Hump Day, and the last day of February, plus, Pink Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Serge Lutens Sa Majesté la Rose. I do smell awfully pretty.
Reminder: 3/2 will be Uncle Serge Day...wear something by Serge Lutens (a repeat from 2014).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

St. Clair Scents First Cut
Marzipan’s wonky nose smells this: a burst of bright sunny lemon citrus (bergamot?) with something sweet (vanilla?) coupled with a smooth herbaceous quality (my guess is lavender absolute which is sweeter, richer and more refined than regular lavender essential oil…it is what is used in Voyage to give it that suede quality) which segues into a soft honeyed hay on the very fringe of animalic with a sweet drydown. It is a diaphanous and internal scent which sits close on my scent eating skin but I can still smell it hours later. I am wondering how this would present if sprayed versus dabbed on from a dabber (which is what I did this morning). I think it would bloom gorgeously in very hot weather.
This is such a beautiful scent….well crafted and so natural smelling. I am certain the perfumer uses a high percentage of naturals which is why it does not have that synthetic quality that exists in many other perfumes.
Dang. I expect I’m going to have to try these. Does it really smell like fresh-cut hay? I adore that smell.
Mals, my nose is notorious for smelling phantom notes…but I am pretty certain this has hay absolute in it…the perfumer is actually a farmer in Vermont who makes artisanal butter from her own cows milk (you and she have something in common!)…most of her perfumes are inspired by farm scents….I have thus far sampled the two of her three offerings and they remind me of Sonoma Scent Studio fragrances which makes me very happy…plus she sells 13ml bottles!!! Once I get through my samples I might bite the bullet and break my no buy for a full bottle.
I posted this yesterday but you may not have read it-
https://www.stclairscents.com/new-page/
I have zippo affiliation….I am just ga-ga over these fragrances and want to share my enthusiasm!!!
very interesting ! Maybe I will order some samples 🙂
Barqs- you should 🙂
I figure if I am going to break my no buy I would rather do it on an upstart indie than a huge corporation.
Ooooh….might be sample time again….LOL
And then Jada you can do a review on your youtube channel 🙂
And tomorrow I intend on doing a side by side comparison of Frost and SSS Winter Woods because sniffed from the vial they both bear a striking similarity.
Thanks for your review! Sounds lovely. I also love hay notes.
My pleasure…always happy to test out a gorgeous fragrance for the sake of research 🙂
That sounds amazing, and I’ve never heard of this line before, so thank you.
This is where I found the company-
http://www.cafleurebon.com/cafleurebon-profiles-perfumery-diane-st-clair-st-clair-scents-from-the-farm-to-fragrance-draw/
And I won the draw which was a great thing because I am smitten!!!!
Uh-oh! I’ve been in no-buy land since the start of the year, but this sounds like a scent I could only dream of. Thank you!
You’re welcome???
Sorry I may have pushed you over the ledge 😉
Hey Karen! I never got an email from you. Are you still interested in the Shaal Nur decant?
Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed reading both links and hope to sample the perfumes.
My pleasure…I loved reading about her as well and really am enjoying these fragrances.
Ooh, that sounds so good!
I smell pretty in Rituale Mendittorosa , like honey narcissus
Tea this morning is cup of Inka with soy milk listening to Natalie Merchant (my kids are a fan)
Goodbye February…
Want to try that one. Rock on with the kiddos.
You smell great and love the music choice. ????
February did go by very quickly !!!
Oh, I looove Natalie! I’ve seen her in concert many times, both in the Maniacs and solo. Once at a concert while she sang her Beloved Wife, the woman sitting next to me was literally moved to tears. Her voice is like butter!
Your kiddos have excellent taste in music!????
That song made me cry in my car the last time I heard it.
It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it? I’m pretty sure I hear her voice crack on one of the verses.
I have seen her in concert solo, and she was amazing! Her voice is so distinctive..
Natalie!
One of my favourite covers is 10000 maniacs doing Morrisey’s Everyday is like sunday.
I saw her in concert the day George Harrison died and she sang the most haunting version of Something.
I would not have been able to hold it together. What a loss.
So many good songs..I will be listening to her all day now!
You do smell pretty!
SL Un Bois Vanille, the most accessible and work-friendly of his entire output. The illusion of soft sweetness, in reality a sandalwood box full of black licorice and bitter almond, all the edges and angles smoothed over with vanilla and its cousins tonka and benzoin. Actual genius in the guise of simplicity.
I love that one too!
I love your lyrical description, and you smell great! I might join you today in UBV.
I wore this yesterday. The employees at the post office were actually friendly for a change, and I wondered if it was because they like vanilla 🙂
At my little neighborhood post office I often get smiles and kind comments on the scent I’m wearing. It’s nice, but the downside is that they can easily guess what’s in the packages I want to mail!
There is absolutely something about vanilla that puts people in a good mood. It sure can’t hurt.
New Sibet, which I love and admire and don’t think I can bring myself to pay FB price for…
I have a long list of perfumes in that category, so I feel your pain!
Jo Malone Earl Grey & Cucumber.
Has anyone here visited Le Grand Musee du Parfum in Paris? We are trying to make plans for a possible trip to Paris, and I was wondering about this
I just looked up your sotd, Robin and the notes look really good. I haven’t tried a lot of Serge Lutens. The ones I have tried have been from small samples.
Maybe I can try some others from SL’s Paris store, if this trip gets put together 🙂
It is a gorgeous scent that I might need! I’ll need it if it is severely on sale, I think is the right way to put it.
When would you go to Paris? Coin-op and I are both going to Paris in April (though a week apart from each other!). I guess this spring will be the spring of NSTers in Paris. Or maybe that’s every spring?
Whoot whoot going to Paris ????????????
????????????????????????
????????
❤️????????
I have heard of this museum, I would be interested in going, but we don’t have a really tight itinerary – when are you going?
Early September. I am looking forward to hearing about your trips ????
I will just add that it’s really pretty (or it was) but there are a lot of really pretty roses out there! There’s nothing unusual about it.
Paris trip planning..jealous!!!
I like Earl Grey & Cucumber – probably because I don’t smell cucumber in it 🙂
Heretic Parfums Blood Cedar. Wonderful stuff.
Enjoying the Paris Fashion Week videos.
Do you follow GdM on twitter..Denyse has a lot to say about the Dior fashion show
Hmmmmm. I’m not on Twitter. Was it bad?
Umm..mm..well their is a comment policy on NST so I will just say that she wrote about how Dior’s runway show was a tribute to protesters and using political slogans to sell luxury products is not good. I think this reply is safe..
Ohh. Gotcha. I will have to read that policy closer. Hope I didn’t get you in trouble. Or me in trouble. ????. NST is my only social media. No tweets. No FB. ????
I think if we were in trouble Robin would of deleted my comment 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your day!
I think there is a difference between making something a tribute to protesters and monetizing others’ struggles. That said, I haven’t seen or heard anything about this. (I guess I don’t have many friends who watch fashion shows?) I think I’ll have to go check it out and see if I get angry!
I am trying to decide if it’s a political issue to be for or against luxury brands using protest to sell products? Maybe it is, I don’t know. It seems to me it’s more of a consumer issue? And we can talk about it so long as nobody talks about their partisan leanings?
Well, anyway, even I’m confused, but nobody has EVER gotten in trouble here for anything. The worst that happens is that I edit your comment. Or tell you to hush.
And adding, was so busy today that I’m not even responding til hours later, so even if you *were* in trouble it would come awfully late, LOL…
My small bottle of Different Co. Osmanthus came in the mail yesterday. Zulilly had a sale…. I like it, pretty sheer. Meets used to sell a tea with osmanthus in but does not anymore. Does anyone here know of a nice black tea with osmanthus in it?
If you decide you don’t want the TDC Osmanthus, please let me know. Maybe we could do a swap.
Wearing Guerlain Baiser de Russie from the sliptmeet (thanks KPaint!). It is pretty. I like the citrusy opening and the plum note. The drydown is creamy and I saw the sandalwood coming to ruin everything for me, but it never crossed the limits and is staying there very soft and enjoyable. I like it but I do not need more than this small decant.
February went fast, probably because I have been very busy. But I appreciate greatly that is gone and we are slowly getting closer to spring time.
yay for springtime! although we are expecting more snow at the onset of March 🙁
That’s what I heard in the news yesterday. 🙁 I hope spring temperatures do not arrive very late. Patience!
My mistake! Thank you Pixel! The split was yours!????
That’s kind of how I feel about BdR, though I don’t smell any sandalwood. I do get A LOT of caramel and vanilla. I would have preferred sandalwood, personally.
Enjoy the spring-like weather today!
I am getting some vanilla now, not much caramel. Sandalwood is still there, but in the back. It has become a skin scent, but I can still smell the spritz on my sweater. I am glad that it did not make it to my already long full bottle shopping list.
You too enjoy the beautiful day! Back to rain tomorrow evening…
I am waiting for mine! Jealous of your SOTD
I really enjoyed BdR, I love plum notes in perfumes though I wanted more absinthe also. Can’t have it all!
I hope you get it soon!
Yes to everything you said about BdR.
Am decanting Arielle Shoshana today so that’s what I’m wearing. 😀 Such a happy smell.
It is happy and very uplifting. I wear it also in cold and gray days when I need to cheer up.
I’m also wearing Arielle Shoshana. I needed something cheerful, and this fits the bill!
I think this is the only truly fruity perfume that I love — certainly the fruitiest!
It was brilliant of Ari to think of combining her two loves — passionfruit and the creaminess of Saffron Troublant — into one perfume.
Beautiful!
Love! Still using my decant… But I will need another, or a full bottle
I washed my hair and used a sample of Lush Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner and WHOA! What a burst of scent! Woke me right up. Green neroli and orange blossom and my hair smells pretty strongly of orange blossom even after drying it. It’s a light, watery conditioner so good for thinner or oiler hair, like mine.
So that’s my unexpected SOTD. May add a spritz of some sample floating in my bag. Iris Rebelle maybe.
Oh, I love the scent of HHJJ! And yes, it lingers. Lush actually called (or still calls?) it a ‘hair perfume’.
The bottle said “conditioner” but the descriptive blurb said something about perfumed hair.
That sounds nice.
Whenever I use Lush R&B Hair Moisturizer, I get compliments. People will ask me what perfume I am wearing.
I wonder if its the same scent as HHJJ, because I do smell lots of orange blossom.
HHJJ and R&B are very different to me, though I like both scents. HHJJ is fresher and more citrussy (more like neroli cologne), while R&B is sweeter. But, unlike you, I do not get orange blossom from R&B. I consider it a tropical floral (with jasmine, maybe).
I don’t remember how R&B smells, but this smells similar to the Seanik shampoo bar though the smell in that one is a faint, clean OB. In the bottle HHJJ smells like a very bright green salad with orange.
Mmmmm, I love Seanik, it’s one of my favorites.
I like it except for the occasional bits of seaweed I find in my hair later. I know it’s visually pleasing, but I really wish they’d just leave the undigestibles out of their products.
I looove R&B, both the scent and performance, and just went to a Lush store last weekend to re-up. I get jasmine jasmine jasmine and some tuberose.
I got my first jar from my aunt and it created massive sillage in her hair. Every time I saw her I’d start sniffing out the source of the divine white florals. I don’t notice it in my own hair, though – either because it’s too short or because I’ve developed nose-blindness as I use it every time I wash my hair.
Is it the jasmine of Lust or Godiva?
Oh My Gosh you guys, now I am DYING to try this stuff!! All 3 of them, you hit my favorites!!
And Cm8 has me waiting to hear her review of tomorrow’s sample! And it’s bedtime for me, but too curious to sleep….
I’ve not smelled Godiva, but no – it’s not the jasmine of Lust (which smells like boiling corn to me.)
You are right — I pulled it out of my hairstyling drawer a short time ago, and I do smell white florals also.
Normally I use unscented hair products, but I once got a sample of that conditioner and it was heavenly! The scent was so strong that I ended up mixing it with some unscented conditioner to stretch it a little farther.
That’s a really good idea, though I like that it’s a very light conditioner since my hair gets oily after a day or 2. Which unscented do you use?
I use the Whole Foods store brand or Nature’s Gate Tea Tree (not technically unscented, but very low-scent)
Ah, ok. I’ve used NG shampoo and conditioner (the one that smells like almond).
Oh I haven’t tried that one! I love the smell of almonds
Today I’m wearing SL Rousse. I chose it because it’s PINK (well, sort of). For Pink Day. This one goes on way too sweet and too much like a cinnamon hard candy, but after awhile it softens and it’s softer, more woody. I was debating between this and Jeux de Peau, and it now occurs to me they might be nice layered together. Kind of a cinnamon bun sort of thing. Ha ha, now it must be time for breakfast!
Yum, but I’d rather eat my cinnamon bun, methinks.
Wearing Fleurs de Citronnier – a Lutens scent that does not seem popular. I love it. Lemon blossom provides freshness and ‘clean’ feel, but this scent is still a lush white floral. I have a decant from an old rectangular bottle and have no idea whether the modern version is different.
I just looked that one up, and the notes look very nice. Another one I will have to sample 🙂
Yum. I’ve had an eye out for a sample of this one. Thanks for the mini-review.
I’m wearing Folavril, more for the name than for the spring-like quality of the scent.
Oh that is a gorgeous one!!! I am certain it was the very first Annick Goutal fragrance (even before Hadrien)….mangos and tomato leaf..you need to wear it on April 1st!
Last day of my month of roses! I’m in Rose de Nuit, which is lovely. I cheated only a few times (including yesterday in Une Bois Vanille) AND I managed to end the month craving only one new bottle (EldO’s Rossy de Palma). Not bad!
2 great roses! ELDO RdP is a worthy investment IMHO. If you like dark, earthy roses I’d recommend Hendley Rosenthal. Patchy, a little incensy and ambery. I’m loving it.
ELDO is (comparatively) very reasonably priced too . . .
No Uncle Serge fragrances for me this week, as I am away from my normal cooler, dry habitat, and in already warm, definitely swampy west Florida this week for work. Just walking the mile from my hotel in the mornings, I’m a sticky mess. AdV Pelargonium was one of the things I packed for this trip, and it is light, fresh, slightly green-spicy, and delightful in the heat.
Don’t know how you Floridians manage being outdoors in July and August!
My brother and SIL moved to FL some years ago, after living in Virginia until their mid-30s. I think they do a lot of scooting from house to car, from car to office.
You know, I’ve been to Kauai in the hottest time of the year (end of July), and while it is VERY humid there and I sweated a lot, the ocean breezes reach pretty much everywhere on the lower elevations, and it is not oppressive. Florida, on the other hand — I’ve spent vacations there in July and August and was miserable the whole time.
I’m sure some people love it.
Wearing Neela Vermeire Ashoka today. The drydown is every so cozy 🙂
This early spring weather means I’m bringing out ALL the irises and violets. Today I’m in Apres L’Ondee, of which my decant is running dangerously low.
Checked out Frangrancenet a few days ago as suggested by some of you helpful folks. They had a tester for super-cheap… but I’m wary of a tester. Am I being too cautious?
No need to be wary of a tester (sometimes retailers will exclude a cap, though they’ll spell it out if that’s the case). Sometimes it also says “tester” on the label, but the juice is fine.
My only objection to testers is aesthetic (not having a cap.) If that doesn’t bother you, go for it. It really is a great price.
I have never had any problems with testers from Fragrancenet. I do not mind the lack of the cap as long as the juice is fine. Go for it if you really like it.
I got a tester from them, and the bottle and juice were fine. The only thing different was it came in a tester box.
Good morning Y’all….
Yet another rainy gray Wednesday….today I just wasn’t having it! So I’m fighting back in Demeter Sex on the Beach. Fruity/summer/beachy/hot weather fun scent. So there! Neener neener neener! 🙂
SMELLY IMPULSE BUY: Luckyscent has a limited edition scent created for the 2018 Oscars, called “And the World is Yours”. $30 for 10ml, but it sounded soooooo good that I decided to go for it….Here’s the link below if you’re interested….Can’t wait to see if my blind buy impulsiveness pays off!
https://www.luckyscent.com/product/56716/and-the-world-is-yours-by-a-lab-on-fire
Perfumer is Dominique Ropion, one of the best noses ever! 🙂
Forgot….here’s the Instagram photo and ad copy to go with….
https://www.instagram.com/p/BftfjBll3G9/?taken-by=luckyscent
Oh man, those SHOES.
I saw that on Instagram too! Do report back.
That’s interesting — I can’t wait for your report!
I ordered it too! $30 isn’t too bad for a gamble.
Wearing Violaceum today, but Robin’s inspired me to dig up my sample of Sa Majeste for tomorrow.
How’s your dog?
SotM = Iris Silver Mist, just a few dabs from a sample
After ISM quiets down I will move to Hiris (blue bottle) for the afternoon, then Après L’Ondée for this evening (also wore it last night).
Thank you to Undina for the suggestion, it has been an enjoyable month of irises.
A triple play! Nice!
whoo-hoo-hoo, triple thanks! A month of iris scents was fun. Now I’m hankering for a great big cloud of Eau des Merveilles.
That lineup is pure Spring, scent-wise and visually. Enjoy!
thanks, kpaint! I like to think of those three scents as iris in strong, medium and soft formulations. 😀
A perfumista after my own heart. ALL the irises!
Raisin’ the roof for iris all month. 😀
Pink Day! Who knew? I love pink, it was my trademark color in the ‘80’s.
SotD is SL Feminite Du Bois. The juice is a beautiful color, but I guess really more of a dusty pale lavender.
Yesterday my daughter bought a pair of Mom Jeans (seriously) at American Eagle. Apparently this is a thing now????? That old SNL skit was enough to make me never want to own anything that could be construed as “mom jeans.” Lol.
high waisted jeans are back??? Amen!!! I hated when the trend was low waisted as I am only 93lbs and all the small sized jeans were low waisted. I have sensory issues and it would drive me crazy!!!!!!
Yes! And they come in size zero (and 00) CM8!
Ask me how I know.????
because you are as tiny as me??? 😉
Or madtownteen is a 00???
btw, I read yesterday you are from Wisconsin? in the early 80s I studied with Milwaukee Ballet Company and was in your state for the entire summer! sadly did not make it out of Milwaukee but wish I had…I am sure Wisconsin is a gorgeous state 🙂
madtownteen is a peanut, probably 95 lbs soaking wet. She started with a 2 but I had to go back out and grab her a 0. I am taller (5-9) and what some would probably consider thin (125) but on my frame it feels just right.
What part of Milwaukee were you in?! We lived in a north shore suburb for many years and moved here 12 years ago. Wisconsin is gorgeous, although I’m biased. I grew up in the northern part of the state which is heavily wooded with many, many lakes. Chicagoans flock there in the summer.
All of the ballet dancers stayed at the Y which I later found out was the seedier part of town. Honestly it was so long ago I don’t even remember the exact location! In my mind Wisconsin IS indeed gorgeous and I could kick myself for not having ventured off the beaten path when I was there.
I am eight inches shorter than you so you are as slim as I am! I have been this way my whole life…the only time I was “fat” was through three pregnancies and I had rather large babies- 7.5 lbs, 8 lbs and the last one was 9.5 lbs. After pregnancy I bounced back due to a super high metabolism.
I just went to research and apparently there were several Ys built in Milwaukee in the late 90s and early 2000s…wonder if the one we stayed at was torn down…it was old without air conditioning and we used to sleep with the windows open…depending on how the wind blew we either got whiffs from the chocolate factory or whiffs from the meat processing factory that were both nearby….the new Ys have gorgeous pools and much better amenities 🙂
I have a feeling you stayed at the one on North Avenue which would have indeed been in a not-so-safe part of town and proximal to the chocolate factory- where Jeffrey Dahmer worked!
What!!!!! jeffrey Dahmer worked in that chocolate factory???? We used to take a bus that crossed over a river that passed by that factory in order to get to the Milwaukee Ballet Co. headquarters/school. And now that I think about it the horrific meat odors might have been coming from a tannery….I recollect that there were a lot of factories in the area.
Yes, he did. Disgusting, I know. I don’t think the factory is there anymore but when we lived there leaving or coming into downtown from the west, we would always get a huge aroma of chocolate and it made me sick to my stomach every time just knowing he had worked there.
Wow, that’s hard to believe!
I know! I don’t know whether to be offended…or amused.
You smell wonderful!
Also, I’m a big fan of the current high-waisted jean trend! I just bought a pair and I am in love. I think they flatter a wider range of body types, and they give some shape to my boyish, no-curves figure. I was a teenager when super-low-rise jeans were all the rage and it was awful. So, so many buttcracks…
“so, so many buttcracks”…..oh lordie, holyneroli, THANK YOU FOR THAT GREAT LAUGH !!!
Butt cracks, tramp stamps and thong labels, oh my!
‘so many buttcracks’
LOL ????????????
A recent trend I dont get, especially with freezing cold of this week, are low sneakers, low ankle socks, and pants that are a bit too short. I saw lots of young folks today walking around with bare ankles ???????????? this while the ponds are almost frozen and ready for ice skating.????
So it’s not just me who thinks this is the most ridiculous trend I’ve seen in years. Here in Toronto where it’s been pretty damn cold for the past two months, you see them walking around with a $1,000+ sub-zero goose down parka, a hat, one of those monstrous blanket scarves, and a pair of blindingly white sneakers with two to three inches of exposed ankle. In the snow. Oh yeah… and no gloves so they can text. Ever heard of frostbite?
Does anyone else remember calling the super-low-rise + thong thing a “whale tail”? So glad that’s no more.
Yep. I haven’t missed seeing that one bit.
Tell me more about these jeans?!
Ha! Here you go:
https://www.ae.com/women-jeans-mom-jean-light-vintage/web/s-prod/0436_1344_987?cm=sUS-cUSD&catId=cat7010084&cid=AE_PLA_3370156&ip=off&pup_e=1&pup_ptid=163313565682&pup_kw=&pup_c=pla&pup_cid=16964&pup_id=0027571785&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzMLGi5HJ2QIVzLrACh1Uxge7EAQYASABEgLUPvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Um… that might be me in 1991.
Hehe, it could be you again lillyjo! In stores now, and shorts too!
That would NOT flatter me >.<
Me neither.
OMG, I had a pair of jeans that were similar in style back in college.
They actually have updated the fit a little bit. They’re shorter, and the thigh area is cut narrower. Mom jeans 1.0 were baggy in the thigh area and tapered at the knee down to the ankle. Don’t ask me how I know this. ????
And then just for fun:
https://youtu.be/2aVxNH6iN9I
OMG!
Lol. You’re welcome.????
Haha! That’s how the kids are dressing in my neighborhood these days. I actually like high wasted jeans. They are much more comfortable on me and fit my shape better. I like the ones your daughter got and might have to check those out myself!
They had shorts too!!
Ah, the 80’s. I wore out many many pairs of acid wash mom jeans and high-waisted chinos, but ugh, never again.
I wore a lot of pink then too. A favorite combo was pink/blue plaid bermuda shorts, pink d-ring belt, pink oxford shirt, pink bow tie, pink ankle socks and black Bass penny loafers. Yikes.
ha!!! I remember wearing lots of neon…even had very long neon colored fingernails and neon socks….
I think I was in 10th grade, the first day of school half the students wore neon. It looked like a day-glo nightmare. Another year it was Prince purple and lace everywhere on the first day. Good times.
Good times is right…although my kids have looked at photos of me from back then and they laugh hysterically 🙂
I’m having a 70’s flashback. I remember wearing pink/purple/green plaid bell bottoms with cuffs on the first day of school. Oh, and a pleather David Cassidy purse. Sixth grade, methinks? I was stylin’.
My favorite pair of bell bottoms had red and blue vertical stripes with white stars. I think I was in 2nd grade, and didn’t know any better, LOL.
Hey, you were stylin’, too!
????????????
😀
Ditto to all this! Bass penny loafers! I had almost forgot about those. I insisted on needing a pair the fall I started college and I wore them all over campus with pennies tucked into them.
I put pennies in my loafers too. So fun, but goodness those shoes had hard soles. 😛
Bass penny loafers! I totally forgot!
Ha yes that mom jeans SNL skit. I remembered another SNL skit about the back tattoos. One lady had a “pretty lady” tattoo, and the aging process would make the tattoo read “pretty sad”. Or something to that effect. ????
Classic, isn’t it?????
Totally a thing. My teen had to borrow a pair of my jeans last week and she was appalled by how low-waisted they were (of course mine are several years old). It all comes back around, eh?
Oh now THAT is really funny!!!
It does! I will be on the lookout for shoulder pads next.
I’m finishing Februiris by wearing Prada Infusion d’Homme. -16°C this morning, now it’s -6°C but bit windy so feels like it’s colder.
Did you enjoy your Februiris? I wore Arz el Rab to bed every night…my bottle is just about done 🙂
I did! It was fun. I think I will post my final thoughts on the blog.
Whoa, that’s quite a commitment to Arz el Rab. I’m trying to score a sample of Peng Lai. I’m really into that bottle!
I hope you get that sample soon and write a post 🙂
Arz el Rab was easy to wear…it is a perfect sleep scent.
Great choice. ????????
Thanks
Oh how marvelous! If you have a chance, please do tell us how Infusion d’Homme compares to other Prada irises?
Infusion d’Homme was one of the first reviews I ever wrote actually
Wow, a trip back in time! Thank you for the review. I’m now even more intrigued by Infusion d’Homme.
I wish I was wearing what you’re wearing Robin. I’m finally trying my sample of L’Orpheline. Meh
ha! I opened a sample of L’Orpheline, sniffed, and put the lid back on. Next!
It smells more like a single aromachemical than a full perfume!
It’s another of the modern Serges that I “don’t get”.
HumpDay!
1) Am in Prada Infusion D’Iris. It’s kinda perfect for today, with the rain and gray but with daffodils blooming up.
2) Scored like 5 pairs of Supergas at Anthropologie for $100- clearance sale! All in my size (40) and all perfect for the upcoming spring and summer. Will traveling quite a bit, and these sneakers are perfect for walking about in.
3) I made a number of sketches for the Matchbox Backyard project, and they all seem to look like it’s doable within budget. I am so excited to picking out fencing!
Infusion d’Iris is perfect. You smell great.
Thank you! Am so glad you guys turned me on to this.
Anthro has been going nuts with their sales lately. Lots of good deals to be had!
Wearing Aedes de Venustas from the splitmeet today. This one is a definite scrubber for me. I love all the notes listed (tomato leaf, rhubarb, etc.) but it turns into bitter lemongrass on my skin.
Anyone want 10mL with just a few sprays gone? Perhaps someone who missed the split?
I did some blind buys at the split meet as well, so far my SOTD and the one from yesterday are all hits with me. Sorry that one didn’t work on you..I love lemongrass in my food dishes not on my skin
I’m not sure how I feel about that one yet. It actually smells like weed to me initially, which makes me a little uncomfortable as a personal scent. My husband said that real tomato leaf smells like that to him.
Interesting–real tomato leaf just gives me a real tomato leaf smell. It is a thing unto itself and does not remind me of weed or anything else.
Oh… that’s too bad. I like those notes a lot too but I wasn’t impressed with the scent when I tried it years ago.
I thought about getting in on that split, but hesitated a bit too long. Do you get any cumin in it? I love the notes, but have been traumatized by too much cumin in the past.
I don’t get cumin but there is a bitterness to it early on- a marijuana kind of bitter. It then morphs on me into what smells like that floral accord Duchaufour uses in Ostara and some other perfumes. It’s not really bitter at that stage to me anymore. The base has a bit of vanillic sweetness. I find it very complex and different for sure.
Sounds interesting. I might just angle for a bit of this in the swap meet next month. Thank you for the mini review! ????
I did not get any cumin at all. I can live with some cumin. This was definitely bitter lemongrass and then “marine” notes.
Did someone e-mail you about this already? I don’t even remember seeing this at the split! Would you mind e-mailing me at ko bhatta at jee mayle dawt cawm about this? Thanks!
Hi Koyel, I will e-mail you about it today.
Wearing Shalimar before my shower. I just texted a friend saying that we can’t get together too late and he can’t stay too late since I do have to be at work at 5am tomorrow. I think that I will be wearing Feminite du Bois after my shower.
We will be twins!
Diptyque Tempo
Oh my word, this stuff is fantastic! Patchouli, tea, citrus. I predict Diptyque’s got a big hit with this one. Tomorrow is the official release date for Tempo. If you are a tea lover, you must try this one.
A wonderful Nordy sa gave me her personal sample last night as the store did not have a tester yet. I’m always thrilled to find a SA who loves talking perfume! She’s a keeper, that’s for sure.
I just smelled that one, too, and liked it. I thought it was a cross between SL Borneo and Coromandel. I got strong chocolate in it. Fleur de Peau, I was meh about. Thought it would be the other way around.
That sounds too good to pass up!
Thank you — I was tempted there for a minute, but “between SL Borneo and Coromandel” is not my patch of real estate 🙂
This sounds lovely, can’t wait to have a sniff!
I need to try this again as I wasn’t enamored of either new scent.
Speaking of Diptyque, I wonder if they’re doing their annual sample sale in NYC. Anyone hear about this?
Egads, my wallet is very happy I don’t live in NYC. ????
I don’t know! I usually rely on you for that PSA????
Did you try Tempo on skin? I preferred it on skin than on paper.
I tied try it but not on skin.
The sale is usually in Feb/March. I’ll have to see what I can see!
Oooh la la. Wonder if Sunny Day is around to see this review? 😉
Eeek, now a lemming. I have to get to the Barneys SA stat!
I received a nice little sample of Vitriol d’Oiellet (I think I butchered the spelling of that) from a generous NSTer and I’m trying it out today to go with my Pink Shirt Day outfit. I couldn’t smell it very soon after applying but one of the teachers just came in and said “I think that is my absolutely favourite scent on you, and the library smells beautiful!”
Sounds like your library has an official SOTD!
I’m still smelling last night’s Penhaligon’s Night Scented Stock from the anthology range update of the original by Betrand Duchaufour. It’s not especially spicy or loud but does for stocks what his Boronia does for boronia, almost as if the flowers are veiled with dust.
In the last lines of Kate Chopin’s The Awakening Edna recalls the smell of pinks.
I will switch to A la Nuit after my morning walk.
Rabbit rabbit rabbit here.
Haven’t ever smelled stocks, gotta see if they’re in any gardening stores here.
They are a bit like a softer carnation – or maybe carnation/wall flower. Quite heady and beautiful, with a hint of spice
Wow, definitely sold on the idea!
SOTD BoE. I slept like the dead last night and it was WONDERFUL! ????
Glad to hear you rested. How is T-Rex doing today?
Up to her usual shenanigans! Thanks for asking????
Go, T-Rex! 😀
So glad she back to her routine!
Yay, T-Rex! So happy your pupper is doing better
Yay for both of you!
Yesss, good news ????
So glad she back to her routine!
Good for you!
I’m starting to sleep better now that this herniated disk is healing. So grateful.
Oh, goodness, that sounds miserable. I didn’t know. I hope you continue to mend!
Ouch! So sorry about your back!
Oh! So sorry. Hope it heals quickly.
Awww… thanks, friends. Yeah, first time having something like this and it’s been miserable. I have to do all these stretches!
It’s really opened my eyes to how I sit, stand, etc. I’m glad to have such a good PT.
So glad it’s healing! Good luck with PT & stretches!
Yikes! “Herniated disk” sounds horrible.
Yikes! It sounds painful!
I’m sorry I didn’t get to send healing vibes to T-Rex yesterday, but I’m so glad to hear that she’s feeling better and that you had a chance to rest.
Deva, I’m glad to hear that both T-Rex and you are feeling better today.
Glad you were able to rest. I hope T-Rex fully recovered!
I’m wearing one of my favorite comfort scents, Safran Troublant.
The only SL I have a decant of is Chergui. I’d like to add more to my collection but I still haven’t really spent time with many of these and when I do go to the store to try them I’ve yet to find any loves.
I’m so glad we are over Feb.! The days are already getting longer and if we keep up these mild temps we very well might be able to believe the worst is behind us.
We’re supposed to get heavy rains tomorrow night and almost a N’oreaster on Friday.
I love Safran Troublant!
I’m continuing my project of wearing bottles by the year I purchased them. Still in 2015 – yesterday was Musc 25 and today is Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I love how I smell.
Up to 2015 already, good for you!
Sotd is Queen of the night, from my first splitmeet ever!
This sweet, lush, slightly tropical foral is the perfect antidote for the freezing cold!!!
I also tried Nomade today. The bottle is so cute irl! (I love Chloe clothing and bags, by the way, wish I could afford those haha)
The fragrance is a fruity floral. The fruit (plum and peach) is dominant on my skin, and two hours in I get more and more of a generic clean musk note, drowing the nice floral notes. Meh. I wish they stopped using this white (?) musk.
I think I need to try it again in warmer weather, but my guess is this is not going to work for me…ever. Too bad…bottle is lovely.
Btw I just read a review of Nomade, and I cant believe she just described it as being ‘almost masculine’, adventurous, not something she’d wear to work, and as a scent you wear when you need ‘a bit more oomph’.
Oops, maybe I need to reconsider my ‘safe for work’ and my ‘more oomph’ choices? ????
It was also my first splitmeet and I got a decant of Queen of the night! So yours has arrived already, lucky you! Can’t wait to try it as its freezing cold here in Barcelona too.
Yes, great bottle on this one. Didn’t much like the scent, however.
Most current Chloe scents dont work for me. Though I must say I havent tried them all. But I suspect none of them share DNA with the Chloe i used to wear in the 90s: Narcisse, a spicy flower bomb with huge sillage. My then bfriend described it as ‘very sexy’. ????
I rather like the L’Eau de Chloe, which is a light lemon, rose, and patchouli scent to me. Good for warm & humid weather.
I didn’t love Nomade. Too sweet for me. I did smell the “oakmoss” in the far drydown after washing my hands. I love the bottle. I wonder if it’s suposed to be a hobo bag?
Yeah its quite sweet, almost candy-like. I also get a hint of ‘oakmoss’, but this whole ‘semi-chypre’ experience only makes me long for the real deal that is Mitsouko. ????
I think the bottle is inspired by Chloe bags? Lots of them have a similar shape, like the Nile and Drew model.
I tested Roja Dove Karenina last night, and the carnation is still around this morning, so thats the SOTD so far.
While carnation seems to be the longest lasting note, it blends in at the beginning with violet and the symphonic, vintage-like richness one expects from Roja.
To me it’s not old-fashioned; more like the young woman who adds vintage clothes to her wardrobe because she’s a bit of a romantic and they suit her.
I couldn’t find the kind of image I wanted to illustrate this perfume — but how amazing are these 19th century photos of traditional Russian costumes?
http://local-moda.blogspot.com/2012/11/russian-beauties-of-19th-century-in.html
That’s a lot of fabric! The hats are amazing.
It’s a cold climate — they needed layers. 🙂
Those costumes are incredible!, I love the heavy silk embroidered floral coats with rich fur trims especially!
The perfume sounds amazing, Anna Karenina is one of my very favourite novels, and I love carnation/cloves in perfume.
It was decades ago, but I remember being captivated by the novel.
Oh wow, those photo’s and costumes are great!
I love those fabrics and patterns. Part of me wishes i could see the colours, but monochromes are very charming as well.
I was so amazed by the designs that I hadn’t even thought about the colors!!! There must be photos of the costumes in museums…
Ooh, another carnation to try!
Oh good! Another sample I can the BG SA to acquire for me!
Wearing Violette Sacree from the lovely Oakland Fresca’s split. I like it!
Thank heavens it’s a.) the end of Feb, and b.) Hump Day. Happy to have March and the end of the week in sight! Be well, all.
Seems like February went by quickly this year. Some years, it drags on and on.
Wearing Baiser de Russie today from the Splitmeet.
Quite nice but low sillage imo.
And a veritable bargain at $2.24 per ml vs. the Matiere line at $3.47. 😉
Agree with the low sillage. And after 3 hours it completely dissapeared.
Wearing Diptyque Rose de Mai and a spritz of Philosykos EDT.
Also trying out a tiny spritz of Escentric Molecule Molecule 2 and Escentric 2 one on each hand. I wanted to compare them to Another 13, since the main note is ambroxan. I have found that I like neither of the EMs as much as the Le Labo, I think the ambrette seed really cozies Another 13 up.
It is warm and muggy here today, and my hand landed on Ineke Idylwild, from the splitmeet last fall. I thought about participating in the CP, but ya gotta go with what calls!
Fracas today for the snow, it really sings in the cold.
I have 3 serge’s, all lovely for cold weather.
I sold lots of clothes on eBay so that I could buy an apc blouse I saw and loved last month, it’s a cross between cowgirl and victoriana, a lovely light weight Japanese denim, with a high frilled neck, and big frills on the front and back, the collar looks so nice peeping out of warm jumper’s, and I’m looking forward to wearing it on its own in the spring too.
Out with the old, in with the new!
Congrats on the new blouse! ???? I have been oogling the APC collection as well. They do frills and volants the right way (not too dramatic, very wearable). Really like this brand, though I have not bought anything from it…yet. ????
Twins! I was inspired by the smidge of cumin in SL’s Fleurs d’Oranger to layer Fracas and Bigarade Concentree. Suffice to say that Fracas beat out BC by a landslide!
Today is the perfect weather day, but apparently a wintery mix and possibly 8 inches of snow will be here tomorrow. My sotd called my name LOUD today. Vintage Cabochard, which I don’t wear nearly enough. It’s simply gorgeous. Will have to come back to read comments. Oh, Jalapeno, I will email after work tonight. Hope everyone has a great day!
We are getting snow on Friday…I am so DONE with this winter 🙁
When a perfume calls you like that, you HAVE to wear it!
Today I was going to wear my new Rrose Selavy (thanks Nancyleandros!) from the split meet, but I was in a hurry this morning and the SJP Stash was sitting on a shelf in my closet when I got dressed – so Stash it is. I’m always a little bit surprised about how much I like this one.
Enjoy!????
MKK on this overcast, drizzly morning. Errands today and another ski day tomorrow.
One day I will try this one!
Hiris for the last day of the Month of Irises project. It is a beautiful perfume though I wouldn’t say that it would be my first choice for iris perfume – if I had to choose one… or even 5. But still, I enjoy wearing it today.
After a month of irises I would be curious to hear what your top 5 would be. I’ve sampled a few, but only have a bottle of no 19 edp.
I plan to do a round-up statistics post on the project that will include my Top 5 (it’s not that I’m trying to get you to read my post – though I wouldn’t mind you doing that 🙂 – but with the daily updates that I did for the project I haven’t had time yet to think about it).
Okay! I will check that out!
No. 19 EDP ????????????
Got a compliment on a perfume I am wearing today! Wearing Calligraphy Rose, from a generous swap meet last year.
You do smell beautiful today! Yay for compliments????
My brain is behind today, but I am waiting for it to catch up in Hinoki plus a bit of Sortilege homemade body oil.
QUESTION: does anyone know of an online source for Francis Kurkdjian Ciel De Gum? I haven’t bought a FB in ages, and am in perpetual sticker shock about it, but at the same time worry that this one might disappear. I can order it from the label itself, but am wondering if anyone here has gotten even a slight deal elsewhere? I can ship to US or Canada…
Osswald (NY site) has it…may be a bit less $ via the Kurkdjian site in France, which ships internationally.
I think you will get a better deal if you order directly from the MFK site…unless an online retailer has some sort of % off sale going on.
Osswald is out of stock and with the conversion rate it would be cheaper via the MFK site….as long as shipping is free!
Ah I suspected there was no magical discounted option!
Mure et Musc from the bottom of a bin today. A fruity little thing.
My SOTD is Masque Milano’s L’Attesa…such a beautiful iris scent.
I’m a recent convert to that one…it is beautiful.
It is an amazing iris. You smell great!
Eeek, I did not wear this during Month of Irises! You smell wonderful.
I am unscented today, and I feel nearly naked. (I know, oversharing. . .)
Are you sure it’s not a dream? You know, the one, in which you suddenly find yourself nak… unscented in the middle of a crowd, and everybody’s sniffing at you… 😉
Lol!☺
Haha! Terrifying!????
Lol! Love it!
In Rose Pivoine from Parfums de Nicolai, which is, I suppose, a pink fragrance. Testing it because I’m trying to figure out if the trio set will work for me. Rose Pivoine is pretty, but I find most rose scents kind of “narrow” – not fluffy, but dense and to a point instead. Rose Royale much more so – deep and dark and green but also narrow and loud. Yikes!
Saving my only SL for Friday.
Happy Wednesday!
Parfum d’Empire Equistrius. One last iris before I move on to other spring notes at least while it’s still warm. The bulbs are starting to come up, which of course means another freeze to burn them out.
SOTD: No. 19 EdT because you can’t go wrong with No. 19.
True
Enjoying a second consecutive day of sun. ???? I am also envying my cats’ ability to sleep in the windowsills and take full advantage of the sunlight. ????
SOTD = Byredo Seven Veils, from the sample stash. I, um, probably over-applied this one. MISTAKE!!! It went full out auto shop on me, right down to the smell of used motor oil, hydraulic fluid, and metal shavings. I couldn’t stand that and ran for the rubbing alcohol. I will re-test this with a much more sensible amount of perfume, since I kind of liked what was left after the sponge bath.
Yikes! Or think about what you can layer with it?
I really do think this was a case of applying Too Darn Much, since the perfume smelled rather nice in the sample vial. So I’ll give it another shot and see what happens.
I feel like I am coming down with the crud. SOTD is SL Bois de Violette.
Oh, what a drag! Sorry to hear that the dreaded crud may be in your future. ????
Oh no! I hope you escape it unscathed!
Blurgh ???? I hope it’s nothing. I felt like that the other day but think it may have been allergies since it just passed. You did smell cheerful and lovely today, though!
You smell great in your Violette! I love that one.
Hope you are feeling better quickly.
So I didn’t think about how much 250’ of parafilm actually is when I ordered it and would love to share some of this ridiculous bounty! Shoot me an email at amy dot kimm at the mail of g’s if you’ve ever wondered about this stuff.
Thank you, but I’m good….ordered 260” of 1/2 inch thick! So I have to cut it in half ????
Very kind offer tho! Hope someone takes you up on it, shame to let it sit when it can be sealing previous contents!
I’ve considered getting some Parafilm on Amazon, but haven’t for the 250-foot reason that you have mentioned.
…want some? I can pop a couple feet into an envelope and send it your way.
LOL. I just ordered since Imwas running low. Now you need to get more samples and decants so you can use your parafilm bounty to seal them against evaporation ????????????
It’s hugely satisfying to no longer smell things evaporating into thin air!
SOTD = DSH Scent of Hope
I am going to make up a T-shirt that says I survived Month of Irises with a picture of a fangy Rusty.
Scent of Hope is not for the faint of heart. It is the Yin to the Yang of ISM. Scent of Hope is aldehylic peachy and vegetal earthy va. carrotty.
Survey of the day – Episode 1:
A sign above a tray of food in the cafeteria – “Buffalo Meatloaf”. Is it:
a. meatloaf made with ground buffalo meat?
b. regular meatloaf with buffalo sauce / dressing?
c. whatever it is, I don’t care and I don’t want to eat it?
… the answer is – I will tell you tomorrow
that should be vs. carrotty
I only tested Scent of Hope but I did think it was very pretty. You must smell lovely today.
Yikes to Buffalo meatloaf!
I really like it and it was nice that she donated x amount from every sale to charity!
Option “B” on your cafeteria food sounds rather scary to me!
Let’s just say I was a little suspicious when the tray looked untouched and I was very late getting there today (1:30). The cafeteria manager happened to be standing nearby and I asked her. Would you believe she had to call the chef to ask him?!? I ended up getting the pork loin which was recognizable as such and was very good!
Sounds like you avoided a big “NOPE!” at lunch today.
I’m guessing A. I’ve had buffalo/bison burgers before. Less fat which also means not as good, lol. A little game-y. Maybe some buffalo sauce would’ve improved things.
The meatloaf slices looked dry. The cafeteria manager was going to comp me a whole slice and I said no and thanked her.
I was just looking at DSH irises today, are you familiar with the other ones? L’eau and one that is a limited edition? They are on sale, and thought about blind buying. (I know, bad idea)
I’m not familiar with her iris portfolio except for Scent of Hope. I have not been to her website in ages because I get cross-eyed whenever I visit.
Love the shirt idea! That’s awesome.
On this final day of February I’m wearing glorious Iris Silver Mist.
