, and the faint wisp of a powdery rose. No lily or LOTV.
Yeah, my recollection was Don’t Get Me Wrong was the white floral thing… and maybe I need to retry it now that I think about it, since I didn’t like flowers much at all when I tried it.
ACK, you’re both correct! I was testing Putain and Baby, Yes I Do at the same time…Yes I Do was the lillies/Juicy Couture, and Putain started off really well, with a nice hint of pure sex and some flowers but then turned into something that made me want to sneeze…I vowed to get rid of Yes I Do immediately, and think about Putain and whether it was worth it. Thanks for your sharp eyes.
Yes, please! Emailing now.
Please see above, I confused two scents. I’ll send you and e-mail back when I get to my Yahoo account…
Ok. 🙂
I woke up to ginger and spicy chai as my father in law is here visiting with crazy monkey and my baby Buddha.
I am embarking on my first solo trip since have the two kiddos, so he is here to help out. I will be going on a much needed meditation retreat so I may disappear for a short time and at meditation retreat centers there is a strict no fragrance policy.
I am in Beyond Love by Killian, from a sample. I don’t think I could find this for 100 bucks..maybe the travel spray..not sure!
A meditation retreat sounds wonderful. I want one. ???? I hope you enjoy it.
I hope you have a wonderful time and come home refreshed. A meditation retreat sounds like heaven!
I hope the meditation retreat is wonderful!
I don’t understand why your FIL never comes to make tea at my house!
Do hope your retreat is fantastic.
Enjoy your meditation retreat! May you come back refreshed and recharged!
Good for you! Enjoy the retreat.
Oh, nice! I have never done a retreat. Curious to hear about it and which one you’re doing. And your FIL sounds like a real gem ????
I snagged a travel refill of Beyond Love on ebay once for about $30 (I think someone had bought the travel set and was selling the refills). Only 10 ml, but I enjoyed it.
I love it that your FIL comes to play with the babies.
Very nice ! Best wishes for a wonderful retreat !
Enjoy your retreat–love the opportunity to move a little inside.
Enjoy your time away and good luck with the transition back to the real world!
I am wearing Sadanne, for which I’m gonna need a richer deceased relative… and drinking a tieguanyin oolong tea, hoping that it wakes me up!
Hope the tea did its job!
Good morning. Finally a bit of sun here in Ohio.
I’m into my second day of Bruno Fazzolari Fontevraud. The initial back rust and dry down are good on me but there is a middle burst of rise that throws me off. Need to try this out on some warmer days.
Oddly I’m fascinated by the progress on an event space next door to my building. The restaurant and pub are the current “its spots and the restaurant has decided to put in a nice event space to round out the building. There is something very exciting watching and old building become some thing new and hip again.
Maybe theres hope I can be new and hip again, LOL
Ditto this! Although, I never was hip…????
Blast…not back rust. I should never try to operate without coffee.
I was planning on asking you your thoughts about this one today. You must be psychic????
It is growing on me fast. A little bit of a hump with the rise then it becomes beautiful.
I’m still confused about the rust and rise. Hmm
Sorry. I am giving up coffee and I can’t seem to think.
The initial blast (not back rust) and dry down are beautiful. There is a moment with the rose (not rise) that gives me pause but it passes quickly into a lovely scent.
My apologies for the confusion.
I like your Earl Grey idea, I keep the ones I don’t like for work, so I finish them off anyway.
SOTD is Une nuit étoilée (edp). It’s nice and suits the lovely spring weather.
I love that tea set!
A decent Lapsang Souchong can cover up many deficiencies, although I suppose you could argue it’s a waste of a decent Lapsang Souchong 🙂
Good fragrance pick — I was glad to see it made the cut into the new packaging. Still bummed about Mandragore, though.
Mandragore is the “better” scent of the two. I need to get me some edp of that. I “only” have a bottle of EDT.
I don’t drink as much Lapsang as I used to. I’ve started drinking my favourite MF green teas. You turned me onto those actually.
Nuit must sell better, I guess!
I tried Lapsang tea for the first time over the weekend..wow! It smelled like a very good scotch
It’s very strong, and I only occasionally drink it straight. But I do love smoky earl grey!
That tea set is very appealing. I’m not sure if it’s the color or the shape, but I really like it.
I’m wearing Bois des Iles (EDT) from a sample. Every time I try it, I like it in theory. However, I don’t like it on my skin – it feels like I’m playing dress-up for some reason. This sample is going to find a new home, because I’m giving up on it. Life is too short to feel uncomfortable in a fancy perfume.
Have you ever tried samsara? it has the same sandalwood jasmine smell but a little less dressed up maybe…
I was thinking the same thing about that tea set and I think it’s both the shape and the color- it has a very zen like vibe.
Many of the Chanel’s certainly have that fancy dress-up feel for me too. I was also going to suggest Samsara, but get your hands on the vintage. It is sooo lovely and smooth and without the Chanel aldehydes feels more wearable for me. Or there’s Tam Dao for straight up sandalwood.
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll investigate Samsara.
I’d like to thank both lovestosmellgood and madtowngirl for mentioning that Samsara reminds them of BdI. I noticed a resemblance too, but thought I was imagining things. Nice to know that I wasn’t!
The stormy rain has returned here, and I’m attempting to counter it in Azemour.
Azemour on! ✌????
Wearing Fat Electrician today from an ELdO sample, and this one is a WINNER! (Unlike several other of their samples that I’ve tried.) I’ve already had a compliment on it, and I love it. I could totally see buying 30mL of this with that Monopoly money…
In total agreement. It is a WINNER!!
Those little bottles are cute–and affordable. I wish other companies would give us that option.
IIRC the ELdO site is having a sale all month on everything. (Or was it last month?) You need a code – maybe someone can help as I didn’t write it down.
Also scentbird has it in 8 ml.
I’m wearing Coco. Yum. Also hoping I’ll find out my surgery time today since that is supposed to happen Thursday. I think I’ve got everything done that I needed to do as far as the hospital and getting cleared.
Coco is definitely Yum! Hope your surgery goes well!
Yum, indeed! Good luck Thursday.
I hope this is all behind you soon!
Hope the surgery goes smooth and you recovery is super quick!
Good luck with surgery. I can’t remember what it is, but having just been in the hospital myself, I want to advise you to be straightforward in asking for pain or nausea medication if you need it. They will usually respond and there’s no reason to try to be a super stoic.
Good luck with the surgery!
If you’re staying overnight, bring ear plugs, suite mates (and tv’s) can be loud, don’t be afraid to ask for pain meds, getting ahead of the pain is important.
If you have issues with nausea, ask for a Scopolamine patch; once applied, it gives up to 72 hours of relief and it can bridge the gap between doses of Zofran.
signed,
A Frequent Flier.
Good luck – I’ll be thinking of you and sending healthy vibes in your direction.
Good luck with the surgery.
Coco is great!
Good luck with the surgery, sweetgrass!
Best of luck with your surgery! In the meantime, you are smelling wonderful.
Good morning Y’all!
I pulled out a forgotten sample of Jo Malone Tobacco Mandarin….KAPOW!!! This is just soooooo good!! Wish I had snapped up a bottle last summer, but there always the chance that they’ll re-release it.
I can barely keep up with the Jo Malone releases on NST, much less drive into Atlanta to go sniff ’em! 🙂
JM is cranking them out these days, aren’t they? It’s a bit much, if you ask me.
If I bought all the ones I want, I couldn’t pay the mortgage! 🙂
Good morning, dear friends! We woke up at 5am to take our new flight to Paris (after those six agonizing hours on the phone with Air France/Delta). These flights are much worse than our original direct flights, but at least we will get to Paris!
Wearing Venenum today, which once again fails the CP completely. I do have a backup sample in my purse of Kulfi (to get more of that spiced cream flavor!), which IS well under $100, and if I were to get an unexpected $100, I’d happily buy a bottle of that.
Paris, here we come!…in like 16 h.
Have a lovely trip!
Safe travels!
Have fun, and stay safe!
Have a wonderful time !!
Looking forward to hearing about your perfume adventures!
Bob voyage!
*bon even ????
I liked Bob!
Me too.
As they say, Paris is always a good idea!! Enjoy your trip and be sure to keep us posted so that we can travel vicariously!
Bon voyage!
Bon Vacance!
I hope you have a blast!
Glad you get to go despite the flight issues. Have a wonderful time!
Have a safe and happy holiday! You smell amazing. I would love to be near you on a plane.
Have a wonderful trip!
Have fun!
Bon voyage and I hope you have a fantastic time in Paris!
I’m in Hermes EdM yesterday and today; the plan is to wear it all week. I could definitely find a bottle of this for under $100. I find this one so comforting and familiar, and I think if I were to have just one perfume it would be this one.
Wow. That’s saying a lot.
It is also really lovely. You smell great. 🙂
You smell great! That is also one of my go-to scents. I don’t know if it would be my “one,” but definitely in the top 5 desert island picks!
It’s a top 5 for me too. What a glorious scent.
yay for Eau des Merveilles! You smell fab. It’s in my top 3. 😀
So, today I’m in Philosykos. While it is the only fig fragrance of the few that I’ve tried that I actually like, I’m not sure that I would commit to a full bottle yet. I finished my manufacturer’s sample, but rather than a full bottle, I think I will spring for a decant.
Commendable!
I’m not one for fig perfumes, either. I like the way Philosykos smells a lot, but for some reason, I get tired of wearing it within minutes. But when I went camping once and brought it with me, it was perfect.
You can often find the 10 ml travel sprays on ebay.
Have you ever tried Hermès Mediteranee? Love that fig.
Ah, that one is my fig scent too.
Like the other Elisa, I’m also feeling underslept and a bit lifeless as a result. Nothing jumped out at me perfume-wise this morning so I didn’t think too much and ended up with a dab of No 22 which is very wafty for such a small dab. But a pretty waft.
beautiful scent !
I agree!
WAKE UP! You smell lovely! ????
It didn’t happen. I had to take a power nap when I got home. But thank you! I don’t wear this often enough.
I would guess that most of us don’t wear our scents often enough. ????
Ack! It’s ugly little sister day! ????
To celebrate this dubious day, I’m once again wearing SL Vetiver Oriental. Good stuff!
Now, to get serious. Why, why, why am I asked if I want to give a tip to a restaurant when there is no server?? I’m placing my order at the counter, and picking up my order at the counter! Why is there even a question of a tip?! I don’t get it…
Woke up with a wicked headache, but being so conscious of healthy habits in the last year, I’m eating a chocolate chip bagel so I’m sure I’ll be right as rain in a New York minute????
I suppose because low paid staff are serving you and possibly cleaning up after you, but yeah, I don’t mind a tip jar at all, but don’t care for systems where you have to say yes or no — it’s like when they ask at Whole Foods if you want to “keep or donate” your bag refund.
Subtle forms of shaming are not the best way to please your customers.
Hope your headache improves!
The shame game winner is the employers, who don’t pay staff a livable wage. I pay for my bagel and coffee, pick it up from the counter myself, and clean up after myself. And I won’t even go into having to repeat my order 10 times because the cashiers don’t listen the first 9 times I tell them “Bagel, toasted, cream cheese, small coffee.”
I’m not bitter, really! And my headache is gone. I just hate the continual dumbing down of everything on this planet, and the way every company spins the “We’re doing you a favor by doing taking your money,” sporting a big BS grin.
In a previous life I was an ascetic, and a hermit, I’m pretty certain. ????
Totally agree! And I swear, I sometimes wonder if I am the only Whole Foods shopper who refuses to “donate” my “bag refund” — they always seem surprised.
Hope the chocolate bagel soothes your head! If not there’s always aspirin with codeine, my personal favourite.
Last time I had a narcotic pain pill, I was in the hospital, all the way at the end of the hall, and could SWEAR I hears everything going on at the nurses station a lá The Wesley’s Extendable Ear. No thanks, I’ll stick with ibuprofen ????
*Heard! Good grief Charlie Brown!
I think the bagel will help!
It did! ????
Yeah, agree that it’s the employers who should should pick up the shame ticket. Depends what I’m buying, but I don’t tip when I buy a drip coffee. It’s already like $3 bucks in these parts and $4 is really excessive for a plain ol’ drip.
Exactly! I make sure I always get a refill and charge my phone, to boot! Oh my, I think I have officially crossed over into “old and cranky” territory!
I completely agree with you on all points. I’ve been old and cranky for awhile now, so welcome to the neighborhood! ????
And where is the grey haired smiley face when I need it?!?
Ha! I was born old and cranky ????
I’m looking very forward to drowning in Vétiver Oriental myself when I get back from vacation! You smell great.
I hope you thoroughly enjoy it! You got it at a very good price point, so extra credit for that. In perfume math, that means you can get an “extra” bottle while in the City of Lights! ????????
I always tip when someone has to prepare the food or drink.
I am wearing Chanel No 5 EDP and drinking a cup of orange bliss tea.
My lower back is still bothering me. Since posting about it last week, it started improving, so I stopped taking the naproxen. This past Sunday, while watching TV from the living room sofa, I dozed off. When I woke up the back pain was back with a vengeance. Now I am back to naproxen, epsom salt baths (thank you for that tip, Ede97005) and bio freeze. I have an appointment for my annual physical/checkup on Friday and hopefully the doctor can give me some insight. Hopefully 🙂
Good luck! Back problems are the worst.
Yikes. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
ouch!
Hugs!
Oh no! I hope you feel better soon.
Oh Ick! on the back acting up. Glad to hear that you have a doctor appointment in the near future.
I’m looking forward to reading Elisa’s book!
SOTD is Guerlain Les Deserts D’Orient Encens Mythique D’Orient EDP.
You smell wonderful!
you smell fabulous
That was such a frequent wear for me this winter. Love it to bits.
You smell great! I like it but unfortunately cannot wear to the office.
Remember how I was complaining that we had really cold Easter in Poland? Well, not it’s like 23*C. Crazy weather and a sudden big change.
I’m enjoying Berdoues Peng Lai today. It’s very fresh osmanthus, more floral rather than apricoty and benzoin with tonka add more warmth to it.
Glad your weather has improved!
Hope the nice weather stays with you!
Wearing BF Unsettled. Doesn’t work for our scent project, but the name is perfect for how I am feeling today and I love the fragrance.
Hello to my sis for Siblings Day. As she is a scent-phobe (what’s up with that?!), she won’t see this.
Hopefully you will feel Settled soon.
Looks like an unofficial Bruno Fazzolari Day.
Does Bruno have a fan club? If so, I think I’d like to join ????
Yes. We’re called Fannolaris????
Ha – excellent!
I just wish Bruno started his distribution somewhere in a shop nearby (Netherlands, please, if you are reading this Bruno haha) ????
I know he ships internationally, but sometimes you just want to walk into a store and try stuff, or NOT pay overseas shipping costs for samples….
I love Au dela N.
And I want to try your and Robins sotd as well!!! Oh and Lampblack, is it good?
Oh Lampblack and Monserrat are my two favorites. Lampblack for Winter and Monserrat for summer.
Monserrat! Thanks for the reminder.????
I have a sample somewhere…i tried it in winter and thought: “I need to retry this when sun shines..it is probably perfect for spring and summer”
????
My sister is not a scent-phobe but does not practice the womanly arts. We could not be further from one another on that spectrum 😉
I wasn’t crazy about either Unsettled or Feu Secret. *$ saved*
630 this morning, waiting for the school bus, I heard birds singing! I was so excited I threw open the window like scrooge on Christmas day, it was only 24 degrees, but still birds! Spring! I decided to play sample roulette and am wearing I miss Violet. I have no idea how much this costs, but I can tell you that it is very similar to Agent Provocateur Maitress. A little dirtier, but similar. For anyone who likes the lipstick, make-up vibe, Maitress is perfume math free.
I woke early one day this past weekend and while lying in bed, too lazy to get up, noticed the birds started chirping right at 5:59 am. They know spring is coming!????????
Love lipstick/makeup scents and am taking notes. Thank you! And yay to spring!
Yay for your singing birds showing up! That’s gotta be a boost to the winter-weary. ????
Dame Perfumery day 2: BFMV. Mmm….this is from a 5 ml decant, or technically what is referred to as a sample on his website. Dame fits in nicely with this CP since all of his perfumes are less than a hundred dollars. Just wished he offered smaller sizes.
I don’t like any of his offerings to buy a FB, but I like a few enough to purchase more samples. So, it’s kinda like having small bottles, ish.
Retrying this 1990 vintage bottle of Parfum d’Hermes that Kafka made me buy (kidding, but I’m going to blame her anyway). Bought it on ebay, still in box, bottle almost full — an unloved gift put away for years?
Reminds me very much of Chamade. Which is fine, I guess, but I already owned some Chamade. Worse, I don’t get the basenotes in any strength at all. It just fades on me. Is it me? Is it this particular bottle? Was it never Meant to Be?
I was also underwhelmed by a vintage bottle of this, so you’re not alone!
Well, there it is, I’m not crazy. 😉 Thanks!
Participating today and wearing CdG Rhubarb. A whopping $55 on Luckyscent right now – sure, it doesn’t last forever, but at that price, re-spraying is not an issue. It’s a fun one.
Rhubarb is one of my favorite scent notes. Have to check this out.
I’m wearing a strong dose of Infusion d’Iris from a decant I’ve had since MUA days. I’ve almost finished it off (15ml). It’s become darker in color, richer, and stronger so of course I’m worried I’ll be disappointed by a less rich current version if I end up buying it. I don’t even know if what I have is EDT or EDP, though I’m guessing EDP.
If it’s old it’s probably the EDP. The EDT was released more recently.
Thanks, that helps!
Hey NST! Did you miss me? Feels like it’s been forever. I’m back from a lovely, sunny vacation and now I’m slogging through the resulting backlog at work – so just a quick flyby to see what you’ve all been up to. SOTD is LL The Noir 29.
Where did you go for vacation?
Captiva Island, Florida. It was beautiful! Tropical flowers everywhere. Our house had a blooming star jasmine and gardenias. I can still recall the scent in my nose-mind.
Ooooh, sounds lovely! Welcome back.
Oh Captiva is beautiful and peaceful. I seem to remember a great restaurant called The Bubble Room?!?
Ha! Yes, The Bubble Room was right by our house. We could hear them announce when people’s tables were ready. It is a popular attraction!
That sounds amazing.
Welcome back!
welcome!!!
Captiva is great! I like it much better than Sanibel. Hope you are all rested and rejuvenated!
Welcome back!
Today’s SOTD is Coriandre by Jean Couturier – citrus, herbs and patchouli.
sounds like a nice combination of perfume notes
SOTD–is going to be Idyllwild, which is also my choice with my freebie bucks. This one could make me forget my “no buy in 2018” rule.
Thanks for all of your good thoughts, the minor surgery seems to be correcting the issue and hopefully I will be back to center in a few more days. Meanwhile, it looks like spring will spring into summer on this coast–not looking forward to 80 degrees, but I do love seeing the sun finally.
I’m glad to hear things are improving!
I need to dig out my Idyllwild sample and try it again. Sure is getting lots of love today! I gave it a very timid try and liked it – but then I got distracted by violets and iris for awhile.
I’m glad to hear you’re recovering. Today’s comments have told me that I really need to try Idyllwild!
Good news that you are healing and things are improving!!
I think my $100 inheritance would go towards the new Aedes Musc Incens when it comes out. Then I just have to come up with the remaining $145. And really $145 is pretty reasonable for a 100 ml Aedes, so since I’m saving so much money, I will have some extra money to spend on Bruma…
SOTD: Hermes Galop. It’s kinda growing on me.
Sounds like a great plan! I am looking forward to the new Aedes as well.
Sounds good and Bruma is lovely! How was your sniffing expo? I’m assuming you went to Aedes?
I hope to someday have an Aedes bottle; they are so gorgeous. I’d go for the signature, I think, or maybe Copal Azur 🙂 but I’d love to sniff all the ones from this line that I haven’t yet tried!
Either Jovoy or Sens Unique carries Aedes (and maybe both). ;^)
My favorite so far is the signature, so I’m with you there
SotD is French Lover
This reminds me of childhood days. Playing hide and seek in the garden or the park in summer. Trying to hide behind shrubbery…the smell of civilised vegetation????
That sounds so appealing!
Another LV testing day – today I’m wearing Rose des Vents.
It is making me want to have a nice piece of smooth chocolate velvet cake.
Mmmm, roses + chocolate = delicious.
I crave chocolate after smelling or tasting peppery-spicy things. 😀
Just being alive makes me want to have a nice piece of smooth chocolate cake 😀
Good morning NST – I love reading this week’s challenge entries – good to hear about all the bargains out there. I’m commando, because I have too many new samples at once and can’t decide quite yet – many lovely choices. My Jayne Ormonde sample set arrived yesterday and they didn’t quite get it right, so the one I really wanted to try (woman) is not here (yet). I sprayed on all the other ones yesterday and none of them comes close to the fun and beauty of Champaca (I got Tiare, Osmanthus, Taif, and Sampaquita because they were out of Frangipani). Oh well. Maybe more careful sampling will reveal a winner.
Ta’if is my absolute favorite. I also like and wear Champaca, Tiare and Frangipani. Ormonde Woman, Orris Noir and Tolu are my winter favorites. Neither Osmanthus nor Sampaquita ever worked for me – even though, as you can see, I’m an OJ fan.
I hope you’ll get a better result the second time around.
Ta’if smelled really “Chanel-y” to me yesterday – aldehydes, formal, a little imposing. But you’re right – I will try all of them by themselves first.
Champaca is my fave and I also really like Frangipani. Bummer they were out of it.
I’m in Kenzo UFO (which I did buy for 100$/or less) but would be a perfect windfall scent if I hadn’t and could find it; subtle and persistent metallic skin + vanilla, and doesn’t smell like a certain time or place, to me anyway.
I’ve always wanted to try UFO. The ones available are opened and that sets off alarms for me.
Hmm the bottle doesn’t let in any light, so it might be OK?
I got one that had been opened from a reputable seller (positive review-wise, but not a perfume person, maybe?) on ebay for quite cheap.
Spending a horrid day in the health office renewing my card. At least I am smelling great in Fève Délicieuse.
Be strong! 🙂
You do smell great! What’s a health office?
Like a Medicare office, in Canada.
Oof. Good luck. You smell spectacular.
I hope you’re going to have a stiff drink when that’s finished.
It took 4 hours of claustrophobic cramped waiting, the first hour standing in the hallway before being allowed into the waiting room to get a number, with kids bouncing off the walls and babies wailing. The health service is like immigration, you are treated as though you are trying to defraud the system and must prove your innocence. I was served by a humourless clerk who gave me the evil eye and interrogated me on my absences from the country before being approved to have my card renewed. I hope they give me at least a five year renewal as I can’t face that again any time soon.
Gracious. Glad you won the first part of the battle, anyway.
Warm cloudy day with a promise of rain. Mille et Une Roses by Lancôme from their La Collection re-issue.
I wonder how different it is from what they currently have: I’ve never seen those newer bottles for it or other Maison Lancôme perfumes at a store and having them already makes it strange to pursue paid samples from the decanters. Has anyone tried them?
I have not tried them on skin but they were also at the La Jolla UTC Nordstrom. I was mighty impressed with the lavender one (Lavande Trianon, didn’t smell much like lavender to me but smelled just really good), as well as the Jasmine Marzipane (this did have that marzipan note). They all smelled good, in fact (they also had one of the oud ones). But felt I so clearly don’t look the part, there wasn’t a point in asking for a sample (plus, I had already 4 Byredo samples and the citron noir sample so felt a bit greedy).
Just checked the price – while certainly not cheap, they are not that crazy – I totally should have asked for a sample…
I have Mille et Une Roses which I purchased about ten years ago, in the 50 ml bottle.
I also own all the non-oud Maison Lancome scents, which I really like. I think they are well done, they used really good perfumers such as Dominique Ropion.
Lazy Sunday Morning by Replica again, because the sample was sitting on the coffee table in front of me. Packing up and hoping everything fits in my carry on. If not, then it stays behind here for another trip.
Ready to get back home but hard to leave my dad. We really have to figure out next steps for him. None of us (except him) is comfortable with him being by himself. I think in-home visits may make the most sense. But, it’s a process….
That’s a good name for a perfume. Best of luck with your father. It’s so difficult to figure out what’s best, and such a worry sometimes.
Sorry you’re in this position. My family’s decision has been to keep my father out of a nursing home for as long as possible, so nursing visits have been super helpful. Everyone has an opinion but its worth it to have several deep discussions about it.
This is so hard. I’m thinking of you and your family.
Hugs, LizzieB! That’s tough.
SOTD is Annick Goutal “Myrrh Ardente”.
Top: myrrh, tonka and benzoin;
Mid: guaiac wood, myrrh and vetiver;
Base: beeswax.
A comforting scent for a grey and murky day.
Anybody know anything about the Hermessence scents “Myrrh Eglantine”, “Agar Ebene” or “Cedre Sambac”? I remember a lot of noise when Muguet Porcelaine was introduced, but these seem to have sneaked past while my back was turned. :^)
They’ve been reviewed here by Robin, a few weeks ago! I haven’t tried them yet. Need to go to the Hermes store!
Thanks odonata9, I missed those reviews and have read them now.
Well, now I want to try them all, plus Muguet Porcelaine as I’ve not smelt that one yet either. Also, I would like to get Osmanthe Yunnan and Epice Marine again. But, there are only 4 bottles in a set. Plus for the moment I can’t justify buying perfume anyway, as everything is going on renovations in Malaga.
If someone else wrote that perfect example of a first world problem, I would want to slap them. So I am slapping myself for you. ;^)
A*Men Kryptomint. Oof. I bought a decant of this last fall because I love a good mint note. I didn’t get much from it in the cool weather and put it aside for warmer days. Well, I’m getting more today and it’s not good. On me, it smells like the minty patchouli note from Angel merged with a strange roasted nut note topped off with cheap barbershop cologne. I also spritzed about eight times (because I somehow remembered that it was subtle) and thus will be “enjoying” it for a while. Hope everyone else’s Tuesday perfume adventure is more successful!
Ewww, that sounds awful, but now you know!
For ever and ever, A*men. 0:^)
The good news is it didn’t last that long – four hours in and it’s very faint. Spraying some Geranium pour Monsieur, which has EASILY retained its position as my favorite mint!
I’m wearing Madhat SantL for a trip to get the car’s oil changed and the tires rotated. Madhat is a tiny enterprise in Chicago making limited edition scents in small quantities. SantL is a sandalwood and one of my favorites.
Just spent a nice 15 minutes on their website — looks like fun, and I like how the perfumer talks about the actual development process.
FM En Passant, day 2. It smells like spring!
There ought to be a lilac emoji 🙂
Lush Sun ( orange, mimosa, sandalwood ) on one wrist and Philosophy Fresh Cream on the other. Hail squalls outside, bit more snow on the hills.
Ha! I considered wearing Fresh Cream today but I decided againt two gourmans in a row.
Morning, all. Storms and cold weather here —one day of it, at least, then the temperatures climb back into the 20s again. I’m wearing a jacket that makes me look a bit like pilot, but for fun, I’m wearing very un-piloty, blindingly gold-gold-GOLD brogues. I wanted a perfume that is also light-hearted and a lot of fun, but the perfumes that dance and sing also tend towards warmer weather. In the end, I reached for Black Cashmere, and finished with Ambre Narguile….how did that happen? My hand had its own will. Creepy, but it made a good choice. I’m happy in my ambience of spiced apple crumble.
Must away. Have to be at work early to finish a memo that I had forgotten. Be well , all.
Sounds like a great. combination!
Yesterday’s sun didn’t last. The haar was in this morning. I rather like the surreal effects of that thick white cloud that descends over the city, when huge landmarks like the castle (and castle rock) just disappear. It makes the things that remain in view look like a stage set: the gothic spike of the Scott Monument in front of blank, solid white.
The sideways rain through in Glasgow, however, was less appealing.
Mito voile today. And another conference paper proposal to write tonight now I’m home from work.
You smell great!
Mito is so good… I need to finish my sample before it turns or evaporates and decide what to do next.
I think it was like a week ago I was sharing my doubts here about ‘vintage’….(so expensive…shady sellers and quality…blah blah????????)
…..aaaannnnnd here I am, holding my first Full Bottle ‘eBay-buy’
50 ml of Safari EdP in the so called original(vintage?) formulation. ????
I did some research and searched for an older version, because I read everywhere this scent was reformulated and not in a good way (is it ever?)
Ohhh and it smells heavenly! ????
Huuh where did that emoticon come from (the one blowing his nose)???
????
It was not meant to be there..
Congratulations on your purchase! I have yet to buy anything from ebay.
Yeah I took me quite a while…i had already bought a few vintage mini’s on a Dutch online marketplace.
But I guess I just hadnt met the scent yet that made me want to explore eBay.
Lots of shady photographs – (is it that hard to make 4 clear photos of the front and bottom of the bottle AND of the front and bottom / back of packaging OR at least add one pic that has the batch code and the manufacturers info on it??) – very high prices for reformulated versions, reasonable prices but outrageous shipping costs…yeah you can easily spend evening after evening on this website…
SotD = samples of CdG Series 1 Leaves: Lily, the old on the right wrist, the new on the left.
Old Lily smells more of rose/freesia, new Lily smells has more prominent LotV at the moment. I enjoy both.
LOVE the Nina teapot, thank heavens I’ve sworn off collecting tea paraphernalia. That shape, the soft green, the Scandinavian feel, it all makes me sigh.
I’m lemming the new Lily…
I feel the Lily lemming too!
I’m feeling myself in a bit of a spring slump, perfume-wise. It’s much like the conundrum I face with my wardrobe every spring. Dressing for weather that’s cool but not cold always takes a long time of adjustment before I figure it out. Somehow fall is easy but spring confounds me every year.
It’s not warm enough for spring florals but too warm for winter warmers. I stare at my perfume collection like it’s a foreign language I’m trying to translate but nothing makes sense.
Ended up in EdM Eau Claire, which is working well enough.
The change of seasons can be rough. I also find it challenging to find appropriate clothes and perfume. I tend to wear my mid-weight scents this time of year. I feel like I have some good options in this category but I do enjoy wearing florals in the spring. Now if the weather would cooperate! I hope things perk up for you soon!
SOTD: Diptyque’s Vetyverio EdP for a hot Wednesday morning. Apparently a change will come in tonight returning us to our usual autumn program but I’ll believe it when I see it…
Running late today. At least the sun is shining. ????
SOTD = Rose de Siwa, from the decant/sample stash and Petunia. Such a pretty, pretty rose. It has been playing hide & seek with my nose for the better part of this afternoon. ????
It is pretty and wearable. I can usually smell it for several hours so maybe an additional spritz if you wear it again?
I think maybe my nose was getting “surprised” by the perfume every so often. So far Rose de Siwa wears rather soft and close on me. Next time I will try another spray and see what happens.
It is lovely! You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
Monopoly money SOTD is Calypso by Robert Piguet. I can’t remember if I paid $45 or $65 for my 50 ml bottle? Props to ElisaP for turning me on to it. It’s a great scent for the price.
Yeah, I think I paid 40 something and agree, it’s a quite the bargain. And you smell lovely, of course!
SOTD = Guerlain Neroli Outrenoir
W00t! Tea, orange blossom, citruses. Vanilla.
On theme! Really! I have a Le Goutte Parfumee 20 mL refillable travel spray of this goegeous beauty. I also have a 75 mL bottle from which I can refill the travel atomizer.
You smell great!
