Thursday scent of the day 3/29

Posted by Robin on 29 March 2018 283 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?

My computer is acting up (I'm on the third restart), and I am still looking for my decant of Monsieur Balmain, by Germaine Cellier. Is it going to be one of those days? If it is, I'm probably going to end up in Ouarzazate. Or I'm going to skip the middleman and go straight for the Black Cherry Chocolate Chip.

Reminder: on 3/30, to honor Women's History Month, wear a fragrance by perfumer Germaine Cellier or Josephine Catapano, if you have one. If you don't, wear a fragrance by any female perfumer.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is from Balmain's Spring Summer 2018 campaign.

    Today is my “reincarnation day”
Little ones sang to me this morning and gave me lots of hugs and kisses.
I am in my favorite Alahiiiiiiine for my special day and my favorite SipoTD green tea, Nocturne Oriental. Will put on a chanel lippy and meet a friend for matcha later today…

They are completely different. Black Cashmere is an incense perfume. Elegant and beautiful, but unfortunately discontinued.
Cashmere Mist is woody and powdery. Liquid Cashmere Black is a syrupy cherry scent. Not my cup of tea.

I still have a few project-relevant perfumes that I haven’t worn yet this week, but they seemed either too wintery (Youth Dew) or summery (Fracas), so I went with VP Mito which smells like a spring garden.

Wow – this is the first morning all week that I’m not running ridiculously late in the morning. Haven’t had time to post any of my fragrance choices so far this week, but you haven’t missed much … although yesterday I discovered that I’ve apparently fallen out of love with Equistrius (ohhh noooooo!). Sprayed Eau des Merveilles over it, and that wasn’t half bad. Anyway, today I’m finally participating in the project, although I can’t seem to find a Cellier or Catapano in my hoard. I’m in Daniela Andrier’s Gucci EDP from 2002ish, and it’s lovely.

Before you decide that perfume doesn’t work for you any longer, try wearing it on different season. Though, if you were talking about PdE’s scent, there might be another explanation: last year I thought exactly the same – and a bit later I realized that my decant of that perfume just turned (it wasn’t obvious immediately). Anyway, good luck with figuring this out.

Thanks Undina – it may just be more of a “deep winter” scent for me. I don’t think it has turned … but will certainly investigate further.

It looks like big stores do not sell it any longer. It’s a good and bad news. Good – it means that whatever is sold everywhere online is the original formulation, not quietly changed by the brand but left in the same packaging; and you can probably get it cheaper now. Bad news part – it probably means that it has been discontinued, and if you wait for too long, it’ll get more expensive.

No Germaine cellier’s in my collection but I have BVLGARI black by annick menardo and a couple of the Prada infusion series by Daniela Andrier which would be good options for this Friday. Today I’m in New York EDT by parfums de nicolai. It’s kind of like a more modern, masculine shalimar. Hope everyone has a great day!

I may have to run to Nordstroms tomorrow for a spray of Fracas , as I have a house twin but not a creation of GC’s!
I am testing Arriveè by Matriach and Epiphany this week. Arriveè is a lovely indolic natural jasmine perfume. It has good longevity and a noticeable dry down. They have some amazing incense selections for the week too – no affiliation.
I am on an incense tear!! Wish I had some Quarzazate right now. There is a candle at Aedes…….

I wouldn’t mind to send you a HUGE decant of Spring (though, to my nose it’s more like Summer): it’s going to be 27C/80F here today! The only hope is that with A/C it will be at least office-friendly.

SotD = Un Jardin sur le Nil

le Nil works best for me in cool weather, so I better wear it now. On hot days it has a slight metallic edge I prefer to avoid.

Ten consecutive days wearing scents from Hermes. Go me!

Wearing a very small spritz of Hermes 24F. Someone here described it as fancy soap yesterday, and that just sounded so appealing this morning. I think I will like this better in warm weather, it loses some of the soapiness then and becomes more floral.

First and most important…. Happy Baseball Opening Day! We all start equal today, Go Tigers! Next important, a perfume disaster for me this morning. I sprayed on my beloved Camilla Intrepide, from a new Sephora sample, and within one minute Perfume Headache! It came on so fast and just awful. I took 4 ibuprofen and took a shower, its subsided some, but it will be a long time before I attempt to wear CI again. On the upside, I now have a legitimate reason to lay on the couch and watch baseball, instead of all the productive things I had originally planned lol ????

          1) We actually DON”T sell water to CA! Many NoCal cities share a watershed with Colorado and Nevada, actually, which is not so great.

          2) You WOULD think water would be cheaper so, but we get all sort of fees tacked on our bills, and reads like BS to me, to be honest.

Sometimes pricing is jacked to cover the cost of infrastructure projects. Maybe that’s what’s going on. Or water is just expensive.

Water is precious and expensive, which is why I do water saving measures! But as my friends pointed out on the bill, my usuage is low, but the fees are VERY high, and are due to infrastructure bills from YEARS before.

You may have a water leak if the amount is way above your normal. Also, was it an estimate or an actual meter reading?

This was the actual meter read. I had already checked for leaks before, back when I had hat roof leak, but that does not then mean that one did not spring up.

Still off theme (the story of my life it seems!) in SB Smoked Ambergris. Never did get any hiking in yesterday because I was in town all day doing “in town stuff.” And it’s still not done since I have to find someplace that has MMR boosters, grrrr!

Otherwise beautiful breezy day full of sunshine. It seems odd to not have to burrow down into my 0 degree sleeping bag. Now that I’m back in the land of sunshine I have noticed two things: 1) I’ve chunked up nicely and 2) my feet are in a shambles! So, time to buckle down on caloric intake and expenditure! I also whipped out the microplane and foot care stuff yesterday to get sandal ready.

My next contact starts 4/9 and I would really like to have the week before out in the woods somewhere with no work related appointments. We’ll see how that goes…

Hello, dear NSTers. I’m in the lovely Vanira Moorea from the generous flopper today. It’s not helping me de-stress, though.

A perfume package from eBay was supposedly delivered to a parcel locker for me yesterday at 2:48 pm, but when I got home, there was nothing in my mailbox–no package, no key to one of the larger lockers, no code to the automated package locker. I’ve tried calling USPS a number of times, but the automated system doesn’t have anything helpful to say besides that the package was delivered. How do I talk to a person to get them to help me find the package??? And what recourse do I have on eBay if a package SAYS it’s been delivered but is nowhere to be found?

This is not what you want to hear, but from my experience you have very little recourse if the tracking history shows delivered but you didn’t actually receive it. USPS will be of little to no help, unless you get lucky. And years ago when this happened to me on eBay, there was no help in the matter. The seller had done their part in shipping with tracking but USPS messed up.

I had this happen about 6 weeks ago on a purchase from a fellow perfume lover on FB (a great deal on a partial bottle of Anubis!). I think it was delivered to the wrong address. I left a note for my mail carrier with the tracking number explaining the situation, but the package has never made its way to me. ????

Oh no! I think the seller or eBay is more likely to help you than the post office. Also, did you double-check the address you had it sent to? I know that sounds obvious but PayPal autocomplete has tripped me up in the past.

Aside from that I can’t offer much but sympathy! Tell us what was supposed to be in it so we can at least sympathize properly.

It’s l’Artisan Parfumeur Venenum, in one of those gorgeous bee bottles :( :( :( :( :( I am very, very sad. I was really looking forward to it.

Yes! Well, both. It was not a cheap bottle (it’s Venenum), but ALSO I was looking forward to it. And ALSO it’s really souring me on eBay :( between this and another bottle I ordered over the weekend that still hasn’t been shipped.

You can try calling eBay and see what they say. If they’re not helpful, I’d call PayPal and see if you can get a refund. If you use PayPal a lot, they’re likely to give you a refund. It’s worth trying…

The Universe has spoken! I have had delivery issues and once lost money on a Posh Peasant package that was misdelivered by my local mailman. I called the local post office and the mailman went to the house and left a note but the folks never responded to his request to return the package even though it had been tracked as being delivered there by GPS. The local post office told me to contact the vendor (Posh Peasant) to file a claim but she refused to so I was out the money. What I should have done was contact my credit card company and tell them not to pay her but I didn’t. However, I also took that as a sign to stop buying perfume. :(

a point in the other direction: i had a package that showed as being delivered to my apartment, when it hadn’t been. i happened to be home when the mailman was delivering, and let him know the situation. he told me that it had been a different mail person that day, and that he would look into it. a couple days later, the package was delivered! so definitely either call or go in and talk to someone!

I’m so sorry this happened: what a helpless feeling. I’ve never had the exact thing occur but I’ve had problems with delivery of swaps. So far things have worked out o.k. I go to the post office that services my part of the city. I am VERY NICE, calm friendly when speaking with the clerk. This usually gets a good response because they are used to people being angry with them. Ask nicely if they will look in back for you.

Also, I’ve had amazon packages marked as delivered that arrived a day or two later.

Good luck. I hope the package still makes its way to you.

Well, in hopes of maintaining a bit of positivity, I sent a package to an NSTer (Flopper, I think) and it was never scanned and tracked after leaving my local post office. I think it was almost 3 weeks later it finally showed up…So, don’t give up and get bitter and scurrilous about the USPS, like I did! :D

Three weeks, wow! I’ll try not to get bitter. A kind NSTer sent me a package, and the tracking info said it was like…in review or something two weeks later. She sent me a second, similar package, which arrived in just a few days. Then a few weeks later, the original package finally arrived! So, yeah, I’ll cross my fingers.

Hello, NST. Best of good mornings to all. And thank you for welcoming me back so warmly— I caught up with everyone’s posts really late in the afternoon and my quick time calculations suggested all sensible people in the other hemisphere would be asleep, so I didn’t post again. Here it’s already Good Friday, and I must say I’ve never been so happy to see a long weekend arrive. The education sector in A-NZ gets the Tuesday after Easter as well, so yay! Five days I have a couple of fiestas planned, but more siestas.

I’m not on track for the project this week, but I am enjoying Traversee du Bosphore very much. It’s sweet and easy and fun, but still quite interesting. It will be lovely for a long walk through the still of the morning. Our summer is grimly persevering and looking a bit tattered now, butvin the very early morning and the evening, if you look hard. You can see the promise of autumn and cooler weather. TdB seems to me to be a perfume for cool weather perfume.

I’m really enjoying smelling nice. I even wore perfume to bed last night! I have a plan to revisit Upper Ten to see if I really do like it as much as my first contact told me I did. I will hesitate to buy, though: it’s 400 eye watering dollars for a bottle!

So, I should go and feed the felines. Eric arrived about three minutes ago dragging Laslo Bear (bigger than he is), and is now sitting on my feet gazing at me fixedly. I think that’s his “What about some bunny for my inner Eric?” look. It behoves me to get up and attend to his needs.

    Be well, all

We are having a beautiful autumn down here with still, crisp mornings. The trees are turning and dropping their leaves, and the rose bushes are covered in rosehips, craggy old crabapples are bright red, the bracken is a beautiful rust colour, lots of conkers on the ground beneath the chestnuts.
      Have a good break!

Ed Sheeran is playing three concerts in Dunedin and that means that the population of the city has literally doubled as 105 000 fans roam through town. It’s like a royal visit with special landscaping added to the streets, a big mural of his face on a building, shop windows with ginger haired mannequins , egg sheeran specials in cafes. I’m afraid I couldn’t even name an Ed Sheeran song though I can sort of get the vibe of ‘I’m ok, you’re ok too, but better’. Everyone is happy so it’s cool. I loved the weed day yesterday and paid hommage to all the weeds in my collection ….blackberry, rye, bracken….as I did my morning walk on the hill. Sprocket insists I throw pinecones but it’s still so dark at 7 that he can’t see them and we spend ages sniffing them out (him nit me) Dogs! Micro managers with tails. Honey and Crocus for me on this Good Friday. Happy easter!

One of my colleagues went to Ed Shearin’s concert and summed it up as “Meh”. I tried to look as though I knew what she was “meh-ing” about, but I don’t think I did a convincing job. I was trying for an expression that suggested informed and engaged sympathy ( sooo expensive! how disappointing!) but I think I probably just looked confused.

I”m wearing Boucheron Initial from an old, old bottle. I unearthed it while I was looking for Zen, thinking I had the original one, but mine is the Zen in the white oddly-shaped bottle, not the black one, but its being white is why I found myself reaching for Initial instead…. I know, long story! Both of those go way back including the white bottle Zen. I used to love Initial, and it’s still quite nice, though I think mine is a bit off by now. I seem to have a poor representation of fragrances by female perfumers, but have a couple I’m saving for Friday.

Fighting what seem to be allergies and a bad night’s sleep (finally gave up the struggle at about 1:45 am and got up and read for an hour…)

I dove into the box of scents my sister left and decided to spray on a Couvent des Minimes Orange Blossom Skin Softening Floral Water. Based on some online research, this bottle may be about 10 years old… it’s actually very nice. Was realistic and dry rather than sweet awhile ago when I sprayed. Seems to be getting a bit sweeter. Trying to figure out how to get this home with me, since I only have carry on (yes, it’s a month long visit with just carry on…) I could leave it here, but have to tell the other sister to not steal it.

The Long Weekend is Here! Well here in Australia it is and hopefully it’s not too far away for the rest of you as well. I am sitting in bed with coffee and a small warm tuxedo cat curled in my lap catching up on blogs. Inspired by Easter I am wafting Fort & Manle’s Charletan’s dark chocolate-truffley roses while I scoff toasted hot cross buns and listening to my seven year old boy hilariously voice all the characters in the game he is playing with himself in the next room. SOTD = Anniebelles Rose, from Soivohle. Yep, I’m back on the wagon again! This is a beautiful, sorta fruity rose scent. Sometimes the roses are pink, and sometimes they are yellow. It’s a great match for the ridiculously warm weather (for my area) that has rolled in. ???? ???? ????

Robin, sorry to hear that you are having computer issues today! Sounds like the Sam Kinison scream could come in handy…

Did not have a SOTD until I got my swap package from the lovely Kelly and am trying Slow Explosions from Imaginary Authors. A very elegant, leathery rose. Something I would never have thought to try myself, but it is really pretty. Also indulging in toasted blueberry Poptarts and coffee on a drizzly afternoon.

I haven’t had a Poptart in ages, although I do make it a point to check out the available flavors. In my mental ranking, the worst one so far is Fanta Orange. Oh shudder.

    Very late to the party!

SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue

Woman perfumer ✅ (Daniella Andrier). I was inspired by what Robin wore yesterday.

It’s a workday for me tomorrow. I know which perfume I am going to wear tomorrow; it’s a fun one!

Thank you. I, ummm, used 7 sprays and whoa, the vanilla came out to play from top to bottom.

Late check in….again. Participating in the CP in Juste un Reve, by one of my favorite female perfumers, Patricia de Nicolaï.

Thanks to Kelly and the swapmeet, I’m trying something completely different from my usual scent style, and I like it!
