Hey, it's Tuesday, plus Day of the Dude. What fragrance are you wearing?
As we wait for the arrival of another Nor'easter, I'm doing a quick beach holiday in 4160Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays.
Reminder: on 3/9, we're doing Is it real, or is it Memorex?... wear a fragrance that photorealistically duplicates the smell of something else. Suggested by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Tap 1 cup teapot is £34.99 at Ceramic Inspirations.
I just received that 4160 scent in a recent swap packet – I can’t wait to try it.
Wearing Amouage Bracken Woman. It takes me to a damp, fern strewn clearing that is filled with (non-bitey) insects and lots of shade from nearby oaks.
It’s great fun! I need to catch up with 4160Tuesdays.
Glad your insects aren’t biting
I think I will wear that on Friday.
You smell great! Just snagged a bottle of Bracken cheap off fragrancenet.
So… Are you saying that Bracken is a bug repellent?
Today is Gabriel Garcia Marquez birthday..he would of been 91..?
“He allowed himself to be swayed by his conviction that human beings are not born once and for all on the day their mothers give birth to them, but that life obliges them over and over again to give birth to themselves.”
SOTD Vanilla Hinoke by Aroma M
Tea French Breakfast
I tried the amore pacific cushion over the weekend and so far I really love it, and have no irritation to it (yet)
PSA Bergdorf Goodman Rewarding Beauty Gift Card event is next week (no affiliation)
Currently trying to ignore the Barneys beauty event. Love the cosmetics bag, but don’t need to spend $200.
I am going over to take a peek but I don’t need to spend 200.00 on anything right now either
Yes it is — we marked that last year so I gave the day to the dude this year
yay! I’m a fan of both GGM and the dude.
Well, me three. Hard to say if they would appreciate each other, however. But it’s nice to think they would.
Are you getting bug spray…or bug candle today?
Bug spray..haha! Want to come sit next to me?
Its now settled and the vanilla is starting to peek through
I am not giving up on this one yet
great quote LTSG!
I loved the book and the move for Love in the Time of Cholera (not to mention its an excellent soundtrack)
Do you have a favorite GGM book?
Oh boy, I really should re-read them, I read LITTOC and OHYOS in Spanish years ago, which is not my native tongue so I missed a lot. Have not seen that movie good to hear a thumbs up!
Love that GGM quote.
Me too <3
Love that quote l2sg!’ Thank You for sharing it. It’s a keeper.
Happy Day of the Dude:
Don’t we all feel better now?
My condition is improved, thank you.
I feel muuuuuuuch better.
Some of my favorite Dudisms are in the Mutts comic strips, here’s one:
Mutts! I love Mutts. Probably the only comic I’ve bought books for, other than Calvin & Hobbes.
Yesh! I’m the same way. I buy very few books anymore, but there is a special place in my heart and home for Mutts and for Calvin & Hobbes.
Thanks for all the great BUB or back up bottle advice yesterday…I really appreciate it. Will confess if I do pull the trigger…
This whole concept of a budget has really made me pause and think about perfume purchases both great and small…the small ones add up it turns out…
Today I shall be in Il Profumo Vanille Bourbon.
The small ones really add up over the years. There are probably as many fragrances I wish I hadn’t bought as fragrances I regret not getting when I could. Regret is part of this hobby!
Wearing MY SIN and every time I wear MY SIN I feel like I need to capitalize MY SIN
Ha! the olfactory scarlet letter
Escada’s very discontinued Magnetism for men. If I was going for metallic grape cola realism, I nailed this project.
???????? You came to slay.
I sure did
I love that one! Wish it was still in production.
Shhh… She-ra’s not far away, but I’ve got a 100ml back up bottle!
Super sunny day here and the cat is very excited about the reflections off the phone. I wonder what she would do if she caught one. ????
Today I’m in Henrik Vibskov Cedar Root Black.
Just saw the video of McQueens FW 2018/19. AH-MA-ZING.
Smell something beautiful today.
I’m going to have to check out the AM show. I have become a real fan of Sarah Burton (even some of the skulls which originally were very offputting) and overall I like the vibe of the line. It somehow feels authentic to me, which I don’t get from many designers. I also really like the McQueen fragrance that came out in the past year – the extrait especially. It’s not revolutionary as far as BWFs go but it ticks the boxes.
I love watching cats chase reflections – such an interesting combination of playful and savage.
If you’ve ever been in an ice-cream parlour when they’re making waffle cones, you know that gorgeous smell of toasted wheat, caramelized sugar, and vanilla, which is exactly, precisely what Demeter Waffle Cone smells like. It’s uncannily accurate. And so appealing
oooh, good description & PSA, thank you!
I haven’t been feeling quite right latley. I’m wearing Gucci Rush in an attempt to get me back. Sampled BlackBerry and Bay last night. I loved it. It did sort of remind me of In Love Again, but that one never worked well on me. Hope everyone stays safe from the storm!
I am so tired of these storms..ready for spring…
I was thinking of you and fall light the other day, because I noticed some spring light!
Yes, the light is changing… there is hope!
They predicted 3-6 inches for us and we got 3. I would have preferred none, but I guess that wasn’t an option.????
Hope you’re feeling right, soon!
They predicted 4 for me, but now they say on and off snow showers all week. That just means they don’t know!
Oh, look… a surprise wintery mix just showed up????
Cheer up and feel better soon Lillyjo!
Thank you! Mood wise, I think I’m ok, but I just feel a little off, ya know?
B&B is also like l’ombre dans l’eau (diptyque), to my nose uncannily so, although I’ve only tried B&B once, and didn’t purchase as a result.
Interesting, will have to check it out.
That’s interesting that yiu say that. I have, and wear, all 3 if those frags. The blackberry / blackcurrant openings do have some resemblance – particularly between b & b and in love again but for me that’s where thr resemblance ends. B & B is herbal and pretty linear, ILA is a juicy slightly sweet fruity rose with a dusting of dried tose petals, and L’OdL is a walk through a damp resinous forest.
Alwsys interests me how everyone’s experience of fragrances is so different.
It’s been many years since smelling ILA, and I got a lot of what I thought was pine. I really liked it, but couldn’t wear it. I should try again.
Yes the forest definitely has pine / spruce trees. I haven’t worn it in a while either. Now you’ve reminded me of it I might have to pull it out tomorrow!
My comment eas about L”Ombre Dans L’Eau…I really need another coffee!
I’ve never had pine out of In Love Again…I wonder what was reading like that for you? Our noses are weird sometimes. (Or maybe that’s just me lol)
I have Blackberry & Bay and Falling in Love. Falling in Love is very sweet, while B&B is tart. Love them both. Not sure how it compares to In Love Again, but if you’re looking for sweet, Falling in Love is the way to go – just wore it the other day!
I hope that you get your groove back soon, Lillyjo!
Day of the Dude! We have a magnet on our fridge I got at the farmer’s market that reads: That’s just like your opinion man. Lol. So many great lines.
SotD is Hiris! I’m finally getting to sample this much mentioned fragrance thanks to CobraRose and the freebiemeet. I did a preliminary sample last night on the back of my hand ( thank you to whoever said they sample this way, I do it all the time now! I think it was kpaint?????) of this and Heure Exquise. I had madtownteen do a sniff test. The AG got a shrug and Hiris got a “Oooh!” Luca Turin may think it’s a sad little iris, but I’m finding it quite lovely.
Speaking of freebiemeet, I have a little box of about 20 samples I’ve made my way through in the past few weeks that I’d like to send on to a new home. I won’t list them all but included is: Amouage Fate Woman, some By Kilians, some Byredos, some classic Guerlains and a few Uncle Serge. If you are in the US, shoot me an email at pkwisdom in the land of yahoo and I will send them your way!
I have never sampled Hiris
Lovetosmellgood, you’re in the US, right? I just acquired a big bottle of Hiris on eBay and would be happy to send you some. My email is in my gravatar.
wow Thank you!
Samples have found a new home, thanks.????????
I say “that’s just like your opinion, man” at least once a week!k
Twins! I’m wearing Hiris too. I’m a huge Hiris fan – welcome to the club.
I am wearing Eau des Merveilles (edt) today.
I still need to see my new nephew. I am busy working on the birthday anouncement card though. I made them for all my nephews and niece (yes only 1 niece so far). Its fun (i draw them by hand, oldskool) but after half a dozen its becoming a bit boring to be honest.
Oh and you guys lemming’ed me into more Amouage last weekend, so I tried some more, I really liked for Jubilation.
So I ordered the 12 piece Amouage sample set (Women). Its not a cheap set (I could buy a full bottle of Eau des Merveilles for that price) but I found a nice deal (30 percent off).
I love Eau de Merveilles! That is easily an everyday scent for me.
Yup its great, its a no brainer for me. Never disappoints!
Please share all thoughts on Amouage! I think I know that sample set you got which I have so far managed to resist. Are they the dab vials? If so that was what kept me away so far (though perhaps not with 30% off).
And a new baby is always yay-worthy! It sounds like your brothers and sisters stay busy. Oldskool is awesome. I bet those announcements you draw will be treasured forever.
They are glass spray vials with a cap.
I dont know where you live but the shop where I found them is Dutch and they only ship to a handful of European countries. But I bet there are more sites that offer them discounted (maybe Notino?)!
hi twin! I’m in EdM for the afternoon. It’s always a good choice.
You’re a marvelous auntie.
You smell so good.
Hi all! Im inUn Air de Samsara. Have y’all tried this one? I was surprised how much I like it. The sandalwood and jasmine are completely intact but the whole this is lightened. I get a whiff of tea in the top notes, followed by a bloom or two of narcissus. I got some dry spices yesterday, but only up close. This one is gorgeous! If Samsara is too much for you, I’d recommend giving this one a try.
This sounds really lovely!
I agree. Samsara is never too much for me but it’s hard to wear in an office.
I’d look into it. It’s definitely related to Samsara, just lures bombastic.
It is! I was surprised.
It sound just enough to wear on a spring or cool summer evening. Thanks for the heads up!
I love Un Air de Samsara, it also has a lovely mint note that is very light and bright.
One of my favorites from Guerlain.
Thank you all for your good wishes yesterday to my dog Yei. He has a big inflammation in his “backside” glands. He is under medication until Thursday, but if he does not show any improvement by then, he has to be back on Friday for a sonogram, blood tests, etc. He is under the weather and I am just hoping and praying that he does not need them. He always gets terrified with those procedures.
SODT L’Air Du Desert Marocain to give me strength and energy to face the day and to start preparing mentally for another tough commute tomorrow thanks to another “lovely” Nor’easter SPRING, WHERE ARE YOU?????
Poor baby, hope he feels better soon. lADDM is a great spine stiffener.
I hope Yei is feeling better soon! I’ve heard that those glands can get impacted and it must be really awful for the poor guy.
Thank you. I also hope he feel better soon.
Poor thing. I hope he gets better without medical intervention.
I hope he shows signs of improving and won’t have to go through more tests. I think it is plain unfair you guys are getting a second Big Storm in less than a week! That’s just crazy and unacceptable.
Thank you Lillyjo!
Yes, it is exhausting already! It looks like winter is going to keep hitting us until the last day and beyond. Patience!
Poor little guy???? Sounds uncomfortable. I hope the medication is enough to heal him. You smell great and I’m with you in not looking forward to tomorrow’s commute!
Thank you! The commute is going to be tougher than last time. I hope we do not get the amount of snow expected.
Poor doggie, hope it improves quickly!
Thank you! Hoping for some improvement.
Sending you good wishes that the meds will reduce the inflammation and it’s only a local infection!
Poor pooch, hope it all goes as smoothly as possible for him.
Thank you! Hoping for the best.
I hope your pooch recovers quickly! Sending him healing vibes.
Thank you Sistine.
Oh, your poor dog’s rear end! No wonder he isn’t happy.
Hope he is happy soon!
Ouch! Sending my prayers to the glandular gods!
I am wearing Jo Malone Lime Basil Mandarin and drinking a cup of orange spice tea.
Wearing two coffee scents: Legendary Fragrances Barista and Lush Cardamom Coffee. At some stage, they both do smell like a cup of coffee: black with spices (CC) and cappuccino (Barista). Although they smell less like coffee later.
I’m still on the lookout for the perfect coffee-centered perfume. They always do seem to morph into something I like much less than coffee.
Atelier des Ors Cuir Sacre……..from Koyel’s split!
It’s very smooth and rich, I smell fruity leather, I think this would smell great on my husband too. I asked him, and he smells incense.
Yay, glad it arrived safely!
SotM = Assam of India
Feeling very relaxed sniffing Assam of India and wearing my most bathrobe-ish cardigan. Looking forward to a nap this afternoon.
You smell very relaxed and probably look very chill!
thanks, Ede! I am channeling my inner Dude today, but not trying too hard.
You smell and look great. I have a cardigan that my youngest actually asked me once, “is that a robe?” Lol, kids.
Thanks, madtowngirl! EdM is up next, maximum perfume happiness with minimum effort. Transparent citrus is relaxing and uplifting for me.
And hee-hee, yes, my kids say that to me too. If a cardigan is long and has a belt they think it’s a robe.
Smelling good tiffanie! I need to dig out my bottle
thanks, CM8, Assam does smell great any day of the year. Stay warm!
It’s such a pleasant perfume! Since I got a full bottle of it recently, I plan to wear it a lot this summer.
Agree! Assam of India always makes me smile. It is great in the heat of summer.
Carner Barcelona Rose & Dragon for me today. I discovered it a couple of weeks ago in the Twisted Lily sale, it’s a saffron strawberry rose.
Dang. This has been on my to-try list forever and I keep telling myself I shouldn’t bother (too many others on deck already!). Your description says otherwise.
That sounds really interesting. How do you like it?
I like it a lot. The strawberry note is fun, the rose is not heavy or sour, and the saffron and leather add nice accents.
Ooh! That sounds like a fun bunch of smells!
I really like the Black Calamus from the same line. Beautiful stuff.
“Saffron strawberry rose” sounds like it would also be a delicious dessert! ????
Moonlight Patchouli today! I get a lot more iris and leather than patchouli, but it’s not a photorealistic version of any of those. It’s quite nice.
I unboxed all of my perfume bottles last night! They’re in a pretty dark corner so they should be ok. More importantly, I’ll wear them more if they’re already unboxed, and besides, they look so pretty now
ooooh, I bet they are pretty….I hate that I can’t enjoy the beautiful bottles, maybe I can figure something out….
Yes, package arrived, meticulously packaged, thank you! I sent you a couple of emails but I think I am having technical difficulty…will try later
Oh I’ll have to wear that one later today you smell beautiful!!
I had a talk with myself about having at least some bottles out – and the best I could do was to have a small tray with either empty bottles, or ones with spoiled juice, or ones that I bought specifically for displaying purposes
I started with Opus IV which is amber + cumin and oddly worked for me, though not enough to put it into rotation. Moved on to Lyric.
Robin, I’ve become quite a fan of 1420Tuesdays — her Dark Heart of Old Havana is luscious. I’m always open to trying more from that house. I bet you smell wonderful!!
Errr…. 4160. I hope I didn’t just curse myself to a shorter life.
Lol! And knock on wood! Actually, I already knocked for you????
Dark Heart really is fantastic stuff.
I have been nothing but on the go since Thursday and can’t wait until tomorrow where I don’t have to do anything and I don’t have to be anywhere. Tomorrow, I get to stretch out and relax. But I can’t decide for the life of me if I want to wear Beloved or L’Heure Bleue. I love both and want something very perfumey.
I wanted something perfumey yesterday and went with Romanza, but L’Heure Bleue was my second choice.
Enjoy your relaxing day tomorrow. You deserve it!
I asked this on yesterday’s thread by mistake, can someone help me out?
I have a general question about love it or hate it scents: is it due to skin chemistry or just different noses that people pick up the awful notes? Even if something smells pleasant to me I don’t want to subject people near me to vomity smells if that’s what it’s like for them.
It can be either/both. If you’re not sure about a scent on you, just ask friends whether it smells good on you.
I vote for differences in noses rather than skin chemistry.
ditto to the max
Nahhhh haven’t you ever put the same perfume on yourself and a friend? The same scent can smell completely different to your nose at the same time on two different skins.
I agree with SFguy about nose>skin, but I think maybe at times we do smell different things because of changes in hormones, diet etc. at least I feel I do, when I eat a lot of junk food versus eating more healthful food, etc.
that said – other than secretions magnifique level fragrance and truly overdoing a powerhouse, I don’t think anything is truly repulsive to people – they are smelling the dry down, and with context, if you smell a person that smells of perfume your nose/brain is going to tell you that that is something that generally “smells good”
I was at the grocery store and was talking to the pharmacist – there was a very elderly gentleman behind me and there was a pungent smell – so the context was “medical, elderly, strong odor” and we both thought we smelled urine. Then, we simultaneously saw the chocolate fountain display, and the scent instantly changed to artificial chocolate – not absolutely delicious but pleasant and non-offensive. Weird!
Thirding the nose and people’s perception of the scent. Also I’ve liked some perfume better on others than on myself with the differemce being that I’m not picking up certain notes from a distance. Things smell different when you’re sniffing your own wrist sometimes.
I know from testing the same fragrance on different people at the same time that skin (and probably what people may have on their skin) does change the character of a scent. But I think when a scent that smells good to some people smells terrible to others, it’s more likely to be due to anosmia and/or hyperosmia to one or more of the notes.
Sometimes there are random scent associations, too. I dislike cigarette smoke intensely because my parents smoked in the car on long trips in which I got motion sickness. In addition, I can’t bear the flavor (aroma) of Inka Cola because the same flavoring was used in the syrup form of a medication for motion sickness I was given as a child. I’m not sure if that’s due to the underlying bad taste of the medicine, or the context of motion sickness.
Thanks for the advice! I’m always afraid to wear these polarizing scents, I don’t want people wondering why I smell like pee when I think I smell great. Glad to hear it doesn’t generally project too far.
I think the key is to apply judiciously in order to keep one’s perfume in one’s personal space while in public. I don’t care how wonderful a perfume is, I don’t want to smell it in my cubicle all day and have it become associated for all time with work stress.
I don’t mind ciggerette or tabbaco in a perfume, but can not stand burning wood or fireplace smells. Probably due to being in a house fire as a child. I’ve learned to like a lot of different smells over time, but not the ones with bad associations.
From my experience, I’d say it’s a combination of both skin chemistry and noses. I remember when a good friend and I both tried TF Violet Blonde at the same time on skin… we ended up smelling completely different! Both scents were pleasant, but did not at all smell like the same perfume.
Ambre Nuit for me today. Probably my favorite amber as it’s perfectly wearable for all occasions and lasts all day.
You smell great! And I love that teapot too.
Today’s SOTD is Jessica McClintock (the original), I’m in the mood for spicy, green florals, notes are cassia, basil, ylang-ylang, bergamot, black currant, lemon, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, rose, musk and woods.
That sounds nice. I was kind of wanting LOTV this morning but didn’t have anything that fit the bill. I have seen that one around at TJ Maxx and Marshalls pretty cheap, so I might have to pick it up next time I see it.
Try it, I never would have thought I could wear a white floral but this has enough greens that it’s very nicely balanced, not too sweet or sharp smelling.
I’ve worn it on and off for years, one of my favorite LOTV perfumes and it’s super cheap!
I’m nearing the end of my bottle, should purchase another soon…
You would be very welcome in our home. Hubby adores all things LOTV and especially JM. He has back up bottles for me!
What a sweet hubby! Have you tried Tauer’s Carillion pour un Ange? Beautiful LOTV.
BUBs?!? I guess he doesn’t notice you only wear it for very special (once-a-year????) occasions. It is cute that he’s such a fan.
I was always a big fan of the Scott McClintock fragrance.
1) Brrr! Very foggy and frosty this morning, but it turned in to sunshine. Still chilly, but it supposed to warm up a bit.
2) Because of the weather, I am wearing Aromatic Elixir- a quick broad spritz.
3) Coffee and a pizza Hot Pocket because I forgot my breakfast and this was the best of the trash offerings in the vending machine.
3) wow, sounds like something I would eat – I find confessing it helps
It was so good this morning, gotta be honest! It was so cold and it did warm me up! I did managed to pack a fresh green smoothie for a snack, so balance?
Didn’t realize they still made Hot Pockets. Use to love those as a guilty pleasure.
It was prime teen food for me!
Heh, now I have an earworm for the tail end of the commercial – off key Hot Pockets!
Have you ever seen Jim Gaffigan? He does a great bit with Hot Pockets.
Who doesn’t want to celebrate Day of the Dude?!
Just getting going up here in the PNW. Yesterday was outstandingly gorgeous! We were at the beach all afternoon, did a bit of hiking and exploring, and a lot of Chuck it ball for T-Rex.
The sea lions were out in force too, enjoying the rare clear sunny day. The surf was really high and as the sun started to go down, the swells were backlit, appearing almost phosphorescent green. I’d occasionally see the silhouette of a sea lion suspended in the wave as it crested. They slipped through the rough surf like silk, elegant and graceful, the white foaming cauldron swirling all around them. Unflappable, they tooled around deadly rock formations and waves crashing 50-60’ into the air. I’d like to maneuver through life like those sea lions maneuver through the ocean.
No SOTD yet, but I’m getting hooked on that Hinoki Vanilla. Generous sprays are the key. Thanks for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I’m not sad about the fact that senior citizens discounts are just a couple of years away????
Oh, happy birthday (a day late) to you!
I too would like to maneuver through life like the sea lions to through the ocean. You painted a beautiful picture of what you experienced.
Scent twins if you decide to go with VH today..
Thank you for such a beautiful description Deva! It brighten my day!
Wow, that sounds amazing. What a sight to see on your birthday! That must be a great omen for the coming year.
Very happy (late) birthday wishes to you.
LOL. I think AARP gets you discounts sooner.
AARP had the effrontery to start sending me sign-ups in my mid-forties! The noive!!
hee-hee, I also got the AARP mailings about a decade too early so I sent them back with a little note that said I would let them know when I was ready, please don’t contact me. It stopped them!
I’m wearing Hermes Vetiver Tonka today. It was kind of one of those days where what I had in mind that I wanted was something I didn’t have. This works for those kind of days.
Great “all purpose, hits all the right buttons, when you can’t really decide what perfume to wear and you’re too bothered or rushed to think it through” scent!
Agreed. I think Vetiver Tonka pretty much always works.
I’m wearing the last of my unknown pleasures sample, which doesn’t smell like seeing Joy Division in a dank basement at all, but incongruously like lemon cream and waffle cone.
OH, that’s not Joy Division at all!
What fragrance would evoke Joy Division, I wonder, Coco EDP, Coromandel or perhaps CdG’s Avignon?
something with smoke and damp incense and sweat, maybe l’air de rien? I only have petit rien, but I get the general idea. Also totally agree about avignon
Definitely something dark and smokey. I’ve read Avignon is Morrissey’s signature scent.
To me, leather fragrances are the ultimate Memorex scents. The smell of leather scent, from photo-real to fantastic, is created out of other notes entirely.
Akil, the wonderful Chanel rep at the Chevy Chase Saks Fifth Avenue, has a guide to the main notes in each Chanel perfume and an Olfactorium containing tiny jars of 40 basic Chanel ingredients, from aldehydes to ylang ylang. One time, we dipped scent strips into each of the main notes of Cuir de Russie: birch tar, ylang ylang, jasmine (exotic, as opposed to Grasse), and cistus labdanum. We held fanned out, as perfumers do, et voila! Cuir de Russie materialized, as if by magic.
(I had always understood that Cuir de Russie had a lot of orris, too, but that doesn’t seem to be an essential part of the leather accord.)
Wow – this is fascinating!
Can you explain for me the difference between ‘exotic’ as opposed to the Grasse jasmine? By exotic, meaning from some place like India? Different strains entirely I assume, but I’m curious in what ways they smell different or what else you can say about character/type/whatever. This is something I need to know!!!
I wasnt askes, but my guess
The jasmine from Grasse must be the jasminum grandiflorum. Those tiny flowers smell almost fruity and high pitched (if that makes sense).
The exotic one could be the Sambac variety (aka Arabian jasmine, they originate from Himalayas if I remember correctly). They often use Sambac in jasmine tea, and it smells greener/lower pitched (also more animalic) to me than the grandiflorum.
Thank you Jiji!!
I also remembered as soon as I posted that there’s this thing called The Google….
I like your higher/lower pitched thing, that definitely works!
I saw and smelled the jasmine grandiflorum in the gardens of the museum of perfumery, when I was in Grasse last year. That almost felt like a perfumista milestone haha though it was not fully in bloom yet.
There was another ‘jasmine’ there though that you could spot and smell in everywhere, on every streetcorner. The star or confederate jasmine (from another plantfamily actually, but quite similar in looks and smell to jasmine family..still get it?).
Very interesting, Jiji, thanks!
I’m sorry, I don’t remember. I did sniff both jasmines, and they really did smell quite different.
This 2014 photo of an Olfactorium shows Jasmine Abs Grasse and Jasmine Abs Corse (abs is short for absolute), but I’m certain the 2017 Olfactorium had Jasmine Exotic.
By the way, did you know that Eden Botanicals (no affiliation) offers a jasmine sampler pack?
I bought their ylang ylang sampler and really enjoy it.
Oh that must have been so much fun, going through that mini museum of smells!
One of my peak perfume experiences, Jiji! I think that was my fourth visit, and I learn something new every time. It’s definitely worth checking to see if there is a Chanel Espace Parfums near you. In the DC area, it’s not part of one of the Chanel boutiques selling shoes, etc., but rather attached to the Chanel cosmetics section in a luxury department store. They debuted in Europe, but I’ve never found a list.
Not sure if it’s photorealistic, bit I’m wearing Idylle Love Blossom whicj smells like a lilac bush on a warm evening.
Oh man, that is one of my favourite smells.
Truth be told, I don’t think I’ve smelled that IRL, lol. It’s more my romantic fantasy since it has a powdery haze to it (rather than watery/fresh like En Passant).
mmmm, sounds great – sound like what I though Amouage Lilac Love might smell like, but did not at all
I don’t really remeber that one. Maybe it wasn’t memorable?
I think that is likely
My HG lilac is Opardu but ILB is very pretty.
Although the gorgeous lilac in Opardu is in the top notes. Still the best I’ve come across.
For the price, it better have HG status! Now I’m curious…
SOTD is Chanel No 22. I smell aldehydes!
The Beast from the East is finally leaving Poland so now – let’s welcome some rain! What the heck is going on with the weather? It’s so weird.
I’m in Rahele from Neela Vermeire Creations. I love it!
You smell wonderful. Our weather has been awful too.
LOL @ the beast from the east
And you smell very elegant!
I’m trying St Clair Scents Frost on one side and comparing to SSS Winter Woods on the other. The SSS is more ambery, and I totally agree with Jessica’s review that the St Clair has a New England sensibility to it – it’s a little “spare”. To my nose, the opening was brighter (citrus) and the dry down has more smokiness. I prefer the ambery Winter Woods but am impressed with the St Clair Scents.
and I like them both and Frost is a good replacement for me…on my skin it starts off smoky but the drydown is strawberry jam and honeysuckle nectar….
and I forgot to say thank you for my pin
Gypsy Water, from a sample. I just poured the entire sample on my person. I like GW but it’s fleeting as an edp.
GW is just plain W to me. Pouring seems required for this one. I know someone who lurvs this and I keep trying it, to see what she’s getting that I’m missing out on completely.
IMHO, Tocca Colette is just as good, and cheaper!
I could not even smell it on my skin when I sampled it not that long ago.
Gypsy Water was rather light on me. But there was something present for me. I’d call it a stealth scent… something I could wear around perfume haters.
I just spritzed a little on the back of my hand, from a sample courtesy of the lovely Laura. It’s a little citrus, a little floral, and exactly something we could wear in August when the heat is unbearable. Sometimes, fleeting is good – you get to reapply! ????
in office-appropriate Jasmine White Moss. Looks I will be the first wet coast person to mention Dude Chilling Park:
“Wet coast” – so true!
Dude Chilling Park, that makes me smile.
When I immigrate to Canada, I’m coming to BC. Totally cool city✌????
Looks like you’ve decided to do it! Is there a reciprocal licensing agreement?
Vancouver is hella expensive. But welcome!
I checked my spreadsheet to see what I’ve sampled that I felt was photorealistic, and there’s only one – Parfums de Rosine Un Zest de Rose. I’ll try to track the sample down and wear it on Friday, but today I’m in my old friend, Gucci EDP (brown juice, clear bottle).
Wearing a favourite perfume pairing: Marni + Heeley’s Hippie Rose.
In commando as I am awaiting a beautyhabit shipment – sacrebleu intense and the eau fraiche set are probably waiting in my mailbox right now. My office is still scented though – I got a new fern, and it smells…ferny? It’s not terrible, but it’s not a real good green scent either.
I wanted to smell pretty and rosy and office friendly so I’m wearing Rose Barbare. I should finish my small decent tonight. I love finishing things!
Oh, I have a tiny sample of that one. You smell lovely!
St Clair Scents Gardener’s Glove
Still no work for me as my building and the road it is on is still closed due to live electric wires and no heat/running water.
At home we have lost the internet and Tv several times but I am extraordinarily grateful that we have power as many of our neighbors have not since Friday.
and guess what? Tonight we are getting a foot of snow
and if you don’t hear from me it will be because I lost power again and/or internet is out …….crossing my fingers that this is the last of winter!!!
Oh dear! Stay safe and warm. I hope spring moves into your neighborhood soon.
Thank you! I am wishing for spring and hoping this will be the last of the snow and storms.
Yuck. Sounds like you are waiting for the same storm that I am. ☁ ❄
YUP Second one in less than a week.
Stay warm and safe CM8. Let’s hope this is the last one we have to endure!
Stay safe, my dear.
Your aspirational scent sounds wonderful.
Here’s hoping the storm is not so bad and passes quickly!
Jo Malone’s Dark Amber & Gingerlily for me today which is pretty much was it says on the bottle
YOu smell good!
I’m wearing Hiris. Just perfect for a rainy day.
It is perfect! I love it in summer, too. You smell super classy????????
That is an awesome optical illusion teapot, Robin!
Waiting for the impending Nor’easter today. Latest forecast I saw has pushed back its arrival time, and snow amounts are lower, but it still has all the hallmarks of a very large PITA. NJ will be under a state of emergency from 8pm tonight.
SOTD = SJP Covet, from the sample stash. A different green today.
“the hallmarks of a very large PITA”…could not have said it better myself!!!
And the State of Emergency allows NJ to run a holiday train schedule which is one every half hour or so instead of 3-5 per hour.
Boo! NJ transit gets an F-.
Really hoping for the best for all the folks in the path of this storm…
You’ve been smelling awfully good lately!
Someone with great taste in perfume tuned me in to a few things. ????
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
What a day! And it gets repeated again tomorrow. I will be working from home as I have a very long meeting ahead of me tonight and my first meeting tomorrow is at 7:30 in the morning.
Today, someone to whom I responded to to hold off on asking for yet another update responded with an inappropriate snide remark that I went straight to her boss’ boss’ and asked him to deal with it. Seriously? I am already working with her manager’s peers and management and her lack of courtesy was really off- putting.
To CM8 – stay safe! It looks like you’re getting more than twice what we’re getting in these here parts.
Is the snark monster the same person you have mentioned in the past? What a drag to have to deal with that drama.
Nope. But come to think of it, two previous exchanges with her were on a similar topic and she had the same misplaced sense of urgency and was also very selfish to boot.
I know you said this would be a grueling week… Hang in there! Good that you don’t have to commute in the storm tomorrow on top of all the late-and-early meetings.
A colleague of mine overstepped his bounds late yesterday afternoon. I spent most of today dealing with it. Sigh.
Hope you don’t get any more bad behavior this week!
I’ll probably see a few more…
Sorry about the crappy meeting schedule but at least you won’t have to face the commute from hell!
thanks love! Snow started last night but power and internet are still running..woo hoo!
I’m in Eau d’Orange Verte on the left and Sue Le Nil on the right. I like them both just fine, but not FB fine. However, two more samples bite the dust. ????
Perfumistas and perfumistos in the northeast, hang on tight and stay safe! You’re buddies are thinking of you. ❄️
