Another Monday, plus Chocolate Caramel Day. The swapmeet is going strong, and will be open until a week from tomorrow — you still have plenty of time if you want to join in. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu to match Pantone Little Boy Blue.
Reminder: on 3/23, to celebrate the equinox, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's colors from the Spring 2018 report for New York.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Cold cold cold here today, so I’m warming myself with SL Arabie.
That’s something that I don’t reach for too often. Maybe I should dig out the bottle and start wearing it.
Mmmm you smell great!
Ha! I had the same idea about Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu.
But today I am wearing SL Fleurs d’Oranger, a rather loose interpretation of Cherry Tomato.
No cherry or tomato in it, but I think the color is fitting, and so is its decription: “Demanding attention, this courageous, never to be ignored, shade is viscerally alive.”
It’s the easy way out, the Bvlgari! Yours is more cerebral
Cold, damp day here in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean .
Wearing Chanel Cuir de Ruisse EDT to match PANTONE 14-4202
Harbor Mist. I see this scent as a cold, slightly bleak scent, with a slight undercurrent of warmth – jus like the colour.
I awoke to see 3 silly puppy bellies and 1 paws wiggling as my greyhounds all dreamed, seemingly in unison. Not a bad way to begin a Monday.
Puppy bellies and paws!! This is the very best way to wake up.
So cute! I woke up in the middle of the night with a furry hat. Puppy sleeping above my head on the pillow, rolled onto her back demanding a belly rub. I love it.
That should be 12 paws waving
????❤️!
What do you mean, the middle of the Atlantic? Are you on a cruise or something??
I don’t quite get the assortment of seemingly random colors chosen this year by the Pantone Color Institute. Don’t they usually choose just one or two at most? You chose the prettiest one in the group for today, Robin, and your perfume choice is perfect, even if au The Bleu was a complete fail on me.
We went from 70 on Saturday to a snowstorm yesterday evening, so I chose AA Erdenstern today. It is mostly opoponax and tobacco on me, and is very warm and soft. Those notes align well with the color Emperador on this year’s Pantone list, so I’ll happily pretend that I planned today’s SOTD based on that
pretending still gets points!
I think that chartreuse on the bottom is rather vile. I don’t have anything on yet and will have to ponder the scent/color match-ups. But I thought I’d offer up this link to a fashion blog entry–I read this blog regularly as it’s quite fun–it’s about the spring fashion colors, which they call “Crayola” colors–and some of the above ones, especially cherry tomato, are definitely here. https://tomandlorenzo.com/2018/03/translating-trends-spring-2018-whole-crayola-box-colors/
For the fashion report, it’s usually a pretty big group. There will be another group for the fall.
I do think I see a lot of that green called Arcadia in the spring fashions, a rather bright minty green with blue undertones. I’m trying to envisage a perfume with that color as its feeling. Hmmm. I’m sure to come up with something!
That’s exciting! I’m always looking for clothes in that color.
Guerlain’s BdR to match Arcadia
Had a busy busy weekend, as we celebrated Nowruz and I hosted some guests. I made an appetizer, 3 dishes, a cheese course and dessert. Finished off the mint tea, which was much needed. Exhausted today…
That does sound exhausting! You need a weekend from your weekend.???? Hope you get some r&r today!
Yes, its amazing how much time an effort you put into a dish and then it get eaten so fast..
The only leftovers I have is a tiny bit of Shirin Polo and a bit of cheese…
Oh, Shirin Polo is delicious!!!
I’m constantly amazed at how much you manage to get done, with two toddlers underfoot!
Me too! I do a lot while they nap and Mr. L takes them to the park or errands while I am in the kitchen cooking away…
I just want to come eat at your house all the time!
AH! Do you like Persian food?
I love ALL food, and yes, Persian food as well! I have a hard time thinking of any food I don’t like!
There’s a Persian restaurant here I love but I’m sure yours is even better!
SotD is Tam Dao. Edt on the left and edp on the right. I wore them separately over the weekend and today I will decide which version goes on the buy list. The edp seemed to have more sillage and lasting power, I think it will be the winner.
I think it’s the winner too, I just want it to be edt priced. There seems to be quite the difference. Also, either way, you smell fabulous!
Yes-my thoughts exactly! I think it’s odd the edt is offered in 50 and 100ml, and the edp comes only in 75ml.????I want half that much (at half the price lol).
Thank you!
I have a travel sized edp up for swap —> go look!
I’m with you on the EDP over the EDT, I grumbled about the higher price and then bought it anyway. It layers so nicely too, anything vanilla or rose is perfect with it.
Ooh, I will keep that in mind about the layering!
You smell soooo wonderful!
Thank you! I am really loving it and can’t believe it’s taken me until now to try it. So many perfumes, so little time. *sigh*
SotD Diptyque Fleur de Peau. It may be a good match for Almond Mauve – “With its gentle petal like touch, delicate and ephemeral Almost Mauve adds a sense of nostalgia to the spring 2018 palette”
According to fragrantica, notes include aldehydes, pink pepper, ambrette, rose, iris, ambergris and musk. I seem to be able to detect every single one of them, though the aldehydes and pink pepper are predominent on me. It is like a lighter, more contemporary Chanel No 5 that is more sophisticated than No 5 l’eau, and also reminds me of PdE Le Cri. I like this very much
House twin! That one sounds really nice.
That sounds extremely tempting!
that sounds really good!
Perfect match!! Fleur de Peau is definitely some shade of white in my mind. You smell wonderful, and I also agree with your comparison to Le Cri!
Matching Pantone Emperador with the delicious Jo Malone Orange Bitter and Chocolate. Having a cup of black tea and the last of the girl scouts cookies. Happy Monday NST!
Ha! Glad you enjoyed those cookies ☺
I did! ????
you are enjoying those cookies!!! Jealous
Sending some! ☕????☕????
I really enjoy that scent
It is very yummy!
Sounds like you made it a good morning! ???? ☕
Super busy! But “some” sweets always help! ????☕????
I joined you in the sweets this morning. Definitely makes a busy morning more bearable, but gosh they make me tired!
Someone brought some Thin Mints cookies in the afternoon, but I did resist the temptation. Gosh! it was difficult! ????
Wearing Oeillet Bengale from an evaporating decant (eeks!). Not a great match, but Almost Mauve might do.
I have lots to catch up on re. the Swap Meet. Hope to post some decant offerings this evening.
Be well, all!
Almost Mauve is a hard one. I was thinking TDC De Bachmakov, or Lolita Lempicka L’Eau en Blanc.
Oh, I think that captures L’Eau en Blanc quite well. It’s also the color I visualize with Narciso edp (white cube,) and happens to work for my SOTD, MMM Lipstick On.
(I would make slight tweaks for each though: a touch more purple for L’EeB, a hint more grey for Narciso, and slightly more pink for Lipstick On.)
TBH, I chose my perfume this morning without remembering this week’s theme at all. But L’Eau en Blanc and Lipstick On do seem to be great “interpretations” of Almost Mauve , and I’ll wear them this week, if my memory cooperates…
Still wearing the pita heart monitor ????. Makes it a little hard to dress, and actually want to look nice. But trying my best. I’m wearing Noir de Noir today, it’s been awhile, since I’ve found I’m hoarding it, which, I know is dumb. Anyway, matching it with the brown emperador color.
That PITA heart monitor better be reporting that your ticker is just fine!! You smell fabulous.
Thanks, I got 2 more tests after this one, but I think those don’t require me to do anything. Thank goodness.
I hope your results are boringly normal! ❤️❤️
+1 Lillyjo
Thank you!
If not, you can come to Michigan and be my nurse???? I’m telling you, camping galore! Just stay to the west of the capitol! Heck, take the kids.. lol????
I’ll let T-Rex entertain the kids. She’ll run them ragged ????
Not much longer to deal with that heart monitor, is it?
10 more days, I think. Ugh…
Hope everything checks out ok! My husband went through that battery of tests a few years ago because he was having dizzy spells.
That’s been one of my symptoms as well.
I bought a mini of au The Bleu last month and I’ve been enjoying it a lot – very easy to wear.
It’s unseasonably chilly this morning, so I’m finishing of my sample of Eau Duelle. Doesn’t smell ‘blue’ but nice in the cool air!
I was just discussing with a pal how I see that scent as a summer one, and she sees it as a winter one. Try it when it’s hot!
Vanilla + warm weather is usually a no-go for me, but I have a new bottle of Vanilla Flash that I’m planning on trying in the summer. Maybe I’ll have a change of heart!
I always thought the same but wore Gourmand Coquin a ton last summer and LOVED it in warm weather.
It’s dry and spicy like a gin and tonic
I am wearing Hoodie Melange (can’t remember who here came up with that though!) after a productive Sunday of sampling, decanting for swaps, and also digging into more goodies from splitmeet. The strongest seems to be leftovers of Fruitchouli Flash which I am enjoying as much now as I did last night. I didn’t think ahead about this week’s theme so I’m likely going to piggyback on some other ideas I see already popping up from all of you. That Pantone blue is awfully pretty; are those dyed shamrocks in the middle photo?
Love Hoodie Melange! I’ve been taking an internet break for a while and missed the original ????
Hmmm… Just tried a dab of Penhaligon Much Ado About the Duke and I think I’m now in PANTONE 18-1440 Chili Oil! Not because of chili but because of the color. This is a different kind of rose than I’ve had before, very rich and deep. I think I like it!
My guess is they are hydrangea flowers – they are often that shade of blue.
Yes, hydrangeas. Evidently the color of the petals is influenced by the acidity/alkalinity of the soil (or so a landscape architect told me.)
Ah yes – I’ve heard this before too!
Oh! I see that now! I was looking at it differently. Hydrangeas makes sense!
Lol – I wear ‘FitBit band melange’ along with chosen scent every day . . .
ha! me too
Ditto! Also watchband melange on the other wrist
I’m working hard on not transferring my perfumes to my Fitbit band since I do not know how scent absorbing it is :). I don’t know for how long I’ll be able to do that though.
I have managed it for years now! I don’t tend to use my wrists for scent anyway.
The color palette does seem a bit chaotic, or maybe it’s just me. Arcadia is a green that I wore a lot in the 80s.
We have had several beautiful cool early spring days and I’m wearing Arpege, can’t think of a color match for it but it’s beautiful
Have a good Monday everyone.
Love vintage Arpege which I think of as an autumn colored scent.
you smell wonderful! I like the color palette, but I am sort of chaotic
maybe Arpege could match up to Meadlowlark. The bight yellow sort of matches the golden figures on of the mother & daughter, and the sparkly-ness of the aldehydes, and the meadowlark is a song bird, and Arpege is a musical reference.
Oh that’s so well thought out! Sounds perfect
????????????????
My SOTD is CdG Hinoki.
Oh I’m very curious about this one, as I love the smell of hinoki wood. Can you tell me how authentic it is? Pretty one-note, I’m guessing…also, I’ve heard some things about poor lasting power. Would you agree?
CdG Monocle Hinoki: The notes are listed as cypress, turpentine, camphor, cedar, thyme, pine, Georgian wood, frankincense, moss and vetiver. I sprayed two tiny sprays this morning (as I get called down for wearing perfume all the time) and I can still smell it after five hours.
Thank you, it sounds absolutely delicious. And good that it lasts, too! I think a sample might be on the horizon for me…
Masque Milano Mandala for this cool crisp Monday. Can’t tell exactly what shade of blue that is but I personally love periwinkle.
I just read about that one. The notes sound wonderful !
Periwinkle is a favorite of mine too.
I love that shade of blue as well. I painted an apartment I lived in that color and it became known as the “Periwinkle Palace.”
(It couldn’t have been further from a palace – it was a studio. It was also visible from the street despite being a few floors up. After moving, I used to drive by occasionally and was always happy to see its new resident(s) kept the paint color
)
Ack! Monday! Up and at ‘em early today in SSS Yin&Ylang which is warming up my cold, cold soul!
Past three mornings I have gotten texts from the hospital (that just cancelled all their travel nurse contracts) begging for help. ????Hmmmm…
Hope everyone has a fabulous Monday!
what are you going to do? Are you going to help the hospital?
Can’t work without a contract. I’m not sure if they know that or not, but my pay (and many other details) are in the contract, which is between myself and my agency. I get paid out of the pay package, which is a result of the agency’s contract with the hospital. It’s very complex and convoluted. So no, I’m not working for free. ????
Good decision! >:o
That’s what I thought! ????
So sorry to hear about your contract situation, Deva!
Thanks, but it’s all good! Just tedious as I’m just spinning my wheels until I sign on the dotted line…????
Good luck in dealing with the tedium and B.S.!
Good morning everyone,
I’m in Sacrebleu and to me, that fits maybe kinda the ultraviolet Pantone. Caught myself after 2 sprays and stopped – but I think one spray would have been the perfect amount. I’ll get there yet. Had much fun with the swap meet this weekend – better find me some more bubble wrap!
That’s the perfect color choice for that one!
I am almost out of bubble wrap and padded envelopes and 100% out of boxes (!) Astonishing considering how much I shop online. I usually end up tossing half of the packaging that comes in the door since I’ve got such a massive backstock. Not anymore!
I’m on vacation this week and am commando so far today, but I wanted to share a scent experience from last evening. There’s a lemon tree and a grapefruit tree in the yard next door, and one of them is in bloom. At first I thought I was smelling jasmine, but as time went on I noticed a kind of orange-blossom-y note. It was lovely! I think it must be the lemon tree.
I loooooove the scent of citrus tree blossoms- lemon, orange, whatever. One of my happiest childhood memories were the groves behind us in Florida and the associates smells!
That is my favorite thing about Florida. So sad that such a large portion have died off. My neighbors had a kumquat tree that was just opposite my kitchen window- beautiful to see and smell when it bloomed!
YAY SheriG that’s exactly what started me down the rabbit hole! Sitting under anAcacia Tree in full bloom (called a Huachuca tree in Arizona) and walking past the bitter orange trees outside my window while on Vacation!!!!! When the breezes hit it was wafting everywhere and I like you thought it was jasmine, even the flowers are similar. It was just perfect tree sillage
as they warmed all day in the sun. I would stand there in the evening breezes just breathing it all in. . I am building a greenhouse here now in the DC area and THAT will be my first tree!
Yay Twins! Enjoy it for me!
Enjoy your vaca!
Ahhh, lucky you! You must make friends with the neighbors so that you can eat some of the fruits.
Incidentally, I was just remembering yesterday that my aunt used to send oranges from her trees (in CA) at christmastime, and was wondering why she stopped. Someone also used to send gargantuan lemons but I don’t recall who – it may have been my sister, when she lived in AZ. They were so sweet that they were best eaten peeled – similar to the flavor of a meyer lemon except that they were bigger than grapefruits.
Enjoy your vacation! ???? ???? Sounds like it is smelling great so far.
I’ve never smelled grapefruit blossoms! I’m very curious how those compare to lemon/orange blossoms
The one time I smelled grapefruit blossoms, I thought that they were definitely BWFs with a sizable hit of indoles. Almost narcotic in their intensity. It’s been too long since I have smelled lemon blossoms, so I can’t mentally compare the two. If there is a botanical garden with a conservatory or greenhouse near you, that might be a good opportunity to go sniffing.
Well, I live in CA, so I’m surrounded by citrus trees! They are mostly orange, lemon, pomelo, or clementine trees, but I think if I hunt around for a while, I’ll find a couple grapefruit trees. I’ll probably see a grapefruit tree in the wild before I get to the botanical garden!
Wearing vintage Dioressence this morning. After I get out of the shower, I think I might wear Chamade or Deneuve. I ordered the gift of Prime an hour ago because I wanted to use the gift card balance that I had. I checked out and everything was hunky dory until I tried to apply it to my account. Amazon won’t let me apply it to my account. They are telling me that I am already a Prime member and they could give me a gift card. I get that today is the last day I have Prime but I want the gift of Prime applied to my account now. I probably will have to wait until tomorrow to apply the Prime and I’m not exactly happy with Amazon.
I was eyeing a bottle of Dioressence last night. Do you know how vintage compares to the new. I’m sure vintage is way better. Frustrating with the Amazon Prime. I had a free trial thinking some orders would be shipped overnight, but was charged shipping on one (which Amazon waived when I called). I guess not everything ships overnight? Good luck with your Prime!
I haven’t tried the new Dioressence but it is similar to the vintage Miss Dior. That over ripe almost rotting fruit, restrained skank but both are still chypres. Thanks about Amazon Prime but I think that I might retry tomorrow and if I get problems, I will be sure to call them and state how unhappy I have been lately with them.
I bet Amazon will make it right. Thank you for your feedback about the Dior. Might have to do some sniffing!!
Free shipping is only on Prime items, or from marketplace sellers who offer free shipping. Overnight shipping is only free with Prime Free One-Day items. Regular Prime shipping is 2-day, and only on items marked Prime.
2-day shipping generally excludes weekends, and generally only applies if you order by a certain time of day. They have gotten better with the 2-day shipping now that they use local gig-economy type delivery drivers, though.
Not that I, uh, shop on amazon much…
Not much ????
Oh good to know!! I was confused, and it didn’t help that I thought last Wednesday was the 21st!!
I wore vintage Tabac Blond yesterday, nearly died of happiness, and woke up today wanting something lighter/fresher to balance it, so am wearing Diorella.
Well, If you’re going to nearly die, that’s the very best way to go????????
Wearing Dusita’s Erawan this morning, which would most closely match Pantone’s Arcadia.
I think I like it because it is very similar to Issara, but with more vanilla and suede in the base. Hoping to love it equally or more as the price point is projected to be waaaaayyyy more affordable.
I need to try this one. I have been really impressed with her work (and discouraged by the prices
)
No joke about the cost! Issara has been at the top of my FB for the past couple years, but I just cannot bring myself to spend that kind of money.
A bunch of perfume sites ran articles back in November stating Dusita was going to release travel atomizers, but when I contacted the company, they said they weren’t going to do them anymore. Fingers crossed they change their minds, I would buy a couple!
Many of us would buy a couple!
In Dusita’s Sillage Le Blanc.
House twins! You smell great!
I’m wearing Diptyque Volutes today, which I guess could match with the brown shade, Emperador.
Ah, I might wear that one this week.
I think my choice for the day is between Almost Mauve and Pink Lavender. I’m wearing my beloved and long discontinued (it was limited edition anyway) L’Artisan L’eau du Fleuriste. Since I was making a decant for Regina last week, I knew I had to wear it soon. Notes of mint, rose, cucumber, violet leaves, chamomile, and beeswax.
I didn’t manage to post in the lazy weekend poll because all my attention went to the swap meet and to weekend activities, but on St. Patty’s day I wore Green, Green, Green, and Green from my new bottle. I love having a bottle of it!
I meant to also say that almost as soon as I got to work I put on a cardigan that I keep here, and now my arms smell like a mix of the amber perfumes I wore last week. I can only smell Fleuriste when I sniff down my shirt!
Prada Infusion d’Iris today
I need to wear that this week too!
It’s chilly here this morning and was craving Noir de Noir and I am matching it to Chili Oil. I actually think that’s a great color for it- it’s a dark, rich, earthy rose.
And I was thinking I might not own a single fragrance the color of Chili Oil!
SotD is Fille en Aiguilles
Its cold but sunny today!
Wenhad a very very busy weekend, no time for our Amouage sample project. Hopefully we will find some time to continue it tomorrow.
Angel would go great with the color, but today I’m wearing 24F Parfum vintage from the gold bijoux case. One of the better eBay buys. Have a great Monday!!
Ooooohhh I bet that smells great. I’ve never tried the parfum but love the edp.
I think both are pretty similar, and I like the EDP best – I had been wanting that case presentation when I first saw it back in the mid-2000s but never bought it.
Started the day with Aedes Cierge de Lune but since then have done some decanting so I’m a mess of smells but dominate is Séville à l’aube.
Gorgeous blue! And hydrangea is one of my favorites.
You are smelling great today!
I think that periwinkle/hydrangea blue is my fave of the bunch. You smell wonderful today!
It’s really such a lovely color and reminds me of my home out on Eastern Long Island.. hydrangea is very popular and that blue is used a lot in the Hamptons.
I’m always jealous of the blue hydrangeas you have on the East Coast – our soil is not acidic enough (or alkaline?) so we only get purple. Much less impressive…
Testing Commodity Nectar today. Not sure if I like it. I was going for lemony-citrusy and it doesn’t quite fit what I was going for. On the blotter it was fabulous, all lemons and oranges. On my skin though, it went straight to linden and honeysuckle. It’s nice, just not what I was looking for.
Anyone know of a bright citrus that’s not a cologne? I’m looking for something with some staying power.
Orange Sanguine stays with me for most of a day, and it packs a punch. Also available at most Sephoras.
Thanks, the reviews sound like just what I’m looking for! I’m going to have to give it a try.
I have had good luck with the staying power of Mandarine Glaciale (also by Atelier Cologne)
AG Eau du Sud? I get grapefruit pith from it, but there’s lots of lime, too. It wears very well on me for a citrus.
Atelier Colognes makes dozens of citruses but they all end up smothering me in spices, which is not what I’m into. Nor do I like a chypre-leaning citrus.
I’ve been trying to find something that smells like Love’s Fresh Lemon for ages, to no avail. I wonder if we’re hunting down similar paths?
Sounds like maybe
In the category of Why Must I Fall For The Expensive Ones: Xerjoff 1861 Renaissance. Sweet juicy orange; the best citrus opening ever. Probably not quite the Love’s Lemon that kpaint is after. Others say it goes to spices including fennel so it may not be what you want either, but it does last decent for me which is something. The citrus opening is fleeting but incredible.
Oh! A post below jogged my memory – VCA California Reverie. It smells like orange groves to my nose. Not great projection or longevity (though not as bad as most citruses), but I get lots of citrus – soft and airy rather than zesty. It’s often referred to as a jasmine perfume, but I’ve tried and tried to pick out jasmine and cannot find it.
Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom is another one. It’s a bit too sharp and green for my own citrus fantasies, but again, I am comparing to childhood memories of Love’s.
A few more:
Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte smells like fresh lemons to me. It is sheer and transparent, a bit like sniffing a bowl of lemons. I also get a puff of white powder, but that’s more visual than olfactory. Projection and longevity are poor – I really have to drench myself in it – but it is charming. (And quite far removed from its pillar, Cristalle.)
Tocca Bianca – lots of lemons mixed with white sugar = lemonade. Admittedly, I haven’t worn this in a long while so my perceptions might be different nowadays.
Fresh Sugar Lemon – similar to the Tocca, but with brown sugar and a very prominent green note. I think I’ve only smelled a lotion version, though.
Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri – smelled to me like San Pellegrino Aranciata soda (minus the bubbles) with a slug of Campari. So a little bit on the bitter/grapefruit citrus spectrum.
Sorry to be so random and disjointed, but other citruses I’ve tried keep popping into my head
I really like OdlR’s Sargasso. It has lemon and petitgrain notes (the petitgrain really stands out on me) and is the most long-lasting citrus I’ve tried.
It’s pricey for a citrus, but I really like Le Labo Bergamote 22. It’s bright, tart, with a hint of green and lasts almost all day on me. Maybe some of tbe Nicolai Eaus. I like Eau d’Ete a lot.
Parfum d’ Empire Azemour les Orangers
Profumum Acqua Viva – Lemon!!! but you have to spray more to make it last longer
If you are in the U.S., I will send you samples of these two. Click on my name to get my email address.
SOTD Chanel no 5 edt, for a professional look. Had an early am meeting that was filmed for some PR video for our facility. I think I was the only one in my dept who didn’t get my hair done for the occasion. I did brush it especially, though. Anyway, Pantone Meadowlark (? Can’t read the name) yellow. No 5 edt is all mellow yellow to me.
I wouldn’t think to get my hair done either..good grief Charlie Brown
Good grief is right!
Some versions of Chanel No 5 smell golden to me – the EdT being a peachy gold, the extrait being pure sunshine gold.
Peachy gold is a good description. I think the color of the actual juice plays a part in what color things smell like to me.
Eau d’hiver which is “almost mauve,” in feeling if not scent. There’s nothing really purple about either.
But clear, cool, and suitable for scent-averse environments.
Yes — great match, I like it.
Guerlain Baiser de Russie today from the wonderful hajusuuri. It smelled great at first but had disappeared from my skin by the end of the first hour
maybe I’ll have to apply with a heavier hand next time.
Oh, you smell/smelled lovely!
you smell lovely..
Spray abundantly!
More is more with this one!
When do you NOT say that??
LOL. Less is more for Arabian Oud Kalemat (1 – 1.5 spritizes is enough to last all day and stays beautiful…anything more than that is too much)
Good morning everyone! I’m in Eric Buterbaugh Velvet Lavender, from a Scentbird order. It most closely resembles Almost Mauve, rather than Pink Lavender, as it’s a very soft little thing that hangs close to the skin. I suspect I’m anosmic to something here, as it’s very lavender/vanillic on me. No clary sage or musk to my nose.
If you’re looking for a fragrance to help you reset, or just nice for the office, this is one to try.
I hope everyone is having a great Monday.
Have a good week!
I’m not matching up with any of the colors, but I’m very happy with the new, DIY Kulfi perfume I’m wearing today. I had a lovely, relaxing Sunday, and spent some of the time riffling through my box of essential oils, and putting together this combo: cardamom, saffron, sandalwood, vanilla, and coconut. I smell delicious.
Sounds super. We have been mixing spices to make syrups for soda water and the standouts have been orange, lemon, cardamon and tumeric with a bit of palm sugar. The cardamon and tumeric are great together.
Kanuka, I bet that cardamom and turmeric combo makes a soda with a gorgeous color. I’ve been making a lot of soup lately using freshly grated turmeric, and the resulting broth is lovely.
The spices don’t really dissolve but settle in the bottom of the glasss…but it tastes good. It’s a bit of an interactive drink as the lemon zest floats around . We have also tested lemon, lavender and mint (just from the garden) and that was also good.
Wow! Sounds yummy.
Ohhhh, that sounds delightful! Are you able to share the recipe or is it more complicated?
Coin-op, are you asking me or Kanuka? If me, I’d be happy to send you a decant, to see if you like it (plus the recipe, of course). Were you one of the peeps who liked the L’Aromatica Kulfi? I seem to recall a brief conversation here on NST about it a little while back.
Yes, L’aromatica Kulfi is on my wish list, and I believe on Koyel’s too. I would love to try your perfume! I’ll email you
Oh I see I am not the first person to ask you this! Haha
Yes, l’Aromatica Kulfi is very high on my list!
Oh please oh PLEASE tell me how you made this! Kulfi is the best! I want to smell like kulfi always!!!
I went Sballo today as I hadn’t worn it in a while. I think it most closely matches Chili Oil as this is a aromatic, woody, herbal geranium scent.
I’m wearing JM Honey and Crocus. The smell puts me in mind of when Alex makes his big batch of muesli and there are trays of oats and shredded coconut and nuts drizzled in honey gently toasting in the oven
Smelling delicious! I really like this one. How about you?
Yes I like it and can see it replacing Mimosa and cardamon as an easy-wearing favourite.
Question — do vanilla frags degrade fast? Has anyone had problems with Van Cleef and Arpels Extraordiaire bottles degrading?
Eeesh…I sure hope not. ???? what have you experienced please?
My samples turned really quick for this brand (and the OV turned really really dark in color).
Adding that I can count on two hands the number of turned samples by other brands that I have experienced, not counting poorly sealed handmade samples and decants.
Hmm. I have 2 bottles of VCA Extraordinaires (a couple of years old, one stored in box, the other not, neither purchased new) and haven’t had any of the issues you’ve mentioned. Neither is OV, though.
I’ve also had multiple VCA E decants over the years without any problems. Where did you get yours? Maybe the bottles had been stored improperly and were about to turn – or the sample vials weren’t clean or something? Or they sat in hot conditions in transit and boiled? It’s odd that they all turned quickly.
I bought a VCA Extraordinaire sample set off eBay about a year ago and they’ve lasted just fine. The OV is much darker than the others though.
Also, if anyone is sitting on any Muguet Blanc they don’t want, hit me up! I’d love to swap for it.
I have a bunch and so far so good. Orchidee Vanille did turn a lot darker. My LAP Seville a l’Aube turned a deep orange and it smells even better!
Autumn is here. We’re still getting lovely days, but there is a nip in the morning air. I’m wearing a dress with an appropriate autumn leaf pattern in brown and orange tones. The fabric reminds me a 1960s dinner plate design (which is a good thing in my opinion). I’ll be wearing an orange perfume with Alien Eau Luminescente, which has mandarin notes.
That all sounds perfect! Wish we had the corresponding spring weather.
I’m so bummed I missed out on the luminescent series ????
Oh what a fun project! Left the house without perfume, and had to grab my fleece coat from my laundry pile, because once again winter refuses to go home.
BUT, I happen to be participating because I have a good dose of Light Blue pour homme on my sleeve. I was hoping to wash it out, but inertia has allowed me to participate in today’s project!
lots of good names/colors to match to perfumes!
(Before-NST) I didn’t like it when my clothes smelled of “yesterday’s stale leftover fumes.” Now, life in the AN Epoch means I adore coat sleeves and scarves that waft on. It’s a chance to play the “what is that great smell?” memory game.
all about perspective ????pretty Gravatar!
SotM = Ostara
I have fresh daffodils in a vase on my desk for comparison, and Ostara does smell of daffodils. And tenderly green and waxy and damp earthy with a bit of amber to say winter is not through with us yet.
Let’s have a great week, NSTers!
Sad I never got to try that one before it was discontinued. There’s even a penhaligon’s store near my office but they didn’t have any to try.
I have a used rollerball that I meant to put up for swap – may I send it to you? You can email me at jane period smitty (which is at juno period com)
Wow, how sweet! Emailing now.
woot woot! yay mjp!
sharing perfume love NST style!!
It’s a mystery. I wish Penhaligon’s would explain why Ostara disappeared so quickly.
So glad you’ll get a chance to enjoy it thanks to morejasmineplease!
Started with Alahine this morning but it’s warmer and sunny now so I’m going to dig around for something springlike.
Monday in Tauer Phi. Now which color does it suit? Chili Oil?
Really? Chili Oil is about as far from PHI as I can think of
To me, it’s pretty close to Blooming Dahlia.
I’m with you! PHI always gives me the image of a deep burgundy brocade. Love it!
Planning to where Olfactive Studio’s Chambre Noire this morning which I think will be a perfect match for Emperador.
*wear
VQ ‘17 continues with Jeroboam Insulo from a very generous NSTer.
It is delightful! Have had my nose glued to mg forearm while doing reports all morning.
Just sent you an email. Your package arrived and I smell so effing amazing. Thanks so much for the Coco, and also for my sanity as I have been feeling like my replacement bottles just haven’t been the same as back in the day—but now I have confirmation.
Now all I need to do is put on Annie Lennox….
Began the day in Lipstick On (Almost Mauve.) Only a few drops left in my sample, but more is on the way – YAY swapmeet! (and thanks, kelly!) I tested it against Huitieme Poudre de Riz and Love, Chloe. It’s actually pretty close to Poudre de Riz, but pinker and more powdery. Love, Chloe smelled drier and more bitter and irisy, plus it’s got that touch of suede/leather where Lipstick On is more… lipsticky.
Am now testing a bit of Sylvaine Delacourte Florentina, which just arrived in the mail thanks to a generous NSTer. Delightful, and could not be springier. It’s Little Boy Blue tempered with more white.
Did not know we were doing a color project this week – they are always amongst my favorites. My brain doesn’t match perfumes to novels or movie characters or other such esoterica, but I do tend to get color associations.
Yu are tempting me with the Lipstick On!
Not doing colors today. I am enjoying a sunny mild day before the next storm blows in. ????
SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water, from the sample that refuses to quit! I needed something lighter after a week of ambers and heavy hitters.
Still hoping this is the last storm of the season. ????????????❄
I could not believe my eyes with the projected snow totals earlier this evening! I really hope that the forecasts are wrong with this one.
No kidding. I am DONE.
I am hoping for you all, that you don’t see any more storms.
I don’t mind the cold but precipitation? Phooey! I hope the forecasts are wrong!
Yeah, I’m starting to get a little cranky when I see “wintry mix turning to snow” on the news. ????
Hi NST people!
I am distracted with many things at the moment, so not spending much time here.
SOTD has been Amouage “Sunshine Man” to match the Pantone ‘Meadowlark’ colour. Now in the late evening I have sprayed a few drops – no more – of Parfumerie Générale “Bouquet Massaï”, so naturally TOMK is miming a theatrical death by gas poisoning across the room from me as I type. It’s really not that bad! Not really ‘my thing’ but a lively enough floral worth some attention.
Work has just today started on remodelling our Málaga apartment, which will take until June and wipe out our savings. It better be worth it! Meanwhile, I have decided to finish up in Düsseldorf at the end of the month. The programme will go on to a phase 2 but I shall not. I’m going to take a fortnight off – maybe more if no new opportunity comes up for a while. :^)
Exciting news re. the renovations and auf wiedersehen Dusseldorf.
Big congratulations on the start of your grand remodeling project! I hope that it all goes smoothly.
So glad to see you! I’m sure you will be happy once you see everything finished ☺
Late joining the party, today I’m wearing Bvlgari’s Au the Blanc, something easy to wear.
It’s a good thing it’s chocolate/caramel day, currently nibbling on Dove chocolate/caramels. Delicious…
Those Dove chocolates are criminal! ????. Once I start eating them it is very difficult to stop. You smell good!
Once the bag is opened, it’s all down hill from there!
Bvlgari Au the Blanc is my go-to scent for days when the allergies get bad or I can’t make up my mind what to wear!
Hello NST’ers, Anyone know when the US will get samples of St Giles? I am very. curious to try The Writer. Only Selfridge has it. No samples on either their or StGiles’ websites.
No idea, sorry!
Oh man, got my sample of MFK Grand Soir – swoon. This will be my next new bottle. ????
It is sooooo good, isn’t it?!?! You smell divine! It’s on the top of my wishlist, as well.
I only know because I tried with the recent coupon codes (although did not buy), the code works for the MFK line…
Nice. ???????? thank you.
There’s a coupon code?? My apologies if this was mentioned higher up in the thread, I missed it! Could you share it again with this Grand Soir obsessed gal?
I wore Shalimar Parfum Initial today. I’ll be predictable and go with “Pink Lavender” as the coordinating color. I need to figure out something to go with “Cherry Tomato” and coordinate lips as well — I love orange-y reds!
SOTD = Dior Prive Feve Delicieuse
I would match it with Pantone 15-1214 Warm Sand, “… a comforting natural shade that effortlessly connects the seasons”
Girl Scouts cookies were delivered today! I supported a co-worker’s daughter’s troop by buying 6 boxes.
Perfumelover67 gets an enabler’s pin for mentioning the L’Aromatica sample set. I bought 2 sets. If I like it from the dabber, both vials get promoted to an atomizer. If I don’t like the fragrance, it will go to a giveaway pile for the next Freebiemeet. How long will it take me to go through 18 samples (I think there’s 18), only time will tell!
There are actually 20 dabber samples in each box!
I’d bet that you will go thru 20 samples a lot faster than I will. ????
I am glad you bought the sets. I hope you find something that you really like and is worth of a bigger size. I am pretty sure you will sample all of them fast.
One thing I do miss about working—I never get hit up to buy Girl Scout cookies by daughters of co-workers! I really enjoyed when they would come around the office and we got the chance to interact.
Chiming in late with my SOTE. I’m wearing my vintage Dior Poison again so would probably be between the Pantone colors Spring Crocus and Ultra Violet.
I noticed yesterday that my maple tree has new buds starting. Spring can’t be that far away ????????????
