Another Monday, and where I am, still darned cold for April. It's also National Unicorn Day and National Winston Churchill Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Fendi Theorema. I figure it will be too warm to wear it soon.
Reminder: 4/13 will be Monopoly Friday. You Inherit $100....wear the fragrance (presumably from a sample or decant, but it could be from a bottle if you're planning to replace or stockpile) that you'll buy with your windfall. It has to be something you can actually buy for $100 or less! (If you never played the board game Monopoly, this is based on one of the "Community Chest" cards.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Fendi Monster Wool Scarf ("This lightweight scarf by Fendi displays the designer's bright use of colour and iconic Piro-chan, the female Fendirumi character. The long, bandana style and luxuriously soft wool and cashmere blend will keep girls perfectly comfortable when the temperature drops.") is marked down to $203 at Childrensalon Outlet.
So Robin, the scarf is marketed towards girls? Um, yeah. I am wearing Serge Lutens Five O’Clock Au Gigembre. Need the warmth today. 🙂
Yes, girls!! Fendi has a whole line for children.
Well, that kind of blows my mind! Cool, if you can afford it. 🙂
I googled “Piro-chan” … and am still none the wiser as to the why!
I googled it too…pokemon in mink coats…and yes, why?
Why? Because it’s haute couture, of course????
Monopoly…Caron Pour Homme from a sample
Had a “afternoon” tea at my place yesterday. A friend baked quiche, homemade marshmallows with melted chocolate, macaroons, and lemon tarts .We drank Lapsang tea and did girl talk all afternoon…
Sounds like a wonderful afternoon.
Yay for friend time, and melted chocolate!
What a relaxing time!
Mmm, you smell good! I recently finished my sample and see that fragrancenet sells 750 ml bottles???? for less than a hundred bucks! A person could bathe in it-that’s a lot!
750????
Yes, 25 fluid ounces. I can’t even imagine how big that bottle is! For 71 bucks…maybe I should buy it for a split, I think a 10 ml decant would be less than a buck, lol.
That’s nuts!
750?! Good grief, that’s a wine-bottle’s worth!
oh my goodness..that is a lot!!!
Oh, that sounds so lovely!
Good morning, I’m wearing Mitsouko, it snowed again, it will continue to snow, summer is a dead concept consigned to history, how is everyone?
You smell like peaches (in the snow)
What are “peaches”? They sound like a summer food; all memory of them is buried under the snow
Mitsouko has a peachy/cinnamon note that I love.. so you smell like a summer chypre in the snowy weather to me!
LOL!
A friend living in Brooklyn made a meme that basically had Winter shouting ” I’m not leaving. I’m not f*****ing leaving! This is MY HOME!”
Ack.
no.
We got snow, too. It’s pretty much melted now, but we woke up and looked outside and were stunned. Snow. Again.
That snow came to us after it hit you.????They say 60 by the end of the week though! Hang in there!
Snow here too, with a little rain. Just remember when summer finally gets here NO ONE is allowed to complain about the heat???? excluding Mals, of course ????
Hehe, okay, note to self: No complaining.????
It’s totally fine to complain about the humidity though, LOL
Sometimes it snows in april….
Awwwwwww….;). 🙁
Scent twin! It’s a good scent for when it’s unusually cold for the season!
(((HUGS))) Regina!
I’m in Le parfum de Thérèse by Frédéric Malle
Heaven!
SotD is Indolis, bij Areej Le Dore
Argh, I am starting to LOVE it, but I don’t want to…its so expensive.
Mr Jiji and I are still working our way through a bunch of Amouage samples.
A short recap:
JOURNEY MAN
We both liked the Man version a lot. I think Mr Jiji appreciated this one above average!
JOURNEY WOMAN
MR Jiji: “That’s just awful” He did not scrub, but held on to this statement the whole evening
It reminded me a bit of that Vero Profumo perfume (Naja?)
It was not THAT awful to me, but it was kinda plastic-y on my skin and fruit notes easily turn sour on me.
I dont need this in my life…
So the JOURNEY’s were part success, part failure
And I really would not pair both these scents together.
Like when you go out together and HE puts on MAN en she puts on WOMAN or vice versa.
I reallyt dont know if thats the idea behind these duos but in this case, no. Its a horrible combination when you wear both at the same time.
LYRIC
We liked both versions! But I really need to try them again.
We applied 2 hours before bedtime, so I guess I missed some development there seeing how most Amouages change overtime.
Both the HONOURS were okay-ish but not a huge hit.
I cant even remember what they smelled like haha. Not a big impression.
Oh those names, I feel no connection between name and scent, and the names are all vague, so it makes it hard to remember what is what.
Especially when you try them all in a row. 🙁
so funny how different all of our noses are. Journey Woman was love at first sniff for me, mostly because I love the opening of Osmanthus! Tea and apricots won me over as well..
I bought a bottle but then swapped it out because I would never finish it and wanted someone who would…
Just went and dabbed some on..I still like Journey Woman, but to be fair, have not tried the man version!
Journey Man is very spicy and woody. First phase has some harsh edges and it is quite dry, but the long warm balsamic drydown is great.
I like the tobacco in it. But first hour was just too harsh on my skin.
Also, lots of rumours on the forums and blogd about lots of Amouage reformulations, so I would not be surprised you smelled a better version of it. ????
Love Journey Woman, and although I might not finish your bottle, it is definitely in rotation over here.
I think Journey Woman was my first Amouage scrubber. Or it was Honour. I get a bit hazy about the later Amouages as well, although the ones I like (Myths Woman) I remember very distinctly.
I love Lyric Woman, but it needs a couple of wearings to be fully appreciated.
Does your sample collection include Beloved or any of the Opus?
Not sure if the set contains Beloved, will check when I get home.
As for the Library collection, I only have a sample of Opus viii. Do you have any other recommendations?
These get muddled in my brain just as much as Honour and Journey, but I know for a fact that I love Opus III, it’s a lovely soft floral with mimosa note.
https://nstperfume.com/2010/11/05/amouage-library-collection-opus-iii-perfume-review/
https://olfactoriastravels.com/2011/07/13/review-amouage-library-collection-opus-iii/
That sounds good! On my to-sample-list. ????
I second Opus III. It’s a beauty. I find it similar to Beloved, so never purchased.
I’m not a fan of Journey Woman, either. Osmanthus/apricot/peach is something I cannot do in perfume. I’ve smelled Honour but don’t remember it either 😉
Hi all, I am wearing the remains of last evening’s Anima Dulcis. Very vanilla-ish and comforting. I suffered another hip dislocation last week on Thursday night and had a repeat hospital visit, first night in the ER, second night recuperating. Now I am equipped with a very cumbersome, heavy, stifling hip brace which is meant to keep the hip prosthesis in place. It’s pretty discouraging. I have had to cancel my two big conference trips planned including the one to Budapest. On the bright side, I’ve had wonderful friends who’ve stepped in to help me with rides, grocery shopping, and even with cat feeding and litterbox cleaning. Another friend brought my mom up from Galveston. She has her own limitations but she was eager to see me and will be helpful in doing some cooking and cat feeding and just providing companionship.
So sorry about your hip, but how great to have your friends and mother to help. Cat feeding and litter box cleaning can be especially trying with mobility issues.
Sorry to hear about your hip. Hope you feel better soon! Glad you have good people around you to help out.
I hope things will improve for you soon health-wise!
Oh no! So sorry about your hip! Hope you are on the mend soon!
I’m awfully sorry to hear about this. Hope the brace will help you heal properly/quickly. Lean on those friends, and enjoy the time with your mom!
Oof, so sorry about your hips 🙁 but I’m really happy you have such great friends who can help you out!
Ugh, that is no fun for you. I hope things will heal and stabilize soon. Glad you have some help meanwhile.
Yikes! Here’s to a swift recovery! Never smelled Anima Dulcis but it sounds lovely.
Yikes! So glad you are getting help and can take the time to mend.
That’s rotten luck. I hooe there is some long term solution on the horizon so you can feel more confident re. Travel etc.
Sorry about your hip, hope you heal quickly!
Sorry to hear about your hip! Would it cheer you up to plan a truly fabulous visit to Budapest for when you are healed?
oh, that’s tough. As a fellow hipster, you have my particular sympathy on the slower road to recovery. Here’s to strong healing, and the patience to see you through it.
Oh no!! Not again?!? So sorry to hear about your hip! Fingers and toes crossed that you heal quickly. ????
I’m so sorry to read this, how frustrating! I wish you a full and complete recovery when the brace comes off! Sounds like you are blessed with good friends. They will help you through. ????
I’m so sorry you’re going through all that again. And I’m glad that you have support from your friends and family. I hope the cat also shows some appreciation and contributes to the healing (at least emotion-wise).
Ouch. Sorry you had another hip dislocation. Thank God for helpful neighbors and that your mom is with you.
So sorry Calypso! But glad you have lots of supportive people to help out. I guess that’s maybe the silver lining? Hope you heal well.
Adding my sympathies, Calypso, that’s rough luck.
Oh, that is really bad news. I hope the brace does the trick and helps protect your hip and allows it to heal!
Wearing the LV Le Jour Se Leve – I think I am pretty close to go and get a real bottle…. 😛
What’s it like?
My children describe the scent as “pretty”, “clean”, “not what you normally wear” (which means floral – as I dodged floral for many years). Personally on me I smell a lot of osmanthus and jasmine and I like that. It is also bright and sparkling which is how I want to feel these days so it is a very healing scent right now.
Cavallier-Belletrud also made Issey Miyake that made me feel that light and fluidity so overall I’d say I’m almost certain that I’m going to splurge a bottle soon.
SOTD BoE. Speaking of Chanel, does anyone know if the les exclusifes are available for sniffing/purchase in the San Fran area?
Happy Monday! Which, by the way, is the UGLIEST sister of the bunch ????
Agreed. Tuesday just isn’t the same stage of ugliness.
And to answer your question (although I don’t actually know), Seattle’s downtown Nordies has them, so I would be shocked if you could not find them somewhere in downtown SF.
oh, I’m sure they are available there somewhere, but I don’t want to be running around in the middle of a bustling city looking for them. Kind of wanted to make a direct flight to the store, do my damage, and then leave. I’m not much of a big city gal and all the noise, traffic, skyscrapers, etc make me anxious and irritable. I want to just swoop in and swoop right out. =)
Ah, got it. Makes sense!
I believe there is a Chanel boutique in Union Square that carries them. At least there was 7 years ago!
Yes, thanks! I just looked it up and its on Geary St. 😉
Yeah, I think my thing with Tuesday is that Monday is *supposed* to be bad. Tuesday isn’t, but is often a let down.
Actually, just came to me that Tuesday is late March / Early April.
Well, let’s face it, the best days for almost everyone caught up in the M-F 9-5 grind is Saturday and Sunday. The rest are just fillers for the weekend. =)
In that both = a long, long wait until the payoff comes, I’ll agree.
Probably at Neiman Marcus.
thanks, I will give them a look see.
Yeah, there’s also a Chanel stand-alone shop in Union Square!
Oops, I see others have already told you this.
Hey Deva, if you have an inclination to visit SF’s veiw (errrr that would be Oakland) send me an email! ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net
Will do!
NM has them all.
Oh, good to know! I’d prefer to avoid the Chanel boutique if possible.
Hey, let us know if/when you head to SF, perhaps we can meet up.
I will do that. Schedule right now is MIA…! I was *supposed* to start today, but now delayed until the 16th. If anyone in the area wants do a group meetup, I’m thinking weekend would be best? Please chime in if you’re interested, and say what works for you, and we can have our own sniffapalooza????
On a quick visit to see friends back in Colorado (moved from there to Seattle last July). Brought only Gypsy Water and BK Amber Oud and they’ve been perfect.
I have a sample of Gypsy Water I need to break out. Enjoy your mini-vacay with friends! 😀
Both are beautiful.
SotD = Parfums DelRae Debut, my late entry for last Friday’s Top 10 of Spring project.
Hey-hey, perfume friends. I’ve caught my breath after an internet-free week spent with my extended family. A highlight was walking in Muir Woods with my parents. And I learned that sometimes when you’re hunting for unicorns, life gives you a goat. Minions are so cute. And so are Fendirumi!
It was also a perfume-free week. Not because I needed to avoid wearing scent, rather I was focused on my people and the time we spent together. I noticed a few perfumes in the wild . . . Alien, Beige, Daisy, No. 5, Vol de Nuit, a fruity patchouli a few times.
I missed the damage report, so let me think. Last quarter I received the fabulous Eau de Gaga in a freebie-turned-swap, sent three bottles to new homes. That nets out to minus two bottles. Go me!
Goodies arrived from three uber-fabulous perfumistas. Balanced those out by mailing away some samples and my first ever attempts at decants. (Oooh, scary!)
The sting of my no-new-bottles-pledge was further softened by ten 1ml samples from STC. Whew! I feel better now. Confession is good for the soul and the nose.
Let’s have a great week, NSTers.
Nice to see you back tiffanie. Sounds like you had a lovely week. I once saw a bumper sticker here in Madison that read: The most important things in life are not things. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Have a great week.????
hi madtowngirl, that’s a great bumper sticker. 😀
Sounds like a great time. And goats! Goats are the comedians of the animal kingdom.
Agree, goats are funny!
Enjoyed your post! Was it a fainting goat?
My daughters are fascinated by the fainting goats!
I kind of am, too.
thanks, springpansy! Fainting goats are hilarious.
I watched the latest Minions movie with younger members of my family. A goat is mistaken for a unicorn because he has just one horn.
Great idea to just unplug and enjoy friends and family. Sounds like you have some sample testing to start, so have fun!
An unplugged week is nice.
I have a just-arrived goodie bag of CdG samples sitting on my desk. They’re up next! 😉
Your happy week is contagious! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Yay! Let’s happy dance all week. 😀
Agreed! Sounds wonderful. I haven’t tried unplugging in ages. Good to know it’s survivable and enjoyable!
I’ve been to Muir Woods on my own, and it was a lovely experience. It always makes my heart glad when I hear that others got the chance to visit it too. What a treat to see it with your folks! That’s a memory to treasure. ????❤️
I am looking to live the Friday challenge all week ! I have so many cheap and cheerfuls ( as Portia calls them) that I could likely do a few weeks !!
Today – Ava Luxe Vanilla Musk Oil – Retails for $30.00
This house does some amazing scents – I cannot recommend them enough.
I haven’t tried any Ava Luxe since, gosh, probably 2009. I thought she suspended operations a few years ago, and I suppose I didn’t realize she was back. (If I’ve got that right, anyway).
I have been buying from her for a few years now – I did not know she had ever stepped away. . The Honey and Vanilla Musk are favourites in oil form, while the Moroccan Mint Tea EDP is a summertime necessity.
It is darned cold for April here too! I woke to a surprise dusting of snow on the ground, BUT it is supposed to be 60 and sunny by Thursday, so spring is on the way!
SotD is Dame Orange Blossom from a sample. I do really like this one. I think my sample may actually be the perfume oil…????, it seems more viscous than perfume.
Really, really hope it warms up! I need to try that Dame.
I’m wearing Dame Desert Rose, because I couldn’t find my favorite Dame, which is New Musk Man.
House twins! I really like New Musk Man too but I feel like it is more citrus on my skin than musk.
I get a deep musky and stone fruit from New Musc Man, but perhaps that is because I bought the oil.
It’s cold out. My tulips are frozen, poor things.
Wearing vintage Tresor parfum.
Oh you smell good.
I’m in Profumum Roma Confetto, which I would consider a good contender for this week’s challenge. The travel spray is $74 at Luckyscent, and while it’s not a lot of ml for the money, the scent lasts forEVER. (My skin eats up everything. Not this, though.) I get compliments on my fragrance days after spraying (yes, days!) if I wear a jacket or scarf with days-old Confetto on it.
Was just checking out Confetto this morning. Sounds awesome !
Oh man! Instant lemming. (I have wondered about that one…)
It’s my birthday today, wearing the Aedes Pelargonium my husband gifted me. Heading out for lunch to a French bistro with a local Montreal perfumista friend. It snowed here yesterday and it’s just below freezing now, but at leasr it’s sunny!
Happy sunny Birthday!
Happy Birthday! I was thinking of you as I drove down Narragansett Ave on Friday…
NIce!!
Have a great birthday!
Happy Birthday!????Have a wonderful day!
Happy Birthday to you! Hope you have a great day =)
Happy Birthday!!!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy the sunshine and the wonderful food!
Happy birthday! Enjoy the day!!!
Happy birthday to you , Ms Montreal ! I hope you have a joyful year ahead.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Hope your day is epicly awesome! 🙂
Many happy returns of the day to you, cazaubon!
Happy birthday! I hope you have fun with your friend!
Happy Birthday! Hope your lunch was fabulous!
Happy Birthday! Or should I say, Bon anniversaire!
Bonne
No, you were right the first time – anniversaire is masculine. 🙂
Happy birthday Cazaubon !!!
many happy returns of the day!
May your year be as fabulous as your fragrances.
Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes, it was a good day! I had maple pecan pie for dessert. 🙂
Adding my late good wishes and very happy to hear you had a dessert!
Happy Scented Birthday! ???? ????
Happy Birthday! Your dessert sounds fabulous.
Happy Birthday! (but haven’t you just had one a week ago together with your daughter?)
Her birthday is the 1st, mine is the 9th, but we celebrate together because the wisteria blooms in San Diego on the 1st and we always take a photo together in front of the flowers on her birthday.
Happy birthday although I thought it was on April 1st!
You probably saw that on my facebook page, which is under my dog’s name – her birthday is April 1st. 🙂
Happy scented birthday, Cazaubon!
I’m in Cuir Amethyst today. I’ve got my “Keith Richards” boots and scarf on. Had to channel my inner Rock Star . Have a great day everyone! ✌????????????????
????! (you forgot this emoji: ????)
Ha!
LOL!
Ha! Was on my break, ran out of time????
Excellent! Rock on lillyjo! Hopefully your resemblance to KR ends with the outfit ????
Well….. there is the issue of my hair… but it’s more Moonstruck Cher than Keith.
Oh, that’s enviable to me!
My son recently said , uh… Mom, do you think your hair will ever not look like the 80’s? Asking very serious. No, son, I’m afraid not.
Lol! That’s cute. Well, the 80s styles are having their heyday again so you’re right on trend!
Comparing Il Profumo Bourbon Vanille and Montale Sweet Vanilla today to see if they are similar and if I need a FB of the latter.
Important work. ????
I did not find them that similar, what was your impression?
Somebody has to do it!
Good Morning all,
I’m in Chanel 19 Poudre that was a generous extra in my last swap. I feel professional and sophisticated.
I missed the spring top 10 and will have to read what everyone contributed.
Went to the Nordstrom in the San Diego UTC mall Saturday night with a colleague and got showered with Byredo samples (I was mostly just trying to see what lines this particular Nordstrom carried but the SA caught up with me as I was sniffing the Byredo bottles).
Also got a Hermes Citron Noir sample which I’m excited about – lots to try! Happy Monday and I hope the snow will end soon for those of you who are in it.
Oooh. I’m in SD, too. Had no idea I could find Byredo in town! Yay! Do you know if they have the body products too?
Sorry, I don’t really remember. But – they have their own counter, so I would guess that means they have more than just fragrance (they don’t have their own person, though). These are all proper samples, rather than Nordstrom made ones, by the way.
They have some of them, best to call and see if they have what you want.
Ooh, I had forgotten about the existence of Citron Noir (or perhaps I never knew about it?). Looking forward to hearing about that one! I am awfully fond of Hermes scents.
Happy Monday!
1) Meanwhile, in Portland, it has been rainy, windy and mild, and the grass is growing like crazy!
2) We have a possible high of 70F today.
3) SOTD: Philosykos, which seems just perfect for today.
4) Did a final RCA on the fence before ordering materials. a) There were posts, but they were not anchored with concrete or bracings. b) Railings were not well done, so they weakened by windstorms, wet weather and lack of bracings. c) Wild ivy had crept in the fencing for the town homes, further weakening the fence posts and pickets. I spent some time yesterday clipping off revived ivy and doing final measurements.
The neighbor has not stirred to do a damn thing, and when I told people at Home Depot, they just shook their head and said “typical”. But it has now been 6 months, and 3 letters (from me) and a lack of action other than “Oh, I am gonna call my insurance company” and nothing since then. So for my upcoming birthday, I am gonna get myself a fence and install it myself (with some help, of course).
Oh, I must have missed the whole fence issue. Is it a wooden privacy fence? Happy you’re going to get to 70 today, hopefully you’ll have some sunshine to go with it. You smell great, BTW!
It was both a privacy fence and property dividing line. So I am gonna do my side and place his fencing (that landed in my yard) in his back yard, so He can decide what to do with the lumber.
Neighbors! What a hassle. He may just be dragging his feet because he’s waiting for you to cough up the (costly) new fence…
Yup, basically. Very jerkish and irresponsible. He will get the pleasure of dealing with with the lumber waste and I will get a nice back garden to enjoy for the summer though.
I hope he doesn’t just leave it there to rot and attract termites!
I’m with Robert Frost that I am not so certain that “good fences make good neighbors.” But I am certain that bad fences make bad neighbors! Too many stories to recount here. Gah!
Oh, indeed! Bad construction CAN and DOES make for bad motivations and relations!
BONUS DRAMA: Because of no privacy, I am able to discern that there some sketchy stuff going down next door. Ah, MIO DIOS!
My parents’ crappy neighbors put up a fence that stole 1′ of my parents’ property. My parents decided not to do anything in order to maintain neighborliness. Then, of course, the father of the family was charged with embezzling money from his law firm, was disbarred, and went to some kind of gentlemen’s prison. “I should’ve guessed he’d do something like that,” grumbled my mother. “Clearly, he’s a practiced thief. He stole 1′ of our land.”
I am totally stealing a foot of space since I am putting up a new fence.
THAT SAID, funny how sketchy and unethical neighbors turn out to be sketchy, unethical people.
When I bought my house, the surveyor flagged my property line, upon which the neighbor had encroached about 10-15’. One day before I moved in, I pulled up and saw him out there picking up each flag and moving it to enlarge his lot. Illegally. Hard lesson is that most people you work with/live with/ deal with on a daily basis are potentially and most likely sketchy in one way or another. Same goes for the person in the mirror! ????
Man, I know I am sketchy, especially when it comes to grapes in the produce section:
Cashier: We can weigh those grapes for you.
ME: (mouth STUFFED with grapes) Oh, I wasn’t gonna get grapes, just apples.
Cashier: *sighs*
But for real, I don’t (expletive deleted) with interesting people, shall we say, where God and everybody can see! That is why I need a fence! My eyes!
My Ethics professor at B-school put the fear of fraud and other financial shenanigans when he brought in a guest speaker was incarcerated at one of the “gentlemen” prisons. A prison is a prison is a prison.
My parents had a tall wooden fence surrounding their backyard which was fairly old by the time new neighbors moved in next door. They had 3 young boys who used the fence to kick soccer balls against. So there was a constant “pound pound pound” in addition to frequent flying soccer balls coming over the fence into my parents’ yard.
It seemed that the neighbors encouraged their boys to engage in this behavior. It infuriated my mom, particularly when a flying ball came within a few inches of hitting her 95 yo mother in the head.
I told her to tear down their fence (which was already in bad shape) as I was sure the neighbors would build one if it was gone. She did and they did.
Your neighbor is clearly playing the same game with you 😉
To make it even worse, I have seen the neighbor encouraging his dogs to go wee in my backyard, so I am sure that is his deal. He gets to have his lumber waste placed in his yard where he can decide to rebuild his side of the fence or dispose of it.
It’s in the 50s here in Houston today, so I’m enjoying it by wearing Zoologist Camel. Used up the last little bit of my sample. I think I at least need a travel spray of this one.
I love that they have travel sprays for their scents!
I know! That Camel is very nice. It was a bit fleeting on me however.
I’m exhausted, and everything I’m wearing today is a little muted, including Une Amourette, which I think of as the perfume equivalent of mauve or nude lipstick (always flattering, pretty, and incredibly versatile). In honor of Unicorn Day, though, maybe I’ll add some sparkles later. I’ve recently developed quite a collection of glittery lipsticks, after all 🙂
Joining you in utter exhaustion, Eleebelle! But sounds like you managed more sparkle today than I did ????
Good morning Y’all….
Back to work after a nice week off with the kids and hubs! We had a staycation, and we all enjoyed having nothing on schedule for a few days! 🙂
Back to it today, wearing ELdO You or Someone Like You. Every time I wear this one, I like it even more!
I am waiting for warmer weather to pull out my bottle of that one–one of the few fb’s (albeit a small one–maybe 1 oz?) I purchased last year!
Jada, you get an enabler pin for telling us about the ELdO sale. I got some samples and a couple of small bottles in that…
It’s in the upper 30’s here and freezing my butt off in Cleveland. I’m wearing Rose de Nuit today and loving every second of that slutty rose.
You smell fabulous in Theorema, Robin!
Why thank you, and of course so do you!
Yesterday, we learned that our flight to Paris tomorrow (Tuesday) was canceled due to Air France strikes (what’s new?). After FIVE HOURS on the phone, we managed to get flights on Tuesday morning on Delta via Seattle.
This morning, I tried to check in for said flight, and now have been on hold for half an hour with three different people in order to get my ticket reissued because apparently someone screwed up and failed to connect my SFO-SEA flight to my SEA-CDG flight. I am filled up with bitterness and anxiety.
My boyfriend has been forcing us to meditate for the past few months, and I’m trying really hard tob think about the anxiety-related guided meditations. Is it working? Unclear.
SOTD is Rose de Petra again. A bit over that $100 limit (…a bunch over; 85 % over, to be specific), but let’s say they will produce a 20-mL travel spray for $100. Yep, that’s what I’d get right now.
Or I’d spend the money on a TaskRabbit to stay on hold with Delta/Air France for me.
My 13 year old niece got stuck an extra night in London on a school trip due to the strikes. I can’t imagine having to reschedule and find accommodations for a class full of teenagers. It’s stressful enough to have to do it for yourself. Breathe deeply–you smell fab!
Geez, that’s awful. I remember getting stuck in Frankfurt overnight because of AF strikes a couple years ago, and seeing a children’s football team sitting forlornly around while their chaperones looked like they were going crazy. I was too absorbed by my own misery to empathize with them, but in retrospect, it must’ve sucked for those chaperones to try to figure out what to with all those children.
Well, not sure forced meditation is very effective ????. Best of luck with you travel plans. I hope everything works out for you.
I am VERY EXCITED TO TELL YOU and everyone else that after 70 min on the phone, I HAVE TICKETS TO FRANCE! I feel so relieved. Ahhhhhh. And now I’m late for things I have to do at work. Ugh.
Yay (for tickets)!
Hot dog! Very happy for you! Have a lovely trip and then come back here to NST and confess all your perfume purchasing sins! ????
Yaaaayyyy for tickets!
Geez, what a relief! Sorry you had to deal with all of that 🙁 🙁
Hooray!!!! I hope your trip is so wonderful it makes you forget about this mess! Safe travels 🙂
Woo hoo, France! BUY ALL THE PERFUME!!!
Oh good!!
I am with Deva..forced meditation..no.
Yay for tickets! And Big Yay for Rose de Petra, too. She’s a beauty.
Yay for the tickets! And forced meditation probably breeds resentment instead of relaxation. But I’m very excited for your trip!
Transit strikes are scheduled throughout the country (in response to proposed labor reforms). You may be able to find a list online (metro, trains, etc.). Part of the French rhythm of life….
Oh no, the metro too??? I know about the SNCF strikes, and it sounds like we won’t be affected by those, thankfully!
Glad you got that sorted out! I hope your trip is smooth sailing from here and looking forward to a full report!
I meditate almost daily, and it is helpful, but the Key is to apply its principals during frustrating phone calls etc. which I often forget to do.
hope you have a wonderful time in Paris!
OMG, so sorry that you had last minute shenanigans with your plane tickets! Have a wonderful time in Paris! ✈
Yay!! Glad everything worked out for you! Enjoy your vacation.
If that scarf were silk instead of wool, it could almost pass for Hermes. And speaking of Hermes, I’m in Jour d’Hermes today because we’re supposed to have a one-day taste of spring – 70 degrees and sunny. Only one day, but still, woohooo!
Enjoy your day of spring, you smell great.
Thanks Kelly!
It’s sunny here, too, not nearly as warm, but I’ll take the one-day respite.
Nice! I grew up where you are (not all that far from where I live now), and in either place a sunny springlike day in April is definitely something to enjoy.
SOTD is TF Black Orchid edp. I can only wear it if a.) it’s cold outside, and b.) I’m in a particular mood. I’d never need a whole bottle, no matter how cheap, but I am glad I have a little bit of it.
In a frenzy of optimism last Saturday, I went to the garden center and bought bulbs and plants to set out. They are shivering and sulking in the garage. Sigh…
I like it in early, wet spring 🙂 It was one of my early perfume loves, and one of my very first swaps ~2 years ago!
(PS, drop me a line if you’re still interested in the Vetiver Oriental decant.)
You smell great!
Yes I agree, to me black orchid smells best when its freezing outside. Though I also wear it on those colder windy and rainy spring and autumn evenings.
i’m going commando today, since i went to bed with a migraine and woke up with a migraine, sigh. instead i’m planning what perfumes i’ll pack for my trip to new york this weekend. we’re going to see david bowie is, so minotaure is a given 🙂
what fragrant stores/boutiques are a must-visit?
Hope that migraine goes away soon.
thanks! i am feeling better today 🙂
Osswald in Manhattan, Twisted Lily in Brooklyn…
Sorry about the migraine???? But, exciting about the David Bowie exhibit! I’ve heard good things and plan to take a weekday off to see it myself.
Will echo Twisted Lily and Osswald. I also enjoy Aedes.
thanks! i’m feeling better today. we’re going on friday, so i hope the crowds will be thinner than on the weekend proper.
I’m wearing Sud Magnolia today for a springy lift. Plus, I must mow the lawn while it’s dry–another week of rain is in the forecast.
I’m hoping I mowed the lawns for the last time until spring. Enjoy your dry day
In DSH’s Parfum de Luxe. I really should be in a pink gold damask silk for this one. It is a beauty!
Oh, my. I don’t know that perfume, but I’m all for pink gold damask silk. (Runs up the stairs for wallet and then heads to DSH website with cc in hand.)
I found the image I was thinking about: https://yakymour.wordpress.com/2018/01/20/oscar-de-la-renta-oscar-white-gold/
Totally coincidental that it is coupled with a perfume promo here!
Wow, I want that dress!
So elegant.
Bois d’armenie. I finished my decant of the weaker/newer version, and am into to the decant of the good stuff (counterintuitive?).
Still a pretty warm/cuddly scent as it isn’t a bright spring day here.
It does seem counterintuitive for a 10-ish year old fragrance, but that seems to be the way these days!
Aaaaaargh Monday again…. 🙁
I’m in Blackberry and Bay today. I can still smell it, so that’s a plus. Lots of the JMs fade fast but this one sticks around for me.
You smell wonderful!
Have you tried JM’s Pomegranate Noir? That one seems to have decent longevity for me.
You smell good!
Already hot here (calm down, desert) and I’m in FM’s En Passant. I didn’t love this one last spring, but I seem to be loving it now? Noses are a mystery.
Right? What works one year may not work the next, and vice versa.
Noses really are a mystery, which makes it really difficult to get rid of the decants and samples that don’t work for me because what if I love them later?
Yeah. Last year I loved saffron as a note. This year, I don’t. Why?? I have no idea.
I rarely comment on the SOTD pictures. I know why it’s on markdown. I’ll be nice ????
SOTD = Jo Malone Honey & Crocus
Holy Crocus. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled crocus before but howver much there is of it in this perfume, ????
For those concerned about lavender, iI didn’t detect any.
I’m on theme as a 30 mL bottle of this is USD70, cheaper if you purchased this with a promotion.
Thanks to everyone who responded to my BB and CC cream questions over the weekend. I have some shopping to do and quite timely too with the upcoming Sephora VIB discounts!
I tried this, hajusuuri, based no your comments (and that charity decant you were doing) – to me, I smell rum raisin (or zuppa inglese) ice cream waffle cone. I was intrigued!
It’s wonderful, isn’t it? I was going to describe this as a Cuddlefluff™️ as I am getting the creamy warmth of saffron, very similar to Safran Troublant
I’ve sniffed the crocusi growing in my yard and they have no discernible smell to me.
Ha! So it seems no creocuz was harmed in the making of this perfume.
Ha! It’s a good bet.
You don’t have to be nice, I don’t choose the images because they are things I like or want!
And adding, even if I did, you still don’t have to be nice 🙂
I purchased a few of the Wrendale Pottery teacups after seeing a picture Good Hare Day in one of your Scent Of The Day posts. Love them!
This week’s CP may be a bit of a challenge for me. There are only two bottles I’m lemming right now: one’s a blind buy and one I’ve sampled in the past but don’t have access to anymore.
I’m on point in HG Arbolé Arbolé, though. Community Chest wouldn’t get me a FB but it’d buy me two 10ml travel bottles, which I’d happily accept.
My volunteer position ends Friday. I guess I’ll have to find one of those job things soon. Hmmm
Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber
I’m a little LOTV obsessed this year. I’m testing out Jessica McClintock EDT courtesy of Floralgal. It’s quite nice if you like LOTV. Clean, a bit green, fairly sheer.
This could theoretically be my Monopoly $ scent since it’s ridiculously inexpensive.
Also on my list to try is CdG Lily…
I actually went through 3 bottles of JM back in the day. It really is beautiful.
The drydown gets a little bitter on me, but I like it otherwise.
Morning. Have to be quick: my iPad is moribund and my phone is nearly out of charge. Am wearing Fatih Sultan Mehmed: warm, soft, encompassing, a delicate chypre dusted with sugar, stays a skin scent. I love it. It’s very beautiful.
Eric sends his love: he has a berry stain on his elegant nose from helping me with my breakfast. Titus began to lick him clean, but obviously got distracted. Titus doesn’t have huge powers of concentration. Alexander is mountaineering in the wardrobe. I must fetch the water pistol to discourage him… be well, all.
I had a look at the website for these scents and I thought the perfumes sounded great but they didn’t always connect very well to their names and the little stories . I mean the perfume nites went in one direction, and the stories in the opposite direction.
There’s meant to be snow on the hills..the first of the year…but it’s too dark outside to see if it’s there. It is cold though. I was working at the kitchen table yesterday watching a sleek brown mouse pop out from behind the dog kennel on the deck, and have a good sniff around. I am constantly amazed by the clockwork like seasonal appearance of birds and mice, how they return to the same place year after year, stay a while and then disappear. I am wearing Dark Horse oil for the monopoly / unicorn/ winston churchill ( dark hour with a slight ammendment). I prefer pegasus to unicorns …if such a day exists.
I can see snow on the tops! And so it begins…….
Back from Milan since yesterday’s afternoon.
Today in Hermes Eau de Citron Noir. It’s lovely, very short lived but for the time it lasts it perfectly serves its purpose of making me feel more cheerful.
oooh Citron Noir, it is yummy. And the blue bottle with black cap is perfection. I like to sniff that one when I walk through the Nordstrom fragrance department. 🙂
I’m in Isfarkand by Ormond Jayne. It’s basically Siberia here in Jackson, WY until july when we have five minutes of summer then it’s Siberia again.
But awfully pretty! And you smell great.
Today’s SOTD is Theorema Esprit d`Ete by Fendi.
Ooh, could you describe that one, please? And how it relates (or not) to Theorema?
The Esprit d`Ete is more sheer and has more florals/amber, the original Theorema has more dry resins and spices and a distinct spice/orange note. Both have great staying power though.
SmokeyToes, I’m sorry for the late reply, but thank you so much for the description. Wish I’d bought both Theorema and the flanker years ago on the ‘bay. #regret
It’s January the 96th here in Pittsburgh with cold and snow. I’m wearing Apres l’Ondee in defiance.
You poor thing, sounds like such a long winter.
January the 96th — excellent!
As usual, I am late looking at NST.
My SOTD is Tom Ford’s Oud Fleur. It is cold here as well (43 degrees) but at least we didn’t get the snow showers they were predicting. By Friday or Saturday, it’s supposed to be close to 80 degrees. How crazy is that? But as they say about Baltimore…if you don’t like the weather, just wait a few minutes.
We say the same in Michigan, although it pretty much is cold October through April. We say it anyway.
Monopoly SOTD is Flors Nymphea.
Ugh…Flora
Oh, good pick, I didn’t even think of the AAs.
Neither did I Robin. However, it was highly visible when I opened my perfume cabinet this morning. Sort of an “aha” moment. ????
Wearing Jasmin et Cigarettes from a sample I got in the ELdO sale…I’m a bit disappointed. It’s a lovely jasmine, and all, very floral, slightly sweet, barely indolic, but I can’t smell any tobacco OR cigarettes in this. I’ll definitely use the sample, but probably won’t purchase the bottle. Pity, because the 50mL totally works with this week’s under $100 theme.
I don’t get cigarettes either, but I do get a mellow tobacco which smells more like tea to me. Overall, it reminds me of jasmine tea.
The first time I wore it I got faint tobacco and more jasmine. The 2nd time it was more humid out and really got more of the smoke/ burning cigarette smell. So it may be the level of humidity which makes the difference?.. ymmv of course.
I bought this one blind based on perfumelover 67’s comments and really like it. I’ll pull this one out for tomorrow in her honor!
Dear Monday: PHBBBBBLLLLTTTT! (No raspberry emoji that I could find.)
SOTD = Shem-el-Nessim EdP, from the sample stash. Will have to retry this one… not really awake when I put it on.
Today one of my first grader music students was wearing a t-shirt that reads, “OK Monday, let’s get this over with!”
Propers to your student for having a better attitude than I did today. ????
Wow, I meant to post much earlier than this. For the challenge I am wearing BV Eau de Velours, however, this wearing actually talked me out of a purchase. It’s a really lovely perfume, but there is pretty much no projection. And I’ve realized how much I prefer those perfumes that have *some* projection. I even sprayed a lot this morning.
Finally, a project that talked someone out of a purchase!
Yes!
There’s still snow on the hills, but the sun came out today. Finally.
Chypre 21–a bright, easy wear when I’m tired. Silly brain wouldn’t turn off last night after dissertating, and I’ve was zombied all day at work.
Hope you’re getting rest this evening!
A very mixed day has now evened off. Ivoire wasn’t quite up to providing a full day of support, so am having the perfume equivalent to a sugar high with a bit of Malibu Lemon Blossom.
Ha! I like that lemon, but good god!! It is SWEEEET! Enjoy your sugar high✌????
Really late check in…I tried one last time to wear DK Gold, and I just can’t hack it. I like the very far dry down, but can’t make it that far!
I thought maybe I might like it in cooler weather, when it can’t BLOOM so much, but no. Just no. ????
