Happy Friday, and Gong Xi Fa Cai! Our community project for today: we're celebrating the Lunar New Year...wear an auspicious fragrance to ring in the Year of the (Earth) Dog.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
My tenuous link to the holiday: Madonna (yes, that Madonna), is an Earth Dog (she was born in 1958, the last Earth Dog year.) Before Madonna did her own fragrance, she wore Robert Piguet Fracas. I know where my Fracas is, which is more than I can say for my sample of Truth or Dare, if I even still have it. So, Fracas it is.
Reminder: 2/23 will be Library Friday...honor National Library Month with any sort of fragrance association you can think of.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Pure Gold One Kilogram Lunar Lotus Coin - Year of the Dog from the Royal Canadian Mint is $75,000 CAD.
Happy New Year! Xin nian kuai le!
Today I did some layering again: ELDO You or someone like you and Guerlain AA Herba Fresca. Both are green and herbal, plus ELDO has some rose, so I hope it is a good combo for the Earth Dog. 🙂
That sounds like a good mix, I should try that!
Happy Lunar New Year!
Wearing CdG Kyoto. Relaxing, meditative, peaceful and beautiful! Exactly what I need to have a good year. Drinking green tea and some chinese pastries brought by a co-worker.
Have a great Friday everyone!
Great scent for the project. Very serene and hope that your year brings some serenity!
Looking forward to it!
Perfect!
🙂
That is a great scent! It’s exactly all that you described, you smell great!
Thank you!
Green tea and CdG Kyoto sound like a fantastic combo!
Twins! (Although technically it is Saturday here…)
Happy New Year!
Wearing Nahema Extrait, which has little to do with dogs (though the puppy didn’t mind being belly rubbed with my Nahema-ladden wrist next to his nose) but seems like a good choice. Opulent and feminine but also vibrant and happy, is just how I would like to spend the new year 🙂
If I could link Fracas to dogs, I’m sure you could find a way to link Nahema!
“Opulent” is a great description of Nahema.
I was going to wear Cartier’s Le Baiser du Dragon for its Chinoiserie but that seem kind of stereotyped, so, figuring that gold was a particularly auspicious colour in China, I went for the goldest thing I own: vintage Montana Parfum d’Elle, a golden liquid in a chrome-yellow box with an effulgently golden smell — bright and gingery up top, an armload of yellow flowers underneath, and one of the most beautiful bases any scent ever had. (I have sent decants to a few people saying, “Even if you don’t like the fragrance itself, you HAVE TO smell the drydown.”)
Never smelled this one. But am a huge fan of the original Montana. That stuff was, and still is, nuclear. ????
Wow, sounds like how I describe Chamade. This is going on my watch list!
Happy Friday and Happy Lunar New Year.
I chose Anima Vinci’s Wood of Life because it is said to help in calming and illuminating the mind, enhancing sensuality and awakening self love. Not bad goals for the Year.
I told Reilly (my cat) it was the Year of the (Earth) Dog and she went in the Big Pink Fish and refuses to come out.
Have a calm and illuminating weekend!!
Ha, I might need a Big Pink Fish to hide in!
Best $15.00 investment. At least 20 of her 22 napping hours are spent in Jaws Claude Van Damme.
Yep, total cat Dad.
I think I need to check this out.
I’m wearing Hermés Veriver Tonka in celebration. (Really, it was in my work bag and I forgot to apply anything this morning before I left).
Happy Year of the Doggo????
you smell lovely
House Cousins!
Year of the dog is a good one for you I hope!
Happy Friday!
I just bought some parafilm and want to know the best practices for using it please. I think I should be wrapping it around where the spray atomizer and bottle meet after they atomizer has already been screwed in vs. using it around the glass threads of the bottle before I screw in the atomizer as you can w/ plumber’s tape. Please weigh as you see fit to school me. 😉 People seem to like parafilm based on my googling.
The first purchases of 2018 have happened! I bought an older bottle of Note Vanille on Ebay…not cheaper than current bottle but hopefully as strong and fragrant as the sample shared w/ me from a lovely NSTer.
And I finally caved on the Maison de la Vanille sampler from Luckyscent which has been in my cart forever…mostly b/c kpaint asked if I had ever tried this house and I figured the Gods were talking through her and it must be the sign to buy it! 🙂 Ye clever Gods!
Ooh, hadn’t thought of using parafilm but I bet it works well! The only times I’ve seen it fail were cases of direct contact with really strong organic solvents. It’s not intended to be used like plumber’s tape, but it still might work – have you tried testing it w/ a little sprayer filled with rubbing alcohol?
I will stick to putting it on the outside methinks…thanks!
I love parafilm, but I would think it would have too much “grab” to work well wrapped around the threads. It’s also thicker than plumber’s tape (which is intended for threads) and you might not be able to fit the sprayer over it. Worth a try though! (With an inexpensive bottle, just in case.)
Yes, it appears the outside is the way to go…thanks!
I wrap it where the cap and the bottle meet, after the sprayer is screwed in and the cap is put in place. Also work wells with vials.
This is what I do too. Plumber’s tape around the threads, then parafilm around the outside of the atomizer where the cap meets the vial.
Thanks…I am excited to try it. 🙂
I’m intrigued by this one.
Got any idea how to tell the newer version from the older one?
I think several older Micallefs feature this same design as shown on Fragrantica…
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/M-Micallef/Note-Vanillee-4334.html
To my knowledge, NV came out in 2007 then was discontinued and brought back. Luckyscent has the current bottle design.
It is the first Micallef I’ve sniffed…makes me want to try Note Ambree and Note Poudree too.
Agreeing with the posters who are saying to wrap the outside of your sample and decant vials.
Yes, outside is the winner…thanks!
For today’s theme I chose to wear the very last dregs of my little decant of De Profundis. I’m not sure exactly why this feels “auspicious” – maybe because De Profundis evokes springtime, maybe because finishing something makes room for the new … dunno. All I know for sure is that I need more now! 🙂
Well said! I love that one.
Congrats on finishing a decant!
Happy lunar new year! Last final of the semester so going with no fragrance yet (no distractions!), but planning to wear something celebratory to dinner – will report back!
Good luck on the final today!!!!!
Good luck!
Hope that your final went well!
Thank you all for the borrowed luck! Overall I think it went well!!!
Ended up going with Idyllwild as an outdoorsy(ish) accompaniment for the year of the dog. To be honest though, the family dog thinks I smell best after coming from anatomy lab…
Hello everybody! I am wearing SheWolf – I didn’t realize the Earth part, but actually it is appropriate since there is some earthy patchouli in here. Another nice musk from Smell Bent.
Twins! I’m getting a distinct powdered milk chocolate note from this one – must be the patchouli? It’s sweet and pleasant, though perhaps not as assertive as I’d expect a she-wolf to be. 🙂
Hi twin! I agree it’s got a kind of a hot cocoa quality. Vanilla is a listed note so I wonder if that’s part of it? There’s another one called Siberian She-Wolf that I now really want to try!
It’s fun seeing everyone’s choices today! Robin, I like your reasoning and how you ended up in Fracas – you smell great!
I went with Micallef Lucky Charm — the scent itself is a bit light for my taste but the bottle may be the prettiest ever!
https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/91psvVHgxaL._SL1500_.jpg
That is an auspicious bottle 🙂
I couldn’t come up with a rose scent that felt Year of the Dog-ish, so instead I’m in Portrait of a Lady. So lovely.
It’s still raining – yay! (I promise to stop talking about the weather now)
POAL is amazing. You smell great.
(I am saving mine for the next week – Library project.)
Oooh, I didn’t notice next week’s theme. I might have to cheat on the rose project a bit – I have several good ones for a Library week.
How did I not see that connection! Thanks for the idea!
You are welcome!
This is how I am going to interpret the theme – connections in the names of perfumes.
I went with a favorite rose, the cheap as chips Perles de Lalique. The lovely combo of patchouli and rose is quite earthy to me.
I recently got 15ml of this from scentbird – I love it too! Probably cost the same as getting a full bottle, but if I didn’t like it, I didn’t wanna have a ton of it around
I really like Perles. Have you tried Soir de Lune? It’s wonderful too.
Chanel Coromandel, the original EDT. I haven’t tried the new EDP, but hoping that I find it the same, otherwise I’ll have to scour eBay for an older bottle.
Great choice. I am a new fan of this scent.
Almost wore that today. You smell awesome!
I haven’t found a lot of difference between the old and the new, hopefully you won’t either. You smell great!
SOTD Idylle Love Blossom. Hoping love blossoms for all beings in Year of the Dog! ❤????⚘????And really I just wanted to wear a pretty today to offset the fact that I was in a rush and look like a mess.
You smell wonderful and I highly doubt that you look anything other than lovely!
Awww, thanks Petunia ???? That’s sweet, though someone told me I looked tired today so don’t think my ruse worked.
Sometimes “pretty” is the best reason for wearing a certain scent.
It is and this one fits that bill!
We received some surprise snow last night – not enough for a snow day off work, grumble grumble – but I went with something cozy, Ummagumma.
My SO has started referring to this as Hubbahubba ????.
I just realized that I can make a tenuous connection to today’s theme: Ummagumma is the title of an early album from Pink Floyd, who later released another album, Animals, that contains a track called “Dogs.” This mental gymnastics calls for another cup of tea.
Lol. ????. Great choice! Definitely HubbaHubba.
LOL!
I think when the kids are fully taking their nap I will play some Pink Floyd quietly..
Impressive! ????
Happy New Year and Happy Friday! I’m in a few drops of Miss Dior from a dabber bottle (thanks, eBay), and I smell pretty good!
Trying to stay positive, as my physical therapist thinks I could possibly have a muscle tear in my rotator cuff, from the fall I took last October. He recommended an MRI, and I might need surgery to reattach the muscle. Along with that comes sleeping in ye olde easy chair during the recovery period, and starting PT allll over again. I’m really not happy, but it is what it is, and I’ll get through it.
I hope y’all and your rotator cuffs have a great Friday! ????
Bummer! My DH had to sleep in a chair for weeks after he broke his ribs. Hope your shoulder heals quickly!
Poor guy! Weeks?!? I’m sure that was un-fun.
Oh, dear. I hope that’s not the case and hope you’re not in too much pain. Sending you good wishes though wish I could send you an intact rotator cuff ????
Thanks, Elisa P, I wish you could, too. They have everything in New York City, right? ????
Perfume is optimal, spare body parts, not so good.
oh oh…ahhhh! Do you have to have to have the surgery?
Not sure yet, depends on the MRI results. I hope to fast track it and have it next week. ????????
Good luck! I don’t know how long that one takes, but def ask if they can pipe in music or something else for you while you’re in there.
Oh no! I hope you do not need that surgery. Wishing you the best!
Thanks, pl67!
Oh no! Hoping for the best for you!
Thank you, madtowngirl! Me too.
I’m hoping you only have a strain and not a tear!
Oh, oh, I didn’t know having a strain was a thing! Yeah, I’ll hope for that instead of a tear! ????
Ooof. I hope the MRI reveals good news and you have a speedy recovery!
Oh no!!! I hope that your MRI shows that it’s a strain or sprain, and not a tear. What a drag!
+1 to Jalepeno’s comment above.
I had some issues there as well, the PT makes ALL the difference. Keeping good thoughts for you!!
I am wearing Comme des Garçons Dot in honour of my beautiful sweet puppy girl, whose name is Dot. :-). Happy new year!
???????? Hope you and Dot have a great weekend.
Nice! You have your own Lunar year symbol. 🙂
Getting a new puppy is the most perfect way to celebrate the year of the dog! Congratulations.
Oh, she’s not a new puppy, she’s an old puppy! She’s ten. But she is only 3kgs and in my heart she will always be a puppy. 🙂
So sweet! I hope you both have a wonderful and happy Lunar New Year.
Dot is a great name for a pup. I like the perfume but wish it had more osmanthus and less of a metallic edge. I haven’t found any osmanthus perfumes where I live so had hopes for Dot.
I agree, the perfume could have been more floral and less metallic, but I was so excited to have a perfume named after my sweetie (I have the Marc Jacobs one too) I bought it anyway. She is named Dot because she has 4 big black dots on her back, so the bottle design of the CdG was perfect too. 🙂
House cousins! I’m wearing C de G Red Carnation because red is an auspicious colour. And I read Red is Best by Cathy Stinson to the kindergarteners today.
Fun book! You could follow Red is Best with Blue vs. Yellow by Tom Sullivan. 😀
I’m so glad she had successful appointments this week! My puppygirl is almost 14, so I totally understand the concern.
Happy Lunar New Year!
My auspicious fragrance for today is Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. I’m trying to bring about sunnier skies through sheer force of will!
Sun’s out here- I’ll send some your way!????
I wholly support your efforts! ????
Shalimar shower gel
Myrrhe & Delires perfume
Happy Friday!
You smell good!
Happy Losar Happy Lunar New Year
A friend of mine is traveling to Hong Kong and offered to pick me up something, any beauty/perfume that is a must have?
Auspicious scent of the day Galop by Hermes
Sporting a Asian inspired dress with a Mandarin collar, and trying my hand at some calligraphy for my eyes with a nice wing..meeting the CEO for lunch a Korean spot to celebrate both Valentines and Losar/Lunar New Year
Enjoy your lunch!
TGIF! The sun is out!????
Does No. 19 EdP qualify as an auspicious scent? That’s my SotD.
I almost went for 31RC, I think Iris is a auspicious scent…
No.19 is always auspicious and good for any celebration, ocassion, situation, weather condition, etc……. It is a winner and you smell fantastic!
No. 19 is perfect no matter what day!
Woo Hoo! Next week is Library Friday?! So many possibilities. Hmm… which perfume smells like intellectual freedom?
I am celebrating Dog Friday with Narciso EDP. I’m a sweet-smelling, fluffy white Samoyed who just came back from the groomer. Woof!
fun
That is the perfect dog to match with Narciso!
Great mental picture to go with your SOTD!
FriYAY FriYAY FriYAY! I was born in the Year of the Dog, many dog years ago….Woof woof!
No perfume today….was fighting a headache earlier, so I didn’t want to poke the bear. I have a Scentbird of Stella in my bag if the mood hits. Not very auspicious, but it’s nice!
Speaking of Scentbird….Yesterday, I won a 6 month Scentbird subscription and some Drybar hair products from them! I entered their Valentine’s Instagram contest and got lucky. Enter those contests y’all! Somebody’s gotta win, and it might as well be YOU! Free Scentbird until Sept 2018 is AWESOMENESS! 🙂 Drybar is good stuff as well….
Congratulations!!! That’s so exciting ????
How cool! Hope you feel better and can wear perfume later.
Your New Year is already starting out well. Lucky dog!
How cool! Hope the headache stays away and you have a great fragrant weekend.
Wow, congrats!
I used ancient resins oil + Dries Van Noten to get all the elements in for auspicious results. And a cursory search yields that the word for the year is ACTION!
Nice combo!
it is one of my favourites, and includes incense and wood and thus sort of fire and earth? 😉
That does sound nice. Will have to try that. And that all caps ACTION is making me ANXIOUS!
hahaha the presentation was taken directly from the source 🙂
My year is going to be RELAX! With maybe a little lower case action 😉
Interesting combo, how are you liking it? I don’t think of DVN as incensey but it sounds like it could jive.
I have done it before, and each time love it more. The AR tempers the sweetness.
Happy Lunar New Year, all! In celebration, I ate a char siu bao for breakfast. Starting the day off right, eh? At least in my mouth, if not in my future prospects of diabetes.
My SOTD is MH Geranium Bourbon from the last swapmeet 🙂 This choice was partly driven by the fact that the GB box is red. I smelled pretty fabulous, but now I’m wearing a sweater and thick socks/lined boots at work, so I’m TOO HOT, and now the scent is choking me a bit. Sigh.
I love char sit bad! Yes very sweet but a treat for me.
Sorry it isn’t working for you right now, but that is a fabulous scent.
I used to keep a sweater and a short-sleeved shirt at work (plus a pair of flats) at work in case of wardrobe misjudgements/malfunctions.
Robin – I want that dog kilogram of gold! I wonder if it comes in 1 ounce version? I’ll have to look into that.
I love your auspicious scent connection ????… I am wearing PdN Juste un Rêve, inspired by Victoria’s post. Very tropical, very enjoyable…
Yes, there is a 26g sterling version for 102Canadian dollars! ????????
Actually – it’s more pure than sterling 99.99 pure
The coin is great but I know I would do something silly like accidentally drop it in a parking meter.
Good point, 50k saved
I do like that silver coin tho – I may get it for my brother who is moving, which means he won’t see his English bulldog anymore that he has joint custody of right now 🙁
LOL!
Happy Lunar New Year!
It is freakishly warm here, 65F, and raining, with petrichor gloriously wafting about, and I just got done with parent-teacher conferences with Taz’s teachers at the high school. (He’s doing well.) In any case, I chose scent for the event and not for the project: Henry Dunay Sabi, gorgeous (discontinued 🙁 ) green floral, with narcissus, tuberose and vetiver, my small decant courtesy of Haunani who used to comment here frequently. So beautiful.
Very odd weather, isn’t it? Glad the conference went well.
Our A/C came on today. At least it didn’t happen in January.
Thru a little research, I found that plum blossoms and daffodils are associated with the Chinese New Year. I had to dig around to find the only fragrance I have with plum blossom- La Pairie Midnight Rain. It’s awfully sweet, which is probably why it was stored away with old former loves. ???? In a perfect perfume world, I’d be wearing (and owning) Plum Japonis. It features plum blossom and is gorgeous!
*Japonais
Oh, the plum blossoms I should have guessed, but would never have guessed daffodils. Hmmm, could have worn something narcissus….
I still have a cold. It got worse, and I had to call in sick at work. So I am spending these days on the couch and in bed.
But Olympics offer some distraction.
Woohooo a golden medal for The Netherlands today, go Esmee! ????
A spray of Sycomore for a happy chinese new year!
Feel better. Terrible to be sick on the weekend.
Rest, rest and rest Jiji! I hope you feel better soon.
Rest as much as you can. Hope you recover quickly.
Take it easy and hope you feel better soon!
So sorry you are sick. But yay for Esmee! Hope you feel better soon.
Sorry to hear that you are sick and had to call out. But I’m glad to hear that you are home resting. Take care and feel better!
My dog is a tan and white shepherd mix, so I am wearing Absolue pour le Soir to match him, feeling honeyed and animalic.
Perfect!
Ooh, that sounds lovely!
Happy new year to everyone! I am lame and back in Santal 33, which I gushed about yesterday as being the perfect office scent. Well….either I’m going crazy or I sprayed on a different Le Labo the other day (Rose 31 maybe?) – but this morning, I feel trapped in a dense cloud of perfume. Even the admin here, who often gets to share my fragrance (“here – smell this!”) doesn’t like it today but praised it the other day. Where is the head scratch emoji when you need it?
Living vicariously through all of your lovely food descriptions while I munch on Costco trailmix.
Santal is deceptive but my personsl experience with ot is that it quietly expands and can take over a large room. Which os why I bought the candle because I loke ot as an ambient scent (even the unlit candle is potent!).
Okay, so I’m going with the connection between dogs and loyalty…so I’m thinking of a perfume that has stuck with me through thick and thin, good days and bad, is always there when I need it….and I don’t have one. So I’m wearing Daim Blond which is the next best thing.
I was guessing I’d see Gabrielle here!
Yes . I think Gabrielle woukd do well at obedience class…sit, stay, shake a paw.
Well, you do smell good, faithful friend or not. I have been relying on my faithful friends Rochas Byzance (1987) and Shiseido Feminité du Bois (1992) for years. Don’t wear them as often now that I have so many choices but it’s nice to know they’re there.
Happy Lunar New Year! I’m wearing Arielle Shoshana EdP, because it always makes me happy. It is also gloriously lively and I’m about to do lots of cooking for a house concert/reception tomorrow evening. Bringing those zingy vibes with me into the kitchen!
You smell great!
I’m not sure if I have a good grasp on this weeks project. Today, I chose No. 22. My reasoning is this: the first time I smelled it, decades ago. I was bound and determined to buy a Chanel. I fell in love with it. This was when I was not quite 20 years old. 22 smelled like a grown up, with a good career, and confidence. As much as I loved it, I felt totally unworthy of it. I ended up buying Coco, which I also love, and I felt more comfortable in. I never stopped thinking about 22, but by time I decided to go for it, it was gone. ( I had no idea it became a exclusif until I came to Nst). Anyway, a famously generous Nster sent me some one Christmas, and I literally burst into tears. I’m wearing it as an auspicious scent because I hope this is the year I become the lady that is deserving of this gorgeous perfume. I might go for the new EDP version, if anyone can tell me if it’s still as wonderful.
I think you did a great job interpreting the theme!
Great story!!! Happy new year to you!
Love your story! You smell terrific!
Love your story and your perfume!
Aww, great story! Hope your No.22 dreams come true this year!
Lovely story! And for what it’s worth, I think that both you and No. 22 are class acts.
Thanks everyone! I really hope we all have a great, or just plain good New Year!
My scent for the community project is Eau de Protection. Man’s best friend offers protection and we are in the year of the dog. Hopefully, my scent is a fitting tribute to honor these loyal and loving companions. This was a hard CP. Phew!
Happy weekend all!
You smell wonderful!
Thanks!
Your approach to the CM is very lovely and a beautiful tribute to our wonderful four legged companions. You smell great!
????
It was hard! Fun to see what everyone did with it though.
It was really interesting. I had nothing until Thursday. I didn’t think that I was going to participate.
That’s a good one (the theme) and you smell great, of course!
Well, you can take partial credit because I thought of the connection after our email exchange. Of course I affiliate EdP with you since you sent me the sample!
Partial credit claimed???? That one slipped my mind when I was thinking of rose-patchoulis.
I’m wearing No 19 EDT again today but this time vintage. I found my amazing smelling large bottle at Goodwill for $30 last year. I think that was quite auspicious. I’ve also come to realize that No 19 is a perfume that I feel most like myself when I wear. That’s a really great revelation to have.
On a side note I’m proud of myself for making more thoughtful perfume buying choices. I had two opportunities to purchase perfumes that in the past I thought I needed bottles of. I tried on both perfumes again and decided I don’t like them as much as I used to. I used to quickly snatch up any deal right away and sometimes regretted it later.
That’s really good deal on the No.19- and i agree, quite auspicious indeed! And it’s good to have that *one* scent that you feel truly suits you!
Yes, I know I never want to be without No 19. And it helps me with the age old dilemma “if the world is ending and you’re evacuating your home, what do you grab on your way out?” ????
Huge congrats on the perfume buying restraint. I go in phases; sometimes I can be very disciplined and then there are these waves that come over me where I’m in buy-everything mode. I’m not sure what causes which but I would like to figure it out. You have every right to be proud of deciding to pass on those two bottles!
恭贺新禧!
1) Am in Tam Dao, which is so fresh and grounded, piney sandalwood goodness.
2) This means DONUTS and LONG NOODLES- Blue Star donuts in fact, and long noodles at Frank’s Noodle house. The noodles are HAND PULLED, yo, fresh before your eyes!
Yum! And you smell great!
Thank you! I love Tam Dao; a great scent for late winter into spring- or all year!
You’re making me hungry! I’ve had a craving for Mexican food so am going out for dinner… but now I want really good noodles too.
Try and find some good jiang mein; the texture and bite is wonderful and it’s just fun to eat long noodle and slurp!
Love Tam Dao!
I still reminisce about the hand pulled noodles I had in Vancouver once…they are not easy to find around here (and not even in the norcal Bay Area I think). Enjoy!
It’s pretty exciting to see them made and cooked in front of you! I will enjoy- thank you!
that one is perfect for today
Good morning, all. I’m here! I’m glad! Yesterday, I tried to tell you How Titus Nearly Caught a Bird, and I kneecapped myself on the corner of the coffee table, but the site wouldn’t let me post. No matter. The story wasn’t really very funny, though the lump on my knee still hurts. Anyhow…my choice for today is the earth-green-and-water scent of L’Ombre dans L’ Eau. Maybe this isn’t quite earthy enough for the project, but I find it very grounding, and though the perfumes aren’t alike, I find it evokes the same reaction in me as Bel Respiro. It’s the sensation of being in a quiet, damp garden where man6 gentle smells blend easily into a single impression. For some reason, they both feel like dawn to me.
Today is V-Day. The purrs visit our wonderful vet for their vaccination boosts and Eric’s checkup. I hope she feels they’re all bonny and we’re doing well by them!
Be well, all.
I feel confident that the Fursome Balls of Doom and Destruction are getting the best of care in your hands. I saw an advert for a tote bag the other day that I think you (and I) might need: “I work hard so my cats can have a better life.”
Oh, yes, perecty! I’m anxious at the moment because they aren’t eating much— they toy idly with a plate of beef and bunny, topped with EVSB (Eric’s Very Special Biscuits). When they let it sit and seems a little spoiled, I talk to them severely about the many purrs in the world who would be very pleased indeed to see a plate of high-grade protein tasting of prey, but they just look down their long noses and wander off. The proof of all my fretting will be on the scales: the question of the day is,”Has Eric tipped over 3.75kg yet?” The stripes are no real concern at all.
Perecty? What?????
I KNOW I typed “perfect”!
🙂
Ouch! Your poor knee! That’s going to take a while before it feels OK. However, I have no doubt that the furries are going to pass their vet exam with flying (or meowing) colors.
Wearing Commodity Gold today for it’s luck and in hopes of prosperity in the new year. I’m looking forward to hearing from my dad in Korea- they celebrate most Chinese calendar holidays and I’m sure they’ve celebrated.
*its luck (no apostrophe lol)
Fun! I like Commodity Book myself.
Wearing ELO’s big bellybutton, for no particular reason. Could be considered the most earth-like perfume I have, perhaps.
That explanation works for me!
Drinking pu-erh tea – extremely earthy – and wearing the faintest trace of Jaisalmer left over from yesterday (I oversprayed, otherwise it would be completely gone by now).
Happy Lunar New Year, everybody!
Still, that’s some serious lasting power!
Fille en Aiguilles is my SOTD as I clean up the mess of things that accumulate around my favorite chair. Books, magazines, clipped coupons, glasses (3 pair), glasses case, earrings, a necklace, lens cleaner, a dog brush, dental floss, emery board….Okay, I am stopping now as I realize I am embarrassing myself. Perhaps my Chinese New Year resolution is to put things back when I am finished with them, rather than putting them on the side table or on the floor next to the chair.
i just refer to my chair in the corner as the cockpit.
LOL! Love it.
Xin Nian Kuai Le, one and all.
I was thinking of the tradition wherein celebrants get new clothes at Lunar new year, and so I wore my newest perfume, Smell of Weather Turning. I just bought the FB in January.
Ah, good thinking.
No perfume for me yet, I’ve lacked the imagination for this week’s theme, and am most impressed with the ideas you have come up with. We’re going to a first birthday party for a great-nephew this afternoon, so I’m trying to think of something festive. Possibly my recent acquisition of Fate.
I’m also eagerly awaiting the discovery set from Fort and Manle. The brand had slipped my notice till recently, when I tried a sample from Luckyscent. Suleyman le Magnifique is very nice and, when I discovered it’s an Australian company, I thought I should investigate further – it’s good to support one’s neighbours 🙂
We should do a perfume trip to Melbourne one day. The perfumes sound interesting.
We should!
What an excellent idea!
Yes, because there’s that not-quite-suburban perfume shop (Purple? Paisley? Peony?) that carries quite interesting stock, but in which I always feel I am only doubtfully fit to breathe the air (it’s metred, I think) and Hermes, and your new discovery, Gaynor, and gazillions of goodies. And the art centre, and often good ballet, and that arcade where they sell bow ties and matching handkerchiefs (I don’t want either, actually, so I don’t know why I mentioned it, except that the colours are soooooooo pretty).
You forgot to mention the cake shops! It’s a plan.
Hi Gaynor, I read about that one and was very interested too! What can you tell me about it?
I am wearing Hove Rue Royale today and currently drinking a cup of honeybush acai berry tea.
Happy Lunar New Year! Happy Friday!
For today’s project I’m in Amouage Gold. In addition to the obvious evocation of prosperity, it’s such a warm, joyful scent. So, it’s an all-encompassing auspiciousness, if you will.
I may be rockin’ dry shampoo and no makeup today, but, dadgummit, I *smell* like a million freakin’ bucks!????
Have a great one, peeps!
You do smell like a million freaking bucks! And really good, too!
Ha! Sounds like how I looked today.
Well this morning I tested Ex Nihilo Fleur Narcotique, which was a dog, so to speak, so I suppose I’m sortof on topic. (Apologies to anyone who likes that scent. More for you.)
Moved on to NV Bombay Bling, since I could use some fun in my day. Now that’s more like it.
LOL! I haven’t found an Ex Nihilo that excites me yet. Aedes just included some samples with my latest order so I’ll give them another whirl before I write them off completely.
I just rehomed a bunch of EN samples they gave me for free at Bergdorf’s. Either they didn’t excite me at all or just plain grated on my nerves (mostly the latter).
Ha! That was a scrubber on me. Seemed inoffensive enough but for something so polite and somewhat ordinary in that fruity floral way, it sure is aggressive. Maybe passive-aggressive.
I agree re: the Fleur and many (most?) others I’ve tried from the line, but Ex Nihilo Love Shot grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go. It’s a real fave at the moment.
For the Year of the Dog, I am wearing Shalimar – it is the one my doggies react the best too.
It is a long weekend in NS, so counting down the hours !!!
I may put that one on later..love Shalimar
Trying Wicked Love today, thanks to Sephora for sample. Love the green bell pepper in this one. Very green and I’d say in the same vain as L’Ombre Dans L’Eau but rose is softer as it also adds jasmine and hyacinth.
Took a mental health day today and just now enjoying a coffee & butter cookies via a local bakery. Popped in J.Crew and so uninspired by their latest looks. Blah. I miss Jenna Lyons already.
Mental health days are good for you!
Wearing my last bit of Caron French Cancan parfum. I’m going to hope that finishing something is an auspicious sign for the year…
Best of Fridays to you all!
It is! This felt like the longest week and I don’t know why!
Hello NST! To those of you celebrating the Lunar New Year, may you have a prosperous and healthy new year! Happy Friday, too.
I wanted to wear my dankest, earthiest, funkiest patchouli scent today (for Earth Dogs, of course) but decided not to. Someone was coming over to the house to measure the bathrooms for the tub renovations, and I figured I’d be nice and not fume them out.
SOTD = Tauer Une Rose Chypree, from the sample stash, and a lovely NSTer. This blooms wonderfully in cool rainy weather. No ands, ifs, or buts, URC is definitely a cool to cold weather fragrance. Or at least, that is what it is telling me.
Duh, I forgot to mention why I chose Une Rose Chypree. Spicy roses for a lucky flower, plus some woods thrown in for good measure.
You smell fabulous!
Nice! ????
SOTD has been Carthusia “Numero Uno”.
Top: orange, eucalyptus and bergamot;
Mid: patchouli, violet, ylang-ylang, artemisia, thyme and cubeb pepper;
Base: musk, vetiver, myrrh, labdanum and woody notes.
The sprayer leaked a tiny amount during travel, enough to dissolve the ink on the label I’d written. I’ve eventually worked out what it at was by remembering my actions when packing. And not, for example, because it is in any way memorable or distinctive. :^D
Started the week in Jesus del Pozo “Noble Nights Musk”, which is a nice cozy evening scent but didn’t work as a SOTD. Then Tue-Thu was a blast through Timothy Han, “Decay of the Angel”, “She Came to Stay” and “On the Road”. I liked the last of the three, probably because it smells like one of my BeauFort London scents, and by the same token I don’t need it. The other two were too ‘dirty-smelling’ for me (and I don’t think I mean skanky).
Sad to say SAC Perfumes of Malaga is no more. Although they wouldn’t have made their fortunes on my perfume spending this year TBH. TOMK and I are over just for the weekend to see if we can negotiate an acceptable price for renovating our apartment with the initial people we have spoken to. I don’t really want to go looking for another team, but need to push on the cost a bit.
Decay was quite smoky for me. The name is so evocative and I really wanted to like this one. May give it another try.
SotD = Hiris, smells like money to me.
Dear Universe, please accept my wish for a plentiful Year of the Dog for NSTers everywhere.
Hope everyone had a great Friday.
Hear hear!
Late to the party but wanted to join in for Chinese New Year. Could use a clean slate after this week. So in Contre Bombarde, ahhh.
SOTD = Papillon Angelique
I’m continuing Month of Irises with Undina and friends.
I am going for a two-fer connection with dogs ????
✅ Papillon is a type of dog
And now you need to indulge me on the 2nd connection —
My dad and one of my uncles decided to get 2 dogs from the same litter. They had a German Shepherd dad and a Chow-Chow mom, resulting in dogs that look like GSDs shape-wise from the body on up, with 4 stubby legs supporting each. We got the one with black and brown markings while my uncle got a white one with black splotches. Now, we have cousins from another uncle (oldest out of 10) who were much older and closer in age to the youngest uncle. Anyway, one of these older cousins married this prissy woman whom none of the cousins liked. The white dog had a similar personality and we (yes, we got a vote even though the white one was not ours) named her after this prissy woman (we changed a vowel and shortened it by 1 syllable). Fast forward several years and cousin and prissy wife had kids, one of whom they named Angelique! I told you there was a dog connection ????????????
Do I get ????✅✅ ?
Ha! That’s great! You passed and surpassed the requirements for the cp. ????
Thanks, Petunia! Happy Lunar New Year!
And, Happy Lunar New Year! I was supposed to go to a party tomorrow night to celebrate but since my ride is not going, I don’t feel like looking for another ride. Besides, it is supposed to snow tomorrow night.
That is a beautiful coin but too heavy to make into a pendant ????
Brilliant!! I have 2 Papillon dogs and I didn’t even think of that connection! (smacks forehead)
Heh, I didn’t know papillons were dogs until I read that you had 2 of them!
