Happy Uncle Serge Day! Our community project for today: wear something by Serge Lutens (a repeat from 2014).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I surprised myself by picking Serge Lutens Datura Noir. My decant has seen better days, though.
Reminder: on 3/9, we're doing Is it real, or is it Memorex?... wear a fragrance that photorealistically duplicates the smell of something else. Suggested by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I planned to wear Fleurs d’Oranger today, but went with Bois et Fruits. Such a true old-style SL – plum, spices, woods, sweet resins. Delicious!
Some day I’m going to hunt down a bottle of vintage Bois et Fruits: I had a decant once and it was just fantastic, but I never got around to buying a full bottle. So obviously you smell great today.
Sounds like something I would want to eat!
I will have to check this out. Sounds right up my alley.
I wore this yesterday – it was the last of my decant, sadly.
Thanks for the comments! You all confirmed my decision that I need to buy another decant of this. 😉
Miel de Bois, possibly the most hated of the entire Lutens line, definitely the most polarizing, because to some people it smells like pee, which it never has to me. I get the entire history of honey — the flowers and their powdery pollen, the wood the hive is built from, the beeswax, the smoke that pacifies the bees, and most all the honey itself, sweet and golden. It’s just incredibly beautiful.
What a fantastic description! The entire history of honey – love it!
So jealous that it works on you! Your description is wonderful.
I would really like to try MdB again now that I’ve developed my nose a lot more and my tastes have changed. I was very early into exploring niche when I sampled it and got the dreaded pee note. Now I’m actually drawn to sulfuric notes and those that are almost pee-like (thinking of black currant). And I love your description!
Sad I did not get to Miel de Bois this week — you smell great!
Love this! Beautiful.
I’m a Miel de Bois fan, I don’t get a pee note, but I can see how someone might. I think it would have gjven me a fright if I’d tried it early in my perfume explorations!
Wearing SL Iris Silver Mist, and indulging further by applying some FM Iris hand cream. It was interesting to compare the hand cream to the ISM and notice how the former is much more floral.
I want to like ISM, but it is straight up carrot to my nose.
Same for me
You smell like iris perfection!
DITTO!
You smell lovely!
This is one of my favorite combos. You smell absolutely amazing!
I love both of these. You smell wonderful!
Wearing La Myrrhe.
The bell jar of this wonderful scent was my 50th birthday gift to myself, and I revel in it at least once a week in cold weather.
The best thing was choosing a sweater that had traces of Encens et Lavande on it. The 2 scent meld to make a delicious, resinous swirl.
Oh nice!
SOunds wonderful! I love sweater mélange.
you smell great!
Wearing SL Gris Claire for a dark, cold, wintry mix day. Perfect for gloomy days like this one.
Have a happy Friday everyone!
Hope the gloom and wintery mix leave you soon. Stay safe!
Thank you! The weekend will be windy but sunny, so that is a plus!
Gris Claire is such a beautiful, melancholic lavender.
I agree! It is very lovely and cozy.
Twin! I’m also in Gris Clair. Stay warm and safe.
Hi twin! We smell amazing!
you smell lovely.
Thank you!
That’s a beautiful scent, but I couldn’t face its icy cool on this icy day!!
I tend to wear GC in cold, grey, rainy days. For some reason I cannot match it with a beautiful sunny day.
Definitely a perfect choice for the weather! To be honest, GC is a disaster on my skin, which is a bummer. But I’m guessing that what I get by just sniffing the juice is what it smells when it’s actually ‘right’, so: You smell great!????
Some days GC is also a bummer on me. I have to be in the right mood for it, which it does not happen often despite the fact I like it.
Twins! We smell lovely 🙂
Hi twin! We do! ????
I planned to wear something by SL, but the splitmeet got in the way and I am in Guerlain’s BdR, and smell feminine and beautiful.
Happy Friday and looking forward to the Oscars this weekend…
Same here! Love Splitmeet from now on.
It’s hard to resist
Thanks for the reminder about the Oscars!
your welcome!
you smell great!
<3 Thank you!!!
Sadly I have no Incle Serge to spritz on but a couple of the choices above sound great. Especially Bous et Fruits.
I went with Desir by Rochas as a tie in to Paris Fashion Week. Excited to try the Byredo/Off-White collaboration Elevator Music!!
Hope everyone has a peaceful weekend.
**Uncle. Going without coffee has made me a slug.
I liked Incle Serge!
Me too 🙂
Passes you a cup of coffee
My decant from the splitmeet has just arrived. Queen of the night in a nice little glass bottle. It made me smile and happy. And the sun has come out so its going to be a nice day.
Happy weekend and take care of your loved ones.
I have no uncle serge with me here in India, so I’m wearing jasmine oil. And there is a garland of jasmine on the shelf that is perfuming the whole kitchen. It was 95 degrees today and that garland was a real jasmine bomb!
I can imagine how delicious your kitchen smells! Please, send some of that garland scent here! ????
I too will take some of that garland scent!
Oh how I miss those jasmine garlands…Your kitchen smells wonderful!
You smell like a queen, and your kitchen like a royal court!
oh, you smell like what a la nuit wishes it smells like! 🙂
Your description sounds (and smells) so beautiful!!
That is one of the many things I love about being in India–the easy availability of garlands of sweet-smelling flowers 🙂
Trying out a dabber of Acqua e Zucchero today…
Have a high stakes meeting this morning…will report back later on the fragrance and meeting developments… ????
Good luck!
Good luck to you!
Good luck. I hope all the outcomes are favorable.
Oh! Let us know! and you smell great!
Best of luck!
Hope that everything went well for you today!
Sorry for the late update.
The meeting went very well and the fragrance is lovely…debating if I need more in fact. So much vanilla…so little time…
LOL! I’m jealous of your IlProfumo Vanille Bourbon. Did you smell Casamorati Lira? I’m thinking about that one.
I am happy to share some VB with you.
I haven’t smelled Casamorati Lira…I actually haven’t sniffed anything from Xerjoff…yet 😉 Have heard good things about Irisss too.
SotD is A la Nuit.
I can still smell it after 6 hours but I suspect its because some of it got absorbed by my sweater.
Such a gorgeous scent!
My local dept store is selling Amouage nowadays so I tried a few…I like them, but I am kinda puzzled why they ask 200 to 300 euro for a bottle.
Most of them don’t smell that ‘rich’ to my nose.
Maybe this brand is also suffering from the reformulation virus? A lot of reviewers are raving about them and it also gets lots of love here…what am I missing?
Which ones did you try?
Cant remember them all, because why be sensible and put the name of the scent on the bottle? ????
Journey Man, Dia woman, the one that Putin supposedly wears (forgot the name, but the SA thought it was a good sales pitch…argh i hate that guy), Bracken Man, Fate woman (okay that one was quite lovely) and erhm a gold one from the Woman line.
I really only loved 3 enough to get decants: Lyric Woman, Jubilation 25, and Beloved. I’ve not explored the men’s much other than Interlude and Jub xxv.
Oh, and the names are etched on the band around the neck. Bring a magnifying glass next time ???? Annoying.
OH..and Memoir is also nice
The price is very high..if you felt meh about it then I would say MONEY SAVED! You can put it towards several pairs of white and gray sneakers…
Re:names. Thanks for the instructions ????
My favorite is Journey Woman and Dia man and woman
I am guessing Putin wears Gold..
Of course Putin wears Gold. Of course he does.
Oh thanks for mentioning your favourites. I havent smelled those, but I will, I am not giving up 😉
I heard that fate woman was good, and I have a sample on the way! I have tried Lyric Woman and Beloved – I like them but they are not loves.
Jiji, I’d say my favorites from Amouage are Beloved, Gold, Lyric, and Dia, pretty much in that order. I think I paid full price for one or two of them and got the others on a discount site. I recently bought a backup bottle of Beloved for less than $150!
Many love the Jubilations, but that depends on how you feel about cumin.
I assume they have grown less deep and complex over time with reformulation, as everything else has, but I haven’t tested different the current versions.
I also think we are becoming inured to more and more powerful and blunt woody notes, musks, synthetic “oud” accords, etc., so Amouage may now strike us rather differently than it did when we discovered it following the era of L’Eau d’Issey, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, EL Pleasures, etc.
Fragrancenet carries a bunch for a much better (for the consumer) price.
I like lots of them, but will only buy them when they get marked down 50%.
you smell great
Love a la nuit….you smell great. As for Amouage, I love Lyric Woman. I am kicking myself for not snapping up a bottle of Epic Woman for $12 in Goodwill, but that was before I knew what it was!!
I am also in A la nuit — and I have to chime in on the Amouages. If you have only sampled in-store then you may be missing the full experience. I wrote off Beloved initially. It’s the drydown that makes the Amouages so special to me. I am now a complete convert. I love Memoir, Epic, Lyric, Jubilation, and Memoir (all the Woman versions, never tried the Men). I did not care as much for Bracken or Lyric Love but am going to give them another go. The Library Collection also hasn’t wow’ed me. I also originally had trouble keeping names apart (Lyric and Epic always get confused) but these are scents that I have invested time in and they have paid off.
I always try them on skin, multiple sprays…..but I still have a lot to try. Not giving up yet 🙂
I’m a fan of the older Amouages, the last one I loved was Fate. Since then, lots of them have been nice, but nothjng I’ve really fallen for. I think my favourites are Jubilation 25 and Beloved. I can also recommend Ubar, Lyric and Memoir.
I’m with you on older Amouages.
My favorites are Ubar, Gold, Dia, Lyric and Memoir. From the later crop I probably like Beloved but with this one I haven’t gone beyond the decant. Everything else… I remember that one of the newer ones was kind of OK for me – but I can’t even remember which one. I really dislike their direction in the last 5 years.
A la Nuit is so very beautiful. I’m glad we twinned today. 😀
I had to chime in here. I’ve tried most of the Amouage fragrances except for the most recent ones, and I think they’re quite wonderful and complex, for the most part. I own three fb’s: Jubilation 25, Fate, and Honour. The last one is not mentioned often but I think it’s a really pretty and unusual white floral, combined with a fruit note (It often strikes me as apple, but it’s actually rhubarb). I also am a huge fan of Library Opus VIII, and I’ve tried most of that series too. It’s the one that stood out way above the others. I’m hoping to find it in a less expensive version sometime and buy that. If you look it up on Fragrantica you will find other reviewers who love it, as did Kafkaesque in this epic, lengthy review: http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2014/03/16/amouage-opus-viii-optical-illusions/.
I have two Serge Lutens, one a manufacturer’s sample of Laine de Verre and the other a decant of Fille en Aiguilles. I read the reviews of both on NST, and opted for Fille en Aiguilles. I’m probably going to sound like a philistine, but to me Holy Smoke from Demeter smells much the same and boy, is it cheaper. That being said, I like the incense in this, and it was cool enough this morning that it works. I will probably try to reserve it for winter, or as we say in Texas not-Summer.
I love Serge Lutens, but Fille en Aiguilles didn’t work for me either. I got a lot of smokiness and not much else.
I love Fille en Aiguilles, you smell great!!!
Never saw Demeter here in Europe, so I cant compare 🙁 (why are so many American indie/niche brands avoiding Europe? ????)
Apparently Demeter fragrances go by the name “The Library of Fragrance” in Europe. Give this site a try: http://www.thelibraryoffragrance.eu/
you smell like Christmas! 🙂
I bet if you were to put these two at the same time on two wrists, you’d take it back 😉
I love many of the Lutens fragrances but the warm chutney spices in La Fille et Aiguille just don’t sit right for me somehow.
I’m going big in Tubereuse Criminelle! Well, just a few drops, so not that big. I understand this scent a bit more each time I try it, but I don’t think I’ll ever need a fb.
Happy Friday!
a few drops are enough indeed- I’m enjoying it today (and I’m happy to have a FB)
I accidentally bought 3 bottles at once on Ebay years ago
I did end up selling the 2 extra – nobody needs 3 bottles of T Crim.
😛 😛
Wow! While I’d be thrilled to get three bottles of anything when I was expecting only one, that would probably be enough TC for 2 lifetimes . . .
How do you accidentally buy 3 bottles? 🙂
I hit buy it now, and the purchase didn’t seem to go through, so I did it again, and again
Honest 😀
Lol – I once ended up with two Kiehl’s eye creams that same way.
completely agree with you!
TC is a BIG scent! It’s also a little challenging to my nose, but in a good way.
This was ice pick to my nose and up to the brain – a big no.
I do not own any Lutens. Today I am wearing a few dabs of Coco parfum. Happy Friday!!
You smell divine!
Smelling wonderful Barqs!
You smell fab!
you smell wonderful! great day for Coco
You smell exquisite! Coco parfum is true perfection. ????
You smell fantastic!
Gorgeous!
That one is an opulent beauty!
I’m in Datura Noir today too! It’s my favorite, but I love every Lutens-even Dent de Lait! 😮
Hey twin!!
(I have nothing to say about Dent de Lait)
I do love Datura Noir also. Since datura is so polarizing I’m glad to see a few other fans of it here. That photo is also really interesting, Robin.
We have wild datura growing in our yard, and I need to start paying attention to the seed pods, they do look cool!
I’m very happy to have today off. I’m wearing TM Over the Musk. I’ve been wearing Mugler all week, and all of a sudden started picking up a note in all of them, almost salty…. I don’t know, but it’s been bothering me. I’m hoping it’s just my sinuses.
Very nice…i’m Very curious about this line.
Uh oh. If it’s bothering you, I hope it’s just sinuses, too.????????But, obviously, I don’t hope you’re having sinus misery!
Sorry to hear that your Muglers have been a little wonky this week. I hope that it’s temporary.
I came here to wear Lutens and kick butt, and I’m all out of Lutens…
Seriously though, I have gone through (or swapped) all my Lutens samples/decants, and I do not own any at the moment. Wearing Elie Saab La Rose instead. Not at all Lutens-y.
How is that Elie Saab? Same with me. Swapped out some of my SLs in the end.
Trying Fourreau Noir today. I was very hesitant because lavender and I regard each other with deep suspicion, but this is warm and lovely with a sort of licorice sensation. Really enjoying this!
Twins! I am enjoying Fourreau Noir a lot.
you both smell great!
You smell great! I love Fourreau Noir.
This is one of Lutens that I really like but for some reason haven’t got even a descent decant yet. I should. Anybody’s splitting?
You smell very nice!
I’d be up for a sizeable split if someone was hosting. Looks like it’s not one of the ones fragrancenet is carrying. Boo. 🙁
Luckyscent has 2 x 30ml sprays.
It’s a bell jar scent, but Luckyscent still has the Vapo Tout Noir set of 2 x 30ml sprays available for $190.
Happy Friday! I don’t have to go to work or anywhere else so I have coated myself in Borneo 1834. Oooh, I stink, but I stink nice! One of the best patchouli scents there is.
You do stink good! One of my favorite patchoulis.
LOve Borneo, you smell great!
smelling wonderful!
I remember not liking it several years ago but since my tastes changed, I should probably re-visit my sample (if nothing else – to see if it’s still “alive” 🙂 ).
Sarrasins for this dreary, rainy/sleety day. I’m wowed every time I wear this one. Dragging a bit today. Saw Hello, Dolly last night with Bernadette Peters as Dolly. Fun time! The trip home, not as much with subway closures. Had to wait 20 minutes for a shuttle bus in the pouring rain and I was cold and soaked by the time I got home! I slept like a rock, though.
I had never seen Hello, Dolly until just a few years ago and it’s become one of my favorite movie musicals ever. It’s got some of the best musical numbers – the grand finale in the restaurant is epic. I’d love to see the stage version!
I’d seen the movie many moons ago so Babs and Walter Mathau may have set the bar. This was a fun production and I liked Bernadette Peters. I missed out on Bette Midler-think I would have preferred her. Yes! The restaurant scene was my favorite part.
Have you ever seen Wall•E? Hello, Dolly is permanently associated with it in my mind now.????
You smell fantastic! You know I love Sarrasins as well 🙂
I went for the other SL jasmine today. A la nuit.
(I wore Sarrasins three days in a row during my weekend in Berlin last week)
I do and I associate it with you! A la Nuit is nice, too.
you smell great.
Thank you!
So jealous, would love to see Hello Dolly, even in the cold and wet!
Had I known, I’d have chosen a different day, but it was still good fun. Do see it if it shows near you!
I have never even tried Sarrasins and always wanted to. I almost splurged on a bell jar when I saw that Neiman’s carries it but I’ve moved away from SL into other lines recently and worried it would go neglected. I’m wondering if there would be interest enough in a split sometime? It would be a blind buy for me but given my love of other SL florals I think it would be safe. I would love to hear more opinions on it, especially in comparison to A la nuit.
It’s darker and sweeter than AlN. Starts out potent, indolic jasmine and calms into a dark, gorgeous honey/jasmine, almost verging on syrupy. AlN is fresher and greener in comparison. And less sweet. If you’re a jasmine lover, you’d probably love it. I’m still working through a decant as I dab very sparingly and don’t wear it that often. I’m sure you’d find split takers.
THANK YOU! You got me at the syrupy. I think I may end up doing this one day.
Not interested in the split of this one, but if you decide to go for it, do not buy from NM – ask hajusuuri or me for the e-mail of the “personal shopper” who brings it back from Paris regularly for much cheaper than NM price + tax (I’m not affiliated – just a customer).
Oh, thank you, I will!!
Hey MJP I am IN on a split ( ha! Here we go again ????) of Sarrasins anytime you’d like!
I used up my decant too long ago.
Sarrasins is still on my to-sniff list—I’ll get to it eventually. Hello, Dolly with Bernadette Peters—what fun!
I think it’s a beauty and I’m just as enamored by the juice color!
Hello, scent twin! Glad to hear your take on Hello Dolly with Ms. Peters in the starring role.
And to think she just turned 70 this week, if I am not mistaken!
I’m in Sa Majeste la Rose, a light, beautiful, spring rose. Very easy to wear.
I think this is becoming one of my favorite fresh roses, thanks to you ????
Aww, you are more than welcome. And you hav certainly sent me some treasures as well. ????
Ooh, *have*
You smell wonderful! I love Sa Masjeste la rose, but I think of it as sort of rich somewhat difficult scent at first, every nose is different!
No SL for me today. I went with Rose Jam instead. Such a fun scent!
Heard hail hitting the windows this morning. Back to overcast, yuck weather. But at least it’s Friday!
No plans this weekend and hope to keep it that way. I need rest, and lazy, do nothing time.
Ooh, the Rose Jam body spray? How is the sillage and longevity?
I’m using the perfume, but the spray is supposed to be very good. The perfume is crazy sillage and longevity — i only dab this one.
I’ve never seen the perfume. Is it Europe-only? Limited edition?
No idea. I was able to swap some during one of the swapmeets, but I’ve never seen it in the US in perfume form. 🙁
I bought the perfume online the first year it came out.
How does it compare to the body wash? (If you’ve tried that!)
I have the 2017 body spray and find it ENORMOUSLY strong. It might be too much for me honestly…time will tell!
I *think* I saw it at the 34th st store? They had a lot of the ones that were previously unavailable here.
Really? I don’t remember seeing it there but maybe it is now. I saw many others, however. The body spray is there.
Not sure about you but I can’t stand going to that part of the city and try to avoid it as much as possible.
Ah, maybe it was the body spray I saw. I’m sort of near there some days for work (33rd &1st) so I’ll walk over there occasionally. But, yes, too many people it gives me a headache.
Had every intention of topping off my iris-centric week with ISM today. However, the spring-like weather we’d been enjoying turned back into winter with a fury overnight. Chergui it is!
Smelling great!
Twins!????
Triplets!! Chergui is my only FB from Uncle Serge.
You smell heavenly!
I should try to wear it at least once again before it gets too warm. You smell great!
Only have a few Lutens samples and came upon Chergui first. The sample is so dark, almost oily looking. But the smokiness is nice in this wet coldness.
I thought I still had some Chergui left, but alas I do not. Going to have to remedy that!
Chergui????
Twin!! Love the warmth on this cold day.
Triplets!!
Am at the bottom of my bottle so it went in like oily brown goo
Love it
Perfect for cold days!
I’m obsessing about a single bottle of Balenciaga Rosabotanica I saw at TJ Maxx a couple days ago. I tried it when it was first released but all I remember is the gorgeous bottle. I don’t hear any talk about it in our NST community. Any thoughts?
Great top notes. But it falls flat after a while, IMO.
Bummer it’s greatness doesn’t last!
I had a rollerball of it for awhile. I wanted to love it, but just didn’t. For me, it’s a watery pretty floral. I would say it’s not more than 20 dollars pretty, maybe a little more because of the gorgeous bottle.
Your not more than $20 pretty is helpful! That bottle though…!
Nightingale , My daughter gifted it to me upon her departure and layered over rose jam shower gel or Argan cream it is a fun, happy lighthearted duo. It starts out so perfect & fresh. Try doubling up on the rose. I get it!!
I actually like Florabotanica quite a bit. It’s one of the few fresh roses I can wear.
2-2. Maybe I should just see if it’s still there ????
Lookup candypetfume boy’s review. Hedoes itjustice!!
Sorry still no power – eating oatmeal @ the sunny kitchen table fir warmth, my eyes are soooo tired from all my fun research. Verduct- now I nust re try Chergui! I
Pls forgive tupos- working from phone now…..running out of charging gear. The car is next! :/
Tj maxx usually lets you return perfume. Give it a try.
It’s still there! I’m going to get it. The worst that can happen is my 20 y/o daughter will expand her fragrance collection! Thanks for your comments!!
I am still in a seriously grumpy mood after dealing with my younger son’s teacher yesterday. Long, boring, TMI story (he has an IEP), but the upshot is that to deal with her I must 1. flatter her excessively, 2. abase myself, but especially my “excessive worry,” 3. apologize for how I communicate over and over again, 4. Very very slyly through the back door introduce the problem to her, but in such a way as that she thinks she has discovered it herself and therefor it is worthy of being solved. Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh~!
I’m in the most un-SL fragrance ever, Miu Miu L’eau Bleue. Later after my shower I will join the fray in Chergui.
Sorry to hear about this difficult teacher. (Now just imagine her with a gun. No, don’t.) But what is IEP? I don’t know.
In Maryland, an “Individualized Education Program (IEP) is a written statement and a legal document of the educational program designed to meet a student’s individual needs.” It’s ironic as well as unfortunate that a teacher trained to meet special education needs should be so difficult to deal with, so I particularly feel for Oakland Fresca.
You must have read the narcissism handbook first. So sorry you had to deal with that. Sounds like a frustrating game ????
Been there — you so have my sympathies!! Stay strong.
You will smell awesome in Chergui and my thoughts are with you on the difficult teacher. (((HUGS)))!
Sorry about all the sucking up you have to do. Your son is worth it and it’s just an act you have to put on, hope you can shrug it off.
Ugh. I have to work with several teachers like that, and it is ridiculous. I’m sorry that you have to deal with that for something as important as an IEP.
The stupid thing is that I actually think she is a good teacher, and a good teacher for my son. But her skin is so thin…she can be very unpleasant to deal with.
ug, so sorry Oakland Fresca. that is really frustrating. I hope your son gets a new better teacher next year.
Sending my sympathies. My daughter’s middle school teacher was similar. She always seemed to act as if she knew better than me, what was best for my child. I wish you luck getting what you need for your son.
Have you considered a career as a diplomat, Oakland Fresca? You’d be fantastic! So sorry you have to deal with such an inconsiderate teacher.
I’m sorry you have to go through that 🙁 kudos to you for figuring out how to deal with her!
SoTD is SL Encens et Lavande! My FAVORITE S Lutens, I cant help myslef, it is magnetic and irresistible and I surrender!! . Between the smoldering cinders and the lavender it is always comfortable and appropriate changing just emough to hold my interest. It matches the color of thistle in your photo Robin, a more periwinkle grayed blue than the actual color in the bell jar. I wil own this in 2018!!
Your description just made me go add this to my to-try list!!! Sounds incredible!
Mmmm…I love Encens et Lavande and just ordered another decant. If I ever buy a bell jar that will be the one…
Oh good heavens, I’ll have to try this.
It’s FriYAY!!!!!!!
The only Lutens that I have a decant of is Five O’Clock Au Gingembre, and it’s GLORIOUS! I had forgotten about it, and I’m so glad this week’s challenge reminded me!
Have a great weekend Y’all…..My extended family is FINALLY celebrating Christmas this weekend! LOL! I am SO SICK of looking at Christmas presents that have been sitting around since December! 🙂 Deck the halls!
Merry Christmarch!
????
🙂 🙂 ha!
+1 belly laugh
Mmmm…easily my favourite and most worn Lutens’ frag. You smell spicy and amazing 🙂
YAY! Someone else who is having Christmarch!!
Beautiful picture today! I’m wearing Baptême du Feu, which I fell for almost immediately.
We’re having a strange wind storm, and power went out at the office, so I’m working at home with the kitties. As long as the power stays on at my house, this makes for a pretty good Friday. I hope everyone else who’s dealing with variations of this storm is safe!
The weather here is meh.. but we have power
I fell in love with BdF as well, you smell great!
Oooh just ordered a decant of this to try the other day 🙂
I just bought a cheapie bottle from Fragrancenet. I can split this if anyone is interested but it will need to be done after I’ve fulfilled all my split meet obligations.
I’m in Arabie today and loving it. Dabbed it on instead of spraying to keep it a bit muted for work and it’s working perfectly. I hope everyone has an awesome Friday!!
To my nose, the idea that you can both be wearing “Arabie” and be muted is an impossibility! I do own that one but it’s such a scent bomb that I don’t wear it, almost ever.
Well, like I said, I just dabbed a few drops and I can still smell it this afternoon! But I don’t think it was too much- one little dab on one arm and one on the neck. 😉
SotD = A la Nuit
Flowery for starters, then it’s tart’s knickers!
Have a fabulous fragrant Friday, NST friends. 😉
It’s getting the love it deserves here today!! Wear it for me!
Will do! I’ll wear more A la Nuit this evening. 😀
Yay, we were twins yesterday (i am a bit late catching up with comments)
A la nuit always brings a big smile to my face, happiness in a bottle ????
Thought about Chergui, but landed on Fille De Berlin (which autocorrect wants to change to Feel Dr. Berlin. Uh, no.).
I wore Fille last night and Chergui today….twins!!!
Ha! That’s hilarious!
You smell fabulous! Now that’s one seriously amusing autocorrect!
I quite literally laughed out loud reading about your autocorrect. That’s a good one!
Happy Uncle Serge day to everyone – I discovered, on Monday, in my desk at work a sample of Feminite du Bois that I got 6 years ago at Barney’s in San Francisco. FdB was also one of the first perfumes I owned (the Shiseido one) way back when….and I think I threw it away when I moved out my university dorm, at which point the bottle was already several years old and I thought likely had gone off. Oh boy.
Sample is still going strong. In fact, it’s hovering right on the edge of headache for me. Just a tad too rich, too woody, too heady, and totally not office friendly. Now I know why I didn’t wear it much when I owned it, even though it is beautiful, too. Happy Friday!!
If I was in your office with you, I would be loving it. FdB is not too any of that for me! I hope it doesn’t give you a headache — but you smell glorious!!!
Holy cow look at all the comments!
I’m in my beloved Chergui, which was a FB blind buy that worked out really swell. ????
Happy Friday to all. I’m off for breakfast and coffee coffee coffee! This cheered me to be end yesterday, especially the bare feet. If you’re feeling a bit blah, give it a look see.

What a great video!! Yes, love the shots of their contrasting feet in front of the fire, him with his hopping boots on!
Great video! Thanks for sharing..
Wow! That’s some dexterity right there. Thanks for the link.
Love this!
You smell great, Deva. Thanks for sharing that awesome video! In return, I’ll offer you this one, which also fights the blahs:

Oh, they are FABulous! I think we should do a community project that links out SOTD choice with a favorite music video! I would LOVE to see what everyone comes up with ????
I’ve seen them live—at like 10 feet from the stage—and they are phenomenal.
I love that idea for a project!
I chose Fille en Aiguilles because I haven’t worn this one all winter, and I recently pulled out my decant. Ugh, so good! Piney, sweet incense. I hope I didn’t spray too much for my coworker’s liking. I’m using an Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant shower gel right now, and if I was thinking properly in the early morning hours, I would have used it today. I bet it pairs beautifully with FeA. The shower gel really lingers on skin afterwards.
Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin
a dark rose beauty
Love it…wore it last night to a cocktail party and drew lots of raves.
Perfection!
I’ve had the best Uncle Serge week, thanks to Robin for the inspiration! Today is Feminite du Bois, yesterday Boxeuses, Wednesday Sa Majeste La Rose, Tuesday Santal Blanc and Monday started strong with Rose de Nuit.
It’s neat to read your list as it makes me realize how varied his output actually is. I tend to associate SL with a certain kind of thing (spicy, fruity) but that’s really not at all true.
Chene! To which I’ve added a tiny dab of Ciel de Gum (these two being at the tip-top of my wishlist) In the meantime, it’s a beautiful combo. Going out fragrantly into the land of deadlines.
Hope all deadlines were met!
Today my “wear the perfumes in the order I bought them” and the community project overlap – I’m in Gris Clair, which was the last bottle I purchased in 2015. I took a long perfume hiatus from 2006 to 2014, so only started my collection 4 years ago.
By the end of 2015 I had a nice collection of 6 bottles. I did not have any sweet, iris-forward or truly woody scents – this was taken care of in 2016 and 2017. I find it really interesting to see how my buying/ tastes proceeded, and what my priorities were.
Stay safe and comfortable if you are facing storms, either weather or personal!
oh cool project!
Twins! We smell lovely 🙂
Happy Friday, Guys!
1) Reminder: Oscars are this weekend!
2) I do not have a Serge Lutens in rotation.
3) BUT! I am wearing Molinard Jasmine layered over The Body Shop Almond Milk body cream. The almond and jasmine/rose together is VERY lovely indeed, without being overly sweet. I highly reccomend the The Body shop Almond Milk collection- VERY smoothing, very hydrating BUT not overly heavy nor clogging on the skin. And the fragrance on it’s own is simply lovely and subtle.
4) I have a huge zit that looks like Mt. Vesuvius.
I will definitely check out the Almond Milk collection as I’m loving all things almond these days. Sorry about #4 🙁
I really feel that you will enjoy it, especially if you have dry skin that is also sensitive. The fragrance is both rich and subtle. I look forward to using the entire line this spring:
https://www.thebodyshop.com/en-us/collection/almond-milk-honey/c/c03232
I’ve excavated some of Vesuvius’s output! And I feel your pain, literally: this week I’ve had a volcano right at the top of my nose where the bridge of my glasses hits. It’s caused actual headaches. ????
Uggh! It’s just there and I have gently wiped it with BHA solution and tapped it with benzyl peroxide and it sits so angry looking, ready to erupt. JUST ERUPT ALREADY.
Wearing some Bas de Soie, which is telling me it’s spring, but the weather is not in agreement!
Weather here is clearly January 🙁
Wearing Sa Majeste today. I want to thank everyone for the support and good wishes offered yesterday about my dog’s surgery. I just got a call that the surgery went so well that they feel comfortable releasing him this afternoon instead of keeping him overnight, so I am ecstatic. It’s a great beginning for the weekend.
great news! And, you smell wonderful.
Happy to hear the surgery went fine. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
Happy, happy news! Hope your pooch continues to astonish with a super speedy recovery! ????
You smell elegant and wonderful, and your dog’s news makes me happy!
Yay! Continued healing vibes for your beloved doggie.
Good news! Wishing him a speedy recovery!
+ 1 tail wag
Awesome news about your dog! ????
Super news!
Today I’m wearing SL’s Bas de Soire
Oops, I meant SL’s Bas de Soie.
I love and own this one. It smells so different on different people, I guess I got lucky! I always get compliments. Should have bought a backup bottle….
After a couple of very welcomed rainy days, I’m enjoying this sunny Friday in Boxeuses. For a long while it was my “spine strengthening” scent but since I changed jobs, I had less and less reasons to wear it. So I’m taking this community project as an opportunity to visit an old friend. I still like it.
You smell great!
Happy Uncle Serge Night!
Lovely comments. I am in Rousse tonight.
Take care Everyone!
I have only a few drops of Rousse left, and I’m so sad it’s gone, even from secondary sellers!
SOTD = Chergui !!!
Just right for a blustery wet day! Musky honeyed amber with chocolate (chocolate is nit listed but I think the combination of honey and tobacco is making me think that).
I haven’t yet read any comments but I predict a good showing of Chergui.
BTW, if you did not like Chergui on first or second try, consider spraying more the next time. I know it’s counter-intuitive but in some cases, overspraying is the key to enjoying a perfume.
We are Twins!!! Love Chergui and I am always generous when spraying. Hope you are not out in this crazy weather!! I’ve had two meetings cancel and am waiting to hear if the local theatre planned for tonight is postponed. The show does not always go on!!
If you thought that NJ Transit has a plan to deal with transit issues that are known to happen, you would be wrong. Newark Penn was just a sea of people pushing and shoving. And some have come to fisticuffs and shouting matches. Unbelievable!
Hey there!
Is it really wet back East?
yes, and so so windy
In between the avenues I thought I was going to blow away.
Yeah, we are getting news of the n’oreaster and I was wondering how it was! Jeeze, stay dry and warm with your Buddhas!
What ltsg said. My umbrella turned inside out several times that I’m afraid I may have to say goodbye to it soon ????
You smell great! I wore it yesterday when my weather was cooler.
Are you getting hit by that nor’easter? Stay warm/dry/safe!
Thank you. It is very wet and I think we have not seen the worst of the wind!
I used my Chergui so heavy handedly that I finished my decant extremely fast 🙂
You and your scent-eating skin!
I see quite a bit of Chergui. I’m wondering if this would smell as good on a male and worth a blind buy.
Definitely unisex but not sure I’d blind buy it. I’d go for a samole or decant first. I was sure I’d love it but didn’t, though I may be in the minority.
Thank you. ????
As much as I’m usually against blind buys and agree with Elisa P that it is not a universally loved perfume (I do happen to love it), I think that unless you can test it for free (in a store or getting it in a friendly swap), it almost makes sense to buy the old package bottle (50 ml) if you find it on a good sale: Chergui is one of the perfumes that you should be able to swap easily if you end up not liking it.
True as I got a partial bottle and was able to sell it pretty quickly.
What ElisaP and Undina said! There was a time when only a few stores have it.
Feel free to email me and I will send you some.
Chergui is not a scent to blind buy, IMO. I am one of the few people who did not care for it when I tried it. Definitely unisex, though.
Ha! ‘H’ you had me @ must spray more! ????
I have been in a funk this February, I’m sure many of us have. My genius solution for today: take a shower, get fully dressed.
I think I have smelled 4 Serge Lutens so far:
Ambre Sultan – love
Sa Majeste La Rose – love
A la Nuit – mixed opinion
Jeux de Peau – ew!
at first spray A la Nuit smells like so many commercial bathroom cleaners I don’t have great associations with – like gas station bathrooms. Does anyone have great associations with gas station bathrooms? 🙂 Intellectually I know it is beautiful, and it is my own issue having spent more time around industrial cleaners than tropical flowers.
Today, I’m trying Jeux de Peau. At first it smelled like a sugary nut flavored candle, I thought oh that’s funny. When it dried down a few minutes I asked my husband, he said “gourmand with a sort of burnt smell, woody, cedar”. So, is my husband turning into a perfume genius? So annoying.
Now, sadly, it’s kind of nauseating me – I get a little of the bakery vibe – but more “back of the bakery” to me – maybe dough got caught in a greasy gear, near a dusty fan. Smells sort of industrial, or maybe like burnt dirt.
Obviously Serge Lutens grew up in a different time and place, and smelled things I have never smelled. I live in a pretty sanitary world. So I appreciate this scent, but it’s not enjoyable for me today.
Amazing what a shower and getting dressed might do! Sorry about the funk ????
1) I totally get it about gas station bathroom. Some jasmine (and almond) perfumes smell like that to me (a few Guerlains fall in to that). A la Nuit just missed it for me since it has enough green to my nose.
2) Jeaux de Peau was overwhelmingly movie theater artificial popcorn butter to me, but the smell at the concession so a bit of that burnt grease thing to me, too.
ooo curious, which Guerlains?
Mahora, big time and MpN and LHB to a lesser extent, but I like those 2 anyway.
Oh interesting, You just don’t know till you smell…
I’m a ‘no’ on the Jeux de peau too — just like Elisa said, it’s buttered popcorn on top for me which I do not want in a perfume! The drydown is nice enough but I am unwilling to sit through the ‘ew’ part!
Yes, i’m smelling the dry down now – and it is pretty nice. I had an older woman, in her 70s smell it, and she said it smelled ultra Femme like chantilly lace
Sort of reminds me of alaia now, but no – not willing to suffer through either
FRIDAY! It couldn’t come soon enough this week!
I’m in SL Ambre Sultan. The one advantage of the winter storm we had last night is that it brought in weather cool enough to wear this.
Boring today and sticking to my house project. Tam Dao.
Serge Lutens isn’t until May 30-June 13th.
Not boring at all; you smell great!
Sounds like a good plan..
Hey, I am not even in an SL today and I have plenty of samples to choose from..
There’s nothing boring about Tam Dao! Delicious, creamy comfort to me.
Santal Majuscule.
Love this rose and sandalwood combo! Down to the last third of my bottle which always prompts my ongoing debate- hoard remainder or buy another bottle? ????????
I decided to get another bottle, around $75 on fragrancenet.com.
I would love to take a peek at your backup bottle vault! I bet it’s spectacular.☺️
Two bins of unopened bottles, plus duplicates of many in my two residences. Definitely OTT.
Sounds perfect to me????
You smell divine!
Thank you! It’s still going strong.
SOTD= Chergui
Needed something to warm up the day. Stay safe on the roads to those of you out in this wacky storm.
You smell great!
So windy here..
Here too!
Rushing around in horrible weather, but I am wearing De Profundis, so at least I smell good!
Yes, you do!
Don’t rush, stay safe, you will get there.
Yes good to remember! Thank you!
You smell wonderful! I had intended to wear De Profundis today (after breaking down and ordering another small decant from STC), but I’ve been battling The Cold That Will Not End for weeks now and all I wanted this morning was OJ Woman. So I guess I’m your Twin In Spirit, if not in actuality.
Cher Oncle Serge! My SDJ (Serge du jour) is Rose de Nuit.
If the Universe were to drop a bell jar of this in my lap, I really wouldn’t mind. ????
All you lovely NSTers out there are surely making the wold an extra-interesting-and-fabulous smelling place today. Can’t wait to see what everyone’s wearing!
Have an awesome Friday!
I don’t have an olfactory impression of Rose de Nuit. I bet you smell great!
I can only attest to experiencing it lightly dabbed, but I’d second Jessica’s classification of it as a chypre rose.
https://nstperfume.com/2012/12/21/25-rose-fragrances-every-perfumista-should-try/
Victoria of BdJ mentions chypre elements, too, and her review seems to match my experience with it.
https://boisdejasmin.com/2006/01/fragrance_revie_14.html
It’s a dry, dark rose. If you took POAL and swapped the patchouli and incense for musk, beeswax, and a bit of apricot…
????must try!
It’s gorgeous, you’d love it. 🙂
MKK again today.
I started with 3 sprays of A la nuit and then for some reason I sprayed Slowdive on top. Then 2 more sprays of A la nuit. I don’t know what I’m doing today.
Hmmm, I don’t know if I should come sit beside you, or run away… 😀
(That’s mostly because I don’t know what Slowdive smells like; I’d be fine with the A la Nuit.)
Slowdive is the most true-to-life honey scent that I’ve ever experienced. To me, it’s not sorta like honey or reminiscent of honey – it IS honey. It’s apparently no match for the A la nuit though! So you’re wise to be sitting at a distance. 🙂
How’s it working out? I find Slowdive a little monotone, so am curious.
Monotone is a good word for the Slowdive! I don’t know why I was so surprised that it was so HONEY! That’s what all the reviews said but I guess I expected something more stylized. That’s why I tried this layering thing. You see things like “a honeyed jasmine” in scent descriptions all the time so I was like, why not? Verdict is that it’s nice but I probably would’ve enjoyed just one or two sprays of the A la nuit on its own. I’ve turned it into a competition now. I also am apologetic in advance to any unsuspecting strangers I will encounter when I leave the house later.
Sounds like you made your own Sarrasins ????
I thought there would be more tobacco, of which I get none. I need a good tobacco perfume . . .
I only have a dabber of Slowdive but I did catch a whiff of tobacco on my skin.
I get a lot of tobacco in Slowdive!
Rania J Ambre Loup smells like tobacco without tobacco as a note.
Just received my bottle of Atelier Cologne Tobacco Nuit. I think I’ll try it with Slowdive next time I wear it.
+ 1. Belly laugh
Was not at all in a Serge mood this morning. What I really wanted to wear for its bright cheerfulness was Arielle Shoshana. But I had ‘serious’ meetings to attend, so went with Notturno Fiorentino instead. Now of course I can’t wait to get home from work and put on some AS!
Be well and stay safe, all.
Oooo, your wistfulness for the Arielle has me even more excited for the split that mals did….!!
You will enjoy AS. It is a very happy and bright perfume. You never get tired of it!
I’m starting my Saturday in Chypre Rouge, after a hectic week where I didn’t manage to participate in the project, despite having enough SLs to do a fortnight. I was away for a few days looking after my elderly mother who had gallbaldder surgery, I’m getting the kitchen renovated and I had a job interview yesterday – I’m very glad it’s Saturday and I’m feeling relaxed, even though the kitchen is in ruins!
It’s the first time I’ve done any renovations, I was very anxious, but now that it’s underway, I’m quite OK that there’s been a complication with the benchtop, and that it might be a couple of weeks without a kitchen.
Goodness, you’ve had quite a lot on your plate! Hope that your mother is doing well; the job interview went perfectly; and the kitchen reno goes along without other major problems.
You seem to be holding up well. Keep calm and spritz on!
Totally hectic week! Wishing your mother well, and good luck with everything else!
I’m one of the few who liked Chypre Rouge, went through a 15ml decant, but never bought a bottle, wish I had!
Wow, you’ve been busy! Best of luck with your kitchen reno and hope that your mom is recovering quickly from the surgery.
I wore Chypre Rouge today, as well!
Woke up this morning and grabbed De Profundis even though I wanted to wear Arabie. Since De Profundis is almost gone, I will wear Arabie in another hour. Arabie was my first Serge.
My decant of Tuberose Criminelle is at work….and since we have over a foot of snow and it is still snowing, 50mph wind gusts and just had our power restored after almost 6 hours of nothing I never made it to work….all you folks who love snow feel free to come to my house tomorrow and help me shovel my driveway 🙂
St. Clair Scents First Cut today inspired by Jessica’s lovely review…and testing Carven Le Parfum (classy clean sweet pea…would be great for the office) and Si (very sweet on my skin)
Spring can’t get here soon enough!
Glad your power is back. I’m your snow hating twin, I really feel for you. Stay safe!
I know you are getting snow as well and I think yours started before mine did….you too stay safe!!!
I lucked out, was supposed to get snow, and then it shifted se of me. I saw the storm your getting on the news, It’s just awful!
Wow! You are being hit badly. Stay safe and warm!
The city is getting hit hard with the wind so you too stay safe and warm!! Especially if you are outside!
Yes, I am at work and leaving in 1 hour. The wintry mix, but especially the high winds are really bad. I hope my commute does not take too long.
Get home safe 🙂
So windy here too!! Scary! They let us go home early today. No snow yet, just slushy rain so far. Glad you got your power back!
You are in the city too, right? Yes, it is wet and yucky according to my parents…well, at least you got to go home early 🙂
I am. They did it mostly for my coworkers who live in the burbs and drive. I’m the only city dweller in my dept. But happy to have a shorter day ????
Still a miserable walk to public transportation. The rain is horizontal. An umbrella is useless.
Like many others, in Chergui today. Had to spray lightly this morning before reaching but now I’m going to go up and spray lavishly – thanks for the tip, Hajusuuri!!
Do you like it better with more sprays?
Nothing by Lutens in my stash right now, so I’m in Roses de Chloe. It is trying so hard to be spring here, I thought I’d help it along.
It needs all the help it can get 🙂
Always in La Fille de Berlin, it’s my birthday weekend so I’m sticking with what’s good for me. Uncle Serge knows!
Happy birthday weekend!
Happy birthday!
Enjoy your birthday weekend!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Scented Birthday!
Happy birthday!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes! 🙂
A little late today. Mr. Jalapeno bugged out of work early this afternoon due to the nasty weather, and a brief loss of power at work. Also the possibility of hitting debris on the roads…lots of downed trees in the area.
SOTD = SL Sarrasins. I wore one of his jasmines yesterday, and decided to wear the other one today. Looks like Sarrasins doesn’t last as long on me as Al A Nuit does.
Hope all the NSTers affected by this horrid weather today find themselves safe, warm and dry tonight! And not lose power! ????
Surprisingly, I haven’t lost power yet. I hope you keep your power as well.
I’m sure that. I have many twins. SOTD IS Chergui.
Yes you do! Twinsies!
Not wearing SL today because I am testing samples of various Areej le Doré fragrances that Kafkaesque has reviewed:
http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2018/01/31/new-releases-areej-le-dore-russian-musk-russian-oud-indolis-walimah-attar-mini-reviews/
My nose often picks up different notes than hers, but I consider that her reviews give a good idea of the complexity, depth, and varied evolution of these natural perfumes.
Nozknoz thank you for sharing that review. I have been out of power since the power pole hit my holly trees @ 7am and have thoroughly enjoyed my full day ( and now night) of perfume reading. ( thanks to backlit iPads!) The Russian Oud sounds amazing and I am very curious about Indolis. Please let us know what you think!!!
I hope you get power soon. How are you staying warm?
The family room fireplace! 2 dogs hubby, 1 cat and sleeping bags. A fun camping day but ….
Day 2 , and it’s losing it’s shine. Off to the gym for a hot shower I fear!!! I need to wear something pretty today.
I enjoy sampling all of them. None of them are stinky ouds. My favorite so far is Walimah in the attar version (I haven’t tried the parfum). It starts with a burst of tropical flowers — like walking into the green house of the US Botanic Garden when the ylang ylang tree and tons of orchids are blooming. Gradually the flowers tone down and suddenly merge into a leather accord. It stays leather with some modulation for quite a while, and then gets softer in the dry down.
I don’t know what they would be like if I had spray bottles, but there is not much projection when you are dabbing. Not sure I would recommend one of the $300 to $400 bottles, but they are great to sample. Luckyscent and Surrender to Chance are sources.
I’m curious about Indolis, too! Will report back.
Thanks for posting this – it’s so helpful to get another take on these! I was attracted to the floral angles of this latest batch of releases from AlD but am nervous since I got almost zero floral out of the previous ones I’d tried, despite others reporting jasmine et al in them. This Walimah sounds promising for me!!
Thank You- I passed over that review somehow but now it’s definitely worth the sample pack.. Please report back on Indolis.
Just back from a Costco trip after work. Sprayed on some Chergui to enjoy with my wine!
Off to read everyone’s choices for the day.
Twins! How goes your plan to leave the office scene?
Well I have some dental work upcoming. I think it will be a bit pricey even with my benefits so it may be awhile yet.
Yesterday I was all wrapped up in my Rania J exploration (I’ve worn T. Habanero, very strong and very appropriate for the snowy climate we’re having in Europe) and I forgot that it was Serge Lutens day! So, today I’m wearing my favoutite: Chergui, in all its warm, dry, amber-ish glory
