Happy World Radio Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Heretic Parfums Pistil Whip, which I can't seem to make up my mind about. Tea at the moment is my usual morning Irish Breakfast.
Reminder: on 2/16 we're celebrating the Lunar New Year...wear an auspicious fragrance to ring in the Year of the (Earth) Dog.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image shows Pug in a Mug silicone tea infusers, available on Amazon and lots of other places.
Wearing one of my Greyhound’s favourite scents – Guerlain Bois d’Armenie.
The smallest one ( Actually a Galgo) is in my avatar.
Cute avatar, I will have to look up Galgo, I have never heard that before. Some day I will get with it and create my avatar 🙂
Galgos are Spanish Greyhounds and are used for hunting in Europe. Very bad things happen at the end of hunting season. I recommend careful googling so as to avoid the kind of images that will haunt you for years.
Yes, these dogs are treated very badly during hunting season, and worse is to come. Rescuing Galgos, as you have done, is an act of love…
I volunteer in greyhound and Galgo rescue, so I see and hear more than most.
There are some lovely rescue societies in Spain.
I recommend

For lovely stories of trust and love.
My Galgo Ollie adores perfumes, and often shows his approval or lack thereof before I leave the house. He is a Shalimar addict
Argh yes, I read an article about the horrible treatment of those sweet dogs, just thinking about it right now makes me furious and sad.
Thank you for the warning. On the happier end of the dog photos spectrum there is this, which I came across yesterday and still have trouble believing is real.

oh my heart, that is adorable.
Thank you for posting that – those are incredible!!
Thank you for sharing. They are amazing!
And he wears galoshes and plays chess??!?!?!?! That’s it; I’m stealing them both.
Koyel, Oh my Thank YOU SO MUCH!! This is amazing, I can’t wait to share it. You made my day!! Also know who my next rescue breed will be, I had never heard of this and am sickened and angry! Thank YOU hannahmom. Is it very difficult to get them sent to rhe U.S.?
thank you for the heads up, I will NOT look it up. Glad your pup has you.
Omg chubby pugs 😀
Wearing Dior Feve Delicieuse today. It’s so sweet! Pistil whip is an interesting name.
I thought they were pigs at first! PUGS! So cute.
The squirrels are mighty cute too. And dolphins.
I am wearing Man in Black, by Bvlgari today. So comforting.
And…..my first Back Up Bottle ever arrived today. Now I feel like a real perfumista!
Its Fille en Aiguilles, the fragrance that made me love perfume again and the one that sent me down the rabbit hole, exactly 2 years and 3 days ago! 🙂
I found a very good deal, could not resist knowing this one is leaving the SL export/50 ml line….
Congrats! That’s a good one. I bought quite a few backups when the repackaging panic hit last year. Just bought my final backup of Bapteme du Feu (I think). 😉
The upside of the repackaging, some SL’s are being discounted.
I managed to grab A la nuit a year ago for 50 euros.
That was months before the news about the repackaging came out. Thinking about it now, it was an early sign, they were already preparing for the changes.
The new bottles are huge and a but chunky, and to be honest, I dont like the design as much as the old ones.
I hope they dont change the bell jars!
Love that one! I wore it almost my entire time in Kyoto, and now I think of Japan every time I wear it. 🙂
Oooh thats a great memory! 🙂
I visited Japan two years ago, and I loved it, I really want to go back there one day!
I’ve struggled with the Bvlgari Blacks. I have a few big bottles taunting me in the cupboard. Might have to reexplore.
Just to make sure we are talking about the same scent…
Its Man in Black (a boozy spicy leather you can find in almost every perfume store that has like 50 flankers haha 😉
NOT Bvlgari Black (the tea tarry/leather vanilla in the round bottle, i think its discontinued – I swapped my bottle last year…too much powdery vanilla on my skin, though I love the opening phase).
No I was with you. I love Bvlgari Black. It’s the Man in Black and the flankers I’m not sure I like. Definitely worth another try though. I got the bottles pretty inexpensively.
🙂
Man in black works best for me in cold weather.
Its not my most worn fragrance (I think it stood there untouched for months and monthd) but I am glad I have small bottle when I am in the mood for a straightforward sweet comfort scent that does not offend half the whole office. 😉
(One spray is enough for me)
Sometimes my husband wears it and I think he wears it better haha.
Btw, the flankers of MiB do nothing for me.
Or is Man in black actually a flanker to Bvlgari Man??? ????????
Now I’m curious about how you’ve specifically pinpointed the very day you went down the rabbit hole 😀 I suppose I’d attribute mine to the day I placed my first sample order from TPC, which was just over 3 years ago.
🙂
Well, back then I made a picture of my purchase (i wanted to show some family members I started to wear perfume again haha).
And I still have that photo in my online archive.
I still remember that day, i was so happy and excited, and also a bit nervous – I had never bought a bottle of perfume THAT expensive….two years later and I am not even blinking an eye when I see prices like that…????
I am wearing Shalimar initial as it fell off the shelf and into my dresser drawer as I was getting dressed and I decided why not. A bit louder than my usual choices but nice.
I passed my bottle of SI along, big mistake
That’s a known sign from Donatella 😉
🙂
I am in Coromandel today thanks to a friend who sent me a sample and I smell great. Not sure why I had a block about this one although I suspect it is well beyond my budget.
Heretic Perfumes tend to fall in the undecided category for me most of the time.
Coromandel was tough for me at first! One of those very sophisticated scents. I like it more now that I’ve given it a few tries but it’s still not one I reach for often. When I do though, the drydown is worth it – there’s something in its structure that reminds me of a few Amouages but I’m not sure if that’s a legit comparison. You do smell great today!!
You smell great!
Scent Twin! I finally found my edt decant – I went in on a split of the huge bottle right before they replaced the edt with the lesser edp – and was so excited that there was no other fragrance in contention for SOTD. I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to like this one; maybe I’d have a FB of my own. Since perfume is meant to be worn, however, I will use it up with a smile on my face!
Hi twin! Smelling good 😉
One of my favourites. I splurged on the last bottle of EDT at the Toronto Boutique the same day I bought the last FB of Mitzah available in Canada ( at the time)
My poor Visa still recoils at the thought.
You smell amazing
Coping with Monday’s less attractive younger sibling ( 😀 ) in MFK Bacarrat Rouge 540, courtesy of the lovely laurels and the freebie meet!
“Coping with Monday’s less attractive younger sibling” I love that, I may need to use it
🙂 Please use whenever you like —
I can’t remember now who objected to my regular use of “Monday’s ugly little sister”, but I miss it. Yours sounds more refined 🙂
I re-tried this the other day (the first time I had such bad allergies I could barely smell it) and it was marvelous! Very subtle and refined and beautiful. But just too expensive for me!
There was something in Baccarat Rouge 540 that didn’t work on my skin, which was totally ok given the price!!
FOrtunately for my wallet, I couldn’t smell it at all.
I struggled with it as well, the sweetness made me feel uncomfortable 🙁
Yes, the price is scary, but I really like it!
Mmmmm lovely! I’ve been debating whether to host a split for BR540 this weekend…
If you do, I’d be happy to go in on it!
I would if you are splitting the extrait.
Oooo, a complication! I had been wondering if there would be enough interest to spring for the 200ml edp. But your comment makes me now assume that the extrait is different enough / better enough that that should be the choice instead? Ack, a dilemma!!! 🙂
Hi More-jasmine-please, I am IN for the split- that’s MY down-the-rabbit-hole scent, and I still don’t have much of it. I am IN For sure- whichever version you choose!!! I am Sooooo excited. I’ll take whatever you can spare! If allowed.
Haha LOL at ‘Monday’s less attractive sibling’ 😀
I should give my sample of that a re-sniff. I liked it a lot when I first tried it. But ouch that price tag!
Finally trying Santal 33 thanks to Merrily Row! It’s nice. I’m trying not to dismiss it too easily just because it’s popular.
If you don’t live in a large coastal city, you won’t smell it everywhere — my guess, anyway.
Stayed up last night to watch Chloe Kim take the gold last night.
Auspicious SOTD Cristalle
SipOTD matcha latte
Lippy: lipstick queen Medevil
????Great job Chloe.
That was awesome – I loved that she took her third run and got an even higher score!
Me too! Ah-mazing!
I often wonder what music the snowboarders are listening to while they are doing their runs..
+1!
We watched too. She was incredible, and made it look “easy”! All the while with a smile on her face, I love it when they seem like they are genuinely having a good time.
Oh, me too! She was having a blast.
I love the shots of her Dad cheering her on! So much love
I watched Chloe Kim too! She had some amazing tricks in her routine.
Second (and last day) sampling Hiram Green Shangri La, because I dropped the sample vial????. Early in my perfume journey I didn’t “get” chypres- but I love this one. Whatever no-buy resolution I may have had is probably going to be broken for the travel spray!
I love that they have travel sprays. I haven’t sampled an yet, but this is a line I want to check out this year. I bet you smell outstanding!
Twisted Lily has the travel size and I think their 20% off sale may still be going. Maybe…
Oh too bad about the dropped sample. 🙁
Pistil Whip is such a great name! I haven’t tried any of the Heretic scents, but I DID get the Scandalwood candle, and while I don’t really care for the scent, the disappearing ink on the glass is a very cool effect.
Wearing Parfum Sacre today, but as I smell traces of Feminite du Bois on my coat, I wish there had been just a drop left in the sample so I could have worn that today instead.
It’s a fantastic name!
Scandalwood is good, too!
In Trayee today. I did not wear it for a long time and I forgot how wonderful this perfume is but how difficult it is for me to handle sandalwood in many perfumes. I poured on myself half of my sample early this morning and despite liking the opening as usual, now I am having a hard time dealing with the drydown. I hope not to develop a headache, because it is not easy to scrub it off. No matter how many times I try it, Trayee it is not for me.
Sadly, I’m in the same boat. Trayee is so beautiful… until it makes me nauseous. Sigh
So sad! I already have a mild headache 🙁
Not for me either. I can’t do Trayee or Mohur, the ones most people seem to love. I liked Ashoka, though.
I need to retrieve my samples of Mohur and Ashoka which I have not worn in a long time either. I think I had problems with Ashoka when I tried before. Well, I guess Neela Vermeire does not get any love from me…
I have a hard time with sandalwood too. I hope you stay headache free.
Not anymore!????. But I will survive!
Oh, that’s too bad. It smells so beautiful. Sorry it makes you feel yucky.
It is indeed beautiful! I wish I could tolerate it.
I love sandalwood and the NV line in general. Owning a bottle of Mohur Extrait would be huge, but I can’t justify the cost, right? ????
I will look tonight for my sample of Mohur and try it again. It is very difficult to justify the purchase of the Extrait, but hey! do not lose your hopes…. 🙂
I hope that your headache goes away soon. It’s the pits when a scent you want to like does that.
It is gone! But I can still smell Trayee on my sweater
🙁
SOTD is the Robin-inspired layering of Eau des Merveilles and Eau Claire des Merveilles, for what is supposed to be another clear, crisp, sunny day here.
Yay. I may wear that this afternoon.
Pulled out my sample of Irisss which is probably the first sample I ever sought out and bought – and wisely did the tiniest dab this time. I’m happy to report that I’m **not** getting the prominent whiskey note that clobbered me on prior wears. The downside is that it’s not projecting much either. I’ll add to my dab here in a bit and see where this baby goes today.
Well. I just ordered a pug in a mug tea infuser that I hadn’t known I needed.
SOTD is PG Indochine – yum!
It is pretty bad when we get enabled for non-perfume things here, isn’t it ?? 😛
🙂
You smell great! One of my favorites! Thanks for the reminder- I need to wear is soon.
Glad the Pug is getting some Love! ????
You smell goooood!
SOTD is another rose, Gris Montaigne. Not super rose forward, but a very gentle patchouli rose. Very pretty.
Very pretty indeed!
Love GM, you smell great!
Lovely!
Just finished my decant of that the other day. Call me impressionable to marketing, but I always felt better dressed when I wore that one. ????
One of my favs. You smell lovely!
SOTD: Nothing.
I mean, Rien (Intense) from ELdO. Ha.
????????
LOL!
Job interview this afternoon. A little nervous. A spritz of Mediterraneo this morning which will be gone in about 30 minutes, so no problem for the interview.
GOOD LUCK ON THE INTERVIEW!!! Totally exciting!!! I bet you’ll do great!
Good luck!
Good luck! I am sure you will do really good!
Good luck today!
Go Gett’em! Good luck
Best of luck to you!????????
You got this!
Best of luck!!
Good luck!
Good luck!!!
Hope it goes well!
You’ll do great!
Hope all goes swimmingly.
Best of luck! Knock ‘em out with your brilliance!
Hope it goes well!
Go get ’em!
I hope it went well!
Good luck on the interview!
Hope it went well!
Those tea pugs are cute.
And I have a sample of Pistil Whip awaiting me, once I get done with the Vanilla Quest.
Speaking of which, I ordered some vanilla-y oil samples from Cocoa Pink, thinking, well, the spendy vanillas didn’t work for me and maybe I should try some at the other end of the spectrum. I tested two last night and two more this morning. These are tending to be verrrry foody and sweet: Frosted Eyelet is giving me tooth decay as I write and Black Vanilla is surprisingly nice. Triple Vanilla Dream was a lot like melted vanilla ice cream (yummy. still not ma thang), but I suspect CP’s version of Spiriteuse Double Vanille is going to be the winner: vanilla extract, vanilla ice cream, faint threads of something floral, rich benzoin, a slightly burnt-sugar undertone.
I’m testing oils, but these also come as 1 oz perfume spray for $17.50. I have some DSH vanillas to test after I finish the two other Cocoa Pinks, so we’ll see.
Still on your vanilla quest! Have you tried Vanille Insensee? I like that one because of the citrus top note.
Nope. I am not much of a citrus lover (every now and then I love one, but it’s generally not a favorite), and I don’t think this one would be up my alley given the notes. I have a half-used bottle of Shalimar Light if I get the urge for lemon vanilla. 🙂
Black Vanilla is giving me a headache now, so cross that one out.
Never heard of cocoa pink – just went on their site, you are brave to have forgaged through all of those options! Let us know which vanilla is your favorite in the end
I got melted vanilla ice cream from Tihota, which turned out to be Not My Thing. If you come across a vanilla that’s rich and smoky, I’d love to hear about it 😀
Aftelier’s Vanilla Smoke is really nice, and is def. not foody to me
Oh, I don’t have any objection to foody, particularly desserty, I just wasn’t fond of the overwhelming and sweet melted-ice-cream of Tihota. Vanilla Smoke has always sounded utterly swoonworthy, but the price is much too steep for me to contemplate.
I also have skin that doesn’t always want to cooperate (sometimes it eats everything up; sometimes it projects like crazy) so I’ve avoided naturals and oils to some extent, assuming they won’t work well for me.
The Aftelier samples are cheap and she gives you enough to get a feel for it. The only thing I don’t like about ordering samples is the high cost of shipping. Perhaps you can offer to host a samples order for splitting? (I did it once and it was a win-win for me and the splittees as we all ended up paying less than if we had to order ourselves….besides, pretty much only the ones who participated in a bottle split were included in the Aftelier samples split).
+1 with preference to the extrait which I have.
7 Billion Hearts is smoky vanilla to me.
Mirra & Mirra by I Coloniali, long discontinued so I’m hoarding my last few drops. Basically SL Douce Amere without the weirdness, just warm, slightly bitter comfort.
Oh, loved that one! Good job hoarding the last bit–and now using it!
Inspired by Eleebelle’s comment, my SotD is Feminite du Bois from a sample. I have recently reorganized my samples-all 110 of them- which may not seem like a lot to some, but they were starting to overwhelm me. In my mind I have a plan to methodically sample and either keep or rehome all of them in the next few months.
I’m off to do some Valentine’s Day shopping. I’m thinking chocolate covered strawberries sound good…
Chocolate covered strawberries! Romantic
Can I be your valentine?
110 sounds like a lot to me. I also get overwhelmed by too many samples. Have fun valentine shopping! My H brought me a box of chocolates last night, but I guess since it’s a holiday we both celebrate, I have to share 😉
World radio day, awesome! I’m probably the only person that still gets my music from the radio. There are so many great songs written about radio that I love. Day off today, with lots to do. Wearing Cuir Amethyst. The first time I wore this, it was 80 degrees, and I about suffocated myself. It is much lovelier in winter, for sure.
I like listening to the radio at home so that I don’t have to use up any of my bandwidth for music, and the sound quality is better. But my radio died and can’t decide on a replacement. 🙁
I listen to the news and music on my radio when I am home. Call me old fashioned, but I still enjoy it that way! 🙂
My radio is tuned to WCBS and I don’t bother changing it even if it’s the Yankees or some other sports show!
I listen to the radio at home. Not so much when I am driving, though, since we have Sirius XM.
Good morning Y’all!
Had a craving for Atelier Pomélo Paradis this morning….Bright and crisp!
Today’s smelly temptation is the Valentine’s sale on Yves Rocher’s website today….I must resist! Fun to look at though….
Ha, I was just over there 🙂
Well, I don’t normally spray perfume onto my hair, but that’s what happened today. Misaimed the sprayer and now one side of my hair smells like Beloved. It’s one of those extra oily perfumes too, but hey, it sure does smell great!
Your hair smells lovely!
Lovely fragrance!
Hello scent twin! You and your hair smell terrific. 🙂
SotAM = L’Heure Bleue EdT
It’s still morning, but L’Heure Bleue feels just right. Insolence EdT is on standby for this afternoon and evening.
GottarunHavaterrificTuesdayNST!
Wearing Guerlain Insolence edp for the ongoing month of irises. I need something cheerful as I’m anxious about my dog’s cardiology appt. today and dental tomorrow (she has a bad heart murmur).
Hope all goes well!!!
Thank you, it went well!
Best wishes for the pup’s visits!
Thanks, she did well!
Awww, I’m sorry. I know that fearful feeling, my little (canine) man has a murmur too (amongst other issues). I hope everything goes smoothly and that Insolence has you wrapped in comfort-you smell great!
Thank you! Cardiology visit went well, dental tomorrow.
I hope everything goes well for your dog!
Thank you! She did well.
T-Rex and I send our best wishes for your pup! ????
Many thanks! It went well.
Ollie and his Greyhound brothers send inappropriate sniffs to your girlie.
Please let us know how it goes
Thank you! We got the green light for the dental tomorrow.
Good luck! Fingers crossed for good news.
Thanks, it went well!
I do like Insolence.
Glad the appointment went well and all cleared for the dental.
VQ ‘18 continues with Vanille Exquise and Missions cologne…
The Missions is quite nice. How sad it is discontinued. Someone in a previous thread confirmed it was around $30 for 100 ml before discontinuation. Almost less than free with perfume math.
I do wonder why it was discontinued. It seems to be very popular.
It is a conundrum. 🙂
What did you think of the VE?
I was just about to post my thoughts 😉 …reminds me of Shalimar actually.
Cool! I liked it, too. Nice, just a tiny bit sweet. I’m contemplating getting a decant of this one.
I’ll include in the package…I think I know where my bottle is.
You meant the VE, right? I also have Eau de Missions. Next to iris, Vanilla is my 2nd favorite.
As cute at those tea infusers are I have no desire to sit one of those in my tea mug.
Today I’m wearing Coromandel and it was the only thing on my hour & a half subway nightmare commute that kept me smiling. I don’t know how much more of this I can take. I’ve commuted in NYC for almost 25 years now and it just gets worse every year. Sorry for the rant, but I could go on. Thank you for “listening”. 🙂
I added up once how much time I spent on BART over a six year commute. It worked out to something like 4-5 months
You smell fantastic though.
Yikes! You and Hajusuuri’s commuting woes sound horrible. Too bad rocket backpacks are not available…
Srsly! We have Dick Tracy watches and TV screen phones. Where are the jetpacks???
Yikes again…this is the 2nd extended time in 3 weeks?
Hi hajusuuri, I ran out of comment space in the thread above. I would love a bit of VE, and thank you very much, ma’am!
Getting to the last few drops of Gold Knight by Kilian. In my freebie pack were samples of both Woman in Gold and Gold Knight, but the latter is by far my favorite – it smells gorgeous on me. Unsurprisingly, I’d have to forego dinners out for the remainder of the year in order to acquire a bottle.
OMG, I smelled that at Nordstroms and damn near fainted at the price.
If you have a friendly SA, perhaps you can buy a Nordstrom 5 mL atomizer and she can fill it up for you? ????
Auspicious perfume #2 – Aedes de Venustas the Original – reminding me to be authentic this year. As for the perfume itself: not really my thing. The rhubarb-tomato leaf situation is fascinating, but too astringent to be actively enjoyable for me.
Unfortunately, since I bought it blind, it’s one of only two Duchaufours that I actively dislike. (The other is Patchouli Patch.) Someday I’ll sell it or swap it away.
Ooh, that’s a bummer. I wore Patchouli Patch last week and didn’t actively dislike it, but it wasn’t my thing either. In that beautiful bottle, I’m sure SOMEBODY would be happy to trade for the AdV.
It is a beautiful bottle, and I can’t recall L’AP doing any other bottles (of that type) in colored glass, and nothing else frosted. That may have influenced my blind leap! 😉
Began the day in Miller Harris l’air de rien. At first, I did not know what to think of this one, but it’s quickly grown on me. Driving home at lunch to pick up a just-delivered Coco Mademoiselle Intense edp. So excited!
Oh excited for you! Report back!
Report back!!!
It is beautiful, exactly as described- intense Coco Mad- but more than the sum of its amplified parts. Bought 1st bottle of original edp almost a decade ago. Every bottle bought since has been weaker, screechier than the 1 before it. Intense doesn’t just feel like Chanel is merely giving us the original coco mad formula at a higher price. It’s elevated from the original. I was 25 when original debuted in ‘01 & remember well how it smelled. You could go nowhere in public w/o smelling it. Intense has the throw & punch of the original in the opening but in ~15 mins, it becomes its own gorgeous thing of high quality, earthy patchouli blended with the rose jasmine. That opening had me swearing I could detect a spicy-soapy quality of the original Coco. The patchouli tho is so prevalent, no worries whatsoever about a soap fest. Tonka and vanilla tamp down original’s screechy (to me) white musk in the dry down. I’m not sure I’ve come across a more beautifully blended fragrance. After 2-3 hours, CMI became a skin scent and a freaking gorgeous one at that. If you were thinking of getting the 12 hr silage that used to happen w/ original CM, you may be disappointed. If patchouli isn’t your bag, don’t even. It is so there from start to finish. I see myself saving this for nights out (but will totally be wearing this to office for next week lol). Don’t see myself wearing in the summer 98% humidity + 98F heat. Even so, I’m kicking myself for not paying the extra $30 to purchase the 3.4 oz instead of 1.7 oz. Silly me.
Your review has made me want it. 🙂 I love vintage Coco, am indifferent to current Coco and never got into Coco Mademoiselle. Will have to check out the Intense version. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. And buy 2 more bottles before they reformulate it. 😉
Seriously, right?! That was my exact thought. 2x$$$. Worth it. ????
More roses for me with Rossy de Palma, one of my favorites.
Like many others, I gave in to temptation and bought a mini of Iris Rebelle. It’s not like I wasn’t warned, but, man, that opening is CARROTY.
Carroty indeed!! I am wearing this today as well, and I, like Robin, totally succumbed to the winter blahs and bought this. I actually really like how carroty it is, that’s what nabbed me in the first place, but I find the performance disappointing.
Ah, I meant that I’m wearing Iris Rebelle today.
If it had stayed more carroty I would like it better!
I passed on it because of the carrot note..
I’m just starting to explore iris scents, and I wasn’t entirely sure what people meant by “carroty,” as the one iris scent I like (FM’s Iris Poudre) doesn’t really have any notes like that. So I had to laugh when I spritzed it and thought, “Oh, so carroty means it smells EXACTLY like carrots.” I’m not sure if I like it or not, will need to give it a full day some time soon.
That’s exactly why I liked this one – it’s carroty earthiness! I hope you enjoy it, too.
Capsule perfumes troupe, a sample from the recent freebie meet????✌️. It’s described as neroli+cedar+vanilla, but I think there’s incense and maybe jasmine, too.
More/more than I’m used to, we’ll see how it turns out!
If you think of it…tell us how it is. I would like to explore Capsule some more.
I didn’t love the opening, I found it a little harsh/and chemical to my nose, but now it’s mellowed into a super nice cedary thing.
I kind of wasn’t feeling anything perfume-wise today, so sprayed on the remainder of a Grace Coddington sample. Almost like wearing nothing, and its light, tart citrusy freshness made a nice palate cleanser.
Funny, that one has been hanging out on my sample list for quite awhile now.
Does it resemble Barbara Bui at all in terms of intensity?
It’s basically just a tart, fresh rose barely-there spritzer/cologne. It’s nearly gone now except for a faint musk. I don’t think I’d pay $80 or even $50 for something like this eventhough I love the bottle. I’m sure there are cheaper versions of this.
Barbara Bui, though it’s not heavy, lasts a good 12 hours on me.
Wow, BB lasts 12 hours on you? Lucky duck! It tops out at about 6 hours on me.
And thanks for the info on the Grace Coddington. Sounds like money saved.
TDC Sublime Balkiss, that I got years ago when I ordered estagnons of both Divine Bergamote and Bois d’Iris strait from the TDC website. They sent me mini bottles of both this one and of Oriental Lounge.
Still very stupidly enjoying the Dutch speed skating. It may not be going as well as in 2014, which to be honest was really extraordinary, but still, 4th gold medal. I can never get excited about Dutch football but I adore watching this sport, it must be hereditary, I distinctly remember my late grandfather always watching the skating. He would have loved this.
I love Sublime Balkiss!
It’s actually really nice, I don’t think I’ll need more than this small bottle, but I will finish that.
Hope your day goes smoothly, what with your son and hospitals and everything!
At Children’s Hospital with my son for routine tests. Always a little depressing in the day hospital. Did not want to wear anything too strong so just have some Bronze Goddess whipped lotion on my hands.
Yesterday my bargain travel spray of Bvlgari Amarena arrived. To my nose it fits squarely in the scented make-up perfume category…like Lipstick Rose. Fragrantica tells me the powder is rose and cherry/pomagranate not the usual rose and violet… but it is in that genre. I may buy another travel spray. I love the make-up scents.
Sending love from Portland for your boy!
Good thoughts to you and your son today, mama Fresca!
Best of luck with the appointment!
I do, too – it’s one of my favorite categories. Putting this one on my wishlist!
Hope things went well for you and your son today.
Oakland, thinking of you!
Vintage No. 5 today – parfum with a spritz or three of edt. Perfection for a rainy day.
Wearing Tam Dao in line with my “green, earthy and woody” interpretation of Lunar Year theme. Not really earthy but it is woody and green.
Oh! Lovely! And perfect for spring. My tiny bottle is gone and I do think I should re- up on another!
Testing Fort & Manle Charlatan – chocolate + pear (but surprisingly not sweet at all). Trying to decide if it is split worthy 🙂
Sounds very intriguing. I’m such a pushover for anything with chocolate.
It is quite nice. I think it is a worthy candidate for splits
Pear??
*hannahmom perks her ears up in great interest*
Hannahmom, what other pear frags do you like
Today I’m in Amyris Homme from MFK. Not crazy about it but I can’t say I dislike it either.
Hello All!
1) Chilly and frosty morning! In SpiceBomb, which is perfectly spicy and powdery for a frosty sunny day!
2) Am in a quilted gold Chinese style silk jacket, black shirt and slacks. Will be going out with friends to see Shape of Water (Coco plays too early in the day for me to get downtown) to wash the bad memory of Peter Rabbit away!
but for real tho? DON’T SEE PETER RABBIT.
I loved Shape of Water but, prepare your mind to be in a fantasy world and try to just let go and not try to figure it out or make sense of it. Hope I am communicating this the right way. Basically if you are a realistic type of person I think you should save you money and skip this one, but if you allow yourself to become entranced by it I think its well worth it. The director pays attention to every minute detail in the film and deserved the oscar nod.
My husband wants to see this but now that you’ve put it like this I should probably have him go with a friend who would more enjoy a fantasy like this. I’m too much of a realist.
Maybe I’m too much of a realist, too, as I have zero desire to see this. My H doesn’t either. We’re both engineer-y types (see below) (worked in a related field.) I’d never have put my finger on it quite that way, but ya, fantasy-whatever never really appeals to me.
I prefer realism, myself, and am not drawn to fantasy or sci-fi at all, but I really enjoyed this one and agree it was quite beautifully done and think it’s a big screen kind of movie. It’s a theme that’s already been done ie: beauty and the beast etc. and I thought the characters were accessible and engaging and “real” so it’s not way out there in the fantasy realm.
That’s good to know. My hubster is an engineer, and I suspected this movie wouldn’t work for him. I’ll definitely see this one solo!
Totally agree with you.
This director, Del Toro, is a superb fantasist and I love his works (comics, novels AND movies), so I am pretty excited to see this. And I love letting go and letting a work sink into me!
Of note, you don’t need any special chocolate for this movie, you will want to be present to have your mind fully be blown away. Just my opinion 😉
I trust and know your opinion, so just a light dinner and maybe some ginger ale! 🙂
Do report back!
Black Cashmere today, for cold, rainy weather. I’m so glad I finally got a decant of this; I’d been very curious about it!
I think it’s from an older bottle as it seems quite mellow. I don’t mind. ❤️
Stay dry!
I have been wanting to try that one too!
Gah! Those infusers are so CUTE! Pug in a mug!! Are you kidding? ????
Late start for us today because you know who woke me at 3am to go outside. Never really got back to sleep until about 5 or 6.
SOTD is SL Vetiver Oriental from a swap here on NST. It’s very nice and if a FB landed in my lab, I’d keep it. I think this one is harder to find for some reason. I never see it at any discounters.
Yesterday, I was very cranky, so planning on adjusting my mood today. We may head up to the Portland area to check out an Airstream dealership to get a feel for ‘em. Most RV’s made is the US are absolute crap, but Airstream has a pretty good reputation, so I’ve heard.
Or we just may hang around practicing the Art of Accomplishing Nothing. We did get a lot done yesterday, so today may be a day of rest. Cheers all!
Yikes on the RV quality. We live very near the RV manufacturing capital of the USA. And know lots of peeps in that industry. ????????
Well, there I go sticking my foot in my mouth as usual ????. It’s just my opinion, which counts for nothing to anyone but me. Just where is the RV manufacturing capitol of the US? I’m going to guess Ohio?
Hehe, no worries. I think I always assumed the quality was fantastic, just because we know so many people associated with RV manufacturing.
Twilly for me as I headed over to the piers to watch day 2 of breed judging for Westminster. For anyone watching tonight, I got up close and personal with the St Bernard who ended up winning. Sweetheart dog. Huge compared to his competition and so fluffy!
Sweet! Did you get to hug it? I really want to just hug one of those.
No hugs. I did get to pet a number of dogs though. And received my share of licks.
My bottle of Slowdive finally arrived! It meandered around the Portland Post Offices for nearly a week before it was delivered. It was painful tracking it and seeing it transferred from one place to another. I don’t understand with all the barcodes how things can go so badly astray. Anyway, I am wearing it today and thinking I should have gotten two 10ml bottles and not just one. I’ll wear this a lot, and I think it will layer well with other scents, too.
Great choice. My last to purchases have meandered as well. Ugh.
I love that he does 10 ml bottles. I wish everyone would!
I was wearing Slowdive yesterday. It’s gorgeous, and I’m considering a 10ml bottle purchase now. I’m glad your package arrived safely after such a long detour!
I’m offering it in the split meet. ????
Look for my split on Saturday ????
Thinking maybe SL La Myrrhe for later in the day.
I only have a decant of this marvelous perfume, and one of my major Perfume Regrets is not buying on an older bell jar I saw on ebay some years ago.
It would be easy to get a bell jar now, but I am afraid to try the current version. I do have the recent black nomad spray of Iris Silver Mist, and do not like it as well as my partial bell jar.
I have pretty much decided to not smell any new versions of any old favorite SLs. I will be happier that way.
SOTD MFK A la rose…from Petunias generous package, thank you!
Burst of gorgeous fresh roses, with a whiff of something that strongly reminds me of Shiseido moisturizer/toner – wish I knew what that was! I smell a little something green, or stem/leaf-like.
few moments later I smell what I interpret as a light melon scent, then a few moments later what I interpret as a light “caramel/patchouli” scent – I know these notes are not in there – it just what I recognize from other perfumes, and may have erroneously categorized it based on fragrantica pictures 🙂 this is my least favorite part, but it does go away.
then, it sort of settles into a very light cloud of roses. I only sprayed 1 time on my arm. While it settles softly, it does pack a punch. I am really enjoying it!
Sounds lovely! Your Shiseido description made me think of the Swanicoco (Korean) products I’ve been using lately. They have a lush, wet, rose scent with a hint of something green. I love the products and the smell. This is a broad generalization, but it seems that Asian products tend to be scented to smell like perfume while Western products tend to be scented to smell “natural.” I’ll take the former! I love the smell of the AmorePacific products, too.
Ooooh, interesting – if you happen to pass by her Shiseido counter – let me know if you think the products smell similar to Swanicoco.
I’m wearing Bruno Fazzolari Ummagumma on one arm and Aesop HWYL on the other. They’re very different from one another.
Ummagumma has turned into a sort of gourmand incense oriental but when I first applied it, it smelled so much like room temperature Jameson whisky that I gagged! It’s sort of what I was expecting By Killian Single Malt to smell like.
HWYL is like walking through a forest in November, bonfire smoke in the air and herbs underfoot.
I tested Ummagumma yesterday and it reminded me so distinctly of something I wore recently. I *think* it was Chergui. I didn’t get Jameson (or any other) whisky, but boozy notes don’t always jump out at me. I enjoyed it a lot, and wonder what it’s like sprayed – I dabbed it from a sample vial.
The whisky moments were very short lived for me, it lasted at most a minute before flowering out into the incense/gourmand.
It reminds me of something I’ve smelled recently too and I can’t figure out what it could be!
Perhaps a cross between SL Five o’clock au Gingembre, Fille en Aiguilles and Chergui. All these together smell like L’Incendiaire!
Oh oh, see my response to Stephanie below. I also smelled Chergui in Ummagumma!
Elie Saab EdP today! I have gorgeous deluxe sample courtesy of HolyNeroli’s generous freebie, and I’m loving it.
The neroli is darker than I’d usually wear, probably from the honey and jasmine. It’s both comforting and complicated!
That sounds really pretty.
I started the morning in Profumum Roma Confetto, which I had high hopes for as an HG almond contender. Sadly (or happily – it’s $$$) no dice. Actually, I quite disliked the deep drydown which got way too sweet and caramel-y. I’ve encountered that caramel-ic note in other perfumes and really dislike it. It appears in Yves Rocher Vanille Noire, and Flowerbomb (iirc) as well as some others. I’m now wondering what it comes from, as it seems to be a note rather than an accord.
Anyhoo, moved on to Aroma M Geisha Vanilla Hinoki edp, which is smelling extra green and dry after the Confetto fiasco. Enabler pin to elisap who posted yesterday that the entire Aroma M store is 30% off (still active today; not sure when it ends.)
I sprayed myself down in Vanilla Hinoki to make sure I *need* a bottle. I do; one has been purchased; it will be up for split this weekend.
Confetto is on my must sniff list. I wonder if the dry down will bother me? (Probably not bc I’m an old school Flowerbomb fan. ????)
Oh yay! I got a sample of vanilla hinoki recently and I really liked it
Yes to almonds, but caramel doesn’t work for me either, and Yay! for Geisha Vanilla Hinoki. 😀
I didn’t like Confetto either. Mostly because it smelled flat to me. It has no sparkle. I still have a partial sample floating around somewhere. I feel the way about TF Noir de Noir, which most people love.
OTOH, I like Vanille Noire but don’t love it. I never got caramel notes from it. I just found it to be simple Mandarine/vanilla. I am not usually a fan of straight-up vanilla scents. Love the orientals though.
Glad to be of service ???? I’m pondering a backup of Nobara-Cha oil. I just got it recently and it’s level is now at the same level as my VH which is about 1.5 years old. But I think I initially wore VH a lot too and slowed way down, as with everything else.
Sota: Voyage
Kind of on the fence about this one. The opening, which lasts for a LONG time, has a medicinal note, similar to L’Elephant. At this point in my life, I feel like I must love it from start to finish. ????
I’m totally with you on the start to finish love. Too expensive not to 100% love it during every stage.
Infusion d’Iris Absolue from the lovely tiffanie via the freebiemeet! Wow, it’s so much more quiet than the older Id’I decant I wore yesterday. I also find the benzoin more prominent. This is really great for the office.
Chiming in late… TWINSSSSSSSS!
Woot woot! So glad you’re enjoying the Absolue. It’s a beauty. 😀
A slightly weird Tuesday for me. Just a bunch of little things have been off kilter, resulting in a “Huh?” kind of day.
SOTD = Amouage Beloved, the last of a sample courtesy of MMKinPA and the freebie meet. Gorgeous stuff!
Smelling pretty!
Thank you!
SOTD was Alia Paris. I had to work closely with my boss today so I chose, what I consider to be, a lighter scent.
Oops… Alaia Paris.
That’s a great summer scent for me. Lucky you to be able to wear it year round.
I don’t wear it often but it feels sort of seasonless to me.
